We stopped at this little nook in Brattleboro on our way to Burlington, VT based on a coworker's recommendation. I'm happy we did because it turned out to be one of my favorite stops of the trip. The inside looked, felt, and smelled like Vermont. They had a huge variety of local items and most importantly, maple syrup. We got a maple syrup BBQ pulled pork sandwich and a container of mac and cheese. The pulled pork was absurdly delicious and the maple flavor was very prominent. The mac and cheese was made with local cheese, and definitely belongs in my top 3. Highly recommend this place if you're passing through or staying in Brattleboro or want an excuse to drive to Vermont.

Excellent Pie's. Just excellent. Thick, buttery, flakey crust with rich and fresh fillings. So good. They have a great deli too. I've had a tuna fish sandwich that was great. And did I mention the pie...

I live down in the Pioneer Valley, so this is not a place I frequent; as a once-in-a-while treat, if I have time, I always stop on my way to Brattleboro and points north or on the way back south again. I like this place and have not experienced the bad service people speak of. At times, I notice a vague sense of boredom on the part of the people working here and a lack of coordination among the different parts of the operation, but generally, to get to order and purchase some of their yummies, it's not a big deal. It can be chaotic if it's a busy time of day. The deli is very pricey so buying food here is a splurge. Yes, the parking lot is treacherous. I usually park at the shop next door, hit the can, and come over to the main place to browse and buy. My fave "dish" is the chicken penne with lemon and parmesan. I LOVE the curry puffs, too, but they are not made here and are a true indulgence due to the price (2 bucks each, Holy Vermont Cow!). There is so much food and so many different options that I've experienced very little of their vast selection. I like the VT-made food area and purchased a gift item once (can't remember what it was). I'd love to see compostable silverware. Next time, I'll mention it to the staff and if you do, too, we may see some change. This is Vermont, there's no excuse for one-use plastic! (PS, I keep my own disposable utensils in my car and sometimes manage to remember to use them!)

Sandwiches are amazing and fresh! I ordered a small cake to go from the pastry window, while very very pretty, it was a little dry. This place is often packed and bustling. Small wait in line for sandwiches, but trust me, it is well worth it! They also sell huge fresh baked cookies, along with other little food items and knick knacks. Workers preparing sandwiches were very kind, one woman at the register though - not so much and so I will leave the VT country deli with 4 stars.

Saving this one in the memory banks if I'm passing through and need some food right off the highway. VT Country Deli is so popular that it causes traffic jams. Seriously, I got off I-91 and was puzzled by the stop and go traffic until I reached the deli and realized it was people trying to turn left into the parking lot. The sandwiches make excellent hiking food. Dense bread, plenty of meat and cheese and veggies. My S.O. and I picked up a Rt. 9 Roast Beef (Beef, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, horseradish mayo, dijon mustard) and a Roundabout Russian(Russian Dressing, Turkey, Swiss, Pickles, Sprouts, Lettuce). There are plenty of other options, but these are both good. I'm a pickle fiend so I liked the Russian better. I suppose you could eat here, but its next to a busy highway so I would suggest hiking a nearby mountain and eating them at the top. That's what we did.

I grew up just outside of Brattleboro, & Vermont Country Deli has always been one of my favorite spots for lunch in the area. Their mac & cheese is to die for, loaded with cheddar cheese & baked freshly throughout the day in a cast iron pan. Another staple is their maple pulled pork, which is super tender & moist. Their sandwiches are also delicious, & you have the option of either selecting a sandwich from their menu or creating your own. In addition to tasty lunch items, Vermont Country Deli offers such delicious, housemade desserts as pies, brownies, cookies, tiramisu, cakes, & eclairs. Personally, I'm partial to their peanut butter chocolate brownie & tiramisu. Vermont Country Deli also sells an assortment of bottled drinks, jams, made-in-Vermont cheeses, chocolates, and candies. For the area, the prices are on the high side (a sandwich will cost you $6-8, while the mac & cheese will run you $3.75 per 1/2 pound), but the food is certainly worth the additional cost. Tidbits: -There is no seating (i.e., you take your food to go). -There is very limited parking outside, so during the lunch rush, you might have difficulty finding a place to park. -There are no public restrooms. -For their sandwiches, try the housemade roll.

The "traffic jam" was the best deli sandwich I have ever had. Great roll, tender meat, delicious chipotle aioli and nice fresh vegetable toppings. This was jam packed during lunch time but that is only more evidence of how good this place is!

