My coworker Feem recommended that we give smashburger a try today for lunch. There are so many burger chains in the area its hard to keep them straight. This one is attached to a walmart, there is free 2 hour garage parking in the same building. I got the the bbq, bacon, chedder burger with a chocolate reese's shake while Feem got the spinach, goat cheese, cucumber burger with balsamic vinegar. I got the large burger which is close to 1/2 lb, it was a good size very filling. The service was good and the place was very clean. My complaint is that the bbq sauce was barely noticeable and the fried onions on the top seemed kinda skimpy (see attached picture), which is surprising considering that the burger is a good size. The burger itself tasted good, the toppings held together throughout the meal but I didn't see anything to differentiate this burger from any of the others in the area. I didn't try Feem's food but he loved it and would have easily given it 4 stars. I would definitely come back to try the goat cheese spinach cucumber burger.

I think it is a good place if you are hungry and want to have a burger but do not want to go to a McDonald. It is a reasonably clean place, although the trash was full, and they could clean the tables more frequently. I found the price to be on the more expensive side...

Maybe 3 and a half stars? This was my first experience with Smashburger, and I liked it well enough to give it a second try. I stopped in around 7:30pm on a weeknight, to get takeout. There was a modest line at ordering, but it moved reasonably quickly. I was definitely NOT impressed with the clerk doing the ordering! She was polite and friendly, but had me repeat my order 3 times, slowly, and she still managed to leave the cheese off my order! It was nothing complicated: A regular create-your-own burger, with blue cheese, bacon, red onion, lettuce, and mayo, plus a regular side of smash fries and a bottle of water. Not rocket science -- I was quite sorry not to get cheese on my burger. So they lose a half-star for that. And maybe another half-star, because I feel like at these prices, you should be able to order your burger cooked to your preferred level of doneness. Price for my order came to $11 and change. All that being said, even cooked very well-done, they make a GOOD flavorful burger. Surprisingly juicy for how well-done it's cooked. Crisp fresh tasting toppings. And the bacon they use is excellent -- a VERY thick cut hearty bacon, and they give you plenty of it. The smashfries are super thin-cut crispy shoestring fries, dusted with salt, pepper, and garlic and very generously dressed in olive oil ... greasy, but delicious. The regular sized burger and fries were a plentiful meal for me. My food came out fairly quickly the night I was there, though I got the sense they might struggle at peak hours to keep up with a crowd. There's convenient free short term parking - something like 30 or 45 minutes -- right outside the door, which was great for getting take-out. I'm interested to try some other things from the menu, and some other locations, too -- but my first impression of Smashburger is generally quite positive.

So, this was one of the best fast food burgers I have had in a very long time. The Guy and I were having a stay-cation in the Northern Virginia area and were were staying near this place. We ordered using the Yelp App and headed to pick up the food. I ordered the Capital Burger with guacamole added to it. It was simply awesome. I enjoyed every morsel of it. The Guy had to get his bacon barbeque burger. His burger was equally as good. We ordered a side of Smash fries and a regular fry as well as a side order of fried pickles. The Smash fries were ok, but nothing special. And the fried pickles were just plain salty. And I love me a fried pickle. I actually threw some of them away. For the most part, I loved their food. Food was not as greasy as Five Guys and just as good. We are planning another stay-cation in the area, I know we will pick up Smashburger again!! It was quite delicious!! Ps, ordered in advance; food was waiting when we got there to pick it up!!

The burger was perfectly well done. I got the regular burger and it was definitely worth the price and appetite. Great customer service.

The bacon cheese burger hit the spot and the skinny fries are a perfect compliment. Service was great and fast, especially for lunch time. I would go there again and try their chicken sandwiches.

Avery was SUPER friendly! I loved how energetic, positive, and cordial this employee was, and I value this restaurant as more than just one of the others. She delivered my food on a tray to my table, asked me if I needed anything else at all to complete my meal, and made eye contact and smiled. She also later took away my finished plates and encouraged me to order a shake when I mentioned that I had room for dessert! When I decided against it, I thanked her and she thanked me for coming and wished me a pleasant parting greeting. Her positive attitude truly reflects the essence of Smashburger. The food was spectacular! The Baja Smashchicken was fresh, nicely seasoned, hot, and delicious! The Smashfries, which have a delicious rosemary sprinkle, were crispy, hot, fresh, and lip-smacking good! This restaurant truly stands out among its counterparts, and I am eager to return, tell all my friends and family, and spread the word that this is where they should go for excellent food, superior customer service, and knowledgeable staff.

I live near this Smashburger and I came to Yelp to give them 5 stars for their wonderful customer service! From our entrance to the time we left, the girl upfront was vibrant, funny and friendly. They forgot to give us a charge for extra set of friends and the guy came from the kitchen very apologetic and gave us the fries for free. He too, was as friendly as one can be. The burgers are always so delicious, and the skinny fries are always hot and crispy.

Being a burger snob, I looked forward to trying this place out. Pros - burger has great flavor. Fries are thin and crispy. Cons - too expensive for the portion size. I judge burger places basically like this. Would I rather go to Five Guys, or eat here? I think Five Guys is the best fast food burger chain in the area. While I WOULD rather go to Five Guys than this place, I really did like the taste of my meal here. I wouldn't be against eating here again, just not going to go out of my way for it. If the price came down, or I got as much food as there was in the pictures on the wall, I'd easily give this place more stars.

We were at the Sheraton for a convention and this Smashburger is just a short walk away, so we decided to try it one evening for dinner. I thought this location was pretty average as far as Smashburger locations go, except they gave me more Smashfries. A lot more Smashfries. Tried the Capitol Burger and it was loaded with bacon, which I'm now wondering if it's a commentary on politics in the DC area. :) Anyway, service was pretty good and the food and ambiance are good enough, so I'm happy.

