Black Krim is a cozy little restaurant tucked away on a side street in Randolph. It has a romantic feel, with soft lighting, mellow music, and eccentric artwork. The food is always creative, fresh, and exciting. They offer various vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options which makes it a great place to go, regardless of your dietary restrictions. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable about the drinks and food which makes for a more enjoyable experience. I just can't get enough of the elder fashion, their elderberry infused old fashioned. They have a solid selections of beers and wines. I love the small plate concept because their options are always so interesting and varied, it is hard to decide on just one. The desserts are always tasty, too. One of my all-time favorites was the lavender creme brûlée.

Great meal last night at the Black Krim. Worth trying again and again as the menu is always changing with what's available locally. Generous portions and good beer and wine list. Loved it.

Having visited each of the fifty states (as well as many countries), I have had the opportunity to dine in a wide variety of restaurants and must say that our family's recent visit to the Black Krim Tavern was genuinely one of my top ten dining experiences! The initial basis for deciding to eat there was primarily its location (just a few minutes off I-89), as we traveled to Manchester airport after skiing in Vermont; however, we would now recommend it as a worthy destination of its own! The eclectic mix of tables/chairs, lighting, art and decorations makes for a fun, comfortable environment, where diners can sit comfortably (we opted for the large stuffed arm chairs/couch with oversized coffee table) for extended periods of time and enjoy private conversation. There are a nice variety of beer/wine/cocktail options, as well as many non-alcoholic (e.g. ginger beer) ones as well. However, as with any restaurant, in the end, it all comes down to the food; and that is where Black Krim Tavern earns its high marks! While the menu is not several pages, it does feature a nice variety of beef, seafood, chicken, pork and vegetarian appetizers/entrees, with each being unique in their preparation, taste and presentation. Sarah, the owner/chef is a wonderful culinary artist, with much of the organic food coming from her spouse's nearby farm. Given the quality, portions and effort associated with each item, the prices are surprisingly reasonable (e.g. appetizers around $8, entrees around $20 and desserts around $6). As I perused some of the other reviews, I noted the comment about service not being quick and would suggest since each dish is specially made to order (individual preferences/requests were welcome), the restaurant is not one which lends itself to a quick meal; rather it is a place to visit when one wants to step away from the fast-paced, hurried world. . . which is why we can't wait to return to Black Krim Tavern and enjoy another memorable meal! :-)

Enjoyed a delicious dinner here! The ambience and music selection was fabulous, and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The decor felt intimate, yet unique. The food was delicious, and their menu is made to be able to chance to meet dietary needs. I am a vegan, and there were many items to choose from. I went with the zucchini fritters, which tasted fresh and expertly seasoned. I heard similar comments from my partner about the burrito he enjoyed. The bill came to 18 dollars, which was incredibly affordable by our standards, and frankly a steal for the ambience and freshly prepared and unique flavors. If we ever visit the area again, we will definitely be back!

