The last time I was in Midd for any length of time, I was an undergrad (class of '98) at the college and this place used to be called Angela's. Well that, along with the bewildering traffic circle and bridge suddenly placed outside, has changed a great deal. Returned to the town with a fellow college alumn (class of '99) last weekend and just had to check out this "new" tavern. I gotta say, we were pleasantly surprised. This was the most delightful dining experience we had the entire weekend! It was a Saturday night, but the place was not overly crowded for dinner. It sounded like the live music venue downstairs was bumping, but upstairs in the dining area things were nice and civilized. We were seated right away without need for reservations, and our hostess and waitress were both friendly and helpful. Of course, no one cares about all that! So how was the food? In short: amazing! My steak was prepared exactly as I specified, and was quite tasty to boot! My date's shepherd's pie was delish as well, and reminded us of our undergrad days eating the same in Proctor Hall. I'm just sad we weren't staying in town longer, as I would've definitely returned at least once more--especially to sit at the bar for a round or two. Oh, and the beer selection on tap is great! Lots of local options to choose from, which I love. Awesome addition to the Midd dining scene!

One of my favorite places on earth. I went to Middlebury College and this place is known as "the bar" for all of its affiliates. Too many memories here! Reasons why this place is awesome: -Awesome, awesome staff. Beal, you're my favorite! -Shot skis -dollar marks on the ceiling -expansive menu (and delicious!) -lots of beer -dart board If you're in the area and you're looking for the quintessential Middlebury experience, go here.

After many driving without stopping here, I finally decided to swing in for lunch! Open the first door and your immediately given 2 options: pub or dining. We chose pub, which included the bar and a ceiling peppered with decorated one dollar bills. The staff greeted us with a smile and allowed us to choose a table. Our waitress promptly brought us water and offered us beverages. I went with the new Woodchuck Gumption, delicious! I had to know how to get a dollar bill on the ceiling, so I asked :) The waitress explained, then offered colored markers if needed. (I'll leave the 'how' for you to ask while there) The menu is typical pub with a twist. Not overwhelming - which we liked. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with garlic mashed potatoes & cheddar ale soup and my fiancé ordered the Philly with fries & corn chowder. The soups came out within mins. Cheddar Ale spot on soooo yummy! Wish I could have saved some to dip my sandwich! Food took average time, my fiancé and I decided to go halfsies with our sandwiches. The pulled pork was typical. Pretzel bun, moist pork w a kick. Mashed potatoes were so dense I ended up leaving them alone. The philly was perfection, American cheese melted to a liquid state smothered over grilled peppers/onions and shaved beef wrapped in a crispy sub. Oh me oh my! Insane! I highly recommend the philly if you haven't had it!! All around experience, it was average. Glad I finally tried them out!

Well, the food is good. That's the best part. We sat at the bar, the barman spent most of the time in la la land. Good Vermonti beer selection and better-than pub food for sure. Stop by if you passing through Middlebury, VT.

This restaurant was suggested to us when we rented a motorcycle to drive thru the green mountains. Great beer selection & great food. We ordered the special burger of the day.

Amazing food. Friendly staff and a unreal tap menu. This is the place I go whenever I'm close to middlebury.

Open late, friendly staff, good beer selection. The downstairs turns into a lounge over the weekends. The upstairs is a typical pub.

One of our favorite spots in Middlebury! Just a great relaxed vibe, cool bar, and awesome food. Taco Tuesday cannot be missed, excellent! And one of few places thats open late....something really needed in this area!

Food & drink was good, but but the female bartender that worked this past Saturday was TERRIBLE. She was unfriendly, incompetent, and was making disparaging comments about the band that was playing. She acted more like a drunken patron than an employee. Not good.

Fantastic! I had the steak and cheese which they core out inside the bread and stuff it full. Great taste, great price, highly recommended! My lovely girlfriend had the Mac and cheese which was rich with Vermont cheeses and full of flavor.

should have written this 4 months ago but... my family and i had a delicious taco tuesday night dinner here. the waitress gave us samples of the taco meats which was very helpful for our young kids who don't love "spicey" food (fish won!). one daughter ordered a kids meal and the waitress happily brought an extra fruit kabob for her sister who got a taco. all the tacos were great and generously filled. great service, great food. when you have young kids you know dining out doesn't always go smoothly but this was a fantastic night out for our family.

Taco Tuesday? Yes please. We both were not too crazy about the mahi mahi tacos, but the BBQ pull pork and the traditional ground beef tacos were so good we ordered two rounds. The service was good and the place seemed clean although upon entering I did notice an odd scent, but it's an old tavern and it wasn't overpowering or anything.

