I stopped in at Blue Moon while out with my girlfriend and her family at Stowe this past week. The overall ambiance of the establishment is extremely nice. It's intimate, but yet also has a bar-type setting for those looking to just swing by and get some drinks. We had a table of 9, and while annoying as big groups are, Blue Moon's service was extremely efficient. i ordered the Butternut Squash with Grilled Chicken and Greens, and it was exquisite. The crab cake appetizer was also delicious. It was a bit more on the expensive side, but as I say, you always get what you pay for! Service was prompt and friendly, and the overall vibe from Blue Moon was definitely pleasing. If you;re in Stowe and want a nice dinner, stop in here for sure.

Great scene in the lovely town of Stowe, but meh. Drinks: Shy away from cocktails, the mixology skills are lacking. I had to send mine back. The beer list is sparse, Yards 60 minute is their best. Wine list is fine. Food: Meh. Our salmon was overdone and on a hefty pile of buttery mashed potatoes and 2 buttery brussel sprouts. I would have rather had a crisp side salad, but this was not an option. Gazpacho tasted "blah". Just puree. No real spice. The scallops were a little better, but the miso overwhelms. Ambiance is nice. Good for groups. You can set up a long table. Plus I love the color blue. Overall - way too pricey for what they serve.

Our family had Christmas Eve dinner here this year. The warm hospitality and excellent service were only surpassed by the excellent food. We started with the poached pear salad, with curly and Belgian endive and the apple rutabaga soup. For entrees, we had tenderloin with horseradish smashed potatoes and golden beets and arugula and venison with juniper berry wine sauce. The portions were generous and beautifully plated. The owner recommended a great bottle of wine. A lovely evening in a beautiful room. Highly recommended.

This place is really just no that good especially for fancy expensive nice food. Service is great which is what you should EXPECT from a place like this. Good drink selection too and bottled beers. The appetizer portions were offensively small. I know I love big portions and that cheesecake factory sized portions should not be the norm but my crabcake was the size of a susan b anthony dollar coin. I should expect more than that. I had the short ribs too which were ok I have definitely experienced far better in my lifetime. The scallops had a weird off flavor too them as well. I got the chocolate pot for dessert which was definitely filled fairly with chocolate and kind of like a molten cake but to be honest the flavor didnt really stand out to me. Save your money and go elsewhere there is so much great dining ion stowe to waste a precious night in Stowe here.

The Blue Moon Cafe was a spectacular restaurant. The service was very nice, smart and attentive. The food was reasonably priced but amazing. I highly suggest that after your amazing dinner at this restaurant, you top things off with the Belgium Chocolate Pot which is like a molten lava cake. I really loved the Blue Moon Cafe and will definitely be going their again.

Best food I have had in a very long time. For the price, the food you get is outrageous! Ordered the quail with fig sauce which was incredibly delicious. They change their menu monthly to account for the seasons and local produce and meats they can get. The location is great, right in downtown Stowe and within walking distance from The Green Mountain Inn if you are staying there. Getting reservations on a weekend was not difficult and the dessert was the best I have had at Stowe and was gone in seconds between my boyfriend and I. We had the apple cake with homemade whiskey ice cream, it was not too rich, not too sweet, just perfect. Please try this place, it is worth the trip! Final suggestion is to ask for table number 16 or 22. They are the most romantic :-)

Hands down best dinner I've had in some time, and I eat out in Boston often. If you're visiting Stowe and would like fine dining, this is the place to go. Chicken and mushroom risotto was phenomenal although they do change their menu monthly.

This is a great place if you have the money or if it's a special occasion.. For a dinner for two, no alcoholic bev, with individual desserts and a shared app. The bill was $100.00..Service was casual, casually dressed too. But excellent. The place is tiny so we did get to know our neighbors next to us who were celebrating their anniversary. I didnt care for much on the menu so we both had steak. I swear u could cut it w/ a butter knife. It melted in your mouth. We did start out sharing a crab cake.YUMMY! The bread is soo good! It is the Elmore mtn bread and you can purchase it at the Elmore Mtn Store right on the main drag through elmore. anyway..The desserts was fabulouso! When I left from there I didnt want to brush my teeth after wards!! sooo good! but, special occasions only for us ;)

I really liked this place a lot. Ate there one of the 3 nights I was in Stowe on a fall vacation. I found the wait staff helpful and friendly. I found the decor and overall atmosphere to be very relaxed. Most importantly all of the food I had there was excellent. Appetizer, entree, dessert. The wine list was very nice as well. For the quality of food I got I found the pricing to be right where it should be. If you want Wendy's, go drive through. If you want fine dining, you go to a place like this. If I'm ever in the area again I will be looking The Blue Moon Cafe up again.

