It's a good place to grab a bite to eat, but nothing special in my opinion. I mean I had no problem with this place. The food was solid. The service was adequate and the price was within reason for the area. All of that being said, I must also comment that nothing stood out as extraordinary that would make me bump up the rating. If I am with a group of people and they want to go here, I wouldn't object. I may visit here on occasion when I am seeking some variety in my fast food diet, but I don't really see it being my go-to burger spot.

Everytime I eat at a GSE in DC or Crystal City - which is rare... I ask myself why? Why? WHY? It's a pretentious "quality" burger joint pretending to be an average burger joint but BUT serving less than average tasting greasy @ss burgers and fries. What's the point of better meat source when it's super lubricated. Hmmm I should rephrase this. For the price they could do better. $13 bucks for a burger, fries and a fountain drink. Oh no they didn't. Now the shakes are on point. ..4 Stars all the way.

Just got home from a church youth activity here, and let me say I couldn't be more pleased. As a youth pastor I'm constantly looking for new places for our young people to hang out. Good stuff eatery is the best we've had in awhile. Ryan, the manager did a great job hosting our group of 42. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great. The food was awesome as well. I had the Smokehouse burger and was quite impressed. All of our teens loved what they ordered and thanked us several times for bringing them there. Great food, great service! Shout out to Ryan and his team, thank you so much! You guys did a great job. I will definitely be going back.

My friend and I were in Crystal City area because of a Yelp Elite event. The event wasn't food focus and when led to our hunger after the event. I grabbed my Yelp app and found this place I had booked marked. It was easy to find near Crystal City shops. Upon entering I immediately decided that I wanted the Free Range turkey burger with Spike's village fries. My friend ordered the same thing except she ordered the Michelle Melt turkey burger. We were given pagers that would let us know when our ordered was done. We grabbed a table and headed over for our silverware, napkins, and sauces while we waited. Ohhh the sauces!!! There were quite a few I could choose from for my dipping pleasure. I lovedhe Chipotle and Old Bay the best. I will say that the dipping wasn't as great with the Spike's village fries compared if I would have ordered Sunny's hand cut fries. I only say this because of the seasoning used in Spike's village fries was overwhelming at times. Now lets talk about the turkey burger. My burger was done to perfection. I was impressed because the turkey burger was actually flavorful and juicy. Sometimes I noticed at other places turkey burgers can be bland and dry. My friend said her turkey burger was dry but the other items on the burger made up for it. If I didn't have dairy issues I would have been all over their shakes. It seemed a lot of people got that memo because the majority of the restaurant was sipping on something delicious. That being a yummy shake or draft beer.

This was my first visit to Good Stuff Eatery. It seemed busy so I gave it a try. This is a local DC restaurant with 5 locations. It is a funky place, firmly Americana, white-washed rough-hewn floors, TVs here and there, a nice big table front and center for a large group or smaller groups to come together. Orders are taken at the front counter after going through a line adjacent to the grill and cooking area. This a burger place, so I got the Farmhouse Bacon Cheese Burger and fries. It isn't fast food though, my order took 5+ minutes. Food here is right-sized (if you ask me). The bun is small with a nice collection of veggies and toppings that complement the generous (but not over-sized) patty. It was a very well balanced burger and reminded me of local burgers from my childhood. Flavorful but not huge. The fries were artisan style, as well. Cooked but not crisp or crunchy. They were perfectly sprinkled with Kosher salt. Drinks are self serve in an area with all condiments including at least 6 sauces for burgers/fries. In addition to Ketchup and Mustard, there was sriracha, and chipotle sauces, both of which I tried. I was a little surprised, I figured they would both have a pretty good punch of flavor based on the names, but they did not. I was not impressed, I should have just chosen ketchup. They also have shakes and salads, I didn't try either. My burger and fries were plenty filling. I enjoyed Good Stuff Eatery with it's cool vibe (have you seen the logo with it's oddly spotted cow). It's a more gourmet kind of burger place (the prices reflect this) but on the whole the food is creative and tasty.

How I heard of this place: Initially, I had heard of it after going to We, the Pizza, and seeing it directly next door. Then, it came up on the list of Top 40 Dishes Every Washingtonian Must Try. Finally, we drove right by it on our way to the Artomatic last night. Type of cuisine: "Good Stuff Eatery® was inspired by Cathy Mendelsohn and her son Spike's vision for a place where people can enjoy the nostalgia of eating the best of their American favorites: Handcrafted burgers, handcut fries, handspun shakes and farm fresh salads made with the highest quality ingredients." Ambiance: Funky, fun, colorful and abundantly catered towards making everyone feel at home in a cafeteria-like setting. What I ordered: Still full from our lunch-time Iron Chef Party, I was eager to sample only the Toasted Marshmallow Shake ($5.45). My husband chose the Colletti's Smoekhouse Burger ($6.98) with applewood bacon, sharp Vermont cheddar, fried Vidalia onion rings and a chipotle BBQ sauce. The Good Stuff Farmhouse Burgers are topped with farm-fresh ruby-red tomatoes, thinly sliced onion, crisp lettuce and pickles, served on a sweet, buttery soft, freshly baked Pennsylvania dutch bun with a loving spoonful of Good Stuff Sauce. We also enjoyed a snack sized side of Sunny's Handcut Fries ($2.39), topped with sea salt. Mango-Mayo, Chipotle-Mayo, Ketschup, and Saracha-Mayo for dipping, and we were set to go, with our dining companions, who enjoyed hand spun shakes, a burger and a large order of fries ($3.69). What I loved: The burger was fresh, sloppy and richly flavorful. The fries soggy, gooey and perfectly salted. The shake, strange but interestingly addictive. Why I loved it: A large, cafeteria-like setting, where strangers and friends, alike, can enjoy the company of one another at communal tables. The food is great. The service quick. The friendliness of one of the owners a plus. Cost: Average to high ($6.98 - $8.50 per sandwich/burger)

My mom and I stopped in for dinner on a Friday night while in DC on vacation. We were just walking around looking for a random place to eat and got really lucky with Good Stuff! I had the Greek Wedge Salad, snack size Village Fries and a mini Toasted Marshmallow Shake. The salad was not the wedge I was expecting (a big wedge shaped chunk of iceberg lettuce with toppings), but was pleasantly surprised that it was more of a traditional salad and it was super delicious! The Village Fries with thyme and rosemary (dipped in all of the different dips) were AMAZING!! I'm glad I only got the snack size as I don't think I could have stopped eating them at a reasonable amount otherwise. The shake was beyond amazing. It was fun with the big marshmallow on top and what ever the thick creamy vanilla cream flavored dollop on top was made of had to come directly from Heaven...so good! Sadly there are no Good Stuff locations near me, but trust me...I'll be eating here again!

I'm actually not a big fan of the burgers at Good Stuff, but the salads and shakes are really great! The burgers are okay, not awesome and are a bit on the expensive side. The fries kind of suck because they are either over seasoned and they are always soggy. I don't understand what they are doing with the fries. It's worth mentioning that they always have beer on tap. Good Stuff is a nice place to eat. They play good music and have nice seating and branding. I love their cups, I love their tables, I love the way they do things EXCEPT I do not like their crappy baskets that they serve you food in. Honestly they usually put everything in a to-go bag for me, even when I'm dining in. What is the point of that? It's wasteful. I also do not like the cashiers because they always seem preoccupied--they are just spacing out, etc. I mean, when you walk in there are two cash registers and it's not clear which on you should go to, and the cashiers don't help at all. That said, the food is pretty good. I recommend the black and white shake as just plain old awesome. The marshmallow shakes are also good. My favorite menu item is the cobb salad with chicken added. I would eat it every day it is so good, so perfect, except it's probably only mildly healthier than a burger (I'm guessing because it tastes super good). This place can be great for groups because they have some monster long communal tables your group can take over. I love the vibe here. For a fast food place, it's pretty awesome. Fun fact: you can get wifi in this location and many people use it like a coffeeshop to get work done.

Stopped in on a whim while traveling for business. I made a great choice! I got the Spike's Sunnyside burger with fries, my travel companions each got a different burger and fries. We were all very pleased! Amazing burgers and fries, decent price points for the food you get, great beer selection. Highly recommended!

I had a Farmhouse bacon cheeseburger, but skipped the fries. The burger wasn't bad, but was a bit small for the price. Ok for a quick lunch.

I love this restaurant - the hamburgers are fresh and tasty and you get lots of options to choose from. Their dipping sauces are AMAZING! I also really like the modern/hip interior and the fact that there are plenty of places to sit. My bf and I visited on a Friday evening back in early February and we found a great table. We were also able to watch the Olympics Opening Ceremony on their large-screen tvs. I ordered the Prez Obama burger again, as I had last time (when I visited the Capitol Hill location about 2 years ago), and it was really tasty. It came with: Applewood Bacon, Onion Marmalade, Roquefort Cheese & Delicious Horseradish Mayo Sauce. It was decently priced too (around $7). We also ordered a large side of rosemary fries (get the larger size, as the small size is not enough to share for two). The rosemary fries were perfectly garnished with rosemary and some garlic. You have several dipping sauces to choose from, including sriracha mayo (my personal favorite), chipotle mayo, Old Bay mayo, and mango mayo (least favorite). I actually prefer this location to the Capitol Hill location, as it's not as crazy busy and it has a nicer ambiance. It's located conveniently in the Crystal City Underground shopping center. I will certainly visit again next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Holy delicious cow!! I was lured in by the promise of a red velvet milkshake and in a moment of weakness also ordered a burger. I got Spike's Sunnyside....amazeballs. Delicious, juicy, messy, wonderful taste bud explosion. The milkshake.... I can't....I can't talk about it. Just save yourself the trouble and grab a spoon. You'll want to scrape out every last bit and it's more civilized than using your fingers. My only regret was not having room to order fries. There was a good variety of dipping sauces and I wanted to try every one. Oh, and the staff was friendly and cleaning up during the down time. I'll definitely be back. Now I just need to go run 20 miles.

Expensive and just okay for me. The turkey burgers taste kind of off, but I can't really describe the flavor. It just tastes weird. My husband likes their regular burgers but we both think they are kind of small for the price. I really like their regular fries and they have all sorts of dipping sauce options. We tried the rosemary fries once and they were horrid, it was like the top fell off of the shaker while they were seasoning the fries. The shakes are probably the saving grace of this place for me, but it's not really enough to get me to want to go back. I'd rather take a train to Gallery Place and go to Shake Shack.

So this is the second time they have screwed up an order. Asked for Greek Salads with burgers on the side. Nope cant read their own orders. Place has gone down . Their fries are soggy and bland, used to be good. The owner needs to teach the staff how to fry stuff. It wasnt particularly busy or full. Last time for a while till I hear they got their act together. Bathroom is nasty as well.

In anticipation of a snow day, a friend and I grabbed a quick dinner at Good Stuff Eatery; him to avoid the traffic nightmare that is NOVA, me out of convenience to be honest, haha. The food here is pretty straightforward: burgers, shakes, and fries. I went for the steakhouse burger, cooked to a perfect medium and served with roasted cremini mushrooms, fried onion straws, swiss cheese and a tangy aioli. A little messy, but extremely satisfying. My friend opted for the Spike's Sunnyside, which as the name describes, comes with a sunnyside egg, bacon, and cheese. Ordered the village fries as a nice supplement, which is topped with a ton of dried thyme, rosemary and salt. A bit excessive but good. The fries were slightly burnt and oily though, left a bitter aftertaste to the fries that no amount of sauce could cover up. Because it was a 'treat yoself' kind of day, we both got milkshakes as well, me the Soursop Hop Strawberry, my friend the Milky Way Malt. While his may have looked prettier, I liked the taste of mine more, though the soursop flavor was completely masked by the overpowering taste of strawberries. Very thick though, and very decadent. Overall, a great place to grab a quick bite of food. Wish the prices were a bit cheaper as the price to quality ratio isn't quite where I would like it to be, but you can't have it all as they say, :P.

My review is based on a very mediocre Caesar salad with chicken... I usually eat salads for my lunch but I wish I would have ordered a burger instead.... Anyways, I paid $15 for a salad and a drink... I don't mind paying this amount just as long as it's good but the salad was just ehhhh, it was tiny, and I think I got like 3oz of chicken...Needless to say, I was still hungry afterwards. If I ever come back, I'm definitely not ordering a salad.

I'm a fan of Good Stuff Eatery. Reasons why: -Friendly employees -Spacious seating -Neat and organized restaurant -Milkshakes are SO good. Ice cream used isn't overly sweet. It's smooth, creamy, and flavorful. -I love sauces! This place has a Dip Bar and Sriracha on each table. -The fries are perfectly crisp and flavorful. The Village Fries are packed with Rosemary and Thyme. Yum! -Burgers are tasty. The meat patty is juicy and seasoned well. Tasty burgers, fries, and shakes. Service with a smile. I'm a fan indeed.

I can do this entire review in one sentence. Ready. Here goes. "Good stuff eatery is just an overpriced five guys". Now for the more comprehensive version. Good Stuff Eatery has locations in Georgetown, Capitol Hill, Philadelphia, and of course here in Crystal City. The Crystal City location may be okay for you after they stop enforcing parking, but if you have to pay for parking it'll only make your experience worse. So I ordered the COLLETTI'S SMOKEHOUSE which is Applewood Bacon, Sharp Vermont Cheddar Fried Vidalia Onion Rings With Chipotle BBQ Sauce. $7. Also had Sunny's Handcut Fries 3.69. Also had a fountain soda at roughly $2.50. Add tax. $15 isn't exactly what I had in mind for not good at all fries, and a relatively small, decent tasting burger, and a soda. I'm almost positive I've had better elsewhere. The place was clean though, and the staff was friendly, and it did have a cool vibe, for whatever that is worth.

The burgers are delicious and tender/juicy. Very very very good! The fries are similar to Five Guys and have an option of having rosemary on them as well. The Dipping Station for the sauces is nice. Most of the sauces are a bit too creamy, but it is all preference. The hand spun milk shakes are good, but very filling and rich. Recommend getting a smaller size milk shake if you plan on getting burger and fries.

First, Ambiance-- The Crystal City Good Stuff Eatery just looks so cool when you walk in. I love the community table and the tvs. This location is way better than the Capitol Hill one. Second, Food-- The Prez Burger is better than meeting the Prez himself, at least I'm going to make that assumption because this burger is SO good! Really great tasting juicy beef patty, applewood bacon, onion marmalade, Roquefort, and horseradish mayo, what else do you need?!?! There's sweet, salty, a little pucker, and a lot of umami. Ugh, I really need to go back. Finally, the Drinks-- this was the one disappointment. I had the Milky Way Malt and the Root Beer float. The Milky Way Malt was better, but both of them were waaayyy too sweet. I finished my shake, but I only drank half of the float. Maybe the vanilla ice cream they use is a little too sweet and the addition of chocolate and caramel or root beer is just too much. However, my friend had the seasonal berry shake and he said it tasted like blueberry cheesecake so I'll definitely have to go back and try it.

Clean, comfortable fast food joint with a friendly staff. Burgers and buns were dripping in oil, pretty unpleasant. We didn't try the shakes.. eh at best

The burgers deserve 5 stars. Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. Why only 4 stars then? The fries. Nothing about them was good. They were undercooked and soaked with grease, which made them soggy. Get a burger and stop at McDonalds on the way home and get some fries.

Good food and milkshakes but too pricey- not good for families- it cost $70 for a family of 5...too much money for this type of food - Similarly priced burger joints bring your food and clean up after...here, you have to stand in line to order your food, get your food when your buzzer goes off and clean up after yourself.

  • Shelly S.

Burgers and fries are delicious.......messy, but delicious! Several dipping sauces for the fries - chipotle and sriracha are my faves. Back tonight for shakes and Spike's Village Fries (rosemary and thyme). Can't wait to enjoy the Milky Way Malt!

So, my boyfriend and I used to hate on Spike Mendelsohn all the time for his douchey and unimpressive appearances on Next Iron Chef (the running joke was "9 immensely talented chefs...and Spike"). But then I kept hearing about that damn toasted marshmallow milkshake, so I asked my boyfriend if he wanted to try it out. Each time, the answer was "Hell no! I'm not giving Spike any of my money!" He finally caved in when I pointed out that 1) we were at Costco and Good Stuff Eatery was barely a mile away, and 2) none of the Five Guys would probably do all that well on Top Chef, either, but they can make a hell of a burger. We came, we dined, and we ate crow -- Chef Spike actually has a good thing going here. I can't think of a better adjective than "good," or more accurately, "gooood" to describe everything. The food wasn't particularly pretty to look at, but it was gooood. Juicy, well-seasoned beef. The dip bar blew my mind -- all the delicious chipotle and sriracha dip I want? Badassness. And the toasted marshmallow milkshake is everything I could ever want in a milkshake. The only things keeping this from being a 5-star review were that the fries were all short and soggy (redeemed by the awesome dips though!), and the buns they use flatten and get soggy easily. Good Stuff Eatery has handily replaced Burger Tap and Shake as my new favorite burger joint in the DC area. Bravo.

love their salads, always very fresh. they do sometimes forget to give you the side of cornbread so if you want it you gotta go back to the counter and ask- not fun when they're slammed with customers. burgers and fries are usually pretty good but can be inconsistent on quality- I've had an order wrong, forgotten condiments, fries are soggy, etc . the caramel malt I ordered there once was quite yummy though. so I have to take one star off for some inconsistency but overall a great go to place for a quick easy meal in CC.

By reviewing this location, I will now have reviewed all three Good Stuff Eateries in the DC area. It's like the triple crown of burger eating. Out of all of their locations, this one might be the easiest to get parking at. Although parking is a non factor when it comes to getting a delicious burger, because you should be doing whatever it takes to get here. Their burgers in size are comparable to Shake Shack and slightly burger than a regular Five Guys Burger, but whatever points might be taken away by that are made up for by the flavor of the burger itself being much better. The patty is much more flavorful than either of those and definitely ranks as one of the better burgers in the DC area. Spike's Village fries are my go to, every.single.time. They're tasty but when you combine them with the dipping mayos which you can select Chipotle, Sriracha, Mango, or Old Bay. The people I'm with usually get them all so we can try each one over and over again. I've even gone as far as putting Old Bay mayo on one of my burgers and it was unbelievable delicious. My mouth is watering thinking about this meal at 9:25am. That can't be healthy, but I don't care. Do yourself a favor, go to Good Stuff.

Very good burger. The fries weren't quite what I expected but still good. Loved the mango dipping sauce and the chipotle one. Both went well with the fries. Would have loved to have tried a shake but decided against it. Not sure I would eat here again but would recommend it to someone who's never been.

Holy organic cheeseburger! I am so stoked to have found this awesomely (if albeit hipster-ish) organic burger place in my area. It was a beacon of light in a scarce Crystal City strip of nearly closed restaurants (it was almost 11pm) and boy was I glad to have found it. It was clean, sported 5 flat screen tvs and had a great selection of menu items. I especially loved that every burger can be interchanged to a grilled chicken sandwich and that the veggie burger looked pretty filling with muenster & cheddar stuffed portobello tops, flash fried w/ Panko crumbs, and veggies. At less than $7 for every made-to-order organic burgers are grilled to mouth watering perfection. Oh and don't skip the side of hand cut sea salt & rosemary french fries, it really completes the meal.

So the question is - Good Stuff, Five Guys, or Shake Shack? Although I'll always have a collegial-soft spot in my heart for Five Guys, Good Stuff unequivocally makes the best burger of the lot. I had the President Obama Burger (I'm in DC after all), which has as toppings Applewood Bacon, Onion Marmalade, Roquefort Cheese & Horseradish Mayo. The patty was actually a little smaller than I thought, but was filling with all of the toppings. The variety of toppings and wide selection of sauces - especially the mango and horseradish - has Good Stuff leaving their competitors in the dust when it comes to burgers. The fries are also a bit unique - they offer fries tossed with your usual seas salt, than other fries tossed with over herbs and spices. I personally didn't notice too much of a difference, but points for effort (Milk Shakes TBD at a later date). Burger, fries, and a drink will cost you a little over $10. If you need your burger fix in Crystal City, there is no better place to go than Good Stuff.

I love Good Stuff Eatery. Their french fries is amazing. The burgers are very tasty. A little too greasy but yummy. The Milkway milkshake is pure love. Service is overall good. It's pretty clean most of the time. The only bad thing is how loud the music gets but that is an fix.

The only thing worth is the shakes other then that it's grose. You pay way to much for what you get. My burger was smashed and had no flavor and there fries tasted as if I was eating a fries while drinking grease......grose

I'm a fry girl and theirs are great! Our milkshake was just as good. My date liked his burger. The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was comfy! I will definitely be returning to try the turkey burger and fries again!

After much contemplation, I decided to get some of the Good Stuff for lunch. I purposely parked on South 23rd Street versus Crystal Drive to burn a few calories before and after my dining experience. Being a huge fan of Michelle, I selected the "Michelle Melt", no fries required. If it's good enough for the FLOTUS, it's good enough for me right? My cashier told me that if I completed a short survey, I could get a FREE small milkshake. I finished my survey in a few seconds and my Toasted marshmallow shake was on the way. Easy Breezy!! I pulled out my Kindle while I waited but people-watching became more interesting. I saw people biting into the burgers and getting sauce all over their hands and faces. People smiling while sharing milkshakes while others were leaning back watching TV & discussing college football. I like the cleanliness, relaxed feel, and décor at this location. One of the employees delivered my order. Everything was fresh including the wheat bun! My free range turkey burger was juicy, slightly charred on both sides just like I like it and the Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, Ruby tomato, herb garden mayo, and lettuce enhanced the flavor. Even after I cut my sandwich in half, I had a hard time keeping my face & hands clean! I used about 25 napkins then resorted to a knife & fork. My hand spun shake was thick, rich, and creamy!

I first gave Good Stuff Eatery a 3 because after many years in DC and many, many, many visits to Good Stuff, I am a little over it. But even after dozens of visits, it still is a DC classic for a very good reason. It really is good stuff. I always get village fries and the President Obama burger and Cherry Coke. They have flavored mayo and the sirachi is amazing (as is the chipotle). I take tourists here and they always fall deeper into love with DC afterwards. If you have room for dessert, get the famous toasted marshmallow milkshake. I am not a fan of milkshakes, but even I think it's good!

OMG this place is exceptional !!! Just try it, you will see... I would have never considered it except some people at the conference I was attending nearby recommended it. The burger are the best, the hand cut fries are greasy but wonderful and the handmade milk shakes are creamy & delish. But wait, there's more... There is something for all diets here, plus they are sustainable and Eco-conscious. Kinda the Chipolte of Burgers!

Good stuff isn't actually all that good. The food items are creative for a burger place, but the burger and fries I ordered felt more like fast food. Just didn't taste fresh......too salty and too greasy. The fires were a disappoint; just cramped into the bag and most were so small I felt like we got whatever was left over. Staff is friendly, but the place feels like it needed to be cleaned a little better. I just expected better.

My favorite burger here is the Steakhouse burger. The tangy mayo, crispy onion strings, cremini mushrooms and cheese make a great combination. The burgers are salty and amazing. They are just the right size, not enormous and greasy like Five Guys. Well, maybe a little greasy. The fries are OK, a little limp. I've tried the village fries, but prefer the regular ones. Try the horseradish sauce! It's heaven on the fries. The Greek Wedge salad is AWESOME! I know it's weird to get excited about a salad, but this one is worth getting. And it helps you feel a little less guilty after scarfing down a burger. the little cornbread muffin that comes with it is another added treat. The place is casual, and you get your food pretty quickly. I've also tried the Good Stuff Melt and Prez Obama burger, which are good, but my fave is still the Steakhouse.