Vermont Country Deli or, VCD, as it is commonly referred to by the yuppie skiing folks who frequent it on their drive north every weekend of ski season, is a delightful culinary surprise on the edge of Brattleboro. Mainstay dishes include their Mac N Cheese, their maple pulled pork sandwich, and their superb desserts from fresh made pies, mousses, dinner plate sized cookies, to delectable sea salt dark chocolate covered caramels. No place to sit folks, but this excellent take out treasure trove is worth your patronage whether you're on your way north or south from brattleboro (it's conveniently located just off the highway). You can purchase a variety of local vermont specialties unavailable further south, although their prices are inflated for the ski crowd. They also semi recently opened a type of general store next door.

Just stopped in at the Vermont Country Deli for the first time and all I can say is wow! This place is incredible. If you want to go to a legitimate country deli, then this is the place to go. you walked in the door and you are instantly overwhelmed with the amount of pastries and baked goods they make fresh. The first things that you see when you walk in are cookies the size of a basketball. On top of that, as in the name, they have a phenomenal amount of deli items that looks delicious. The final plus is that their shelves are stocked with a variety of Vermont made goods and cheeses, as well as wines. The staff is also polite, and when you walk in the door they treat you like part of the family. Long story short, if you are looking for an incredible breakfast sandwich or a hearty lunch then this is the place to stop!

If there is ever a place where excessive price meets excessive awesome, this might be the place. Fantastic spot to stop and pick up a picnic, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Hard to go wrong. Everything created here in house is really remarkable. Parking is a bit quirky, so be careful.

We've been stopping in at least every other month for the last several years and it has been very inconsistent. From good to ok to bad. The mac and cheese is a staple but that has been the most inconsistent. Sometimes it's dry and pasty or the top is burnt and today it was just stringy cheese and macaroni. No seasoning and apparently not made with a rue to start. The brownies are also inconsistent. They have been everything from really yummy to dry to raw and under cooked. But the most disappointing was the apple pie we bought to bring to a friends house, it was embarrassingly bad. The best description I could give is sliced overcooked apples in gel baked in a pie crust. They really should offer something a bit more well made for the price they charge. The egg rolls are good, some of the pasta salads including the seaweed and kale salads.

I have been loving this place for a long time and having recently visited I can see why. Most of the food here is absolutely superb, aside from just a few misses. The mac and cheese, pulled pork, giant cookies, and grilled asparagus here in particular are all truly delicious. The service is great and I like the range of snack foods and locally sourced cheeses and maple syrups they sell. The ambiance of this place is really warm and Vermonty and I realllllly like that you can now park in this sizable lot just to the right of the Deli. Anyway, as for misses I have to say that the potstickers and sesame noodles here are not as good as they used to be. I am also not crazy about the baked goods. That is, aside from the cookies which come in chocolate chip, molasses, etc and are soooo awesome. They are located just to the left when you walk in the door, so remember to snag some before you leave. I love the subtly sweet pulled pork here. While it is a little fatty and moist, that fact actually works really well with the crisp slaw and thick bread they serve it with when you order it in sandwich form. The mac and cheese is decadent and flavorful and delicious. I also want to really tip my hat to the grilled asparagus I purchased here, which was smoky and yummy and perfectly cooked. Be aware this place can get very busy around lunch but that is to be expected as it is conveniently located like two minutes from the highway. So, while not flawless in absolutely every respect, this deli is awesome and if you are driving up 91 and passing by exit 2 you just have to stop here and give this place a try. Yum.

Dear Pretentious Brattleborians: The food is fresh. The service kind. If you think this is expensive come to NY or CT and you'll see expensive. I backed my truck out fine, no insurance card needed because I looked both ways. Support all local businesses not just the ones convenient to you and why dis tourists? They support your community. Anyway, stop here if you're hungry it's good food plain and simple. Love, A New Yorker With Vermont Roots

Wonderful food and great service. I love their sandwiches and also their prepared foods. This place always seems to be hopping and it's a fantastic place to pick up a sandwich or a dessert. The food is all freshly made and gourmet quality.

