Arguably the best place for breakfast in Montpelier behind the much heralded Kismet Kitchen. Was visiting and wanted to try KK but they were closed, so we ended up here. The waitstaff was friendly, and all the food came out quickly. The chef's special omelette was good - it had goat cheese, spinach, and a few other things. Worth checking out - limited seating.

This is a tiny little place with standard middle-of-the-road diner food. All the good reviews seem to be about breakfast. Unfortunately, we went for lunch. A couple of notes about the interior. My booth seat was WET, I don't know if it was due to being just wiped down but that, combined with the vague almost wet dog smell that lingered in the back made the place unappealing. Also, you could see the employees beverage cups scattered across the back side of the kitchen counter (out of sight for the cooks, but in direct sight for the customers) which just makes the environment seem sloppy. My turkey and avocado sandwich was okay. The mayo was supposed to be chipotle flavored but you couldn't taste anything remotely spicy in the sandwich. Also, for a cold sandwich, having the multigrain bread toasted was weird for me. The fries are freshly cooked but are not all that crispy and are not seasoned with salt at all. Maybe there's some dietary concerns with the general age bracket that visits here, but unsalted fries are bland bland bland. The bill was almost $30 for two sandwiches and a soda & water which, in my opinion, is way overpriced for the food we received. Looking at their online menu, you could definitely grab a better lunch for the same cost at NECI on Main just down the street and at probably any other restaurant within walking distance. (Something to keep in mind)

TERRIBLE! Do NOT eat here. I was lured from advertising saying 'local, local, local', but what i received was trashy food that came from a greasy, dirty, environment. I ordered a lunch special of hamburger & fries for $7 which seemed great until I received it in a styrofoam box & opened it to see too small white bread buns with an even smaller patty & NOTHING else. No mayo. No mustard. No ketchup. Ooooh wait- they handed me another small plastic container w a lid for two tiny pickle slices?! Really? This Vermont. It was insulting. I asked for lettuce, tomato, mayo, etc & they said it wld b an upcharge. (After I had tipped a $1 for a take out order.) I felt so disappointed, knew I wld personally never go back, but here now I decided I shld reallllly make an effort to have people know not to go here. They really do not care about delivering a satisfying healthy meal. Its fast food serving greasy food in un-consciously and irresponsibly purchased containers, capitalizing on 'local' as a marketing scam. So angry! Waste of money- & nothing tasted good.

We were disappointed. Should have realized the pancakes and waffles are frozen at Krusteze factory and defrosted at restaurant, same as mc d's but mcd's serve them hot!!! Coffee good service minimal. Toilets were clean 2x2 closets. Sorry I hoped to get more for $23.00!

Meh. My pancakes came out slightly burnt and I took a big gulp of expired milk. This place is overrated. I also want to say that is review got a response from whom I presume to be from the staff six months later. It gives insight to either the staff or the people that frequent here. "Perhaps if your waitress hadn't been so busy cleaning up the constant messes your terribly neglected children kept making, she would have had time to check on the quality of your food."

Everything was fine. I had pancakes and for the price I paid there could have been a couple more on the stack. I'd go back :)

I have a passion for bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches, which I have eaten most mornings for breakfast since I first discovered their glory when I was a kid. That being said, I have very high standards for breakfast, and I was not disappointed. Their BE&C was near the top of my best ever list! The home fries were very good as well. The fruit cup had fresh and perfectly ripe strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, bananas, oranges, honeydew, and cantaloupe. I love coffee just as much as I love bacon, egg, and cheeses, and I could not complain. Highly recommend this place!!

This little diner is so cute! Montpelier is a two street town, charming and welcoming yearound. There are several great restaurants downtown, but coffee corner is one of my favorites. My family and I always make a point to stop here for a delicious belgian waffle with blueberries, whipped cream and real vermont maple syrup plus bacon on the side when I'm really hungry. They have great soup and sandwiches too. This greasy spoon is nothing fancy, but if you don't mind the closet sized bathroom and teeny tiny booths, you're going to love this place.

5 Stars for Best Eggs Benedict I've ever had. We come here on our way home from Burlington every few months or so and have a tradition of getting their eggs Benedict. It's a tradition because THEY'RE THE BEST WE'VE EVER HAD!!!! (and we can be a tad bit food snobby at times ;) I also just read that they only serve them on Sundays so be careful when you go expecting them. Oh yeah, and they have the best home fries too (ask to burn them) no salt or pepper needed! I usually dont order anything else so unfortunately I don't have insight on other menu items. The place is very old school and cramped, so sometimes there is a wait for tables, but they have a small counter and two community tables you can sit at if you don't mind sitting with strangers (we like making new friends so we don't mind). They also have local art on the walls which they rotate, and lots of crazy colored chefs hats hanging from the ceiling. I am in Stowe vt right now, and I think we are going to bypass the tourist traps so we could get some coffee corner!

Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and a cup of the corn chowder. The chowder was very watery and kind of flavorless. The bacon cheeseburger was not only flavorless, but tasted very strange. While it was a medium burger, the middle was somewhat raw. Therefore, I was not a fan of the food. The restaurant is tiny and has poor seating. The service was nice, however.

A nice place for breakfast with good, fresh ingredients.

The best and freshest ingredients is what I found here! I ordered ( and highly recommend) the maple-walnut bread french toast with fresh fruit & maple syrup. The most delicious breakfast I had in Vermont on my annual vacation - I tell you it made my day. All the employees were busy, but very friendly and helpful. This chef will be returning for more every time I'm anywhere near Montpelier. The new Ownership Team and Staff have definitely refreshed and improved the quality on all accounts - Keep it Up!

Best eggs benedict in Vermont. I wish they offered it as a menu item but sadly it's only offered on Sundays. I am not sure what the people who are giving the low reviews were expecting. This is VERMONT. If you don't like it, get out.

I grew up in Montpelier and had gone there to eat with my mom and sisters many times throughout the years. The service as I recall was good as was the food. I now am a senior citizen who likes to stop in for breakfast or lunch sometimes when I am downtown. The service was fair but not great and the last breakfast I ordered was french toast (my favorite)! I also ordered a side of corned beef hash. When the tiny plate of hash was set down in front of me I was shocked. It was not more than three small bites and was burned. I felt like this may have been someones leftovers. I would be ashamed to serve a portion like that! The french toast was pretty good except the little jug of syrup you are served is stone cold and I do not believe it is real maple syrup. I know what real maple syrup tastes like no matter what grade it is. I feel that I paid a very high price for that meal and will probably not eat there again.

Now I'm not a huge breakfast-coffee-place kinda girl, but the tempting descriptions got me. And we were hungry. Waffles. With whipped cream and real maple syrup and fresh blueberries. To die for. We sat in the front booth/table that you share if you have fewer than a lot of people. It was the perfect people-watching spot. The people working there were very friendly.

I love this place, my only real complaint is that i wish it were bigger so that i could go there without the wait time, but knowing that this is usually the case during peak hours I try to just plan ahead enough time so that its not a problem. sadly i am almost never here on a sunday so i have only gotten to experience the eggs benedict once, i still dream of getting back there to taste them again someday.best breakfast in town in my opinion, unless you like wasting money on kismet which is over-rated with snooty service. the service here is always friendly and upbeat and no matter how busy i've never had a complaint. highly recommend trying it out

This place looks great from the outside. Tiny, quaint, little breakfast diner- usually the best places to get a home cooked breakfast. It is adorned with signs for local foods and homemade breads. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre at best and the portions are insulting. We will not return and would not recommend it.

Service was friendly but the pancakes did not taste good. Might try again if in the area. Also no cheaper that breakfast at the hotel.