Fantastic food. Preparation providing distinctive flavors that are unique and delicious. Terrine dishes for appetizer were wonderful. Stuffed chicken with ham had terrific crust and beat sweet potatoes I've ever had. Fruit sorbets are to die for, especially the pear. The flan was best I've ever had. Attractive decor too. Guarantee you'll like it.

I'm with Ian and Amy G, as well as Dan W, on this place. Portions are a little too bite size. The dishes could use a little more pizzazz. Only come here because my parents love fine dining, and this is truthfully the closest you're going to get in Stowe, VT.

A group of us were at the restaurant for their Feb. menu. I had high expectation of this place but I find the food just okay and the price for the appetizers and deserts way too high. The kale potato soup was average, the crabcake was very good. The prices for the entrees were on par with other high-end restaurants in the area. I didn't like my selection of cured salmon though. I gave it to others at the table and no one liked it. For $7.5, you get 3 very tiny scoops of ice cream, not much bigger than the melon scoop size. That's really high for what you get, very disappointed. One thing I found odd was the salt and pepper shaker at the table, one would think freshly ground pepper would be a given. Fortunately, it was available when I asked for it.

The service was quite good with an attentive staff; however, I expected more. The mustard encrusted salmon lacked flavor and, for the money, the portions are very small; if you arrive hungry your probably going to leave hungry as well.

My wife & I very much enjoyed our dinner here. We had the radicchio, bibb & hazelnut salad with Mossend blue cheese (a sheep's milk blue cheese from Vermont's Bonnieview Farm) and the French lentil & sweet potato soup. Both apps. were very tasty. Our entrees were the seared salmon with green beans, fingerling potato salad, toasted almonds & figs and the curried chicken cabbage rolls with tamari & blood orange vinaigrette. Both entrees were inventive, well presented and tasty. The wine list offers a sufficient number if wines by the glass that pair up nicely with the menu. The service is efficient, omnipresent and well versed on the entire menu.

I really don't understand the hype about this place. After reading several reviews and getting a recommendation from the owner of our rental home, we had high hopes. The location is quaint. The decor and atmosphere are cute and intimate. Little bar when you first walk in. For a place located between so many amazing craft beer distributors, you would expect a little more than their incredibly small beer menu which included two local craft beers - one priced at $27. The service was friendly and attentive. The food on the other hand is so amazingly unflavorful. It's surprising to find such perfectly cooked food with little to no seasoning. I don't even think they bothered to use salt or pepper in any of the dishes we ordered (with the exception of my Duck). The chef managed to cook each dish exactly as it was meant to be but completely failed on flavors. Appetizers; Amy ordered the Parsnip and Pear Soup and I had the Duck Confit Salad. The Duck was COVERED in salt. I could barely make out the flavor of the Duck in any bite other than the perfectly crunchy skin. The salad was just ok. Amy's soup tasted like boiled parsnip broth with some thickener added for consistency. Dinner: Rabbit Manicotti dressed in a squash puree with sauteeed spinach. So bland. The rabbit had zero taste and the pasta used did not taste fresh. The squash puree was desperately lacking salt and pepper, the simplest of ingredients. After I dumped salt and pepper on the dish, it became a lot more edible. Amy had the Mustard Crusted Salmon. The mustard seeds were slightly more burned than they should have been and literally had no flavor whatsoever but did offer some texture to the fish. Beneath the salmon was a bed of beet-infused mashed potatoes. These were just ok, but probably the best part of the meal. The salmon was a good cut, but again had close to no flavor and was really lacking a sauce or a glaze or anything really to highlight its flavor. I am always impressed by the high acclaim for an eatery that completely misses the mark. I don't know how the Blue Moon Cafe garners such praise, but we will never go here again. The clue that we should have left before the entrees came out was the salt smothered duck they served. Had we not traveled several hours after an awesome camping trip in southern Vermont, and eaten close to nothing for breakfast and lunch, we would have left this place starving. I can quite honestly say that I ate MUCH better the last two nights camping in the woods and cooking over a fire. This place is expensive and the chef is clueless when it comes to seasoning. Find dinner elsewhere.

We made reservations for valentines day. The food was excellent. The menu changes monthly. The service was excellent and we did not feel rushed especially on a busy night like valentines day. I would highly recommend Blue moon cafe. We look forward to returning

Ate there last night and had a lovely time. The service is very friendly - didn't mind that we were the last to leave even though it was a little after their closing time. I had the Thai BBQ chicken with coconut fritters and a light slaw. The whole dish was very well balanced between rich and light. The chicken must have been marinated a long time because it was completely infused with a lemongrass/Thai flavor. Oh, and I can't review this place without mentioning the wine. Red wines by the glass were all fantastic! Definitely recommend checking this place out.

