Short and sweet, this is our go to local sushi restaurant. The quality of ingredients is there, the classics are on point, the specials are interesting, and I'm a big fan of then Ramen bowl. This isn't your poor college student style of ramen either. We've been here well over two dozen times, and the staff is great.

Stopped in here for an afternoon snack. Ordered the Mexican roll, Alaskan roll and spicy yellowtail. They were all terrible. Fish did not taste right at all. Mexican roll had a very strange/unusual flavor. I'm throwing them a bone with two stars because it was 2 in the afternoon, maybe it was an off time to go. We didn't finish the rolls...waitress looked at us like we were crazy and got a bit huffy, but this is to be expected I suppose. Take the extra time and drive over to Kumo Sushi in Herndon instead.

The worst sushi ever. I had a bad experience a few years ago and just tried it again hoping it got better but I was wrong. The sushi rice is soggy and the fish smells old. Try for yourself or drive out to Matsu or Arigato for quality sushi!

My only critique about Tsunami is the prices are a bit high, but I know I am getting quality sushi, so I keep going back! I definitely have favorite sushi rolls, but each one I've tried has been delicious! The restaurant itself is small and comfortable. The staff is very kind and helpful. I love to eat in the restaurant and I often get take-out. Tsunami Sushi is something I crave!

The other reviewers hit it in the head, just a typical sushi joint with no bells or whistles. Nothing special here. :/ I was a bit disappointed in my salmon skin roll, I'm use the the skin itself being used to wrap the roll but instead a bunch of dry crunchy pieces were in the inside and while it wasn't bad... I didn't even want to finish it. I also got the smoked salmon roll with cream cheese and kiwi on top, just bland, the fish itself seemed really soft. Not sure how to explain that. Oh... And I tried the appetizer Arigato Rolls which is pretty much 5 crab Rangoon balls that is kind of bland... Maybe if they actually used crab in them it might be more appetizing or it would have been nice to have some sort of sauce to dip them in. Just a little disappointed in the food I guess, I mean it's good but that's it, just good. The service was awesome though! I think if I came back here, I would come for their lunchtime buffet.

It's just another typical Sushi restaurant with lunch buffet. They do have some other food choices on the buffet menu (chinese/korean mix), but nothing really special to mention. Wasn't too impressed with quality of fish for the buffet, but that's unfortunately the case for most restaurants that offer lunch buffet.

If you don't have any good thing to say, don't say it. You can just skip this place and find somewhere else to waste your money. That is all i can say.

Okay..i"ll be honest... Tsunami deserves a 3.5 and the here's is why. 1 Sushi roll matters and that is the Oyster Roll. Deep fried oyster, cucumber and fish roe. Okay I'll admit $5.50 for 6 rolls and your getting half a piece of oyster in each piece of the roll. But its the perfect bite. My cousin had one of my pieces and after he tried it he had to order 2 more rolls because it was that good. Other rolls that we tried that were just okay were the spider roll, rainbow roll, California roll, Chameleon roll and a spicy tuna roll. All just tasted like the usually do just generic nothing special. We also ordered. Beef teriyaki which came with miso soup and a side salad. The beef was tender but really chewy...teriyaki sauce was a bit too sweet for me. The salad the ginger dressing wasn't too bad not watered down like it usually is at some restaurants. Overall..Tsunami deserves 3.5 only for the Oyster Roll. Without it probably wouldn't get so much praise from me. Service was okay. Rolls took a while to come out though. But huge bonus if you need quick childcare while you eat the waitresses are really good with little kids. They seemed very attached to my little nephew.

Chicken teriyaki tasted like something from a microwave meal- it was really nasty. The sweet potato roll was pretty good. Service was excellent but I will only eat here if I'm desperate.

Came here Thursday night for sushi. My bf doesn't like sushi and got the hibachi shrimp and steak. I felt like the portion was small and it didn't look that appealing but he said it was good and that he was full. I got a California roll and the fair lakes crunch roll and I thought both were good. The rolls are bigger than what I thought they'd be- I can usually kill two rolls but I got halfway through these and was full. Our server was nice and made sure our drinks were always full. There's not many sushi places in the area and I don't mind this place at all- I'd come back for sure.

I'm learning to like sushi, I've had it a handful of times and my tastes are really starting to enjoy it. This was my first time here, I brought my sister who loves sushi so she could help me pick what I would like. Honestly I still like tempura- I haven't quite ventured past that except for a few items. The reason I gave Tsunami a 3 is because we felt rushed and kind of uncomfortable. It was about 30 minutes before they closed between lunch and dinner; plenty of time to enjoy a couple plates without making anyone stay past their shift. We also noticed the sushi we ordered probably came from the buffet that was almost over, that's fine but it didn't taste freshly made. I will say our servers were very kind and attentive even with the rushed feeling; it was more of the over atmosphere that was uncomfortable. I'd love to try it again for dinner because I know it'll be much better.

$15 all you can each at lunch. Lots of variety. Fish was fresh. Small portions, but all you can eat, so go back for more. I will be back

My husband and I went to the lunch buffet. It didn't have a variety nor did the buffet sushi seem a good quality. It wasn't gross, but it was disappointing.

Not overly wowed by Tsunami. Rolls are large but not very tasty. Also had a sushi variety. Sea Clam was small but flavorful; uni terrible. Tasted like it was preserved or from a can and not fresh. Salmon and Flying Fish roe both somewhat tasteless. The service is pleasant and not overly attentive which is nice but the food, well, it just doesn't get it. If you want something fast in a strip mall setting then this is your place. If you want higher quality then best to look elsewhere.

The sushi rolls are quite ugly but very delicious. Price is fair. We will go again as it's in a good shopping center.

This is your typical sushi restaurant. They have a lot of rolls, maki and other typical items on the menu. The staff are friendly and I've never had to wait for a table (no reservations necessary). They serve a free bowl of edamame and give you free orange slices for dessert (both a very nice touch)! They prepare the rolls pretty quickly and they are pretty tasty/satisfying. My favorite roll is the "Fair Lakes" roll. They also serve a decent miso soup. The best part about this place is the affordability... A decent meal for 2 at this places is under $25!Sweet.

I had a living social coupon for this place and I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be good. The deal helped out greatly for 2 rolls and a beer it was $42.00. I had the dragon roll and the spicy tuna lovers roll. They both tasted great but presentation was a little different. The tuna in the tuna roll looked like it went through the food grinder then traditional chunks of tuna. On the eel roll you need to really like eel because the end 2 pieces have at lease a 2 inch section of eel. It's defiantly a place I would go in and try again but I won't be ranking it as my top 5 places.

