My wife and I were in town to celebrate our second anniversary with a dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. Our whole weekend turned out to be quite amazing, and our accommodations at the Gay Street Inn were a big part of that. We found the new owners, Gary and Wendy, to be very kind, and certainly helpful with whatever we needed to make our stay comfortable. The Inn itself is beautiful, comfortable, and in a perfect location for walking the small town of Washington, VA, or for exploring the many other sights within a short drive of the region. A few things in particular that we loved about our stay, were the offering of local Virginia port and chocolate in the evening and the amazingly delicious breakfast that was provided in the morning. After our meal at the Inn at Little Washington the night prior, who would've thought we'd even want to look at food, but....it was that good! I would recommend the Gay Street Inn to anyone from foodies in town for a meal at the Inn at Little Washington, to outdoors lovers, or to anyone just looking to get away from it all. We had a great experience! Oh, and btw---it's very reasonable price wise

My husband and I had dinner reservations at the little Washington in, so we decided to just make a night of it. Checking in was a breeze. A breeze across that beautiful front porch, that is! It was not unlike arriving at a friend or family members home. After we arrived we went for a walk around Washington. Gay Street and was very conveniently located to everything the little town had to offer. When was time to go have dinner, we were able to walk to the restaurant in no time at all. Upon our return, in the living room area there were chocolates and a wonderful tawny port waiting for us. Light comfortable conversation with other guests and the innkeepers was the perfect way to end the evening. The rooms were clean, comfortable, welcoming, and more spacious than you would expect for a house built in the 1800s. The bathrooms were fully updated and we had a very comfortable nights sleep in the bed. We woke to a beautiful view of the mountains from the windows in our room. My husband and I woke early, and waiting for us downstairs was coffee and a very large for selection of teas as well as fresh fruit. Breakfast was hearty and delicious. Although my husband and I were still full from dinner the night before. Which is definitely something to consider. Bottom line is we will be back and we would recommend it to others!

Never been to a bed and breakfast before. As young professionals, celebrating a 30th birthday, we tend to stay in urban modern hotels and this would be a first time out in the country. Wanted to find a place to stay near the Inn at Little Washington so we could enjoy celebratory dinner there. Could not be happier with the experience. The place was immaculately clean and the Inn keepers were so hospitable. The room was updated and comfortable, within walking distance to the Inn. Slept great and had a wonderful breakfast of cornmeal pancakes, grilled grapefruit and maple bacon. Wish we had stayed another night!

We stayed one night (after having dinner at the Inn at Little Washington) and it was wonderful! Fantastic people, bedroom, breakfast, Porto and chocolates at night... everything was perfect!

My husband and I have stayed at the Gay Street Inn twice--once under the previous owners, Kevin and Jay, and once with the new owners, Wendy and Gary. Both times were fantastic, though slightly different. The house is beautiful, and the rooms are sparkling clean and well-appointed. The beds are fantastically comfortable, and they provide you with enough as a guest so that you feel comfortable helping yourself (unless, of course, you need something--they're happy to help). The port and chocolate in the evening is a lovely touch, and I really enjoy the library and the rest of the house. The grounds are well kept and relaxing; as a city-girl it was AMAZING to sleep in a bedroom with the windows open and hear nothing. I was thrilled to sleep in ... so thrilled I missed breakfast. And that brings me to a couple points for suggestions. These are in no way criticisms, because it was really a fantastic, amazing stay. Just suggestions that would make it even more fantastic. The previous owners, as several reviewers stated, asked if you wanted a glass of wine when you arrived. As a frequent traveler, that is one of my favorite amenities in a hotel. Long car trip ends, you get to your place to stay, and now you can relax in your room for just a few minutes before continuing your day. Second, I missed breakfast because of my late-sleeping habits. While I definitely do not expect Wendy to make breakfast all morning, she did mention that there were fresh-baked goodies available until 10:30. Because it's such a small place, it might be nice to give someone who missed breakfast the opportunity to grab one of those for the road as they check out (obviously only if there are any left). Again, neither of my suggestions takes away from my experience. If I'm in the area, this is where I'm staying.