Capital Burger $7 (3/5 NOMs) Hulk made my burger! There is a new burger place in Tyson corner and we are there to try it. At this chain every location has a region specific burger and so we were hungry for DC specific one. Loving the price, you get a lot of burger for such a low price. Big fan of the brioche bun and tone of cheese. Overall good burger, but not sure if it truly represent DC region. More of a laid back kind of a burger with not much crazy going on. Grilled onions, aged swiss, baby arugula, tomatoes, and of course bacon. I don't know, it didn't really have a wow flavor we have come to expect in this burger crazy world. We are known for more crazy things. Its still a good burger you won't be wrong ordering and can't wait to try more things here.

Had lunch with a friend here. Got there around 11:45am so we beat the rush. I would recommend doing the same as it definitely gets crowded into the lunch hour. They have plenty of options for burgers and the smallest size is plenty for one person. I also got the fries which were delicious. They were shoestring fries and they seasoned them with some delicious garlic. The burger itself was also great. I got the bacon cheeseburger which was huge (even though I got the small size!). The food was brought out to our table and the waitstaff was very friendly. I was definitely expecting chain fast food but this surpassed my expectations! I may have to check out the smash burger in the city some time!

Ok I LOVE the food here. Fries are good, love the burgers. But the service... Holy crap the service here is SO. SLOW. and every single time I come here they always forget some part of my order between the resister and the kitchen, which I don't understand because ITS PRINTED ON THE RECEIPT. They're always understaffed on Friday nights and it takes forever to place an order or get your food. It's a shame cause the place is tasty and a good price, but dang son get it together already!

I don't eat burgers often because the latest burger joints are overhyped and overpriced. The burgers here though, remind me of the burgers at the Tom Wahl chain located in upstate NY, which I love. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger with Truffle Mayo and a side of Haystack onions. This joint allows you to add free add-ons such as lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, etc. similar to Five Guys. I added grilled onions to my burger. This is one of their specialty burgers which comes with an egg bun, but there are other bun options such as brioche. The burger was very tasty and moist, but the onions were skimpy and I mentioned this to the dude who delivered my food. He at first said that it's the portion size that they come in, but later, he brought me another order of onions saying the cook often eyeballs the amount when prepping. The dipping sauce that comes with the onions looks like the sauce for a bloomin' onion, but it tasted very acidic. Next time, I will stick to the smash fries (thin cut fries tossed in thyme, olive oil, and garlic. After I was done eating, I was not that full. I think if this chain wants to make sure people are full, they need to up the portion size of the sides like what Five Guys does with their fries.

I wanted to try Smashburger without being too unhealthy, so I went for the grilled chicken sandwich with goat cheese. It was fine, like a less good Chick-fil-a Chargrilled Chicken sandwich, but nothing special. I shouldn't complain too much when I ordered grilled chicken at a place specializing in burgers, but it was just so blah, that I don't want to go back and try anything else. Their fries were thin and crispy, which I don't care for, but I know some people enjoy that sort of thing. I couldn't help but compare Smashburger to my beloved Burger 7, which is not too far away and has a similar menu with more delicious options for the health conscious. Smashburger had the same atmosphere, but the food wasn't as good. Nothing was terrible at Smashburger, but I don't plan to go back.

Decided to try this place out since I've heard only great things about it through friends. Upon arrival there weren't too many people dining and there was only a man in front of us ordering. When it was our time to order we were greeted by the cashier. I told her this was our first time here and wanted to get recommended a few things. Her responses was "everything is good on the menu". After that response I just ordered my meal quickly. I felt as if she hated working there. We ordered the Create your own burger with, -Bacon -Guacamole -Lettuce -Tomato -Red onion -Ketchup with original fries on the side The burger wasn't spectacular, I felt like it was lacking flavor. The only thing I really enjoyed out of the meal was the fries. & Spicy Baja which had, -Fresh Jalepenos, -Guacamole -pepper jack -lettuce -tomato -onion -chipotle mayo on a spicy chipotle bun. The burger tasted really bland and not at all spicy. I don't think I'll come back here for my burger craving. Service was bad and food was bland imo.

Definitely not a fan of the price but the food is pretty good. We had a burger, fries, and drink which will set you back at least $10/person. On top of that the portions aren't going to really quench your hunger so be prepared to order a little extra food. I certainly would not come here if you are really hungry and on a tight budget, then again, you're in Tysons Corner do that's probably not a problem. Our drinking cups were dirty so we exchanged the cups for disposable paper cups. My daughter and wife love the sweet potato fries here, and while I enjoyed the flavor pods the Smash Fries, I'm not such a big fan of the thin shoestring fries. Employees seemed pretty nice and even though wr went after the lunch rush on a rainy Saturday afternoon, the tables didn't seem that clean. So be prepared to run to the bathroom for some wet paper towels. Bathrooms were nice and clean though.

Everytime I pass by SB me thinks, "Hulk, smash!!!" - uhem, tmi. But finally before I stepped into Walmart I decided to grab a bite since my belly grumbled (when does it not). Since I'm a virgin to their eats I smashed everything - classic smashburger and smashfries. Excluding the cheese (since I'll have peeps walking behind me in Walmart) the smashburger ganged up a smashed angus cow with ketchup, lettuce, pickles, purple onions, and smash sauce. Tomatoes were included but I chew on those separately since they tend to wet these creations unnecessarily. Did I mention they're rounded up on a sliced egg bun? If you look at the #foodporn the smash sauce is related to many of those "orange" special condiments out there. The power of mayo. Flavorful and worthy as a topic. Now if you're fond of the thinly cut frite-style fries, then smashfries will tickle your fancy. These starches are socially tossed with rosemary, olive oil, and sexy garlic. But be forewarned - finish 'em up stat or they can function as painful toothpicks. Speaking of toothpicks, thank ye for having them available near the fountain drinks. I heart folks like you and Chipotle that pimp these wooden flosses - so necessary especially if you have more pounding on pavement to do after the nommage. For the better half, I spied Coke Zero and Dr. Pepper fountain drinks so yeah, SB will be on repeat.

We came here last night and the food along with the service were good. Today though they see woefully unprepared for traffic resulting from a convention in an adjacent hotel. Would be good to be in tune with the convention schedule in order to staff up and prepare. For a single order the wait was in excess of 40 minutes.