Saturday Lunch Sushi Buffet! After a long Friday night of partying it up in the Fairfax suburbs, I awoke on Saturday with a hankering for sushi. To my dismay, a friend recommended Tsunami as a place to check out, and it was actually pretty good. He warned me, it's not the best sushi ever. It's really not. Nothing beats the sashimi or chirashi special at my favorite sushi joint, but I wasn't looking for the best. I was looking for something fast, and something where I could stuff my face with lots of variety. $15 later, I was very happy with my decision. I've been to a couple of other sushi buffets, and this one was definitely better than some of the others. Hope this helps.

My favorite spot to grab sushi. Tsunami is one of those places where you can order any roll and be satisfied with it. I don't think I've had an experience where I didn't like any of their rolls. In regards to their entree items like udon, curry, etc. I think it's alright. But their sushi is definitely worth a try! Also, you should try their sushi buffet whenever they have it!

If you come here, come here for the lunch buffet on weekdays. It's the best bang for your buck sushi in the Fair Lakes / Centreville area. My co-workers and I are always down to go there because it's roughly $13 / person, and you get a wide variety of rolls and nigiri, as well as 8 different hot entrees. Soup and Salad are also included with the buffet. At Whole Foods, $13 can get you 1 roll. This place is so much more worth it. The quality of the sushi is not nearly as bad as some people make it seem like here. I won't go out the way and say it's amazing, but it's definitely above average. I never had a bad experience out of the 5 times I've been there. Just don't come here expecting a high-end environment. The employees here are Korean, not Japanese. The location is in a strip mall. For what you pay here, the quality is great. The service is great. When we go in big groups, we don't even need to ask for the waitress to split the checks. She makes it so easy for us to pay and get out of there in a jiffy. They are also good about refilling water, and taking away finished plates. Overall, I would only come here for the buffet otherwise I would say it's overpriced for the quality. I rated this place 4 stars because it's pretty OK quality food, and good selection, for really low cost. If I had excellent sushi for high price and I would also give 4 stars. It's all relative to cost, so for Tsunami I give it a high rating for foods that are within this price range.

My hubby + I decided to try another sushi place. This restaurant has ok sushi. I found it to be a little salty. The appetizer was a little salty, too. And there was a slight fishy taste to the sushi. Also, my first impression of the waitress was eh. She wasn't friendly, she wasn't rude. The sushi is a little overpriced, too. Overall, I don't think I'll be returning.

I met a friend here for their AYCE lunch buffet, and wow, I seriously do not know how they stay in business. The quality of the fish was abysmal. After trying a few different pieces of sushi, I stuck with only the cooked foods on the buffet, which were not much better, as everything was deep fried and soggy. You can go to Sakura in the same shopping center and get a much higher quality sushi meal for just a little more money.

After a long day of volunteer dog rescue work at PetSmart, the wife and I were hungry and looking for something to fit our new low-carb diet. Hello sashimi! I've never been a fan of the local chain Sakura (which has a spot in Fair Lakes) so we decided to try Tsunami, and it was a great choice. We were true to our low-carb diet and didn't order any rolls, opting for two of the sashimi combo plates (Moriawase and Omakase) and a sashimi order of unagi. Both plates provided an ample amount of the standards - plenty of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and whitefish. And the Omakase added mackerel, squid, baby octopus, scallop, and shrimp. All of the fish was very good quality. It wasn't mind-blowing sashimi, but it was as good as I've had in the DMV. I't more 4+ start, but I up them to 5-stars for three reasons. First, the miso soup was AWESOME, some of the best I have ever had. Period. Second, the scallops were on point - not many places put them on a sashimi platter and these were excellent. And third, they included the fried shrimp heads with the shrimp on the Omakase. Not every place gives you the fried shrimp heads - and maybe it was because I hadn't had them in so long, but they were so so good. I could have eaten a dozen of them. This is definitely a place I'll visit again when I am in Fair Lakes!

Great sushi and staff. Large variety of fresh sushi that is best if ordered ala carte. Try the hot dishes too. Udon was really good if you want something hot and feel under the weather.

Decent sushi buffet for lunch with a mix of some chinese food. It's small and a bit expensive for what you are getting (12.99?). Servers are very nice, attentive, bringing you refills without asking and taking away plates quick. It's not too busy either, even during lunch hours, so you can get in and out quickly. The place is also small so when you are getting your food, everyone is scrambles everywhere. I enjoy the california rolls, miso soup and fried vegetables. Haven't had anything off their menu yet, so I can't rate that just yet. But for the buffet, it's decent but don't expect anything spectacular.

I have eaten in on a weekend and I've taken out. Every time I've walked into the restaurant, the smell of fish was very noticeable. The service is friendly and helpful. The sushi is meh. The restaurant is pretty, but again, it smells fishy. Can't rate the buffet because I haven't eaten here during the week lunch hour. Honestly, those are two words that just shouldn't go together, in my opinion. Sushi + Buffet just doesn't work in my mind. There are better sushi offerings to be had in Fairfax, VA.

Some of the worst sushi I have had in the area. I would have been happier with store bought sushi. I ordered 3 specialty rolls to go. It was expensive, and the quality was terrible. The white fish tasted like plastic and the eel was too fatty to eat. Not going back, I will stick to Matsu Sushi in Centreville and Arigato Sushi in Fairfax.

Sushi buffet is great. The sushi pieces are a little small, but I feel less guilty about eating so much and getting a good variety. I am always wary about the deep fried sushi, but somehow I always end up getting them anyway. I should know better not to, but haven't learned my lesson yet. The hot foods include tempura, vegetables, chicken teriyaki, Teri fish, orange chicken. Miso soup and somen soup are also offered. Had a little issue with communication with the server about payment, but in the end was ok, wish I could have used a gift card instead of paying with my regular credit card.

I don't throw out 5 stars very often, but when I do, it means something. My girlfriend and I come here almost every week. The sushi is tasty, fresh, and prepared masterfully. The service is absolutely on point. The waitresses make an effort to make sure you are enjoying your meal and that you have everything you need. They're super friendly and remember us when we come in. I've been to sushi restaurants in NoVA/DC that make you pay even if the waitress messed up the sushi roll order. It can happen...people make mistakes. Seriously though? Not here! If it's wrong they take it back and make you what you want. Can't recommend them enough. Best sushi in NoVA!

This review is based off of their sushi buffet lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I decided to try out the sushi buffet over ordering individual rolls primarily due to the reasonable price. As soon as I got up to the sushi "buffet", I immediately regretted my decision. Firstly, their sushi pieces were TINY. This could be a good thing for some (no rice overload), but was a bad thing in my opinion. I go to a buffet to get FULL. There was no variety in the sushi prepared, so to fill your plate up with a million tiny sushi rolls that are all pretty much the same would be, eh. The sushi was OK. The hot foods were typical buffet hot foods- salmon, teriyaki chicken, veggies, etc. Nothing notable, and nothing superb. There was a section to get 2 different soups (miso, and one other one that wasn't any good).. and that was it for the buffet. I would have much rather spent a few extra bucks to go with the sushi rolls.