GREAT atmosphere, awesome beers and ciders. Food was good too. Over all a fun time. I'd go back for sure

It's an average dive bar in a quiet town. When you are the only game in town late night it's not hard to be busy. I was wishing there was something else opened but alas there wasn't so I was stuck with this place. Let's start with the bar. It's small, understaffed and unless you order something they can't get wrong beer etc don't order it. The door guy was obnoxious and slow, both with wit and with action. He makes off handed comments that a man of lesser character would have taken offense. I wrote it off as his lack of mental horsepower and the tightly bound pony tail. On to what they consider food. I'm no Gordon Ramsey but bloody hell if these "boneless chicken wings" weren't the nastiest chunks of reheated frozen meat I have ever tasted. The carrots were fresh though so that was nice. The sauce on the wings I think bbq Hawaiian was tasty if the wings were edible which they were not. My recommendation is skip this place and the hipsters well really the wanna be hipsters running the place. Update Aug 19th 2014. The owner contacted me and was very friendly and wants to work to make the food item better and it's my belief he will. Owners that care that much about their business are refreshing. Due to this I would be willing to say give this place a chance.

The beer selection here is pretty good, 16 craft brews on tap most of them local. The food was just ok, and the portions were small.

Our family met with some friends here in this small college town in Vermont. The area is nice but very crowded at lunch time, and finding parking was exceedingly confusing. Shared Poutine and that was quite good actually. Never had poutine before, but have to say I actually did like it. Wife had the half-sandwich combo with fries. Son had the Tavern burger which he really liked. Other son had the chicken pot pie, but he has been ruined forever by my wife's so he wasn't a big fan of it. I had a grilled chicken panini which was very tasty. I enjoyed it. Prices were a little high. Environment was nice, conducive to catching up with people, having great talks, etc. Service was a little slow. Overall pleased.

On the outside, you'd expect this place to serve the usual pub grub fare, you know, fried food and plenty of it. But the menu is extensive and daring with a lot of unique selections. It's the kind of menu you'll have trouble with. Everything sounds so good that its hard to choose just one item. That's why I make it a point of always coming back here whenever I am in Vermont!

Very solid beer and cider selection. The burger was very tasty

On my way to Middlebury, Vermont, my weary passenger and I decided to look up our destination on Yelp. We wanted to see if there were any restaurants that were worth holding our ferocious appetites for. Enter Two Brothers Tavern, not just because it was the only place in Middlebury open past 10 PM, but it also got rave reviews for some of its menu items. If you've never been to Vermont, let me just tell you, it's heaven. Every building in Vermont looks like it was built yesterday. Everybody is as friendly as a mall Santa Claus on his first day of the job. The fields in Vermont are filled with lavender and sunflowers, and after some research, you'll find Vermont's main export is cheer. It's almost seems too good to be true. Of course, we were there in the middle of the summer and didn't have to experience the blistering cold and inexplicably long winter. That being said, my copilot and I spent most of the entire trip back to Maryland scheming ways to move to Vermont. Before we really understood the amazingness that was Vermont, we were shocked to hear the caliber, creativity, and child-like innocence that filled Two Brother's Tavern reviews on Yelp. For example: "Beef Stroganoff hit the spot on a cold, snowy day. I wouldn't mind getting snowed in at this place." "Two Brothers was perfect for our rain soaked, starving little group. We all got salads with various forms of protein adorning them." "Super delish dinner here on a somewhat sleepy Tuesday night in late September." So I decided, in fitting with the culture of the Vermont reviewers, that I would write a similar review for Middlebury's star restaurant. I recommend that you listen to 'Belle' the first song from Beauty and the Beast while reading the rest of this review. Not only does the town in the cartoon resemble Middlebury (except for all the jealous prostitutes who talk about Belle behind her back), but it adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the review. Vermont Style Starts Now: With strained eyes and empty bellys we entered the shining village of Middlebury, Vermont. The stone paved streets are hugged by strong brick buildings that are assertively warm. It was then that we found a quaint tavern that had all that a weary traveler could every wish for. A cozy neighborhood bar attached to a handsome dining room set above a larger bar with quite the little nightlife. We decided to saddle in at the upstairs bar and ordered two local brews that wet our whistles well. We tried the Wolavers IPA and a Vermont crafted cider. Both fitted our fancy like a glove. For an appetizer, we ordered the poutine: crispy French fries slathered with house-made gravy, blanketed by tart Vermont cheddar and immaculately cooked bacon. Toot toot, next stop delishville! The poutine was heartwarming to say the least, a warm wood fire on a brisk summer night. Deciding to try the summer quinoa salad was no mistake on our part. A large bowl of peppery arugula set the stage for a heaping pile of quinoa, tomatoes, cucumbers, Vermont maple syrup and an asiago vinaigrette. For not being a huge fan of quinoa, I sure ate my words. We also adventured into ordering the lobster Mac and cheese. What many reviews described as glorious, this reviewer found to be a bit bland. I would beg to say that there was not quite enough cheese in our Mac. I do declare that the amount of lobster throughout the piping hot dish was impressive to say the least. But, I would be remiss to not mention the dishes callow disposition centered in a meal that boasted refinement and class. Two Brothers Tavern is an unpredictably gracious host. The service is invariably kind and the atmosphere is untarnished in its grace. Surely a stop that warrants going down the path less traveled, and a mainstay for the residents of the villas that surround it.

