First time here...the pork shank and shrimp were awesome. The place was really warm and loved the colors and wide planked floors. Wish there was a dessert that didn't contain alcohol.

My boyfriend and I live near Stowe but had never heard of The Bistro. After reading the great reviews on here we decided to check it out. It was a good solid meal but really nothing spectacular. I had the oysters and the duck. The duck seemed a bit tough and overcooked, also a bit bland, but the skin was nice and crispy and the sides were enjoyable. My boyfriend had the steak frites. The steak was a bit over-seasoned but it was ok and the fries were perfectly crisp and delicious. They also seemed to be short-staffed for servers the evening we went and we sat with empty plates for a long time, to the point that we ended up skipping dessert because we were getting antsy. With so many choices for American fare in Stowe it's hard to say we'll be back here. While the view and ambience were wonderful, you'll find a better meal for the same price point at Harrison's or The Whip.

Delicious! Great atmosphere, well developed and complex flavors & great drinks. My husband and I both loved our experience here. I had the curry which was excellent and nuanced, my husband had the mussels with fresh baked bread. Everything made with love. Finally, 10 acres has owners who are doing the place justice.

This is a traditional cozy Vermont farmhouse restaurant at its best. The menu is varied and the portions are quite large and flavorful. We were staying at the lodge there itself (via AirBnB) and it was so nice just to walk down the drive for dinner. The bar is congenial and beautifully appointed--it's a great place to chat with other visitors. There were unique little aesthetic touches throughout that I kept noticing (and putting on my mental Pinterest board). The margaritas looked great although unfortunately we were not able to try them. They also have quite a whiskey selection. I agree with the previous poster that they are still working out a few service kinks. bartenders were great but our waitress was up front that it was her first night there and I got the feeling it might have been her first night ever serving. That being said, we had no real complaints. Everyone had a smile and it's very warm and cozy inside with several fireplaces throughout. If you're going on a Friday/Saturday night and want a prime time reservation, I would highly recommend a reservation.

We visited The Bistro at Ten Acres while on vacation last week. We were a little early for our reservation and enjoyed a cocktail in the lounge/bar which was decorated beautifully with rustic furniture ...very cozy. The wait staff were awesome and very attentive. For dinner we tried the pork shank, grilled shimp, and lemon chicken. All were great but the pork shank was outstanding. We didn't try the appetizers as we were saving up for dessert. We had the cinabon bread pudding and chocolate pecan pie both of which were great. We had a great dinner and although the Bistro is a bit off the beaten path we will return again when in the area and recommend it as one of the best restaurants in the area.

Tonight was my second time visiting The Bistro and we were again very pleased. The hosts are so warm and friendly and the food was tasty, generous sizes, and unique comfort fare. Wonderful selection of micro brews as well as a good wines. The food was ample and every element made on site including the crusty breads and amazing chips. Fancier fare abounds in the seated dining areas (three separate rooms) with special menus for the bar, dining rooms and kiddos. I love how one can hang out at the bar or one of the little tables in that area, or opt for a more formal dining experience, or just sit on the couch in front of the fire and enjoy drinks and dessert. Linda and Mark have given a second life to a once iconic Stowe dining destination and taken it up a notch this time around. I will be back again for certain.

Last night we dined at The Bistro for our first time, I can assure you we will be back. The owners Mark and Linda greeted you with a warm smile when you walked in the door as they were seating guest and serving behind the bar. The decor was exquisite with a charming flare of Vermont style throughout the restaurant, very warm and cozy. The service was excellent and the menu had something on it for everyones palate, the presentation was beautiful and the food was delicious thanks to chef Gary. We would highly recommend The Bistro to be a must stop when you are in this part of Vermont, we think it is a hidden treasure. Thanks for a wonderful evening. Akron, Ohio