Working with a $20 Groupon for a 2 pm Sunday lunch with my wife. Skipped all the sushi and went straight to the main course. Ordered shiyo ramen. Better tasting than packed ramen but there are other better ramen places. Wifey ordered hibachi chicken and shrimp. When it came, the chicken and shrimp seemed to have been boiled instead of being cooked on the hibachi grill and the whole dish was under seasoned. Paid $ 14 more because we ordered an appetizer. Not cheap but reasonable. But on the basis of one experience, two stars--was not impressed.

Grabbed lunch to go from here while on a business trip and got the spicy churashi bowl... so good! A generous serving of surprisingly fresh chunks of tuna, yellowtail, and salmon with greens and rice, mixed with some delicious spicy sauce. The lady who helped me pick was very sweet and helpful in explaining what churashi was. The menu overall was a bit pricey in my opinion, but perhaps it's because I live in LA and sushi is everywhere. Took about 15-20 min. for my food to be ready... but it was totally worth it. I INHALED the entire bowl, soup, and salad.

Very mediocre sushi. Definitely wouldn't go back or recommend ever eating here. The spider roll had a bad fish taste. The California roll and yellowtail were also not very good.

I go here frequently, ever since it was taken over by the current owner some years ago. On a bad day, I've gone here with a book and just relaxed. I typically go on "off" hours so I don't feel bad about taking a table. The staff has always been very friendly and the service excellent. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Examine the pictures on the wall, and you will notice the frames are constructed and designed out of cardboard. Its a bit different, but clever. I've worked my way through the menu and while I have never found something "bad", I definitely have my favorites. The Katsu Don, fried pork chop with an egg sauce over rice, is a good "comfort food" styled favorite of mine. I regularly order varying sushi, nigiri and tempura and devour them completely. Delicious. One time I went in and ordered some toro. The owner explained to me that her shipment came in, and she was not happy with the quality and wouldn't serve it. I appreciate the explaination and I'm glad she didn't. You don't play games with raw fish. For those complaining about the buffet and getting penalized for eating only the fish, I have NEVER seen a sushi buffet that didn't penalize you for doing this. You are trying to eat only the expensive part and leaving behind the rest. Does this place have "the best" sushi I've ever had, and the "the best" atmosphere I've ever experienced? No. Those are the places I can't afford regularly, if but once every couple years. But do I feel welcome, enjoy my visit, enjoy the food, and walk out feeling better than I did going in? Absolutely. They deserve 5 stars in my book.

Seriously, if I could cut this lowest star to a half, I would. Went here for lunch this week for the first time with my 10 yr old as a treat after going to a doctor's appointment, and this place happen to be nearby. This place was so painfully disappointing! The sushi seemed to be left overs. They had the nerve to pack on large amounts of rice and put itsy, bitsy, tiny slices of sushi on top of it to trick customers into getting full faster (strategy for sushi buffets to cheap out on the fish ). The quality and taste was certainly not sashimi grade, it was nasty! To prevent the not fresh look that cheap restaurants do when to fool the customers, they put fake glaze over the salmon, tuna, and other fish (limited) that I could not identify what it was, and I'm Japanese! The other items in the lunch buffet was increasingly disappointing. They included general tso's chicken ..really, and other Chinese food-like as fillers. As if it could not get worse, all these substitutes were horrible! They advertise "authentic Japanese cuisine", which is insulting to Americans, Japanese & Chinese people alike who knows authentic food but given our trustful nature, it was misleadingly in poor taste. I am embarrassed for the owners of this place and the people who work here.

Came here for date night with the BF. I liked the sushi and the service was very good. I felt that there could have been more variety in the options. However, we just sort of blindly ordered and enjoyed everything. I think though, for sushi, I would go other places that are a bit better.

I can totally relate to the others that said there sushi was room temp..so was mine! It was not appetizing and I was praying I wouldn't get sick (I didn't). Other than that it was fine, but there are better sushi places I would rather go. They have some good special rolls.

Honestly, this used to be one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the area until my most recent experience on Friday 7/12/13... As a family we have been dinning at Tsunami for over 10 years! It is literally about 5-10 minutes from where we grew up. We have never (as a family) had a bad word to say about this establishment or their staff. My girlfriend and I decided we wanted to eat some sushi last night. We were so hungry that we both didn't even change clothes after work, we just headed staright for dinner. Upon arrival, we were greated with normal Tsunami welcome from the whole staff. The restaurant was about empty, there might have been 4 tables (this is at 6:45pm). Our sever greeted us promptly and offered drinks right away. We ordered a miso soup and house (ginger) salad for appetizer. Both were great. We put our order in for four different sushi rolls and one deep fried california roll (my girl friends favorite). Our four rolls came out very fast, about 15 minutes after ordering. After about 5-10 minuntes after the rolls came out, we inquired about the fried california rolls and how long they would be. Our server forgot to order them, and said she would get them for us as soon as possible. No big deal, we were busy with the regular rolls anyways and we were in no rush. They came out 10 minutes later, and we were all set. After we finished our dinner, we decided to try a dessert offering. It was a very limited dessert menu with a few sherbert flavors, fried ice cream and fried banana ( which you could order a la carte or a la mode). We decided to order the fried banana * with ice cream. About 5-8 minutes later our dessert was served. Unfourtunately it wasn't fried banana, in fact there was no banana and only to small mounds of what looked like fried ice cream. We waited until the waitress returned, I then told her that this was not what we ordered and we would like the banana with ice cream. She looked a bit puzzled, but then responded with "you don't want the banana, they are really bad". I was then a bit taken a back, but assured her that was what we wanted. Five minutes later the fried banana with ice cream and chocolate sauce drizzled on top was served. My girlfriend and I toook one bite of the banana's and immediately dicarded the bite into our napkins. It was really starnge because we did it at the same time! The banana was rancid and had a terrible smell and taste. In fact the banana was almost a mushy texture inside of a moist battter which was not cooked all of the way. We then [ushed the plate to the front of the table so the waitress could see there was an issue. She returns and asks "whats wrong?" I reply with "you were completely right, the banana is really bad, could you please take this away". We took one bite of this dessert and gave it right back. We then recieved the check, and I notice that we are being charged for "Tempura Ice cream $6.95". Mind you our total bill was in excess of $55 for all that sushi we ate. The manager returns with the bill, places it right in front of me and she puts both of hands on the table and leans in about 4 inches from my face and says "You ordered this ice cream twice, you will pay for it". We are in shock at this point, I say "we ordered banana and we were served ice cream, and matter of fact we did not like the banana!" She then (in a sarcastic tone) says "oh really?! that must be our fault, let me change that for you!' Completely embarassing herself, she decides to then bring the banana dessert mess of a dish back and place it in front of me and my girlfriend and starts matting it down with a spoon over and over again saying "you didn't like this, something wrong with you? Don't worry I took it off you don't have to pay (in an extremely demonstrative tone). Not to mention I was already spending over $50 for dinner, she was treating us like we were trying to get one over on her or something, the fact remains the dish was brought to us incorrectly, and then when it was corrected it was disgusting. I have never been so uncomfortable in a restaurant before in my life. As stated, my family USED to frequent this place, but I have since informed them and we all (12 of us) will never go back again. P.s. there is a reason this place had only 6 tables TOTAL in it at 8pm on a Friday night when we left. They are more concerned with pinching pennies instead of giving great service, in doing so they have just lost longtime loyal customers who dined with them at least twice a month!! And this is the Fairlakes location, next to the Target off of Fairlakes Parkway..