Clean and New facility however so far a pretty bad start. Cashiers are unprofessional and very slow. It didn't seem like they knew how to use the system and took forever. Plus didn't receive my drink cup. Hopefully the food makes up for it UPDATE: Besides the incompetent cashiers, the food and manager made up for it DEFINITELY. I go the mushroom truffle burger and it was super juicy and flavorful. I'm a sucker for anything truffle and it was a very profound in taste in the burger. Fries are really good and crunchy. You get a choice between a small and big size. Overall, I was pleased with the burger here and definitely would come back... just please get better cashiers next time!

We got a BBQ cheddar and bacon burger, Avocado club burger, and sweet potato fries. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. Both the burgers did not have any flavor at all. The worst flavorless patties we ever had! The sweet potato fries were also flavorless. I had to put on extra salt just to give it more flavor. We didn't finish our burgers and we ended up going to shake shack afterwards. (We were craving burgers!) Not going back there again!

A completely worthwhile place to get a burger, but nothing special. Dropped in for dinner and got the capital burger with smash fries. Burger was pretty good and came out nice and hot. However, the fries, which are shoestring cut and tossed with olive oil and seasoning, had clearly been sitting for a while, which was a letdown. When one of your biggest selling points is that you're cooking burgers fresh to order--and you make your employees regurgitate your freshness-themed mottos with every order they take--you should probably make sure the fries are fresh too. Also, the seasoning was pretty scarce, even if fresh I doubt these things could hold a candle to the village fries at Good Stuff. Combining the old fries with the weird traffic pattern, slew of walmart shoppers crowding the parking lot, and the fact that there's a Burger 7 right down the road, I don't think I'll be back. Life is too short for mediocre burger joints, especially around here.

I loved the burger I had, the fries were great, and they have three types of Honest Tea as a fountain beverage. I will totally go back when I get the chance!

I love the skinny fries that they have here like they give you at Sweetwater's. Apparently, according to the reviews, not everyone does. The burger was pretty good too. Pretty fairly priced, especially compared to Shake Shack or Big Buns.

I've been enjoying my free Smashburger so I cant really complain. However, just a few minor gripes prevented me from fully enjoying it. -On two separate occasions I asked for no mayo and still received mayo in my burger. Lots of it. -After getting food there a number of times, I've decided the salads, while filling, are only good with dressing on the side. for all the salads, they slather on the dressing which ruins it for me. -Greasy. Ok, yes I know burgers are greasy but when the burger bun is merely a grease catcher for the burger I have to think twice about eating it.

Worst service ever!!! Cashier was a mumbling fool that couldn't be understood. It was 845pm all chairs in dining area where up. Side door locked. Pretty sure that's a fire code violation. Save your money for something else!

Let me preface this by saying that in my eyes, 5 guys & Good Stuff are my FAVE burger places so it is pretty hard to top those for me. When it comes to customer service, this place should get 5 stars!!! Everyone is SO friendly and helpful here. If I was rating them on just their guacamole alone, then it would also be 5 stars! They fall short on the burgers and fries - I am not a fan of smashed butter burgers....there was just way too much bread on my burger. The smash fries were a bit too oily for me too. The chicken cobb salad was good but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here to satisfy my next burger craving.

Nicely seared, but juicy, burgers in a toasted butter bun. Top notch fries that work well if drizzled with burger drippings. Will go back.

This is was my second experience at Smashburger but first time at this location. This one is much nicer than the location in Fairfax. It was very clean and spacious. The staff at the register wasn't very enthusiastic or friendly at all. He seemed very unamused by his job. I asked if the fries were large enough to share between 2 people since they don't have any sizes listed and he answered me with a monotone unhelpful response. The burger was good, but the smash fries are tiny little shoe string fries that are soaked in olive oil, I didn't care for them too much. One thing that made me absolutely ecstatic though was the vitamin water at the soda fountain! Free refills on vitamin water is like my dream come true! I may return just for the beverage...

I work nearby this place and a couple of friends suggested we go for lunch and I have to say this place is awesome. - the things I loved and you should try are; any milkshake! They have amazing milkshakes and they are addicting! - the burgers are also (duh) fantastic, I am kind of boring so I don't like much on my burger, but the burger was delicious and tasty! - Sweet potato Fries (extra), they are delicious and go really well with everything! In Closing; Great Service, Great Food, Amazing milkshakes, Sweet Potato Fries!

I've been twice. Here's the problem: the only way you can get a burger is, about 1/4" thick and thoroughly gray. Well done. No other option. Sure, the toppings are tasty, but if you want to taste meat, this is not the place.

04/20/14 review update 4:30pm: Shift Manager and Cashier was very accommodating, polite and friendly. I ordered the avocado chicken club...it was delicious but i forgot to add a fried egg so most likely that would've be divine. Smash Fries never fails my taste buds...its seasoned with rosemary if not mistaken. Oreo Milk shake ia definitely a must have. Place was sanitary and very inviting compared to the last time I dined in. It gets costly when you add on items...so far for a burger with what i want in it and additional side fries it cost me $13 ----------------------- A month ago review: I gave two star due to the reason of... Employees need more sanitary practice and manners...i was waiting for my order and they were just coming in and out the kitchen with their aprons hanged on their shoulder and the other person was dragging it from the floor, and they even were speaking louder than customers and wait was there music in the background because i couldnt hear it... They were also speaking to each other with foul language. Also, i work across the building and I order my food to go because the place smells like they need more vent...it just smells too meaty...so i dont want that smell clingin on my office attire. Regarding food....the smash and sweet potato fries are delicious. The onion haystack was just a mess...but i like the avocado burger Their bunless burger is not presentably appetizing. I was thinking they would serve it like in and out's protein style burger where they wrap the lettuce around the burger but no...they just had it in a container like salad.

Great service. Super yummy burgers! Fries are thin and crunchy. We ordered a shake with 2 extra cups and they split it into three small cups for us without asking. Really exceptional staff at this location.

I visited this burger joint about a month ago and the experience was so memorable and not in a good way, I'm here reviewing it. I wanted to SMASH my burger after this experience. The cashier was absolutely rude and wasn't happy about working there . She was stating it to other of her colleagues. The burger was not great. The beef patties were falling apart on the side and the fries, the smashfries! Cold and McDonald's quality. Never again!

