We visited for the weekend, saw the sign and it looked like it would be a nice place, and we were wrong. Unfortunately there is not much choice in the area. Contending for my vote of "worst place I ever ate" and way overpriced for the low food quality, slow service, and small portions. The first night, our friends, who visit the area often, said this "restaurant" was nearby our B&B. We ate downstairs with our group, The service was slow as the bartender had to take care of the bar and the tables. He was knowledgeable as far as local / craft beers, if you are into that ( I am not). For a relatively small-med size menu you would think the execution of the food would be high standard, it is not. With it being one of the few eateries in the area you would think they would have a fresher quality of food, if only for the reason of volume, instead it looks and tastes frozen, and low end frozen at best. We didn't fall for the "cook on a lava stone" gimmick, although, I imagine if done correctly, it would be a nice experience. I had 'Smoked pork w/ BBQ sauce', pork loin was not bad, BBQ sauce tasted like it came out of a plastic jug, and obviously not made in house. The fries were bulk frozen industrial quality, sting beans (yellow and green) were limp, tasteless and of the frozen quality. I tasted my fiancée's clam strips ( which she was excited for) and they were overcooked to nearly fryer burnt, dry, rubbery, and aside from the over-fried commercial breading flavor, had a stale, low quality, almost fake clam taste. It took several trips of the waiter/bartender to bring out any one persons complete dish ( condiments- tartar, ketchup, sour cream etc_). Out of necessity and convenience we were back to this place for the last night dinner before we all headed our own ways home. The waitress took about 10 mins to realize we didn't even have menus, another 5 to get our dinks (4 sodas, 1 water and 1 wine) the wine actually took an extra 5 minute on top of that. Took longer before she came by to even take the orders, you can see where this is going. I had the "SouthWest soup" or a normal person who was given this would call it; ".. just a cup of really watery chili.." my fiancée had New England Clam Chowder, I had a taste, and it seemed canned with a heavy fake bacon flavor. Salads were of the pre cut, bagged, ' mixed fancy greens" quality, with off the shelf dressing (what little of it they give you). We decided to reduce our suffering and order just an appetizer to share, we ordered 'Nachos", cant mess up Nachos right? WRONG!... worst Nachos ever. Cheese on top was dried out and sort of burnt but yet not really melted, raw bell peppers, dry "beef" which was pretty flavorless, chips were said to be "homemade" but again were just bulk restaurant supply chips, next layer of cheese wasn't even melted but still in a cold clump, Guacamole and salsa (which were extra $$) were of same quality as everything else. Stay away and just go across the street to the chain with the big yellow letter logo.

Went here for some breakfast. It took forever. Food was typical diner food, bacon was stuck together, yeah I know there are worse things in the world but this yelp so i can complain about those things. Server was nice enough, kind of mannish figure.

Their home-made toast is delicious and their prices are affordable. We stopped for breakfast and enjoyed everything we ate.

Terrible fries with lunch, they were cold, greasy and soggy. Stay with weekend breakfast buffets.

It has changed back to the Charlmont - new management I hear. Arrived at 8:30 Sat morning. We were the fourth booth to be seated, No other customers. Apparently we were invisible. After sitting for 10 minutes (with our coffee which was promptly brought), we had to ask to order. 25 minutes later we informed them that we were planning to leave, as we had no coffee refills, water glasses that were never filled, and noone explaining the delay. .They assured us the meal was coming soon and it did. "Enjoy!" said the visibly peeved waiter. We never saw a server again- no check-in. meanwhile there were 3 waitresses around the greeting station with our waiter/ manager. Not sure what they were supposed to do. One nice waitress saved the meal- she smiled and acknowledged our unacceptable service.

I went with family for the Easter lunch buffet. All of the food tasted as if it was frozen or canned. The mashed potatoes were clearly from a box, even the slices of ham and turkey tasted like they were frozen. The stuffing was just bread and water. I know this because our waitress told us so. She laughingly admitted that the person who made it forgot to add the oil, celery, and seasonings, so it was just water and bread. Everything else was really bland, so maybe they thought no one would notice. Except the gravy, which mostly tasted like salt. This was the worst meal I've had in ages.

Today I had what was one of the worst meals of my life. I tried the french onion soup. The soup was lukewarm, even though it had to be broiled to melt the cheese over the top. The crouton in the soup tasted stale. It was unbearably salty. I decided to then try the hot turkey sandwich. Gravy-salty and gross. Mashed potatoes-fake and cold. Turkey-tasted old. The best things on the plate were the white bread and canned cranberry sauce. I will not be back. Oh, and with tip this mess cost me $20.

I'm a little surprised by the poor reviews here. If you go expecting a high-end dining experience, you might be disappointed; if you go expecting decent casual dining, you should be happy. I get mostly breakfast here but lunch has also been good. Service used to be iffy but the waitstaff recently has been great. My biggest complaint is the home fries - I don't care for them deep fried. Try this place. You'll probably like it.