I mostly only get sushi from here because it's near work, and I can just pull up to get some sushi to go. It's good but it is definitely not my first choice. If you order take out, they let you park on the curb right in front. The sushi lunch buffet is a pretty good deal but I can never convince anyone to go with me.

I'm surprised this place has more than 3 stars, b/c honestly anyone who actually enjoys eating sushi will NOT enjoy this place. Let's get this out of the way, if not for the price of the buffet this place would get a 1 star from me. So if you're just to fill up on mediocre food, come here and it'll be worth it. Now, if you care about taste, don't bother coming here. The selection is lacking which it comes to raw fish. I'm sorry, but only asians would put up a sign that threatens to charge you extra if you don't finish your sushi rice. It's poor taste (HA, no pun intended) in my opinion. The hot food is actually OK, but I didn't come for that. Here's my recommendation: don't eat the buffet, order some legit pieces of sushi and/or rolls. Even though it was a buffet, I left really unsatisfied and i'm not a picky eater!

This place is stuck in limbo between amazing and terrible. I've been here several times with friends and families because it's a nice low-key restaurant within decent driving range from where I live. I usually order from the special maki roll selections on their a la carte. The waitress served pickled carrots and edamame for appetizers. Tonight, in addition to the usual, she brought these crab rangoons (fried wontons filled with crab and cream cheese) which were absolutely delicious!! (...and not healthy). I ordered the Alaskan roll (smoked salmon, avocado, and cream cheese) and the Ninja roll (fresh water eel, tempura crumb, avocado, cucumber, fresh roe, wrapped in soybean sheet) which were very good but then again I was also very hungry so I don't know how much of this review is my hunger speaking. I'm still patiently waiting for that one roll that will make me scream and climb out of my chair... ...the highlight of my dinner was probably the crab rangoons though. yum. This specific dining experience was a 4 but I'm taking into consideration all the other times that I've been there. I lowered it to 3 stars because the prices are pretty high for such average food. The lunch buffet is quite bland for the $14 or so bucks that you have to put in and if you come towards the end of their lunch hours, you will basically get the leftovers (the soup and salad will probably be gone as with many other 'hot' items). Another reason why I lowered their rating is because when I was there for the lunch buffet there was this sign that said something along the lines of 'if you don't eat all the rice from the sushi, you will be required to pay full price' which, in my personal opinion, is very rude. I do get where they are coming from though because some people (*cough* me) would just eat the meat and not the rice (and that could hurt business), but you can't tell someone how to eat their sushi! What if they're on a diet and don't want to eat the carbs?? Are you going to charge them more because of that??! That really ticked me off. Overall, a decent restaurant but you are honestly not missing out on anything if you've never been here.

This is my go to spot for sushi and that honey glazed chicken, green beans and tofu. I used to go here once a week when I worked in Herndon. I'm not a sushi expert at all and have only eaten it at a handful of spots but this sushi is fresh during the week and I love the hot bar. Never even tried to order anything off the menu.

If I could give 3.5 stars I would because this is a good spot to go to for some quality sushi. It's actually my go-to spot for sushi because it's the only satisfying sushi place I can find close to me. Their prices are very reasonable and the size of each roll and pretty big. Beware if you get the Volcano because you almost have to cut it in half to fit it in your mouth! (Okok har har) There's always open tables but definitely regulars that go in there and the service is great. They're very friendly and quick to take your drink order as soon as your seated. If you just having a craving for sushi one night I'd stop by Tsunami for sure!

Not amazing but not awful. Got the arigato balls for an app - cheese in the middle was very good but whatever they decided to wrap it in, didn't work with it. Maybe I was expecting more of a dumpling? But this was a lot harder. Seaweed salad was nice and fresh. Ordered the tuna roll on special and the yellowtail nigiri. Definitely not bad - but nothing I would go back just to get. Hopefully I can try more items in the future and see what happens!

Yikes. I went in on a whim during their lunch buffet. I was going to Target and happened to pass by. Now, I know lunch buffets aren't known for their amazing sushi, but I have been to a few that were decent and would return to. Not this one. For $13.95 it's a great value and the service is quick and friendly, but good LORD the food is terrible. The sushi is so bad, it was as if someone who hated sushi made it. Anyone who actually says they enjoy the sushi here is a complete liar. Or has pica disorder. The actual sushi was a giant clump of rice topped with a sliver of fish. I'd say it was 97% rice, 3% fish. The maki rolls, for the most part, had one ingredient. Servings were microscopic. It was like the chef took a normal-sized roll piece and cut that in half. Then he cut that half in half. THAT was one roll piece. The philly roll maybe had a drop of salmon and cream cheese in it. MAYBE. Of course, the veggie "sushi" were normal portions because it's vegetables, and therefore cheap. I bit into one of the fried rolls, just to see what was actually in it, and all I got was rice. Seriously. It was like a giant clump of deep fried rice. Maybe there was something else jammed in there--a spec of shrimp maybe--but I didn't find it or taste it . If you've ever had sushi and liked it, don't come here. If you've never had sushi, don't let this be your first experience. I think the problem could be fixed by simply raising the price of the buffet. $13.95 for all that selection and variety is a great deal. I'd much rather pay $20 a pop, though, for creative roll combos or at least high-quality boring ones. Perhaps their normal menu is higher quality.

