Much, much, much better than New World but still quick and a great bargin. The burritos are HUGE, like a small baby wrapped in foil. The menu offers a ton of choices so they can accomodate even the pickiest of eaters. Not super impressed with the people skills of the counter help, but since the food is good and comes out quickly, it doesn't keep me from stopping by when I need a burrito fix.

Been here twice and it is now my go to restaurant for Mexican. Prices are good and the portions are too. I enjoy sitting at the table behind the register and watching the employees work. Being able to watch my meal being prepared in front of me is huge. They do a good job and the work area is clean. I get a burrito and my mom will get the portabella mushroom salad. We both like them a lot. Its also nice to take care of our own dishes and not leave a tip. However I tip at the register because the service and food are both good.

We stopped by here for a quick, no-thrills bite to eat one night. Bueno Y Sano had friendly service, good prices, and good food. I don't see myself specifically seeking it out in the future, but if you're looking for a quick, decent, fresh burrito, it's worth the stop. I had the Spicy Chipotle Chicken burrito, which wasn't very spicy. The flavor was good, but not anything exceptional. And to the reviewer (Christopher B.) that docked them a star for not having table service: really? It seems to me that type of service would not be a good fit for this eatery.

I've been here 2 days in a row and I'm thinking about making a 2nd trip today! Their Spicy Chipotle Chicken burrito with Portobello Mushrooms is to die for!

Enjoyed a late lunch...generous tasty and healthy! I had a steak and mushroom quesadilla and Dan had a barbecue chicken burrito. Nice low key atmosphere too. Simple and not pretentious.

My favorite lunch spot in town- fresh food , nice portions, and some damn good salsas. Staff is nice. Soft tacos are killer. The only downside is the breakfast burrito can be a little....moist...otherwise, killer all around.

I came here with my friend for a quick bite over lunch hour. Affordable and delicious. I will be back!

Cons: No corn tortillas, beans (IMO) tasted undercooked The size of the burritos offered were of exceptional value for the price and taste at Bueno Y Sano. Staff could have been friendlier, but I guess that's what you get in Burlington VT. Recommended.

Simple, healthy, real food!!! The staff at the counter are always happy to customize your order too. Salad is a great and filling dinner option--comes with a side of rice and beans with grilled onions, peppers on top. Burritos are large, you can get even bigger size for like 50c or you can get the burrito with a side of rice and beans. This is our go-to spot every week after yoga class...and whenever there's too long of a wait for a seat elsewhere.

Wandered into Bueno Y Sano after deciding that the buffet at the vegetarian place next door required too much decision-making. We had a fish tacos (nicely cooked deep-fried fish pieces on corn tortillas with rice) and a BBQ chicken burrito. Good food and service in a casual college-town restaurant.

Before Bueno... Before Burritos -- who was I? I have to admit, there was a time years ago when I didn't really appreciate them, but thanks to Bueno and the coaxing of some friends I have seen the error of my ways. When I worked in the downtown area, my coworkers and I would make Bueno y Sano a weekly stop -- my staple, as I rarely deviate when I have found 'my favorite', is the the BBQ pulled pork burritos, fresh jalapeno, sour cream on the side (oh, and ask for their 'special hot sauce' that they keep hidden behind the counter if that is up your alley). I can also vouch for the stuffed jalepenos, which are fabulous. Make sure to get plenty of their salsa (they usually have two bowls out, one corn salsa and another pico). Drink selection is great too, and little secret, the carry Heady Toppers!

Awesome steak burrito! I also got the chips and guacamole. Both were very good. I had to do take out but will definitely be back again to dine in. Give the burrito a try!

These burritos are BORING and since they don't heat the tortillas, the complete thing is typically tepid at best. New World Tortilla uses much fresher ingredients and is tastier overall for around the same price.

Excellent food, fast service and good prices. I had a chickpea and curry burrito (must be from the Punjabi region of Mexico!), which was terrific. Lots of choices for vegetarians and vegans. This restaurant is adjacent to the also-good Stone Soup Restaurant. But Bueno y Sano is a better value and a more comfortable environment, overall.

In my ongoing quest to provide my in-take regarding Burlington Burrito options (...Burlington Burrito Option would be a good name for a band...) I thought I'd revisit Bueno Y Sano, which I had tried a year ago or more, in my pre-Yelp days. Burritos were reasonably priced on par with the other burrito joints in town. Ten dollars bought me a big beef burrito and a soda. I bought it to go, and the cashier was kind enough to point out a structural weakness in the burrito (they really stuffed it!) and marked the tinfoil around the burrito with an arrow to indicate where I should begin noshing. (Nice.) I got a standard, beef, lettuce, cheese, salsa, rice, and beans burrito. The menu gives you the option to add yogurt to the burrito. Hey, I'm adventerous (well, maybe only in regards to burritos), so I had some yogurt added as well. Very delicious burritto. Good portions, and good flavors. Meat was tender and well seasoned. The other toppings were well-flavored and a fresh. For my fellow burrito-philes, I'm heartily recommending this place.