It isn't quite as good as The Lobby or Flatbread, but Two Bros is definitely the standby decent restaurant to go to if you're passing through the town. A nice variety of decent quality food and beverages is bound to satisfy everyone. Definitely better than your average American bar and grill. The food tastes fresh and original, unlike many restaurants that serve similar food across the country. As far as the bar goes, just don't go on thursday nights unless you want to immerse yourself in the Middlebury College social scene.

Good service. Decent food. It's a solid three-star restaurant. My salmon was a bit undercooked; And my daughter's salad was very sparse with steak. Pleasant atmosphere. I'm not sure there much choice in restaurants in this little town.

Best chicken pot pie I've ever had. My girlfriend got a Vermont cheddar mac and cheese which tasted just like the good stuff. Our waiter Eric was also really nice and attentive (in a good way) and Two Brothers is a real cozy way to end a day of skiing. It looks like they also get a lot of musicians to come to perform and they have an extensive bar section. A gem in Middlebury.

Really like this place. Right down town, cozy setup, bartender has a silly handlebar mustache. I dig it. The most surprising thing about this bar was how good the food was. I ordered some kind of thai-style pork burger because the bar tender told me it was delicious, and it was seriously good. I would go back there just for this item. I only wish they would carry Citizen cider, because the kind they carry is too sweet for me. I realize that I am in the minority of cider drinkers of the world so this probably matters to very few people.

They have a pretty decent shepherd's pie. I ate the whole thing. I ate the whole thing because it was delicious. That's how you know it's good!!!

  • Alex G.

Service was fast and attentive. I liked the outdoor patio and the view of the roundabout. I ordered the Tavern Burger and it was very good with sweet tomatoes and good beef. The cut of beef was kind of odd shaped, but that was the only caveat.

My family for years has loved to go to Two Brothers before and/or after Middlebury FTBL. Unfortunately, the food is just not as good as it use to be. The Old Shepards Pie was amazing we use to drive 4 hrs for the food. This year its different. Shepards pie was served in a small fancy bowl with a flower looked nice but was not as good. Chicken on panini was over cooked and they took the yummy mushroom flatbread off the menu. Waitstaff was fantastic and the beer selection is still good but unfortunately some of the menu staples are not what they use to be.

We stopped in this tavern after playing a show at Middlebury on the Green Festival. It was the only tavern open on a Monday night. Superb selection of local craft beer and most domestics. We saw some friends at the bar and decided to relocate outside on the fun deck. I are the poutine which is great for vegetarians because it is an onion based gravy. Stellar. The bartender was professional, courteous, and helpful. Good people. Good vibes. good place to watch major sporting events.

Been a half-dozen times over the years and should probably go more often. Just had a really awesome tortellini special (pesto chicken). The portions are always generous and the flavors are always perfect. Service is swift. I can't think of anything they need to improve on.

I checked out a world cup match here while in town and for the first few minutes I enjoyed the atmosphere. As the game began and the crowd grew it was clear that the bartender and bar back were under staffed. I waited over an hour for a plate of plain chicken tenders, had to wait about twenty minutes to get each beer and when I inquired about my food the bartender acted as if I had personally offended him. After the first hour I was assured that i'd get my food soon, twenty minutes after that I was assured again and twenty minutes after that I was told that they were out of chicken tenders. Aside from waiting for my food that never came, this bartender with an accent could not have been more of a prick. In reaction to me asking him to switch the channel he scowled at me and rolled his eyes. The restaurant part upstairs seemed pretty nice, shame that a lack of staffing, communication and a douchey bartender put such a damper on my first (and likely last) experience there.

Decent but not great. From Yelp, I was expecting to be able to get a pizza ( aka flatbread in these parts) but the waitress said they had "taken them off the menu"

So happy Two Bros is back on point!! Whoever is the chef now please keep him:) also the bartender with the accent is fabulous!! My only wish is that the creme brûlée was warm because its sooo delicious!

This is a great little tavern with way better food than I expected. They have a huge beer selection (I suggest getting the sampler flight...it's worth it!) and their food is more artisanal than I would've guessed. My husband had the shepherd's pie and I had the lobster mac-n-cheese...both were extremely well-made. The service on the food side is excellent but the bartender on the bar side was, quite frankly, a bit of a jerk. Still, I'm sticking with the 4 stars because I think this place is a must-visit in Middlebury, VT.

