So my wife and I was tired of going to same ole buffet (i.e. Golden Corral, Hibachi Buffet and Grill, Golden King, CiCi's just to name a few) and wanted to try a new buffet. We've passed this Old Country Buffet a few times while running some errands and told ourselves we would give it a shot when we had some time. Well my fellow Yelpers, My wife and I was very disappointed with our experience. Let me break down the things that made our experience so bad. 1.) Is the price. Although the price is considerably similar to the other buffets I listed, the amount of food options they offer wasn't. I felt like if you are going to charge similar rates like your competitors at least give me the same amount of food options. 2.) The food options. The number of food choices here is very limited and really doesn't equal the amount they charge you to eat here. Honestly their were only 1 or 2 (not including deserts which shouldn't be hard to mess up) items they had available that we liked, and none were mind blowing. Honestly when we go to a buffet there has to be a minimum of 4 or 5 solid items the establishment offers to make us even consider coming back. This place just didn't have it for us today. 3.) Limited plates and utensils. At one point I had to wait for a plate and silverware, which is an absolute no no for a buffet. When you are running a buffet the customer should feel like you have an unlimited supply of those items. Again, not the case for this place. 4.) Rude employee. One of the employees was very rude to my wife. My wife tried to ask the employee where something was located the employee told my wife where to look but my wife still didn't see it. So she saw the employee the walk by and asked them again and the employee turned around, pointed, and said, "it's right there in your face" with an attitude. That was the last straw. With all that being said just know that my wife and I won't be back to this place anytime soon.

We used to come here for the Grill station particularly, and seemed to satisfy enough everyone in our family including the kids. But unfortunately, the Grill station is not open daily anymore. 3 weeks ago, we went to OCB and already paid and some of us were already started with the salad bar when I noticed the Grill station was empty. I though, oh, we are lucky its is not crowded. But when I went there it was closed. I asked one of the worker there, and she told me it is only opened twice a week (Monday and Thursday?? not sure). We are all disappointed because the rest of the food was below average and we always come here for the steak part. and more than that, we have been charged the same amount of money that we usually pay when the Grill used to be open! This is differently the last time we will visit this place. It does not worth the money at all; dry fried chicken, limited verities of food and some tasteless ones. Used to be

My family usually come here but we haven't been here in about 6 months. We came here today, on a Sunday at 11:45 am. The place was pretty empty. The hot food was cold. It was totally disappointing.

Went here for lunch a few weeks ago with a special I received via email. The food was not replenished at all while we were there, so there was almost nothing edible available. I made a salad, but since ALL of the dressings were out, I had to throw it out. The lunch menu was very spare to begin with, with almost no proteins on the menu. Everything was deep fried and unhealthy. I noticed several employees sitting and eating while nothing was restocked (what were they even eating?) 2 stars because the cheese cake desserts were awesome, served in cute dishes too! I really regretted coming and won't be back. The president of the company sent out an email asking to hear customers opinions- so let's see if he responds.

Traveling from DC we found this place on Yelp. Based on the reviews I was a little hesitant but it sounded like our type of food. The restaurant is in a mall and was resonably busy when we arrived, looked like they were hosting a young baseball team. The wait staff was ok - just on auto pilot. The young man behind the grill was on point though. The food was ok, just not the best exucution. Silly things like, the collards were good- just a lot of stems. The fried chicken was cooked too done for my taste and the salad bar was a bit messy. But the food was decent for the price and they kept everything stocked even when 3 bus loads of kids hit them. Looks like it's a destination spot for travelers.

First impression is that the restaurant is outdated and has a strange odor. Food was warm at best and most of the food was very salty. Golden Corral is much better and for the price, it's not worth it. Not impressed. Will not be back.

One of the worst experiences I've had here. This used to be a nice place to take the family. Wide variety of food and decent prices. Apparently they stopped serving steaks, and have reduced the amount of variety. Everything seems cheap and the food isn't good. I won't make the mistake of coming back.

I don't normally put one starts but when I do, it's the worse food I've ever had at a buffet. Don't waste your money. They would have to pay me to eat here again

Good food, lots of choices, kids loved the place since it had cotton candy and ice cream, etc. Will definitely be returning!

I have been coming here for over 5 years now and the food has become very unhealthy and low-quality! The place just seems dirty and the food seems old. I've been here all times in the day and it isn't worth your time or money! The only thing I do enjoy when I come here is the soup, salad, and dessert bar. The manager is also very rude and angry all the time, he seems as if he's in a rush. Honestly, the food isn't even edible anymore...don't waste your time here!