I can see that most reviews are from out of state, that's because this place is designed for that purpose. It's a fly trap, over priced and definitely not anymore Vermont than Mount Snow! Sure everyone loves it because it is their idea of Vermont! I laughed when I went in there and saw the prices and so calked deli. It's just what I would expect in NYC..but is sure isn't Vermont. Oh and enjoy the great parking,I can tell you those of us who live here really appreciate it, have your insurance card ready!

Sandwiches are great. Sweets are delicious. Wonderful breads. Hot food is just great down home cooking to keep one fat and happy in the winter months; it's food that soothes the soul and warms the heart. Give it a try. You won't be sorry you did.

Doesn't a place like this seem like it would be a good choice? Easy access off the highway, prepared foods, quaint interior. Here's the problem: the food isn't good and this is a food store. For some reason it took me a few stops here to figure it out. To sum up the experience, I turn for inspiration to one of America's most eloquent orators of the past century: Fool me once, shame on you. [...] You fool me you can't fooled again. Vermont Country Deli: you shall not fool me again.

This cute little gem, which looks like someone's cottage, is worth a visit. The sandwiches are pretty awesome, especially the roast beef one. But this deli carries many delicious looking prepared foods, too, if you're not in a sandwich kind of mood. Outside of getting your hunger taken care of, there is a wide variety of baked goods and unique snacks and chocolates at your disposal. The ginormous cookies by the entrance are to die for, especially the peanut butter one. It is so soft...I brought one home for my husband and he devoured it in seconds. Good thing I bought one for myself! One of the intriguing snacks are fried jalapeño chips...so of course I brought those home too. You can buy the stereotypical Vermont souvenirs here, like maple candy, maple syrup of varying grades and deepness in color, and even any sort of condiment that is partly made with some amount of maple syrup (mustard, salad dressing, jams, you name it). So I got my tourist on! The staff there is super friendly, though I can't imagine people have many reasons not to be nice in Vermont. If you're in the area, at least buy a cookie!

This place is certainly one of a kind. Delicious sandwiches and prepared food. High quality ingredients and homemade bread make the sandwiches amazingly good. I stop every time I am leaving VT. Love love love!!!

We drove out of our way when heading back to New York from a wedding in New Hampshire in order to be able to stop by this place. They have a ton of jams, sauces, etc that they make in house. I could peruse the store for hours. But the deli is where it's at. The pulled pork sandwich is HUGE and absolutely divine. I kept stealing bites of it while driving (my friend would hold it while I took a bite). Maybe not the safest, certainly one of the messiest, methods of eating the sandwich, but I just couldn't wait until I got back to New York. I also highly recommend the mac and cheese. Oh, and you can buy the BBQ sauce for the pulled pork in the store if you want to try to make it at home :)

Part deli, part country store is what you'll find at the Vermont Country Deli, conveniently located right on Route 9 near the junction with I-91. After a quick glimpse of the store, I decided to bypass the country store type goodies (I may need to revisit during a future trip) and headed to their deli and made to order sandwich selections. They have a good selection of deli salads, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and more. I decided to put in for an order of pot stickers and a roast beef sandwich. You have you choice of bread, such as sourdough. You also get your choice of meat, veggies and spreads. You may pay a little more for the food here, but the portion servings for the sandwiches were ginormous. I'll certainly consider the Vermont Country Deli again when I'm in the area.

Summary- Vermont Country (flatlander) Deli serves a mix of delicious and meh food at touristy price$. There is nowhere to sit so it's purely take out and it's difficult to park when it's busy. Food- 3 Stars Highs- Cold Veggy and pasta salads generally rock Coleslaw(s) Baked Goods esp desserts (brownies and tarts omg) Mac and Cheese (overly heavy thou- get a small thing of it) Lows- Heated/cooked items in general are less consistent Burrito's are really overpriced and boring for me. The tortilla's are also sometimes stale Pulled pork is just pork mush with a super sweet BBQ. Not smoked for sure, prolly crock pot or steam cooker made. Service- 2 Stars Recently they closed the door on us 4 minutes before closing time. Not exactly a nice gesture. They help is a mix between fine and disinterested teen. Sandwiches seem slow I never get them. Atmosphere- 3 Stars Quaint and crowded. Value- 2 Stars Generally not cheap, which means when an item isn't awesome you feel ripped off.