What a fabulous restaurant in Stowe, VT! My boyfriend and I enjoyed an evening there last night. The food was phenomenal and the atmosphere was perfection! We made reservations on Open Table and were immediately seated at the most charming of tables in the entire restarant...the front window. Because it is staying light later now with daylight savings, we were able to see the picturesque and breathtaking views of the mountains and snow. The cocktail and wine lists were impressive. The Pineapple Salad is iconic and so refreshing! A must for us at any dinner here in the future! My boyfriend ordered the Seafood Stew and I ordered the Smoked Grafton Chicken. Both were prepared to perfection and quite delightful. The portions were on the larger side. The waitress, Zarah, was great. The drink and food service was slow, but worth the wait! We opted to skip the dessert options, but each sounded delish...next time! And, there will definitely be a next time for us. It was so quaint, romantic and overall a wonderful experience! Thanks, Bistro at Ten Acres! We will see you soon!

Highly recommend, went there as a family (four of us) w no reservation and had a great meal at the bar table as the dining room was full. Food was fantastic, friendly owners and staff, relaxed feel and nice beer selection. One of the highlights of the trip. Great place to find anywhere but especially in a resort area w a lot of high price/mediocre quality offerings.

After the great meal a few nights ago, had to go back with friends. Although they were booked, the owner found us a table after just a short wait ( thank you). The barbecued shrimp appetizer was great. My wife had the white bean soup which was just as good and one of our friends had the lamb kefka which tasted like authentic Moroccan cooking, very good. For entrees the barbecued pork loin was tremendous both in taste and size and the seafood stew was extremely well done. My wife's lemon chicken was very good although didn't seem to have any of the preserved lemon the menu listed. For dessert the lime panna cotta was amazing. Overall, another great meal with inviting hosts and a knowledgable, friendly, helpful staff. I would definitely recommend this restaurant/inn to anyone looking for a great meal in a fantastic setting.

We were a party of 4 calling very late in the day for a reservation, they accomodated us for an early arrival with the caveat they would like the table for previous reservations by 7:00. The dinner was excellent and we were not rushed in the least, we left....totally satisfied....about 7:10 with a warm "Thank You" from the proprietor, I look forward to visiting again soon !

We've been here twice and have been impressed both times. Lovely dining rooms, vibrant colors and space between tables. The wine list is very well priced and thoughtfully selected. We had the duck, the enormous steak, the seafood and the lobster. All were very tasty and attractively presented. My only gripe is that service while pleasant is a bit ragged. I'm sure that the wait staff will improve as time goes by. I would heartily recommend this restaurant.

I have been driving by this place for over 10 years and finally had to try it. The staff was very welcoming and engaging. The ambience was nice and very New England cottage feel. We had a full meal there including appetizer, main course and desert. For starters, I had the calamari roasted with a fresh pepper salsa. Very tasty, very good. My wife had the foie gras which was also good but not necessarily unique. Main course consisted of lamb chops and my wife had a fish dish. Both were prepared well and were enjoyed by both of us. Desert for me was sorbet (raspberry) and unfortunately, I cannot recall what my wife ordered. So here is why the 4 stars. Service was flawless, food very tasty but not memorable and a little pricey. I do recommend visiting here for a dinner while in Stowe as this will be one of the better meals you will find but there are 1 or 2 better places.

So the staff is very friendly here. Nice atmosphere. The bread, so yummy I think it was Rosemary... Delicious and the butter they give with it was soft and not rock hard. I had the chicken chillaques (might have messed up on the spelling). For an appetizer. It was amazing! I want more lol. Just wish the tortilla strips were on the top and not the bottom.. They got a little soft and sticky underneath everything. I also had the lamb, which was delicious except I ordered medium and it was more on the rare side. I ordered two deserts to go for family. The s'mores cake and the strawberry tart. S'mores cake was soooo yummy. I felt like the strawberry tart was good but a little to sweet. I liked this place, most likely would go again when I go back to Vermont.