Way to drive a Spike in the sizzling burger industry! (There's some meat between those puns (It just doesn't stop!)) Of all the cheflebrities whose stylez and profilez have caught my culinary eye, Mendelsohn wasn't one of them. Not sure why, exactly; he carries the right amount of swagger, a ton of talent and some visually stunning grub. So, on discovery of Good Stuff, the sudden and overpowering urge to get a Spike-sanctioned burger overcame. We ventured forth. Institutional, stark whites with splashes of bold contrast, the interior transports to a high art exhibit in the 80s. Take it as you will. Went with the Free Range Turkey Burger - bird patty topped with avocado, Muenster, L & T on a whole wheat bun. Unlike critics of the beef burgs, I was completely satisfied with the portion, and found the protein to be extremely well-seasoned. Foresake the cow, critics - the bird is the word. The rest of the meal idled in mediocre: Spike's Village Fries just swam in rosemary, rendering the medium (whether it be hand-cut spuds or water-soaked toothpicks) inconsequential. To the fry daddy: hold back on the herbs. On the opposite end of flavor overload, the Milky Way Malt is thick and sweet, but lacking any real flavor. The ice cream spackled the tongue with fat, so much so that the subtle malt, cocoa and even caramel couldn't shine through. Note: the caramel was a substitution for the standard butterscotch. No strike to the wizards behind the shake's composition, but to call something a Milky Way fill-in-the-blank and not include caramel is sweet sacrilege. Price, while higher than your Five Guys, is right set, based on meat & produce sourcing. A thousand flavored aiolis, from Sriracha to Old Bay, are there to zest up your pleasure, and self-serve soda fountains mean unlimited refills. Worth a stop.

I love the Georgetown location and as I am in the area for business I decided to give this location a try. I ordered the farmhouse burger, village fries and a giant chocolate cookie (don't judge me). And while the burger was just as delicious, moist and yummy as I've had previously at their other location the fries were a HUGE disappointment. Greasy, and undercooked. A pile of oily soft potatoes - yuck! My waist and hips thank you for not indulging....

I greatly enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee shake. I also appreciated the well-maintained outdoor seating options.

I'm giving "Good Stuff Eatery" one star simply because the strawberry milkshake was awesome; HOWEVER, I'd honestly give the place negative five stars if I could because the $16 double burger and "hand cut" fries were BY FAR the absolute WORST fast food I've ever tasted. I mean literally, I've never had a worse tasting burger in my entire life. From the stale sesame seed bun, to a burger that tasted like it had been reheated on the grill 27 times, to the soggy undercooked fries, it's been a long time since I've wished that I could take back having taken a single bite of a meal. If you spend 3X the price to eat here on more than one occasion as opposed to a Wendy's, you must be delusional!!! I would've killed for an ounce of the grease in my burger that some other reviewers speak of...this burger literally tasted like a leftover McDonald's burger that was thrown in a dumpster after sitting under a heat lamp for two days, microwaved for ten minutes, then doused with salt. Words can't express how bad I wish I never ate this food never mind blow $20 on a "burger," fries, and milkshake.

I can't say enough about this place. Their double cheese burger is amazing. The biggest, juiciest, cheesiest, and tasty burger around. The shakes are creamy and delicious. The onion pedals, are amazing as well. The big thing I liked, were all the different kind of mayo they had. Crazy flavors, and friendly staff. The only bad part, is how guilty you feel after eating a billion calories in good stuff food.

I've walked by this restaurant plenty of times and never walked in. A few weeks ago, I decided to finally take the chance, and I'm so glad I did! The burgers here are made to order. I ordered the cheeseburger and it was completely worth it. The meat was juicy and the bun was soft. The Red Velvet milk shake I order was creamy, rich, and smooth. I felt like I was enjoying melted ice cream! The service is great as well- the staff are efficient and personable. I recommend going during off peak hours (lunch/dinner) since the line does tend to back up. A great choice regardless of when you go.

I'm writing this review in a vain attempt to catch the attention of Good Stuff Eatery's management. I first fell in love with this small chain after visiting the Georgetown location. Seriously - the burgers, the shakes, the service.... ALL phenomenal over there. Then I made the mistake of bringing my boyfriend to the Crystal City location (after raving about how great everything would be). I don't know what is up with this branch, but what a dismal letdown... For starters, the staff was rude.... As in, unnecesarily rude. They didn't respond when I said hello and asked how they were doing. They just sort of glared at me with disdain; it was a couple hours from closing, too. Then, there was the food. Boyfriend's burger was awful - cold patty, wilted lettuce and light-pink tomato.... My salad, too, had seen better days; the cold, fried onion petals on top were dripping with cooking oil. For such a great restaurant, this location was such a letdown. I'll revisit the Georgetown joint, but this one needs an intervention.

This place is AMAZING!!! I don't like burgers but I love salads and so when me and my family went their I tried the Cesar salad. It was sooo good the lettuce was crunchy and the dressing was light.then there was Apple wood smoked bacon in their it was really good probably my new favorite salad. My whole family got burgers and they all said that they were really good. All the food is fresh and you can see them cooking as your ordering. The place is clean. They also have good milkshakes and a good sauce bar. I recommend the mango sauce Update: I recommend the milkshakes but you are at your own risk with the toasted marshmallow. I have had it two times the first time is was amazing and brought back so many memories but the second time the toasted part was more burnt. It's was gross. So take your chances

Good Stuff Eatery is my favorite fast food burger place in the MD, DC, and VA. Not only do they serve burgers, fries, and shakes, but they also serve pizzas and salads. I love their dip bar that has a variety of sauces (e.g., ketchup, old bay, mango, chipotle, sriracha, horseradish, mustard) for fries and burgers. At every table, they also have malted vinegar, sriracha chili oil, and salt. They have two clean, spacious, unisex family bathrooms. For drinks, we shared a shake. We decided to get the August Shake of the Month which was Raspberry Truffle. It was smooth, rich, creamy, raspberry, and chocolatey. It would satisfy your sweet tooth. My other favorites include Toasted Marshmallow and Cookies and Cream. For burgers, I'd recommend Good Stuff Melt, which consists of a beef patty, topped with good stuff sauce, caramelized onions, mushrooms, and melted cheddar and muenster. It has everything I've ever wanted on a burger. What's a burger without the fries. For fries, I'd recommend Spike's Village Fries, fries topped with fresh herbs (thyme and rosemary) and sea salt. It comes in two sizes - snack or regular size. The fries were freshly made per order - crispy and hot.

It has been 24 hours since my meal at Good Stuff Eatery, and I'm still in a food coma. In Atlanta, we may have Flip and Richard Blais, but I would trade that in heartbeat for Good Stuff Eatery and Spike. First, loved that they offered snack and mini size fries and milkshakes. Both of these smaller options were still generous portions, but provided a much more reasonable caloric intake, if you can even talk about such a thing while inhaling an inch thick cheeseburger cooked to a lovely medium (farmhouse bacon cheese burger), fabulously greasy European style fries dipped in mango mayo and chipotle mayo (hand cut fries), and an impossibly thick milkshake made with creamy vanilla ice cream topped with a generous portion of fudge sauce (black and white). All of it was fantastic, but the milkshake was truly unbelievable. It was more like a giant cup of the most decadent and creamy vanilla ice cream just slightly softened, and the cup was painted with a thick chocolate fudge sauce before being filled. Though the mini size was still probably a good three to four scoops of ice cream, after it was finished, I seriously debated going back to try another flavor, because it was just that good. For just over $14 for this feast, this cheap dinner was the best meal I ate on my most recent visit to DC. Seriously, I've sampled the burger trend in a variety of cities and settings, and Good Stuff Eatery takes the cake...er, milkshake.

One of the best burger meals I have had. Worth going out of your way for. Definitely get fries and a shake.

I had a classic salad with shrooms. I did not realize that shroom meant a deep fried mushroom stuffed with cheese. The shroom was delicious. The salad was very average. I also didn't understand the wait. There were more employees than customers, yet my very basic salad took almost 15 minutes to come out. I may return and give Good Stuff another chance.

Spike, I expected more from you and your many hats. I tried your Sunnyside burger with the ooey-gooey egg, but the patty was overcooked. Can a girl please get a properly cooked burger?! Fries were also soggy, however I did appreciate the variety of mayonnaise for dipping -- can't go wrong with sriracha mayo on anything.

The fries are my favorite and the burger sometimes is a hit and a miss when it comes to the patty. However, you are immediately taken in by the atmosphere and how they prepare the food. I have tried the cookies and cream shake and it is really different from any other shake you have ever tried. It is smooth and thick like custard. The whip cream is made in house and it is my favorite part of it. I would never probably get another shake, but if I took a visitor there from out of town, I would suggest them to try it for a good stuff experience. Visually everything is appealing. I think their fries are a notch above Five Guys. You won't be upset at spending your money here.

Having just moved to the Crystal City area from another part of VA, and being a fan of the original Good Stuff, I was extremely excited to try it out. In the course of a week I went there twice: once alone for pickup, and once with visiting family for a sit-down dinner. The first experience was 4 star; the second, more like 2, so my rating reflects the average. This place is probably displaying inconsistencies because of their recent opening, but I really hope they can clean up their act, because when they want to, they make a really phenomenal burger. I grabbed take-out burgers from Good Stuff one of my first nights in Crystal City. The place wasn't too busy and the order took a little longer than I expected, but not too long to wait for a quality, freshly cooked burger. I took my Sunnyside burger and fries on the short walk back to my apartment, and the burger was delicious. The fries were cold and soggy, which I a) didn't mind that much and b) attributed somewhat to the time between receiving the food and eating it. My second visit was during peak dinner hours on a Friday evening. I was hosting family from out of town and I was excited to share this DC staple with them. We ordered 3 burgers and 1 order of fries; after a 15-20 minute wait (acceptable given how slammed they were at this time), the fries came out cold and soggy and my burger cold and dry. The other burgers seemed to be freshly prepared. Obviously the only explanation is that my burger and the fries were sitting for some time before they were served, so I have to wonder why this was the case at a time when the food should be turning over quickly. Overall I'm disappointed with the inconsistencies and I hope that in the coming months they get their act together and live up to their reputation.

My husband and I both tried the turkey burgers = very good! (Especially the one with avocado.) Seasoned fries are tasty but tell them to shake the seasoning over the fries. We sampled onion petals - way too much breading. We have gone back for the turkey burgers and chipotle aioli! Wait time varies so be prepared but call ahead is very efficient.

Good quality stuff and much easier to get to from the Rosslyn side of town than to the Capitol site. The food is fresh and made of quality stuff and you can tell. I try a different shake every time I can when I go there. The hamburgers are juicy and taste better than some of the other burgers I've had and aren't so much that you can't finish. Casual atmosphere, a little on the pricier side, but plenty of variety, which separates it from a Five Guys or In and Out Burger.

This is the best. Burgers are top notch. Shakes are delicious. Fries are yummy. Only thing I wish is that the buns weren't as greasy or wet and more dry. But nonetheless the meat quality makes up for it.

I walked in after work after hemming and hawwing about what I felt like having for a drink and dinner. I just happened by on my way to the rest of the crystal city shops. I had never heard of the place before and decided to check it out since it looked like a more trendy five guys. I ended up getting the good stuff melt and an order or the village fries. The burger tasted pretty good! Slathered in sauce and cheese and mushrooms, I could almost forgive that the delicious juicy burger turned the bun into a doughy mush on top of it. Maybe if they hadn't assumed I wanted it to go and left it unwrapped it would have stayed nice and neat, but to go orderers, beware of your burger turning into a delicious meaty doughball. The village fries are for people that like soft fries with a little bit of crispies. The extra seasoning was good, but otherwise it was similar to five guys. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but for 17$ (12$ food + 5$ draft beer) I won't be splurging here too often.

Having watched Spike Mendelsohn compete on Top Chef, I felt like Good Stuff Eatery was a great reflection of his personality. I can see him making this type of food on the show. I ordered the Spike's Sunnyside paired with Spike's Village Fries. The integrated flavor of the burger was pretty good, but I was pretty distraught by how oily it was. Plus, I ordered it mainly because of the egg, and it was so smushed into the burger, that I wasn't even able to discern that it was there. Big problem. The fries and the accompanying sauces totally saved the day! I loved having the option to dispense the sauces myself-- favorites were chipotle, old bay, and sriracha. My friend likes the mango, but I thought that was a little too sweet. Ultimately, it's a tasty place I would wholeheartedly go to again, but I did not think it was Top Chef material.

Price: A little on the expensive side for the average-sized regular cheeseburger ($7.50). Salads: Nothing exciting - four standard salads including Caesar and Greek. Decent size for the price ($7-8). Burgers: Very tasty. Served on what looked like a store-bought potato bun. Fresh ingredients. You can ask for a burger wrapped in lettuce if you want to skip the bun. I was not full after eating this burger. Sauces: I could barely taste the 'Good Stuff' sauce on my burger. The Old Bay sauce was a little strange and tangy. The chipotle sauce was delicious and not at all spicy. Atmosphere: Plenty of seating, very clean and new-looking. Service: Efficient and friendly cashier. Pretty fast. I probably waited five minutes for my burger, ten max.

Good Stuff Eatery is not very good. It seems as if they are alittle late to the burger party (Hell Burger,BGR,Big Buns, Bobby Flays, etc). First off The set up of this location is weird. When you first walk in, the shake station and burger pick up area is BEFORE the place that you order. So after an intense 30 second stare down. we made our way to the order place. We ordered 2 burgers one sunnyside and one plain burger. Got a buzzer and sat down. I noticed a "envirocharge" item on the check for 22 cents. Didn't know if it was a Crystal City thing or charged by the restaurant. No big deal I guess, but any information as to what it was or where the money was going would be good to know. So the food comes in a bag a la 5 guys. But the catch is that you get a plastic tray lined with paper underneath it, which I guess you are to eat off of. But if you are so concerned with the environment why bother? Did I mention that the bag was stapled? and did I mention that we ordered it to dine in? So once we opened the bag. the steam from the heat makes for some very soggy fries. the burgers seems to be wrapped pretty tight compressing the burger into a small ball like burger. On the table sits Malt Vinegar (i get it), sea salt (I sort of get it but the fries are COVERED already) but the sriracha ( I don't get it). I have to walk across the the restaurant to get ketchup and mustard? then they have a "sauce bar" with other types of ketchup and mayonnaise (old bay etc) As for the burger, it was really not very memorable the sunny side with a fried egg and I added mushrooms was so mashed together you couldn't taste anything other than bread and meat. The plain burger was OK but if you mess that up, you should close you doors anyway. I would suggest that if you are in that area, just go to Chick-fil-a and save some money for a better burger later on somewhere else.

This has become quite the neighborhood hot spot. It's always full of customers. The burgers are quite tasty, but I can't rave about them quite to the level that some people hold them. They're too greasy for my preference, so I tend to come here more at the behest of others for a full meal. However, if I'm walking by, I'm easily tempted to pick up a milkshake, no matter what the weather. Those are worth every penny! I like the outside seating, and they have the outdoor torch heaters available for when the weather is just a little too cool to normally eat outside. Review input from my dog: The French fries are so good that it is worth sniffing the ground under the outside tables to find crumbs, no matter how small!

I was a fan of the Capitol Hill location so when I stumbled across the Crystal City location right in my own neighborhood, I nearly had an accident trying to pull over immediately and check them out. Good Stuff Eatery did not disappoint. My friend and I happened to come in around closing time and got to meet the owner David, who was especially kind and friendly! It was very clean, the food we had was great, the service was great, and we can't wait to visit again. P.S. The black and white shake, the Strawberry shake, and the Coco Sala chocolate..... breathtaking.

Name is not enough, you have to deliver. $4 fries - at a serve yourself drinks/condiments place - why? Burgers are small-ish for $7.70, meat is good/roll is fresh. I was hoping from my drink our fries (split) and burger (decent) I'd be full (for well over $10) ; I wasn't. Went back for the mushroom veggie burger. Let's just call it a mushroom burger, as nothing else is in it. I think veggies know mushrooms are vegetarian. . Uninteresting flavor from slices of I'd guess of one portobello mushroom. If I gave a crap I could make one about 10x better. (when I'm cooking for myself I usually do; you'd think cooking for many others, one would care even more) Perhaps add green/red pepper or other vegetables with more than just umami flavor. Maybe season the burger a bit with herbs.. but they add to cost. Bottom 3 veggie burger's ive eaten. Spike- eat this yourself again and tell me you can't do better. Yes people come because they've seen you on Top Chef. Yes people will still come despite your too-high for what it is prices (see 5 Guys - better and cheaper but with not as nice decor). Also your relentless branding and picture all over the place is a bit much. Loose the branded bag that's called necessary to take a burger from checkout to seat - Arlington wasn't so busy that you can actually ask 'to go' or 'for here' and get what you ask for (Curious about why such waste, I asked a manager and I understand the reason you put in the bag was that initially in DC it was so busy that many 'for here's' were forced to be to-go's due to popularity..) No worries about that in arlington, so lose the waste.

Argh... my quest for the best burger in DC was not solved at Good Stuff in Arlington. I do have to rank it much better than Bobby's Burger Palace and BTS, but lower than Hell Burger. Here are a few issues I had: 1) the burger was too greasy 2) when I was in line, someone with a Good stuff hat (I'm assuming they worked there) cut me in line and placed a full order for food. I thought it was a joke, but it was real. (I had already waited 10 minutes just to place the order, and it was an off peak time) 3) Fry ratio. What is up with these place giving everyone crazy amounts of fries in a small or regular order. Can Bloomberg do something about this? Wait... wrong city. Good things: 1) Burger variety. Love the concepts. Good execution. Try have them not as greasy next time. 2) Shakes. Best shake at a burger place that I've had so far. But it comes at a high cost - over $5. So I'm paying good money to get fatter... mmm. I'm joking. Sort of. Parking is horrendous before 4 pm. After 4 pm it's free in arlington garages in the area. Close to Crystal City metro. Good seating and has plenty of TVs. I'll definitely try it again, but I need to save up before I have another $20 burger meal.

Meh. Quite disappointing. Good, but not up to my expectations. After such great reviews and personal recommendations, this was a bit of a let down. The much talked about fires with Rosemary and Thyme just didn't work for me. The fries would have been much better without them and just seasoned with Sea Salt. I tried the basic bacon cheeseburger with all the fixin's. The sauce they put on it was more appropriate for a Greek Gyro and not a burger. I also had the Pumpkin Spice milkshake. This too was meh. It tasted quite bland, and I didn't even finish it (that says a lot). I will give it another chance and try one of their specialty burgers with the regular fires.

This is the second time I've been to GSE (first one being in DC). The service is much better than the one I went to in DC. For this one, we were greeted by the cashier before we even got to the counter. We were debating on what to get, but it ended up being a conversation between myself, my girlfriend, and the cashier. I liked that. My burger (a veggie shroom burger, though listed on the menu with a much longer name) was tasty, nothing was overdone. A bit pricey but worth it. Also, don't ever pass up on the shakes. If anything, come here for the shakes. 4 stars only because the nutritional information (such as calories) are nowhere to be found. We even asked the employees. Also, the dining area was a little messy. Perhaps we came in at a bad time. One of the tables was unstable, though luckily we came in when it wasn't crowded at all.

The highlight of good stuff for me is the toasted marshmallow milkshake. I honestly just order the burger to accompany the shake. I usually order the free range turkey burger or the Michelle Melt also a turkey burger. Both are good and I prefer them to the beef burgers. I substituted the burger for the grilled chicken once and that tasted fine. The fries are also excellent here. The village fries have thyme and rosemary and taste great with the chipotle mayo. I appreciate the variety of mayo available and that they are free. In the summer I am here at least once a month/week for the shake.

This place is not your best bet for the money. Personally, I disagree with other customers who say this place is on par with Five Guys. I think Five Guys is on a higher level of taste. It's not that Good Stuff Eattery is bad, I just think they are more along the lines of Wendy's but at a large price premium (full disclosure: I love Wendys). Regardless, I do find myself coming to this place maybe once a month when I'm in the mood for a burger or a shake. They do have decent shakes and their fries are good as well, but overall I feel like you pay way too much for what is essentially a fast food experience.

Interesting concept and know there is another in DC (that has a lot of reviews on there vs. this one in Crystal City). Either case a good place to eat burgers and fries. I like that they have a pager system so you mark a place to sit down while you wait. The fries (regular and with rosemary were good - they give you a lot). The onion pedals...ok...too much batter and I was thinking more like blooming onion style from Outback but these were big. All the different mixed mayo sauces for dipping is a great idea (with the favorite being the one with sriracha hot sauce in it). The burgers...pretty damn good. Steakhouse burger was good for me. Milkshakes were good as well. I would definitely come out here again.

Great Food, only reason they didn't get 5 stars was they are a little pricey for the quantity of food. Small Burgers but absolutely delicious right on par with Five Guys and In and Out. They are not as greasy as five guys but more unique than In and Out. The variety of sauces for the fries is amazing and the Veggie Options were delicous. Overall, I highly recommend Good Stuff Eatery.

  • Ashley M.

Super meh... I have been twice and won't be returning. I chalked up the first-time visit to the fact that the place was overcrowded and only recently opened. But the second time was busy but not crowded, several weeks later, and I still left disgusted. (How hard is it to make bad burgers & fries?) Shakes: The only redeeming menu option. They are delicious but incredibly rich. Split a kids' size with a friend/date and you'll have plenty. Fries: Terrible! They were so soggy and flavorless. It was busy both times I went -- no excuse to have half-dead piles of mush laying around when there's so many people coming through. You'd think you would be getting nice freshly-made ones. But no, these fries might as well be steamed then covered in oil. They are super greasy. Dip bar: To cover up the taste of the fries, I assume? Sorry, you can't mask flaccid fries and blase burgers with flavored mayo. Portabella Burger: Ugh. Don't bother. It is "vegetarian" but stuffed with cheese, breaded, and deep fried. And then coated with a heavy tablespoon of coarse salt... on each side. Even after scraping it off I still felt like I was biting into a cheese-stuffed salt lick. To me the kicker is the 1% "environment" fee. On their website they say "1% of your total bill is donated to plant a tree a day and sustain various environmental efforts." They conveniently neglect to mention that they CHARGE you an EXTRA 1% on your total bill for their BS "tree program" while blatantly overpackaging EVERYTHING. You get the lettuce burger in a plastic clamshell, all the shakes are in your standard plastic to-go cups (no reusable cups), with plastic lids, more one-use plastic cups on the dip bar, and even sit-down orders are thrown into paper bags, and placed on (finally! reusable!) trays that are covered in more paper (doh). So in short, good shakes, bad food, and they're greenwashers, so take your business elsewhere.

Every 3 weeks I walk through the Crystal City Underground on the way to my chiropractor and think "one of these days, I'm going to try out Good Stuff." Yesterday I finally did. I actually had no idea what kind of place it was, and I really just wanted a snack. Turns out its burgers, fries, and shakes, so I decided a shake. I asked the girl at the register what she recommended, and she said Milky Way Malt. The other girl tried to sell me on Toasted Marshmallow, but once I heard what this Milky Way Malt was all about, I was sold. I got a small one, which turned out to be a fantastic decision, because it was amazing and I probably would have finished a large and been very upset with myself afterwards. This shake is no joke. Fudge and caramel at the bottom of the cup, a light chocolate flavor (as in not super chocolatey, just right), and topped with crushed malt balls. After a couple of minutes I realized a straw was useless and switched to spoon, which is absolutely the way to do it. Service is not table service - you order at the register, they giveyou a little buzzer, and you pick your stuff up when its ready, like Panera. Which is fine by me, because they're making it all fresh, and you can watch them do it. It was 430 in the afternoon, so before the dinner rush and not crowded, but the place was spotless. And it smelled awesome. I kinda wish I'd gotten a burger and fries. Next time...

Oh I dunno. This was a rather disappointing first visit, and I wanted to believe the hype, really. Someone had brought their fries to a potluck once and I thought they were good. But in person? Not so great. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, in a lettuce wrap. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not into the weird carb-less diet fad. It's just that In-n-Out has their burgers available Protein Style (wrapped with lettuce), which is delicious and refreshing especially on a hot summer day. This was far from it. Not even wrapped in paper, just a patty thrown together between two large awkward pieces of lettuce in a plastic container. I couldn't even pick it up without it slipping out of the lettuce! My friend laughed at me and I resorted to knife and fork. The patty was over-cooked (dry) and bland. The fries were on the soggy side (which I like) but tasted strangely like sweet potato fries, in a very unsatisfying way. The various mayos looked and tasted funky, like there was something artificial about them. I didn't get to try their shakes, which I should one day... after I finish the other places on my DC bucket list first. Tip: The stack of clean-looking red trays by the soda fountain are actually used (I thought they were being nice and providing trays for the dipping sauces). Oops.