Hubby and I had lunch here. Waited 15-20 minutes for order to arrive. He had Bacon Cheeseburger and I had the Classic Smash burger. Neither of us took more than 2 bites. Meat was bone dry, very thin and almost black from over cooking. Disgusting. Manager said all the burgers were that thin because they're "smashed", but agreed they were overdone. He was expediting the food as it came out of the kitchen, so why did he let them go out? Offered to replace them but didn't want to wait that long again. Gave us coupons but will pass them on. Who wants a 3mm thick burger? Won't be returning.

Didn't even get to order. .. and left so hangry. This is not a review of their food but of their "management." I went to this location today around 12:45 PM after my coworker planted a burger seed in my head. Cravin' and ready, I parked upstairs and got in line - about 12 ppl ahead of me. I knew exactly what I wanted ::Smashburger:: and was excited since now, there were only 5 ppl ahead of me. Then the line just stopped. 10 minutes later, the cashier told the guy in the front of the line that they were really backed up and it would be awhile. An angry patron went up to one of the workers, Mark, and started to say something, but then was interrupted by a man in a black shirt who seemed to be the manager. The angry patron told the man in the black shirt to not talk because, "I wasn't talking to you." and decided to cancel his order that he had been waiting for.. for over 15 minutes. The ladies in front of me then went up to Mark and asked him what was going on. He said that they got a large order and the kitchen was backed up so they had to stop the line. He kept saying, "I understand your frustration" (Customer Service 101), but we told him that the manager should tell us in line. I asked him if the backup was 4 burgers or 40 burgers. He said there was an influx of about 21 burgers and they should be ready in about 10 minutes. The ladies in front of me decided to stay but myself and the entire line behind me left. If you are going to open a location in Tysons, where it is the hub of so many headquarters in the DMV area, you better be ready to serve at lunch. Everyone is on a usual 1 hour break and do not have extra time. What irked me the most was the manager. The entire time, he was picking up the orders, making sure they were correct. Did he not see that there was a full line to the door behind him, or people that were just waiting and waiting. He should have at least explained what was going on. A quick, "Hello folks. Unfortunately the kitchen is backed up right now with many phone orders and it will be about another 15 minutes before we can take orders.." or something. Some kind of acknowledgement. Maybe it is because they just opened and didn't expect all these hungry customers, but as a manager, you cannot leave your patrons waiting and guessing why there are no cashiers but the place is still open. Will I be back for a burger? Maybe in a couple months. Hopefully then, they will work out the kinks and get their process in place.

First timers. Baja cobb salad with chicken - enormous salad with a chipotle dressing. So good Truffle swiss mushroom chicken sandwich. Each bite taken came with such flavor and ooh and ahh. Nutter butter chocolate oreo shake - heaven in your mouth. Will definitely come back. Made it five stars for honoring military discount and also letting us use a coupon!

I really like this place for a burger joint. The Baja salad with chicken is really good. Got a strawberry shake too and that was amazing as well. Fries are shoestring which is ok but not a wow item.

I'm not a regular eater or connoisseur of burgers, but I mainly go for one when i rarely crave for it. After a long day at the office, stopped by for a quick bite in tysons..was going to get a quickie at Noodles n Co but looked right and saw a Moby Dick and was on the fence until I saw #smashburger in the middle..i can get Noodles or Moby at anytime so SB is new and fresh so why not! Love me some bacon cheeseburger, so went for the (smallest size) BBQ Bacon Cheddar burger with the haystack onions on top and a side of shoestring fries (side items are mostly a la carte)...so delish!!! The bbq sauce put the burger on another level and the fries were almost perfect (could be a little hotter...but still good!) Can't wait to go again! Solid 3.5* only because access and getting out sucks because of the traffic lights controlling turns under the metrorail above and limited free parking (again because of metro). Only one way out and you have to loop around to get back to rt7 intersection.

This is my first time ever eating at a Smashburger and it was only alright for me. The burgers seemed to have all fresh ingredients. I can't imagine the size of the 'big' burger because the regular size was more than enough food for me. I'm more of a fan of thicker cut fries and theirs were almost shoestring. I don't like rosemary, so I didn't try the Smashfries. Although the fries were too skinny for me, they were good and crispy. My burger was very juicy and super messy. The spicy baja burger is only spicy because of the jalapeños. They did put a lot of guacamole on my burger and for that I am very thankful - I do love the guac!

I've only gotten the Capital burger, but I think you can never go wrong with a classic . This is one of the newer locations in the area for Smashburger, and it seems to be doing well. Located in the Walmart center, there's ample parking for all prospective customers. Get in line, look at the menu, order up at the counter from the friendly staff, and grab a seat while you wait for your order to be brought to you. There is actually a huge amount of combinations you can choose from on the menu, everything from traditional hamburgers, to more exotic ones, to chicken sandwiches, even a vegetarian option. Add to that the glorious amount of free and premium toppings you can select from (gotta love those jalapenos and onions), and you have a great amount of freedom in designing your burger to your taste. Yes, America. The burger bun is sturdy enough to hold onto everything that is going on in between, the patty is juicy enough and flavorful, and the toppings are fresh. Oh, I recommended at least trying out the Smash sauce on your first visit (it's like a ketchup/mayo/TI mix) to see if you like it. I also recommend trying the Smashfries - fries tossed in rosemary and garlic - for the full experience. Overall, I'm really impressed with Smashburger - they have an upscale In-N-Out feel, and I think they've got a lot of promise if they can keep the experience factor up.