How to write the most effective review for a place one really, really, really loves: -Forget about all the flowery poetry written in your head while the bizarre charms of the quirky, lovable little restaurant seduce you into a state of total WOW. -Spare readers the 13,000 word diatribe you have already recited to your friends, shouting and screaming and swearing that they have to do what you have already done: driven 2 hours to get there and 2 hours to get back - you might be a little delirious, because apart from the majesty of this central VT location, there's nothing, NOTHING that could prepare you mentally for the experience you might have at The Black Krim. 4 of us descended upon this teensy town and its teensiest restaurant on a Tuesday night at about 7:30 pm. There were a few other diners in the place and we were sat right away at a bigger table in the back of the room. At first I didn't know what to make of the place - it looked like a well-loved, homey little spot pieced together with odd bits of furniture and plateware...chairs and silverware and plates mix-matched, a kitchen surprisingly carved out toward the front of the room. Quietly the house sound system played some mellow restaurant jams and the clever lighting fixtures distracted me until we were handed our menus, when I knew we had hit the jackpot: An excellent cocktail, beer and wine list with a couple really interesting sake "cocktails" and a small selection of really interesting and affordable sakes by the glass (I'm really into cold n' classy sake) . . . we ordered a couple drinks from all over the list and set to work on ordering food: Scallops with blueberries, watermelon, vanilla vinaigrette, arugula pesto? BLAM. outta the park. scallops so nicely seared! so freakin' crazy, those flavors! Garbanzo fritters, grilled garlic bread, a whirlwhind of emotion. Beet soup! Nuts. Can't even begin to describe. so cool. Or, actually. it was hot! but we slurped it right down. Sausage + barley "risotto" + smoked tomato broth + blue chz - OFF THE HIZZY. so good. Crispy trout!! With a carrot and red lentil cake! That plate was bangin'! - that was just some of the beginning. The Entrees! We got them all! so good! MAKO (as in shark! after being locked in an aquarium during a hurricane in 1988 I have a complicated relationship with sea creatures, but when I dive in I grab that [aquatic] bull by its horns and dance!) - roasted blue hubbard 'spear'(! I get it now), French lentils, chili+elderberry reduction? Wow. my favorite dish of the night....or was it... The RABBIT. what? how did they do that? so comforting, that rabbit dish. really nicely 'just wilted' spinach to go with it too. NICE. Meatballs with parsley polenta. That one was a zinger! Quail with turmeric smashed potatoes, dates, and...what kinda caramel was it? chili? it was tasty. I might say that the quail was a teensy bit dry. It is quail though. I KNEW what I was getting myself into. The Crispy Tempeh dish - gluten free and vegan, we were all curious enough about the avocado, rice noodle and seaweed salad combination that we had to get it. The Tempeh was the least exciting part of the dish, but the flavors, composition and subtle chili heat of the seaweed salad were enough to keep us happy. Desserts: Macaroon+chocolate mousse +citrus sauce (zzzzing) +kiwi. Pretty cool! Bailey's Coffee Cake. The boys at the table went nuts! coffees to wash it all down and get us going for the 2-hour drive back home. About halfway through our meal an eclectic gang of locals came in, I would say about 8 of them, and said hi to the owners - they were greeted warmly and sat casually around the sort-of loungey couch area to the back of the room. They snacked on desserts and had a couple beers, while some paint-smattered workin' dudes came in and enjoyed a couple Narragansetts at the bar. The previously seated diners seemed like us: foodie-types who were knocked into stunned silence and warm smiles at their table. This place seems to cater to a broad range of locals and a few traveling-types. Either way their customers have got taste and are lucky to have a place this great to take them in and serve such delicious food and drink. Others have said it but it bears repeating: with the menu changing completely every week, I have every reason to make the trek up to this place as often as possible to wrap my head around these flavors. On the drive up, I asked our group leader, the only one pre-ordained in the ways of the Krim, how he might describe the food there. He said, "I don't have quite the vocabulary for this type of thing, but the flavors come together in a way that....my palate just has never experienced flavors like this. It's always surprising. Always really good." AMEN. What a hoot! I had so much fun at this restaurant, which is easily my new favorite. I'll be seeing you soon, Black Krim!

Had a delicious dinner here this weekend. Very friendly staff-we chatted about whiskey with the gal at the bar for some time before choosing a table. It was early, but gradually the place filled up. Enticing small, medium and large plate menu. Great wine and beer list with a liquor license coming shortly. Artful drink lists on chalkboard. Pork belly and shepherd's pie starters- delicious and special. Memorable. Mains of shredded beef over blue cheese bread pudding (wow) and a reduction (beets? It was red and delicious), and tuna hot pot were both worthy, though the beef was our fav. I could have licked the plate. The atmosphere is cosy-roadhouse in a forgotten time. Rosy light. Quality art show of photography and paintings. Music was Ragtime meeting Django and Grapelli. Looking forward to returning soon. Btw, the restaurant is in what was the neighborhood barber shop complete with taxidermy. My husband used to get his hair cut there. (The barber shop moved onto main st).

This place really is outrageously good. The food is always changing and extremely fresh. Sarah, who runs the kitchen beautifully, is a talented culinary wizard; the Black Krim never ceases to amaze me. You walk in and instantly feel at home. It's such a wonderful place in such a small Vermont town. If you are anywhere within an hour of here, it is worth the trek just for the meal. It is truly that magical.