I am the duke. Heed me! Less character than the original Capitol Hill location, but the trade off is substantially more seating space inside. It is large and clean, with a pretty attentive staff, now that they are trained. I'll never claim Good Stuff is a solid value. It's easy to drop $16 there. But the food itself is pretty good, even if one has to pay for the privilege of being one of Spike's pretentious minions. Either way, I worship the marshmallow and salted caramel shakes.

    (4)
  • Lia M.

Not a fan. Fries were soggy and oversalted, chicken sandwich was ridiculously small, bun was soggy, even though there was no sauce and it had been toasted. The only good part was the salted caramel shake, which was delicious. But for $17 for a small shake, fries, and a tiny chicken sandwich isn't worth it.

I came here not knowing what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised! I'm always ready to compare burger places to my beloved (and very affordable) Ray's Hell Burger, and this came in pretty darn close. First of all...the three of us had GREAT service. The cashier was super friendly, as was the guy who came by to pick up our trash. The fries were strangely dark and short, but they actually weren't too bad if one added yummy dipping sauce (the Sriracha mayo was my fave). They weren't super crispy, but honestly it didn't bother me. I ordered the Good Stuff Melt Medium well (they normally come Medium rare) and it was good! Drippy and messy (NOT greasy as most reviewers state), but that's what happens with sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions, cheese, and sauce. also I ordered a "snack size" Toasted Marshmallow milkshake and fries, because come on. This is America. To put it mildly, this milkshake was Amaze-balls. It tasted just like I was standing over a campfire eating freshly toasted marshmallows, except with ice cream! Get this. You're welcome.

Ooooo, imagine my surprise when I came across this place in Crystal City! My friends and I enter to order our food. However, we were immediately interrupted by a man that we assumed was the manager of this place with a kid sitting on his hip. He rambled off how awesome this place was and recited the menu even though he handed us the menus. Uh...*fake smile, nod head* I'm hungry, dammit! I had the chicken burger with applewood bacon and cheese. Mmmm, delicious! The "Boardwalk-style" fries with sea salt...yummy! My friend had the toasted marshmallow milkshake. I see it's all the rage! For me, toasted marshmallow in a milkshake?!?!? Dude, I just ate! Don't make me barf! Well, each to his own, eh? I'll definitely return!

Very solid burgers, sometimes better than other times, but very good overall. Fries are consistently a disappointment. Just get a double burger and skip the fries. Shakes seem nice, but we think the marshmallow one is way sweet - it's not for everyone. The GSE on Capitol Hill is charming, but GSE Crystal City is easier to get around, cleaner and a little more space.

By the numbers: people in line ahead of me: 1 People working behind registers and in prep line: 15 Minutes it took to get my burger: 17 Price of a burger and fries (no drink): 12 grease/salt/potato ratio in fries: 50/75/1 Chance of returning 1:3 At the end of the day, this is very close to a 5 Guys with slightly more esoteric toppings, greasier and saltier fries and a higher price point. I had the smokehouse burger, and it was very good. Smooshed into a wrapper ala 5 guys, but still very good. And it was about the same price is 5 guys. The fries were, at $3.69, shockingly expensive and simply not very good. Too greasy, too salty and none longer than .5" I ate maybe 20% of the bag. The atmosphere was fine, the layout stinks (how about putting up a sign telling you were to start the queue) and the people behind the counter were just slightly better than rude, but not by much. And call me crazy, but a 17 minute wait for a burger and fries served in a bag just seems excessive, especially when there was no line. And at the end of the day, I frankly didn't think the meal was worth $12. Will I go back? Probably, just because I work across the street and it's a new offering on Crystal Drive. But if there's any line at all, I'm running to Ted's where the burgers are as good or better, the atmosphere is far more pleasant, the wait staff is welcoming and friendly and the fries are edible. Now, all that being said, some signage, some remedial customer service training, some expediting on the line and a revamp of the fries would make this a much more pleasant experience. Remember, there's a reason 5 Guys is franchised, it's not a hard code to crack.

The food is good, they have a lot of different burger choices. They have the line down to a science so they get you through the line pretty quickly, even when it's crowded. There are several sauce selections to choose from, but oddly you have to special request BBQ sauce it's not out there with the rest of them. For portions that size, it's expensive, but really good. You should try milkshakes at least once.

New restaurants in Crystal/Pentagon City tend to crop up like weeds, and later... summarily get nuked like the weeds they are. That's not always a bad thing, as it keeps fresh ideas and establishments in the area. Chef Spike, former contestant on Season 4 of Top Chef, and a Washington D.C. native is responsible for bringing this tasty bid'ness into our lives. I Understand, it's really hard to stand out in the sea of beef on bread with fried potatoes business models these days. There's just too many places one can get a delicious burger. But honestly, spicy mayo and crowds may be the the only gimmicks here. Make no mistake, it's busy here; partly because it's new in CC, and partly because it's a trendy destination. The lines here are packed; just plain long. The soda machines are always a disaster, there's ice everywhere and no one has any idea how to get in and out of the restaurant with any speed at all. The Food you ask? -- The buns here are small, like McDonald's cheeseburger small. The meat is thick, which is good, it's not the bomb-diggity, but good 'nuff. I had the President Obama Burger - even though I'm not a huge fan of caramelized onions. The horseradish sauce set it off! Like I said, it was good. I loved the fries. Soggy, salted, covered in thyme. My compliant - Two small Burgers, two small fries, two medium drinks, 27 Dollars. Topped off with slow/lackluster customer service and a crowded, nightclub loud restaurant. I'd of loved to had a few beers and/or a shake with friends, but honestly, I would be afraid of running up a 70 dollar tab and not being able to find a place to enjoy it! The burger was good. The fries were excellent. The rest of the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure that's not what Spike intended.

I write this review sweating and writhing in pain. Why would I write something clearly in the throws of food poisoning? Because I. must. not. forget. Sure, a week from now a slight craving for a sip of that delicious milky way milk shake may come back to haunt me. Or one late evening, when I have again neglected to cook a fresh, healthy dinner the later-than-typical-crystal city hours will tempt me. NO I will look back on this review and remember my first taste of the good stuff, and the hours of bad stuff that followed. My dog passes by me every few minutes. Glancing. Looking concerned. I'm not sure if he knows I'm ill or pissed that I didn't let him have some of that underseasoned turkey carcass. I imagine it's a bit of both. I woefully entered the calorie counts for my share of the fries into my food log, lamenting the breach in my diet. The damage is minimal. Soggy, burnt zombie five-guys fries do not a pig-out session make. My hunger cannot be quenched by mutilated stubs of deadly nightshade plants. The Michelle Obama burger, which required two napkins to sop up the excess "Barack Juice" they ejaculated between my buns lacked flavor. The bun to patty ratio was displeasing - just off. Clearly, the highlight was the stolen sips of my husband's shake. Also my diet coke. Yes, a take away fountain beverage was the bright spot in the meal I personally ordered.

One of the better fast burger joints I've been to in awhile. I had the Obama burger and fries and both were delicious; truly a cut above. I also liked the free sauces (mango, Old Bay, chipotle) on the side. The Crystal City location can be mobbed and finding a seat can be tough, but overall this place is very impressive. If I lived in the area, I'd probably eat here more than I should.

I ate here for the first time yesterday despite living only 10 minutes away. When places like this open, I generally prefer to wait a few weeks or even months to allow the kinks to get worked out. At 5:30 there was no wait, and only a few people sitting down inside. After much indecision, I went with the Prez Obama burger because I love Roquefort cheese. The guy told me that all burgers are cooked medium-rare, which was fine by me since I like 'em juicy. He did ask if I preferred well done, which was nice of him. My friends and I staked out a spot and waited about 10 minutes for our buzzers to go off. I was initially surprised at the small-ish size of the burger given the $7 price tag, but it's what's on the inside that matters. Not too greasy, crispy bacon, tangy Roquefort...it was a serious mouthgasm. The burger itself was well done instead of the requested medium rare, but still seriously tasty. I decided against the fries after reading so many reviews about their measly size and limp texture, but it would have been nice to have something other than my finger to dip into the AMAZING sriracha mayo. I ended up slathering it on my burger. The toasted marshmallow shake is next on my hit list...would've gotten it with the burger but I can only withstand so much gluttony in one sitting.

Can't wait to come back to Good Stuff Eatery!! We tried this for lunch on a weekend so it wasn't too crowded, luckily. We had a variety of burgers and tried most of their dipping options. The dipping options are almost all mayo-based so if you're not into mayo don't get too exciting about dipping. They had a wide variety of shake flavors and even had floats! The root beer float was excellent - yum! The burgers were good, the fries were good (and there were a lot of them!) and the shakes (toasted marshmellow) were really good - overall: Great lunch spot with great burgers!

was told by a co-worker that this was better than Shake Shack. I don't know where he got that idea. I bought the first burger on their menu and it comes with egg and their special sauce. Nothing special about it. The sandwich was on the sloppy side. That wouldn't bother me if it actually tasted awesome. It's just a little better than burgers you get at any bar at happy hour. As for the shakes, if you like extra thick, this is your spot. I prefer somewhere in between. Their shakes are so thick, you can't suck it through the straw unless your mouth has a built in motor. I ate it like ice cream with a spoon. It's definitely not terrible but you're not missing anything.

With all the hype and the line out the door for days, I was expecting to see this place rated 4-5 stars on Yelp. Thank you, Yelpers, for your accuracy. Good Stuff Eatery is disappointingly "alright." The fries are disgusting and I have no clue why they'd serve them. The burger had all the ingredients to be mind blowing, but it was whatever. The salted caramel shake was amazing, but the melted marshmallow tastes like vanilla++. I work nearby but will sooner hit up Chipotle before eating at Good Stuff Eatery.

i was excited to go to the Good Stuff Eatery in Crystal City as it is way more convenient for me. After having a Colletti's Smokehouse burger, fries, and an oreo shake, i was left wondering where that $18 from my wallet went. I liked the Colletti's smokehouse burger, it was unfortunately not cooked medium as ordered (maybe they can't do that here?), it was as done as done can be. my problem was that it was not anything special. it would be less greasy than its ruby tuesday counterpart - but at RT you'd get fries, too. the burger is about the size of a Five Guys' single patty burger, which is alright, but you kind of want a wee bit more. As far as burger taste, i think i prefer the five guys' burgers to GSE, maybe its the seasoning (or my affinity to greasy foods?), but when i ate just the meat, i thought GSE tasted how a burger should, but was a bit plain. the fries are the floppy kind, not the crispy kind, so be forewarned fry-lovers. the best part was the shake, i like how they have several flavors to choose from, but if you wanted a regular flavored shake, you might as well go to chik-fila next door instead of paying upwards of $5 for one. the shake was good and creamy and had those little ice cream bits i like, but again, this should have been in the $3.50-4.50 range, not $5+. the bottom line is that it's a trendy, nice place with solid food and shakes, but be prepared to pay the premium. i guess in crystal city there aren't too many options for healthy, well-made food, so you may have to live with GSE for now.

Been here a couple of times and the food is pretty good, burgers are decent size and the fries are good but need to be served HOT, we all know that fries that are not hot taste a bit greasy. The milkshakes are delicious, but too thick in my opinion...you definitely need a spoon on this one. Not a bad place for a burger and fries, but prefer BGR or Elevation.

Finally a really good burger in Crystal City! (Teds is OK but doesn't hold a candle.) I think their burgers are very good -- if a bit on the heavier side (which is fine) -- but their herb fries, flavored mayos, and amazing shakes are what make it amazing. Plus they have beer and shandy on tap for great prices! It's excellent. I recommend the toasted marshmallow shake or the salted caramel. And I liked their Thai burger a lot! recommend!

Probably one of the worst over priced burgers I've had. The bread was tough like it had been in a microwave. The burger has no flavor and the toppings are not fresh. Next time I want a burger I'll just go in the Crystal City Underground and go to McDonald's. Listening to a manger/owner talk with his friend about their sales and using curse words in front of children just brought this review from two stars to one.

My original post was going to be three stars, but on the walk home I convinced myself that I couldn't lead you all astray. The GSE on Capitol Hill was great when it first opened - it was new, a novel concept. The Crystal City GSE, however, could easily have built on the newer "unique" hamburger experiences that are out there. As it is right now, it's pretty "blah", with a few exceptions. I'll start off with their shakes: these are the reason why you should go here. They're amazing. Super filling, and you probably could split a small one with someone else and be perfectly happy, but it's totally worth getting overall. I don't really do sweet stuff much anymore, so it was a nice treat, but one I won't be having again for a long time. The burger: disappointing. Not the size, not the toppings - both were good/solid. It was the haphazard way that it was presented. The burgers aren't given a minute to rest, so when they put it on your bun, the bun immediately gets soggy and grease-filled. If you've read any of my other posts, you know how much I detest soggy bread. Yuck. Anyways - the toppings all get unfortunately smushed together when the burger gets wrapped up, which also compresses the bun, and leads to a messy, unsightly burger where - like another reviewer said - you only notice that there's a burger and a bun and a mess when you try to eat it. I got the Obama burger, which had such great potential, but just wasn't executed well at all. Also, if you're going to charge that amount for your burgers, they'd better be good buns - these were smushed and soft - not golden and toasted brioche buns like a true artisan burger bun would or should be. The fries: they're okay. They aren't amazing, and I think just getting the regular ones is fine, though they're a bit oily as other reviewers have said. I had the rosemary fries when GSE originally opened on the Hill, but I think they tried a lot harder back then. At any rate, the fries really serve as the vehicle for the mayo bar offerings. Here is another place where GSE shines: their abundance of mayo choices. I got 3 to try today: horseradish, Old Bay, and Sriracha. Surprisingly, the horseradish one ended up being my "go to" dip. The Old Bay was great (I'm from MD, so no surprise there) but could probably be a bit too salty for most, and the sriracha is awesome if you like sriracha. I do, but it's a little overpowering even still. So why two stars, you say? Even though their shakes and their mayo selections are great, I didn't finish my burger and on the walk home, I just didn't feel great. Some burgers you can eat multi-patties (Elevation Burger) and still feel normal. I get a "fast food" feeling after eating here, and I won't be back again. It's worth a try if you're into "gourmet" burgers, and are OK spending $15/person for a burger, fries and a shake. But I'd be surprised if you didn't walk away with a similar conclusion to mine above. (Also: Totally agree with previous reviewers: Completely unsustainable restaurant, and they're absolutely into "greenwashing". Get rid of all the paper products and the single-use items if you're going to call yourselves environmentally friendly. Goodness gracious...)

If you want an expensive $13 greaseburger and exceptionally greasy, burnt fries, then go here for lunch. Burger was okay, but for $1.99 at McDonalds I could get twice the size and 1/3 the grease... Fries were, well, inedible... greasiest things I've ever seen, soggy as hell too... and bite sized... not one fry over 2 inches long, and burnt to almost a dark brown.. I don't even think they strained them before putting them into the greasy bag. Pricier than Five Guys, and not that much better... sorry guys, I wish you the best... but once the novelty wears off, you may be in trouble.... __________________ UPDATE!! we'll, it's only been about 10 minutes since I first posted, and the brown storm has descended upon my bowels... what did they fry those potatoes in? Castor Oil? YIKES!! Gotta run.... back to the bowl for round two of my greasy butt-vomit extravaganza...

If you want a great burger --go to this place!!! We went here tonight (Tuesday) and it wasn't very crowded. The setup for ordering is a bit weird but we figured it out. I had the Good Stuff burger and the sea salt fries with a mini pumpkin milkshake (I saw Spike make this seasonal milkshake on the Today show on Monday). WOW! My friends got the Milky Way shake and a toasted marshmallow shake so I was able to sample those as well. We all loved the food and will be going back :) Thank goodness I can walk to this location to burn off those extra calories!!!

A friend of mine recommended Good Stuff Eatery due to my affinity for burgers. The good thing about this place is the amount of options there are from the Blazin' Barn which incorporates a fusion of flavors to Good Stuff Melt. Both were tasty, but could have been slightly larger and better put together. Both burgers were messy and fell apart. The Spike's Village Fries were awesome! However some if not all of the fries were soaked through and dried out, but the flavor was awesome. The ambiance is relaxed and despite the influx of people for lunch, the line moved quickly. Our food was also served quickly since purchasing. In the meantime of waiting for the burgers, you can explore the various sauces they provide. I am huge on condiments therefore this place offers very different mayos to use however you please. Overall, its a good place to try out, but I wouldn't say its the best burger ever.

My goodness. Not exaggerating. The single worst turkey burger I have ever had in my life. I was starving, I managed two bites and threw it away. Just dry, horrible spice combination, horrible guac, burnt bun, just a wreck. To add to it, the fries were soggier than a wet mop. Just drenched in oil, resembled gummy worms more than fries. Just wow. I ended up eating vanilla pretzels for dinner, thats how bad it was.

After reading Yelp reviews, I was nervous about visiting Good Stuff Eatery. However, a number of my friends gave me great word-of-mouth recommendations, so my husband and I ventured out there on a Saturday night around 7 p.m. I expected a long line, per some Yelp reviews, but we were able to walk right up to the counter and put in an order. Then, we found a seat at a communal table with another family. After about three minutes, our buzzer went off and our food was ready. FOOD We ordered: Vegetarians are People, Too 'Shroom Burger - $6.98 Probably one of the best portobello burgers I have had. Everything was fresh. The flavors mixed well. The portobello was covered in bread crumbs, which was a nice change, and the bun was really tasty and fresh. Spike's Sunny Side Up Burger - $6.98 My husband really enjoyed this. He said it was "simple," but everything about it was done perfectly. He raved about it at least three to four times to me. He also liked the option of making any sandwich a chicken sandwich, even though he did not opt for it this time. Sunny's Handcut Fries (Regular - $3.69) The fries have received a bad rap on Yelp. Personally, I love crispy fries, which these fries are definitely not, so I should be the biggest hater. However, that being said, I actually found them to be pretty tasty despite their lack of crispiness. It may have been the sea salt or perhaps the delicious Sriracha mayo. This leads me to the "Dip Bar," where you can select a variety of dips for your fries/burger. Available at the Crystal City location were Mango mayo, Sriracha mayo, Chipotle mayo, Old Bay mayo, mustard and the old stand-by, ketchup. My absolute favorite was the Sriracha (a spicy mayo). My husband's favorite was the Mango. One suggestion I might add is that the restaurant add some different sauces outside of the mayo-based area. I like mayo, don't get me wrong, but I didn't feel exactly healthy using mayo as a dip or an addition. Toasted Marshmallow Shake (Regular - $5.45) Delicious. It wasn't as sweet as a I anticipated, but was a very tasty treat. The regular was more than enough for my husband and me after our meals, and we struggled to finish it. A mini-shake may have been a better option. The actual roasted marshmallow on top was a a great idea, but I don't think my husband thought it tasted as good as it looked. ATMOSPHERE It's a step up from, say, Five Guys. I am a social butterfly, but I am not a fan of communal tables. I like my privacy when I eat. I'd prefer a few more personal booths. It was a little noisy, but it's a burger eatery. It was clean. The employees were quick to clean off tables to make room for more people. The bathrooms could use some work. STAFF The staff was all really friendly, quick, and kept the place clean. No complaints here. OVERALL We'll definitely be back, and we'll be taking family and friends here when they are in town, because "goodness gracious", the food is good.

I'd give it two and a half stars. Looking at the menu options, this place looked promising. The food was a bit of a let down though. The burger was tasty, but on the small side and the bun was limp from the grease. Same with the village fries. The seasonings were a nice touch, but the fries are limp. I cannot stand limp fries =( The sauces are a very nice touch though. What drove me to a two star review was my ordering experience. The employee working the cash register was totally clueless, and didn't get my order or change right.

Although I love their variety and the choice to have a turkey patty on any of their burgers, I found the burgers either too greasy ( I had the Good Stuff version) or not enough toppings or flavors ( hubby had the free range turkey version with avocado). There was barely any avocado on it and mine was extra greasy and ultimately I didn't feel like finishing it. So although I am not a burger connoisseur and am not sure how it compares to other burger locations, I am not sure it won me over enough to return. ****One thing that would win me over and I think would fit in well with Spike's efforts to create a conscious consumer would be to post or allow the option of viewing nutritional info. ****

Honestly, This just tastes like a Five Guys, minus the hot dogs with beer. I wasn't crazy about the Steakhouse Burger, the sauce was super salty and the mushrooms overpowered the burger. The fries were good. I was impressed with the Cherry Blossom milkshake and the mango mayo to dip the fries in. This was my second attempt, thinking that it would be better. Next time I want a burger, I'm going to Five Guys

It's kind of hard to pick one rating 5-stars - Toasted Marshmallow Shake (worth a trip just for this) 4-stars - Burgers 2-stars - Inefficient and odd over-packaging fresh food The first time you look at the receipt, you'll say "oh, envirocharge. they're doing something for the environment." Then you'll receive a burger wrapped in paper and fries/onion petals in a paper cup in a stapled paper bag served on a tray lined with ... wait for it, paper! For SNL fans, the anal retentive chef would be proud. The practice might have been due to limited space at the original location but it's not an issue in Crystal City and even if it were, they could easily just make a stack of bags as needed. It takes a while to get your food. Many places do made-to-order burgers. Everyone does it faster. It would be ok but usually some part of your order will have been waiting for the rest (warm shake, soggy fries, etc.)

Went to see what all the fuss was about and yet again, yelpers were right, its a mixed bag here. Restaurant looks beautiful and inviting, it was busy but food only took 5 minutes to come out . The burgers were amazing, Colletti's Smokehouse and the Sunnyside burger were both delicious and had good flavors. Only thing was they were both cooked to medium - next time I will have to specify I do not want them pink in the middle. The brioche buns they use make a huge difference, and were buttery & fresh. The shakes were very good, quality homemade flavors, the Toasted Marshmallow was as described by others, tasty vanilla overload. The Milky Way Malt had tons of crumbled chocolate malt balls in it. Now onto the problem child - the fries! Strangely over-browned, yet limp and oily. All of the fries looked like the broken bits at the bottom of the bag (you know what I mean!), and none were longer than 2 inches. It was as if someone cut potatoes into quarters and made fries from that - why? And the salt overload killed the taste. The village fries with thyme & rosemary overdid the seasonings as well. It was a real bummer. Five Guys fries knock these wimps out of the park, hell even McD's fries are better than this..... This is so easy to fix .... I am not sure what the problem is here, but I hope they listen to customers and change this. I will definitely come back again to try some of the other burgers and shakes, and its a welcome addition to late night eats in Crystal City.

Great burger, if that is your thing. A little pricey for a burger, but the service is quick. The place is clean overall. Not a bad place for a lunch, a heavy burger lunch.

I ordered a Farmhouse Bacon Cheese chicken sandwich and fries. The bun was really small compared to everything else. And although it was a chicken sandwich, it was still as greasy as a hamburger. The taste wasn't bad, but about a quarter of the chicken was too rubbery to chew. For a fast food place I'd normally be OK with that, but this sandwich was $7.00.... The french fries aren't crispy, if that's your thing. They are, however, super salty and pretty greasy. Again really expensive (an additional $3.69 for just the fries, or $4.25 with a soda). The size of the meal was definitely smaller than something I'd get at the nearby Noodles or Chipotle, but I felt a bit gross after I ate it. I didn't get sick at all, though I certainly felt as though I had just consumed a lot of grease. There were a lot of people there, though, at 8 pm on a Sunday night. More kept coming and coming the whole time I was there. Even though there must have been at least 10 people in line at any given time, it only took about 5 minutes for me to get my order.

I completely recommend this place for anyone! The burgers are awesome! I love it that you can substitute chicken with any burger. I don't care your political affiliation you have to try the Obama Burger, my favorite! Fries are great and as a Maryland, not only do they have old bay and vinegar, they have a Old Bay sauce that is perfect. I love the fact that everything is organic and locally grown. Look if you are looking for a good burger and fires this place will surpass your expectations!

Came here 2 nights in a row- yummy. Fresh burgers and fries with lots of dip sauces for free to try on your fries. Loved the egg burger! Hit or miss on service from cashier. Last night very friendly and today very short and almost like we were a bother. She seemed irritated when we asked how the snack size fries compares to regular.