I have been coming here as a child! That literally means 15 years of my childhood, and now even my kids go here. I have to say that the quality has gone down in the past 10 years. The food keeps getting poorer as the years go by. I wished that they would up their service-staff too. People there don't seem to care anymore, and hate their jobs. The steak line is extremely long. Sometimes, I had to stand for 15-minutes almost to wait for a steak. The waiters are pretty friendly though. The quality of the food is hit or miss. I have to say that their fried chicken is consistent and extremely good for the past decade. Probably, the best all-American fried chicken I've ever had! The soups have gone down hill. It's very slimy sometimes. They have a huge salad bar selection. The corn bread, rolls, and chicken dumplings are another favorite. Ice cream and dessert selection are pretty good too., Overall, it's a kid-friendly and family-friendly place. I can always count on coming here every weekend to find a long line. Got kids? Eat here on Thursdays. Kids eat for 1.99......AFTER 5pm. Don't show up a minute earlier - the registers are automatic so the people at the counter can't help you if you are 5 minutes early. Sign up for their Crave online plan and you'll coupons and deals. They also hand out coupon books from time to time. Plan it right and you get a good deal. No planning? It's expensive. If your kids like pizza or mac and cheese or fried chicken or spaghetti, you can totally have them fed up to the gills. Mine like tons of sliced roast beef - I just keep going back and they eat half of a steer. No bedtime snack necessary. Salad bar is VERY good. It's kept stocked, the broccoli salad and the caesar salad is very good, and the fresh fruit is FRESH. The taco bar is great if you hit it when it's stocked - awful when it's neglected. Soups are ok. The bread that goes with the soup is VERY good. They stopped handing out steaks to order (c'mon guys - this is a buffet - they cannot afford to do that so don't be hating on staff .) They take a few slices and put them on top of potatoes in little dishes under a heat lamp. If you just want the steak, take the dishes and waste the potatoes. Eventually they will get the hint that nobody really wants the potatoes. The dessert bar just keeps getting better. They have dessert shots, the usual cakes, cookies, brownies, fruit crisp.....but also interesting stuff like tres leches cake. The staff is friendly, attentive, and from many different cultural backgrounds. My kids usually learn a new word from another language with each visit here. One thing. DON'T come here to experience good Asian food. Try Peter Pan or even better? Harvest Moon. Old Country Buffet is where you go for American food, with a coupon, and a bunch of kids. On a Thursday. Oh, and Thursdays are very kid friendly. Balloons, kids activities, the works. It's worth it. For a Tuesday, kid deal? Try Denny's. We go to OCB probably a couple of times a month - almost always on Thursdays.

Yeeeahh, another buffet to review guys. Feel my excitement! This time we're going American style! Bring on the ribs! Actually, on second thought, I should have passed on the ribs and some other items. What is it with buffet places and the hospital cafeteria design from the nineties? It's fairly clean but so dated. At 11 bucks per person, I expected diminishing return to kick in after plate two but nope, my resilience to bland food is high so I pushed through to plate three and I had a group to stay with. The night's serving consisted of dry fried chicken, dry chicken tenders, dry brisket, and more dry on top of dry. However the only saving grace was mediocre steak and sausage. Who am I kidding, that won't save this review. What did I learn from these excursions? Stop eating after the first plate and avoid buffets!

Where hungry farm animals and near-death senior citizens come to indulge in below-grade average-food. Make sure before you go to wear two pairs of underwear and have a colonoscopy scheduled with your family doctor. My favorite meal consists of people's shattered dreams and twisted souls. The chicken is a very close second It's certainty nothing to get your hopes up about, and it's a run-of-the-mill buffet. Typically the staff IS courteous and friendly when I go there... Usually there is a line to get in and I dont understand why they don't open the second register. What's the point of having them if you're not using them? This reminds me of Walmart and there endless supply of checkout registers but only a few underpaid employees working them at any given time. Overall I will be back. But first, I have a few miles to run.

Last time I ate here was in 2009. Picked my son up near the local high school and he was hungry. Wanted some pizza from the place next to this joint and should have went with that gut feeling. I guess I have evolved tastebud wise because everything here was just salty. Everything, except the lettuce and fresh tomatoes. 2 persons plus drink $24.55 including tax. You can eat much cleaner and healthier elsewhere. Sadly, I highly doubt I will return to this establishment. Burnt salty battered fish, burnt salty fried chicken. Mehh.

  • Peter P.

Well, i didn't like the food at all. Lowest food quality you can find in this area. You can hardly ever get anything better than some sweat potatoes!! Price is cheap, but still doesn't worth the money. On weekends they serve bbq ribs and small pieces of steak! Again don't waste your money and find somewhere better

  • Sunah J.

Worst buffet experience ever! I would not recommend anyone to go here. Everything was either undercooked or overcooked. Everything tasted the same, the country steak tasted like beef with oil, and basically even the dessert sucked. The only positive I can state about this place is the service, the price, and maybe the rotisserie chicken that maybe they got from giant... Never coming back here.

Our recent visit has proved very disappointing for a couple of reasons: First, they have now reached the point of overpricing themselves ($11.99 for dinner). The proof of that can be seen on Saturday nights. From the past, around 6pm this place was always packed and had a very long line to get in. Yesterday when we arrived around 5:30pm or so, there were 1-2 people in front of us who were already paying for the meal and a whole lot of empty tables throughout the restaurant. They are also very cheap on their coupons. I had a coupon for a dinner at $8.99 for up to two adults. That sounds good but you are required to purchase a beverage (additional $2.29 - for a total of $11.28 which is a savings of 71 cents assuming you skip the beverage for the regular price). If you never buy a beverage, this is a poor deal. If you always do purchase a beverage than you would save more and you would be saving around $3.00 or so. Secondly, was the steaks. Every time we go there and get steaks, we tell them what type of steak we want (rare, medium, medium-well, etc.) and we almost never get what we want. For example, our last visit I wanted medium rare and the guy gave me steak that was well done (no pink at all). Another customer that was with me ordered medium and received raw meat that he could not even eat; it was not cooked enough to be safe to eat. You might as well say you want steak and not tell them the type as they will most likely just give you a random piece. Finally, they were low out of a lot of things and out of hot fudge and chocolate sauce. For a place that is not too busy, it should not be that difficult to keep things stocked more. It is disappointing that my reviews have to go sour, but we will more than likely go and have our $10.00 3-course meal at Bob Evans before returning here.