I've only dine here during the lunch buffet because it's relatively cheap and I like variety. Two rolls of sushi equals the price of the lunch buffet so it's a good deal. However, the sushi options are not that great. Most of the sushi have a lot of rice, which is the filler. It gets you full so you don't eat as much. Plus it takes up room for the actual fish. Sometimes I only eat the sashimi and hide the rice in my napkin. I'm not sure if they will get offended or mad seeing me do this so that's why I hide it. Haha. The sushi rolls are mostly made without fish. They're just fillers. The buffet also comes with miso and salad which I do like. And there's about 10 different hot food items. They are all either a variation of chicken or veggies. You can't expect superior sushi when it comes to a sushi buffet that's only around $12-14. For what it's worth it's pretty decent and if I'm in the area again I will probably stop by. I love sushi!

This place is really nice. Some co-workers and I came here yesterday around 12:30 pm, and it wasn't crowded at all. I got the chicken teriyaki, just because I'm not a huge fan of sushi, but everyone who got sushi really liked it. I'll probably come back if I ever want good chinese/japanese food.

Wife and I have come here once or twice. The food is good. Their sushi buffet that they offer is small and a bit expensive. I wouldn't do the buffet, I would stick with ordering rolls and what not off the menu. For someone that doesn't like sushi that much (yeah yeah unheard of right?), there are plenty of 'hot' items on their menu to order. Once I got their bento box. It was pretty good and had just enough sushi for me. The decor is very japanese and there aren't too many tables, but there seems to always be ample amounts of seating.

Sushi was subpar and seemed old, the wasabi was dried out and tasteless. The service wasn't great at all and the atmosphere leaves much to be desired.

We frequent this sushi place when we're in the area just for the Rudolph roll. I forget what's inside but it's topped with a jalapeño and siracha sauce with just the right amount of kick. Their other special rolls are very good as well. We normally order the basic rolls and they don't disappoint. Fish is always fresh when we go. Staff knows us by our faces and are always super duper nice to us. Maybe because we're the only ones who order from the menu even during their lunch buffet. We've never tried the buffet so can't speak on that.

I come here every few months half expecting the food and service to improve. It never does. It's the seem dreary music and the same slow service and the same crappy food.

TERRIBLE- never go. For anyone who said it was good, you must be lifelong smokers or never tasted good sushi in your life. First of all, the edamame that they brought was old, dry and awful. The service was incredibly slow. We ordered sushi salad, which is difficult to mess up and I must say it was in fact edible. The Agedashi tofu tasted old and had an odd aftertaste. Sakura, which is literally a 1 minute drive away is 1,000 times better. I am still asking myself why I decided to try this place out again, the last time I went was a few years ago.

Not really memorable. Located in the fair lakes shopping center, this place only caught CPIK and I because we were starving after doing our weekend shopping. The place was empty when we walked in. Heard they had a lunch buffet, which they don't offer on the weekends. The sushi was ok - not fresh (but what can you expect?) and prices were, again ok. Pro? Service was quick/friendly. With Sakura down the street, it's hard to imagine why you'd pick Tsunami over Sakura...but perhaps their lunch buffets is something to be reckoned with? Either way, as a fan of family owned/small restaurants, I would say it wouldn't hurt to try it out.

Come hungry for sushi and do the popular $13 weekday lunch buffet. Pros Decent sushi - nothing to write home about, but not disgusting like somoe sushi buffets Better-than-usual selection for a buffet Friendly service Cons Slow to replenish the sushi, but they do replenish it as quickly as they can The non-sushi items at the buffet are so-so Gets pretty busy on weekdays

I've been here twice. The first time was simply ok but the second time was horrible. I ordered the arigato balls and they were cold!! As if they were still partially frozen. I also ordered a spicy tuna roll which was brown...disgusting. Skip this place if you're looking for good sushi.

[PERKS] : $13.95 Lunch sushi buffet M-F 1130AM-0230PM This is the closest sushi house to my residency for 2 years now, but I have always opted for Matsu and other sushi places. The habit became an auto-pilot mode, so I end up forgetting why I've only visited this place twice within 2 years. Why. WHY would I drive all the way out to Chantilly, Centreville, and Herdon when this place is closer to me. One day, I had a sudden whim to stumble into here after shopping around Target. All it took was sitting down for 10 minutes before a recollection of this place snapped back to me. Apparently, their definition of "waiting tables" is "making tables wait". They don't wait on you; you wait on them. I'm not one of those pricks who dine at restaurants with a stopwatch then log onto Yelp, "It took 7.25 minutes for someone to greet me, 15.5 to come take my order, exactly 30.8642886 to get my food, 14.00000000001 for refills...", I only notice slow service if it's super obvious. E.g. Multiple attempts of sipping from my mug thinking there's tea in it. Service aside, this is the only place I know that does AYCE sushi, meaning it's self-served so the service wouldn't matter. The only perk is dropping by for the lunch sushi buffet on an empty stomach; all you can eat for 14 bucks. The food isn't great, but that shouldn't matter. When you're that hungry you'd eat anything anyway

I haven't tried anything here besides the sushi, but this place gets 5 stars solely for their special Tsunami Roll. It's a shrimp tempura roll with spicy tuna and crunchy bits of sweet potato on top. Sooooooooooooo good!! The service is also very good and I'm so glad that it's convenient to my house for to-go orders too.

I would probably come back here for lunch if we're shopping in the area and wanted something quick, but wouldn't go out of my way to come back by any means. The lunch buffet seemed to be really popular, but we ordered from the menu. Pros: Quick friendly service. Variety in the menu, plenty of bento box choices and roll combinations if you don't want the buffet Great tempura (except that the vegetables were limited to sweet potatoes and white potatoes). The ginger/citrus dressing on the salad was great. Cons: The nigiri fell apart some and the fish for it seemed a little sub-par - I had to use lots of soy and wasabi on the nigiri which I usually don't do, They use imitation crab and very little avocado in the California roll (I was pregnant when we went, so limited on what I could get, California roll is not my usually choice in sushi, but I'm used to getting it with real crab when I do order it). The miso soup tasted like it was pre-packaged dry soup. But, if you're shopping at Fair Lakes Center and want a different taste, then by all means stop by for a quick lunch, just don't expect great sushi. It also seemed good for groups, plenty of seating.

Really like the lunch buffet - all you can eat sushi, was here a few weeks ago with one hell of a sushi craving and Tsunami did the trick. The fish isn't the best quality I've ever tasted, but it's fine in the maki and there's a great variety of it, plus some creative rolls (with kiwi, tempura, etc.) For a serious sushi craving, it can't be beat. I wouldn't come for anything other than the lunch buffet tho.