Found this place on Yelp while traveling in VT to see the foliage last week. We showed up around 5pm on a Thursday evening, so we had no trouble finding a table on the pub side, although it was getting pretty crowded by the time we left. There is also a quieter, more restaurant-like side that serves the exact same menu if you don't like the atmosphere of a pub. We were just hoping for a decent meal, and had no idea we'd be this surprised and impressed. The food was our favorite kind, simple dishes but with much love in the details. Many of the ingredients are local and everything tasted so fresh. We started with the poutine since we love it but don't find in Boston very often. The poutine was some of the best we've had outside Canada, perfectly balanced and cheesy. In fact, it was so good we ordered a second one. I had the turkey sandwich, which was just a turkey sandwich, but tasted delicious because of the garlic mayo and pickled onions. Again, details. My husband had a bbq chicken sandwich that was a special. He loved it. We finished with the Chocolate Porter Cake, which I think my husband willed into existence because it combines his two favorite things in the world. Our bill came to around $60 with drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert because we were gluttons on vacation, but you could easily get out of there for much cheaper. The waitress was friendly, and they accept credit cards. I wanted to try so many things on the menu and would be there all the time if I lived in Middlebury. It's probably better for my heart health that I don't, as much as I loved that poutine.

Delicious. High quality ingredients. Impeccably prepared. Nice atmosphere. Friendly service. Try the mushroom flatbread pizza and the quinoa summer salad. Yummy! Great value.

If you like hot wings, the spicy index is off the chart here. Order a beer or two and some bread, and you are all set. Service was slow, even when restaurant was not so busy. Be prepared to wait for a while for your waitor and food to come out.

The first time I went here, it sucked. So, I gave it a second try. It still sucked. 1) The place wasn't busy, but I still waited for like 15 minutes because sign said "Wait to be seated." Three staff members passed by 2 times each (Yes, I count these things). Okay whatever. We got seated after a while. 2) It's Taco Tuesday: bring it on. 2 tacos and 1 decent beer = ~$12. That's absurd. 3) Boyfriend's meal 3 tacos and a PBR = ~$13. Also absurd. 4) Staff was really nice after they sat us.... did forget some minor things (straws, napkins, fork for the stuff that falls out of tacos) and made a mistake on our bill. Whatever, it's no big deal, but worth noting. 5)The tacos were not good, but definitely edible. 6) I order the same meal every Taco Tuesday no matter which city I'm in. Usually, my meal would costs ~$8. I won't return unless it's for a drink. But hey, it's up to you.

Not your average pub, Two Brothers has some interesting offerings, including their very-reasonably priced tapas menu. Everything was pretty good, but I wasn't really wowed by it. Dining room was neat and simple, and it was completely separated from the crowded bar. And I always appreciate a restaurant that supports local farmers by offering Vermont-raised meats and veggies and locally made cheeses and beverages. Two Brothers list their supplying farm right inside their menu for localvores to see. I might have given Two Brothers 4 stars if it were not for the fly in the glass of cider (I know these things can still happen despite your best efforts, but it is not a good way to start a meal), and they did not actually have a few of the cider drinks we ordered... Which was weird because the cider was made in the same town! Also, the bathrooms were perpetually occupied, even though the dining room only had two parties (including ours), and the bar was just over half full. The Caesar salad ($6.99) was okay -- the greens were fresh, and it was not over dressed, and they did have anchovies, which I always get when I can. We also had the soup of the day as a starter -- Moraccan-Spiced Tomato soup ($3.99/4.99), which was the addictive highlight of the meal for me. It was creamy and pretty spicy -- and that's coming from a Korean! The soft chickpeas made it more substantial and added a nice nuttiness to balance the spice. I could have consumed a vat of this then asked for more. My friends said they liked their smoked turkey sandwich, but I had to ask them about it -- they were not gushing over it or anything. (Also, the very friendly couple at the next table were loving their quiches, $7.99, and it sounded like they come here often for it.) My husband and I ordered a tapas plate for lunch. Individually, they are $1.50, but $4.25 for any three -- now, that's a deal! The quinoa salad (not your average pub fare!) was my favorite -- herby, light, and sweet with dried cranberries and toasted nuts (also offered as a full salad for $9.99). The savory cornbread was nice and corny, had a decent texture, but didn't really meet my high, ineffable standards for good cornbread. (I may be Korean, but I was also raised in the Deep South...) The roasted garlic meatball was okay -- good texture, not to heavy -- but it could've been more garlicky. It didn't make me hanker for more, and the pomodoro sauce was a wee bit too sweet for me. The offer several events, musical and otherwise, and I can see how that can add a lot to the nightlife of quaint little Middlebury. It made for a nice Sunday lunch on a beautiful autumn day, but given the high reviews it has received, I expected more. Maybe I'll try the shepherd's pie, next time. If there is a next time.