Great tasting food however the burrito are usually wrapped in an impossible way to eat without a fork and knife or a mess. The prices climb pretty quickly and what feels unreasonably for adding just some veggies into it.

Thanks to Yelp, we were serendipitously routed to this restaurant while looking for Chipotle. I'm from California so I've definitely had more share of burritos - most not too impressive. While looking at the menu, I realized they had several options that weren't traditional Mexican burrito. Feeling a bit adventurous, I opted to try the Thai Chicken burrito and I must say I am definitely a fan. It was full of the flavor of creamy coconut milk which I absolutely love. I am definitely coming back! I like how they made twists on their menu. The food was delicious!! I loved it. For the time I'm in Vermont, goodbye Chipotle - see you in California. :)

Best burrito I have ever had--hands down. Being a vegetarian, it's not always easy to find something that is actually satisfying and delicious. I'm not complaining, it's just a fact. Luckily, this joint does not disappoint. I was introduced to the BBQ seitan burrito several years ago and have not looked back since. There is just something so incredibly unique about the taste of this burrito. Every burrito I have eaten since just doesn't hold a candle to the BBQ seitan. Not to mention, you have the choice of ordering yogurt, in lieu of sour cream, which tastes great and is relatively healthier. Having moved from Burlington about 6 months ago, I have dreamed constantly of the day that I could return to taste that delicious dish again. When that day finally came--not so long ago, it simply cemented my love for this burrito. The first bite is my equivalent to a religious experience, and it gets better after that (Is that even possible). So, until the day I can return to taste my favorite meal again, I will continue to dream and drool over the memory of the BBQ seitan burrito.

I eat here at least once a week. Super cheap tacos & multiple Mexican beers: you can't go wrong! Way better than Boloco.

Stopped in here here while en route to Montreal from Connecticut last weekend (seriously). Had been driving through (pretty) nothingness for a few hundred miles when suddenly there was hunger, Burlington, farmer's market crowds, and no quick stop, non-crowded, easily identifiable lunch spots in sight. Oh, and both members of the we to which I'm referring are vegetarian, to throw another restriction into the mix. happycow.com to the rescue... kinda. First stop was some very closed pizza place. Second was Bueno Y Sano. Lucky for them, they make tasty burritos quickly. Otherwise, they would have had two cranky travellers on their hands. burritos were big, but not overwhelmingly so (a la Qdoba). We both had BBQ seitan, I added zucchini, since seitan alone seemed a bit plain. I think my burrito set me back something like 8 or 9 bucks, which seemed like a bit much. Price aside, the burrito was very very tasty, and I'd definitely be back if it were a little closer to home.

I've been there on a one night stop in Burlington. Since downtown restaurants were nothing affordable, I found this one that offered me good prices and mexican food that i didn't had in weeks. The place looks OK and clean, the attendants are nice and friendly, The food is not really the best and not even close to mexican or tex-mex. I guess it's not easy to find a mexican cook or chef in Vermont, so this is the result of this.

Barbecue seitan quesadillas? Not exactly authentic but definitely tasty. Good prices and great options for meat eaters and veggies alike. Good location too.

    (4)
  • Julie S.

By no means authentic, but tasty nonetheless. They are also extremely accommodating for people with all different tastes--they have great seitan burritos, but also have a ton of meat choices and lots of different fillings and sauces to mix and match as you like it. Personally, I think their vegetarian options are a little overpriced (surely it costs less to prep a vegetarian burrito than one with pork or beef, so if you want them to be the same price, include guac for vegetarians maybe?). But all-in-all, a pretty good choice.

Decided to hit this place up for lunch. I'm not sure how long it has been open but it is fairly new. I was impressed with the Thai Chicken burrito that I had. It was pretty big, defiantly worth the $7.25, and very flavorful. But I wish they added some chips or something else to the plate. When you get a huge burrito on a metal plate, with literally nothing else, it looks weird. But make no mistake, it was really good. I like this place better than New World Tortilla because they don't grill their burritos. They're the "chewy" kind that hold everything in.