Very accommodating and great for large groups. We stopped by as a party of 17 after a day on the slopes, having made a reservation for a large group, and they sat us at a private room with a large table. We split a bunch of sides, including the duck liver pate (really tasty), the mussels, frog legs (alright; not that much meat and not too much flavor) and the truffle fries, and the portions were generally on the larger end. For entrees, I split an order of the duck and the pork shank, and both were decent. The duck was a tad dry, but the pork shank was much more tender and tasty. We also split several bottles of wine, and the total bill was very reasonable. The service was very helpful, especially given the size of our party. The food was decent although somewhat hit or miss, but the value and accommodation for large groups makes it a great location for larger groups if you can secure the space (we reserved it a few days in advance).

First let me say this place came highly recommended. Lots of seafood items here. It was a warm atmosphere that made me never want to leave. The server was very attentive. Food was good, but I wasn't looking for seafood, so that was disappointing. Overall a nice find. A little off the beaten path

Large group of 13, they sat us at a beautiful private room with a large table and music. Service was exceptional (people are really nice in Vermont in general). The mussels were the best appetizer although a drop too spicy. Pork Shank, the Duck, Lobster were all excellent. The one bad dish was the steak which two people did not like. However too their credit, they did not charge us for it and we really appreciated that. Dessert was amazing, Flan was the number one. Pecan pie and s'mores pie were also really really good. All in all it was an excellent experience and we highly recommend.

Fantastic experience and delicious food! Our waiter, Ricky, made our night incredibly memorable! Our group of 15 was in a private room and we were treated like the restaurant's most important patrons there! We got to control our own music and Ricky was always close by to get us anything we needed. The pork shank was unbelievably good! Highly recommend this place!

We moved here shortly after The Bistro opened but never managed to get there until this winter. Kicking ourselves for waiting so long! It is a nice, cozy restaurant with an air of both comfort and not quite elegance, but a feeling of being something special. We had early reservations (5:30 on a Friday night) and had no problem finding parking, but when we left I could see why many complain about the parking situation. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the transition from one course to the next did not feel too fast or too slow. Just enough time for us to pause and have some conversation. It was the height of ski season, with several families with older children, but we happened to be seated in a room with two tables with children under the age of 8. The table closest to us was particularly noisy, but nothing too far from my experience at other restaurants in Stowe during the tourist season. However, I am guessing someone must have complained, as the owner came by and offered us complimentary desserts (along with the rest of the tables in the area) as an apology for the noise, as they quickly rushed the rambunctious family through their meal and out the doors. As for the food, I was so sure I knew what I would have before going, then my plans just went out the door as soon as I saw a plate of food walk by - it just looked so good, I found I wanted anything and everything. I was especially fond of my "seafood epiphany" - a seafood special that is adjusted each night to accommodate the freshest of fish and produce. This time it was a perfectly grilled salmon filet with a to-die-for sauce (pomegranate, I think). My boyfriend loved his chicken with potatoes, saying it was perfectly moist. Neither of us had room to finish the lovely comped desserts, but wow a chocolate torte to beat all tortes. We will definitely be back but will have to make sure to go in the off-season or else get early reservations again so that we do not have to mess with parking issues.

Very good. Loved the atmosphere. Farmhouse chic! Food was good and staff very friendly. Zarah was our waitress and she was very nice and attentive. Will definitely go back. Hope to see this place make it and be around for a long time.

This place is spectacular. We will definitely go back when visiting Stowe in the future. The house and decor are beautiful. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and managed to seat us with no reservations on a busy weekend night. Great bar selection and wonderful cocktails. I had the Cucumber Cooler and loved it. There are many tempting items on the menu. I finally settled on Moules Marinere and Vietnamese Grilled Shrimp, both of which were wonderful. Everyone's food was great. We'll go out of our way to return. I looked at their website later and saw that it is a family owned and run restaurant. Very nice -- congrats!