This place is a little on the high side when it comes to food, but we're willing to pay more for great customer service and utilizing local resources. We stopped here for lunch shortly after our flight got in. I ordered the Caesar salad with chicken which was very tasty. I wish it would have come with fries instead of cornbread, but didn't feel like paying a ton for a little side. FYI - Aren't wedge salads served on a wedge of lettuce? If you're expecting that, you don't get it here as mine was in a plastic bowl which doesn't bother me, but might bother you if you get hung up on specifics. My husband enjoyed his burger so there really are no complaints here.

I wanted to like this place. I really did. After coming here on two different occasions I decided that I would not be coming back. I hear their milkshakes are pretty good,so I may come back to give those a try but the burgers and fries will be a NO GO. Opening the wrapper, the lack of presentation is obvious. The bread has no integrity, and was completely mushed against the patty. They provide you with a good portion of flavorless beef. The toppings also did not add to the flavor. I have had bacon cheeseburgers from several establishments and this failed to meet up to my expectations. Not that it didn't taste good, it just didn't taste like anything. My fries were disappointing to say the least. Not crunchy. Not hot. No good. They were limp... almost a bit soggy and cold. I returned my fries and the employee said 'Our fries don't get crispy.' What what? Than use a new potato or some different oil because I believe the majority of America enjoys crispy fries. I hope this place evolves. If your fries don't get crispy find fries that do. If your bun has no integrity find a brand that does. And since its not hard to find a good burger, it will be easy for me to walk by this place everyday after work. But I will say that customer service here is great. The only reason why I didn't give them 1 star.

First off: know that you HAVE to get a milkshake here. Toasted marshmallow with hot fudge around the sides is life changing. The burgers are also real good. I've tried the sunnyside, (really good if you like fried eggs on your burger and if you don't then you are just wrong) the turkey burger (has avacado so how could it not be good) and the prez obama (it was recommended but had too much saice for my liking). Their village fries are awesome as well as the regular fries. The onion petals aren't something that I will be ordering again. It's convenient, fast, inexpensive and easy.

Their burgers and fries are absolutely delicious! I have been there three times and have tried three different burgers and loved each one. So far the blazin barn (w/bacon) is one that I would order again on the spot. After ordering I received my burger and fries within 5 minutes. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the area.

Love the original on the Hill but come here because they are open Sundays and usually much less crowded at the hours we go. Burger is tasty- love the blazin' barn and the steakhouse in particular. I don't understand the ratings calling this a greasy burger- it really is not at all. Addictive fry sauces- especially Sriracha. And the milkshake. This is a 4 star place until you get to the toasted marshmallow shake. Then Yelp doesn't have enough stars to give. I've had it dozens of times and every time it is one of the best things ever to cross my lips.

Try this place out for the first time and was blown away. I had a cheeseburger with fried onions and bacon on it and OMG it was amazing. Both of my kids agreed that these were the best burger we've had in a long time. The fries are really good and the shakes are better than average.

Great food, quick service. Onion pedals leave something to be desired but everything else is wonderful. The fries are top notch and you can't go wrong with any of their shakes. Their sauce bar is also great. Much better then the standard "Ketchup or Mustard" fair.

Pros: The burgers are excellent. The fries are just average. Cons: Regarding the restaurant itself: (1) the condiment area is typically messy and not well-stocked. They have those annoying plastic cups to put the ketchup in and on more than one occasion, the ketchup was empty; (2) the staff has always been nice except for yesterday. The young man who took my order (who has a nose ring) never made eye contact and never said thank you when I paid. The same man served me my food when I was paged to the counter. Once again, no eye contact. He used the pager to shove the tray toward me and did not say a word.

The food is always on point here & it's so delicious. The Service is always really good here as well. Definitely one of my favorites!

Good Stuff is exactly that, good stuff! That kind of comprehensive analysis should be review enough, but I'll break it down. The restaurant is spacious and well designed, with a number of TVs showing news or sports. Those and the solid tunes they play are plenty to keep one occupied while waiting for the delicious food. After ordering, you're given a beeper that will alert you to when your food is ready. Keeps people from hovering around the service area, which is nice. The food is very, very good. The burgers are juicy and deceptively filling. They aren't meat-and-cheese gutbombs like at Five Guys, but by the end I felt like I had my fill. The ingredients all taste very fresh, and they don't overseason/overcook the burgers to Bolivian and back. My more cultured friends all vouch for the burger that comes with an egg on it. My more provincial tastes run to the standard cheese or bacon cheeseburger. Was never disappointed. The shakes are fantastic, and the small size you get with a burger-and-fry combo is plenty to get the job done. Their Oreo shake is one of my favorites, and that's no small feat considering there's a Cold Stone just a few doors away. The fries are also good, though I'm not as over-the-moon about them as I am the burgers and shakes. They do provide an assortment of dips for the fries, if that's your thing. To the surprise of no one, plain ketchup is fine with me. Good Stuff is one of my favorite lunch places in Crystal City. For my burger dollar, it's between here and Ted's Montana Grill. Normally the debate comes down to whether I want to be extra-gluttonous with bison nachos or a milkshake. Truly, the struggle is real.

This is my "go to" place when I feel like I need to eat something healthy, like a salad. My theory is it helps wash away the donut grease clogging my arteries. The Greek Wedge salad does the trick with fresh lettuce, olives, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers and sesame seeds. The little shoots of fennel are a nice touch as well. The ingredients taste fresh, like you would have made it at home. And they know how to put just enough dressing on a salad without overdoing it. Service is fast and the staff helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that there aren't a few more beverage choices, such as coffee or tea.

The main reason for the 3 stars instead of 4 stars is the price. Not that the burger was tremendously overpriced, yet I thought the meal didn't quite live up to the pricing. The Vietnamese coffee shake was a hit and definitely NOT cheap for a shake (rather pricey actually). The burgers were all decent, no one had any real complaints. However, I've had better fast-food burgers in the area (Shake Shack to name one). I know Good Stuff was meant to be more gourmet but I wasn't super impressed with what we had. A few of us had the free range turkey burger and the rest had the standard cheese burgers. Nothing special, nothing to write home about so I'll be skipping this next time I get a burger craving.

Being a pescetarian, I got the mushroom "burger" and loved it! The cheese inside was a nice tough and the crunch added the perfect amount of texture. I also got the village fries. It seemed like they just chunked a bunch of rosemary on, but they were still damn good fries. Lastly, I got the Vietnamese coffee milkshake. What I expected was not what I got. It wasn't outwardly coffee-y. I can't even explain how good it was. It kind of tasted like what I expected the salted caramel to taste - I even doubted that it was even coffee until I got confirmation. Anyway, it was the best milkshake I've ever had. Not heavy and not too sweet. Just perfect. Miss this place - please open one in Memphis, tn!!!

3.5/4 stars on Burgers are pretty good here. Good quality meat, cooked well, but isn't seasoned. If they season it with just a little bit of salt and pepper, the burgers would be perfect. 1 Star on the Fries. Terrible! Not prepared right! Not cooked right! The fries were burnt! Cooked in over used oil that needed to be change! I can smell the burn oil that covered the fries. And when I look around, it seems like these people just like burnt food and believe all the BS they feed people just because the place looks nice and has a picture of some wannabe chef on the wall. Burgers are solid, but a bit high just for a burger with no fries (however, it is DC). Of course, you should try it and judge for yourself. I recommend the burgers and avoid the fries.

I had the Colettis burger - delicious! The onions were delicious. Fries were also very good. You must have a shake - They are amazing! We didn't eat inside there but the interior was really cute too. Staff was really friendly and helpful.

Best burgers, fries and milkshakes ever. They just need a location in NY so i can stop hauling fries and old bay mayo back home every time i visit.

Hankering a burger done right, Good Stuff Eatery delivers and then some! Been a fan of @chefspike for a while, so may be a little biased :) but for burgers, fries and shakes in Crystal City, it's gotta be GSE. More dipping sauces than you can count (unless you can count higher than 7) and if you haven't dipped the Sriracha sauce, you haven't lived! Oh, they serve beer too!

My husband and I went there last week and it was just okay. If you're looking for a place to go with friends and have a conversation over burgers and shakes, this probably isn't the place for you. The music was way too loud for the size of the place. I was sitting directly across from my husband at a two-top and I couldn't hear what he was saying. The food was good, but they used too much salt on pretty much everything. I also think it's overpriced for the portions you get, at least for the burger. I had a Milky Way milkshake and it was delicious, probably the best part of the whole experience. I'd give them the benefit of a doubt and go back, but I know there are better places to grab a burger.

I love Good Stuff Eatery, but today was the best experience yet. They were making fresh ice cream and gave my kids a sample, the the awesome owner Dave came to chit chat and gave my whole family free milkshakes. If you have tried Good Stuff you're missing out on good stuff!!

Likes: the condiment sauces and draft beer. Shakes. Price. So-so: the burger patty itself. The fries. Dislikes: none. I enjoyed myself but would not go back unless I was just walking by as hunger struck.

I've been here a handful of times and it never disappoints. I don't come here for the fries or the milkshakes...I come here for the BURGERS. Best burger in the DMV in my opinion. My favorite is the Prez Obama Burger, but my goal is to taste each and every burger on the menu before I die. So if you want a good reasonably priced burger in the DC area, Good Stuff is the place to go.

  • Eboni B.

We love a great burger...this place has been our number one for some time! We have tried many many burgers and while some are near in ratings, Good Stuff is still leading the category! The burgers are always cooked to perfection and I happen to love the fries! You must have a cookies and cream shake to complete the order. I am not a fan of the Good Stuff Sauce so I always get them without the sauce. Great variety of shakes and burgers so give them a try! They are not open on Sundays so get it in Monday - Saturday!

  • Nelson H.

Place is extemely overpriced. Fries and drink are an extra $5 on top of the $6 for a burger. The sunnyside burger is tasty with sriacha but the fries are lacking. I prefer going to Fridays to get a 2 for $10 for an angus burger. In comparison to the other burger joints.... Rays Hell Burger is #1, BGR #2, Five Guys #3. Goodstuff is somewhere after #10.

It was good, but some of their stuff is too clever by half. I had a peppermint milkshake and it was.. honestly... not that great because the minty taste overpowered everything else. So... go conservative on the strange stuff, and the basics (burgers, fries, and shakes) will be good.

Definitely not health food. Rosemary fries are super greasy and the burger is delicious but it's a grease/calorie bomb. Service was friendly and didn't take too long.

Good stuff eatery, really? I think a better name would be the bad stuff eatery. I was not a fan off this place at all. Everything was so fat-laden and messy. My husband and I ordered two burgers and the village fries to share. We shared because on first glance at the menu everything sounded so good, and we wanted to try it all however nothing was good. To start, Spike's sunny side burger was awful, and we were as shocked by this as I'm sure you are, because I have never met a burger with an egg on it before that I didn't like. My husband and I just couldn't get over how a burger with an egg on it could be bad, but it was a serious fatty, greasy mess. The best part was the lettuce and tomato I had to specifically ask for. The village fries were salt and spice overload, seriously too much. I wish we just ordered the plain fries. Other things I didn't like about this restaurant included: 1. Every table was dirty, and no one was cleaning them. 2. The wastefulness of resources by bagging and wrapping every order even when you are eating in. 3. The environmental fee added to your bill. 4. Spike's image on every wall. Yes, we know it's your restaurant and that you were on TV, but seriously it's a bit egotistical. When I go Jose andre's restaurant, or michelle Bernstain's or John Besh's all which offer much better food by the way, you don't have to stare at their face the whole meal.

Its the same as the one in DC - and does a great job. The village fries and the different types of mayo hit the spot. The shakes are good - you can easily split the large between two people. I like the burgers here - not as greasy as BGR and more flavorful than Five Guys, and bigger than the ones at Shake Shack(although all three do have pretty darn good offerings too...)Recommend.

It's more like "OK Stuff". I have no problem going for a burger when someone wants to meet up, but I wouldn't go here normally. It's basically like a counter-service diner that makes burgers and adds herbs and garlic to your fries. It's ok, but with so many good places in DC just a few metro stops away, why would I go here?

    (3)
  • Ingrid P.

I only happened upon this place strolling on the main street in Crystal City. It seemed like a Five Guys so I didn't expect much from it. I was surprised that Spike Mendelsohn was the chef behind the menu. The burger options were not very creative and an order was more expensive than a typical burger place. If I was going to pay for what I did, I wanted a gourmet burger. I have had better ones so unless you don't have many options, I wouldn't go here.

When Good Stuff Eatery was first introduced in NOVA it was talked about the possibility of being a de-throner of the boutique burger king 5 Guys. Unfortunately GSE does not live up to the billing. My friend and I have eaten here on a couple of occasions and apparently the thought of reviewing has slipped my mind. Starting with the space. Its an open dining area, littered with high top tables, some booths, and some regular dining tables. The kitchen is open, and one could watch their whole meal be prepared. The fare offered is what I like to call 'soda shop americana'. A wide variety of burgers, fries, milkshakes, and chicken sandwiches. With the boutique style burger shops, normally the burger (or sandwich) is the centerpiece of the meals, but the unique spin here at Good Stuff are the condiments offered for the fries or sandwiches. They had mango mayo, chipotle mayo, siriachi style, and basic ketchup. I can appreciate the unique spin they're trying to sell, but if I am paying $6+ for a burger, I'm not going to try and hide it beneath sauces or flavored mayos. I want to taste the beef, the bun, the cheese. So I ordered the smokehouse burger, medium. This was the burger with American cheese, bacon, fried onion ring, and BBQ sauce (I could have done without). As far as the burger goes, it was a mediocre burger where the meat is an afterthought when it comes to the meal. If the burger is the afterthought, what is the forethought? The show stopper, scene stealer French fries. They're fresh cut, they're booked well done so they're not soggy and slippery, their flavor doesn't NEED all of the sauces offered by the restaurant, but BENEFIT from the variety. I have not had an opportunity to try the milk shakes, but have heard they're great.

Good Stuff? More like "okay stuff" with excellent milkshakes. The Steakhouse burger wasn't bad but was a little greasy and it didn't have as much flavor as burgers at some other places. Warning, if you don't like mayo (I despise it) then be sure to order your burger without the "Good Stuff" sauce. The fries were very soft and more greasy than I'd prefer. They didn't seem totally fresh which was odd because it was crowded when I was there. They have a variety of sauces for your fries but most are mayo-based. It seems like Good Stuff can't decide if they are trying to be a cheaper, faster concept like Five Guys or more of a BGR/Ray's concept. The burger and fries weren't bad but weren't spectacular either. I'd go back but wasn't overly impressed on this visit.

This is one of Chef Spike's (Top Chef) restaurant. Burgers are a sacred food item to me. There is absolute no excuse for a poor burger. The Big Stuff Bacon meltdown was excellent. The ratio of meat, cheese, and bacon was spot on. The flavor of the beef was very good and not drowned out by the cheese and bacon. The fries were also solid. Nice flavor. Fresh. Greaser than some probably like, but this was not a problem for me. The staff were also nice. Would definitely eat at Good Stuff again.

This place is hit or miss. I've ordered the Steakhouse burger a couple times. Once it was really good. The other time I think they spilled salt on it. Most recently I had the Shroom burger. It was NOT made to order. It was luke warm and must have been pre-fried and sitting there for a while before I ordered it. Between 2 to 3 stars. I'm always disappointed, but keep going back every now then.

I heard about this place from two close friends, but was compelled to try one I saw in The Washingtonian's top 25 best burgers 2014. I only eat turkey burgers so the fact that they have it as an option, gave it a star unti itself as some burger joints only serve beef which isn't fair bc there are plenty non-beef burger lovers! I do have to say this is the best turkey burger around....I ordered one Obama burger subbed with Turkey instead of beef and one michelle burger (which is already turkey) any they were both phenomenal. I'd I had to choose one, though, the Obama burger would be it. Prior to this, fuddruckers made tht best turkey burger, to me. Pros: they also have some of the best milkshakes ive ever had!!! Try cookies and cream, or my personal favorite, half vanilla half chocolate. The Arlington location is way cleaner, nicer, and has more space than the penn ave location. Cons: fries are a bit too greasy. Beware the size of the obama burger is not monstrous, but it will make up for that in taste!

  • Jen M.

I've been here a handful of times. A good place. I tried the turkey burger and it was just okay (lacked salt - was better once I put salt on it). The bacon cheese burger was decent, but just very messy. I am a fan of their fries. I know some people don't really like non-crunchy fries, but I do - sometimes for lunch, I will just get the small bag of fries with one of the sauces I love (it's a sweeter sauce, like the mango or something). And when I feel like splurging I go for a shake. The only one I've tried so far is the toasted marshmallow shake, which is also delicious. I've been wanting to try the Salted Caramel shake or others, but I haven't tried it yet for fear that it wouldn't measure up. I only eat here every now and then - it's just heavy high carb food and that's not helping with my weight loss goals.

The place is great, the attention is one of the kind and the food is delicious. They have maybe one of the bests milkshakes that I have drank in my entire life, I will definitely come back.

Come hungry! Great place to go for a burger, some fries and a shake. They have lots of burger options and tons of dipping sauces. Their fries are either plan or rosemary fries (they're legit) and the shakes are sooo gooooood. We've taken our parents here as well as little kids. It's a great place to eat good food, people watch, and chill.

I confess that I'm not a big burger fan, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. But my burger was swimming in grease. It was not over or under cooked, though. And the Vidalia onion ring was tasty, but added to the heaviness an greasiness. I would not come here again, but can see that people who love greasy burgers would disagree.

I always said that if I died tomorrow that everyone could say at my funeral that I lived my life to the fullest w/out any regrests - NOT. That wasn't true until I tried the amazing steak burger I had here the other night. After ready Charles H.'s review and seeing the description on the wall, I had to have it. I think what sold me was the mushrooms and YET I added bacon just to give me an extra heart attack. Plus Bobby K. kept raving about the toasted marshmallow shake. Those damn yelpers I tell you put something in your head and you gotta see and taste for yourself! So, I get there right after shopping at Pentagon City and walk up to the register and see CoCo Sala Chocolate laying in front neatly packaged calling my name 'buy me, buy me, please'. I ignore the temptation because in my head, I'm counting up the the 1,700+ calories I'm about to consume, so NO to CoCo Sala Choc this time around. Anyway, got my burger and it was soooo good. I almost wish I hadn't ordered the fries because it was taking away from my burger. All the flavors were all mixed perfectly...from the cremini mushrooms to the swiss cheese and even the amazing bacon. I will opt to do w/out the fries next time as I am a loyal fan of the ones at Cinco Hermanos. So, to top it all off, I get the Toasted Marshmallow shake and the cashier assumes I want the large, REALLY? A girl has to watch her figure, guess it does NOT Apply here. Anyway, after the first slurp of this thick shake, I've died and gone to heaven. It was that creamy goodness all wrapped up in one. I took it to go and barely 1/2 mile down the road and I'm digging in the cup for the last drop of shake. So, the cashier knew ME all along, that I should have gotten the large. Sometimes a girl has to feel good about herself when she doesn't supersize, maximize or order the XL size option of good/bad thing! What I realize after eating the burger and downing my shake...is this what dreams are made of -- 'THE GOOD STUFF"?

The burger (Farmhouse Bacon Cheese - with Cheddar not American it came with) was ok, but nothing to rave about. It was not $7 burger quality. I've definitely had better. I am a fry person and the fries looked good - I love fresh cut fries. Unfortunately I ended up throwing them out because they were cold, soggy and greasy. They were utterly disgusting. (I carried out the order so I couldn't go back and ask for new, edible fries) The one positive I can say about the place is the shakes. Course, it is pretty hard to mess up a shake. They do have a good variety, though. I had the Salty Caramel Kiss and it was good. Not worth the price, but good. For as much as I paid (I think $16 for a burger, fries, and shake) I would have expected the meal to be MUCH better. Unfortunately, I had to toss half of it. Will definitely not be going again.

Spikes burgers are EPIC. I'm a huge fan of the good stuff melt in particular. Village fries, toasted marshmellow and you have a meal fit for a king or the soothing food you need for a hangover. Don't look at the calorie content, just eat and be happy. Worth the stop and now open on Sundays!

This is my 3rd time at Good Stuff Eatery but my first time at the Crystal City location. It's a bit smaller than the Capitol Hill one but definitely helps that you don't have to go find upstairs seating. It wasn't too crowded when I walked in but I think it was still early for dinner goers since it was around 6:30 or so. They were pretty efficient took my order and within 5-10 mins my order as ready. I ordered the Smokehouse burger without Swiss. I suppose my burger was a bit on the dry side but I take into account that I didn't order cheese which would help with the moisture but still dry compared to the other ones I've tried.the fries weren't as crispy as the last time I got them so I was a bit disappointed. All together my burger and snack fries set me back about 10.50 ish. No drink included. I can't say this was my best experience at Good Stuff but that doesn't mean I won't be returning...I still love their milkshakes and the taste and flavors are still there it just wasn't executed during my visit.

  • Benjamín S.

You can get an equally good hamburger at Five Guys? Bro, do you even hamburger? Sure, the burgers are on the small side. But you know what else is? The prices. Top-quality gourmet burgers here (The Obama, for example) are cheaper than a lot of the other area eateries of note. In the category of value for money, Good Stuff is right up there. Why four stars? Well, realistically it's more like 3.5. My major complaint is the quality control. Medium rare means medium rare, not medium well, and other top burger joints in the area can get it right consistently.

    (4)
  • Darren S.

This was my second visit to this location to satisfy my craving for a quality burger. I ordered the blazin' barn burger, Sunnys fries and the onion petals. While the burger's description promises a lot of variety and flavor, it lacked both. The bun and meat are clearly fresh and of good quality. The fries are quite good. The variety of dipping sauces are great: sriracha mayo and old bay mayo are delicious! The onion petals are essentially a flat onion ring but are tasty. While the food is consistent and good, the price points are a little high. I would return but am not going out of my way as burger eateries in the DC area are going rapidly.

Good stuff eatery is delicious...and almost lives up to all the hype! Spike's Sunny Side Up burger, coupled with some village fries or vidalia petals is a perfectly satisfying (I didn't say healthy!) meal. The shakes are great too, especially the marshmallow flavor. The President Obama Burger is also amazing. The lines at Good Stuff can be at times overwhelming, but the efficient staff help move things along quickly. The different flavored mayo (including mango flavor!) add a little something different to the menu, and there is a small but good selection of beer. Seating is nice upstairs and outdoors...if you can find it. Probably my biggest complaint is that it can be inconsistent at times... I have had burgers ranging from 3-5 stars depending on time/day. Also, WISH THEY HAD A BURGER SALAD! Seriously, just put a burger minus the bun on top of some lettuce, and I'd be happy! But maybe that's just me.... Might want to consider going at a weird hour, to avoid the lines. I definitely need to try the new Georgetown location!

  • Kelly G.

Just as I draft my review about liking the Crystal City Good Stuff better than the one on Capitol Hill, a new one opens up in Georgetown. Darn. Gotta try it, too! I tried the Michelle Obama with a non-whole-grain bun, bacon, and swiss. As a standalone burger, it was quite the piece of work. The sauces though. Mmm. Those sauces catapult this burger to the outer reaches of the burgersphere. I mean there are like so many to choose from and you can have as much of each as you want. Nope, there isn't a $0.50 upcharge for extra or different sauces. I love the fries, too. Oooh all hot and crispy without being greasy. Love them. I won't $ay I'll eat here every day. But when I do, I'll know I'll be pleased. I'm a fan of good stuff.

I am not a big fan of burgers but my boyfriend is. So over the course of the last 4 years, we have tried every burger place in the DC/VA area and this one is my favorite! I crave this place and I love this location. It is much bigger, cleaner, and parking is not as bad - there are parking garages in CC! I always get the Obama burger (Applewood bacon, onion marmalade, roquefort cheese & delicious horseradish mayo sauce) with village fries. This place is sauce heaven!!! I actually like dipping my fries in all of their sauces - especially Sriracha Mayo, & Chipotle mayo The BF gets the Smokehouse burger (Applewood bacon, sharp vermont cheddar fried vidalia onion rings with chipotle bbq sauce) and he swears by it! It's hard to complain about a burger with a crispy onion ring on it. The size of the burgers are perfect for me. I can actually finish the whole thing and still have room to split a Toasted Marshmallow milkshake with Jon at the end. My waistline is very thankful that I no longer work and live in Crystal City.