We came across this place when the place we wanted to eat at was closed! I had remembered seeing it on the Happy Cow and knew it would be vegetarian friendly. It definitely was, with two kinds of seitan, tofu and of course beans and cheese. There may have been more, but I saw bbq seitan and didn't look any further! I had the bbq seitan in a burrito and was completely satisfied! The seitan was sweet and tangy, which made for an interesting combination with the tex-mex flavors! Very good! Service is quick and casual as one orders from the counter.

my friend and i drove up from Killington to spend the day running around Burlington, taking in some sights, checking out UVM etc..... we were told to check out Flatbread pizza but as it turns out they closed between 230pm and 5pm as did a bunch of other places around town. we were starving and were happy to see a mexican place was open during 'off hours'... the counter dude was nice but a little confused. we asked for nachos but you would have thought we asked for some rare item never heard of in a mexican establishment. another dude in the back said we dont have nachos but we saw there was clearly chips, cheese, guac, etc... we asked the guy to just make some and he was STILL was confused. he finally said uh okay ya i can do that. they managed to throw some ingredients together and heat it up for us. they turned out just okay. the salsa verde was good but the salsa rojo was to watery. we had a hummus pita from the truck at UVM and that was wayyy better than this place

Great, inexpensive food, good service, good attitudes. Best in town for price and I have been to them all. Breezy in winter when door opens so sit in the nooks.

After living in Southern California for a while, I've become a bit of a snob when it comes to Mexican food. There have been a slew of wannabe Mexican and burrito type places that have come and gone. Or worse still, restaurants with awful food that for some unknown reason continue to operate business. So I was quite pleased when we went to Bueno Y Sano a few nights ago and found the prices decent, the portions generous, and the food really tasty. I had 2 tacos - a chicken and a steak. It came with rice and beans. The rice and beans were only ok, but the tacos were great. My partner got a chili burrito, which was massive and also tasty. Our son got a bean and cheese burrito from the kids menu, which was huge for something on a kids menu. We shared grilled jalapenos, stuffed with cream cheese and mushrooms. They were ok, not great. Overall, though, I liked this place and will definitely be going back.

Not really Mexican food, but pretty tasty. Food could be hotter (serving temperature-wise, spice factor is up to patron's choice of salsas). I had the chickpea/red curry burrito, which was saucy enough not to need salsa, but the hot sauce tasted good with it. My spouse was disappointed with the flavor of his more traditional chicken burrito. The space is pretty nice. The staff is probably stoned.

Great food and friendly staff. This is the best burrito in town. I try to go here at least once a week to get my fix of burrito goodness. Fresh ingredients and an interesting menu. I do wish the burritos were a bit larger but you can always upgrade it for another 50 cents.

  • Jason C.

This is the best burrito place I've found in town. The prices are reasonable and the portions are pretty big (you can also order smaller portions if that's your thing). I personally love the BBQ Chicken Burrito, but have had many other things that are just as great. I don't care for the Thai Chicken Wrap and believe New World Tortilla does that best. It costs about $10 for a burrito, drink and chips.

That response makes me feel a lot better about what happened. I'm going to stop by and give you guys another chance. Will update again afterwards. Just showed up at 8 and even though they said they were open until 9 they said they "were not taking any more orders". Maybe I need to get into the Burlington laid back vibe. Obviously have no idea if the food is good.

Four stars on the Burritos - MUCH better than El Cortijo - though shaped like a softball which makes them tough to eat and get all ingredients in one bite. Zero stars on the service. I've had two bad service experiences here, dudes behind the counter need to seriously cut back on the bong hits. After waiting for what felt like a really long time at the counter for my burrito (would it really be so hard to walk them the extra 10 feet to your table???) they handed it to me and I realized on my first bite once seated with my friends - all half done with theirs - that I got steak instead of the pork I ordered. No big deal, figured they just bungled my order, I can get down with steak and didn't want to start the wait over so I continue to eat it without complaint when one of the dudes comes to the table and tells me I took the wrong burrito. I tell him that I took the one he handed me and said was mine. He then cops an attitude and tells me that I shouldn't have eaten it if it wasn't mine (as if I have magic burrito x-ray vision and could have known they had given me the wrong one before biting into it) and that now he will have to make another one for the other person at which point I am too stunned to point out that I had ordered and been waiting for mine before the rightful owner even walked in. Mistakes happen - especially when you're stoned - but it's how you handle them that counts and this was handled poorly. The second experience was mostly just awkward and confusing but combined might be enough to keep me from coming back. Burrito quest continues...