We stop at the Vermont Country Deli almost every trip we take up to VT and again on the way home. We have always enjoyed the food particularly the deli. Due to health issues I had to cut wheat and dairy out of my diet. I fully anticipated not being able to get anything there but went in with my husband anyway. Much to my surprise they had Gluten Free rolls! I was so excited! But, the bun is only part of the story as I had to ask about a couple ingredients in the sandwich itself. There was no line so it wasn't like I was holding up the show. The girl waiting on me literally laughed at me when I asked her about an ingredient and must have rolled her eyes 5 times. Look I get it, but I loved their food in the past so really wanted to find something that worked for me. I think I asked a total of 3 questions. Good food, poor service. And if you're going to offer gluten free rolls you should probably anticipate some additional questions, perhaps train your staff a little more.

The food is okay, but way overpriced. This place caters to tourists and travelers. No one who lives in Brattleboro actually goes here. The parking situation out front is terrible and extremely dangerous. There is always a line of Connecticut license plates backing out into the middle of traffic.

This is the first time I have ever written a review. Let me start by saying that I have a 25 year history in the hospitality industry and have an appreciation for the hard work that retail service providers do each and every day. I have also been visiting this location for many years and found the food to be good although extremely expensive and I lived in NYC for many years. This visit all the food looked a bit tired, I assume because of New Year's Day lack of prep. Quite honestly, much of it in the deli area looked tired leftovers. I have bought the pastries in the past and at times they were stale. Now the really bad part. On January 1st of 2015 I stopped in to get my usual food to eat for dinner. The place was unusually quiet and this was no surprise given it was New Year's Day. The place is separated into various stations: dessert, sandwich, deli and their famous pulled pork/macaroni cheese. I typically go to the deli station and get many different things. There were about 3 people at the pork/macaroni station and I was the only one at the deli. I waited patiently, as I usually do, when it is much more crowded. The young lady who was serving the pork/macaroni kept serving that area. I know they service both these locations. No one came to serve me for about 5 minutes - no problem. I kept waiting until the people being served at the macaroni station were now new, came after me and being services but this woman. Now I was getting a bit impatient, so I called out to the woman serving macaroni saying, "excuse me, is this area being serviced?" She snapped back with the comment something to the effect of "can't you see I have customers!" with a real attitude. I replied back something to he effect of I was there before the customers that she was serving now and that her tone was most unpleasant. She than started walking toward me with body language and facial expression of that same bad attitude saying something unpleasant that I can not recall because, quite honestly, I was now upset. Whatever she said was again highly unprofessional. I replied to her that "I know a bad attitude when I see it and you clearly have it" or something to that effect. Just as I finished saying that, another young woman walks up to me and says "I am going to have to ask you to leave". Of course, now I'm furious for being treated so horribly by not only the server, but now who I will assume was a more senior staff member or manager. I will admit that I cursed under my breath in response and she heard what I said, and I walked out. That's the last time I visit this place. I own a bed and breakfast at Mount Snow and have always spoken highly about this place and told people to stop there before getting on the highway. NEVER AGAIN! I will find a new spot and always send people there instead. They will also lose hundreds of my dollars every year. They need to learn how to treat people in a respectful manner regardless of their challenges.

Recommended by a friend. This little shop has just found its way onto my "to-do" list when i travel north. Homemade baked goods and delicious sandwiches. Added bonus: They carry Virgil's Root-beer which is super tasty. Its right near the highway so it was easy on and off. ( i hate stopping too long)

On the way to Dartmouth, we had to stop and get the pulled pork sandwich and the mac n cheese. Both were divine and I highly recommend them. However, I don't understand how this place hasn't set up a table or two for seating. I have to say it was my first meal eating on the hood of my car. Definitely felt like we were in the countryside.

nom nom nom I love pulled pork. burritos, sandwiches, nachos. pulled pork is kind of my thing. That said... Yesterday, after a long Sunday of skiing at Mt. Snow, I stopped at Vermont Country Deli for dinner. They have a nice selection of VT beers, cheeses, wines, maple syrup, etc.I bought a small jar of Stonehill Farm raspberry jam. Ingredients: just sugar and raspberries. VERY good. I am a raspberry jam snob to the max. This was good stuff. I would not lie to the jam community. Almost half the jar is gone today. oops. There were at least 4 different VT maple syrups for sale too. I wanted to buy everything. This store was exactly what I had hoped and expected based on its name and roadside location. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with cheese and cole slaw. It was blackout good. The pork was soft and sweet, NOT smokey. (how much you like it depends on what you're in the mood for) It was certainly well done and it hit the spot, but I don't think every pulled pork loving carnivore would like it because of its mapely bbq sweetness. The line was disorganized and slow. There is no seating (inside or out). the parking lot was full (because everyone eats in their cars). Totally worth it. Next time will buy one of their pies. If I were in a rush (say- coming for lunch), the slowness would have aggravated me, but I was on my way home so I didn't mind. I think the pulled pork sandwich was around $7. I would have paid $10. For the yelpers complaining that it was pricy... if you want mediocre food with lower prices, eat somewhere else.