I love burgers. I had always seen others post pictures of delicious burgers in their eye catching, paper lined baskets. When I found out it was Smashburger and only a mile from my office building, I knew I had to bookmark this place. I came to Smashburger at 12PM on a Thursday, and it was surprisingly not as crowded as I anticipated. There were still a bunch of seats left open and the line was only a few people long--not something you would be able to find easily at a restaurant during lunch given all the office buildings in the area. After careful investigation through Yelp reviews, I decided on the regular Capital Burger and the sweet potato fries. My meal came out to a little under $10, and they gave me a number sign to put at my table to deliver my food to me later. My meal came out hot, fresh, and with the vibrant colors from the tomato, lettuce, and text-covered parchment paper, definitely exciting to look at as well. However, Smashburger probably looks better in the instagrams than it tastes. While the burger definitely satisfied my burger craving, I found the meat patty to be a little on the thin side and actually kind of tough--not as juicy as I anticipated it to be. The mayo on the burger was pretty heavy, which I didn't really mind because I like mayo, but with the swiss cheese, each bite had a really creamy, almost over-powering, flavor, as if the flavor ratios were off in the burger. The grilled onions were probably the weirdest part. I love onions in general and eat a lot of them, but every time I bit something crunchy in the burger, I kept on second guessing myself whether or not it was actually onion--it wasn't as soft or caramelized as you would expect a grilled onion to be but also not sharp like a raw onion would be. The arugula was a great touch, though, and added an extra peppery flavor to the burger. The bun was nice and soft. The sweet potato fries were probably the crunchiest sweet potato fries I've ever had, but surprisingly enough, they didn't have as strong of a sweet potato flavor as I would have expected. So they were good as fries, but not really sweet potato fries... Service was great. The shift manager who delivered our meals was super friendly and even came to check up on us later. I really enjoyed the fast-casual aspect of this place. Overall, Smashburger was kind of disappointing and not everything I thought it would be. I think I'll be back in the future, however, to give it another chance. Next time I'll try their classic burger and a side of regular fries.

First visit to Smashburger. Good menu with lots of choices. Just had big size bacon and cheese with avocado slices. It came out within minutes and was a huge patty (not a double as I expected). Cooked to correct temp and all the standard trimmings we there along with my requested addition of sliced avocado. While I hold Five Guys as my personal favorite (for taste), the fact you have so many options to customize a burger here, this will give them some competition. Highly recommend Smashburger!

Since Smash Burger officially opens today!!! I went to a Yelp tasting event last night and this is what I think of the stuff we had. (This is a copy of the review for the actual event, edited for the actual restaurant.) The sides... fried pickles (my favorite), sweet potato fries (a close second), smash fries, and onion haystacks. So the pickles are a weakness of mine. I adore them and am also pretty picky on how they are treated. These passed the test. I appreciate that they weren't soggy. The sweet tater fries were cooked perfectly. I hate when they get greasy and doggy and blah. These still had a nice snap to them when you took a bite, I would love a little sauce with them. Maybe a little maple something? The smash fries... good, these seemed to be a favorite with everyone, I found them to be a bit greasy but tasty none the less. The haystacks... these were awesome as a burger topping... but not my favorite as a side. They lacked a little onion flavor and left me really craving an onion ring. My very quick over view of the burgers. The Classic Smash, yum, juicy yumminess with a bit too much mustard. BBQ Bacon and Cheddar, up there in the top three I tasted. I would love some more BBQ sauce on it though. Truffle Mushroom Swiss - look, I don't really care for mushrooms and I adored this burger. Practically perfect in every way. The Capital, the regional burger, basically a bacon cheeseburger with a little baby arugula, there was something about that argali that just MADE this burger!! Order it, you won't be sorry. Spicy Veggie Black Bean Burger, I was really excited to try this one for no other reason than I love black beans. It's spicy, it lives up to its name, the flavors were great and it really had a lot of freshness to it. I think the patty was a bit on the dry side though. If I could change one thing about this burger, it would be the thick slice of jalapeno on the top. There is one sliced round and it is super thick, this leaves you with one REALLY spicy bite. It would be great if the jalapenos were chopped up and sprinkled over the top so you have some even spiciness action. The Classic Chicken was good. It's your typical chicken sandwich but I'll give Smash Burger credit, they keep that chicken moist. (I hate that word) The Avocado Club Chicken was amazing. There is something about avocado that makes everything better. Outside of the Capital and Mushroom burger... this was one of my favorites. We tasted the hand spun milkshakes as well... I liked the Oreo shake but lets be honest here, the salted caramel shake was the show stealer. I could drink that thing all day every day!! PS... this place is new... and Apple Maps doesn't think that it exists yet. Google Maps can find it... but in case you want to know, it's right next to Wal-Mart!

I am so disappointed that I was lead here by yelpers. The menu seemed good but the quality wasn't great. The burgers were delivered 2 minutes after we ordered them, so they weren't cooked to order like 5 Guys and Big Buns... The service was the best part, happy employees. The bread was ok, the toppings (lettuce/avacado/tomatoe) were fresh except for the bacon, the patty was greasy. Don't care for string fries. Yelpers, this is NOT a 5-star burger joint!

I had never been to smashburger before, but enjoy five guys, BGR, elevation burger, Bobby's burger palace, and in and out. I was skeptical about what differentiates this from those locations or even Kraze burger that just opened down the road, as well as the fact that five guys hq is in DC. I even asked and was told about the smashing process the deals in the juices, the toppings, the quality of the meat and buns. I would assume all of the aforementioned locations would say something similar. They did come through here though and in a big way! The way the ingredients are put together as combos and the quality of everything was great. They aren't even that massive but because the meat is cooked so well with butter and juicy it is just perfect. I also think their price point is great at $7 for each and every burger. Most of the other burger places mentioned have tons of add on costs. Here you can have a burger with thick applewood bacon, guacamole, fried onion strings and more all for the same price. Even the beer is reasonably priced! So as far as specifics the mushroom burger is excellent with the truffle oil. The one with bacon and BBQ and onion strings is heartier and amazing. The Baja or veggie burger is great with the chipotle In the bun and spicy mayo and guacamole. The chicken seems boring but is actually shockingly soft and tasty as a good healthy option that you can get with any of the topping combinations. The capital burger is decent just not nearly as good as some of the others. Apparently they offer one local burger and we don't have anything distinct about the DC area. The sides are also good with different kinda of fries. I really love fried pickles with beer, ranch, and a burger. You don't see that too often at fast food places. The smash fries have just a nice light rosemary and Olive oil flavor to the shoestring fries that I liked. The beer selection is small but includes a local lager and IPA that are good as well as Stella. The salads are humongous and tasty as well with the chicken. Especially if you like blue cheese the Cobb is great. They even partner with Haagen Dazs and have some indulgent tasty shakes. Overall I would definitely check this place out and choose it over the other burger places unless I was really hankering for the huge bag of Five Guys fries or a shake from Shake shack or a super thick burger.