There are a lot of sushi places scattered around the DMV area. Not all of these sushi places are really good though. Here, we found a pretty decent one. We stopped in here for dinner after doing some shopping over at Fair Oaks Mall. We got some sake... they had a fair list of sakes, but they didn't list the prices beside them. That was a bit annoying, but through some discussion with our server, we were able to pick out a good cold sake that we wanted that was in the price range we were looking to stay at. They serve edamame and some picked veggies as a complementary appetizer which was nice and refreshing. The meal also came with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. I love when places serve you both rather than giving you the option of one over the other. The wifey got Chirashi, which she enjoyed. The sashimi was fresh and had a very good taste to it. I got a bento box which I really enjoyed a lot. It came with beef teriyaki which was perfectly cooked. Three piece of sushi: shrimp, tuna and salmon which were all terrific, along with a california roll. A few pieces of shrimp and vegetable tempura were included which were well done... really nice batter. There were two shumai dumplings which were surprisingly tasty as well as some steamed vegetables and rice. It was a really nice meal. Everything here tasted pretty good and the service was great. I would definitely come back here for sushi again whenever I am in Fairfax and feeling the desire for some sushi/Japanese food.

Great lunch buffet. I'm sorry, but contrary to other posts, I've been going to this place for years, and the quality is great. Yeah, sushi is small, but its a buffet...just don't eat all the rice :-). What do you expect for 13 bucks? Plus they have soba noodles and some excellent hot dishes as well. Can't speak on dinner, but for an excellent lunch, i'm there!

It's just alright. I went with a girlfriend of mine and wasn't super impressed, but wasn't horribly disappointed either. The sushi just barely meets the bar. If you're craving sushi and have nowhere else to go, this will do!

  • Gurkie C.

Yum, this place has a good lunch buffet I think its 13 bucks for all you can eat sushi. The way they try to keep people from eating too much fish and leaving everything else, is to charge extra for food you leave on your plate... For dinner I love the vegetarian box I think its E. Its how I found the Spicy Teriyaki Tofu which I really enjoy. I think this is probably the only Japanese restaurant where I ever order anything other than Sushi!

Not worth the price. Ordered miso soup (as an appetizer) and VEG fried rice ... total of appro $12, let's just say i the amount i got was equivalent of $6.. While manager tried to explain the rationale behind the pricing and dish quantity, it may be okay for them but not for me. I dont think i'll be back nor will recommend to family/friends. Just not worth it (yes pun intended).

The sushi on the lunch buffet was the same as always. The food bar didn't have any tonkatsu so they probably replaced it. They had teriyaki chicken which seemed to be popular since half of it was gone after my third visit.

I came here for dinner last night with the boyfriend because we: myself craving salmon sashimi and he was craving sushi. Usually I wouldn't get sushi/sashimi at a "Japanese" sushi place because I know for a fact sashimi is fresher at Korean sashimi restaurants versus "Japanese" restaurants (you can say I'm being biased here because I'm Korean! but its true, I've ALWAYS had better sashimi at Korean sashimi restaurants), however, it was close by to us and the name of the restaurant stood out. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was clean, simple, and average. Very minimal. At the time we went, there were two sushi chefs and three servers, and for dinner time, even though it was a Wednesday wasn't too busy. I noticed most of the clientele were non-Asian and most ordered sushi rather than sashimi. We ordered the salmon sashimi platter for me and my boyfriend ordered 2 spicy california rolls, salmon roll, and spicy tuna rolls. As for the salmon, there were 10 pieces for $18.99. I thought the salmon wasn't salmon-y enough, to better explain myself, it didn't have that rich, fatty salmon flavor it was supposed to have. Also, sashimi should have been served COLD... it was between room temperature and cold which make it seem it wasn't fresh at all. My boyfriend's sushi (I didn't try any because I'm not a huge fan) were normal looking, I'm guessing his salmon and tuna weren't that fresh either... His rolls were about $4 to $5, average price for sushi rolls. Although, the staff and waitresses seemed attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable enough, I would not come back here. Its probably the worst salmon sashimi I've had (and I've had a lot, as I've been eating sashimi as a kid!). I can't speak for the sushi or the popular lunch buffet but I'd say save your money and go elsewhere!

There was nothing really special about this place. If you are looking for a decent sushi buffet then this place it okay. There is nothing really special about their sushi that sticks out to me. Every once and a while when we're in the Fair Lakes Shopping Center and craving sushi, we will stop here. I would not go out of my way to dine here. The buffet food gets a little old and stale as they are not good at refilling it, and the restaurant is never really all that full. I would give it a try of you are at Target and want some quick sushi, but don't go out of the way or you'll be disappointed.

I have been going to this sushi place for over 2 years now. Sitting at the bar is the best and they usually carry on conversation with you the whole time. You must try the TSUNAMI ROLL! Its amazing. The service is fantastic, I have even seen them take someone's fussy baby so they could enjoy their dinner. Totally worth it every penny, every time!

A friend and I went here to check out their all you can eat sushi bar. We arrived right at opening time. We both figured the food would be fresh. Man, were we both wrong. The rice was stale. The sushi roles felt and tasted like they were made from the night before. The non-sushi items were cold as well. How can this be? We arrived when the place opened up! The service, however, was nice and friendly. To be honest I don't think I will ever come back to this place. Sure it's all you can eat but I still want good tasting food.

02/14/2010, Sunday, dinner For some reason, this particular restaurant has changed different owners and restaurant names over the years. I can never figure out the reason. But this place seems to be always popular for its lunch sushi buffet. And the dinner time, it could be a hit or miss. After Tsunami took over for a couple of years, I finally decided to try their dinner. Their dinner menu was impressive, tons of choices. After carefully reading through the menu, I played safe to order a Dinner Box D. That came with California Roll, Sashimi, Nigiri sushi, Saba Shioyaki and Seaweed Salad. Well, plus a scoop of rice that was not mentioned in their menu. Salad and miso soup. The house salad was good, even with a stingy portion. But it was enough for me to taste their wonderful salad dressing. And the miso soup, I don't know how to describe it anymore. It seems to me that tons of "Japanese" restaurants in this area just simply play ignorance on their miso soup. Anyway, I probably could put it this way, that bowl of miso soup definitely gave a bad name to miso soup. Let's start with Saba Shioyaki - salt-broiled mackerel in English. First of all, I never had a saba shioyaki in two pieces of 2X2 butterfly bone-in filet. What an interesting "innovation" that was. The presentation was just off, way off. If I were not cheap, I would not have touched those 2 filets. Then, I assume that their "grill master" forgot the salt, or any innovational seasoning for that matter. Nothing, bland. I love saba. But I never had such a tasteless saba before. Sashimi was not bad, reasonably sized cut. And there was a hint of sweetness on salmon. That's a big plus. Well, in this area, that really is a big plus. California Roll and Nigiri sushi were, once again, bland. Did they forget or refuse to use "sushi" rice? Or they were out of "sushi" rice? Once again, if you are familiar with Japanese food, you would know what I mean about "sushi" rice. And a scoop of rice? What for? Not enough rice, after a roll and nigiri sushi? I wonder who came up with this idea. But at least, you are guaranteed to be stuffed for $22. Ok, here is another "innovation", Seaweed Salad. I was thinking more of wakame seaweed with sliced cucumber or mixed seaweeds. Tsunami version of seaweed salad is a combination of packaged seaweed and seasoned bean sprouts. Well, that just killed my love to seaweed. Service, about average. They were quite busy that night. Three waitresses were running around the whole time. So, I could not ask too much from them. Well, on to the verdict. I am more or less leaning toward 2 for the entrée and 3 for the service. Since there is no a half of star rating. So, 3 stars. However, to be fair, I plan to give them a second change to try their popular lunch sushi buffet. So, stay tuned.

