Great local joint. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, was really friendly. Great eclectic decor, good selection of beer on tap. Prices are right, beer is cold, and plenty of good conversation - even if you are from out of town.

We were looking for a place to get a beer late one night and this was close to the campground. They had a good local IPA on tap and the bartender was friendly and served us well.

Went to this bar because it had some good reviews and was closest to the house we were staying at. Decent amount of young people. Went on a Sunday night around 11 or 12 and there was a steady crowd. The guy tending bar seemed to possibly be the owner as well. Was playing pool with some of the workers and other patrons. Down to earth homey spot with fun decorations. I saw one of the jiggly jugs machines posted up (like the singing bass fish, but boobies). This place has the good weirdos. They are friendly, kind, and they do not smell funky. They may look like they smell funky, but do not fret because they will just do their own thing and may engage in some pleasant conversation.

The Olde Northender is the best bar in Burlington (objectively speaking, of course). It says a lot about a bar when Monday afternoons are livelier than Saturday nights. You're far enough away from UVM and Church St. here to avoid being bothered by Phish fans, tourists with fanny packs and Heady Topper devotees. In fact, it's sort of mind blowing to consider that the North End hasn't gentrified heavily at this point - the housing stock is far more attractive than most of Burlington. I don't remember the exact prices, but I do recall a good deal on tallboy PBRs - in any case, the Northender is cheap. Also, I heard Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd a total of 5 times across 2 visits.

Best local bar in town, robin or tom will always give you the best drink the bar has to offer. If you like meeting new people and having an all around good time with an assortment of characters this is the bar for you, it's the closest thing to cheers in town, literally everyone knows your name.

I went to this place after being pretty disappointed with the bar selection in South Burlington (apparently, there is quite a difference between south and north Burlington where south is more touristy than the low-rent north). I saw that it was a dive, and since I really enjoy dive bars I decided that I would give it a shot. How divey was it? Let me count the ways: 1) Trophies. Any dive bar worth a shit has trophies, perhaps even a case to display these trophies. Olde Northender Pub (ONP) has a case with trophies. I do not know what they are for nor do I care. I appreciate them. 2) Pool table with local sharks or people who think they are sharks. The pool costs $1 (not bad) and takes dollar bills (hooray!). I did not find the space around the table crowded as some other reviewers did. 3) Cheap beer. I think that the draughts of Genesee were 2.25, and that's pretty good. Oh, and draught Genesee. That's cool. 4) Weirdos. Good weirdos. Not great, but good. There are some drawbacks. Overpriced juke box. It's one of those internet juke boxes that basically sucks -- too many choices, too expensive, and dominated by idiots who have bad taste in music. They should get a real jukebox that plays CDs or records. Televisions. There are televisions and I would like a bar with no televisions, but the beer was cheap enough and cold enough to make me forget about the television.

I was much happier here at the beginning of the Red Sox game. Later in the evening, I was less happy. It had nothing to do with the fact that the Yankees were about to lose. The Yankees have lost nearly 2,000 regular season games during my lifetime. I was unhappy because the composition of the crowd had changed. When I arrived, a very drunk man in a Mike Lowell t-shirt jersey was screaming, "THERE IS NO WAY BARTOLO COLON IS 67 YEARS OLD!" When he was told that the TV had said that Yankee pitcher Bartolo Colon weighs 267 pounds, and nothing about his age, he responded, "SO? WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH IT?" And a man who told me several times that I would not know happiness until my children left home for good. I prefer those people to flannel mope warmers. And collegiate people. I would have thought that the University of Vermont provided fraternity space for their ruminant students to drink, vomit, and redrink beer.

The Olde Northender is where my friends and I are meeting during a zombie apocalypse. We've actually given a lot of thought to what we would do if/when this should happen and the Olde Northender just makes sense as a meeting place. With it's $1.75 Geneso drafts, $2.50 PBR big boys. and the variety of snack items it has stocked behind the bar, we'll definitely be able to survive there for a few days. Plus with its close proximity to the lake, it will make our get away to the islands that much easier.

As far as neighborhood dives go, this is pretty darn good. The beer is cheep, there's a good deal of local flavor in the clientele and if you go early you can sit on the patio in back. At least last summer and I don't suspect it will change this year, people need to come inside from the small patio in the rear at 10:00 because of the city noise ordinance. It's not pretentious, they have darts and it's much more low key than the offerings on Church St. If you just want a beer and a good conversation go to the Olde Northender.
