We had a very cozy dinner here after a long, cold day of riding at Killington. Driving through Springfield, it was pretty much the only restaurant we saw open. We were seated by the window and enjoyed a great dinner! We shared a french onion soup, which had 4 cheese and just the right amount of onions. We loved it. Then I had the fried scallops, just to see what they were like. I've had all kinds of fried fish but never a scallop. They were good, but I think in general, scallops are meant to be sauteed to keep the flavor. My favorite part was the waitress offered to sub a garden salad for coleslaw! I feel like most restaurants would upcharge for that - especially a salad as good as theirs, with tomatos, cukes, mushrooms, and a delicious dressing - and it was very nice of them. My husband loved his burger. Drinks were VERY cheap. We couldn't believe how low the bill was. We definitely recommend it!

Driving across VT on a sunny Saturday, I was passing through Springfield and decided to pull over in the downtown area for a lunch break. I wanted something good for lunch, other than fast food and pizza. I spotted the Fifty Six Main Street Restaurant, which was open for lunch on Saturdays, so I decided to check it out. At the time of this review, there was no outdoor seating on the sidewalk, which would've been great for this warm sunny day. This restaurant was on my list of places to try and I was going to stop here for dinner after skiing this past winter, but I never made it here. Better late than never. I'm checking in! The place was pretty quiet around 1:30PM when I arrived here. The dining room was a bit dark, though there was natural light shining through the front windows. I was seated at a cozy table next to the front window, perfect! The staff was switching the tables over to dinner, covering the tables with linen cloths and replacing folded paper napkins (used for lunch) with linen napkins. I ordered an ice water, while I perused the lunch menu, which offers bistro style fare including salads, wraps, paninis, sandwiches, burgers, and comfort entrees. See the lunch and dinner menus at fiftysixmainstreet.com I went with the Chicken Fajita Wrap ($8.49) and I chose the chilled black bean salad as my side instead of fries. The food arrived to my table in . The big wrap was toasted on the outside and chock full of hot tender seasoned chicken, peppers, onions, salsa, and jack cheese. The chilled black bean salad was a great side choice on a warm day and very refreshing and light taste. The food overall was very good, the price was very fair, and the service was prompt.

I ordered Sweet potato fries and a green Gorgonzola salad with apple and nuts. The salad and apple dressing combination was delicious. Except there was no cheese in it, that is why I gave it only 3 stars. My friends has a Ruben and chicken club and it was fresh and delicious. Their only draw back was too much salt on the fries. We all still think the place has potential for its freshness and We will go back.

Ate here for the first time ( and probably last time) tonight. The waitress was very nice but the meals were mediocre at best. Two of us had the chicken parm and one had the burger. All were just ok, nothing special. The burger was under $10, I think, but the parm was $16.99. Food was just so-so it certainly was not a good value for the money. Side salads were very small and just lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. When I go out I would like to have something good not just so so. Not a lot of places to choose from around here but that is not an excuse to put out uninspired meals.

We have become somewhat frequent visitors of 56 Main...a charming little spot in the heart of downtown Springfield, VT I have yet to have had a dish that I didn't enjoy. My very favorite though is the butternut squash ravioli, man oh man, SO delicious! A classic New England pallet of flavors that are excellent. They have a frequent diners card (which in my opinion every restaurant should have) and they send you a discount card for your birthday.. A fact that helps me justify spending a little more to have customer service touches like that. Things that stop me from posting 4 stars... No free refills on soft drinks ( a huge pet peeve of mine) price point seems a little high but it's the price you pay for dining nice in a little town. I'd really stick to this as more of an "occasion" restaurant of you're sticking to a close budget.. It wont break your bank but it's easy to spend 80-100 dollars after drinks and apps are added in.

My wife and I had a lovely lunch here. The Monti Christo sandwich was excellent. My wife had chicken salad and soup-both very good. Service was excellent. Restrooms were clean. Definitely worth the stop.

Had a very good experience ... very pleasant place after hours at the nearby Hospital... had a good drink, and as the other reviewer I had enjoyable chicken fajita thing with black bean salad... perfect! And, there is a most interesting retail store of high crafts through a connecting door.

If you're in the area, this is the place to go to. We stopped here after the church portion of a friend's wedding for a quick bite to eat and were very happy and full when we left. Two of my friends split a burger (which was very large and well made), I had a wrap and my wife had a quiche. All were very flavorful, came out quick and were very inexpensive. Add in the cute, New England charm, the $2 beers and $5 cocktails and no complaints here.