Everytime I eat here I say to myself "I wish we had a Golden Corral in Fairfax" (yes I borrowed that from South Park) Basically, this place is where you go when you want a lot of food, but don't want it to be real good (borrowed that from King of the Hill) They serve the same food as Golden Corral, but whenever I go here there's really nothing I'm looking forward to, in contrast to Golden Corral where I know I'm headed right for the Clam Chowder or fish. I've been here during quieter times and the place looked like a tornado tore threw it, spilled food all over the buffet tables, leaking ice cream machines, and no dishes to put your food on. That said if you have a coupon this place is a fantastic value. Never tried the breakfast though.

We stopped here for dinner after going to the movies. There was no line and so we thought we'd give it a try. Now I know why the place was empty. The salad bar was picked-over and un-replenished, the vegetables were salty, dry and overcooked, and the deserts were stale. There were no vegetarian soups; the chicken noodle was horribly salty and tasted awful. Everything was deep friend and unhealthy. Save your money.

For the last 3 years, my wife and I have placed this restaurant as one of our favorites never mind the 13 or so mile-drive. This year, we have decisively upgraded our rating from 3 to 5 star mainly because of the much improved flavor and quality of their grilled steak which incidentally is the major reason we go to OCB. The good customer service of the crew and management is secondary albeit a significant factor as well. And with or without coupons, we go to this restaurant at least once or twice a month. Sadly, our visit tonight could or might be our last. The reason being OCB has stopped the regular practice of serving steaks to those who would line up at the grill. When I inquired, the gen manager explained that they have not discontinued serving steaks, they simply modified the system and that the steaks are sliced into smaller cuts and about 2 or 3 pieces are placed onto a stainless steel serving bowl of mashed potato or something and served at the food carts.. If this was guised to save cost and wastage, it could prove to be effective. Unfortunately, it also cost customers' satisfaction and could undoubtedly lose to their closest rival the Golden Corral. Another diner who shared the same disappointment observed that some customers would wait for the rationed steaks at the food carts and once delivered, would take 2 or 3 bowls right away, hence, another grilling wait for the next batch. For the first time in my dining life, I requested for a refund because I did not touch a single food in this visit. So long OCB !

As a vegetarian with a meat-eater friend, we sometimes find it hard to settle on a good place for breakfast and dinner. Old Country Buffet fits the bill very well. It's one of the best buffets in the area. For breakfasts, I especially like the omelets to order prepared by Alex on weekend mornings. Hard to go wrong with this place, the variety of good offerings is so large.

Of course I don't expect much out of buffet chain but I am not coming back. I used to go there a while ago when i was extremely hungry. But i stopped for some reason. And after last Wednesday i realized why. I went there with my friend. It was disgusting. Sticky tables. Dirty dishes. Disgusting environment. I guess you should be extremely hungry to be satisfied. Otherwise you would be highly disappointment.

I used love Fairfax Old Country Buffet for its value and variety of food, but today's visit in quite a while was very disappointing. Only salad bar, fried chicken, and deserts were decent, most other selections were dry, salty and tasteless. Hope OCB has a turnaround, otherwise I think they could be losing a lot of customers.

I always use email coupons. Price - okay Variety of food - compare to price, decent Environment - not bad Like it

Look for their coupons in magazines for bundle deals and such. Make sure your plates and utensils are clean - as well as your table. Food selection is wide but somewhat low in quality.

Went here with a few people for lunch just for the convenience. It was about 9 dollars for the lunch buffet. I'm pretty sure this place was designed to be the perfect buffet for cheap and icky food. As I'm writing this I'm having trouble remembering exactly what I ate yesterday...probably because my brain is actually trying to forget what I ate. I remember...tacos...chicken...fried shrimp..some beef...sausage? Honestly the food is a 5/10 on a taste scale. The variety is trash; I've seen better at equally priced buffets. I think Great American has a better selection and better tasting food (though the range in taste isn't too far off.) If you want to gorge on cheap food then come here by all means...though honestly they should charge like 5 or 6 dollars for anyone to come here regardless of their age. The atmosphere is kind of eh too. The people are...eh. I don't want to be mean. I don't know, it seemed like everyone at the place had this 'I'm here to gorge on cheap food but I feel guilty being here of all places.' I've never been to a buffet that had this type of atmosphere before, so it felt kind of strange...or maybe I was subconsciously weird that day. The ONE thing that I can actually rave about is their ice cream. I don't know what the hell they put in there but they got some smootha** soft-serve that was absolutely the best ice cream I've had within the NOVA area buffets. Chocolate and/or vanilla flavored as you would expect, with sprinkles and cookies and fruity pebbles or whatever. They also have like 3 sauces. Oh, and lastly, their lava cake is pretty damn good. Though the only other lava cake I've ever tried were the pizza hut (or was it Dominoes?) ones. These both gave these guys the extra star. All in all, a bit overpriced for what you get, crappy diversity in food, weird atmosphere, ok food, great ice cream machine, great lava cake, other desserts sucked. I would've rather spent less money at like Cici's or something. Would go again!...if it was free.

If could find half a start I would choose. Never think about it. Quality is Zero here. I would recommend it if you have few bucks and you want to fill up your stomach. I tried almost everything, the desert was not bad. Finally, if you care about the cleanness don't come.

    (1)
  • Mosa S.

This is one the worst locations I've been to. The steak is the worst I've ever had. Too salty and fatty. The selection is really just down right horrible. So many items are dry and have a nasty film on the top from sitting out for a long time. The only location I actually walked out somewhat satisfied was Potomac Mills. I would never eat at any OCB unless I had BOGO.

    (2)
  • Mark Y.

I don't usually get a steak there. But this time I was lucky they had Ribs ! They were so good that I have to give a good rating. The deserts were pretty descent as well.