I can't speak for the burgers because have not eaten one here but SmashBurger has great salads! I know, I know, who goes to a burger place for salads?? Well...I do! They give you a large, filling serving of greens topped with warm, deliciously marinated chicken (and a fried egg if getting the regular Cobb salad). And it's cheap relative to all the other salad places around town. Would recommend!

Everything was just as I expected and as good as it looks. Quick service and friendly staff. Food was above average, good burger and tasty fries. All cooked fresh so it was nice and juicy when it arrived at my table. Quality was above fast food, so I didn't mind paying a little more for it. Very enjoyable and quick meal. I will definitely be back.

I am not a burger girl at all, and I practically forgot what burgers tasted like until I came here. I can tell you that every single burger I tried here during the sampling is amazing. All burgers are smashed to perfection so the juices stay in the meat (I even went in the back kitchen to witness the process myself), and each burger is prepared to perfection with the temperature of the burger measured in three different areas. What I love most about Smashburger is that they get that people don't only eat red meat. They have a nice selection of chicken burgers (that compete with Chick Fil A, and that's pretty legit for me), as well as a spicy black bean burrito that tastes so fresh you won't know which awesome ingredient hit you, but you'll want more! There are also AMAZING salads for those of you who want more of the greens than the meat (you can choose to add chicken on if you'd like). I'm going to let you in on a little secret...THERE IS A SURPRISE MENU. The menu includes FRICKLES. You're welcome. There are also SO many different sides to choose from - sweet potato fries, smash fries, and onion rings are what I sampled. They are all crispy and thin, but not super greasy. The shakes complete the meal. The salted caramel was my favorite to try. You just can't go wrong with those flavors, and Smashburger knew how to spin it just right. So Smashburgers are popping up all over the DMV, but this location is RIGHT next to the new silver metro line at Tyson's. I saw the test train go by while I sat here nomming. Perfection!

Went on a Sunday evening. There were very few people there. Anyway, got a butterfinger shake, sweet potato fries, mushroom truffle burger and jalapeno avocado burger. The butterfinger shake was very refreshing. Little chunks of butterfingers inside. They even gave me the rest of the metal cup to refill my shake..its like getting 2 shakes for the price of 1! The sweet potato fries..were sweet. I do wish that when I put salt on them, it sticks to the fries..but oh well. Burgers were tasty and juicy. Well made! Service was prompt and courteous. I would recommend this to others! However, parking on a weekday may be a bit bothersome. Parking was free on Sunday.

Damn I'm stupid, I came back here a second time because I thought it couldn't be as bad as the first time- I was wrong. Same 'can't-be bothered-staff' and every single table was piled with trash. Only five table actually being used and had to ask for a table to be cleared so we could sit down somewhere. This place is disgraceful.

I got the baja burger. When I dug in wad surprised that it was as advertised and was actually spicy. They also used fresh jalapeños which I was presently surprised. The bread was nice and fresh. But since the burgers are smashed they were pretty dry and had a weird taste. I won't be coming back again. Burger joint week be my place.

My Family just left this location. When I asked where my burger was 25 minutes after my wife and kids' food came out.... The staff MOCKED me!!! My burger finally came out 30 minutes since the order was placed... and it was not what I ordered. The GM came out to apologize and obviously has no control over his staff as they continued to mock me. It was horrible. Now.... The Bethesda location is awesome! Nothing but positive stuff going on there.

I was pleasantly surprised with my first Smashburger experience. I had very little expectations for it, and was surprised and glad to find a burger that not only tasted pretty good, but was pretty reasonably priced as well. I played it safe and ordered the Classic Smash. While I asked for the regular size, the woman behind the counter misheard me and put it in for the big. I'm kind of glad she did because while the burger was tasty, even being "big" it wasn't all that large. I guess it's called Smashburger because they literally smash the burger down to a really thin patty, which while it tastes good, isn't all that satisfying to the grumbling stomach. Definitely need an option for a double burger here. I didn't order any side dishes such as french fries or onion rings - or as they call it, a Haystack onion, so I was still kind of hungry after my experience at Smashburger. The food was good, but location wise, it's a hassle. It's in a tucked away shopping center that has a Walmart crammed in, and most of the parking is only available in a garage. So convenience factor is way out the door for this place, and for that fact alone it pretty much means I won't be going back to Smashburger any time soon.

Nice, clean burger place. The cashier was nice. My husband and I stopped by for a quick lunch before heading to Tyson's Corner. The food came out in a few mins. I ordered the classic burger and sweet potato fries. The classic burger was juicy and the thin cut crispy sweet potatoes were delicious! I would eat here again.

Fantastic burgers and chicken sandwiches. The smash fries are the best!. The kids really enjoy the place and being walking distance we go 2x/month. Not the healthiest but it is a burger joint that stands out along the flood of new burger joints that have spring up.

  • Adam S.

Their burgers are so so but their salads are moderately decent. Only reason I would go here is because I work nearby and it is below where my gym is. Lunch time gets packed and it is hard to find a table to sit in. It's better if you just get it to-go.

Clean establishment. Friendly service. I had the Classic Mash which is your run of the mill burger. It was juicy and not greasy. Bun was toasted and again - not greasy. I got the sweet potato fries and it was great! Big serving, I barely finished half. Crunchy, lightly seasoned. No complaints from me. My friend got the regular fries. They were shoestring and crunchy. However, they tasted off. Like it was cooked in old, dirty oil off. She ate a few and that was it. Next time, I'll try the shakes. A lot of patrons ordered so must be good. The service was on point! We were checked on twice after food was delivered. Tables were cleaned off promptly. Friendly people a plus!