Bueno y Sano continues to impress with its simple, healthy and inexpensive pseudo-Mexican fare. Despite the fact that your meal will be prepared within 3-5 minutes, it would be a mistake to label it "fast-food". It's prepared so quickly only because the menu is so well conceived and executed. The quality and consistency are remarkable. We've been coming here most Monday nights now for almost 2 years. After 70-80 meals, we haven't had a bad meal yet. No mistakes, no overcharges, no bad experiences at all and we've always had the same super service. Speaking of the service -- the crew that works here is really what makes this little place tick. They're fun, friendly, and they really seem to enjoy their work. They are truly a very well-oiled machine. Whether they have a line out the door or just a few tables seated, they always provide service with a smile. The open kitchen never fails to churn out some really yummy plates. Here are my menu faves in no particular order (I'm vegetarian): - Portobello & zucchini salad with lemon dressing (best salad in town) - Mushroom & onion quesadilla - Chickpea & red curry burrito (get it with yogurt dressing) - East/West burrito with tofu - Burrito with marinated tofu - Fish tacos My teenage son is an omnivore and he really likes the steak burrito. We love ByS! We'll be back again and again.

Perfect quick bite to eat. The food is always fresh & the staff is friendly. Get the soft tacos, they are the perfect size and you can't beat the price.

Stopped here for lunch and was very happy! I had a steak burrito, my husband had pulled pork, one daughter had chicken, the other a vegetarian - all were reported to be terrific! The burritos are pretty big - go hungry! Prices were extremely reasonable considering how big the burritos were. About $8 each. Well worth a visit!

The food is average not bad but nothing special. However the experience me and my friend had was quite awful. We ordered are food to go and stepped aside and waited for it to be ready. While we were waiting were chatting and just standing around looking straight where the kitchen area is. As we were looking ahead of us and chatting one of the employees starts to ask us very rude questions such as "Do you always stare at the people making your food?" "How food you feel if i was staring at you while you were making a burrito." My friend and I weren't even staring at him and at first we thought he was joking or something and as he rung up our food he wittingly says "Next time you shouldn't watch down at the people making your food." "All I am thinking is like has this guy ever been to chipotle?" Upon unraveling our burritos everything was fine however our burrito looked more like a bunch food wrapped around in a tortilla in the shape of a baseball.

Great burritos the size of your stomach hit the spot after hitting the slopes all day !!

Meh, more Sano than Bueno. The tacos are mini burritos. The chicken and steak taco meat was pretty much flavorless, I guess they're catering to the veggie crowd. The guac was legit, and the chips were super fresh. Had an excellent can of beer.

Best burritos in Burlington for sure. Beats the popular chains in quality, and comparable on price.

We are regulars and literally eat here (well, get takeout more than dine in) at least once per week. Our favorite: salad with lemon vinaigrette, bbq chicken, grilled portabella, and grilled zucchini with a bbq chicken quesadilla with sauteed spinach and garlic and red onions. OMG!! For only $25 bucks total, each meal comes with rice and beans and is a great value! Not only that but it's FRESH and soooooooooooooo damn good! Would have rated it 5 stars but they don't have table service, which is really no big deal to us. I don't know what we would do without Bueno Y Sano!

  • Alex M.

The food was fine, but when I used a gift card to pay the cashier said that I could not use 2 coupons at once. I told him I was using a gift card and he said that a gift card counted as a coupon. This makes absolutely no sense and ended up costing me an extra $4 on my order. The cashier then put in my order without giving me a chance to raise my concern to the manager, clearly customer service is not a priority. A side note, make sure you ask for black beans if you want them in your burrito.

    (2)
  • Tey H.

Found this place to be a decent takeout place. Pork is reliably tasty but some of the ingredients are kept ice cold, which turns your burrito into a strange cool hot combo. Woman at counter is often surly but the rest of crew is helpful.

As a vegan, I thoroughly appreciated having more options than just a bean burrito. The marinated tofu burrito was delicious! Highly recommended. They also have grilled and bbq seitan as other vegan/vegetarian options. No table service means the restaurant is very casual. The staff couldn't have been nicer.

Bean burrito with chipotle sour cream for me, two tacos for my husband, and one heady toper between us is a perfect amount of food for a reasonable price. We just moved to Burlington and this is our new go to spot. Love it.

Delicious food. I absolutely love this joint. The dillas and yummy along w/ the burritos. I generally get a tofu spinach quesdilla comes w/ beans and rice on the side. Also there's always this corn salad (for free) in the corner by the beverages. a must eat! bonus - i saw Governor Shumlin in there before!

This is one of the only places I've been where when they say "fresh," they mean "bland." All that rice they pile in the burrito to disguise the notable lack of filling is very "fresh." I once added tons of their chili to my burrito and had a good experience here, but I went back a few days later and it was back to bland, even though I again ordered the chili. I'll take the place around the corner over this place any day!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