This place is supposed to famous or something because the owner was a contestant on some food show? Unfortunately I didn't even get to taste the food because service stinks! The girl on the counter was rude when taking my order. And then she promptly forgot or tossed my order away even after taking my money. I waited literally over 10 minutes before asking about my order and they say 'oh sorry we didn't have your order but we'll make it right away'. Seriously? I was so upset that I asked them for a refund and did not even take the complimentary food they offered. I don't want your free food. Just do your job right and hire some friendlier people.

Good stuff is the way to go for a burger in Crystal City! Very gourmet and is not in comparison with any other burger on the strip! P.S. other than Ted 's that is...

  • C B.

The basic burger here is pretty good. It's not great. The handcut fries are ... just awful. Soggy. Mushy. Lots of sauces, like various kinds of mayo (sriracha/horseradish/chipotle). Service is fine. Pretty loud, though. Overall, I thought it was fine, but I doubt I'll be back anytime soon.

  • Jenn M.

Their food definitely is "good stuff" but it's not great. Like everyone's reviews said, the burgers are small for the price we pay! But even though it's small, it is tasty and flavorful. I had the Prez Obama Burger (Applewood Bacon, Onion Marmalade, Roquefort Cheese & Delicious Horseradish Mayo Sauce) and it was pretty decent. I wish I took some kind of Cheese 101 class because there is just way too many cheese out there for me to get to know their taste. Roquefort cheese is similar to crumbled blue cheese to me, which I'm not a fan of. And dummy me, I have mistaken Horseradish for Hollandaise sauce (that stuff they put on eggs benedict, which I looove). I am also not a fan of Horseradish too lol. So if you like all the ingredients in this type of burger - by all means! The snack size fries were plentiful and can easily be shared by two people (unless you're a fry-snob then get the larger size!). My boyfriend and I shared the Toasted Marshmallow Shake and it was incredibly good! It is a bit thick and you might pop a vein in your head trying to get all that deliciousness through the straw. Don't forget to visit the Dip Bar! Get one of each like we did! This place is worth a try at least once. I'm from California where they can make pretty mean burgers. So the hunt goes on for the best burgers in town...

Omg...this burger is amazing. Yes they are pricey, but it's worth it. Fresh ground beef, crispy fries, and the sauce is awesome. Shake shack has competition.

Good burgers and interesting sauces, but not quite worth the price. Milkshakes are over-priced. Fries are decent, but too pricey as well. If you don't like greasy food, AVOID Good Stuff Eatery. I imagine if you had some drinks and were coming back to Crystal City, it might be a good (but pricey) spot to stop for a heavy snack.

Love good stuff! They have best burgers in town and I have tried all 3 locations. Problem is that yesterday my daughters and I did the Crystal City location and though the food was good, could not chat amongst ourselves due to the blaring music. It was so bad I had to prove a point and downloaded a sound meter ... 92-98 decibels the entire time! Can only imagine the loss of sensitivity using a phone mic, the real numbers were probably over 100. Now I love good music as much as anyone, but when you have to hurry through your burger so you can have a conversation, that is a problem.

A great place if you are looking for a place to grab a quickish bite the burgers ( I had the steakhouse) are delicious but substandard for the size especially if they want to call themselves "American" it was hardly filling. Also the ice cream was spot on in my root beer float. Dining area was clean the kitchen was in view and clean as well the cashier was friendly and everything flowed properly so pretty solid 4 star overall

First time at this location and absolutely loved it. Had a really bad day today and needed some serious comfort food. My boyfriend knew that I have been wanting to come here (we've only been the one in capitol hill once), so when he suggested it i immediately said yes! I had the burger melt which has 2 different types of cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms. It was delish! Though the mushrooms may have been a little over done. My boyfriend had the colettis smokehouse burger which has bacon, cheese, fried onion rings and Chipotle bbq sauce. Let's say he finished the whole thing rather quickly. We shared a side of fries and fried onion petals. The onion petals were absolutely amazing. Could have done without the fries. I told you I needed comfort food so obviously we didn't leave without some milkshakes. We both got oreo cookie shakes. The best part is the real whipped cream they use (not the canned kind). The guy knew I needed comfort food so he gave me an extra oreo :) Well I am totally paying for my food indulgence. I have been completely full and uncomfortable the entire night. Oh well, well worth it!

Surprisingly delicious! I wasn't expecting much, but my burger was actually outstanding. I got the Sunnyside which comes with bacon and an egg (I ordered mine over-hard vice runny)...I thoroughly enjoyed the cow, pig, chicken combo. Try that one! I highly scoff the $4.25 they charge to add fries and a drink to your burger! Seriously? It's a potato and a fountain Coke! They must use small potatoes too because none of the fries seemed to be longer than 2 inches long.

The burgers are pretty good, and the toppings are put together well. I've eaten here a few times, and haven't had a burger I didn't like. The fries are delicious, and onion petals are pretty good too. Their milkshakes are amazing! Also, the customer service here is fantastic! I was waiting for a little over five minutes for my burger, and the person behind the counter buzzed me up and told me that because I had been waiting so long I could have a free shake. When I went the next time, I ordered a burger, fries, and a shake and the manager gave a soda for free. They're doing a good job of getting me to come back, and keep drinking their shakes.

I was visiting DC and had people raving about this place. While I think the food is high quality, I'm not sure I notice the quality much higher than a Five Guys but I pay a lot more for it. The shakes were good but rather small for the price I paid. I had a COLLETTI'S SMOKEHOUSE burger and enjoyed it, but once again didn't feel like a similarly priced $7 burger somewhere else was any less in quality. The fries weren't your standard fries (I didn't do the rosemary & thyme) but found them enjoyable still. I also ordered an oreo shake, which was tasty once again but by the end of it, I'm not sure I believe I got a great value for $15. Then again I'm from Denver where things tend to run a little cheaper than out in DC. I'll let you be the judge if it's overpriced. Overall great place, I would recommend anyone try it at least once.

Big Stuff Bacon Meltdown $9 (4/5 NOMs). Its double the meltdown. Double patty, double cheese and lots of bacon? Yea, so ordering this! I love all the cheesey goodness in there. Meat was very flavorful, butI kind of wish there was more bacon. I think it got overpowered by all the cheese. I have to try it again. Sunny's Handcut Fries $4 (4/5 NOMs). They are so happy. At first I wasn't sure if I liked these fries. I thought there was a bit too much sea salt, but in the end I really enjoyed them. Just got to toast them around a bit to spread the salt. They went great with their amazing assortment of condiments like mago mayo and sriracha mayo No burger can go without these nomnom fries. Onion Rings (5/5 NOMs). No burger can go without some side onion rings and french fries. I really enjoyed these onion rings. They were not too greasy and went great with their amazing assortment of condiments like mango mayo and sriracha mayo. Who has sriracha mayo??? They were very nice and gave us the recipe for this amazing mayo Salty Caramel Kiss Shake $6 (4/5 NOMs). Very caramly milkshake, I didn't think like I was getting any kisses, but still enjoyed it. You can never go wrong with caramel. I didn't really taste the salty part, but was not a big deal breaker for me. Toasted Marshmallow Shake $6 (4/5 NOMs). You know me, I just must order anything that sounds unusual. This did not disappoint. Very weird and good milkshake order. I'm not sure if I really tasted the marshmallow, but still enjoy the milkshake. I will have to try it again to reconfirm. They did make a mistake and accidentally gave me Vanila Milkshake $5 instead. They were very quick to fix the mistake and gave me incorrect milkshake for free. So I got two for price of one. I liked the Vanilla Milkshake, and not just because it was free. You can never go wrong with vanilla.

Much better than the downtown DC location by LoC. Cleaner and friendly atmosphere, good service and delicious food. Not so easy to park near, but several pay lots underground though.

July Burger of the Month! Happy Independence Day America! Mother Nature's gift is a heatwave. Awesome. So I finally got to try Good Stuff. I was hoping for better stuff. Cliche? Sorry. I ordered the Peppercorn burger combo and upgraded to a sea salt caramel milkshake. So, I'll start with this - Yummmmmmmmmy shake but the rest left me a little disappointed. The burger wasn't cooked medium as requested. Peppercorn taste? Yes. Cheese? Yes. Mushrooms? Yes, lots! The meat was kinda meh to me for some reason. The fries were soggy beyond saving. The dipping mayos were alright, but lacked a punch that I was hoping for. I think I'll stick to ketchup next time. The shake was kids size, but perfect for the heat and I love sea salt caramel. (If you ever need to butter me up for something, this is what you get me..) Next month awaits!

If you want an awesome burger, shake and fries good stuff eatery is the place! The food was delicious and the quality if the ingredients used shined through. The ambiance is so cute and its like a meal at the most upscale barn you could imagine. You have to go and see for yourself.

I'm a big foodie obsessed with the Food Network Channel and Top Chef... I was really hoping the burgers here would be good. I tried the Steakhouse Burger and can't remember anything special about it. The fries were soggy and oily. Quite a disappointment. =/

Full disclosure: We ate here on the the evening of their grand opening. It was a madhouse, and at times there seemed to be at least one employee for every three customers. And yet, with so many employees there, the service was nonexistent. We ordered for five people, and the poor young lady taking our order seemed confused by even the slightest special request (I wanted a burger with bacon, but no cheese.) We suspected we weren't going to get correct orders, and they didn't disappoint. They gave us one of those coaster pagers to alert us when our order was ready and we got the heck out of the way. Once we sat down at a table, someone decided it would be a good idea to turn on some music and crank it up way past Chipotle level (ever been in a Chipotle when they have the music on? Mind-numbing.), which made an already extremely noisy room nearly unbearable. Fast-forward 35 minutes. The coaster pager was still quiet (the only quiet thing in the restaurant!). While hungrily waiting for our meal to be ready, we watched no fewer than five owners/investors/managers stand in the way of the customers, slapping each other on the back and ignoring the folks who were there to eat. I didn't see any of them press palms with anyone sitting at a table; there were several people who were obviously patiently waiting for their food (us included) whose irritation could have been alleviated by a quick, "How's everything going tonight?" from one of the staff. No dice. After 35 minutes, watching some of the people who were behind us in line enjoying their food, I pushed my way to the food pick-up counter, produced my lifeless coaster/pager and receipt, and asked if our food was ready. A nice young lady who appeared to be at least one step above cashier exclaimed, "Oh yeah! It's right here," at which time she produced a bag and four melted shakes from a shelf off to the side of the counter - it had clearly been sitting there a while. "Ooh, do you want us to make you some new shakes? These ones look a little melted." "Yes, please." I took the mostly cold burgers and fries to the table and returned for the shakes, which took another 10 minutes to make. Now to the food. The shakes were really good, no doubt about it. The burgers - well, there was no consistent size among the five burgers we ordered, and mine was so pink in the middle, it couldn't have been on the grill for more than a couple of minutes. I couldn't finish it. By the way, no bacon. Alas, the special order was too much for the cashier. With no fewer than 20 people behind the counters, one would have thought the food could get cooked properly and as requested. Again, it was opening night, so that may have had something to do with the craptastic experience. The problem is, the management could have eased the problems by engaging with the customers rather than high-fiving each other and getting in the way. Just sayin'. It was a terrible dining experience, and for my money, I'll go to Five Guys the next time I'm near Crystal City and want a burger. Bottom Line: Good shakes, so-so burgers, pitiful service.

We went here with really high hopes based on the reviews from the DC location. The wait was almost excessive for this type of foodery. Based on the prices alone, we expected phenomenal burgers, awesome sides, and more soda options. We were disappointed with the small portions, limited options for sides (can we have a healthy option?!) and the limited amount of soda selections. Maybe we're spoiled by the great value and amazinggggg burgers at The Burger Joint in Old Town, but the bonus is that Good Stuff is within walking distance. Note: I did not try a milkshake, but they looked good. It's tough to come for just milkshakes when ColdStone is right down the street.

I have never written a review before, but I feel compelled to comment on Good Stuff after my lunch experience today. The service at the Crystal City location went completely above and beyond our expectations. When we ordered a cheeseburger and a chicken sandwich and got two cheeseburgers, David G. not only replaced the second burger with a chicken sandwich, he brought us a free order of fries and a $10 gift card. He also offered to make us a free milkshake to split and then brought us two of them! Wow! We essentially got $20 of complimentary food as a make-good on a minor mistake. We were floored and completely impressed. On top of all that, the food was outstanding. The "dip bar" includes an array of cool condiments -- the Sriracha mayo was amazing! -- and the marshmallow milkshakes (their specialty) are impossibly good. This may be my new favorite quick, cheap eat. Good Stuff, indeed!

I want to review this place twice- Once for the five star Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake and once for the 2 star fries!!! Despite all the YelpHype, the Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake was AS GOOD AS IT GETS. I drank a "small" so quickly that my friends commented, "That must have been good..." IT WAS. The fries were, as previous reviewers have stated, short and soggy. I couldn't get any crazy dippage action going on with the many flav-o-mayos because the fries were 2 inches long (maximum) and so soggy you had to dip your fingers with them to get any sauce traction or use a fork to eat them. On a happier note, the Village Fries' rosemary, thyme, sea salt seasoning was delicious and the fry bag remained herbally aromatic in my cubicle trash can for many hours after eating... The Prez Obama burger was tasty. It was a little greasy and soaked through the wrapping, but the burger itself was juicy and flavorful. The flavor of the horseradish mayo reminded me of the delicious dipping sauce paired with the Outback Steakhouse Blooming Onion. So, I was content with my greasy, saucy burger and chowed the whole thing. Yum. In conclusion, I will be back for more milkshakes and burgers. No fries.

Called in an order for two burgers and two orders of village fries. When I went to pick my order, the staff working the register seemed confused. Apparently, the manager hadn't put in the order at that point, so I had to wait while they made up the burgers. After a few minutes, my burgers were ready. I took dinner home. The burgers were OK. Although, I have definitely had better at their original location. The fries unfortunately suffered from first sitting under a heat lamp and then in a sealed paper bag for the seven-minute drive home. The fry servings were generous enough, however, that two people could have shared. We unnecessarily ordered their "regular" size (which seems equivalent to a "large"). Good Stuff generously offers several mayonnaise options for dipping your fries or topping your burger. Some taste better with the Village (thyme coated) fries than others, but the fun in having options is getting to try different combinations. I liked the Chipotle Mayo, the best. Without drinks, the two burgers and two fries topped $20.

I came in for dinner with a friend last night and it was PACKED! The staff is definitely still in training mode- both our orders were incorrect, we recieved the wrong burgers, but it was quickly rectified and we got extra fries. Too bad I'm not a fan of the fries, they have a strange texture and are overseasoned. The burger itself is delicious- I'm a sucker for fresh ingredients and a sesame seed bun! My favorite part of the meal was the toasted marshmallow shake, if it came in a gallon size cup I'd be all over it. Damn, I want one right now! Other issues we encountered: the soda dispensers weren't working correctly and the sauce bar needed some attention. I plan on going back for more and will update my review, hopefully with more stars next time around.

Good Stuff is a solid addition to the Crystal City area, and I'm happy they're here! I've been twice since they've opened, and tried different selections each time. First time was the day after the grand opening. They were packed, but attentive. We tried two burgers (decided to "cluck it" with one of them), the vidalia onion petals, a rootbeer float, and a cookies & cream shake. All tasty! Unfortunately the chicken sandwich came with something my boyfriend requested to do without, and he brought it to the counter. Without fuss, they made him a new one AND threw in a free order of fries. Sweet! We enjoyed the dipping bar, but I wish they had more selection (just variants of ketchup and mayo)- an aioli or something would be great! However, the Sriracha mayo is to die for! Would come back just for this! Second visit, tried some different burgers, fries with rosemary and thyme, salty caramel kiss shake and toasted marshmallow shake. I do wish the fries were crispier, but they are very tasty so that makes up for it. Shakes again were divine, though my caramel one had a bit too much caramel (yes, that's possible) and I could only drink about 1/4 of it before I felt sick. Toasted marshmallow was fantastic and will certainly order again. We'll be back! After reliving the taste of that toasted marshmallow shake, it may be tonight...

Good Stuff Eatery is a great addition to the neighborhood. The food tastes so fresh and the menu shows an impressive imagination on the part of whoever created it. Try the Shroom Burger...though they might spell it differently! We had a great, last-minute lunch there just the other day and very much enjoyed it!

A better burger place. I really like their veggie burger. It has a lot of flavor. There's nice portobello mushroom stuffed with yummy cheese. There's great flavoring in the sauce and the fresh bread is perfect holding vessel for this awesome burger. I loved the interior, great brand, good staff, food comes at reasonable time. The only thing I would care to change is amount of oil and salt on their fries. Great place in this neighborhood.

A solid addition to the dearth of burger spots in Crystal City! For the value this is easily the best burger in the area as the only other competition costs twice+ as much and, with the exception of Ted's, doesn't taste anywhere near as good. Burger Analysis- I had the Spike's Sunnyside and opted for the traditional accoutrements (lettuce, tomato, pickles) as those aren't included on their "original" burgers. The patty was cooked well, unfortunately, and didn't have all that much flavor on it's own. It was also pretty small and I was left with a sizeable chunk of bun as I finished. I tasted a hint of bacon in my last bite, at which point I asked myself "does this burger have bacon?" Yes it does! It was just nonexistent on my burger. The fried egg was just an egg white smushed beyond recognition, no gooey runniness sadly. In conclusion, it was a good burger for the price, and I would certainly go back. Certainly nothing to rave about though. In comparison to the big name fast casual offerings (ie Five Guys, In N Out, etc) it tasted fresher and wasn't nearly as greasy or salty, which is a big plus. Their burger creations are a breath of fresh air compared to the limited offerings at either of the aforementioned places. And I'm still shocked when I encounter a burger spot that doesn't offer either a fried egg or avocado as a topping (like, get with the times, people!), and thankfully Good Stuff gets it right.

Toasted Marshmallow Milk Shake. Believe the hype. Seriously, it is that good. I've been to the Capitol hill spot several times, but this was my first visit to the Crystal City location. Happy it exists too since it is much more convenient for me. I've had the shroom burger and the turkey burger, both are decent. But the best thing about this place are the shakes and the dipping sauces. I love dips and I love that this place offers multiple dip options.

Classic DC burger joint comes to NoVa! Was able to finally take the bf there during our brief stay in Crystal City. As with the one in the District, service moves at a glacial pace, but the food is too good to pass up. I always get the mushroom burger, and it's freaking amazing. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE all of the different "dips" for the fries. Old Bay Mayo...yes. I await the day when Spike opens one up near Columbia-way...

Got the Prez. Obama burger, first bite into it noticed it was a little pink, which was ok, a couple more bites into it kept getting pinker and pinker, was totally not done. Took back and handed to whom I am assuming was a manager and he apologized and had another one remade. For it still being close to their opening I chalked it up to some new kinks being worked out, no big deal. Till the new burger came out I had finished my fries and drink and really wasn't hungry for the replacement so took it home. Mistake. Popped it open when I got home and cut into it and this burger was pinker than the first one! Was so disappointed, which only turned to aggravation when I discovered that they don't list their phone number anywhere. The number on the receipt and the website goes to some automated message. So I filled out the contact information on their website, that was two days ago and haven't heard anything back. Definitely don't feel like customer service is high on their priority list. It's a shame, the one other time I ate at their DC location was an awesome experience.

So good! I went to the opening on 5/4. It was packed but super fun! Spike and his partners really pulled out all the stops...From super hot girls parking your car...to a great DJ, dance floor, and champagne! The food was pouring out...a few of us found a pretty good spot near the back where the food was coming from. We ate everything. I usually like a pretty standard burger ...Cheese, bacon, LTMO...but everything that came out was delish...I even enjoyed the fried mushroom burger! The fries are like my favorite kind of fries...throw some vinegar on them and your set! But they have these amazing dipping sauces...my favorite is the siracha mayo...but they do have old bay for us true Marylanders! I couldn't stop thinking about the burger...so I actually went back with my girlfriend a few days later for her birthday. I got the bacon farmhouse burger...JUICY! The roll is so soft and perfectly buttery sweet! My friend got the turkey burger...and i was pretty surprised at how flavorful and juicy it was...She loved it. We also got the fries of course! They were cut a bit small but are still seriously the best fries! We got the cookies n cream shake and the toasted marshmallow shake. So yum! Make sure you save room...we had a couple beers too...I was stuffed the entire next day! All in all, I love this place...prices are super fair for what you get! I say go and eat up!

I'm so happy that Good Stuff has expanded, even happier that they chose to put their second location in Arlington! These burgers are great, as are the fries and shakes. The Obama Burger, Turkey Burger, and Sunny's Burger are my favorites. The Old Bay Mayo is a must for dipping fries or burgers, and the Good Stuud sauce is fantastic as well. Try the toasted marshmallow shake. Good Stuff is on the expensive side but it is well worth it in my opinion.

I'm upping my review to 4 stars. Something keeps drawing me back to Good Stuff. I think it's the relaxed atmosphere and the freshness of the burger. I still think $12 is a bit much for burger, fries and drink -- but I'm a fan. I like the Blazin Barn and Farmhouse burgers. The turkey burger is good also.

  • Elaine S.

This was my first time at Good Stuff. I ordered the Smokehouse Burger and it was delicious. The burger was so moist and hand shaped...it wasn't perfectly round like a pre-made frozen. It was cooked perfectly and so juicy it oozed delicious goodness. I ordered the regular fries and they were ok... better dipped into the siracha sauce! oh man! I also ordered the onion rings, those were much better then the regular fries. The village fries were better. Next time I'll get a milkshake. The mood in the restaurant was fun and funky...the farmhouse tables were cool! i loved the 80's music but it was really loud. We could hardly hear the people in our group talking across the table.

Excellent burgers (if a bit on the greasy side) and even better shakes! If you want a good plain burger, go to Shake Shack, but if you want specialty burgers with toppings, sauces, and flavors, this place is the best. Their dip bar is great -- my favorites are the horseradish and Sriracha sauce for their fries!

While I won't ever go out of my way for Good Stuff Eatery, the burgers are good. I usually order Spike's Sunnyside or Good Stuff Melt and both are decent. I especially like Spike's Sunnyside because of the egg. I always need lots of napkins to get through the Sunnyside. Decent burgers but doesn't compare to Shake Shack, my preferred burger around here.

My husband and I came here for dinner - we love burgers, and we've heard so many good things about this place from friends. We got the Big Stuff Bacon Meltdown by 'Shunning the Bun' (bun-less) - this burger contained double patties of beef, bacon, double cheese, ruby tomato, onions, lettuce, pickles, and a side of their 'Good Stuff' sauce. I liked how they had the sauce in a little container, so you can control how much sauce you wanted. The beef itself was mighty tasty - very juicy (I asked for it well-done, and it was still slightly pink in the inside, but a crispy exterior on the outside); the veggies were great, and it was so flavorful. We also got a cup of Uncle D's Famous Chili (which came with cheddar sauce, green onions, sour cream, and a wrapped homemade corn bread muffin). This chili was sweeter than the usual, but I thought it was hearty. You basically order, then they give you a buzzer; you sit yourself down, and then you wait - your meal comes in a white paper bag with a tray. There are also different types of sauces for your burgers and/or fries. The burgers are kind of pricey - sort of like your 'gourmet burger' type of prices ($7-8). I liked that they had crushed ice for their soda beverages. Metered parking can be found in the area, free after 6pm and on Sundays. Give this place a try! +Big Stuff Bacon Meltdown +'Shunning the Bun' = bun-less +'Good Stuff' sauce +crushed ice for pop +metered parking around the area; free after 6PM on Sundays

Fabulous. Best Burger Place in DC hands down. AND they have great dipping sauces. My favorite is the Prez Obama Burger with srirahca sauce. A little on the expensive side, but a great treat.

The burgers are pretty good, they are usually cooked well and juicy. However, for the price I would expect a little higher quality. It's also quite greasy (like 5 guys level greasy). Now with that said, the saving grace of this restaurant are the milkshakes! The salted caramel milkshake is beyond words. I am also a huge fan of the Vietnamese iced coffee milkshake (nothing like sweetened condensed milk).