My daughter and I stopped here for lunch on our way home from Burlington. It has a nice atmosphere and we liked that they use local ingredients whenever they can. We were seated quickly and waited on promptly. We were not advised of any specials, though our waitress listed some for a later table. Our food came fairly quickly. The cheddar ale soup my daughter ordered was too salty to eat and was replaced with the clam chowder, which my daughter enjoyed along with her garden green salad. I ordered the fish & chips, which came with cole slaw. I found the slaw to be quite bland (daughter agreed) and the fish and chips were so soggy, I ended up just pulling the fish out of the breading and leaving the fries. Overall a disappointing entree for $15. No refills on drinks were offered and no dessert was mentioned. On the positive side, the beer was cold. I might come back for a drink, but not the food.

Had the Ruben on pretzel roll and it was delicious. Andy the bartender was very pleasant and attentive. Nice beer selection although it would be nice if they had more Vermont microbrews on tap such as the local one Drop In Brewery, Fiddlehead or reaching way out Hill Farmstead

Moving from out of state, we stopped at Two Brothers on the way from the airport to the new house. It was exactly what we needed! Excellent beer selection and food to die for. (Visualize the scene from When Harry Met Sally: we weren't quite there, but the group that was seated next to us did ask for what we were having.) We had our toddler with us and the staff was exceptional about bringing to go boxes well before we might be done in case we had to make a hasty exit. Food was so good that we ended up not needing the boxes. We'll be back for sure!

Two Brothers, how I have such fond memories of thee. As a restaurant, this is surprisingly one of the best places in Middlebury. First, it's much cheaper than other restaurants in the town. And while they only have tavern fare, they are all done pretty well. I've had nearly all the appetizers and am a big fan of the nachos. Not too bad, if you're judging by Vermont standards. Among entrees, I really like the taco salad and the pulled pork burger. It's really a good value if you want to get your fill. Now for the bar section, this is where Two Brothers also excels. They have a lot of great local brews in the upstairs section (get the Wachusett Blueberry Ale if available, it actually comes with 2 blueberries!). They also make amazing cocktails on the bottom floor if you came down to party.

  • Crysteaux S.

More like 3.5 stars. Service is inconsistent. Menu descriptions sound fair but dishes turn out unexceptional and lacking a certain kick. I haven't tasted any dishes that cost more than $12, so this review probably doesn't represent the restaurant in entirety. I'm not too sure how to feel about this place, as it's neither formal nor casual, while it seems to demonstrate a more formal facade. You'll have more fun with the menu at 51 Main, even though the food is not that much better. All in all, the average person will enjoy Two Bros, but foodies don't belong here, especially if they're unwilling to shell out a Jefferson and then some (drinking). Don't be afraid to come if you anticipate socialising rather than concentrating on the grub!

Food - We ordered 4 dishes. 3 were awesome - cheddar & ale soup, pretzel, and poutine. Wow on all three. Just wow. Locally sourced cheese, perfectly cooked pretzel. Pub food at its best. 4th dish was the Hawaiian BBQ wings. The wings were cooked right but the sauce had a funky aftertaste neither of us could identify. Wine - good selection. Solid server knowledge on local wines. Enjoyed one local wine so much, I went to the winery the next day. Fairly priced. Beer - eh selection. For a gastro pub called a tavern, in the heart of the east coast craft beer mecca, I expected, perhaps niavely, a better selection. Service - fast and efficient without rushing you. Summary - with better wings and a better beer selection, 2 super important things in a gastropub, this would have been a 5. Everything else was perfect. Conclusion - I recommend and would return!

I met up with an old friend for lunch yesterday. I had the Turkey Sandwich and she had the Thai Chili Stir Fry. They were delicious and nicely presented. My wine (pinot grigio) portion was generous (filled to the top!) and refreshing. The wait staff was friendly and eager to advise us on various menu items. We ate and visited for about two hours and never felt rushed to leave. In fact, our water carafe was refilled at one point. Certainly not a significant complaint, but we were seated in the window area and felt a little cramped because it was full of other diners as well - one, in particular who carried on a 10 (+-) minute conversation on her phone. I thought that was funny, because the same thing happened when I was there the time before! Perhaps patrons can be encouraged to shut their phones off or use them in the bar area or entrance way. Or perhaps, I need to get with the times! I'll be back, for sure...

I really had hoped for much more in the way of both service and food. Our server, I think her name was Anne was atrocious. The other staff were friendly and cheerful, but our server was a sourpuss. No smiles, no chatter, just a scowl and short curt answers to our questions. She mostly ignored us, which I guess was better than the alternative. The food was average at best. The mac and cheese with lobster sounds divine. The lobster was decent but I'm surprised how little cheese was in the mac and cheese considering this is Vermont. I won't be returning to Two Brothers after this disappointing experience.