    (4)
  • Anna K.

OMG the fried chicken is so delicious! They don't have that many items to choose from, but mostly everything is pretty good. The deserts were not overly super sweet, which I like a lot. Overall a good eat for a fair price!

  • Scarlet K.

I've been an Old country buffet fan since I was a kid. I like the variety of food menu. I am not too big of a fan of the sweets section. I will continue to pop in here :)

Disgusting!!! Went there on Christmas Day after confirming the restaurant would be open. Was told they would serve Beef at the carving station, along with steak, turkey, shrimp, etc. They lied! We were there at 1PM and the only thing they were carving was ham and polish sausage, AND both were so salty they could not be eaten. I asked for the manager and inquired about the other items we were told would be served. He apologized and said "we ran out"???? At 1PM???? NUTS! Everything else they had was pretty poor. Wedge potatoes were burned to a crisp. Macaroni and cheese was runny and taste-less. What a waste of time and money. Thanks for ruining our Christmas Meal, OCB!

    (1)
  • Bevra K.

The salad bar is one of the best I've ever seen, with a large variety of fresh ingredients. They have cut back on the types of lettuce they offer. My husband likes their soups. The fried chicken is outstanding, and the dessert bar is better than at most buffets. Vegetables are often overcooked, but that's the southern way. Quality has suffered a bit as prices have risen. There are fewer customers, and who knows which is cause and which is effect. OCB is a great place to take kids, and you can get a real bargain meal, especially if you skip the beverage bar.

    (4)
  • Kirk R.

We have been eating at the Fairfax OCB for several years now. This is good old American comfort food with lots of variations, including many, many choices of desserts, a taco bar, an extensive salad bar, etc. The food is usually pretty good and if you find the occasional stale item, there are many more to choose from. I have taken to trying the breakfast bar on the weekends and you have a wide variation of Denny's type items as well as salads and fruit. Age 55+ seniors should be aware that on Mon-Fri they can get a lunch with beverage for only $7 if you arrive after 1PM. The staff is always very helpful and the "servers" are attentive; be sure to tip a couple of dollars to the servers who pick up your plates and bus your tables.

    (4)
  • paul k.

When they had the Mongolian stir fry, it was my wife's and my favorite dish. We looked forward to dining at OCB. Then that was discontinued, likely to save on labor. Now just normal, not very distinctive or flavorful buffet fare. Fried chicken is good. Rest is so-so. As a veteran, I got a free meal (lunch) on Veterans' Day. So unimpressive I would not go back even if it were free again. BOGO for dinner is not an attractive deal either. If there were a Golden Corral nearby, this Old Country Buffet location would be out of business.

  • Ken U.

Had not been to this place in two years because of mediocre experiences. Decided to return to check out buzz about new management improvements. Pleasantly surprised at cleanliness and improved menu. Quality and selection were better than any previous visits. Lunch was an incredible bargain at the senior rate. Made a meal of the fried chicken breasts!

  • Kaiyi H.

The smell of steak cooking in the evenings does overpower the smell of old people, but it does nothing to mitigate the general ambiance of poverty and decreptitude. The excessive sodium and breading stupefies the taste buds and perhaps the brain, but hey you get what you pay for. The ROI isn't great because you can barely eat enough of crap Americana to get your money back.

    (3)
  • A D.

I've been going here for over 10 years! It's a buffet so don't expect a 5 star meal, but for the location and selection...I can't complain! I love the steaks and country fried chicken, they've never gone wrong with any of those. My only complaint is that they charge extra for drinks when they didn't used to.

    (4)
  • Julia A.

Definitely appreciate the amount of food they keep streaming at the buffet. The quality was as expected - okay, nothing special. The best part about this place is the sheer amount of food that is always available. It is definitely a place for someone who is famished and needs a quick fix. However, if you are looking for better food and a cleaner place, stop by elsewhere.

I don't expect much from a chain of buffets. Old Country is cheap and it fills you up. They have a salad bar if you want to eat healthy (But who does when they go to a buffet?) I like coming here for breakfast cause they can make you an omelette. They have an icee machine which means you can get unlimited icee's. If you are expecting top notch food don't come here. Food here is cheap but you get what you pay for.

    (3)
  • M C.

super cheap, horrible food. I would only go here if I was about to starve.

The place is disgusting, bad food, poor service and manager didn't have a good attitude. Never going back!

    (1)
  • Dianet G.

We used to go here a lot. It was a good place to take kids. You got what you paid for and it was not that bad. While the food has not changed much, the price certainly has. At $11.99 the dinner price is now too high for what they offer. I also noticed that there were less/cheaper selections this evening. The place was overall dirtier and the urine smell in the bathroom was quite pungent. It does make me sad to see this place go even more downhill.

    (2)
  • Howard M.

Was less then I expected. Decided to go the other night for dinner with my wife. Issues I encountered: 1. When I was at the grill and asked the cook what kind of steak he was cooking, it seemed like he didn't understand me and just stuck a slab on meat on my plate and then turned away. 2. The food trays portions were very small they were very slow to refill them. 3. Very few of the types of food were labeled. 4. The table cleaning staff was horrible, the folks sitting next to us had left and their table wasn't cleaned at all, when we left 30 minutes later, the table was still dirty and their plates were sitting there. Not sure what I really expected for a $10 buffet, but it definitely could have been better.

    (2)
  • Johnnie P.

The dishes were all dirty and were ready for people to take.. I was so disgusted, other than that I loved the food. Tasted good and loved how you can have steak!

    (4)
  • Linda C.

