What a great place to stay near Middlebury. A renovated old farm house that still keeps the charm of the turn of the century, but has modern conveniences with each room being very private and equipped with its own bathroom. The hosts, Bob and Juliet are quite welcoming, very nice, great to talk to, and make you feel right at home. There is always a warm roaring fire in the fireplace in the evening and a delicious breakfast every morning.

Truly wonderful Inn. The sauna is very nice and relaxing and our room had a 2 person jacuzzi! Great stop on any New England road trip... And definitely get the pancakes for breakfast- so good. Would come back in a heartbeat.
Accommodations are top notch, staff is friendly and extremely helpful and the house and grounds are lovely. Add walking proximity to middlebury village and a delicious complimentary full breakfast and you cannot beat the Swift House Inn. We will be back!
Beautiful place with very nice and hospitable staff. The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were always clean. I will not think twice to stay here again when visiting Middlebury again.

Was visiting Middlebury to get in some cycling and stopped in here as we were leaving. What an amazing place! Hands down the best bagels I've ever had in New England! Ordered a breakfast sandwich - just amazing. The service was also wonderful - over the top kind. Quaint atmosphere as well, not the typical New York City bagel shop which is more reminiscent of the Wall Street trading floor than a place to buy food. Highly recommended. Will definitely be returning the next time I'm in town.
I grew up in Middlebury, eating here regularly. I now live in Burlington, where food options are more plentiful and varied, however I still have yet to find a meat, egg and cheese bagel sandwich that measures up to the Bagelegger. Big fluffy fresh bagels, generous slathers of house-made cream cheese, classic large omelettes and fast friendly service make this the go-to casual breakfast spot in Middlebury.
The Middleberry Bagel is a staple in this town. Go there early to avoid the lines especially on a weekend or else you will be hanging out behind hung over college people and little kids going to T-ball practice. The bagels are made daily and delicious, the bagel sandwiches are exceptional, the breakfast sandwich aptly armed, Bagelegger, is the staple. But pancakes and standard breakfast fare also do the trick. Donuts are the best in town and make Dunkins pale in comparison.

After a day of kayaking in Middlebury, we wanted a place that seemed casual enough for our quick change, but suited to our 9th anniversary. We sat on the porch overlooking the terrace to avoid the mosquitoes at dusk, but had the peaceful view of the lawn and gardens of the inn. The service was attentive and well-informed. Other than a small and profusely atoned bobble with the timing of our courses, everything was delicious, perfectly presented and delivered with grace. I had the vegetable stack for my main because it sounded--and was--so luscious and summery. My husband had the blueberry glazed duck. We stumbled upon Jessica's and I wish we had found it sooner.
This restaurant was delicious. The service was friendly and the food fine. I love the farm to table menu! We had a shaved Brussels sprouts salad that was out of this world. My daughter had the salmon and I had a grass fed burger. We shared duck fat fries...because when you see duck far fries you can't pass it up! And the dessert was a special sour cherry crumble with in house made salted caramel ice cream. Going back to this same area in 4 weeks and will eat here again!!
Two years ago we ate here and had the most wonderful experience, both the food and the terrific sommelier were top notch. This review, however, is about the bar experience. Stopped in with some friends for an after dinner drink and ended up having the loveliest evening chatted with the world class bartender. Perfect cocktails and great conversation. Hard to beat. We will be going back for dinner soon.

If you could sit outside on a beautiful day, it's a relaxing dining experience with good view and soothing sound of the creek. Setting is perfect, but food is mediocre and dinner is overpriced.
Loved this place - went for Lunch and Dinner . . . on the same day. We stopped here for a quick lunch and had a fast soup and sandwich that were both delicious. We liked it so much we made reservations for dinner. Dinner was very good with a very nice menu. Prices were very good and they had 4 local brews on tap along with a nice wine list. The only complaint that we had was that as most of the tables were outside, it was chilly and very "buggy". A screened in deck and heaters would have been welcome. We sat inside so this really wasn't an issue. The highlight was when my 10 year old daughter asked the waitress if the creme brulee already has the sugar burned onto it. The chef then came out and carmelized the sugar right in front of her and explained what he was doing. All in all, the food alone was a memorable experience but we thoroughly appreciated this extra little step. We will definitely be back next year when we stay in Vt. Thanks, Chef Todd!
Visited Middlebury with my son on a tour of colleges this past week. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the price was right for what we got, and it was as good as home cooking for us. We are very picky eaters and love to be able to get local, organic foods when we are travelling to satisfy our needs. The service was swift, the breakfast was tasty and the herbs and spices used created a culinary experience worthy of the visit. Thanks!

