Whether it's cozying up by the fireplace in the winter or soaking up the sun on the deck in the summer, The Stone Hearth Inn is amazing! I've only been with my husband and the atmosphere is so relaxing and romantic. The food is delicious and there are always new things to try! I am vegetarian and my husband is not but we both always find something we love. To top it off the staff are so incredibly friendly, you really couldn't ask for more!!

They make good steak, good rolls. Everything is done perfectly! Mondays are Thai nights. I had their brownie with ice cream on top, and its delicious. I suggest to call for reservations first.

Was in the area and stopped in for dinner. Ordered wine, PEI mussels Portuguese style with chorizo sausage, Blue wings & daily tart (bacon, squash & onion), all appetizers. Mussels & wings arrived at the same time - wish they didn't, had to eat fast before everything got cold. Mussels - good size bowl, well prepped, not over cooked, moist & juicy & the sauce was terrific, would like a little more spice. Although the waitress brought more bread to sop up the sauce. Wings, OK, not too crispy or spicy, otherwise the flavor was fine. Tart had to take home. I guess my eyes were bigger then my stomach. Oh, the tart was delish for lunch. Did I forget to mention they have about 13 beers on tapp yes I'll be back

We had outstanding service with Amanda as our waitress. The food was excellent and the atmosphere definitely had a vibe of tons of locals make this their "go to" place. When we are back in that area this is a must go place for us.

I have been here a couple of times and the food is fabulous! We always seem to go around the holidays and its never unbearably crowded. Staff are very nice and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area!

Drove past the Inn on the way to where we were logding and made a decision to stop back another night because the parking lot was packed. We came on a Saturday night around 8 and the main dining room was packed with Apres ski families. And by families I mean about 25 kids of various ages going wild while parents enjoyed the libations and wonderful food. We came only for drinks and to enjoy the atmosphere. Pool table, basketball shoot out, and air hockey in the dining room made this a great place for young and old to hang out. A fire place also held sway in the room to hang out and enjoy the ambiance if you could wrestle a kid off of one of the couches. (I wasn't willing to try it) Beer selections were solid and the nightly specials made us very upset we had already eaten. Certainly a place to set up shop and hang out. I would guess not every night is family night but a place to check out next time we are heading through.

We drove by this place a few times in our recent trip to Chester and assumed it was just an Inn or a fine dining restaurant, but we were pleasantly surprised at how wrong we were. This place is warm and inviting, a great place to go with the kids or a group of friends. The wings were amazing!! We went back several times just for wings and beer. The burgers are also awesome, especially the fresh buns they are served on. There is a nice fireplace inside with plenty of tvs to watch the game. I highly recommend the blue wings, try them with the homemade ranch and blue cheese sauce.

I enjoyed today as a guest at a surprise Birthday Party and found the food and service to be fantastic. Their staff was very attentive, and remembered names and drink preferences for a group on its feet and constantly moving about. Impressive! Thank you, Mindy, Francy and Sheldon (owner) and his niece, Katy. We were in the bar area and I enjoyed the decor and their fantastic collection of draft beer tap handles, and bumper stickers above. We had a wonderful, tasty buffet with great starter items which I enjoyed. I wish I lived closer.

We have stayed overnight here with our dogs, you can snowmobile right out the back, and Sheldon (Sheldon and his wife Francy are the owners) reserved a table for us (during a very busy snowmobile season with every table taken except for our table with our little reserved sign) - that night at dinner was the first time I've ever had risotto. It was shrimp risotto and now nothing - anywhere - can even come close! We have had dinner while in town, now the Stone Hearth made my 50th birthday the best day ever! No reservation- middle of the afternoon and raining and cold, 10 of us headed to the Stone Hearth for a late lunch. Francy and Sheldon are such welcoming hosts, they stayed open for us. The kids were occupied and were all over the couple's golden retrievers, they played pool, watched the games, and we all dined on some pretty amazing food, warmed ourselves by the fire, it is so quaint and inviting. We have also had the pleasure on my husband's birthday of having Mindy as our server, she is terrific - so pleasant and can handle many tables at once with the greatest of ease. The food-oh the food! It is amazing, from tender scallops, chicken alfredo to the appetizers of tender cooked brusell sprouts, the goat cheese (which my son steals all of them), and onion rings. Their wings are amazing too. Do not skip this place! If there are no cars out in the lot or a hundred snowmobiles out front. Come in, be welcomed, wait for a table or sit at the bar and be treated to the Vermont experience!