The good: sandwiches, sides and coffee were delicious. I had a half sandwich and coupled with soup was enough. The Vermont Veggie was like a garden in your mouth. The bad: no place to sit, the lines were disorganized, generally very crowded, seemed pricey but I'm used to $10 sandwiches unfortunately.

All-time favorite deli stop on the way up to Vermont! Delicious potstickers with mustard sauce, cheesy goodness mac and cheese, and melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork...and so much more. Love, love, love this stop right off 91, exit 2.

A great stop fopr a sandwich after a day of skiing...and I alwasy stop in after dropping my daughter off at college...it is very convenient. This food is not expensive...it is fairly priced...and wait a couple of more months if you think things cost alot now...enjoy today. Food is excellent...sandwiches, chili, pulled pork, cookies etc...only complaint is service...always seem to be working at "Vermont" speed...put another person on the sandwich station at the busy times and perhaps do something to gain some control over the hords of Gold Coast Nutmeggers and New Yorkers who think they have an inborn right to cut the lines...and shout at each other...and ask for "a little taste before I decide" when the line is ten people long...just say "No". Obviously yesterday the pretension touched a nerve... Still all in all..one of my favoroite deli's on New England. Worth every penny.

Yummy food to go, much of it freshly prepared, in what amounts to a grocery. The place is really cute looking, right off I-91 at Brattleboro (Exit 2), and if you can get in and out of their tiny storefront parking area without hitting a speeding car on Rt. 9, you'll likely love it. The deli has a large selection of meats and veggies. When we visited they offered two kinds of fish (tortilla-encrusted tilapia and potato-encrusted cod) and some delicious pulled pork simmered in their own maple barbecue sauce (not too syrupy). The veggies include wonderful mac and cheese, bruccoli in garlic, tender beets and savory seaweed salad. They make up sandwiches and have great looking desserts and pastries, and they have a decent selection of Vermont cheeses. Regrettably, they have no tables, so we had to take our picnic down the road a bit to a covered bridge park with a picnic table. Other Yelpers grouse a bit about the high prices; we didn't find them out of line with city pricing (although, to be fair, we're in Brattleboro and not the city). Maybe they have a point, but hey, the food is really good, and that is what counts most for us.

This place is awesome. I had been checking out places in Brattleboro to eat on my road trip this past weekend. It came up in the search and looked good so we stopped. As everyone else says, it has a terrible parking lot setup. You back out right into the busy road. Just be careful with that. Full deli set up with a slew of sides to choose from. I got a 1/2 lb of the potstickers which were about $5.50 a 1/2lb. We ordered a Route 9 to split. What I didn't know, and maybe I shouldn't have assumed, is that the bread wasn't toasted. We got their multigrain bread which is delicious but it would've been so much better with a nice crisp to it. The sandwich otherwise was great. The potstickers were so. freaking. good. I would love to order 5 lbs of these and eat them all myself. Very crowded, lots of idiots in line who think their order is more important than yours (newsflash-it isn't) but it's totally worth the aggravation if you're in the area!

Anything they make in-house is amazing. Walk in the doors and experience the bliss. In buying a sandwich, I experienced some sort of lifting towards a good place. Honestly, their food is amongst the absolute best in the area. Go and you won't be sorry.

The Vermont Country Deli is a great place to stop for a bite, conveniently located off I-91 at Exit 2. I stop in here on my rides between NY and NH. This gourmet shop and deli offers tasty deli sandwiches, paninis, wraps, tasty cold homemade salads, green salads, soups, pizza, quiche, entrees, fresh baked goods, specialty gourmet items (Stonewall Kitchen & made in VT products), cheeses, fresh brewed coffee, and bottled drinks. The food here is on the pricey side for the area. The Roundabout Russian Sandwich (roast turkey, Swiss cheese, sprouts, lettuce & Russian dressing) rocks! I really enjoy those BIG COOKIES, $2.17 each with tax. The Chocolate Chip Cookies are sooo good!! WEBSITE: vermontcountrydeli.com NOTES: No public restrooms here due to zoning regulations. No cellphone conversations inside.