I've had two experiences at this cute old (100 yrs old) diner. The first one was very good service and pretty good food and the second one was bad service and pretty good food. I will explain.... First....the environment. Very small diner w/ a couple bigger tables where you can share seating w/ others (which we did both times because we like the idea of maybe making conversations w/ people we don't know and being friendly) and there are about 8 counter spots and about 4 or 5 booth seats. The two bathrooms in the back are TINY but to be expected in a hundred year old location. Clean bathrooms which is a good sign. I'm sorry to say that the people with whom we sat down at the big tables with were not very social even though we gave a smile and made a couple gestures to. Oh well....we tried. Second...the food. The first time we ate I ordered a biscuit w/ homemade gravy (with locally made sausage) and an egg. My partner ordered an omelet and home fries. The sausage gravy was good but it didn't have any herbs or seasonings in it. The flavor from the sausage was good and I am not big on salt but would have liked some kind of herb or seasoning to spruce it up. The biscuit was ok. It was a cake-like biscuit rather than a flaky southern style. But I've found biscuits in the NW and NE to be cake-like. I was satisfied. My partner loved his omelet and home fries. We thought our food and dining experience was worth another visit. That would prove to be more disappointing than we knew. Third...the service. First time we went in on a Saturday a.m. our waitress was very pleasant and even as busy as she was she was very good about checking on our coffee and making sure we were satisfied w/ our food. Sadly, I don't recall her name but she was over 30 and had reddish full hair w/ glasses and had a nice smile. The second visit we had Kate. She started out ok, but after she delivered our coffee and I asked for "sugar in the raw" packets that were missing from the holder she said "Oh, there aren't any?" and then grabbed 3 packets from the holder on the counter seat area and handed them to me. I guess 3 was all we should get for our cups of "bottomless coffee" (as advertised in the menu). When our food arrived she asked us if we needed more coffee and we got a refill and then asked after 5 or 10 min. how the food was and we both replied "good". Then Kate started in cleaning out the mini-refrigerator that was behind the counter (within eyeshot of us) and busied herself there. It was a while before she made eye contact our way. I didn't realize until I began eating my one egg that it was cooked wrong (yolk was too hard). When I got her attention I told her that I ordered my egg over medium (white cooked but yolk wet) and it was over hard and couldn't dip my toast into the yolk. She told me that I ordered it wrong and should have asked for over easy. Well, I've been ordering eggs out at restaurants since I was 15 (over 25 yrs) and everytime I ordered over medium the white was cooked and the yolk was wet. So after telling me I've been ordering incorrectly all these years she went to the chef and explained to him how I wanted my one egg. That was nice of her! (sarcasm). I got my properly cooked egg and then that was it. No check backs and no more coffee. That is until I took my partner's cup and mine and scooted out of the bench seat and went to the counter to ask the other waitress who was standing there if I could get a refill. Kate saw her refill the cups and said to her co-worker "How nice to refill the coffee". What kind of shit talk was that? I just ignored it and went back to the table and took that into account when paying the bill and leaving the TIP. We left about $1.19 more than I wanted to leave (1 cent) on a $18.80 bill (an omelet plate special and a 1 egg/toast/home fries and 2 coffees). I also left Kate a note on a napkin informing her that her service was RUDE behavior and why. We got up to leave and I said to her (as she was still busying herself w/ the cleaning job) we left the money on the table. She said "Ok, thanks." and we walked out the door. We went to the corner to cross the street and I noticed while waiting for the signal that one of the owners, Michael (I heard his name called while in the restaurant) had walked outside and began fingering the flower box on the window and looking at us. I wanted to turn around and say "What are you looking at?" but I didn't know until just now that he was one of the owners and not an employee. He wears an apron and stands behind the counter. The food wasn't good enough to endure a third experience. There are more local, independent food places here to avoid a potentially rude experience again.

With the limited all day breakfast places around, this one is the best around. I always order the same thing, breakfast sandwich with tofu and sprouts, I think just for the novelty of it, hash brown patty and fruit. Always greasy, always good. I've brought boston friends here and they have enjoyed themselves, too. Service is hit or miss, some days its great home town service, some days the waitstaff hang around talking and not taking your order. But overall, for Central VT, its pretty much the only all day breakfast place I go to.

We went there on a visit to the mountains from NYC and thought the food was great. Bacon whimpy burger was awesome! So were their omelette's and sandwiches. Friendly wait staff and fast service.

A solid and tasty diner-like breakfast and lunch spot at the corner of State and Main. Cute space, a sense of history without a fake "ye olde / old timey" atmosphere. The staff are friendly well organized and deliver up plates of luscious blueberry pancakes, eggs, a couple great kinds of sausage both sweet (links with maple) and savory (patties with sage) and real Vermont maple syrup. The coffee is a little bit of a disappointment leaning towards too light and lacking rich taste (one quarter French roast could solve that). Use of local ingredients further boosts tthis place.