It's reviews like these that makes me wish that yelp had half stars...I hate to give this a 3, but It definitely didn't meet the standards of a 4. Ordered the spicy Baja. I asked for the jalapenos to be grilled before they put them on the burger so it wouldn't be as spicy...The guy taking my order didn't know how to do that, and it took him probably 3 minutes to figure out how to make a note to "grill spcy pepper"...Needles to say the jalapenos came out raw. The spicy sauce on the side seemed to be really vineagery...I think it was supposed to be a chipotle sauce, but all I could taste was vinegar. The oreo shake was good, service after we sat was phenomenal, and the onion straws were decent. All in all not bad, but not the best burger place in town.

Like some others on Yelp, I just do not understand the rave reviews. This was my first visit to SB and I have to say that I was very disappointed. First the positives...The brioche bun was good , the ingredients all seemed to be fresh and the french fries, though they were shoestring style, were cooked very well and tasty. Now the negative: The burger was a flat irregular version of McD. My daughter and I both ordered bleu cheese on the burger and I have to say the three or four little crumbles were hardly detectible when eating. When I order a cheeseburger, I expect there to be CHEESE on it. I also ordered raw onion and lettuce which were manifested by two little onion rings and LITERALLY one thin lettuce leaf. The burger was greasy and tasteless which is surprising considering the whopping load of salt that was evident on the first bite. Two burgers, two fries, two drinks were a bit more than $20. I would have been better off at Fosters Grille or Clydes. One more note-management did come over a couple of times to see if everything was OK. I think the staff is very nice, but the food leaves a lot to be desired.

Very good burger joint, chain or otherwise. The toppings are premium. My Mushroom Truffle and Swiss burger was perfect with a leaf of Lettuce. The french fries are arguably the best I've had in a very long time. Generally speaking: the food was divine. I won't say that they're the best burger joint I've ever been to, but they're definitely well up there, and I'd suggest that they're definitely the best $10 Lunch spot I've been to in quite awhile. The only downside is not the food or the staff...it's the location. When the small center they're located in starts charging for parking I highly doubt I'll be back unless they start validating or otherwise finding a way to include parking. I understand the need to charge with Metro opening right across the street, but the parking charge will be enough to make it expensive enough that I would probably go get an inferior product somewhere else. It'd push the cost beyond my $10 lunch limit. Finally, the interior space isn't large enough to handle the amount of business I expect they plan to do. They either need more "stand and wait for your food" space, or more seating space, but either way the three times I tried to go to the restroom while I was in the restaurant there was a line. I ended up just stopping in Wal Mart on the way out.

Okay, first of all Yelp has got to allow us the benefit of 1/2 stars because this place really deserves a 3 & 1/2 star rating overall. Been here twice already in as many months and both times solidly good: burgers are seasoned, generous in size, and on an egg bread bun. Fries are thin - very thin. Not my kind of French fries, but appeal to many. The layout flows rather well and those ordering or getting their after-ordering drinks do not encumber those people already seated. Staff is courteous and brings you your order when it is ready. Although seating is plenty enough, the place tends to fill up rather quickly around lunch time. And, as the joint is located next door to a WalMart, parking is easy to find. Prices are decent and two can have the usual lunch burger, fries and a drink meal for about $13.50. Also, however much the gesture is appreciated, Smashburger staff do not takes tips.

Burger joints need to be clean (i.e.) inviting, possess a simple menu and tasty with good customer service. For those who do not want to spend an arm on BRG at Tyson's mall or want a Ruth's Chris Steak for lunch, Smashmouth is a great lunch time eatery. Their trade marked smash burger is a classic and the first burger I tried. Great meat with the special smash sauce. The meat itself is flat and not the typical round shape (which tells me it wasn't put through the crappy grinder of meats). If you're expecting a perfectly shaped meat patty, go elsewhere. Regardless, the burger simply doesn't need anything more than lettuce tomato and onion. Juicy and flavorful with little to no grease. Their smash fries are a must taste, albeit on the oily side. It could very well be the garlic. The garlic was definitely not overpowering and does not leave a bad smell in your mouth. String fries which you can easily insert into the burger (highly recommend). Clean establishment with attentive servers.

I usually love Smash burger just not this location. If I'm up that way then I may head to this location but I prefer others instead. This location is tiny and can become pretty crowded, pretty fast. Service isn't super fast and sometimes the registers don't work. Got a meal here before and it was okay but once, I ordered fries and I watched as they just sat on the counter! So by the time they got to me, well cold fries..yuck. I know they are busy but I don't want to be served cold anything. Sent them back and they made the fries again and hot, so it was better. Also one day I went in with my family to get lunch and the bathrooms smelled so bad! You could smell it without even going near the bathrooms!! Eww!!! This place is tiny, but please tend to the bathrooms! Just nasty. Decided to get our food to go, just couldn't handle the smell! Overall, isn't my favorite location.

We like this place! Took couple of my friends who had never tried Smash and they gave the experience a thumbs up. We're so glad we don't have to go into Fairfax for one of their burgers. Their sweet potato fries have a nice sweetness and saltiness to them.

Stopped in for a late lunch yesterday. Pretty chaotic for 2 in the afternoon. But if you don't mind a noisy atmosphere and tight seating, the food is worth the 15 min. wait. Tip: order the Truffle, Swiss burger! Also, give a minute or so before taking a bite unless you want 2nd degree burns on the roof of your mouth. Still recovering. Rvsd: Hate to take a star, but hasn't been as good as the first time. Food overall is overly salty and burgers literally drip with grease.

Great menu with different choices. Ahhh, the variety! I love their haystack onion side dish. Smash fries are like shoestring fries--pretty good. I like my burger well done. I mean, done done. I mean so well done that the cow could eat it and not be considered a carnivore. Meh, it came medium rare. The salted caramel shake .... BEST. IN. MY. LIFE. Employees and manager were cheerful too!