Didn't find very much about this place innovative or all that appetizing. The beginning of September means incredible fresh local ingredients, none that I saw highlighted on the menu. Dishes were overpriced, and the one vegetarian entree was very poorly executed, barely edible, had the taste of overheated pan/olive oil. Waitstaff and host seemed bored.

We stayed right up the street at the Seven Springs Inn and asked for a recommendation for fine dining. Really, I am with Jules P. Actually his review is pretty much word for word accurate. The place says it uses fresh and local seasonal ingredients, but nothing we ordered had any hint of that. It was a stark contrast from the menu, that's for sure. It started with our appetizer- the crab cakes. My wife loves crab cakes, so we order them everywhere we go. We've probably had them 25 or 30 times by now. We've had them so good they would curl your toes, and so bad you wouldn't want another bite. In this case, they were soggy, fell apart on the fork and tasted like shake and bake covered imitation crab-meat. As for the main meal, I ordered the cioppino which was not only bland, but was served over a bed of rice (not indicated on the menu). I've never seen a stew served over rice and the waiter didn't seem to think this was odd either (nor did he have anything to say about the fact that I couldn't find any fish in my fish stew). Speaking of which- the service was terrible. Our waiter was disinterested in us from the very beginning- which was odd as we were all smiles after a wonderful day travelling and exploring. He was, however, very interested in the table of 4 next to us, as he proceeded to fawn over them for 2 hours while we raised our hands asking for basic things. I will say that the atmosphere is nice and intimate, but that's about all this place had going for it. We were hoping for a gustatory experience, but instead were deeply disappointed. I will never forget signing the check- I was fuming! I could hear every dollar bill laughing at me as it flew out of my checking account.

I eat here regularly and think it's a great low-key Stowe option with a quaint and intimate atmosphere and very friendly staff. The food is very fresh and well prepared- gourmet, but on the simpler side. My husband and I love the Vermont ingredients and the options for healthier fare, but the portions are generous, so it's great after a day of skiing too. The dessrts are good but could offer a few more options, likewise the wine. All in all, a wonderful Stowe option that beats a majority of the higher priced restaurants.

Blue Moon was closed during my last stint in Stowe, but I finally got to check it out during my most recent vacation. It is a gorgeous little restaurant with wonderful food. They change their menu weekly to accomodate seasonal availability. That made this locavore smile! I began my meal with the smoked duck and spinach salad with blueberries and shaved sweet onion. The first 3 ingredients are part of my top 10 favorite foods in life, so this was a pretty perfect appetizer. I'd never thought of putting duck and blueberries together, but it really works! My entree was the grilled lamb steak with roasted eggplant, chick pea salad and grilled halloumi cheese. This was a mountain of food, and every morsel was outstanding! Sugar Bear began with the chilled beet soup. It was a perfect spring soup...slightly sweet and very fresh. His entree was the crispy trout with Asian stir fried vegetables. He stepped out of his usual red meat box to try something new. He was quite pleased with this delicate fish. He ordered the chocolate pot for dessert. YUMO! Another wonderful place in Stowe that I will return to in future visits!

A small, intimate restaurant on a side street near downtown Stowe. The menu is unique and changes frequently, and the emphasis is on fresh ingredients. A bit pricey, but good for a romantic candlelit dinner or date night after a long day of skiing or gallery shopping.

Visited the Blue Moon Cafe on a recent weekend excursion. It was a really wonderful, down-home sort of place. Decor was simple and pretty open but it was quiet. If you don't count the beetle we saw crawling across the floor (we couldn't tell what it actually was), it was an error-free night. They change their menu weekly so what I had probably won't be there when you go. They have really wonderful inventive soups for appetizers--I had a peach yogurt soup which was very nice. The lamb with cherries was delish. My husband had the steak which he really enjoyed. We opted out of dessert only because we had chocolates and a jacuzzi waiting for us when we left... ;-) But all in all, worth the trip. We recommend staying at the Green Mountain Inn if you are ever in Stowe.

  • A Local's Review For U.

The good news at Blue Moon is that some of the dishes they serve are actually rather good. There seems to be some active creativity going on here with frequent menu changes and locally inspired dishes. But as one might expect, with constant experimentation, one is going to have misses as well as hits. I've had some really good meals here, and others that were somewhat disappointing. Your best bet here is to try and get some info from other diner's or the wait staff on what's the best option on any given night. Of course the prices are sky high, but at least at Blue Moon there's a chance that the food might actually be worth it. Not a bad choice for Stowe.