Hot damn. I've never really thought of Stowe as a culinary destination, but this place will turn me. Absolutely get reservations because they fill up. We showed up, immediately seated and given menus and all of that. We glanced at their cocktail/wine menu and sort of assumed there was no beer since they seemed to be pushing the "fancy" vibe, but when we asked about it the waitress said "of COURSE we have beer on tap!" and listed a bunch for us! Same thing when we asked about a kids menu, "we absolutely have chicken fingers!" We ordered the winter duck, pork shank, tuna "seafood epiphany", mussels, pineapple salad, and pate. The pate was garlicy and nutty, very tasty, especially if you're still on the fence about pate. The mussels were delicious and well seasoned, pineapple salad fruity and fun but hearty too. The pork shank was PERFECTLY cooked, I don't want to use the word smooth because that makes it sound overcooked, but it was falling apart deliciousness. Now, I had the duck, and this thing needs an award of some sort. The duck itself was perfectly cooked, perfectly portioned, with braised cabbage and delicious potatoes. But what really made the duck was the sauce. I could eat this sauce FOREVER. Even after I was stuffed to the brim I kept going back with bread to make sure I got it all because it was just THAT good. I can only describe it as a sweet tomato sauce, but I imagine it was a puree of a lot of different vegetables stewed together. If the chef is reading this and wants to send me the recipe (or even the name of the sauce so I can try and recreate it!) I would be eternally grateful. Yelp told us we needed to save room for dessert, so we did (sort of). We ordered the pumpkin maple creme caramel, which held true to its word and was both pumpkiny and mapley. I got the lemon panacotta and it was absolutely fantastic. Great lemony taste that was perfect for after the meal with a smooth creamy texture and a delicious cookie to top it all off. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Delicious, unpretentious, and SO DELICIOUS!!

Interestingly enough, my husband and I had been to this place while it was still Lagniappe. The restaurant itself is quite cute and cozy with a couple of fireplaces, rustic decor, and no more corny Mardi Gras beads! It seems to be the same chef as was at Lagniappe, and a couple of the past favorites have stayed on the menu. We started our meal by sharing the soup of the day - split pea and andouille sausage. We like to refer to this as "sausage gate" because there was LITERALLY only one piece of sausage (and by piece I mean one slice of sausage that you would use as a pizza topping). As avid sausage lovers this was a disappointment to us. Then, I ordered the braised pork shank and subbed the sweet potatoes for veggies - it was quite delicious and a large enough portion to take some home. My husband ordered the duck and asked do the skin to be crispy, which it was (but unfortunately it turned out a little dry too). The duck was tasty but it would be helpful for them to serve it with a steak knife. The cabbage that the duck came with was fantastic but it was lacking on the apple front. All in all, the Bistro is a cute, warm and inviting place to have dinner after a great day on the slopes!

Found this place quite by accident on the road to the Trapp Family Lodge. Absolutely fantastic meal, fantastic service, fantastic view. When we were done eating we stayed and sat by the applewood fire and enjoyed the ambience. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

4 Stars for the food. The waiter was okay but tried to take order for 8 without writing anything down and the table service suffered for it. Great atmosphere as well.

We visited the Bistro at Ten Acres for dinner on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is in an old farmhouse decorated in an elegant/rustic style. We started with an excellent cheese and ale soup, loaded with flavor, creamy but not too heavy. For the main course, we had the Vietnamese grilled shrimp with mango salsa and rice noodles; and a swordfish special in a lemon basil sauce with snap peas, red peppers, tomatoes and capers with new potatoes on the side. We finished off the meal with Key Lime pie topped with a bruleed merengue, in a home made crust, no graham crackers here. Everything was really good, the chef is very talented. Our server was perfect, cordial and knowledgable and didn't once call us "guys". Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed the meal here. Actually I should say meals. The portion size was huge. More than I could eat in a sitting. There were so many choices on the menu I really couldn't decide and had to ask my server for a recommendation. She recommended the pork shank as the house speciality. I went with that with a starter of the lamb kefka. Starting with the lamb it was outstanding. Spicy and flavorful. (too spicy for my wife but perfect for me). The pork shank was tender and moist in a fantastic home made barbecue sauce. My wife had the vegetable pasta special which was also delicious but slightly heavy on the garlic. Save room for dessert. So, so, so many choices. I eventually settled on the lime pannacotta. A wonderful choice if I do say so myself. Other reviews I've read noted an excellent scotch selection. While I found it ok, it wasn't anything outstanding better than most, but pretty standard with Oban, Macallan Glenmorangie and Highland Springs. If you do decide to eat here I recommend making a reservation make it well in advance and ask to sit in the library. The room is beautiful with wide plank pine flooring a fireplace and the best views. Dress here is casual, jeans etc are fine. Pros: - Great views - Friendly owners - Great food - Reasonable prices Cons: - Our server was just ok. She disappeared for extended periods of time. I think they had three servers with stations in the library. I'd recommend having just one with that station to keep them more visible. - Our server also didn't mention it was possible to add chicken or shrimp to the pasta special, the server for the next table over did and my wife was able to add that to her dish. - Portions are too large. I prefer slightly smaller portions. Overall a wonderful experience.