I've been here twice now, both times to-go and it took a while to order, then receive my order. Initially, I told myself the delay was new-opening jitters, but the second time was a few months after the opening, so I would have expected those issues to be worked out. It wasn't. However, both times, the burgers were very tasty and satisfying. I had the Classic the first time and the Bacon Cheeseburger the last time. I will go back to try the Capital and the Truffle Mushroom Swiss. From a taste perspective, this place makes 5 Guys seem like regular fast food, but not quite Rays Hellburger. In Tysons, there's been a flood of better burger places, BGR, Elevation, Kraze, and now Smash. I'd rank Smash the best of all the new better burger joints in Tysons.

  • George J.

Food was good. except they missed half of the things I ordered and of course I got back to work and didn't realize until 3 bites in that there were no jalapenos, chipotle mayo, nor grilled onions like I had asked. The egg was the only topping that made it on from my custom order which they encourage. In addition to completely ignoring my custom order, my burger was sitting ready for 5 minutes before I had to ask some one to put it in a bag for me so I could get back to work. Food is decent service is polite but non existent.

This place should be called salt burger. I would love to know the sodium content in these burgers, I think it would look McDonald's look like a vegan restaurant. I might have caught it on an off night, but that was more than enough.

I recommend you get my order. BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger cheddar cheese (comes with fried onions) W/ their CRUCIAL Chipotle sauce in an Egg Bun. If you're in the ice cream mood their Oreo Hagen Daz Milkshake is GOAT worthy. Vienna/Tysons Corner area really lacks a go-to on the go quality eatery other then the usual Chipotle/Noodles Company order which is pretty ironic with all the choices Tysons Corner Mall offers. Smash Burger is emerging as THAT go to quality eatery place. For somebody who has never been to smash burger and orders the typical elevation burger/five guys for a go to burger place to eat, you're doing it wrong. Smash Burger smashes all other competition for quality burger places. Even though it is a bit pricey, it leaves a craving feeling in your mouth even after you're done with your meal to return to Smash burger again. The location of this specific smashburger is great just opened up building. the ONLY reason I give this place 4/5 stars compared to 5 is their staff members. the first couple of months they opened, i gave them the benefit of the doubt with the understanding of the fact that these people have no idea what they're doing, but as months have progressed, they still don't know what they're doing. C'mon now, i figure you all would get the memo to click some buttons. In one of the more recent times i've visited this place, the cashier completely messed up my order, and when i brought the burger back, they made it as if i was being a douche not eating a burger they already made when i CLEARLY stated i wanted my burger this way done. Yes, i am picky, but the fact remains if someone tells you their order and you get it wrong, you're wrong, not the customer which is the number 1 rule in Customer Satisfaction. The lady gave me a dirty stare and served my burger back to the kitchen and they made my burger, I hesistated to open the bun to check if they got my order wrong, but i did and what do you know. they forgot my fried onions which I told the lady twice now. Like c'mon, i'm paying extra for this. I come back to the lady, tell her you forgot my fried onions on my burger, the lady then goes back herself puts some in a to-go box and hands me it. I say thank you and the lady gives me the dirtiest stare as if I'm the one at fault here with no response back to my polite thank you which really i shouldn't have said. long review i know, but i just had to inform you all on why I really question the workers here, i've had more bad expierences with workers here but i dare not to bore you all with the details. Most importantly, I come back because SMASH BURGER RULES. (even with their post tiger woods surgery subpar workers)

The establishment was really clean and the service was friendly. Unfortunately the burger was extremely flat and relatively flavorless. I ordered their larger burger, so I expected a lot more. The sweet potato fries were good and the brioche bun was a nice touch, but I don't understand why they would make such a flat, dry burger. The burger is so flat that the bun and any toppings can't be properly proportioned. Their marketing seems to be on point, but I don't think this place offers good value or a very good product.

If you want an amazing experience, get the avocado burger and add an egg on top, then get the the fried onions with the sauce and the oreo milkshake. Cant be healthy but I would marry it if I could. First time trying this place and it may be the greatest place in Tysons - if not the world.

My experience started with ordering a classic burger on Route 29 location it was haven the burger was dripping with juice it just melt in your mouth. So the next time I branched out I ordered a swiss mushroom burger and it tasted just like a Big Mac, no I take that back it tasted like a dried Big Mac. My only hope was to wait for Tyson location open and pray that I will have then experience the melt in your mouth again. I walked in Tyson location and ordered truffle mushroom burger, to my disappointment it was the same dried burger. I looked over at other table and other customer seemed enjoy a dripping juicy burger so I walked over asking what burger was that, classic burger was the answer. Today I walked in ordered a classic burger but the burger was dried and smashed thin literally. This is it this is my fourth try I won't be back.

Went twice this weekend. Salt and grease I assume generates 4 star reviews. The Haystack onions was a glob of grease when I got home. To add insult my order was wrong. I did not feel like going back because it takes forever to get your food. 2 and done. Gave it a 2nd try and I was still miffed. Why stress, just go somewhere else and that I shall do.

The burger was too salty and extremely greasy. Yes, beef, salt, and grease go hand in hand in hand, but there's an overboard and smash burger needs a lifesaver. Staff was decently nice and place was clean. Beside the salt and fat, the burger was unremarkable. Flavor combinations were boring or gimicky. Truffle mushroom burger? Uck.

I live half the time in NYC so I have tried a fair share of burgers, and smash burger is at the top of the list of best burgers. Esp with the egg bun, and the meat is good quality. Tried Smashburger for the 1st time yesterday, noontime, there was no line, and food took about 5-10 minutes which isn't long if they are making it fresh, per order. Staff was friendly enough. Ordered the big Classic smash burger with no pickles, and rosemary fries. It came the way i ordered it. Yeah! At first the burger tasted amazing and seemed juicy enough. I like the "egg" bun and the fries too. But after a couple of bites, i realized the burger had an overwhelming amount of salt in its mix. Afterwards for a good long while, I swear i continued to taste saltiness in my mouth. That was bizarre. It got me wondering as to how much sodium is in their burgers, so i googled it, and my tastebuds were validated....the big Classic burger has almost 2-3 x the amount of other chain burgers! In fact, at 2100 mg, it exceeds the recommended daily sodium intake of 1500 mg. Definitely not a wise meal choice.
