I wanted to give this place more stars. I have ordered a whole chicken several times now from this place both delivery and carry out. The reasoning for my 2 stars only is- each time i order a whole chicken they give me one small container of the white and green sauce and when i ask for more the cashier always responds with we have big containers for purchase. I would think when i order a family meal that is meant for 4 people i would get enough sauce for everyone and not have to pay 4.99 extra for sauce. Places like guopos leave the sauces out and your free to take as much as you need at no additional charge.

Had the buffalo wings there. Nasty. They were cold dry and the wings looked old. Bones were black and nasty. No flavor either. This is enough to keep me from ever going back. Stay away from wings. Place was empty too. No wonder.

Bottom Line Up Front: A good delivery option for South Riding, but otherwise just okay. My wife and I both work, so we look for places around South Riding that provide delivery or take-out options that satisfy us and appeal to our picky-eating kids. Backyard Rotisserie has become one of our stand-bys for a few reasons: 1. Value. A whole chicken with two small salads and some fries is $15. 2. The chicken. Occasionally a bit dry, but usually moist and tasty. 3. The sides. I like the plantains, and my wife and stepdaughter like the baked potatoes. And my stepdaughter likes the mac&cheese (although it looks to me like Kraft with some melted cheddar on top). 4. The convenience. Delivered to your door, usually in well under 30 minutes. I can't vouch for the rest of the menu - haven't tried the sandwiches or other options. I found the pupusas to be pretty mediocre. But for what they provide, I find Backyard to be a good value and very convenient. We'll continue to patronize, if only because they fill a unique niche among delivery options in South Riding.

Tasted fine looked fine when I ate here today with a couple of my friends. We all ate meat from here and got sick after. Me and one of my friends got the carane asada and the other got a hamburger. We all texted each other with upset stomachs afterwards... I felt bad bringing my friend who is PREGNANT here. Won't be coming here again.. Obviously it had no one else eating there for a reason.

I used to work in South Riding, and will definitely miss having this place as a lunch option. The manager is so friendly and always asks how my weekend/day is going. The fries are SO good. And the chicken melt is delish, they also have this new sandwich with guac on it that is amazing. I will be making special trips to south riding to get backyard every once in a while now that I can't get this whenever I want to!

We got food from here twice. And this review is after the second time. The first time I would have probably given it one star. The chicken seemed tasteless and dry. There was a green sauce that came with it that was pretty tasty, but that was the extent of it. We had some sides to go with it, that were that unmemorable. Yesterday we just needed to grab some food anywhere. I wanted to go to Moe's and get some tacos but they were obviously having an event of some sort. The line was literally OUT the door. Right...in South Riding??? I dunno. So thats how we find ourselves at Backyard Rotisserie. I let my husband order the food and I went to Food Lion to pick up a couple of things. We get our order and go home. Tacos were pretty decent. I think I was thinking it was going to awful so when it wasn't I was pleasantly surprised. Their service I can't really comment to, but for their average tacos, I give them two stars. They need to do something different..... maybe get some different decor and make their place not seem so dingy and dark. Overall, I doubt we'll be back. Unless we just can't get into anywhere else...like last night.

Good rotisserie option in the South Riding area. Love the yuka and accompanying sauces!!!

Went here for lunch with some coworkers. Place was a ghost town at 12pm, when we arrived their was only two other people sitting in a booth, not shocking considering its location, residential neighborhood, I'm sure dinner time is their busy time. I we all got the 1/2 chicken meal (white meat) which came with a small salad and fries, oddly enough the drink is extra! The salad dressing was "ok", nothing to write home about, it's a kinda creamy, zesty Italian, french fries were standard, again nothing to write home about. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the skin mildly charred. I didn't eat the skin so I can't comment on its taste but the chicken was good. Bottom line, I'd go back with a group from work again but I wouldn't on my own. I really can't get over the fact that a fountain drink is extra when purchasing a meal, although water is free.

Perfectly standard - that's how I would describe their rotisserie chicken. It is well spiced, good meat, nice flavor. If you were new to rotisserie chicken like I was, this a good place to go get baselined, experience the standard - but then go off and try some Peruvian/Brazilian chicken places. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and as expected the place was bare of other people. The staff was friendly, it was clean, and smelled delicious. The salad and sides were fine. Nothing to complain or whine about. Like several other South Riding places, it has it's place in the rotation, but near the bottom of the order. If you like chicken (and are in the area) - you should absolutely try this place.

I went here to get dinner for take out. My husband has wanted to try this because we anticipated it to be more of a "Peruvian" chicken type of restaurant. However, we were somewhat disappointed. The only saving grace is the "secret" sauce. We ordered two items: a half chicken (upgraded for $1), yucca fries, with a side salad, and we also go the chicken gyro sandwich (pita). All the flavors were there.. but the chicken gyro was just WAY too salty. And there wasn't enough veggies or tatziki to counter it. The half chicken had nice flavor, but was so incredibly dry. The fries were crunchy and coated with some sort of salt, sugar, cinnamon mixture. All of the food tasted like it had just been reheated when we ordered. I don't think I would go back again. It's a valiant effort for a South riding restaurant.

You can get a 1/2 rotisserie chicken, a substitute side of yucca (only $1 extra), a chicken melt, and a chicken gyro both served with a side of fries for about $21 delivered to your door in about 20-30 minutes. Pretty good deal right? I thought so. I didn't care for either the chicken melt or chicken gyro here. Stick with their speciality -- the rotisserie chicken seasoned with Peruvian spices. I found the jalapeno pepper sauce a bit too Americanized for my taste (it lacked that kick). The yucca is definitely a must-order. They cook it to perfection here -- crisp and crinkly on the outside, soft and moist on the inside. The service over the phone was indifferent, but friendly enough. However, the lady that delivered my order was quite nice. This is a pretty decent delivery/take-out go-to if you're lookin' for quick eats in the South Riding area.

This place is average. The food is pretty good and their service is ehh. I like their gyro and fries, but If you are looking for traditional Peruvian chicken this is not the spot to try. Their yuca tastes like its from the freezer. Their white/yellow sauce they charge .25 per small container which is ridiculous -- I've been to plenty of other spots where you pay a dollar they give you 8-10 and its better sauce! Overall I don't mind coming here every now and then, but its not my first choice.

Hubby picked up take-out from Backyard last night. I thought the food was good. We ordered sides of rice & beans, 1/2 of a rotisserie chicken and a few chicken wings. I was surprised at how spicy the beans were, as my 2.5 year old quickly let us know. Being Puerto Rican, I thought their beans would have been perfect if they weren't so spicy. I still enjoyed them, along with the rice. The chicken was decent, though I was expecting something a little more succulent. The chicken wings were hot/spicy, just as we expected. Overall I thought it was a good meal choice for last night.

The service here was great, but the food, not so much. The chicken was really dry and not really that flavorful.