Most times Yelp leads us in a great direction, but not this time. I was really excited about this place based on reviews & pics, but a total disappointment. The place is nice, and I enjoyed the menu & how it was written as if the chef were talking to you personally about each dish. We ordered the mussels as an app & were off to a great start. They were fantastic....then it went downhill. I ordered the grilled lobster dish with polenta. This dish is $30 and I'll start by saying I was lucky if it was a 3/4lb lobster. Very small. It was cooked well, but the "polenta" was different than expected. Looked like white cornmeal with fresh corn mixed it. It's filled into the lobster body shell. All in all I had about 10 total bites of food. I was thankful for the app or I would've been hungry still. My husband ordered the steak frites. Frites were good. Steak we ordered rare, it was closer to medium & dry as a bone. Not a lot of fat for moisture & difficult to swallow. My husband considered asking for steak sauce, a sin in our book but it needed moisture...melt some butter over it at minimum! Also, menu calls this a traditional French bistro classic but there were random olives sprinkled on the steak? Weird.... Not worth the $$$ for the food quality. We won't be back.

The Bistro is a total gem. No seriously, you feel like you've discovered a beautiful secret door that was waiting for you to waltz in when you walk in there. Beloved by locals and travelers alike - the menu is surprisingly creative and super flavorful. Mark and Linda - the owners of the Bistro and the lodges (where I've been staying) have more than paid attention to details, but they've been meticulous in incorporating Vermont style and beauty, local food and drinks along with excellent service and staff. They work their butts off around this place and it shows. Food: Pork Shank is ridiculous. Off the charts. Don't miss the Grilled Oysters. Lobster is a star. Mussels are a must do, the broth will astound you. Drinks: All juices are fresh squeezed right in front of you. Old school drinks with a fabulous updated twists. I recommend trying every single one on their drink menu if you have time, or a designated driver in the group. If you're in Stowe - consider yourself lucky if you can get to this place.

Jan 22, 2014 Dinner: The bottom line is that this was one of the best fine dining meals that the four of us have experienced in several years - certainly one of best meals in Stowe since we started our annual visits to Trapp Guest Houses in the early 1980s. We started with the hush puppies with crab remouladee appetizer. The five corn hush puppies were small, but sweet and crispy - just like you'd get at a great southern restaurant. The cold crab remouladee was served in a separate cup and had a fresh crab flavor. There was plenty of spread for us to cut the hush puppies in half and pile the crab on top. I had the plate-filling, fall-off-the- bone tender Braised Pork Shank. It sat on a somewhat soupy but tasty mashed sweet potato base and was covered in a moderately thick gravy that had a mild mustard flavor that complimented the meat very nicely. The "garnish" was basically a full serving of sliced seared carrots and onions. In fact, I'm not sure why they even offer side dishes separately because every one of our plates was filled with enough veggies and potatoes that we didn't need anything else. The Smoked Grafton Chicken was a huge portion in a light sherry cream sauce topped with mushrooms, red peppers and new potatoes. The "Seafood Epiphany" was a large piece of tender, flaky sole smothered in a broth-like lemon sauce that begged to be scooped up with every bite. As with the other dishes, there was an ample supply of firm new potatoes, cherry tomatoes and snap peas. The member of our party who had the Steak Frites said that the meat was as tender as a good filet - but twice the size. The plate was piled high with shoestring sliced fresh French fries. We finished the meal with two pieces of warm Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie. The pieces were a little small for the price, but the flavor was amazing. You could definitely taste the bourbon, but it was nicely balanced with the chocolate, lots of pecan halves and a small scoop of ice cream. The ambiance was very cozy and the background music was appropriate and pleasant. Our server was knowledgable, enthusiastic and attentive. The only slightly annoying thing was that we were the only people in the whole restaurant but they sat the next guests at the table right next to ours which made things a bit loud and made quiet conversation very difficult. All of our entrees were in the $20-$28 range which I felt was a very good value given the quality and quantity of the food. I used their online reservation link from their website and it worked perfectly. I don't typically take the time to write full reviews, but this was such an exceptional, memorable meal that I wanted to share my enthusiasm and encourage others to try The Bistro at Ten Acres when you are in Stowe. We will certainly go back there next January!