I've been here twice, as I work nearby. I'm compelled to write this after my visit today. I had the Prez. Obama and man, was it good! Perfectly cooked, with pink in the middle, tender and juicy. The onion marmalade and Roquefort is a blissful concoction. And of course, bacon on a burger is almost mandatory. Good Stuff's Applewood bacon tops off this delicious masterpiece. I try to eat healthy most days but let it be known, Good Stuff, I will be back.

Another day, another gourmet burger joint under my belt, and another bump in my cholesterol (and all for the sake of science, I swear it). I had been meaning to try Good Stuff Eatery for months, but Capital Hill was just too far away. Luckily I stumbled across their location in Crystal City, which I hadn't known about, and just in time for lunch no less. In my own personal list, I would put Good Stuff between Elevation Burger and Smashburger. The Patty: A small-ish single patty, not terribly thick, and not overly juicy. I wouldn't call it dry, but it certainly wasn't dripping grease all over my tie. The Bun: Nothing remarkable, it held up well and wasn't a distraction. The Toppings: The bacon was perfectly cooked (crispy enough to easily bite through, but not crumbly), and the cheese, bbq sauce, and onion were nicely proportioned to the bun and patty. Fries: Village fries were good, larger than Elevation Burger, but crispier than Five Guys, but as I was afraid they would, most of the thyme and rosemary fell off before they made it into my mouth. More props to Smashburger for the way their fries keep it on! The Shake: The Vietnamese Coffee was outstanding, thick and delicious! Overall: A good burger, if a touch expensive, and a great shake. I'll be back for lunch again next time I am in Crystal City, and next time I'll have to give the toasted marshmallow shake a shot...

I always wanted to eat here after watching the chef on Chopped? (or some other Food Network show, i forget). I finally was able to eat here when my friend took me there this weekend. I ordered the Obama burger and I was actually impressed on how good it was. The meat was seasoned well, very flavorful. Also got the Onion Petals which is coated in a liquid batter vs a dry breading, so yummy and crunchy. I tried some of my friend's rosemary fries with the mango sauce...I honestly would go back just for their dips. So damn good. Next time I want to try the Michelle burger, which is a turkey burger. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of their buns. Very soft and small, kind of like the Five Guys buns...so they get all soggy. I prefer mine bigger and harder (that's what she said).

they have a "lunchbag" special - burger, fries & a drink for $11 ($12 and some change). Had I NOT ordered the "lunchbag" special, I might have saved some pennies. This special, I'm guessing, is good for the specialty burgers. I ordered a REGULAR burger (no cheese) - the special comes with fries and a fountain drink. I will test this theory next time I go. The fries were EXCELLENT. My burger was just OK - I asked for a plain burger with onions - why did I get to my desk and have pickles, lettuce & tomatoes. My burger bun was soggy!!! YUCK! Shoulda found a five guys! lol

I had been hearing so many raves about the burgers and shakes, so I decided to try it. Hubby is addicted to the salted caramel shake. I don't like caramel, so that wasn't an option. I got the Good Stuff Melt with fries and a strawberry shake. The fries were good at first, but started to give me a nauseous feeling after a while. Maybe it was the sea salt. The burger just had too much stuff on it for me to get a real feel for what it tasted like. There were cheese and mushrooms everywhere. It wasn't bad, but not necessarily good either, and quite greasy. The shake was delish! Period. I am willing to give them another try, because I really do want to like them. Now that my beloved Rays is closed, I have to find a new spot for my semi-annual burger cravings.

The burgers are really well done, very tasty and flavorful. They have a ton of different sauces for dipping, my personal favorite being the old bay. Shakes are excellent, the coffee one is very delicious. There's a little pot shot at McDonald's on the wall that I found to be a bit humorous. The staff is a bit cold but other than that a very enjoyable spot.

Managed to get in for the soft opening, and the food is fantastic. We've been waiting for this place to open since it was announced, and we lucked out on our way home from the Crystal City Farmer's Market. The kids got chocolate milkshakes which were satisfyingly thick, creamy, and chocolaty (and loved seeing the ice cream made in the back of the shop to boot). We all ordered burgers - Colletti's Smokehouse had great BBQ flavour, with the crunch of the onion rings. The Applewood bacon is great - both on Colletti's and the Farmhouse Bacon Cheese (what the rest of the fam had). The kids loved the burgers. The handcut fries are good, but the Village fries (with fresh herbs and sea salt) were downright fantastic. We paired them with the mango mayo, and the old bay mayo. Its not an every-day indulgence, but we'll definitely be back. Another fantastic add to the Crystal City neighborhood.

List this under "places I did not need to know existed." I had an Obama burger (Gorgonzola, bacon, carmelized onions) and a kid's size toasted marshmallow shake. OMG. I was out of commission for the rest of the day. So good. Fries not necessary, but they looked good. And there were these fried onion things that looked like a fancy Bloomin' Onion, I will definitely be getting those next time. But yeah, it's good stuff.. Try it.

Great burgers, fries (I prefer regular over the rosemary and thyme seasoning) and interesting shakes. We got to try the new seasonal cranberry shake. It was berrylicious!!

Although never having visited the Capitol Hill location, I have only ever heard great things about it. With the grand opening here in Crystal City a few weeks ago, an errand filled Friday afternoon was the perfect time to stop in. As soon as you enter, the ambiance is so very pleasing. The open air from the doors and windows really add to the bright/freshness of the establishment. A heavy dose of creative GSE promotional items are the main décor source, and there is spacious seating both on the main floor, and on the raised portion towards the back of the eatery. The ordering process could use some tweaks, as it is very unclear where the line begins, and the "pick-up here / order here" signs of which we have come to take for granted at many establishments are no where to be seen. The staff was very nice in how they handled our duo, and a few others who were not lined up in the "right" place. The ordering is done from of a board behind the counter, and all of the offerings have a nice description, so you can avoid surprises. The wait was around 5-7 minutes for the food, which is standard for MTO casual burger offerings. The milkshakes come out at the same time as the food, which makes sense for the line, but maybe not so much for the patron. The thing you notice with the line (open kitchen), is the abundance of people back there (11 in our case). It's quite possible that everyone has a role, but it appears that people are bumping into each other. I went with the Spike's Sunnyside, which is essentially a bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg. The egg was cooked perfectly, and the bun was a nice fresh brioche. A solid burger (far from the worst, but not the best) where the freshness of the ingredients shines through. The gal taking the order did not ask how the burger should be cooked, so I'm to guess all burgers default to medium well to well done (much like Five Guys). I paired this with a Toasted Marshmallow shake, which upon the 1st taste, takes you back to a fall bonfire, which is a real credit to their tasting think-tank. The shake was a solid medium of thick, but not too thick. My lunch mate went with the Colletti's smokehouse which is a BBQ bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. He was pleased, and loved the bun even more than I. His uninspired ordering of a plain chocolate shake was satisfying. As many other Yelpers have mentioned, the fries are a disappointment. I would love to hear the logic from Chef Spike, as they really don't portray his food POV. They are very small, soggy, and have no real identity. The creative mayo dipping sauces (Old Bay, Mango, Chipotle) are wasted, as the fries really do no justice. This isn't to say burger places need to have fries, as there are so many other creative pairings out there. It's just if you're going to put something on your menu, do it right. If GSE was walking distance from my office, I would be a weekly patron. A solid burger, fries, and a drink for under $10 is perfect for my lunch budget. The 10 minute drive probably makes this a quarterly stop, but was overall very pleased with my first visit.

I had the pleasure of trying this place for the first time, over the weekend, with some friends. The owners were there as well; they were really friendly and gave us recommendations on what to order. Initially, I wanted to try the black and white milkshake, but when I saw all the various flavors, I just had to try the Vietnamese coffee milkshake. The flavor wasn't strong like regular Vietnamese iced coffee, but rather a more thick condense milk flavor milkshake sprinkled with coffee on top. I enjoyed it. I also ordered the Caesar salad wedge, which was made up of nice fresh iceberg lettuce. The portion was perfect and I definitely plan on visiting again. The restaurant itself, has a nice relaxing feel and there is plenty of outdoor seating when the weather is nice.

The fact that Bobby's Burger Palace (nice fat dry burgers, milky shakes, but pretty good fries)and Shake Shack (fantastic concretes, decent burgers, not so great fries) rates above Good Stuff is absurd. Good Stuff has hands down the best shakes in DC - and maybe the best shakes anywhere. I think what most people miss out on is that to make the fries and burgers even more amazing, a healthy dosing of their fantastic sauces. Siraccha and Old Bay sauces are phenomenal, and add a nice flavor to all the burgers, and the fries.

I only had fries and a vanilla shake. The shake was pretty good (tastes just like any other vanilla shake) but my fries were limp, cold and way too greasy.

Very delicious burgers and fries. Have tried a few different shakes and they are all very good. This is not the most healthy food in the world but I guess it doesn't hurt much to go there every now and then. :-)

  • Katie D.

Food was ok. They offer a bunless option, but the execution sucks. At 5 Guys, they wrap it in a few sturdy leaves of iceberg. GSE opted for 2 puny pieces of Romaine which instantly wilted and allowed my burger to start sliding out of my hands and all over the place. I ended up discarding the lettuce and salvaging whatever pieces I could. Not that impressed...flavor could definitely be better, as could preparation time.

Disappointing. I'd been wanting to try this for a while, after seeing raves about the Capitol Hill location. Burger was fine, but nothing special. It's priced higher than Ray's Hell Burger, but smaller and not nearly as tasty. Fries were a soggy mess. I don't like mayo, so the wide variety of mayos didn't do anything for me. Certainly, the staff seemed friendly and the restaurant was comfortable. But, we won't be back.

On paper, the name says it all--good stuff. When you take a look at the menu, it is all good stuff for sure. As for the actual food, well there leaves a lot more to be desired. The atmosphere at the CC location is real good for a restaurant in CC, as it is quite busy after work hours and you can see a pretty pumped up crowd. Real clean atmosphere, bright and modern, but not that much seating and it gets fairly cramped in there. As for the service, it's alright, let's just leave it at that, would still say Chick-Fil-A next door has the most friendly staff. As for the food, received the vanilla shake on this occasion as well as Spike's Sunnyside. The shakes are around 5-6 bucks depending on the flavor, which is about a dollar or two less than a burger here. I would say the shake leaves a lot more to be desired. The vanilla shake was thick, but not as thick or tasty as the shakes you can get next door at Chick-Fil-A for about half the price ($3-4). Shake here had limited drinkability, partially due to straw selection, but also had a malty aftertaste that I would say is preference driven as to whether you like that or not. As for the burger, I would say, some good, some not so good parts. The price and quality I would say are better than BGR burger. For the sunnyside, the egg and burger meat were terrific. The meat is soft, tender, and juicy. The bacon left much more to be desired, plus they do not put enough of it in the burger at that price point. The bun stays dry and the texture is great, unlike the wet mess you get at BGR. All in all, solid diversification in CC.

Fun with the kids on a trip to D.C. Two of our three orders were missing an item which was cheerfully supplied when we asked - beware if you're doing takeout. The burgers were delicious. Loved iceberg wedge. Onion petals awesome. Didn't love the seasoning on the fries, but without that they were delish. Enjoyed the sauce bar. Noisy - so great for family, not so good for a date.

I had a business trip in DC and was looking forward to stopping in and trying out some of Spikes creations. I had the Coletti Burger a snack size village fry and the toasted marshmellow shake. What a huge letdown... the hamburger was way overcooked and had no flavor. The village fry was so greasy they were unedible and coated in tons of rosemary... it seemed like the lid fell off while they were being seasoned and someone could not be bothered to make a fresh batch of fries. The only highlight was the toasted marshmellow milkshake which others have stated is pretty good. Do yourself a favor and skip the meal and just get a shake.

Been here a few more times since I first reviewed. Still stuck at 3 stars. Fries seem to have improved...more consistency in cooking and slicing. I was also informed by another yelper that if you request a burger cooked to order they will do so. Last two times I was there, I requested my burger cooked medium rare, and it came out the standard well done. Big disappointment there. Place is decent, just wish the burgers didn't leave me feeling so underwhelmed.

Service was friendly, nice ambiance, food was priced OK, $25 for myself and my wife. Sauce selection was nice, more than the average comparing Burger joint, burgers were about average size, nothing impressive , fries a bit greasy but altogether a decent dining experience.

A friend and I decided to try Good Stuff Eatery Friday night the 18th May. I read about the Capitol Hill restaurant and saw Chef Spike on an episode or two of Top Chef and since I live in the neighborhood I was excited for something new. My friend wanted me to write a review because my burger had a ticket time of over 21 minutes (just one burger) and Chef Spike was there and actually asked me what was wrong when I went up to the counter, got on the line and rushed to make my burger and then gave me a 20 dollar bill. I am easily won over by money and as I walked back to my seat was already preparing the positive review in my head but then I opened my bag of food: When I sat down my fried egg wasn't cooked the white part was all runny and it sort of made me queasy. My burger was medium rare which is how I asked for it but was told that I couldn't get it prepared that way. I asked for BBQ sauce on it and it came with none. The fries were just bad. It also took an extremely long time to give my order to the cashier, I thought it was because she was making sure that she got everything correct but now I know it's because she was incompetent. I paid 12 bucks for a burger and small fries. I'm not impressed but will give it another try on a different day of the week because of the 20 bucks. Oh they do have beer which is a plus for some.

I'd been here once before and it was decent, but last night I really had a hankering for a nice burger so I thought I'd try this place again. The wait isn't too long for your food, we found a table quickly, and our orders were nicely prepared. That's all fine and dandy. The burger was great, well proportioned, but with one side-note - it was super salty. (I got the big bacon one.) Super salty. After about 4/5'ths of the way through, I couldn't handle it. The fries were good, I like the size and cut, I got the Village ones, so rosemary and thyme. I think they could do a better job packaging or serving the fries - they were balled up and smushed into a paper baggie. This means that immediately after frying them, if they're all smushed in there, they're in essence steaming each other, which makes them wetter and mushier than I prefer. Oh well. This place is cool, but based on the experience for the price ($19 for beer/burger/fries!), I won't be back unless one of my friends really wants to go.

I was excited to see that Good Stuff opened in Crystal City, as it has definitely been on my DC "bucket list". I got the cheeseburger, fries and a Vietnamese Coffee shake. The burger was good- not as good as Shake Shack, but delicious. I also really liked the fries, with the chipotle mayo. I know some others call the fries oily and limp, but I got some nice long ones that were just delicious. The shake, however could leave something to be desired, and I agree it wasn't that cold, and the clumps of ice cream (whipped cream? Marshmallow?) were confusing. I was also confused by the bags that they serve telling you to "recycle" even though I 1) ate there hence not needing a bag and 2) did not see a place to recycle. So, for a place claiming to be 'good stuff,' you'd think they could cut down on the waste a bit.

I've heard good things about the Capitol Hill location and was excited to try the Crystal City one as I live nearby. After eating there, I can say I wasn't that impressed. I might chalk that up to it just opening, but I was very underwhelmed by the food. I ordered the Colletti's Steakhouse Burger and fries. The burger had good flavor and was cooked medium, but I got the impression that it was pre-cooked as there was absolutely no juice coming out of the meat. It seemed like the burger might have been cooked earlier and all of the juice ran out before it was heated back up on the grill for my order. *Edited to add that they do in fact pre-cook their burgers. Here's a very informative blog post on the subject: aht.seriouseats.com/arch… I don't know how a place can say that they put an emphasis on freshness when they're pre-cooking burgers. The fries are easily the worst fries I have ever had. They are so small that you can't even hold them in your fingers to dip them in ketchup or the other dips they have available. I had to use a fork to eat the fries. Also, the fries are not crispy at all and look/taste like they are almost burnt. I'll probably give this place another try after a few months so it can work out the kinks, but if I want another burger until then I'll just hit up a Five Guys as it is way better than what I had at the Crystal City Good Stuff Eatery.

Wish I can give 3.5, but the downgrade to 3 rather than 4 is due to their fries. The burger was good, I got the good eatery melt or something melt, it was a 4. It was not too greasy, well cooked, and the special sauce they use (mixed vinegar, mayo, ketchup) was good as well. I am a ketchup fanatic, so I added more. I didn't like the fact that it doesn't come with lettuce, or tomatoes. Did I get charged for them? Oreo milkshake was good, really creamy n thick. I still prefer chick fil a's!!! Lets see....fries were not all that, too much salt!!! I had to shake some salt off. For a good, just as tasty but less expensive burger ($15)with fries n drink, I'd pay a trip to 5 guys, or UNOs burgers!!!

Love the burgers, they are very juicy and flavorful. The salads are yummy too and you can get a burger on top! Who knew? I stick with the chicken, but I'm intrigued by the salad topped with a burger. The turkey burger is quite tasty and l'm not typically into burger substitutes. My only complaint about Good Stuff is their fries. They should take a trip over to five guys for a tutorial on how to make good fries. Most of the times I have had them they have been soggy and limp.

this location i think is nicer than the DC location, but food is the same. a bit over priced for burgers. cooked well with creative flavors. this time we tried colletti's smokehouse and blazin' barn with sweet potato fries and the Vietnamese coffee shake. loved the shake. but if you dont like coffee grinds you will hate it. i definitely liked the collettis better than blazin but the prez obama was def my fav from when i went in DC.

Please note that this review is solely based on the milkshakes + customer service, although I certainly don't plan to go back and try their burgers. I was really excited to try the milkshakes here, having heard they were amazing. It wasn't very busy when my sister and I went in - maybe three people ahead of us at the register. After ordering shakes, we went off to the side and waited. And waited. And waited. The woman who was supposed to be making the shakes made one, and then stood there. And then rinsed off a dish. And then stood there. And then got out her phone and started texting. Then she stood around some more. I overheard her tell the person at the register that she was 'waiting' for more ice cream to be brought out. I'm not sure what prevented her from walking to the back and getting it herself in the first place, but finally, after rinsing off the same dish she'd rinsed before, and standing around some more, she went to the back. I think she noticed me watching her, because she stopped and explained that she had to go get more ice cream. When the shakes FINALLY came out, at minimum twenty minutes after we ordered them, each cup had an inch and a half of room at the top, not including the domed lid. When we asked for extra whipped cream to make up for the space, pointing out that not only had we waited an absurd amount of time for these shakes, but now the cups weren't even full, another employee told me that was the way they did it because they didn't want the cups to be overfilled. I. What?! Even if that made sense, they are in NO danger of overfilling those cups, believe me. And yes, I get that it's mostly a psychological thing, but if I pay $6 for a milkshake, I expect the cup to look like I'm getting what I paid for. The woman who made the milkshakes begrudgingly gave us more whipped cream. The other employee, who I assume was a supervisor/manager, did apologize for the wait and the fact that we weren't happy. He also offered us a refund. He is the sole reason this review has two stars, because he actually handled my complaints well and tried to make up for my unhappiness/the incompetence of his employee. After all that, the milkshakes were some of the worst I've ever had. I mean, they were so bad that I actually wished I'd gone to McDonald's instead, and their milkshakes aren't good either. I don't know what Good Stuff's "ice cream" is made of, but it tastes exactly like non-dairy creamer. You can have all the cool flavors you want, but why would you start with a base that tastes this horrifying? The consistency was all wrong too. Also, their whipped cream, which I hoped would be the redeeming aspect, is over-whipped to the point that it's basically sweet butter. I normally over-whip cream just slightly, so I'm not opposed to the idea, but this was so overdone that it was disgusting, at least when paired with an equally disgusting milkshake. The burgers/fries smelled and looked good while I was waiting, but with the horror of that overpriced milkshake behind me, I could never bring myself to go back here.

The Colletti's Smokehouse burger I got was great; the fried onion rings was a really nice touch. I wanted to try both fries and the milk shake, so I got the $6.25 addition for snack fries and small shake. The cookies and cream shake was incredibly thick.

The flavors of the shakes are GREAT! They make the ice cream/custard in house. However, this leads to an ultra-thick shake which isn't for everyone. I have not had any burgers yet but I have had the greek salad several times and think that its pretty darn good. I go to Good Stuff because I hate the overly-processed chicken all the other to-go restaurants in Crystal City throw on their food. Everyone is always friendly. Little bit pricey, but it was what I expected. I would recommend the marshmallow shake and the current seasonal shake: lemon merengue. One thing that kind of annoyed me was they claim "1% of your total bill is donated to plant a tree a day and sustain various environmental efforts." At the bottom of my bill this amount was added to my subtotal. So 1% was not donated, an additional 1% was ADDED to be donated. Their website does not list the various environmental efforts it supports besides the organization that plants trees. I get that a business has to be a business, but a little more transparency would be greatly appreciated.

We go here for one menu item and one menu item only... The Prez O burger. I have tried other menu items and they have never seemed to match up. The fries have never struck me as something I find myself wanting to order when I go back to visit. If you want a side with your burger, you should absolutely give the onion petals a shot. The milkshakes are over the top rich and too sweet to actually enjoy. No matter when you go, you should always anticipate a line.

Food 3 of 5 stars: The burgers were OK, nothing special. Boyfriend says he likes Five Guys better. Fries were not that great, brown and soggy, but the seasoning was good. Good dipping sauces, but all mayonaise based. The milkshakes were easily the star; the salty caramel and toasted marshmallow are awesome. Service 1 of 5 stars: Just terrible. Our first visit was pretty busy (opening weekend), we waited about 5-10 minutes to order, no biggie. Then we waited 20-30 to get our food. You can't be "fast casual" and take 30 minutes to get food out. We went again the next evening despite our first experience just to grab milkshakes and take them home, figuring that would be quick, boy were we wrong. It only took a few minutes to get our order in, but then we waited nearly 30 minutes again, just for milkshakes! To make it worse, we saw them sitting on the counter, and figured they were ours, but the girl calling orders seemed to only be paying attention to burger orders and never buzzed us. She even walked away a few times to do who knows what. Finally we went up and asked, and in fact they were ours. Ridiculous. 30 minutes for a milkshake? They aren't THAT good. I should also mention the price. We got two burgers, one regular fry to share, and two milkshakes. Our order was $30, seemed a bit pricey to us for a fast casual style restaurant. Especially for such bad service, thank goodness we didn't have to tip. Average of 2 of 5 stars. We're hoping that these issues are opening weekend kinks and inexperience on the staff's part. Hopefully it improves. Am willing to try it again in a few months to see if there is any improvement, if only because there's really no burger competition in the area.

We weren't looking for a perfect burger, just a good burger. And what attracted us to good stuff eatery was the top chef reputation. However, it was the first time at any burger place - even fast food that I've ever thrown out all of the hand cut fries and 'wedge salad' that wasn't a wedge salad as completely indelible. $39 dollars bought two burgers that were so small dry and salty that we only ate the patties. We were embarrassed for spike that he would lend his name to such a bad product. The staff could have cared less about the food they were preparing as the laughed and joked as customers stood around. The fries were dripping in grease and soggy. I was expecting fries better than five guys. The salad was covered in two types of onion and some creamy dressing. It was not an iceberg wedge but chopped green leaf ad limp. Further there were soggy deep fried battered onion things on top adding more grease and salt to the salad. Do yourself a favor and eat anywhere but Good Stuff Eatery.

The name of this place is true. It's good stuff, but not great stuff. The Metro station is super close to here. It's about four blocks. We got here before opening (we were meeting friends) and and were the first customers, but it picked up fast and by 11:30 the line was out the door. I was expecting a sit down place (I didn't check on here beforehand) but you order at a counter and buzzed to get your food. The prices are high for a place like this, honestly. I ordered the smokehouse burger. It had the onion bites, bacon, BBQ sauce, and cheese. When I opened the wrapper, it looked very small. However, it was so filling. It was so delicious. Definitely the best burger I've had. I really loved the dipping bar. The OLD BAY sauce was the best. The fries were okay. They were limp and small. They were better than Wendy's or McDonald's, but not as good as Five Guys (my favorite). The milkshakes were a standout. The red velvet was delicious. It was so thick and creamy, and there was a generous spread of hot fudge on the sides of the cup. Not to mention that the mini milkshake is more than enough. If this place was cheaper, it would have earned five stars. However, at $8 a burger, $6.45 to add on a small fires and shake and $60 for a party of five, this place is way to expensive for fast food.