Ate there last night. Manager helpful in seating our party of seven. Steak medium rare was tasty but needed more char. Soda Fountain on one side out of order so couldn't drink caffeine free coke. Soft ice cream machines also not working melted all over. But love soup and salad bars, taco bars. Noise levels not as loud this visit.

I have been going to this Old Country Buffet in the Fair City Mall off and on for years. The prices for this casual restaurant are inexpensive, although I think it's weird that they charge separately for drinks now. Of course, you want drinks to go with your meal, unless you drink only water. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Monday through Friday and also for breakfast on the weekend. We go not for the taste of the food but the wide variety and the opportunity to have an all-you-can-eat pig-out. Typical foods are macaroni, chicken, fish, meatloaf, pizza, french fries, salad, fruit, sodas, etc. The cashiers and the people who clear the tables have always been nice to us.

    (3)
  • Julian V.

All you can drink Icees? Count me in! This place is very inexpensive, and the steak was surprisingly good. Make sure you get a piece closer to medium rare though. You should know that buffets are usually pretty disappointing places. I think I lowered my expectations about this place so it seemed like it was okay. All things considered, it really wasn't bad considering it's a buffet. Just know what you're getting yourself into before you go.

    (4)
  • Adam F.

The quality of food matches the price. The salads and Mexican food were not good, but the steak and chicken were really tasty. The service was decent, but not great. Great selection of desserts.

    (3)
  • Alex M.

I guess you get what you pay for. I don't think they even wash the dishes before they put them out. Disgusting place and food.

  • Eric N.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I've been going to this chain ever since I was a little kid (not this particular location though.) The prices for buffet here is cheap. $8 all you can eat for lunch. They basically have all your typical American comfort foods. Nothing special, but at least its cheap! You don't come here for the dining experience. Just to stuff yourself. Pretty large dessert area too and theres also a taco salad area now. Come here if you're not trying to break the bank. Don't come if you can do better.

I would have given this place a solid 3 starts but the place was filthy. I don't know why some restaurants use carpets. The place had a bad smell of B.O. the entire time I was there and I can almost guarantee that most of it comes from the dirty carpets. It doesn't help when the bussers are wiping scraps off of the tables right onto the floor and no one bothers to sweep the floors. Enough about that and on to the food. You get what you pay for so don't expect the greatest food for 7 or 10 bucks. The ICEE machine is pretty cool though. I thought the selection was pretty good with a little bit of everything. The fried and baked chicken was pretty good and the grilled kielbasa sausages were very tasty. Stay away from the shrimp linguini and spaghetti. Average salad bar, good selection of desserts with mediocre execution. My favorite part of the buffet was the taco/nacho station in which you can make nachos, hard tacos, soft tacos or anything else you can think of. For the price, you can't really complain too much. I only ask that the place be somewhat sanitary and clean.

Moving up to about 3 - 3 1/2 stars for the food has somewhat improved, but not by much. Came here on Thursday the 18th of August with the Family and had some lunch. They now have their version of 'White Castle' Burgers here. The Cheeseburgers though were dry and really had no flavor, but once you put whatever toppings on them, then they are not too bad. Food does need to improve though, as well as the Desserts. It's the same things over and over again. Wish they would put some new items on the Buffet tables for everyone to enjoy.

This location has excellent service. The manager is visible and greets the guest at their tables. The staff is friendly. The food choices are excellent. The Fair City Mall is awesome compared to Alexandria route 1

As other have said, you don't go to Old Country Buffet for the quality of the food. You come for the quantity and price. I haven't been here for dinner in years, but I've been here for lunch many times. I think the reason it's called Old Country Buffet is because only OLD people like to come here. Hey why not go if they'll give you a senior discount? =) I swear every time we go for lunch, the young folks are out numbered by the old folks =) O.K., back to the food. There are many choices to choose from. Just about everybody can find something to eat, this is usually out last place choice when none of us can decide where to go. There is a large salad bar, lots of hot dishes to choose from, and lot of desserts. Overall this is a average place to eat at in Fairfax. You really can't beat the price. Where else can you get all the choices for $8 for all you can eat during lunch? Like most people I know they usually stuff themselves here. So park far away and walk. The parking lot is usually full due to the other businesses in the strip.

meh, it was okay. maybe it was b/c i went when it was about to close, but it could be better. i took a quick walk around before getting any food, as i always do at buffets, and there was nothing that i really wanted. eventually, i just decided to get what seemed best out of what was there. however, they did have steak and a stir fry station, which was nice. even better, the chefs were quite nice. they did seem to have a wide variety of food, but there wasn't much stuff that stood out as being great. i had the steak..which was a bit bland; stir fry, which was okay..shouldn't have gotten chicken tho..didnt taste much; mac and cheese was watery, but m&c is always good; carrot cake was incredibly sweet; soft serve icecream..whatd you expect? oh man, i went to the bathroom (and good thing I only had to urinate), b/c the toilet was DISGUSTING. looked like someone ate a stick of dynamite and it went off just as he was about halfway sitting onto the toilet seat.

Our family has been going to this OCB for many years. Back when the kids were young, and we couldn't seem to fill them up, this was the place to go. The food was actually pretty good, especially the fish and fresh veggies. The taco bar is great and they have a made to order omelette station at breakfast. The meatloaf and fried chicken are delish! I'm so sorry to say that's it's really been going downhill lately. They have stopped serving quite a few dishes that were good, especially at lunch. I know that they merged with another buffet restaurant and maybe this is why everything has changed. I could deal with that, but...the deal BREAKER is that the carpet in that place is so old and dirty that it emits a sour smell..sort of like after a flood. I've told the manager several times and he doesn't seem concerned. The last time we went there, the smell was so bad that I couldn't eat my food and had to leave. Also, the manager was wearing a very dirty shirt and looked like he'd worked 19 shifts without stopping. Sorry to say, we won't be going back...