This is a good deli for the following reasons: - Chock full of gourmet foods - Good Coffee - Fresh Food & Variety of Homemade desserts - Unique gifts, VT souvenirs, and wine This is not a great or outstanding deli because: - It is expensive for food and desserts that can be inconsistent in quality - There are no public restrooms or seating - The staff can be abrupt (and the patrons rude) - The selection of candy has dwindled - Crowded at times in points of entrance and egress- There are many out of state customers... Overall it is a good deli with good food if you are headed to your destination with little time to cook or if you want something fresh in the car or to bring to someone's home. If you have more time I'd go to more grassroot spots for food or visit The Vermont Country Store and local farms for the cheese, desserts, or other items noted at a more reasonable cost and pleasant experience.

Every drive up 91 deserves a stop at the Vermont Country Deli for some lunch, sweets or dinner to take home. Mix of deli with local and stonewall kitchen-like fare, as well as take out counter with famously good macaroni and cheese, pulled pork, sandwich bar, seaweed salad, kale salad, breads, cakes, and patisseries. On a cold drive back from the mountains, the hot food is stellar - be sure to mix the macaroni and pulled pork, a personal favorite. Add on top of that fantastic lemon tarts, chocolate bombes, eclairs or an old-school pie, and you are set. On the drive up, grab a sandwich for the day, some ice teas and even a block of cheese if that's your thing. Truly a gem in southern Vermont, I have never, ever, not stopped when they are open and I'm passing through.

Everything here is good. Ever since discovering this place I always stop. BBQ pulled pork, any wrap, and parmesan-crusted cod is all good. If I wouldn't get fat I would try every dessert. Go during the off-season and the parking and lines are much easier to deal with.

Decent selection of take out items, baked goods and typical country store offerings. No public restroom is a mistake, given their proximity to the expressway and location as a way station for skiers venturing to and from Mt. Snow

My favorite place in Brattleboro...hands down. You step foot into the Vermont Country deli and wave of scents and warmth just wash over you. The fresh baked bread...the smell of chocolates...and that's just the smell! When you walk in it's a visual spectacle - exposed brick and wooden planked walls, exposed ceiling beams with various country baskets hanging from hooks...springs of berries, garlic, and herbs hanging down as well. There are huge displays of local Vermont products...like Tom & Sally's...Grafton Cheese Company...Lake Champlain Chocolates, etc. And of course...maple syrups in every flavor...and maple sugar candy in every shape imaginable. They serve the best overstuffed sandwiches I've ever tasted...and they have some of the best side-dish salads you can purchase in the area. It's on the expensive side (and I chalk this up to being a potential tourist trap given that it's just over one of Brattleboro's little wooden covered bridges). Honestly, it doesn't deter me at all...I love it.

This place is like crack for people who love trying gourmet flavors, stocking their kitchens with jars of mouth-watering sauces and dips, or gifting exciting regional bottled yummies. It's more expensive than Trader Joe's, but OH what a treat it is! If you're heading north on I-91 towards NH or VT, definitely make a stop at this cornucopia of delights. On our way back from visiting a friend in Keene, NH, my friends and I dropped by VCD for lunch. All of us stocked up on assorted bottled happiness and also picked up grub for the road. Forty buckeroos was a bit of a splurge for: - a jar of spicy corn relish - a jar of mango chutney - a jar of dense raspberry preserves - a bottle of Fig Vidalia marinade - a big bag of Deep River Sweet Maui Onion Kettle Cooked Potato Chips - a small bag of Madhouse Munchies Sweet Mesquite BBQ Kettle Cooked Potato Chips - a gigantic chocolate cookie the size of my head - 2 large bread rolls, and - a small container of BBQ pulled pork from the deli (enough to make 2 sandwiches). Oh goodness, I think I just listed all that for my own benefit bc I'm salivating now. Parking - the lot is appropriate for the size of the store, but they seem to get such good business that their parking lot would always be full (but there's good turnaround). Too bad they don't have an eating area either - BUT it's a worthy sacrifice; we drove down I-91 a bit until we found picnic tables at a nearby rest stop (it was a warm Fall day). *Review dated 11/11/2008.