Most stores are closed at 8pm on Saturday in Crystal City, but the restaurants are open- Good Stuff Eatery being one of them. Good Stuff reflects and defines the name in terms of the quality of burgers, fries, and shakes. Not Shake Shack or In-and-Out quality, but Good Stuff quality. I ordered the Smokehouse Bacon burger with small Village Fries and an Oreo Shake. This is not a sitdown restaurant with waiter server rather order, sit and eat, and clean up yourself, no tip necessary. There is plenty of seating available. The food came out in a to-go bag and after opening the contents I was quite disappointed in the size of the burger, not realizing the bulk of the meat patty. It's a fat piece of meat cooked into a ball more than a patty. No complaints once I took a bite into the meatball with crispy bacon and sizzled onions. The fries, drizzled in generous layers of rosemary, tasted foresty and refreshing unlike anything I have ever tasted. Who would have thought fries could be refreshing? You can add another layer of refreshment by dipping the fries in the Oreo Shake. Take it one step further and dip the bacon burger inside the shake to extract the essense of a bacon shake. 3 Minutes and 15 napkins later the burger was demolished. Good stuff.

UPDATE: The owner contacted me within a day after writing my initial review. He took the time to address my specific concerns/complaints and was sincerely apologetic for the situation that transpired. He recognized the oversight and identified the opportunity for them to refine and improve their process. The quick response showed they are dedicated to providing outstanding service to their customers. I would definitely go back there again when in town to give them another shot.

The milkshakes drew us in. My daughter had a grilled cheese which was a cheddar sandwich grilled on a bun. Tried their fries. Oh my good. Love the speciality sauces like the chipotle. She got the red velvet milkshake and it was super thick. She drank almost all of the regular size but couldn't finish a fourth of it. Maybe try the mini next time. Prices are okay but expensive for one shake. I don't eat red meat so this is not my go to for meal establishment. Try offer chicken. Anyhow glad we tried it.

YOU NEED THE PREZ OBAMA BURGER IN YOUR LIFE! An "outside-of-the-box" burger like my "outside-of-the-box-thinking" President! Both have turned out to be GOOD THINGS! Applewood bacon, onion marmalade, Roquefort cheese and horseradish mayo...OHHHH YEAHHH! Wait, there's more! The snack size of Spike's Village fries (topped with thyme, rosemary and sea salt). Totally different twist.. I liked it! Oh yeahhhhhh...a little pricy; but, not ridiculous.

Loved this place! I was going to get some chich fil a but saw this and I'm glad I stopped by. Their burgers were awesome!! I got the one with egg and husband got the one with mushroom. Very soft and juicy and cooked perfectly. Their rosemary fries were unexpectedly good too! And their toasted marshmallow milkshake was to die for! Can't wait to try other flavors!!

On a work trip from out of town, I was stuck in Crystal City surrounded by the likes of Noodles & Company and Cosi. Where could I go to get something that I missed since moving to the Pacific NW last year? Then I spied Good Stuff Eatery and We The Pizza - yesss, Spike's places only found in the metro DC area! It was a tough call, but since the pizza is surprisingly fabulous in the PNW, I decided to go for a burger. I wish I could say the Bacon Farmhouse burger I had was as transcendingly good as the one I'd experienced before at the Capitol Hill location. Unfortunately, the bread was hard, the burger was overcooked (no juiciness) and toppings unevenly distributed. It was still a fine burger, but nothing about it made me label it the best burger in DC (as I had last time I had a Good Stuff Eatery burger). There was no line when I went, so rushing for a crowd was not even an excuse. I still loved the Sriracha mayo and the fries were pretty good despite looking burnt. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Good Stuff to others, and I'm just hoping the Crystal City location was having an off day.

I was in town for work and there really isn't a whole lot around the area that isn't a bit pricey and not just grab a quick bite. Good Stuff is A-OK. The line moves fairly fast and they have a decent selection of options. I ordered the Obama burger and fries. Both were pretty good, the fries were a bit on the soggy side which was disappointing, I like a crispy fry. The burger was pretty good, not magnificent but for a fast food type burger it was pretty decent. I enjoyed it more than say a 5 guys burger. Service was friendly, they even reprinted my receipt for me after I accidentally threw it away. I do like the array of dipping sauces to choose from that you pour yourself. Overall, decent burger at a decent price point. Quick and easy.

Burger was delicious . Fries were great. Love the dipping aauce selection. Fun music and nice atmosphere. Price is right! Honestly would give it a 5 star its a great burger place, except burgers are very small. 4.5?

Ok, the milkshakes are pretty fantastic, but the burgers are just giant balls of grease. Seriously these must be the greasiest burgers around. Last time I went, my pregnant self was craving the portobello burger (known as the 'shroom) and was super disappointed to see that it's "coating of panko crumbs" was really code for "crazy deep fried with insane amounts of breading". It was waaaaay too much for me to handle, and even though I couldn't finish it all, I ended up throwing it all up later. I know not to expect "healthy" options at a burger joint, but for the one burger that should've/could've been less greasy, this was a major fail. I'm not sure why everyone loves the fries. To me (and my husband), they just seem really limp and dull. Seating is ample and service is so-so in terms of speediness.

Really liked this place. Played volleyball down the road and went with a few people for food afterwards down the road. I got the Michelle Melt- turkey burger with caramelized onions, cheese, veggies, mayo. It was delicious! I also liked that I could enjoy a beer with my meal! Would definitely go again!!

The shakes! Oh, the shakes!! Various tasty flavors that are sure to satisfy any craving. Try out their shake of the month. They will not disappoint!

Spike Mendelson's burger joint is not bad. The prices are reasonable and the burger was actually quite juicy. If I could I would give it 3.5 stars. It's not a showy place and perfect stop for lunch or to grab a quick bite before a movie. The fries were a little too greasy for me which was disappointing. But the Michele Obama burger did not disappoint. It was juicy good finger licking double napkin mouthful.

I can't get enough of this place! The regular fries, Obama burger, sriracha mayo & friendly service never disappoint!! Love the creative dipping sauces & burgers. Never had a bad one & I've been at least 25 times.

I made a quick stop at the Good Stuff Eatery on Crystal Drive. I had been wanting to try the place, being a top chef fan and see just how good the burgers are. I wish I didn't have dinner reservations at Volt later because I was trying not to have too much to eat. I ended up deciding on the Obama burger, and it was a tender and juicy burger, but in hindsight I wish I would have gotten the Spike's Sunnyside. Then again, a burger with a fired egg would have likely been much to messy to eat while driving. I loved that the burger was not over powered by the blue cheese, and you could really taste the sweetness of the onions and the salty smoky flavor of the bacon. Somewhere along the lines the horseradish mayo gets completely lost. The fries were nothing to really write home about they were good and tasted and I definitely appreciated their freshness. They also had several dipping sauces to choose from. The Old Bay one was a little strange, but I get it being in the Maryland area, and I kind of like Old Bay Seasoning. I don't think the average person would go for it but it was quite tasty to me. The sriracha sauce sauce was tasty and approachable without being too spicy. The mango sauce was sweet and interesting and something that I wouldn't combine with just about anything save chicken or fish. I wish I could have tried some of the shakes they sounded awesome.

*3.5 stars* For reference, I'm a Fuddruckers' fan. Don't care too much for Five Guys. The Michelle Melt Turkey Burger and 'Shroom Burger are really good. The Michelle Melt has caramelized onions and swiss cheese, and the turkey patty is juicy and substantial. I didn't miss the beef at all. The 'Shroom Burger is surprisingly delicious. It's a big portobello mushroom stuffed with muenster and cheddar cheese, breaded in panko crumbs, and flash fried. I love the cheese combo - the muenster mellows out the cheddar and there's so much of it that it oozes everywhere. Yum! The hand cut fries are good but nothing to rave about. The Toasted Marshmallow Shake is awesome and topped with real toasted marshmallows! The Mini Moo is a perfect size after a burger and fries. I'd still pick Fuddruckers over Good Stuff because I like the simplicity of Fuddruckers' burgers and fries. But this place isn't bad at all and a top lunch spot in Crystal City if you're not watching your weight!

Excellent burger spot with lots of different options. I ordered one the Good Stuff melt, hold the mushrooms, garlic parm fries, and a toasted marshmallow shake. It was a delicious meal - burger meat itself was average and a bit over done, but the cheese and sauce made it moist and flavorful. Fries were great, but not necessary to get the garlic parm when there were so many amazing dips - plain fries would have been just as good. Try all the dips to find your favorite. The shake was honestly a highlight. I am not a big dessert person, I tend to enjoy savory delights more, but this was just insane. There was actual melted marshmallow in it. I've never had anything like it.

Chef Spike really got the burger down! Its a smaller burger, so those peeps that can eat a 4x4 at in and out will be dissapointed. It's a fancier burger than any old burger joint but the ambiance is totally casual. Order at cashier and pick it up when your number is called. I got the turkey melt and my co-worker got the Obama melt (after our prez). Both had yummy cheese, we halfed each others so we can try. Mine had avacado and grilled onions, hers had some old bay seasoning on the patty and a fried onion ring on duch wheat bread. THe sauce bar was fun. There were 5 sauces to choose from and i pumped some of each on my tray so we can try them all with our fries. This is what i remember, sriracha/mayo blend, old bay/mayo blend, special/secret sauce (tastes like 1000 island), bbq, and a few more. This place would do well in California :)

Stumbled upon this place while walking along for dinner somewhere else. We got a couple of shakes for dessert and they were truly excellent, among the best I've had anywhere. Service was quick. It will be hard not to want to come back here every night

Best burgers in DC. My wife is hamburger freak. She craves them and we go eating burgers at least once a week. Good Stuff is my favorite over 5 guys, In and Out, Bobby's Burger Palace, and the other one's I can't remember the name of right now. Why? Cause the burgers are big, but not like Ray's where the bottom bun gets too soggy and you need to ask for a new bottom bun (never works either). Solid bacon- it's crispy and tasty Amazing Shakes- thick and make you feel sick afterwards...in a good way Decor- Lots of TV's bright and open ceiling It's usually busy but for good reason. Pick me one up.

The Prez Obama Burger is seriously good. Juicy and not overcooked (a little pink is good). My only complaint is that the music inside is entirely too loud. I never, ever complain about the volume, but I had to sit outside to bear it. On the bright side, the song selection was excellent!

First, a clarification: TWO STARS for the food and ZERO/ ONE STAR for the most ridiculous tax imposed only by Spike called "enviro charge." 2. The food: the burgers are OK, but the french fries are limp and Luke warm. The onion rings are way too greasy and lack crunch. So what is a merely average burger when accompanied by limp fries or greasy rings? Two stars in my opinion. Also, the "home spun" milkshakes taste like chemical additives. Yucky. 3. The "enviro charge" tax. Say Spike, you planning on running for political office any time soon? Until you do - and win (my advice is not to take the french fry platform until you work it out) - do not impose your fantasy tax on my world. I Googled "enviro charge" (I call it "tax" because the charge is based on the amount of the bill, just like... Tax) and guess whose name came up? YOURS! You had the curtesy to respond in the interview and explained, in part, "We do a lot of green stuff in the company and it cost us a pretty penny. The environment tax comes out to a couple of pennies on your bill and we will always happily refund if you want." Well, Spike, bully for you for thinking you're so green. But do you think loading every single order- eating in house as well as take out - in a paper bag is green? Not only do you put the in house orders in a paper bag, you put them on a paper lined tray. My salad (again, eaten in-house) was in a disposable plastic bowl/lid. The utensils are plastic. AND NO RECYCLE BINS. Not so green now, are you? You wrote that the customer could ask to be refunded the "couple of pennies" if s/he wanted. Why should I have to opt out of your personal financial scheme instead of being asked if I choose to opt in? Why don't you have your register people ask each customer "would you like us to add an additional 1% "enviro charge" to your bill?" I suspect it's because you won't make as much money to pay for that pricey environmentally safe table cleaner. And do you get any tax write offs for your seemingly noble efforts? If so, when will that be given back to me? The only other consideration is that you somehow think that by advertising "enviro charge" that your customers have such achingly low self esteem (or are so stupid) that they count on you for misleading them to think that they are somehow saving planet Earth by giving you "a few extra pennies". Nice gig, bad food. One star.

Great Burgers, and Onion rings are the best. Negative is the workers are young and the tunes were rock in loud, so don't go here to catch up!

Burgers are decent, but very small considering the prices. They're not strongly seasoned, but all the better for the tons of creatively flavored mayos they have available (sriracha, old bay, mango, chipotle etc etc). Shakes are pretty good. I keep ordering the toasted marshmallow, hoping it'll taste more like 'toasted' and less like 'marshmallow' but it ends up like the powdery coating on raw marshmallows. Had better luck with the salted caramel, which is appropriately generous with the caramel and appropriately subtle with the salted. Would otherwise be rated higher if not for the pretty high prices and small portions.

First Impression: Nice, clean, bright with good selection. Plenty of in/outside seating. Average burger is about $7 and your fries + drink is between $4.25 and $6.25. Food: A major upgrade from Five Guys. The burgers have full flavors, but doesn't leave you feeling like you will have a heart attack. Service: Good, but could use a little improvement from employees. The male cashier was awesome and friendly, but one of the female cashier needs a caffeine shot. I only asked her simple question about a drink. She did answer it, but it looked like it she could care less and didn't want to be there. The least you can do is just fake it. Verdict: Would I come back? Definitely! Beware the combo kind of hits the pocket a little deep ($15 for Burger, Fries, and milkshake). However, I am paying for quality. I would recommend people to eat here.

I was taken to here by my friend for lunch during a week day. Street parking was a challenge and we ended up parking in a garage. I think this strip of restaurants are meant for people who work nearby and just walk over for lunch. Luckily, I live right across the street and I took my boyfriend here one evening after we both got home from work. They have many varieties of burger. I am usually not a big burger fan but I was impressed by good stuff. The buns were not super greasy and nasty and the meat was not super oily but get flavorful and I appreciate the thickness as well. I will not say much about their fries but my most favorite thing to order is always the marshmellow milkshake!!! It might sound weird but it tastes delicious!!! I've been here three times and I always ordered one. I should try another flavor on my next visit. This place has many large tvs so it gets very busy here in the evening too.

The toasted marshmallow shake is hands down the best milkshake I have ever had. Burgers and fries are yummy and I could drink the mango mayo. Cashiers are always friendly. Highly recommend.

I'm honestly not huge into hamburgers, but I kept hearing about this place so I figured I'd give it a whirl. Definitely glad I did. There was a long line (a good sign) and it gave my girlfriend and me ample time to explore the menu. I went with the Spike's Sunny Side Up burger. Divine. Cooked perfectly, wrapped neatly in wax paper and made with top-notch ingredients. My girlfriend had the turkey burger and seemed to enjoy it. I declined to try it because...ew.. health food. We also split some village fries (delicious) and a toasted marshmellow shake. The shake was thick, but not so thick that you couldn't access it with a straw. There was some thick, homemade whipped-cream-like substance on top and it really set this shake apart from the rest. Highly recommend you try the mango mayo and the old bay mayo as well. Definitely a place I'll be checking out again.

I loved this place. The service is good and the burgers are well seasoned and with lots of fresh toppings. The milkshakes ate thick and creamy. The fries while a little greasy were still good once I wiped them off with a napkin. The food was served hot and fresh both times I went this week. Best burger in Arlington.

Decided to finally try this place after passing the one in Georgetown several times. I did not realize how close the one in Crystal city is! I had a wedge salad with apples, red onions with some other things on it, and a chocolate shake. My boyfriend had the cheeseburger with the fried egg, fries and a marshmallow shake. The salad is suppose to come with corn bread which they forgot but I didn't mind because I probably would not have eaten it. We really enjoyed everything. The salad was cold and fresh, the fries were homemade along with several dipping sauces to choose from. I had a bite of his burger and I loved it. I would definitely order it myself. I will be going back! Perfect place for a quick lunch, pick up dinner or for a hangover!

I keep it simple and stick to a basic cheeseburger here. I tried a turkey burger once at their Capitol Hill location and was so turned off by it I vowed never to stray. I've been to the Crystal City location 3-4 times now and have always enjoyed my burger, which I find to be better than BGR or even Ray's. When I can't resist (which is pretty much every time I visit), I add a small village fry (love all the dipping sauces! particularly the horseradish and sriracha and mango mayos) and a small toasted marshmallow milkshake. The small is big enough, too much bigger would just be too much! One of my go-to places on the Crystal Drive strip...

Who named this place? I went to Good Stuff on the recommendation of an ex, which probably should have been my red flag regarding this place. I even went twice to make sure I didn't go on an off day. The first time I went, I got a toasted marshmallow milkshake and fries. The milkshake had a strange flavor and the fries were insanely oily and limp. The second time wasn't much better. The burger was boring. I asked for a brioche bun, but it clearly did not resemble brioche. I also tried the village fries, which were covered in rosemary and were limp. I don't quite get the hype.

Continuing our hunt for the best burger in DC, Good Stuff Eatery just didn't stand up to some of the others we have had. The fries reminded me of Five Guys (and I'm not a fan of their fries). The burger was good and there were several choices of ways to have it made but it seemed a little plain to me. I'd also skip their Good Stuff beer. It was a plain beer with little flavor (a la Miller Light). Theme of the restaurant and staff were positives though. I wanted to be more impressed with them and I'll give it another shot but for now I have to say there are better burgers to be had in the DC area.

I've been here twice. I love it. The atmosphere is usually loud and crowded which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. The onion "rings" were really greasy. They tasted good but I won't order them again. The village fries were awesome. The rosemary is a nice touch and kinda refreshing to eat a different kind of fry. The sauces are interesting. I also try three different kinds when I go. The burgers are also a little greasy but not overwhelming. I can handle some grease just not when there's so much it drips. The burgers are tasty. It's making me hungry thinking about it. I got American & bacon on a beef burger and it was a delicious classic. Go to Good Stuff.

I want to marry this place. If not marry, be married IN it. I want to be part owner here. I was them to cater my funeral. THAT is how much I love this place. Their french fries? Rosemary, thyme, sea salt. Yes, seriously. The options for burger sauces include Siratcha (sp?) mayo (I refused to describe this divine sauce to you, as it is impossible), Old Bay mayo, Chiptole mayo, and then your typical ketchup and mustard. My choice: the Vegetarians Are People Too Shroom Burger. Imagine, if you will, a large falafel. That is the outside of the burger's "patty." Now, inside. . . INSIDE is warm, sliced mushrooms and spinach. It's like a pocket of warm goodness. Never EVER has a restaurant moved me so as this one did. I didn't even know it was possible to love a food like this! Is it? Am I living in a dream? A fantasy? An alternate reality? NO. This place is real. Go here. Now. I am not from Virginia, I was only visiting. BUT I'm sure that IF I had tried their milkshakes. . . I would have never left. Ever.

I'm a big fan of the good stuff melt. A delicious cheese burger with lots of mushrooms and caramelized onions. While the burgers are good, the milkshakes are more notable - I highly recommend the very berry!

Recently, burgers have started to grow on me. So I finally made it out to GSE to see whether I would fall on the "awesome burgers" or "overhyped" side of the coin. I had the Good Stuff Melt, MM had the Spike's Sunnyside; we shared the Spike's Village Fries and the toasted marshmallow shake. First of all, if you're going to get the fries, get the regular ones. At least you may be able to get over the sogginess of the fries by immersing them in the really good sriracha mayo dip. The village fries were way too limp to enjoy on their own, and the seasoning made it difficult to taste the dips that may have saved them. My Good Stuff Melt was greasy, which is probably better than a burger being too dry. But there was a bit of messiness going on as the mountain of cheese struggled to maintain its allegiance to the wrapping paper and the rest of the burger followed my hands to my mouth. You would think the more cheese the better--in this case I could have probably done with one less slice. While I thought the Sunnyside didn't taste much different from any other burger-with-an-egg that I've tasted, MM seemed to thoroughly enjoy his breakfast burger. On the other hand, he was disappointed with the shake that he was so excited about after having read about it in the latest edition of the Washingtonian (too sweet?). I really liked that it actually did taste like toasted marshmallow--that is, before I actually ate the toasted marshmallow and felt a core hardened by the cold of the shake. I guess it was wishful thinking to expect a gooey marshmallow center hugged by a thin, slightly crispy exterior in a cold shake. All in all, I enjoyed my meal, but didn't find it particularly memorable. As far as I've come, perhaps I haven't reached the point where I can tell a fairly good burger from a really good burger. I may be back if I'm passing by, but I don't think I'll be begging for a drive to Crystal City for GSE.

Absolutely delicious! I love burgers and I appreciate all the different variations you can get from restaurant to restaurant and this place is amazing. We've tried many different things on the menu and not one thing has disappointed us. We have been there on several occasions and one thing that stands out is consistency and EXCELLENT customer service. Food is ALWAYS good and the staff is always so nice, welcoming and courteous. We will be long time customers because of this reason. Oh... and the milkshakes are insanely good! Did I also mention their 5 different variations of flavored mayo for dipping and for burgers? Yep... slightly sinful!

Really like this place - fun vibe and good food but nothing outstanding. Reasonable prices, and I appreciate that they have. Good turkey burger. Also love all of the flavored ketchups. All were great minus the old bay one, which I thought was (unsurprisingly) too salty. Great place for good, casual food though. Would like to I back and try the shakes!

That was a tasty burger. In town for the Winter Classic and were staying close by. Not exactly the New Years eve dinner I would have like to have had, but it was a good burger, fries and "onion petals'. Some tasty dips to go with too. I see there are plans to come to chicago too. I will have to check it out!

I've had one good burger here. Went for lunch again last week and got a steakhouse burger and a drink. The burger wasn't cooked through all the way (like, really not cooked through), so I brought it up to get my money back. Once you taste borderline raw meat, you don't exactly want another burger. The cashier then refunded the $8, but not the $2 for the drink. So, like, he actually took the time to find the amount on the receipt as opposed to just giving me the $10 back. Lame. "a.f." What am I supposed to do? go to Corner Bakery with my GoodStuff cup? Because... that's exactly what I did. Overall, I've definitely had better. There are plenty of places around Crystal City that serve a good burger, even actual restaurants. The service isn't that great. So I won't be going back to this particular location... could try others though.

Fantastic meal. Been wanting to try for a long time. The sunny side burger was phenomenal. Came with a fried egg and bacon. Was a great combination. The fries were well cooked, and the dipping sauces were a great touch. The chipotle and sriracha went really well with the meal. Finished it off with an Oreo shake, which was thick, creamy, and delicious. Great spot.

I love these burgers! This is the fourth burger joint I go to besides smash burger, BGR, and Big Buns. Their burgers are delicious and their fries are tasty. I come here on my way to work and always catch a game on. The food is delicious. I will always say that you can get good burgers from Good Stuff eatery! Also, like their shake. Nice and thick.

So here's the scoop. I love top chef - so if I'm in DC I have to eat here. :) The burger was cooked well... Nice crust on the outside, pink in the center. I got the good stuff melt - I probably Should have gotten a farmhouse instead. Fries were unremarkable and the onion pedals were ok. I also got te salty caramel kiss shake because I am obsessed with all things salted caramel. It was good - but not enough salt... Basically tasted like a regular caramel shake. Prices are high... Portions are small. All in all this is a good place, not amazing though. I still think the shake shack is a much better burger meal.

On the hill, I usually head for We The Pizza rather than stop into Good Stuff, but when they opened the Crystal City location, I couldn't resist the convenience. I don't know exactly what it is, but I never love my experience here. Overall, they burgers rely more on their accessories than the quality of the burger itself. So I usually get their veggie burger, which is a panko-breaded portabella stuffed with lots of cheese. This happen to be the same veggies burger that they have at Shake Shack... I wonder who copied who? Anyhow, the mushroom burger is delicious. I love the textures and flavors, but it's so decadent it's definitely not an "every week" meal. The flavored mayos are great, but they really only belong on the fries. Also, why invest that much time into the mayos and only offer up gross yellow mustard? Strange choices.... But back to the food. The rosemary fries are a good stuff-only choice which keeps me coming back, because they are wonderful. The shakes are hit or miss. Sometimes they are sickeningly sweet due to the add-ins. Even the Vietnamese coffee shake (love that creativity!) was too sweet. As for the restaurant, it's always too loud and they don't have as much seating as you would think. They also don't clean down the tables very well, since it's usually sticky there. But it's a burger joint, so who cares? Is this my favorite burger place in DC? No. But it's definitely not a bad place to stop with friends for a social outing with pretty great food!