An OCB is an OCB. Cafeteria style food for a cheap price. We go here when we're broke and it serves its purpose. I only give this location 3 stars because of the steak. Its actually pretty good. The employees at this location are not helpful at all, so dont try to ask any questions about the food they're serving...seriously...they have answered me in spanish more than once here. Major problem for me since IM AN IRISH GIRL FROM NEW JERSEY. Im sure we'll head back next time we are broke but we know better than to expect decent service here

This place is alright with me. 10.29 for all you can eat! And they have icees! The dessert bar sucks so does the fruit selection, but honestly who comes here for that. My fav was the rolls and the steak. You know how Latinos have that thin cut steak and it's perfect seasoned. that's the type of steak I had here. It was so good. They only cut me one little sliver. Not cool. So I returned to the meat line 3x. They have a decent selection of food. They even have a taco/nacho bar. Which I have never seen in a buffet like this. Soft serve icecream and yogurt. They seem to have a hard time keeping the silverware stocked, so you may want to hold onto your fork when they take your finished plates away.

There isn't much good here. Tends to be crowded. Food isn't that good either. I can barely find anything good to eat. Some of the foods are very greasy. The service is great but food not so much. It's sort of like fast food buffet style

This used to be our favorite dining place on weekends. This year, the quality, cleanliness and variety of foods have declined, the price has significantly increased, the place has become untidy and smelly, the female cashier with a really bad attitude and the obnoxious fat guy in the steak counter have all ruined it for us. The last time we went to celebrate a birthday event on a weekend, there were few people in the restaurant where there used to be long lines to get in and the place buzzing with customers. It's no surprise considering the changes I've noted above. We will never go back to this place again, even though we'll miss the nice staff there like Maria, Abdul, Alex and Camila.

I came here yesterday (Friday) with my family of 6. This place is 9.99 every day for dinner (I'm not too sure about lunch and breakfast). First off, the food selection is not as big as I thought it would be. Before I came here, I got on yelp and tried to find out what kinds of foods there was going to be. The website did not help at all and noone seemed to list down the food selection. Therefore, I believe it would be helpful to list a few entrees The buffet included cornbread, cinnamon roll, mash potatoes, steak, fish, breaded chicken, fried shrimp, taco bar (pretty big), bbq beans, green beans, corn, baked chicken, mac and cheese, pizza, french fries, carrots, salad bar, garlic bread, dinner rolls, soups (french onion, chicken noodle, new england clam chowder), garlic & shrimp pasta, etc. -- To be honest, I expected full out traditional American comfort foods. The food selection was pretty limited. I only tried a few things because some of the foods looked to oily, fattening, or it was something I would eat on a normal to day basis. The quality of the food from 1-5? I would say about a 2... So why did I give Old Country Buffet a 2 as oppose to a one? Well, the ice cream machines are pretty good. One had a choice of orange sorbet, fat free vanilla yogurt, chocolate soft serve or vanilla soft serve. The toppings include oreo, sprinkles, chocolate/strawberry/butterscotch syrup. The dessert buffet included cookies (looked really rubberish. yes RUBBERISH), rice crispies (really hard), mocha cakes, molten lava cake (DELICIOUS), carrot cake (way too sweet), apple pie, sugar cookies, peach cobbler, etc. All and all, I would not come back to old country buffet. Although buffets are usually about quantity, the food there was so bad I didn't want to eat a lot of it. If you are ever forced to go there or just want to go there...try the Vanilla ice cream with molten lava cake! :) It may be the best thing there!

We were here at Sunday night around 6, and took more than 30 minutes to find a table for us. Very busy. Price is not too bad. $10.29 for adult. Beverage is $1.98 extra. The salad have lots of options, but not many types of fruit. The fried chicken was really really good. Crispy skin with juicy meat. Highly recommended. The steak was not too bad. However, I ask for medium well and medium at different trips, but both time got very well done. Fried shrimp and fish had very thick breading. Corn soup tasted pretty decent. For drinks, they have soda, milk, cappuccino, tea,... Lots of options for food, but the place is really messy and does not smell too good. Service was OK. It's not easy find parking.

In my experience the food has been great and is the best buffet in NoVa by far. For dinner they have unlimited good steak, fried chicken, ham, roast beef, fried shrimp, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and much more. I hear the breakfast is great to.

Sorry, just not that good. Was going to give it two stars, but consider they actually made okay pad thai noodles when I went and that you can go get drinks yourself at anytime, I'll give it an extra star. I remember them being better before, not sure why. I'll head out here when I feel lazy and hungry. That's about it. Otherwise, I'll probably go elsewhere.

The food is pretty bad... but anybody who knows anything about OCB knows that you come here for quantity, not quality. I've been to several OCB's in my life, and I knew what to expect, and this one pretty much met my expectations as far as the food goes - typical american buffet food - lots of fried stuff, some meat stuff (though they did have a carving station, and the steak from there wasn't too bad), salad bar, and dessert station. I think the main reason one would choose to eat here is the price, and that is what I base my rating on. If I paid the regular price ($11 dinner for adults or $8 lunch), I would give this place two stars. After all, that comes out to $26 for two, and honestly, I think I could get full at those prices at a place with much better quality food (think your local pho place). Since we had a coupon that reduced those prices to about $20 for two, that makes it about average (3 stars). I've seen coupons that would reduce those prices even further to about $12 for two, which at that price, I would give this place four stars. Basically, don't eat here if you are paying full price because it's not worth it, but if you have a coupon for this place, then consider it. A couple of notes about the food: the nacho cheese sauce was very thin, almost like cheese flavored water, but the dessert selection that they had was pretty impressive.