not very good. There were little kids running around the whole time while the parents and staff did nothing to stop them or quiet them down. I was almost hit by a stray air hockey puck. We had a reservation for around 20 and got stuck in 2 little tables when there was a huge long table right behind us. luckily only 12 or 13 of us showed up. The food...oh boy...the burgers were dry. the bun was either a burnt english muffin or a bun they put a cinderblock on for the night and threw it in the fire for a few minutes. i almost had to have dental surgery after eating that thing. The waitress we had was pretty rude the entire meal. When it came time to pay we told her how we needed to split up the bill, she said it was impossible to do. I think it was more laziness because i know its possible even if you cancel it out and rewrite it up. So then we had to come up with $400 in cash to pay one of us so she could use her card. It only took us an hour and a half to get a salad, and they didnt bring my buddies wings out first even though its an appetizer. when he brought it up to her, she argued with him. Once you are good and fed up with the meal, you may want to play some pool. The table is conveniently placed on a downwards slant so you dont have to hit the balls too hard. i think it is probably because the midevel times construction is getting up there in age. It is also placed perfectly in front of a bathroom door so people have to tackle eachother to get by. pool was good though, I like having to share 1 stick with 4 guys. it makes it go by a lot smoother. There is so much I want to say about this place, but i cant even think of it all. i think if it wasnt that waitress i ALMOST could have put up with it, but it still would have sucked. limited menu too. im suprised it has as many good reviews as it does.

My wife and I contacted the Stone Hearth Inn when we were looking for options for hosting a wedding rehearsal dinner in the Ludlow / Chester area. Organising these things over long distance is always a challenge. But Francy & Sheldon were hugely accommodating and worked with us to set up interesting and tasty menu options for our dinner including creative options for our vegetarian family and friends. The Inn features a private dining area that was ideal for our group of 33. Francy greeted us at the door and helped our party settle. We had a dedicated server who hit the balance between providing attentive service and giving our party privacy. Great food. Great service. Great Vermont atmosphere! It really was an excellent evening. We would highly recommend the Stone Hearth Inn to others organising a similar event.

We stayed in Stone Hearth Inn, Chester Vt the first weekend of November I had set up the reservations through booking.com . The listing mentioned that we'd receive a full hot breakfast and that our room had 3 queen beds and was only on the second floor. We called booking to confirm everything a week or so before we left as well as the Inn, explaining again about my disability and our service dog. As well as the room we had booked. When we checked in Saturday we found out that we were on the 3rd floor not the second as we were promised. The next morning as we entered the dinning room we realized that the promised"full hot breakfast" was REALLY a COLD continental breakfast of fruit cup, yogurt and any off brand boxed cereal we wanted. There were English muffins and jam or peanut butter. I ate just the fruit cup. I was extremely upset because we were lied to at every turn. I mean the room on the 3rd floor was nice, except we had no toilet paper, thank goddess for baby wipes which were in joann's car. . I just don't understand why we were not told the truth. On one good note which is why I game 2 stars and 0 as I wanted to, was because the owner (I think) told us we weren't allowed to have the dog on either bed because of the duvets' but he did return seconds later with an additional flat sheet delivered with a (wink, wink and a nudge, nudge) and therefore Deidre slept on the king size bed with us, allowing our friend to sleep on the twin. This will not be our next place yo stay or recommend.

Outstanding atmosphere, food to love and great service. Will be back again. Thursdays kiddos eat free from the kids menu. Not a bad meal to be had here. Give this little gem a try!

Quintessential Vermont! Local, organic meat and I am still dreaming about their goat cheese. Delirium on draft! Waitress and owner were extremely kind. We arrived as the kitchen was about to close, they were very gracious in taking our party and did not rush our group. Live music, pool table, foosball. Stone Hearth is a must apres-ski stop for those staying in the Windham / Chester area!

My sister was married in Chester last weekend, at the fabulous Williams River House (see review). We had the rehearsal dinner and "after-parties" at the Stone Hearth. Sheldon, Francy and company were SO AMAZING!!! The rehearsal dinner was incredible - yummy lasagne (meat and veggie) in a great, homey atmosphere. The bar at night was hopping, as was the fire pit outside, and the proprietors even offered to drive some of our less-than-sober friends to their motels at the end of the night!!! Chester is truly a special place, and it is because of people like Sheldon and Francy. Thank you so much for all the wonderful hospitality!!!