Ramunto’s Silician Pizza

Reviews:
Best Pizza in Town! Ramunto's has great Sicilian pizza, I realize not everybody likes pizza this way but if you do, you won't be disappointed. We order 5 pizza's for a party of ours awhile back and I happened to be speaking to the manager trying to figure out how much food to get. We has very helpful and ended up giving us the 5th pizza on the house. For the few people that visit Middlebury and want Sicilian pizza, don't hesitate. And for those that already live in Middlebury who like pizza and have never been; you don't get out enough!
THE place for pizza in Middlebury--although it's take out only. The staff is really into what they do and they have some unique combos including beet, caramelized onion and goat cheese. Brilliant--but seasonal. I like the thin crust but they make Sicilian. Price is right too. Wish they had ice for the soda, though. I wish I lived closer.
I showed up at closing time, or perhaps a few minutes later, and they were really nice. They gave me a bunch of pizza that was left and even warmed it up since we were in a hotel. I really enjoyed the buffalo chicken and the Thai (spicy!) pizza. I still have a lot of slices left so I'll probably share them with the the hotel staff!

Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op

1 Washington Street,Suite 1
Middlebury, 05753
Reviews:
I love my co-op! They have 80-90% of what I need on my weekly shopping list, including the best-quality fresh produce in town (other than the farmer's market at the height of the season, of course). Fantastic cheese selection -- including lots and lots of Vermont cheeses of all sorts -- and an impressive and well-curated beer section (you will not find Bud or Coors here). I do agree with a previous reviewer's comment regarding the meat case being weak -- it's definitely a weak point, and I hope one that will finally get some love once they execute on the expansion plans they've been talking about. Would love to see a reliable selection of local and organic meats here.
After shopping here for a few months, I can safely say that this co-op definitely could use some improvements. It's a good little shop, but not great as I initially thought after my first visit. The produce section is good but the meat case is pretty weak. Frequently I find certain items that seem permanently out of stock. I always see the hole in the display where raw coconut water or other products should be, but apparently miss these products every week. Also I think it would be nice if cashiers bagged the groceries like every other store I frequent including other co-ops/natural food stores. Just some helpful tips.
i enjoy shopping here but i really love their deli and prepared food section. the sandwiches and smoothies are really good and there are a lot of housemade cold salads (curry chicken and sesame noodles are my favorite) plus a few entrees and desserts. the salad bar is really fresh and well stocked and they always have hot soup.

Two Brothers Tavern

The last time I was in Midd for any length of time, I was an undergrad (class of '98) at the college and this place used to be called Angela's. Well that, along with the bewildering traffic circle and bridge suddenly placed outside, has changed a great deal. Returned to the town with a fellow college alumn (class of '99) last weekend and just had to check out this "new" tavern. I gotta say, we were pleasantly surprised. This was the most delightful dining experience we had the entire weekend! It was a Saturday night, but the place was not overly crowded for dinner. It sounded like the live music venue downstairs was bumping, but upstairs in the dining area things were nice and civilized. We were seated right away without need for reservations, and our hostess and waitress were both friendly and helpful. Of course, no one cares about all that! So how was the food? In short: amazing! My steak was prepared exactly as I specified, and was quite tasty to boot! My date's shepherd's pie was delish as well, and reminded us of our undergrad days eating the same in Proctor Hall. I'm just sad we weren't staying in town longer, as I would've definitely returned at least once more--especially to sit at the bar for a round or two. Oh, and the beer selection on tap is great! Lots of local options to choose from, which I love. Awesome addition to the Midd dining scene!
One of my favorite places on earth. I went to Middlebury College and this place is known as "the bar" for all of its affiliates. Too many memories here! Reasons why this place is awesome: -Awesome, awesome staff. Beal, you're my favorite! -Shot skis -dollar marks on the ceiling -expansive menu (and delicious!) -lots of beer -dart board If you're in the area and you're looking for the quintessential Middlebury experience, go here.
After many driving without stopping here, I finally decided to swing in for lunch! Open the first door and your immediately given 2 options: pub or dining. We chose pub, which included the bar and a ceiling peppered with decorated one dollar bills. The staff greeted us with a smile and allowed us to choose a table. Our waitress promptly brought us water and offered us beverages. I went with the new Woodchuck Gumption, delicious! I had to know how to get a dollar bill on the ceiling, so I asked :) The waitress explained, then offered colored markers if needed. (I'll leave the 'how' for you to ask while there) The menu is typical pub with a twist. Not overwhelming - which we liked. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with garlic mashed potatoes & cheddar ale soup and my fiancé ordered the Philly with fries & corn chowder. The soups came out within mins. Cheddar Ale spot on soooo yummy! Wish I could have saved some to dip my sandwich! Food took average time, my fiancé and I decided to go halfsies with our sandwiches. The pulled pork was typical. Pretzel bun, moist pork w a kick. Mashed potatoes were so dense I ended up leaving them alone. The philly was perfection, American cheese melted to a liquid state smothered over grilled peppers/onions and shaved beef wrapped in a crispy sub. Oh me oh my! Insane! I highly recommend the philly if you haven't had it!! All around experience, it was average. Glad I finally tried them out!