The Coffee Corner sits on the "corner" (get it?) of State and Main, downtown Montpelier. The rest of the review of this cheeseburger goes down hill from here. I am a Montpelierite but NEVER plan to go into the Coffee Corner. I find myself in the Coffee Corner about 3-4 times a year just to see if the little diner that could improved the quality of its food but my trips to it are never on purpose as in: "Come on kids, let's go to the Coffee Corner for a burger and fries...no time to put our coats on...let's go now...kids?! let's go! come on downstairs and let's get in the car...We're going to the Coffee Corner for a burgers and fries!...kids? hellloooo? (stomping upstairs...)....where are they? (opens closet door in one of the bedrooms upstairs)...(kids shivering in horror)....Child one (crying as if in defeat): "Daddy, you said we would never go there again...waaaa...waaaa" Child two: "You made a promise Daddy..and you said we can call child services if you make us go there again...so give me your cell"....Me: "Coffee Corner? No, I said we are going to Disneyland guys....you must of heard me wrong, sorry for the false alarm!" (I guess I will have to go alone one of these days)...Well, today was one of "these days." This cheeseburger and fries meal was an "oh, yeah burger". As in (saying to myself): -"oh yeah, the burger is very small" -"oh yeah, they burned the burger again and there are those burned edges strings falling off the burger" -"oh yeah, the fries are awful (small little fries (but not cute) and no taste) -"oh yeah, they don't have a good ketchup (and the clue should have been the squeeze bottle)" -"oh yeah, I said to myself I shouldn't come back here again" -"oh yeah, remember that if you tell the kids we are going to the Coffee Corner for a burger and fries they were allowed to call child services on me...so don't do that anymore" You get the picture... I don't want to turn this review into a root and branch critique of the Coffee Corner...I bet it looks really cute to the tourists who flock to Vermont...but I also bet a good number of these folks had their first "oh yeah moments" as well. A more thorough critique may be on the way... Overall, this burger is better than the frozen patty my neighbor brought over a while ago (and one that I overcooked (read here in the archives for that review) but this is a restaurant/dinner...come on! Thumbs down...(until I come up with a better rating system)....but it's definitely NOT a BurgerMeNow Burger...Remember, it's an "Oh yeah, burger"

If you happen to find yourself in Montpelier, look no further if you crave a classic American breakfast place with that independent feel to it. My review may be outdated again. It's been years, at least, since I was here. But hey, it left an impression on me. I even took a picture of the place before digital cameras were popular. I remember it being very comfortable and in proximity of the State Capitol Bldg. All the usual stuff: pancakes, french toast, eggs, bacon, coffee, orange juice etc., and very organized, clean, and comfortable. Nothing negative to report but not quite the best ever. I reserve that for some other places.

I was appalled by the discrimination I received from the management, and will never frequent this establishment again! I drove 15 miles from my home to go to breakfast at the Coffee Corner on Saturday. The entire counter was taken by a large family, and everyone had just ordered. There was a large party with several children at the family table, and they had yet to order. I was alone. There was a woman and her child in line before me, and a couple came in after me. I was told by the waitress that the manager had said that I would not be seated since they were busy and I was a "single". This is absolutely discriminatory! I was appalled. They told me that I could wait until something opened at either the family table or counter, but would not get a booth. I went to the Wayside.

I been here 3 times in 8 or 9 days. The waitress are super friendly where everyone know your family after 1 time eating there. The Place is small but very cozy and they are open 7 days a week from 6-3pm. I try their saugages, eggs and cheese muffin with a side of their take on home style potato and it does make me happy when i finish my meal there. Today I try and order something different so I order the Bryan (corned beef harsh w/2 eggs and some toast. I even order the sweet potato fries with it and everything came out pretty big portion expect for the sweet potato fries, alittle small and burnt like but it tasted ok. I enjoy eating the eggs w.some corned beef harsh on top w.a touch ok ok alot of tabasco sauce and it was yummuy. I will come back when i get a chance and maybe try something else. I would recommend this place to anyone for a great feel and evironment,

I love this place! The food is great every time and I highly recommend the Raisin Cinnamon bread when choosing your toast. Their coffee always tastes great and they will substitute soy milk for you if you ask. I love their home fries, poached eggs, bread, and french toast. I try to get a new thing every time because its so good. The waiter Mike (I think that's his name) that works at the counter is such an efficient waiter too. He has great recommendations, a good attitude, and always refills your coffee/water before you even have to ask. LOVE IT HERE!

The Coffee Corner is a small bustling diner (open til 3 PM daily) with great food, a wonderfully warm neighborhood feel, reasonable prices, and snappy service. The breakfast menu (served all day) has daily specials, such as Eggs Benedict served a few different ways, a Greek ometet, and fancy French toast. Home fries (the specialty -- big chunks of red potatoes with spices and onions -- don't miss these!!!) come with most breakfasts, but you can also order them on their own.The diner is also known for its home-baked bread from Manga Bakery-- of many varieties. The menu is set up, like any great diner, so you can mix and match items to suit your fancy. The Hollandaise sauce was out of this world -- light, lemony yet diner-style-hearty, with plenty left to soak up with the potatoes. Our waitress, Granny, was a north-of-70 sparkler clearly loved by all the staff. What a sweetheart. All in all, a great experience -- where regulars are a big source of business but strangers are quickly treated like friends.