Stopped here on my way home from Stowe for a quick bite. I had the "travelin' turkey" sandwich (which had cranberry, cheddar, and turkey, obviously) which was SO good. A bit expensive but the sandwich was large and very filling. I could only finish half and saved the rest for lunch the next day. My boyfriend had a roast beef sandwich, which he said was very good and bread was very fresh. Also picked up some baked goodies which were good too. They had quite an array of prepared foods which looked and smelled great but didn' t try any. I was slighly dissapointed that I had to walk to the gas station next door to use the restroom, but they staff were apologetic and said this was due to some town zoning issue. Also, nowhere to sit down and eat... after driving several hours I was hoping to at least sit down at a picnic table and get out of the car. But, obviously food being most important... Vermont Country Deli still get good marks with me.

We always stop here on the way back from VT. Splendid sandwiches. I always get mine on a soft roll. DELISH! Do yourself a favor and get horseradish mayo. We have had the turkey, roast beef, tuna, and chicken salad sandwiches. Every sandwich we have had is great. They also offer side dishes-take note that the prices are often for 1/2 a pound. The macaroni and cheese is great ,and last time we had the yummy pot stickers too. It can get expensive, and it is always crowded. If you can put up with the slight aggravation, your taste buds will thank you.

Very good food! A bit overwhelming when first walking in and there is a swarm of people but the food was worth wading through the people. The wife and I both had soup and a sandwich. We were both quite happy. The bread was phenomenal as was the sandwich overall. I had the sweet potato and sausage chowder and could have gone for another bowl.

If you are looking for an awesome place for food, gifts, local beer you need to visit. Perfect Vermont spot. Staff was welcoming and super friendly. My daughter and I were in our ski gear coming home from Mt. Snow and grabbed some lunch and treats for the ride home! Awesome place!!!!

Stopped in on a Sunday in early March about 1:45pm and the place was packed. The long lines were handled well by the quick staff and the sandwiches we ate were very good, but the sheer number of people inside the small store definitely detracted from the experience. Did not try any of the hot items or really get to browse much of the store.

What a great little place. Came here for a bagel, and had to come back for lunch. Come here for desserts, sandwiches, hot food, gourmet sauces, you name it!

Stopped by today on our way home from West Dover and picked up sandwiches. My sister and I both had Turkey Travelers which were absolutely delicious. The sandwiches were made fresh, we had our choice of bread. The servers were polite and quick. The place was packed and for good reason. I recommend coming here without hesitation.

YUM! While on a ski weekend, the members of my college ski club couldn't stop raving about the Vermont Country Deli or the VCD. On the way back to school we stopped here for lunch and to get some prepared foods before the blizzard that is hitting Connecticut as I write this review. For lunch I had a Route 9 sandwich with roast beef, horseradish mayo, red onion, tomato, cheddar, avocado, and lettuce on multigrain bread. The sandwich was delicious. The roast beef was tender and well seasoned. I treated myself to a dark chocolate bar, along with 2 small orders of mac and cheese and sesame chicken. The mac and cheese is cheesy and smokey from the cheddar, which is local and incredibly fresh tasting. While the sesame chicken is nutty and has a great sesame taste. Overall, I will return here and purchase more food.

This is a terrific place to stop if you're on the road and looking for a bite to eat for lunch. You can't go wrong with the pulled pork and mac & cheese of course, but the last time I visited, I decided to try the Vermont Veggie sandwich. At first I was a bit overwhelmed - this is a massive sandwich. I ordered it on multigrain bread, and in between the thick slices, you get hummus, black olives, red onion, tomatoes, crisp lettuce, sprouts, pickles, cheddar, and honey mustard. It's quite satisfying! As other yelpers have mentioned, there's no seating inside so you're taking it with you. If you order the BBQ pulled pork, you're going to want to pull over to eat it. Driving and trying to devour this beast of a sandwich is probably dangerous.

Locally we refer to this place as the "flatlander deli" because most of the business comes from out of state tourists. It's really expensive, although many of the prepared foods are quite good. Pay attention to the prices--what seems like a reasonable price per pound is actually the price for a half. Baked goods look tempting but are inconsistent. There are no bathrooms. On the plus side, it's right off 91, you'll be in and out quickly, and the selection will have something to appeal to most folks.