Had breakfast. The oatmeal was good but for 4 bucks I got enogh to last me a week. I would have rather paid less and not thrown the food away. Could only eat a 1/4 of it. Also got a bowl of fruit which was was fermenting. Perhaps they should serve it for happy hour instead of breakfast.

I have been twice to the restaurant and I must say that their prices are way to high for a "diner" in a small town in Vermont..The food was average, nothing to brag about. I was in a hurry the other day and stopped for BLT to go..almost $8.00! for one sandwich?? I should of went to mcdonalds or janas cupboard in Jeffersonville!

No question about it, this was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been so unfortunate to visit. First off, it smelled like a barn. Granted, given the locale, this could have been from a patron's shoes. But there were just as many flies in the restaurant as in my mother-in-law's barn, and for that, there is just no excuse. Perhaps they were attracted to all the crumbs that were resting in the back of our booth. My in-laws stop by here some times for the liver and onions -- but my MIL says it has gone downhill and that her dish was not cooked like it used to be. It was just slightly overcooked, but with liver, that is enough to ruin it. The onions were diced and barely brown -- nowhere near what you could call caramelized. She says the bacon used to come in strips, but here we just got old bacon crumbled up as if it was going to be used to top a cobb salad. With that, you get your coice of potato and the vegetable fo the day for $9.50. Unfortunately, I chose my potato poorly. The fries were limp, soggy, and flavorless. Ugh. The clam chower my husband ordered (($5.65 for a bowl, $3.95 for a cup) was way salty but not creamy, had some kind of cheesy flavor added (why?), and the potatoes were undercooked. There might have been a clam in there at some point, but I guess my husband ate it. ugh. The lettuce of our caesar salad ($8.75) was limp and the dressing was terrible and clearly from a bottle. Now, there are good caesar dressings to be had from a bottle -- Kraft comes to mind -- but Stone Grill is really aiming for the bottom of the barrel, here. The menu cover, when read after the dining experience, is filled with humor. It claims that the Grill is "prepared to offer you a unique dining experience" and that their intent is to "bring a new level of dining to our guests." Ha ha. Ha. They claim to support local farmers and buy local produce and meats, but they seem to be doing this by getting the day-olds...and the flies that come with it.

Great food. Burgers were cooked perfectly (they cooked medium and medium well properly). It did take a little while for food to come up. Place was pretty busy on a weekday for lunch.

First off: this review is from August of 2011, it's just been sitting in my queue for a while. I brought my family here for lunch when they came to visit from out of state. I could tell right off that the owners of the business were probably new to the game and/or had just taken over this place, based on the fact that all the waitstaff were wearing uniforms with a different restaurant's name embroidered on them. So I went into this with pretty low expectations. The appetizer of wings that came out and was shared among us was actually pretty decent, so I have to give them credit for that. But I ordered the fried shrimp/fried clam combo as my main dish, and there was need for improvement there. I couldn't taste any fish at all; just a mass of fried batter in every bite As for the rest of my family, none of them complained about their meals, and they seemed to enjoy what they ordered. For that, Stone Grill gets one extra star. But there's definitely room for improvement.

Perfect breakfast. Great waitress. The waffle was so well done with real maple syrup.

I had such high hopes, then I read the other yelp reviews (after I sat down). We were skipped in line, for seating. I overheard this guy who ordered take out say "I want to burn this place to the ground". He asked for ketchup for the take-out and they didn't have it, which should have been a red flag of the kind of operation. The stone grill is a place with one gimmick (the hot stone) and it is confused otherwise. It can't attract the high end crowd from Stowe, so it has to make its money off the locals. That said, it is closer to an IHOP than anything else. The salad was old, the rolls (all two of them) weren't hot or warm. And the reason why I came there the hot stone, was a whole another issue. If I AM GOING TO COOK MY MEAL, via stone, I EXPECT EVERYTHING ELSE TO BE COOKED RIGHT! The mash-potatoes were luke warm, and the gravy was the worst I've ever had. If I am going to cook my steak on a stone, the rest of the food should be hot too. I have to say, it really wasn't worth the $20 for the steak. It was fun to cook it on the stone, but really that novelty wore off quickly. I would say don't go here if you are on vacation, worst place ever. Avoid this place, don't pull in, keep driving.