My group was on a fall foliage tour and the reviews were so good that we made reservations for the six of us. When we entered, we were the first customers to arrive. The waitress was sweet. The interior was old and a little disappointing. I ordered the coconut shrimp for an entree. The service getting our entrees was so very slow. Maybe that's why my shrimp was cold when it arrived. The shrimp was undercooked and had no taste at all. I let the others in my group have a taste, and they agreed. The only one that really liked his meal was my husband who had quail. As a group, we were very disappointed in the meal. We definitely will not be back.

My favorite restaurant in Vermont. Such a special, charming atmosphere and the food and the beers and the service are all phenomenal. And perfect for any occasion, and for anything from a first date to a big group and anything in between. LOVE.THIS.PLACE......

Our group of four went here on a Saturday night; the tiny restaurant was surprisingly quiet (only two parties besides ours) and the welcoming, cozy atmosphere was very pleasant. The menu had a number of reasonably-priced appetizers, but the dinner entree selection was rather limited (only 5 or 6 choices) priced around $15 each. We ordered 2 chicken pot pie entrees and 2 beef stew entrees and planned to share. Our thoughts: Chicken pot pie - flavorful, but there was hardly any chicken and the vegetables were minced into baby food-sized pieces. The biscuit was tasty. Beef stew - this was more like pot roast meat served over brown rice with raw kale. While tasty, it was not like beef stew whatsoever. A variety of vegetables and a thicker sauce would have made the dish much better. Overall we were disappointed with the food because although it was good, it wasn't really what we were expecting and portion sizes were too small for the $15 price. We cleaned our plates and were still hungry! We also expected great service considering the restaurant wasn't even busy, but the waitress was not very attentive or too friendly. All in all, even though the food tasted good, unless this place adjusts their entree prices (or introduces a bread basket or salad to come with your entree) I don't think we would come back here -- $77 (including tip) for four people to leave a restaurant feeling hungry isn't a good dining experience in my book!

I love this spot! They change their menu every week , so there's always something new to try. I've been there four times. Everything is fresh and made from scratch. What I love the most about the Krim is the ambience, it's warm, cozy and very inviting.

What a treat! Ate there on Saturday 12/1 before the performance of "8" at the Chandler Music Hall. We enjoyed the edamame, onion tart, kale salad, and steamed cod over lentils. All of which were delicious. The space is funky and comfortable, with offbeat folk artwork hung on the walls (and for sale). There's a decent, reasonably priced wine list and the staff are friendly. Definitely worth a stop when in Randolph.

Unbelievably good food! Always fresh and portion sizes just right. Incredibly friendly staff and fantastic outdoor seating. This is a one of a kind restaurant you won't find anywhere else. I wish I could come here every night for dinner; highly recommended.

My fiancé and I came here on our way to Burlington on a drive from NYC during a wicked snowstorm. Our friends had recommended that we stop here for some of their ever changing menu delicacies. We were greeted by great staff and felt we were in a crossroads of Brooklyn and Montreal. Highly recommended atmosphere and great food. The drink concoctions looked fantastic. Will be back!

Food, service and atmosphere are all fantastic here. Sake cocktails are light and fun, their incredibly fresh, changing menu is wonderful. The owners are always there and happy to engage with you. They bring something really special to the area. I love the small plates as well as the beer and wine selection. Good date place as well as a fun place to meet up in a group with friends. The yelp description says "ethnic food" but they just have a really diverse menu. I'd say most of the menu is more modern American, but they do offer house-made kimchee and other asian specialties.

This is worth a side trip! A varied menu of local, fresh food. As vegans, we were thrilled with their willingness to create vegan options from the Tofu Sliders to the cheese-less flatbread. We will definitely make this a stop on our next trip to central Vermont.

Surprisingly inexpensive and delicious cuisine in a cozy, out-of-the-way place. Despite a somewhat limited menu, the ingredients are fresh and supplied by local farms. I had the Kimchi and Thai Style Chicken Crepes which were excellent. For the quality of the food, the dinner prices are extremely reasonable, $3 for the Kimchi and $12 for the chicken. Also a nice selection of local brews on tap. I also had the $3 Panna Cotta which I would recommend as well. Definitely worth the trip.
