My wife and I were in town to celebrate our second anniversary with a dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. Our whole weekend turned out to be quite amazing, and our accommodations at the Gay Street Inn were a big part of that. We found the new owners, Gary and Wendy, to be very kind, and certainly helpful with whatever we needed to make our stay comfortable. The Inn itself is beautiful, comfortable, and in a perfect location for walking the small town of Washington, VA, or for exploring the many other sights within a short drive of the region. A few things in particular that we loved about our stay, were the offering of local Virginia port and chocolate in the evening and the amazingly delicious breakfast that was provided in the morning. After our meal at the Inn at Little Washington the night prior, who would've thought we'd even want to look at food, but....it was that good! I would recommend the Gay Street Inn to anyone from foodies in town for a meal at the Inn at Little Washington, to outdoors lovers, or to anyone just looking to get away from it all. We had a great experience! Oh, and btw---it's very reasonable price wise
My husband and I had dinner reservations at the little Washington in, so we decided to just make a night of it. Checking in was a breeze. A breeze across that beautiful front porch, that is! It was not unlike arriving at a friend or family members home. After we arrived we went for a walk around Washington. Gay Street and was very conveniently located to everything the little town had to offer. When was time to go have dinner, we were able to walk to the restaurant in no time at all. Upon our return, in the living room area there were chocolates and a wonderful tawny port waiting for us. Light comfortable conversation with other guests and the innkeepers was the perfect way to end the evening. The rooms were clean, comfortable, welcoming, and more spacious than you would expect for a house built in the 1800s. The bathrooms were fully updated and we had a very comfortable nights sleep in the bed. We woke to a beautiful view of the mountains from the windows in our room. My husband and I woke early, and waiting for us downstairs was coffee and a very large for selection of teas as well as fresh fruit. Breakfast was hearty and delicious. Although my husband and I were still full from dinner the night before. Which is definitely something to consider. Bottom line is we will be back and we would recommend it to others!
Never been to a bed and breakfast before. As young professionals, celebrating a 30th birthday, we tend to stay in urban modern hotels and this would be a first time out in the country. Wanted to find a place to stay near the Inn at Little Washington so we could enjoy celebratory dinner there. Could not be happier with the experience. The place was immaculately clean and the Inn keepers were so hospitable. The room was updated and comfortable, within walking distance to the Inn. Slept great and had a wonderful breakfast of cornmeal pancakes, grilled grapefruit and maple bacon. Wish we had stayed another night!

TL;DR Fantastic service, superb food and great atmosphere. 4.5 stars Came here with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. The Inn is a combination of a hotel and a restaurant and this review is only for the restaurant part. Valet parking is complimentary. You drive right up to the entrance and a member of the staff will take care of the rest. We came here earlier to have a drink before our meal. We were led to the living room area, which we learned later during our kitchen tour it was originally the kitchen before the expansion. Cameron "the Cheese Wiz" was our server in this area (who is also responsible of Faira the Cow at the end of your meal). The drinks were a bit on the strong side but not too overwhelming and the drinks came with some yummy cajun flavored nuts. When it was our reservation time, the maître d came by to guide us to our table. We sat at the corridor facing their lovely garden. The weather was finally turning warmer and the doors were opened for the night breeze. Our server was Michael for the evening and he was very attentive throughout the meal. We each got a different set menu just so we could try everything. Each of our dishes was explained in details and the staff would patiently explained anything you have a questions about. Please see our pictures for details of each dish. Food was delicious from the beginning to the end. The only half star i'm taking off from the rating is the slightly longer wait time between each course. Since the restaurant was already doing set menus, I believed the timing between each dish could be a little tighter. But this an easy to resolve issue between the staff and the kitchen. At the end of the meal, we were invited to visit Patrick O'Connell's kitchen! Patrick knows each person within the party and is more than happy to discuss anything (ask about his Dalmatian apron!) My wife loves cooking and was ecstatic to meet the chef himself where the magic happens. We also received a small box of cookies and chocolates to take home. A very nice touch to remember the restaurant the next day and on our drive home. Overall, the restaurant staff is very communicative, and very fluid. We moved from one room to another with very little wait times; we went from our dining table to the living room to wait for our kitchen tour, and by the time our tour was over, our car already showed up at the front of the restaurant. Very memorable experience and definitely worth the drive at least once!
The Inn at Little Washington is an amazing experience from start to finish. My husband and I spent the night after our wedding there in November 2014, and we were lucky enough to stay in the Mayor's House Suite. It was the perfect end to a wonderful wedding weekend. We also had dinner there, and the food and service were amazing. If you get the opportunity to stay and/or eat here, make sure you do!
So if you had only one meal on earth, this would be it. A review can't do it justice. It's such perfection from location, ambiance, service and of course the food. Trust me you have to eat here. It's been 19 yrs but I still think about my dinner here. Some day....I'll be back. Till then I dream

This place is really adorable. We stayed here in order to attend our friends' wedding at the Inn at Little Washington. Fairlea is a functioning farm w/ cows, sheep, and donkeys. The grounds are beautiful and vast. The rooms here are nice and well-decorated. Even though there is vintage charm, the bathrooms have been recently re-done and are super modern. We even had a 4-showerhead shower! The rooms had a lot of nice little touches and decorations and included lots of books for perusing. Breakfast here was also fabulous. We had all sorts of baked goods, juice, coffee, and baked french toast. Sue and Walt (who own the B&B) were more than happy to accommodate vegetarians. They were also very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend a stay here.
We stayed here in March '14. This is such a wonderful place! I actually proposed to my gf (now my wife of course) instead of at the Inn at Little Washington. It was such a lovely warm place, it felt like the better place to ask. Walt and Susan were excellent host and were so kind and very welcoming. She made these scrumptious cookies. Best of all, because we were the only ones in the whole house, they let us stay in the suite. They even let us take a tour and check out all the other rooms and provided logs for our fireplace. It was also the coolest experience checking out their entertainment room full of vintage toys. Beware, you'll be smacked in the face with nostalgia. Breakfast was wonderful and the whole experience was awesome! Well worth it. I'll be back for a mini vacation. Plus, its a very dear place to my wife and me. :)
Beware, they make you pay upfront via cash/check and will charge YOU a $25 fee if they cancel.