I worked as an instructor at Middlebury Language Schools this summer. I'm not a big outdoors or small town kind of guy, so if it hadn't been for Two Brothers I think I would have gone crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if I spent half my salary at this place. This is a wonderful bar with fantastic food. I really loved the poutine and the chicken wings, and I think that their calamari sauce is the best that I've ever had. The only thing that wasn't fantastic was the burger, but it also wasn't bad. The service was consistently excellent, especially at the bar. Most of all, the people who worked there were nice, friendly, and welcoming. I will have fond memories of many, many hours spent at this place. I hope everyone there is well.

Local crowd is obnoxious. Food is mediocre at best and has made me sick. Service is terrible. Bartenders downstairs are inattentive and dickish. There always seems to be a fight on the street when the bar closes. This place is garbo.

Great little spot. Perfect place to grab a quick dinner. Came here with two travel companions on our way to Stowe. It was the only place we could find that wasn't fast food. Good selection of local and imported beers on tap. Good choice of fare with local ingredients made fresh. Very welcoming and clean decor.

Came for a beer with my GF after one of the World Cup games. We both had a burger with fries. The quality of the beef was very good however I ordered mine med/rare and she medium. They were both well done. I subbed my reg fries for sweet potato fries($1.5 extra), and out came a pitiful portion of over cooked fries. Seems like a nice place in a great location, I think they could use some healthy competition in this small town to keep them on their toes.

My wife and I came in on a crowded Friday night at 7:00pm and snagged the last 2 seats around a bar-height area at the front of the restaurant, but furthest away from the server's station. The host explained that menus were all being used and that he would bring some as soon as possible. No problem! It's busy! 15 minutes later, menus arrived; we quickly decided on two french onion soups, a pulled pork sandwich with fries and a quinoa salad. 10 minutes later our waiter returned to take our order. No problem! It's busy! After 25 minutes, our soup arrives, which we gobble down after being told our entrees would be out in "a minute." Unfortunately, "a minute" really means 25 minutes. A runner delivered our food; I discovered that my pulled pork sandwich is missing both cabot cheddar and coleslaw (as indicated on the menu on their website), so I decide to flag down our waiter who is waiting on a couple behind us. I miss him, and headed over to the waiter's station to explain what the problem was, wanting to get a jump on the waiting period that would surely come after fixing my order. The waiter was very apologetic and got my corrected item back out to me within five minutes. My wife and I were very disappointed at this point - as busy as the place was, there's no excuse for waiting 75 minutes after arrival for an entree. The host came over while we were eating and comped my pulled pork sandwich, which immediately raised my rating of this restaurant from a 1 to a 3. The restaurant clearly recognized that something was wrong with our meal and made an attempt to correct it. We ended up waiting another 20 minutes to get check at which point I just handed my card over. We left the restaurant at 8:55pm. Normally I would not be upset at slow service during a very busy night, but we had the pleasure of watching two seats directly behind while we waited for our food. 10 minutes after we arrived a couple sat down and were handed menus promptly, they ordered, received entrees, and paid before we have received our entrees. That couple left to be replaced by another couple who received menus promptly, ordered and received their entrees and paid while we were waiting for our check. It seems that the quality of service is not normally so poor, but satisfied customers generally don't write reviews. This would be a 1 star review if not for the quality of our food and the fact that they recognized there was a problem with our service and comped one of our meals. Not in Vermont very often, but I would not return to this location unless it was 1/3 as busy.

A fantastic restaurant in a beautiful town. The spicy buffalo wings are the best I've ever had. The vegetarian panini is also amazing. I come to Vermont every summer and Two Brothers Tavern is my favorite restaurant. The ambiance? Wonderful. Go and enjoy the delicious locally sourced food.

As an update: We tried Two Brothers again. Wow. Our experience was nothing like our first. Management has really made an effort to reach out to unhappy customers and create a memorable experience if the first one was sub par. Thanks, Two Brothers. You rock.

Good, not great. Food was pretty good. Spotty service. Bartender clearly has no idea how to pour a Guinness or other beers. Fun atmosphere.

Two Brothers get at least 3 stars for being the only place open and cheerful looking in Middlebury at 3 pm over Labor Day Weekend. The last star is for the friendly service and the excellent salads we all enjoyed; the perfect thing before a longish drive back to upstate New York. Fresh ingredients, well dressed, in sufficient quantity. Excellent.

A-MAZ-ING! You walk into this quaint little place, and you think "Oh no, I can't afford this place". But you can! Bring a date here and make them think you're rich! It's the cutest place with decorative lights and candles everywhere giving it a romantic vibe. Very small but no wait without a reservation. Very friendly staff and delicious can't-stop-eating-you-might-explode food all for CHEAP! I had the spicy tortellini and I wish I lived here so I can eat it all the time. So good, go there - like now. Your mouth will thank me later.

I was there with a friend for lunch on 10/20/13 while on vacation. We were seated quickly, the staff was friendly & attentive. While the Reuben was O.K., the Chicken Panini Caesar Salad was fabulous.I would definitely recommend this place to tourists & locals alike.