VERY NICE B & B If you are planning on dinner at the exquisite Inn at Little Washington, as we were, this is a great place to spend the night. The owners, Gary & Wendy, are most helpful and happy to answer all questions. The rooms are just fine, as is the breakfast. Location - 4 STARS Room - 4 STARS Value - 4 STARS

Like several others who've reviewed, we stayed here before going to the the Inn@LW for dinner. Honestly, in many ways this charming B&B was better than the dinner! The owners Wendy and Gary were so friendly and helpful, from showing us the inn to giving tips on what to have for dinner to helping us plan our next day in Shenandoah. The port and chocolate after we got back was fantastic. And the breakfast the next day was really lovingly prepared and delicious. Wish we had stayed for longer. A great spot. It is definitely for those who are looking for a quiet getaway - this is not an action-packed town. You won't really even get cell service (a good thing!). But if that is what you need for a weekend, you can't do better than the Gay St. Inn.

Beautiful location and property. The hosts were warm, helpful, very welcoming and gave us great tips on the area. Breakfast was delicious and there was port and chocolate at night! We'll be coming back, definitely.

The house is amazing, with a back yard that looks like heaven. The hosts were incredibly inviting and suggestive of great things to do in the area and great in general. Breakfast consisted of homemade carrot walnut muffins (grab and go available from 7:30 - 10:30), and a hot breakfast from 8:30 - 9:30 - perfectly griddled cornmeal pancakes with a cranberry/maple compound butter, along side perfectly cooked bacon. The inn is located one block up from the main street, which enjoys a quiet view of the rolling hills. Have a glass of wine on their porch while you listen to the soothing fountain behind you or enjoy the haven of the back yard, you won't be sorry to stay here. We plan on staying here every time we are in the area. It's very close to the front entrance of Skyline Drive, only about 7 miles away from where 211 meets Skyline Drive, which is 30 ish miles from the north entrance. They also have great amenities like port and chocolates in the evening, a glass of wine when you check in, wifi and wine glasses. They don't have any tv's, so be sure to play some games, read their many magazines or books in their library. Or bring a dvd and watch it on your laptop, like we forgot to do.

On the recommendation of a friend who had done it, we had dinner at the Inn at Little Washington but stayed at Gay Street Inn. Now I am making the same recommendation to all Yelpers. We got all the hospitality of the fancier inn but at a price we could afford. Kevin and Jay truly approach inn-keeping from the perspective of the guest, and have thought of every little touch you could ask for before you think to ask. They are wonderfully accommodating about dietary restrictions and special needs as long as you let them know in advance. They also were great about making sure we had other activities planned for our drive home and printed out maps of some local things they thought we would enjoy. We stayed in the Garden Room and it was beautifully furnished and perfectly comfortable. The nice firm mattress was great for my sometimes achy back.Six stars.

This place is great! The host partners, Kevin and Jay, are so helpful and nice. We were offered a glass of wine when we arrived and there was port and chocolates out for the guests when we returned for the night. After the best B&B breakfast I've ever had, they pointed us to two great wineries (and were prepared to help us with whatever activities we wanted to do for the day). Seriously one of the best places I've ever stayed. So warm and welcoming and the service was simply amazing.

My fiancee and I stayed at the Gay Street Inn on a recent Saturday night. Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations, and Kevin and Jay went out of their way to make us feel welcome. For instance, the central air conditioner was not working for our room (the Garden Room) upon our arrival; Kevin (a) apologized profusely; (b) installed a window unit while we were at dinner, which worked perfectly; and (c) gave us a bottle of dessert wine to compensate us for the VERY minor inconvenience. In addition, my fiancee has a number of food allergies; Kevin and Jay, who had known about the allergies, had ordered allergy-free muffins from a nearby baker specifically for her. All in all, I would highly recommend the Inn.

A great place to stay for the weekend. Kevin was so helpful and welcoming, as soon as we got there offered me and my wife a glass of wine, helped us with our luggage and answered any questions we had. Very knowledgable about local activities and can guide you in any thing that you would like to do, especially the local wineries. Quaint and cozy and a perfect place to spend the night. If me and my wife are ever in that area again, we will definitely make reservations. Oh and the breakfast was delicious too.

Kevin & Jay are wonderful hosts. Care and attention to detail are noted in the quality of linens, the cleanliness of the rooms and the excellent breakfast. The inn is comfortable and well appointed. We will definitely be back to celebrate another anniversary.

Had a great visit at the Gay Street Inn. We didn't meet Jay, but Kevin exceeded our expectations as an innkeeper. Breakfast was very tasty. I highly recommend their place

Gay Street Inn is a wonderful B&B. Kevin and Jay are committed to their guests having an amazing experience. Even coming after dinner at the Inn at Little Washington the night before, the Inn breakfast was notable - cranberry pancakes, pastries, fruit, and really great coffee (recipes on their website). Wonderful choice if you want to get away from it all.