Went here for the first time. The Rudolph specialty roll is one of a kind and was delicious. But the rest of the rolls I ordered were very bland and the taste between all of them was very hard to distinguish in each roll. Overall, the service was great, good atmosphere but not the best tasting sushi I've ever had. Wouldn't be my first choice for sushi but will go back.

Ok, I've been here 3x since moving to town in January. Thankfully each time has been better and better. Here is the Bad and the Good. First time visist I ordered sushi to go with an order of arigato balls (cream cheese wonton fried things, yummy and bad for you). When I got home I was BALL-LESS! *gasp* I called them up and decided to drive back, because I'm cheap and wanted my $4 worth. They were nice enough to double my order, thank goodness they did because when I got home I discovered how SMALL these were. Think tortalini sized, not exactly what I was expecting. The sushi itself was ok, but didn't knock my socks off. Second visit occured on accident because the other estaurant I wanted to go to was closed. This time we ate in, ordering 6 rolls, a seaweed salad and a small sake for me. The sake was an excellent value for the amount! Initially I thought the salad was pricy, that is until they brought it over! Definitely enough to share or bring home. As for the sushi, the Ninja Roll was great but the Yoyo roll was dissapointing. Somehow I thought the kiwi would be a brighter flavour in the mix. Overall it was WAY too much food for two people, so I guess thats a plus. We were one of only two tables that evening. Staff was friendly, but not up on the water refills, which was odd considering no one was there. The third visit was the charmer! Today I brought my mother in law there for the sushi buffet. What a fantastic assortment! I expected mostly maki rolls but found they had an abundance of regular sushi too. The best part was the abundant variety of sushi to choose from, there were at least 8 different sushi and almost 10 maki rolls. In addition to the buffet was a small selection of hot items, veg tempura, soup, pork katsu, terriyaki, two types of sauted greens, as well as a great tofu and a honey'd chicken dish! This time around the staff was very attentive to water/soda refills. The bill came to $31 with the buffet and two sodas. An absolutely fantastic deal considering we were stuffed to the gills and had a great time trying out some rolls/sushis we normally wouldn't order. If you can, go for the lunch buffet! You wont be dissapointed.

Downgrade to 3 Stars. Last time I went and yes, it will be the last time. I was super grossed out by the sushi...it was old and tough. They didn't put anymore out for a while and it just sat there. Plus, it's $14 so it's not the cheapest. I don't know maybe they are losing money since people come in there and eat like 3 plates of all-u-can-eat sushi.

From the looks of the reviews, some things must be better than others. I had miso soup and a rainbow roll, takeout, and the rainbow roll was fantastic. The texture of the rice was great, the toppings were fresh and succulent, and I felt like it was better than sushi I've had in many other places in the area. And before going to this place we used to ridicule the name. Disaster Donuts, Hurricane Hamburgers, Tornado Teriyaki.

the lunch buffet is just as good as it gets reasonable prices and selection is sufficient enough to have a good fill! Kim always throws in a couple of extra for regulars during dinner time at least that is what I experienced.$14/person for lunch buffet plus tax and tip.

So my cousin wanted to take his wife out for a surprise birthday lunch, and called me for some recommendations. He was looking for a Japanese place with sushi, and maybe even a buffet. I had been to this place before..when it was Arigato. And that was the name I gave my cousin, and he also gave to some peeps that were missing us. Imagine my surprise when we arrived at Fair Lakes Shopping Center and the name had changed to Tsunami. Luckily, everyone had the address and the old name was still stenciled in the window above the door. My husband and I had the buffet, which we don't typically do with sushi since sometimes you never know how long the rolls have been sitting out. However, since we were seated back by the actual sushi bar, we could watch the chefs slice and cut and roll and plate pieces upon pieces every few minutes. There was also some miso soup and wafu salad that you could take with the buffet as well as some hot items like tempura and sesame chicken. The waitress was friendly and told our party that we could have anything we wanted, just to tell her what it was and she would have the kitchen make it. The fish was very fresh and the sizes of it used in the sushi was generous. I would go back here.

Best sushi place I know of. I go every Friday and can't get enough! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the arigato balls. Box E is what I generally order, but I also love the shrimp yaki soba! The service is always amazing. Try the plum wine.

I've been a regular here for four years, and Tsunami (formerly Arigato Sushi) has earned a special place in my heart. The sushi is very high quality, super-fresh, and very tasty. I love, love, love the Apollo (spicy, creamy scallop), the Godzilla roll (eel, cream cheese, avocado, tempura outside), and Arigato balls (cream cheese fried wantons). The atmosphere is simple but very well done, with some of the most interesting photograph art I've ever seen on the walls of a restaurant. (Check out the the cardboard frames and lampshades!) Service is great, always friendly, and the owner will check in with you to make sure everything is perfect.

This place smelled, badly that is. We walked in and noticed this funk. Sat down for about 10 minutes trying to decide what to order but the funk, one that our olfactory senses could not get used to forced us to leave. I don't think we'll be back.

This was hands-down the worst sushi experience I have ever had. My girlfriend works near here and I wanted to surprise her with some sushi when I picked her up the other night. I got three rolls, spicy california, philly and california crunch. The fish in the philly roll was very salty and dry, the spicy california roll was dry and thin. The california crunch was nothing to write home about. The only reason I give them 2 stars instead of one is because I got my order very late at night so they may be marginally better during the day. The soy sauce was also ridiculously salty and obviously cheap, the chopsticks were very cheap and split when I tried to open them. Definitely won't be going back.