We moved to the area almost 2 years ago and gave the Stone Grill at least 5 tries, and decided in the end, we are just not impressed. Granted, we moved here from the land of amazing diners (New Jersey), but this didn't even meet our expectations for the worst of diners we have tried in the past. Our first attempt was their Sunday brunch, which kind of has the air of a brunch you might get at an Elks Club for Father's Day. Yeah, the selection is there - juices, breads, eggs, sausage, bacon, cereals, pancakes, and biscuits with gravy. But the only really yummy item was the maple sausage, which I can buy for cheap at the Price Chopper down the street and cook up at home where they are actually warm and not dried out. Our next couple of tries were all lunches, and the general pattern is salty, flavorless soups, what appear to be previously frozen products (chicken fingers, burger patties), and not-so-fresh vegetables. The one positive is I find the staff to be very friendly. I just feel like this is one of those restaurants that needs a serious intervention to remind them what really good food can be, without that much more effort or expense. So sad it wasn't what we had hoped for, as we really miss having a good diner.

There were three of us and not one of the meals was worth eating. The chicken Alfredo was a little salty but way to greasy and the chicken was over done. The medium rare steak was medium well and the scallops were very salty. The halibut was pretty good, but either the French fries were what was left in the kitchen or they were just over cooked. Sorry we wanted to like it but it is just not good and the prices are way to high for the quality of food.

Stopped here on our way home from an event at Craftsbury. We were greeted promptly and the staff was friendly. We ordered French Onion soup, chef salad and BLT's. Everything came out looking great. BLT was on homemade wheat. Yum! Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I work and dine in Burlington all the time. The food was just as good as places there. As far as price goes, its what I would have expected to pay. My only comment would be maybe get rid of carpet and put in tile.Carpet + restauraunt = dirty.

Upon recommendation from "hostess" (she was covering for waitress who couldn't keep up )(I only counted six booths)...we ordered calamari as the special appetizer of the day. It was tasteless small bits and pieces (the last dregs of pre made frozen unseasoned convenience store bag)? Served with a heavy marinara sauce. Not good. Salad arrived very soon after. It was decent but the croutons were very small and hard, reminding me of store bought stuffing cubes. After just a few bites of salad...the main course arrived! The waitress/hostess giggled as she commented on piling up the food on us. I told her it would be nice to be able to relax and enjoy one course before another was brought out. She just said"sorry bought that" and walked away. We ordered the Delmonico steaks....one rare and one medium rare. They came out medium rare and medium and both were very tough. We both left half of our food and gave up out of disappointment. Prices are far above the quality of food, service and atmosphere.

There are some bad reviews here. This place isn't so bad. I had a great steak here, good gumbo as well. They have an awesome sunday brunch as well. It's diner-like, the price is right for a quick meal. Not as bad as some of these reviews at all.

Had dinner and drinks at the downstairs pub.Sat at the bar. We both had salad plates, wife had hers with scallops, I had combo plate. Both were excellent, scallops fresh, perfectly cooked, generous portion. Greens and veggies grown at Stone Grill Gardens down the road. Heirloom tomatoes, local blueberries, all good. SG has gotten some bad reviews, probably deserved. But it has made giant strides towards improving and is definitely worth a try now. We will certainly go back.

The StoneGrill Restaurant & Pub is an interesting place and maybe it should be split in two entries on Yelp as it is really a diner on the ground floor and a separate pub downstairs (with the door on the left side of the building). At the same time, both are closely linked since they offer a shared menu. I need to put things into context first: This is Morrisville, Vermont which is a small town a bit off from the more touristy centers of Vermont ike nearby Stowe. In such, the options for food and drink are more limited and I believe a review should be done in context, not comparing it to places where there is more options. That said, I really wished that small town would all have a place like this! As far as the diner part is concerned, it looks like a traditional diner but with a Vermont twist: They try to serve local produces as much as they can and they claim to make their bread on site. I had breakfast here on a weekday and it was a fun experience. Customers are local workers and it is always fun to eavesdrop on their conversation and have a feel of what matters to the true locals. They had a $5 early bird special (before 9 am) with two eggs, toasts and hash browns. With the $3 coupon that I got from my motel next door, it is a pretty cheap breakfast! The Stonegrill and the Sunset Motel have a common owner which explain the coupon. Eggs were cooked sunny side up (as ordered) to perfection. They offer a good selection of toasts and i opted for the sourdough, Hash browns were a bit bland but thankfully they do have Tabasco to spice it up. Service was friendly. I experienced the Pub part the prior night. The first thing I saw upon entrance is the Wednesday night specials: $2 for a pint of draft and $10 for wings and draft. I mean, $2 for a pint, how good is the beer and how good is the choice? Well, it turned out, quite good! They have a large draft selection which included a "Pumpkin Imperial Stout" (stouts are among my favorite beers) from local microbrewery Rock Art Brewery which was delicious. They served my chicken wings hot and spicy as ordered. I decided to have a french onion soup to complete my meal but it was the low point of my experience... should have gone with something else like a salad. Crowd is local and service was friendly. All in all, Stonegrill is a great place for Morrisville and I can't wait to be back!