We stopped here for breakfast on Saturday morning. Walking in we were amazed. Everything looked picture perfect.. The treats, the sweets yummm. Mom ordered egg and cheese on a plate, no bread. When she gave my order the man behind the counter got annoyed and said "we only have one cooker at a time!" I am still shocked that this well known deli is serving "dunkin donuts style" pre packaged eggs (you know those flat kind fast food places serve) Don't get me wrong it tastes good but when you want Deli food/cooking you would just expect eggs made on a grill,.. I don't know seems odd because I saw people in the kitchen area cooking... I guess microwaving eggs are more convenient ...That is when I decided to change my order to a bagel with cream cheese. (which I might say was more like a Lenders or prepackaged bagel as well)... but I shouldn't really complain, NY bagels are incomparable. Coffee there was Starbucks brand. It was tasty but I was surprised that they didn't use a more local brand. Seems like this town likes to support one another with local ingredients.. I did not find the prices to be unreasonable or pricey (like some other reviewers).

Wicked expensive, wicked good. This deli is right off of 91, and if you happen to be in the area (I'm usually driving through from CT) and are hungry (or even if you're not), get off exit 2 and stop in for some grub. I got an insanely good maple bbq pulled pork sandwich here. I would marry this sandwich if it was legal. And who knows, give Vermont a couple more years and it may be! This place totally rocks. I can pretty much guarantee that whatever you get is going to be awesome. You'll know it as soon as you walk inside. The sandwiches and whatnot aren't too badly priced. Just be careful if you get caught up with all the gourmet groceries they offer or your mouth might drop when you get to the register.

Neither all that country nor all that deli, this is a good place to stop if you've got a carful of hungry people and no one can agree on what type of food to eat. Of course, chances are a whole lot of other people with Connecticut and New York license plates had the exact same idea, so you'll probably have to edge around people who stand in the middle of the store taking up the maximum possible amount of space and then wait in line with people who exude the "I am much too important to STAND IN LINE" vibe so hard it'll hurt ya. Baked goods look a lot better than they taste and are hit-and-miss re: freshness, so skip 'em and go straight for the chocolate. Prices on the high side for what they offer.

My only regret visiting this place is that I didn't go on an empty stomach! My wife and I popped in as we were driving through the area. We were looking for a light lunch before getting on the highway, saw this deli, and found much more than we'd hoped for! We split a wonderful roast beef on multi-grain bread with a nice horseradish mayo, and a side of broccoli salad that was tasty and fresh. In addition to the terrific sandwich menu (they also make them to order), there are some amazing selections of chicken salads, pasta dishes, veggie dishes, mac & cheese, and so on. But, the "worst" was their bakery selection. The most amazing looking cookies, brownies, etc., that so tempted us! We were good, though, and only added a loaf of the terrific multi-grain bread to our order. The only reason for the lack of the 5th star is the lack of seating. We had to eat our wonderful food in our car. We still enjoyed it, but it would've been nice to sit down at a real table...

This is the greatest tourist/college student trap in town. The food is high quality and even higher priced. The treats are wonderful and really yummy and maybe a little more reasonable than the deli or sandwiches cash wise. You can not dislike this place even with the cost of its fare. It is one of my true guilty pleasures. I struggle with rating this with four stars because of the prices but for a great splurge this is the place!

if the conditions are bad, i actually dip out of skiing early to make sure i can get off exit 2 and collect that mac n cheese before closing time. i get the smallest size because it's so rich and heavy (with cheese, not cream). the sandwiches look really good but they're never going to get a chance so long as there's that humongous cast iron pan of piping hot mac n cheese. for meats, cheese and jams, they are cheaper than the vermont country store. parking sucks because you have to back out against traffic but you just roll with it. a tourist trap that i happily fall into all the time. my only knock is the other customers who have no sense of a line or where one begins or ends.

If you want a quick study on how to rip-off folks from out of state while they pass through on their way to all things skiing, head into this place. Are the sandwiches reasonably good? Yes. But everything is insanely overpriced, and all of their baked goods come frozen from sysco out of a box. The parking situation is absolutely ridiculous and I can't count how many times I've nearly collided with someone trying to pull out when I drive by. I'm glad it exists only because it satisfies most of the tourists and keeps them out of the places I actually like to eat. But make no mistake, there's nothing really "Vermont" or "Country" about it. You want a Vermont Country deli experience- go to the Wardsboro Store or the Newfane Market!
