I've eaten here 10 or so times since it opened. I've worked in downtown Montpelier for a while so all the lunch places get boring after a while so even if something earns 3 stars, I'll still frequent the place. What I like about the place? Decent bagels- chewy, good size and now they have 6 flavors of cream cheese whereas when they started they only had plain. Really? A bagel place with only PLAIN CC? Good god. I bet they got enough complaints to smarten up and get a few more. Then you have the "Mexican" part, the burrito or a taco (just a smaller burrito) or all the fillings in a bowl. All high quality items and seem to be fresh as well. They charge 1.00 for Guac, which is completely absurd. Some of helpers that put your order together, literally put on 2 teaspoons of guac.! I've asked them to put more on and they want to charge 1.50! That is just not worth it! Plus, for a burrito, you are paying $8 and if you want meat, tempeh, pork or a kale medley added on, you are talking 10 bucks... for a burrito... without guac! You can get brown or white rice, wheat or corn soft shell and 3 different kinds of beans. Then you have a nice selection of "free" toppings but these people do not apply them liberally. Oh, cheese, is free though. The taco is a waste of money. The shell crumbles when you pick it up to bite into it and you have a sloppy mess that might as well go in the trash. The doofy cashiers, NEVER give you napkins. Um, hello? Messy Mexican food geniuses! If you go around the corner past the cashier, you will find napkins and to-go silverware. However, don't count on it because they are frequently out of either knives or forks and according to the doofy cashier- she can't fathom why you'd want (need) a knife or fork... even if you get the "burrito in a bowl." The cashiers, if you ask for a bag, well they certainly oblige, by GIVING you a bag. Want your 15 dollar lunch in the bag? Go ahead and put in there yourself! I've once asked the cashier to do it for me. I don't think she thought that was part of her job. Now, I have only ordered take out since I am on lunch break but this is a cafeteria style cafe. No servers. Huge turn over already in the month they have been there. Lines used to be out of the door at lunch time and now you can usually go in right at 12:15 and have one person in front of you. Don't get me wrong, the food is great. They just have some issues. Some that are pretty annoying and if I wasn't burned out on PBJs and my favorite lunch spots, and didn't LOVE bagels and Mexican food... I don't think I'd be back as often as I have been. Oh and on my way out of there today, I caught a really irritating hand made sign near their trash can in a lot more words basically telling patrons to wash up your table after you are done eating. Really? Other than at my kitchen table, I have never been compelled to wipe a table down. I am not talking about tossing your napkins and uneaten food here. It actually says something like.. "did you miss a bean? Here is a napkin to go clean it up yourself." Shouldn't they be paying someone to do that? Oh and their desserts, when they have them, are decent. And they have a small drink selection.

Pros: decent food, unique environment with live music, and fast service Cons: no water in culligan water tower, no paper towels in bathroom, and sticky tables....

My husband used to love this place. He grew up just outside of Montpelier, and he says it was amazing when it first opened. I had the pulled pork, which he claims was the best. It was actually incredibly bland and a watery mess to eat. The staff seemed focused on their task of taking and making orders, and accomplished quite a feat considering the line that appeared for lunch. However, the guy ringing up the register needs some lessons on customer service and keeping track of orders. If someone orders a beer when they are paying, you should probably go get it before you start ringing up the next person's order. Honestly, the only saving grace of this place is that it is local, supports the artistic and music scene, and serves decent beer, but then again there are multiple options in Montpelier that serve better food.

I just want to say that these bagels were some of the worst quality I've ever had. Their cream cheese tasted stale as well. 2/3 times on average they would mess up my order. I've had better bagels elsewhere, so I would not recommend it here!

So I am all about local places and I would never slander but I figure I would share my experience with Bagitos. The inside of this place is very fun filled with local artwork and a friendly staff. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and it came out looking pretty awesome. After taking a bite I could tell that something was up with the egg in the sandwich. Its more like a block of scrambled eggs that have been sitting for a while. I also didn't feel very well later that evening. My girlfriend had a burrito and said it was pretty bland, she felt fine all day though. So I give the place credit for the good vibes but stay clear of their eggs.

Horrible... First time eating here and last. Had the beef burrito, which they claimed was organic. I've tasted more organic burritos from taco bell. Also, you would think organic beef would be in strands like pulled pork or in chunks so you can see the quality. Nope, not here, its ground so fine that it looks like chicken feed aka picture taco bell meat. For the 9 dollars I paid, get yourself 9 tacos from taco bell, at least there you know your eating sub par meat with fillers.

I enjoying eating the bagels that they make here. Some times the quality of the bagels is better than others. Some times you get a big bagel some times a tiny one. Sometimes the bagel is chewy sometimes it's stale tasting. Other all though I enjoy the environment offered at this place. If you are walking around town and want a quick bite you might try this place or you could walk a little ways and try the skinny pancake.

Remember when there was so much hype about the Star Wars prequel, The Phantom Menace? and do you remember that feeling when you left the theater after watching that awful movie where the chasm between the expectation of awesomeness and the reality of god-awfulness was at the greatest possible distance? Well, it may be a slight exaggeration to compare The Phantom Menace to Bagitos but this may be the same chasm between last year's "a new bagel place is opening downtown" and then the reality of the bite into that inaugural bagel from me. I pounded my fist on one of the tables like Charlton Heston slammed his fists into the sand at the end of Planet of the Apes in complete despondency (perhaps the build up was buoyed by the community spirit to support the opening of Bagitos in the aftermath of one of two major and devastating floods to hit our fair capital). I have been to Bagitos at least 10 times and: Cons: -the bagels have no taste (disguising the bagel taste with "smears" and layers of cream cheese does not take away from the lack of taste in the bagels) -the consistency issue: they are either too chewy or stale -the tacos/burritos are too bland -the tacos fall apart and all over you (try it in a bowl (still tasteless but not as messy)) -you get (for a dollar extra) spoonful of guac -the black and white cookies do not taste like black and white cookies Pros: -live blues -there is a bathroom -stable wifi (non secure network, so no banking!) -short lunch line -get a window seat and watch the Montpelier characters stroll by like movie extras on a 15 minute repeat cycle -sometimes decent cookies

It's really lame when owners choose to comment on their own restaurant, posing as someone visiting from out of state just to bump up their Yelp rating... seriously... grow up.

The hand-rolled bagels are very good- perfect size, nice crust, not too sweet or salty. Also, the breakfast egg and bagel sandwiches are very tasty and a nice treat when going out to eat.

My experiences with Mexican food in VT and NH are limited, but I like this place. I got a taco and hubby got a burrito. Mine was pulled pork and his was chicken. We got samples of all the meats. The meat is organic per one dude we talked to behind the counter. They also had tempeh and kale options. Their sauces are made from scratch and the hot sauce is hot! The burrito seemed pricey at $8 and change, but hey, it's not San Francisco's Mission district. Also, if there is organic meat, I suppose that explains things. Plus, I did see that another taco joint down the street was charging $9 for a burrito, so for the market, not too bad. You also get your choice of beans and tortilla, which I appreciate as someone who likes her fiber. I'd eat here again.

I had lunch here with my family, and we enjoyed the experience. I got a burrito with steak, my wife had a veggie burrito. The service was friendly and the burritos were good - although a bit on the pricey side for VT standards.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