Carol’s Hungry Mind Cafe

Reviews:
This place is quaint, if not cheap. Tons of workspace for students seeking somewhere to go off-campus, and they make a good coffee, too. I had a sandwich here; I don't typically enjoy paninis (they're almost invariably too dry and crumbly), but I was pleasantly surprised by how things turned out here.
My mom and I sat down at this cafe to take a break and take in the city and it was when K was going through the rough patch of not packing enough clothes for even a week at college. It's been a really long week but coming here to buy a drink and sit down to unravel has been really good for me. I ordered a Jasmine iced tea which they said upfront would require a little bit of time to prepare. And like they said, it took several minutes of waiting until my drink came out. The jasmine iced tea was fine, it tasted like a Jasmine iced tea. I feel like the portion was small compared to prove but that's how it usually is with these coffee and tea houses. It was nice that there's a water cooler full of iced water available for free, which I used to fill the cup after I drank up all the tea. Art decorates the walls of the cafe, and it all makes the place feel really organic. I love it. I'm sure I'll take advantage of this space. The locals are all great, the staff is so friendly. It's just a nice place to get away to.
Not sure why Carol's doesn't have a higher rating. Huge space with indoor & outdoor seating. Lots of coffee, tea, espresso & beverage options to cater to all types! Also hash sugary baked options and protein snacks to boot! First time in, I was greeted by a lovely smile. Clearly overwhelmed by the menu I was directly asked: caffeine or no caffeine? Caffeine. Coffee or tea? Coffee. Iced or hot? Iced. And was immediately recommended the 'Sap Sucker' and explained: it's 1 oz of maple syrup, 1 oz oz 1/2 & 1/2 and coffee poured over ice AND shaken! I jumped on it... Who wouldn't? Price point was around $4.. Well worth it! The beverage was spot on. The perfect balance of sweetness, coffee and cream. I will be stopping back here next time I am in Middlebury!

Stopped here for breakfast on a visit to Middlebury. Service was quick and friendly (unlike some other places in Mid), food was good and portions plentiful. A heat start to the morning! I had the oatmeal with fruit and my wife the poached eggs. We were satisfied with the food and the service. All around a great spot. Definitely recommend!
A family favorite for years. For generations, really. If you only drive by this place, you owe it to yourself to stop in and sit at the counter or in a booth to check out the vast menu. So many options: dinners, blue plate specials, sandwiches, breakfasts...and a colossal array of desserts. The tollhouse pie, heated up, is not to be missed. If, like me, you only get to this part of world every few years, you may note the building getting bigger and bigger. Why? They grow to meet the need of increased customers. With made from scratch meals, professional staff, and a selection of to-go items including baked goods and maple syrup, I wish every town had a Rosie's. But then, Rosie's wouldn't be special if there were a million of them. Get out of the rut of chain dining (other than A&W up the road, of course), and give Rosie's a try. The thing I hate...I have to drive over 700 miles to get here.
Passing thru the area on the way to a hike and this place was recommend to me. Rosie's is a perfect diner stop for breakfast/ lunch. Old school charming feel. We ordered two chicken sandwiches. The grilled and fried. Both good but I suggest the grilled because you get a bigger portion. Nice staff, would come again!