Had the French onion soup and Mac and cheese with lobster delicious. Always a good meal here.

Poutine was the highlight of the meal. Nice, woody interior. Service was the bare minimum, rushed, but adequate. Lobster mac & cheese had tons of lobster. Nachos had blobs of stuff so you had to kind of mix it as you ate. Very reasonable. Like the emphasis on local foods.

I tried it again. This time I ordered the Margharita flatbread pizza. It was OK but nothing special. The tomatoes had a good flavor, especially for November, the cheese was barely melted, and the pesto was very oily. The service was good, whenI ordered a cup of tea, I got a good variety of teabags to choose from, not just the basic Lipton.

Menu was more limited then I expected, but the caesar salad was good. Served with anchovies upon request, which was a nice change.

The food was so good that we ate here 2 days in a row. My son had the shepards pie both times. I loved the pulled pork on a pretzel roll and the mashed potatoes! We are looking forward to our next visit.

We have eaten here no less than a dozen times and have been consistently disappointed by the food (soggy or overcooked or just plain bad) and the price tag at the end (way too high for the quality if food!) Has a reputation around town for decent music downstairs but dirty tap lines at the bar :( would love to give them another chance if they could clean up their act a bit...

By happenstance, my friend and I had lunch here today while traveling through town. What a fortuitous find!! We loved everything we had. Friend had the soup of the day (chicken) and the warm pretzel sticks. I had the steak salad and a side of mashed potatoes. The potatoes were AMAZING! Certainly a candidate for best mashed potatoes I've ever had The pretzel sticks also deserve extra mention. They are essentially a warm soft pretzel in stick form, served with honey mustard. I want more just thinking about them! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. If I had any slight complaint it would be that it took quite awhile to for someone to notice that we were finished and needed a check. Small potatoes. No sweat. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I hope I'm in that neck of the woods again!

Yer basic kinda upscale upscale-college-town bar. We were there during a shift change on one of our first visits, and there were pretty girls nearby; the staff seemed to prioritize their attention accordingly that day, which wasn't very cool. Things improved, though! The beer list is stellar, though my Martini was shoddily assembled the first time. It's an interesting food menu, too. Too bad it didn't really deliver that day. [What is it with bar poutine in Vermont, that they feel the need to tart it up? Just get it right, and if you're Martin Picard THEN you can mess with it.] Special note must be given to their commitment to local ingredients on the menu and even at the bar. (Woodchuck Cider! Lots of Vermont beers!) Recently we've been going with a group after rehearsals and performances, and TBT has proven to be a great place to go and hang with a bunch of people. They do their best to make sure everybody gets what they need, and never lose their cool about it. It's really important to have a place like this, and Two Brothers Tavern fits the niche really well.

I totally think this place is oretty fitting for most. It's got the bar on one side, the restaurant that seats both inside & out. Good atmosphere & a menu that has some vegetarian options as well. The portions are not big so getting an appetizer would make sense.

I love Two Brothers. Of all the restaurants in Middlebury, they have the best food (and best french fries!) of anywhere, and for some of the lowest prices. There's great variety-----everything from a casual soup/salad combo to broiled salmon and other classy dishes-----and the staff is invariably kind, thoughtful, friendly, courteous, and very helpful. Considering how delicious the food is, the pricing is also fantastic: very affordable. In short: this is THE PLACE to be in Middlebury for casual or fine dining!

My husband and I got away from the kids for a night while on vacation and had our (two months late) anniversary dinner. I loved having a table next to the window to watch the people and cars go by. Our food was so good, I ate slower to savor my Santa Fe tortellini. DH thought his bacon wrapped pork was cooked perfectly, and we both couldn't get enough of the poutine. The beer flight was a great deal and I can't wait to see what other selections they have next time.

Had lunch there and it was really good. We had some appetizers - fondue, meatballs and nachos. All were good. My girls had the lobster mac and cheese and it was awesome. I had a meatloaf burger and it was really good. I liked how they seperated the vermont beers from the other domestic "imported" beer.

Came in around 2pm when the lunch rush was leaving and the waiters seemed more interested in cleaning tables than taking our order even though we were one of only two tables still in the place and no one was waiting to be seated. We were however comped a free appetizer for our wait. The soda was flat and the food was decent, nothing too fancy. Good place if you would like a slower paced lunch with friends.

Service was good but I ordered meatloaf it was cold and girlfriend ordered lobster Mac and cheese that was also cold. We sent it back hers came back hot and mine was barely warm. Lobster was tough and meatloaf was tasteless.