Excellent find with the help of Yelp during a recent visit to Stowe. On a cold, snowy evening it was the perfect place to go and feel like you're in a warm mountain cabin eating comfort food by the fireplace. The service was great and attentive. Good beer, wine and mixed drinks offerings and the pork shank was great! While some places in Stowe felt a little stodgy, this place feels like there's been some new life with new ownership.

Food was so-so but worse yet, they are so clearly understaffed. Had dinner at the Bistro last night, and this poor waiter had to serve several rooms. For the price, the service was not worth it, and it wasn't the waiter's fault. We raised this with the owner, and she recognized they were understaffed. For the price (and it's expensive), definitely not worth it, and evening was not as special as it could have been.

We love what has transpired from some serious thought and sweat equity with the new owners of Ten Acres! Gone are the overstuffed and aged furniture and welcome to wide pine floors, a wonderful color scheme, working fireplaces. The menu is full of wonderful choices, the waitstaff is attentive and knowledgable. Love all the "little touches and details" that Linda has incorporated throughout. Highly recommend you make a reservation and check them out! Also, let's bug them for some outdoor dining this year. :)

We had a great dinner at the bistro. The broiled oysters and chilaquiles were favorite starters. My entree, lobster with bourbon sauce and polenta, was innovative and delicious. The pork shank and smoked pastramied salmon, which others in our party had, were also terrific. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service very attentive. If you're in the area, you shouldn't miss it.

Nicely located, just off the main strip of Stowe but from the restaurant you'd never know that given the beautiful views of fields and pastures. The restaurant itself is an old building that has been nicely restored with a somewhat rustic feel. The wait staff was excellent, timely and attentive and gave great advice on the menu. Everything we dined on was outstanding, however I cannot stress how good the barbeque shrimp is. I don't eat shrimp, I don't like shrimp, and I'd go as far to say I detest shrimp. My wife ordered this appetizer and made me try it, much against my will, and I was glad she did, it was amazing! We were impressed with the quality and flavor of all the dishes, I would recommend Ten Acres bistro without hesitation.

Holy sh....WOW! We were blown away with everything about this place. What an unbelievably perfect scene. From the centerpieces on the table to the paint on the walls; from the beautiful floors to great chairs; from the bar to the bathroom to the landscaping to the excellent service.... And the food! We haven't eaten food like this in a long, long time. Absolutely fantastic. Magical. Love the fact that the kids could draw with chalk right on the table. Brilliant! All the other pervious posts are spot on. Everything about this place is off the charts.

Welcomed by the owner and treated like a life long guest. Service was great and the food was quite good. It was early and not yet too busy which is always a plus. I'm looking forward to another night and hope it's a trend with good food and great service. Ski bum from MA

We've been there several times and the meals are always innovative and delicious. Friendly staff and cozy. The only suggestions for improvement are the acoustics - it can be very loud. Also, sometimes the service has been a bit slow (but friendly).