Eh, I grew up eating at Old Country Buffet although this is the first time I've been here since it moved from its old location on the other side of the theater. It's comfort food, not necessarily quality food. You basically got your old people infestation as well as Asian families. Those of you who follow my reviews know that I'm not a food snob. If it tastes good, I'll eat it. I'm that guy at the 7-11 chowing down on Big Bites fully loaded. Apparently, for the dinner hour, they had steak, ribs, and link sausage. Not bad. Hell, I've had worse steak in non-all you can eat places. They have a pretty fresh salad bar if you're into that sort of thing or if you need to flush out the meat from your system. They also have fried chicken, mini cheeseburgers, and hotdogs. All of them are decent and will fill you up. The vegetable options are basically stuff you'd find at a Boston Market and enough to make a meal out of. The thing I love about OCB is the dessert section. It's never a let down. Soft serve, frozen yogurt, and a variety of baked goods. The place is pretty clean. Basically, it is what it is. Food snobs are going to hate it. Those who are down and dirty are going to like it. In this economy, OCB ain't a bad option.

Been there three times now, with each visit I'd wonder why I came back again. The steaks tasted very charred, and yes, I also noticed the sour smell of the carpet. Buffets are bad for you, especially this one.

The quality of food was very poor but I was starving so as long as it was warm I was able to consume it. But I will never come back here, but for $10 bucks what can you say.......

  • Yan W.

After the location change, I was convinced to give it another try. In summary, you get what you pay for, so don't expect much, but what you get is good value. I got one of those cheapo coupons in the newspaper and everything was so-so. Not great, but cheap. The steak was decent and the lava cake were the two best things I remembered. It's also pretty fun to gnaw on a rib bone that's bigger than your arm and stuff your face and not have people stare... The tacos and other items from that region were really dry. And you really can't go wrong with all you can eat soft serve. Like all the other reviews mention, the place is full of Asians and oldies. Not that that's a bad thing, it's just a hilarious clientele combo. I think going here once every three years when I'm really hungry is a good idea, but anymore than that would be too much for my tastes.

Wow. I haven't been to Old Country Buffet since I was a teenager. My father would always take me and my younger sisters here (and Sizzler in Fairfax before they closed) as a ploy to spend "quality time" together. I didn't complain back then, but if my estranged father were to invite me back to this epicurean hellhole, I'll pass. My father took us to Old Country Buffet because it was family-friendly (i.e. not vegetarian-friendly) and affordable (i.e. quantity over quality). If you have a billion starving kids (or if you're a totalitarian dictator of a country in sub-Saharan Africa), Old Country Buffet is a partially decent choice. Expect to wait in a long line for a table on weekends. Children hate waiting, so bring their disposable expensive doohickeys for the sake of others. The place gets jam-packed like 66 West after the Vienna exit. Their lamp-heated food options are expansive but usually unhealthy, even some of their vegetables are doused in butter. Old Country Buffet is definitely not a place to practice and preach about healthy eating habits. Kids are going to choose "Barbeque Bacon Cheddar Chicken" over steamed vegetables any time (I know I did). Childhood obesity can easily be sustained here. I rate this dining hall (because that's what it is) two stars ONLY because Old Country Buffet serves a purpose: to fill the bellies of families and senior citizens all the while bringing them together to eat in awkward silence. Where in United States of America would you consistently find integration of elderly Caucasian senior citizens and Asian families? Old Country Buffet. Melting pot of America. :) I have a reason why Asians frequent OCB. Asian families eat Asian food at home everyday. So, OCB offers something different, something American. I still haven't figured out why so many senior citizens go there. Food is decent and there are lots of it. I love their fried chicken for some reason. Salad bar is pretty good. And they serve grilled steaks for dinner and on weekends. Best dessert combination is their bread pudding with soft serve ice cream with black coffee. Sign up on their website and receive a complimentary dinner coupon.

Old Country Buffet is to "American" food as a Chinese Buffet is to "Chinese" food in that it presents a culturally stereotypical cross-section of "cuisine" but isn't necessarily what is eaten on a daily basis. Old Country Buffet does offer a diverse selection of decently prepared foods but everything sort of hovers in the "old favorites" genre. The offerings seem aimed at kids, or the kid inside of us, with a who's who of childhood favorites, including mac & cheese, pizza, taco bar, cinnamon rolls, chicken nuggets and ice cream. There are more "adult" foods, like the surprisingly tasty and satisfying cut of steak that I had, but overall it really feels like a place where you throw health, etiquette and sensibility to the wind and fill up on foods that make you feel warm and cozy, and/or bloated. Overall the strength of Old Country Buffet is the variety and not quality but all foods were definitely acceptable with only a few really offending my tastebuds (cheesecake and fake mashed potatoes). It's definitely an excellent value for the relatively low price. Kids under 12 cost less than a dollar so it makes for a great family spot.

I actually love this buffet. Not because the price is great, but my kids get to choose what they want to eat. I love giving my kids choices just because each of them is so different. And just because it's a buffet, I do not stuff my kids, but teach them how to eat with just enough portions and not waste food. Its nice.

went to this old country buffet this noon for brunch. had a very poor experience. poor selections! it's also horrifying that they charge for drinks. it's a buffet place, and plus drinks are water mixing with syrups. My suggestion is, DO NOT EAT THERE! p.s The only meat I can find there was beef, fried chicken, and the tiny fake pop corn shrimp.