Made a special trip today to check out the Woodchuck Cider Festival - extremely satisfied with my entire experience. We sat outside (the inside seats were full/reserved), which was a tad chilly toward the end of dinner, but those in our party all had our jackets, and made do with the situation. The food was well-priced, and perfectly timed. One of my friends who arrived early ordered a plate of vegetarian nachos, which sated us all until the bread course - maybe have larger and fewer pieces, or less butter (it was open up the packet and use half, or end up with butter with a side of bread.). One thing that was a little unsettling was toward the end of the night - we were waiting a significant long time for our check / offer for dessert and coffee - we found out that our server had simply vanished! I will commend the other staff there for seamlessly stepping in and not really making a big deal of the other situation - we had just assumed that it was the end of one person's shift, it was only after we asked we found out the actual reason for the delay. I am just disappointed that Middlebury is in the part of Vermont that isn't that easy to get to from where I am (central VT). I suppose that'll just make each trip I take there (and return to this place) that much better. Can't wait until my return!

Very crappy. I ordered the portobello burger and was very disappointed. I was given a tiny mushroom on a super thick, bulky bun. After I stripped past the wall of bread and got to the fillings of the sandwich I was totally grossed out. It had terribly flavor. On top of that half of my french fries were not cooked. Not just soggy or a little cold - they were still very starchy. My boyfriend ordered the Philly cheese steak and it was too salty and slimy. We went down stairs to the lounge and experienced horrible entertainment. Who knows how the musicians really were -the speakers were turned up so high you that couldn't make out what they were singing.

This is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. Nightlife in Middlebury does not get any better than Two Brothers -- and not only because it's essentially the only bar in town. Beal, one of the eponymous sibling owners, can always be found behind the bar and knows most of his patrons by name. In fact, even though I'm only around over the holidays, he'll start pouring my favorite beer (Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter ftw) when I walk in the door. It doesn't get any better than that. The relatively recent addition of the basement-level section not only doubles the capacity of the place but provides a different sort of atmosphere from the upstairs bar -- as close to a metropolitan lounge as you're going to find in the entire state (but still with an extremely laid back vibe). Local live music is featured regularly as well. Not only is the bar experience outstanding, but the food (both lunch and dinner) is exceptional. On top of that, this is a great place to watch the Sox/Celtics/Patriots, either upstairs or down. And you can't beat the camaraderie of the regulars who frequent Two Bros after work.

Two Brothers is a Middlebury standard. Just hearty food in big portions in a nice setting. Just linger for awhile with a date and it's great. The bar next door can be a bit distracting but that too has its audience -- big screen TV, people every night of the week. I had a steak salad the last time I was there and it was perfectly cooked, prepared. Light and fresh.

Great food and a MEAN beer selection. I had a Wolaver's Coffee Porter in a frosted mug that melted my mind. The place looks like it's withstood the test of time, and it's packed with locals. The ceiling is spattered with graffitti'd up dollar bills, probably from travelers and folks making memories. Beef Stroganoff hit the spot on a cold, snowy day. I wouldn't mind getting snowed in at this place.

Love Two Bros! My wife and I go here as often as possible. We love the food, the service is always excellent (we challenge them with our 15 month old daughter), and the atmosphere is the best in town. Two Bros is a great balance of very high quality food, but served in a comfortable and relaxed environment, and at a reasonable price. I recommend the Santa Fe Tortellini with Chicken, and a beer from there large selection on tap. I also love the mac-n-cheese and shepard's pie to help keep me warm through the winter...

Noticed a sign on the wall behind the bar. Stated that employees must pay the tab if a patron walks out without paying. I've never walked out without paying a tab but I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to make an employee pay the tab. I was just there for one drink but I read the sign and thought that was a pretty bad way to treat employees and I question the legality of it.

Two Bro's is a solid place to get lunch, dinner, or just a drink. The food is consistent and they offer some really tasty dishes, such as the santa fe tortellini. Great for lunch or dinner! And it's not too expensive either for a casual night out.

We went at about 7:30 on a Monday night and we didn't have to wait for seating. Service was similarly prompt and the food was great. If you decide to go to Two Brothers you should be prepared to eat, meanwhile I felt the prices were very reasonable.

Passed through Two Brothers half a dozen times over the years, always to discover a new local brew, tastey food, and all kinds of folks enjoying the company. Awesome time at the Brewers fest and looking forward to checking out one of their live acts in the lounge next time we're in the Middlebury area.

My husband and I are still talking about the Shepherd's Pie we had here weeks ago. It was amazing! Mashed potatoes with some potato chunks, corn and lightly seasoned ground beef covered with Cabot cheddar. Yummm! Warm and cozy restaurant with deliciously un-fussy food. I just wish they had their creamy tomato basil soup every day.

we got caught in a ferocious summer storm, which downed several power lines. with the roads closed, the only direction we could go in our quest for food was Middlebury. Two Brothers was perfect for our rainsoaked, starving little group. we all got salads with various forms of protein adorning them. they have a good beer selection and traditional sports bar decor, complete with loud drunk Red Sox fans. DO NOT skip the chocolate ganache cake - its made with a hint of beer which keeps it from being too sweet. yum.