The lunch buffet is the play here. Dinner is ~OK but I prefer lunch. The buffet has soup, salad, tempura, and an assortment of hot food (chicken, pork, shrimp, etc.) but the sushi is the real reason to visit. Tsunami offers a wide variety of sushi and rolls for you to choose from including my favorite eel. The only downside is that when they are busy the selection dwindles as they aren't the fastest at refilling the buffet. But they do eventually, so patience is the key. The staff is attentive, filling drinks and removing empty plates quickly. My kids (6, 8 & 11) love the place too and can go up to the buffet by themselves as it's easy to see them from any seat (facing the right direction of course :). And the bonus is... after lunch I get to go next door and browse Champion Billiards which is a great store for furnishing your man-cave.

This review is for the lunch buffet and service. We went in on a Saturday afternoon during a shopping trip not realizing we'd have to eat the buffet. Not surprisingly, the quality was really bad. I'd expect that from a sushi buffet. How could they possibly make any money if they provided great quality fish in reasonable portions for $13.95 each? We went in hoping to order off the regular menu and that's when things went off the rails. The server did not speak English - at least, she apparently did not know what menu meant - and pointed us at the buffet when we asked to see the lunch menu. No amount of hand gestures or attempts at rephrasing the request seemed to help. I figured maybe they just didn't offer the regular menu at lunch but then was rather aggravated when 2 girls who sat down right before us received it after speaking to her in Korean, of all things. We will not be returning to see how the menu is - there are plenty of other places that are happy to serve all comers.

Went for lunch. Not a big sushi fan, so got the bento box, with salmon teriyaki instead of the lunch buffet. The salad and miso soup were really good. The bento box looked nice. The salmon was a little dry. The best was the shrimp tempura, big, thick pieces of shrimp. Overall an okay meal, but my favorite is still Endo Sushi in Arlington, VA.

This place has a nice decor, but they tend to sit all the people next to each (my friends stickly point). The sushi tasty and yumi, the Plum paste was VERY good...We did the sushi a la carte and not the buffet which other yelpers have criticized. Our Sushi was fresh and delicious. 1st time there will go back if I am in the area....

Pretty good sushi for lunch. It was all you can eat and made fresh. They seem to replenish quickly. The hot food was ok, nothing to write home about. They did have some salad and miso soup. Price was in the mid-teens. Not too bad for a quick lunch.

Co-workers of mine brought me here on our way back from a meeting. We went for the lunch buffet, it was awesome! I had never eaten sashimi, only sushi rolls and i usually stick to the ones with cooked fish in them. But I decided to give it a try and I am glad I did! The sashimi was not fishy at all, and was soft and pleasant to eat. There are also many different sushi rolls, miso soup, salad, and also a small hot food buffet. On the hot food buffet there is something with broccoli, green beans, brown sauce and I think fried tofu. it is sooo good, but i don't know what it is called. It is about $15 for the lunch buffet and a soda, a GREAT price. However you should know before you go that they will charge you for any of the fish that you leave on your plate and don't eat. I have never had take out or the dinner menu from here, so I can't comment on those, but i definitely reccommend the lunch buffet!

Tsunami used to be Arrigato (sister restaurant of the one in Fairfax on Lee Highway). The food/menu is very similiar to the one in Fairfax. The food is pretty fresh. I typically get take out here because the service and restaurant decor is not that nice. The chicken negamaki is a scrumptious appetizer. The tempura and seaweed salad are both good. Pretty good but a bit overpriced (even for sushi).

I went here for lunch and ended up getting the buffet. For 13 bucks and change, you can't beat the value, especially if you want a lunch with variety. The hot items were a little on the greasy side, and although the rolls were good, you could tell they were hastily made. However, the service was dynamite. Certainly one of the more put-together sushi lunch buffets I've seen.

Tsunami (the same as Arigato) Sushi is the best sushi place around. I am a huge sushi fan, and just got back from San Francisco, where I ate at the Tsunami sushi there (supposed to be the best sushi in San Fran) I still like Tsunami in unassuming Fair Lakes better. The staff knows me and my girlfriend, and often offers us free Tuna tataki, or other food as a sign of their appreciation of business. They take great care to make all of their customers happy. The Pickled vegetables, Edemame and Arigato balls are delicious and a nice treat for just coming in. Their Rainbow Roll is unparralled and their Unagi is fantastic. The Tuna is dark red and generous in portions. If you stray away from sushi it is not quite as good, but still very tasty! The interior of the restaurant is very cool, and comfortable. I highly suggest shying away from the hibachi chop chains to come visit this gem.

My brother was visiting from Arizona and was craving sushi. I'm fairly new to this area myself, so i decided to research the local area in search of a good sushi place. I ran a across Tsunami and read that the lunch buffet offered the best sushi selection for a decent price. My family and I ate there for the first and last time today. We walked in and were seated rapidly and the hostess was very nice. The waitress was also nice and took our order right away. My husband had the Beef Teriyaki and was not very impressed with it. My brother and i ate the lunch buffet, which included sushi, warm appetizers, miso soup and salad. I must disagree with all the people who said this place had fresh food. Many of the sushi pieces my brother and I ate were far from fresh. The tuna and and shrimp pieces were chewy and discolored. The Miso soup was tough to swallow due to grainy texture. I felt like I was drinking a bit of sand with each spoonful. I've had Miso soup before, but never like this. I felt like I needed a sifter to weed out all the grainy stuff. The tempura was very mushy and the oranges didn't have any flavor. Each time my brother and I got up to the buffet, the staff was either looking over our shoulder or walking by our table. That was a bit uncomfortable, but maybe they were bored and need something to do. I also didn't appreciate the signs at the buffet line. One read something like, Get all you want, but eat all you get. Do not eat only seafood sushi. Any left will be charged extra to you. Excuse me, but I don't need my mom telling me to eat all my food and punishing me for not finishing it. What kind of restaurant puts those kinds of signs up? All in all, I was appointed with the food and the SIGNS. I will not recommend this to anyone and will come back. I should have listened to those who recommend I go to DC for real sushi.

My boyfriend and I stopped in here after reading the reviews and after a long day in Washington DC. The staff was incredible. Very nice, spoke english very well, and provided some good advice for menu items. Our meal came out within 10 minutes of ordering. We ordered the Sushi Omakase, which provided a great variety of nigiri sushi and a california roll. It also included an Uni and Salmon Roe roll which we enjoyed since we had never tried it. We also ordered the Alligator roll which was delicious. I felt the fish was fresh, well prepared, and presented. The combination platter also came with miso soup, which is the best I have had (not too salty) and a salad that could have had more dressing. All in all, both plates with 3 glasses of wine came out to $52. We had a great time. The restaurant decor was also nice. Unfortunately we can't compare to the surrounding sushi places, but it was just as good as our favorite sushi place back home.