This place really reminds me of my childhood ... having dinner at hometown buffet, but with steak. its a great place for picky eaters like my niece. Its $11 for a dults and $0.60 per child's age. so if your child is 5 then you pay $3. [.60 x 5] ... the fried chicken was extremely juicy, it just came out of the kitchen. the battered fish was not so great, too much batter. However, the ice cream does not taste too sugary as well, and there are numerous different toppings. pretty good for the cheap price.

Went here for lunch one weekend after a movie, disappointed because they don't have a steak or any meat dishes on Weekends they just serve it at dinner. Just fried chicken and some meatloaf and I can tell right away that there was not a lot of people hovering around or lining up at the meat section. Just skipped desert just had fruits.

I'm a fan of Old Country Buffet..I used to come here when I was little and just recently went there again and realized how much I missed the food. It's not the best tasting food but its pretty decent and the prices are great! There is so much to choose from, you can even make your own taco. I reccomend that you go here if you have a huge appetite but dont want to break the bank!

Why is it that this place serving FOOD and cooking it, continues to be allowed unsanitary and nasty eating conditons and bathroom facilities?where are our inspectors? I do not go here anymore sadly due to the last time I had to use the ladies room and almost got sick from the stinch and filth. I told the management and they could not have been more uncaring. Disgraceful . I, too saw dirty aprons, clothing on servers, soiled everything. I left without eating and have not been back. I ate at our local OCB weekly in Colorado and it was clean, new due to constant upkeep, and a delight just to eat there. Many people planned holidays around the food there. As for this location in VA, I fear for food poisoning seriously for anyone eating at the location.....I got sick both times I ate there; finally figuring out it was from this; another reason I do not go back. Please let me say that I am being this honest out of respect and concern for the people who do chose to eat here, I hope one day mgmt, reads these and cares....I love OCB 's and miss being able to take my family to one since moving here. Please please OCB owners, CARE about your restaurant.

Went here tonight. Per person, it was $15 for the buffet plus a drink. The food selection is varied, but they could have more. There's the salad bar, taco bar, some soups, a sliced meat and grill station, hot food, and a dessert station. I had about 4 plates of the same thing (my favorites and probably your best bets): fried chicken, rice, green beans, pasta salad, and mac n cheese. They weren't the best of each, but I think they were the best from what was offered. Dessert was much better. Still not the best, but they had some great looking bread pudding and coconut creampie. This place is not fancy. They're playing "Celebrate Good Times" right now. It's that kind of place. The furniture seems like the same style they had in the 90s and early 2000s, but the place is clean and well kept, and the servers and grillers were polite and respectful. It definitely does not deserve just 1 star. What do these reviewers expect for a $15 all-you-can-eat buffet? The typical customers are seniors, lower-middle class, and minorities. It's not for foodies and picky eaters. I wouldn't come frequently, but I will be back.

My family of five went to OCB last Thursday. We were surprised right off that the fresh carved meats and fresh grilled meats were not out. My wife asked about them and was offered to accept $3 off next time or to get our money back and leave. By that time kids had already moved to the food bars and it was toooo late. The food bars were just nasty dirty (see pictures) and often empty with little or no fresh items presented. I recommend avoiding the desert, salad and taco bars if you go. Finding clean plates and utensils proved a second challenge. The hot served food were better attended and kept stocked but not clean. I covertly snapped some pictures, intending to share them with the Corp office who seemed uninterested in how awful their restaurant is being managed. When I complained to Corp they sent me back a "canned response" email about how they take complaints seriously. If you like OCB you should go now before it's too late, people will not eat regularly in places that look like this. I personally hate to see it fail, as I have good memories of how it used to be

Me and my now wife used to frequent this location fairly often when we lived in Annandale. Back a little over a year ago the food was good, the food bars were always kept clean, the bathrooms were kept in good order, and the price was reasonable. Yesterday me and my wife happened to be back in town and decided to hit up the OCB again for old time's sake. This was a mistake First, the "Grill" is no longer part of the standard meal. To get steak, ham, etc it's an additional charge on top of the standard meal. When I saw the bill of $37 for two people to eat I should have turned around right there, but my wife had her heart set on her steak salad she likes to make. The next thing to disappoint me was the state of the restaurant itself. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a day and a half of heavy use. Straw wrappers, balled up, used napkins, and other garbage all over the floor, puddles of soda etc., you name it. The food bars weren't in much better shape either. The salad bar was a wreck with all the food invading each other's containers, and the blue cheese dressing was actually spoiled! Also remember how they used to have real bacon bits? Yeah no, you're getting bacos. But the worst part, BY A MILE, were the bathrooms. The men's room looked/smelled like it was hosed down with urine, and all the toilets in all the stalls were covered with bits of toilet paper and feces. I covered my face and went in to use a urinal, only to find that the urinals had a full blown puddles of urine under them. Truly disgusting. You may be thinking "Maybe he caught it during a shift change on like a Tuesday afternoon...". Nope, this was a Sunday during the lunch rush, when a restaurant should be putting it's best face forward for the church going crowd looking for a post service meal. Truly no excuse, we wont be going back.

Haven't been here in a while. Still the same buffet as I remember - home of the hungry. Good price (especially with coupons) to fill up on a wide selection of food that is generally pretty good and always the same. If you don't like paying $5 for an icee at a movie theater like me, get a beverage cup and fill up on the icee and other refreshments.