As with the Good Stuff Eatery downtown, this one has outstanding milkshakes and excellent food. Food-wise, it's primarily -- if not entirely? -- burgers and fries, but there're several options for both. And the milkshake options...YUM! Oh-so-many unique combinations! Oh, and there're other things to drink...but why would you want to? The set up for this one is like the inside of a barn built by modernist farmers. They've combined the homespun inside-of-a-barn look -- shape, size, lines...and a gate -- with modern (and, strangely, also old school, now that I think about it) chrome and steel. There're several tvs in spots along the ceiling. The staff is friendly and patient. My only suggestion would be to have a separate line for people only ordering drinks (read: milkshakes). I can be patient, but if it's not just me who comes in 50 percent of the time just for a milkshake, it might be a useful adjustment.

I second Derrick's yelp review about how when my order came up I thought it was a kid's meal. The burger was suprisingly very small and for the price, I too expected a decent-sized burger similar to BGR Joint or Elevation Burger. Nonetheless there was definitely quality in the taste of the ground beef. Couldn't tell if it was grass-fed? Organic? Couldn't find that info either in the paper menu, or anywhere on the walls. The Village fresh cut fries came out oversalted, dark brown (heat may be too high), soggy and limp, and green (waaay to much herbs). Perhaps they could do a double-fry method. I give 3 stars for having a variety of menu items including turkey and chicken sandwiches, and having beer on tap. Try it at least once but be prepared to painfully fork over around $15 for a cheeseburger, fries, and drink, and regret it later. Otherwise, head over to Old Town where BGR Joint, Five Guys, and Foster's Grill awaits.

The toasted marshmallow shake might get 4 or 5 stars, but the burgers and fries definitely get 3 or less. Not only are the burgers all wrapped up (and the buns just get all saturated and nasty from all the grease), but the fries are hella soggy! Ugh! I've been to the Capitol Hill location and now the Arlington location, and I'm still standing by my early opinion that the burgers are too salty. The bacon, which you'll find on at least half the burgers, doesn't make it any better. Also, wrapping up the Sunnyside burger totally ruins the whole fried egg-on-the-burger thing. It's all squished, and the delicious runny egg is lost to the wrapping paper and possibly your pants. Fail. My second time, I ordered the Steakhouse burger. It was a lot of beef, easy on the mushrooms, and could have used some veg. I don't know why this place is so averse to leafy greens, but I've adopted the habit of eating burgers that are loaded with fresh, tasty toppings. Some sad looking mushrooms and congealed swiss cheese don't quite cut it.

Milk shakes are pretty awesome. Burgers are pitifully small for the price, so don't go if you're hungry. The buns are also a disappointment; they look kinda like the ones you would get at a supermarket. Half the fun of this place is trying all the different sauces, so get the fries [which are semi decent but always soggy and very greasy]. The rosemary+thyme fries are not really as different/as tasty as the normal fries, and they're more pricy.

It was amazing. The sauces were perfect. If you love mayo based sauces this is the place for u. Also the best fries ever. They have a touch of rosemary spice on them. I don't eat beef, so I clucked it, which means you get the same sandwich instead with chicken. The manager, Ryan, was phenomenal. He was so generous and gave me one of their cute marketing shirts. TOTAL 5 STARS GREAT FOOD GREAT SERVICE GREAT SAUCES GREAT PRICE

Awesome addition to Crystal City! The burgers and fries are great and the shakes are phenomenal! Must try!

While in Crystal City for a meeting, I was told I had to try this place out. We walked in around noon and it was packed. I looked over the menu and decided on the Farmhouse Bacon Cheese. How hard can it be to mess up that burger? I was also told the toasted marshmallow shake and fries rocked also. So that's what I did. A little pricy for lunch, but oh well, if its good, then it's all good. I placed my order and waited for my food. It didn't take too long, I think less than 10 minutes so not too bad. First thing I noticed was how small the burger was. The fries had a decent taste, but were a little too greasy for my liking. The shake was the best part of the meal. I should have just gotten two of those. Overall it's not a bad place. If I had to choose this place or Five Guys, I'd take a Five guys burger. I think those have more flavor. I do like the condiments they have with the differently infused sauces. I'd come back here again and try something different, but the real reason would be for the toasted marshmallow shake.

I mainly came to Good Stuff for the toasted marshmallow milkshake. I'm a huge fan of all things s'mores, so after seeing the enticing photo in Washingtonian Magazine, I knew I had to check it out while I was in DC. First of all, I really love the design and decor of the restaurant. The huge communal table seems like a fun space to eat with several other people, and the counter top seating in the window was nice as well. My mom and I shared the traditional cheeseburger and hand cut fries, both of which were cooked perfectly and really flavorful. I couldn't believe how hot and crispy the fries were, especially considering they came in a bag. The fries were a little over-salted for my taste, though, and later in the day I was drinking water nonstop to compensate for it. The condiment bar was fun, and I ended up bringing home some Old Bay mayo for my sister to try. Overall, I would come back to try some of the different specialty burgers. They weren't as greasy as Five Guys or Johnny Rockets, which I liked, and the lettuce, tomato, and onion were all really fresh, not just slapped on as an afterthought. Now, on to the real show-stopper, the shake. I have to admit, the flavor and texture were spot-on, but after drinking less than a quarter of it, I was full. Like, did not want to move, really full. It was thick and sweet, and just ended up being too heavy. I wish the shakes came in smaller sizes, because I would get it again, just by itself and not after half of a burger and some fries. I like that you could taste the toasted marshmallow and see the real vanilla bean flecks from the ice cream, and it came with a roasted marshmallow on top. It's definitely worth trying if you make it to Good Stuff.

Burger Paradise i was staying at the Crystal Gateway Marriot and this happened to be close by. My friend that was living in Arlington at the moment, took me here with rave reviews. I immediately liked the environment. It wasn't the typical burger joint. I had the veggie burger here (the only one I believe) and it was DELICIOUS! If you familiar with Minneapolis's nationally renowned "Juicy Lucy", this is pretty much the veggie version of it. It's just oozing with cheesy goodness instead of the veggie patty. The portions are great and not too big. I was also impressed by the assorted condiments. I loved the sriracha mayo!! Overall, I recommend this place! It will leave your belly in a good place

Wow. The Washington Post said this was one of the best places in DC to get a burger and Good Stuff did not disappoint. First of all, they have salads on the menu which I really appreciate because healthy options matter. Second, service was great; I asked the cashier which salad was the most popular (my intention being to get a salad with a burger on the side) and, with a shrug, he told me they were all fine because a Greek salad is a Greek salad is a Greek salad. He said people come to Good Stuff for the burgers - you can get a salad anywhere. You know what I heart? Honesty. So I got the basic burger with all the toppings. I forgot to ask for my burger rare. Well, when I got my order? It was PERFECT. Meat was juicy, a little pink on the inside, and packed a flavor punch. I see that other reviewers complained that the serving is small; I disagree. Portion control, folks - you don't need a half pound of meat in your meal. I was thrilled with my purchase and will go back in a heartbeat.

Great fries and sauces but burgers are only slightly above average. Can't compare with Shake shack for overall experience.

Thank you, thank you, Mr. Mendelsohn for being such a gracious host at the pre-opening party for the Good Stuff Eatery Crystal City location! Spike even made sure to stand by the door upon everyone's exit, and personally thank them for joining him at the pre-opening party. This location is the first attempt at an expansion of the existing location at Capitol Hill. So far, the expansion looks like an awesome addition to the existing GSE in SE DC. Square footage wise, this might be about the same as the original, but this is more open, and on one floor. Seating is spread out, and gives you plenty of space to breathe. The location is super convenient in Crystal City - I am sincerely crossing my fingers that it stays open late enough for me to munch away after working hours! The food consisted of the same menu of the Capitol Hill location (although I will have to check back to see what the official menu is), and the service was FANFREAKINGTASTIC! Quality was not, in any way, sacrificed when catering to this event, and my +1 is now as hooked on Good Stuff Eatery as I am. I was lucky enough to try all the other burgers (for purposes of this event, they were slider sized, although normally, they are larger), and I loved every single one of them. Obama burger was and still is my favorite, however, everything else gets a double thumps up!! I even got to try the chocolates, which I hadn't been able to up until this point, and much like the shakes, they were totally orgasmic. Again, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Good Stuff Eatery, and on a total fluke, was lucky enough to get an invite attend this event. Between the food, the music, the service, and the company, I have to say, it was easily one of the best nights of my life so far in 2012, and I absolutely can not wait for GSE to formally open in the upcoming days. Keep an eye out for Bravo's, "Life After Chef", where this party/opening will be featured on the TV show. Doubt I will be in it, but this specific location will be, so if you enjoy GSE, Spike, or Burgers as much as I do, check it out! I will update this review as I found out exact air dates for the episode.

I adore Good Stuff. It is definitely one of my favorites for lunch after a day in the District. The Michelle Burger (turkey burger with scrumptious sauteed onions) and a side of Village Fries (handcut fries with rosemary and thyme) is my go-to order. If I am not ridiculously stuffed I get a mini shake (which is still a generous size) with the Toasted Marshmallow my favorite. Seriously, though, if you find yourself here enough sampling all of their flavors should be a goal! I was here most recently last Sunday. It was quiet and service was extremely quick. NOT the norm, at least with the Capital Hill site as I suppose local workers plus tourists collide to make it a fairly packed location. My group had our food and all was great. The part that I was bothered by were the endless fruit flies around the condiment bar and soda fountain. I think there were maybe 5 other tables of people in the place and yet no employee was addressing the issue. I am talking SWARMS of flies and we all know fruit flies aren't exactly swarming around fresh stuff so I was thinking, hey, maybe take the trash out? The other thing that irritates me to no end is when casual restaurants using lots of disposable things like cardboard cups, plastic utensils, paper liners, etc. have no recycling. It's 2015. Time to get with the century and have recycling or use non-disposable utensils and cups at the very least.

They have great burgers! The burgers are a bit on the small side so you need to get something else with it in order to make a meal out of it. It's right along the restaurant corridor on Crystal Drive.

Umm wow - this place was PACKED. We got there right when it opened on a Sunday at 11 and it was just starting to get busy. Within 20 mins the line was to the door. I had the turkey burger and it was amazing - light and flavorful. The guac and fried onions on top were to die for! My fiancé had the burger that comes with chipotle bbq sauce and he said it was really good but super messy. It looked super greasy. I also ended up eating his fried onions because they were THAT good. He missed out on those! The village fries were just ok. Too much seasoning and super greasy and soggy. The sauce selection is pretty cool too - mango mayo sauce? Who knew it was so good? Not sure what the best time to go here is - seems like they stay busy. We lucked out getting there when they opened but it was a short period of time before the crowds came!

I loved the burgers. All of their burgers get rave reviews and I definitely had a hard time deciding. Their fries are perfect as well, the consistency is amazingly crispy without being overcooked. I highly suggest sampling the fries with all of their different dipping sauces. Why would you want to use ketchup, when their other sauces are some bomb. ..... Can I see that these days? "Bomb"?.... Snowden HELP!!!

First time..many varieties to choose from. I had the 'Shroom veggie burger....real different with stuffed muenster & cheddar that will lava out on your first bite. Not bad..but next time I'll try real meat! + rosemary fries were good. So many flavors all at once!!! I'll shall be back!

I'm a big Top Chef fan so when my friend N said that there was a Good Stuff Eatery around the corner from her apartment, I was quite excited for dinner. It's a cute place - it kind of reminds me of Shake Shack with the first come, first serve seating and the vibrating alert thingy to let you know when your food was ready. Oh, and with the somewhat high prices for a small amount of food that's somehow relatively filling. But whatever - the food is tasty. I ended up getting the cookies & cream shake, the Blazin' Barn burger and the village fries. The milkshake and the village fries were amazing - I wish the portions were bigger because I'm not quite sure that it was worth paying that much for somewhat small portions. I guess the justification is that the food is rich enough to stay full with a smaller portion... but still. The burger was weird - I should've ordered the 'shroom burger or Spike's Sunnyside like I was planning, but I thought it'd be fun to try the Asian-inspired burger. Let me tell you - pickled daikon & carrots have no business being on a burger. It was not a good substitute for pickles... but I liked the rest of the burger. I'd definitely come back if/when I come back to the DC area - it was a great way to kick off my visit.

Burgers are a little expensive but delish. Good quality pickles! Milk shakes are awesome. Toasted marshmallow is my fav along with that one seasonal toasted coconut one. Fries are pretty good but could be crisp. Love this place!

Good Stuff Eatery is as good as it gets. Even if you aren't crazy about their burgers or their fries, you cannot be a living, breathing, red-blooded human being and disagree that the Toasted Marshmallow milkshake is not the best milkshake on Earth. It's impossible.

I honestly don't even remember what exactly I ordered here. If I can't remember, it's average ratings for me. I just remember the menu being very hectic with too many options. The burger I ordered was indeed tasty (sorry don't remember which one- probably the regular one??), but I remember I was still hungry after eating it. It reminded me of Shake Shack's burgers but smaller. It would've been nice if a side of fries or something came with every order.

After a day of riding bikes to the National Mall, this was the exclamation mark to end our day. This is one of the best places for a burger and creamery shake. The Obama burger was amazing, applewood bacon, onion marmalade, Roquefort Cheese & Delicious Horseradish Mayo Sauce.

Always delicious! Generally pretty crowded, but that makes sense because it's good. My only complaint is how LOUD they usually have the music. I live nearby, so I often end up getting my food to go because of the music,

Unethical business practices galore. They charged me a $0.30 environmental fee which is declared nowhere on the menus. I know it's only 30 cents but it's the principle here: this is Arlington, not DC. In DC, the environment tax actually goes to the Goverment as a means to discourage using bags. Arlington has no such function so this cash is a surcharge going straight to Chef Spike's pocket. Moreover, we didn't even ask for a bag or anything that would invoke the charge - they just charge it to everyone by default. I wonder how many tens of thousands they've made from that scheme and people let them get away with it because "it's only 30 cents." I won't be back to any of Chef Spike's establishments - here or We the Pizza - after this issue and their previous display of unprofessionalism (see last review that they ignored). There were some people at a large table while we were there getting wooed by management - I think they were considering investing or franchising. I hope they don't. I'm also disputing the $0.30 with American Express. I hope Chef Spike enjoys the $30 chargeback fee he's gonna be hit with for his gross lack of basic business ethics.

So after I posted my last review, I got an email from Good Stuff's owner. He apologized for my poor experience and asked me to give the restaurant another chance. I was impressed by the committed ownership, so I did, recently, and I can say I had a much better experience than I did my first time. There was ketchup at the dip bar (!), there was no fly issue, and the burger (I got the one with the egg) was a heck of a lot better than it was the first time. I can at least kind of see why my friends rave about this place; it was definitely pretty good. Perhaps, like the owner insisted, I had really caught them on an off day. I was impressed and will more than likely stop by again some time.

It's basically the Chipolte of local fast-but-fresh burger joints. My salad was dissapointing (calling a salad a Wedge but it not being an actual wedge of iceburg is a bit misleading). But, my friends' burgers were apparently fantastic. The staff was great.

Oh my gosh! I love this place!!! They have such a variety of burgers that there is something for everyone. I really like their rosemary french fries. And don't even get me started on their milkshakes. They can make anyone happy my favorite was the monthly special, frozen hot chocolate. Amazing!! Parking is truly a pain around here because there is only street parking during the day and the parking garage after 5pm. Also, if you go around lunch time or dinner time, plan on standing in line and waiting a little while for your food. I don't mind because it's totally worth the wait.

Oh man, I've been itching to head back to Good Stuff Eatery for soooo long, ever since that fateful day when I had my first tasting of Village Fries at the location in Capitol Hill oh-so-long ago. I'm pretty ashamed that it's taken me so long to get to the CC location, although based on my experience finding parking on a weekday, maybe it's a good thing I've stayed away, haha. I don't remember too much about my previous Good Stuff Eatery experience other than the awesome food, but this location really impressed me too. It's big, clean, open, and the staff was all super friendly. There was a bit of a lunch rush when I first got there, but I still had no problem finding a table or navigating my way through the dip bar (more on that later.) I got the Spike's Sunnyside Burger, which comes with American cheese, bacon, a fried egg, and Good Stuff sauce. It was delicious, although I was desperately hoping for a runny egg (I mean, the description even says "served with lots of napkins!") but the yolk on my egg had broken and thus it was completely cooked through. It was still a really tasty, filling burger, but I was le sad about the state of my egg. That's really the main thing that contributed to this review missing a 5th star. I got my burger with the combo deal of a snack fry sized village fries and a "mini" Salty Caramel Kiss shake. UMMMM, there was nothing mini about that shake, yo. It was enormous, creamy, and crazy sweet. I couldn't actually finish it, due partly to being so full from the burger + fries, but also because it was just soooo sweet. I mean, it was sweet in a good way, but I definitely will skip the shake next time unless I have someone to share it with. Speaking of those fries though, Good Stuff Eatery is a dipper's PARADISE. I will forever proclaim my love of dipping things into other things, and Good Stuff has an entire bar full of delicious flavored mayos, like chipotle, mango, old bay, sriracha, etc. My favorites were the mango and chipotle mayos, but believe me, the village fries are good as gold on their own too. Them's good fries, people. Mmm, rosemary... I'm definitely super happy with my second Good Stuff Eatery experience! I just wish that there was a location that was more easily accessible to me since I can't say I'm super anxious to venture back into Crystal City and try to find a garage that will actually let me park there, haha. But hey, Spike just opened a location in Philly, so who knows? Somewhere in Falls Church or Fairfax could be next! ;)

Wow, what great find. Thanks to the advice of fellow Yelper I found the "Good Stuff" in Crystal City. Loved this place. I was really in the mood for a tasty burger and Good Stuff delivered. I showed up on a Tuesday at noon, the crowd was manageable and the food came out quickly. Seating was not an issue. There were a few groups seated around us but we had no problems finding a table. This was my first trip to the Good Stuff Eatery but I was impressed. I ordered the Colletti Steakhouse Burger which comes with Applewood bacon, sharp vermont cheddar fried vidalia onion rings with chipotle bbq sauce. Can you say delicious! This combination was amazing. Coupled with a healthy order of Sunny's Handcut Fries and my meal was complete. Oh wait, don't forget to explore their selection of tap beers. NOW, the meal is complete! Great atmosphere, great service, great experience. This place is a win in my book. I'll be back, two thumbs up!

A favorite burger place to locals. The ingredients are all incredibly fresh and the burger options can get pretty crazy. I had the Steakhouse Burger (roasted cremini mushrooms, onion straws, emmental swiss cheese with tangy steakhouse may) [$6.98] and thought it was one of the best things I had ever consumed. All of their burgers get rave reviews and I definitely had a hard time deciding. Their fries are perfect as well, the consistency is amazingly crispy without being overcooked. I highly suggest sampling the fries with all of their different dipping sauces; ketchup just doesn't cut it here. But before you leave do your taste buds a favor and make sure you have one of their milkshakes. I had the Toasted Marshmallow [$5.45] one and it was something I still dream about (a friend said that you should ask for extra chocolate syrup on top).

Just a heads up... around lunch time during the work week the wait times can be EXTREME due to the amount of patrons. These are some of the best burgers I have had though. The fusion of flavors, ingredients and toppings is hard to compete with. Definitely a place to visit a few times if you work/live in the area.

I ate here twice during a two day seminar across the street. The Greek salad with chicken is a generous portion, fresh and delicious with a surprising smattering of dill and sesame seeds. Fountain drinks including 4 types of iced tea. The little corn muffin that accompanies the salads is freaking delicious. Each little muffin must have a whole stick of butter or something. Not a terribly long wait either. I did have some sticker shock over the $15 price tag though.

Last week a friend and I went over for a burger. When i came to the cashier (there was no line) I mentioned that Dave, the owner, had given me a free shake. The guy behind the counter knew the story and MY NAME! How's that for company culture? I and my Social Media savy friend were very impressed. We both ordered burgers (mine rare) sans buns. I ordered mine rare, with grilled onions, tomato, lettuce. We waited about 7-8 minutes. And then the little flashy pagers went off and we got our food. My burger was juicy, delicious, I could really taste the meat, not just a meat mouth feel (which was also good). I will go back for sure and get more burgers, perhaps try the fries next time.

Zomg SO MUCH YUM. I am in love with their fries which are always fresh and perfectly salted, their dipping sauces (chipotle mayo is amazing), their burger with the bacon, cheese and fried egg, and their toasted marshmallow milkshake. I was hesitant to try it because I am not a big fan of marshmallow-flavored foods, however it's not super marshmallowy but actually the perfect amount of marshmallow. Get iiiittt!

After one try, I like this place. In the words of my husband, "why did we wait so long to come here?" Our order (for two adults, two children): two of the farmhouse cheeseburgers w/ everything, plus fries & soft drink with each meal; and two "mini moos" chocolate milkshakes and a single order of fries to be shared between the littles (I know, healthiest. lunch. ever. for the kids. But they were happy. And quiet.) First, the mini moo chocolate shakes were delicious - and much bigger than I imagined. I liken the size to a large, red solo cup. And the kids weren't complaining. They finished them off in no time. I thought for sure there would be leftovers for the mom and dad. What was I thinking? Ha. As for the burger, DH said, "I could eat five of these." It was delicious. The patties are much thicker than a Five Guys single patty (I love Five Guys, though). And the hand-cut fries with each meal were plentiful. Really, there was no need to order an additional fry for our girls to share. They had plenty from our plates. And before I forget: BEST CRUSHED ICE IN TOWN. Actually, the fountain machine has ice pellets, my favorite. If you're an ice fan, yum, yum, yum. Good ice, here. I know, I know. Reading this back to myself, I sound like an idiot. But I like ice. Thank you, Spike, for having awesome ice (I'm not being sarcastic; I'm serious. Before I left, I made sure to bring a cup of ice with me!). How it works: walk in; simple 5x7 menu awaits you; pick on up and make your decision; order from the register; drinks and condiments are self-serve; you're given a red-blinky box that will go off when your order is ready; pick-up your order at the far left of the counter. Notably, any burger can be substituted w/ grilled chicken. Seating: far more plentiful than I expected. There are 10 two-tops w/ umbrellas outside (I think there were umbrellas . . .). Indoors, there are a few booths, a large communal table that probably seats at least 20 (?), then a number of four and two-tops, some lined along a benched chair/wall (perfect for a family with three kids; we sat our 2 and 4-year old comfortably; 3-month old was comfortable in her car seat, hanging out on the bench, mesmerized by the noise and colors). Service: fast and friendly. There are about 5 flat-screen tvs on the wall. On a Fall Saturday between noon and 1, two football games were showing. At about 12PM, there was no line and the restaurant was a quarter full. By 1PM, it filled up, but there was still some seating to be had. Parking: free (weekend?) garage parking about 1/2 a block down. Two things: 1) when we first walked in, the music was ear-piercingly loud. And, as a parent of three, I actually like noisy/loud restaurants (in the event a kid starts to get antsy, it's always good when no one can here her!). Half-way through our meal we noticed that it had been lowered (music was good, though - oldies, fun stuff); and 2) I've never written this in a review, but I was so impressed by the clean/nice "family bathroom" that I thought management might be receptive to this - a plastic stool for the kiddos to stand on while washing their hands would be a perfect addition! I never would/do expect a restaurant to have this, but when they are family-friendly, that would be such a nice little addition (try the rubberized-bottom ones from Ikea - simple plastic white ones w/ traction for the kids). I'll definitely return again and try something a little more unique.

I attended the "official" grand opening of Good Stuff Eatery at Crystal City on 5/5/12. It was perfectly timed as I needed a pregame meal before the Caps playoff game! Let's GO CAPS! I decided to try the NEW Steakhouse burger topped with roasted crimini mushrooms, onion straws, swiss cheese. The burger was cooked as requested (medium) and actually tasted better than my previous experience. I enjoyed the freshness of the mushrooms, and the crispiness onion straws melted with just the right amount of cheese. The flavors were matched perfectly and coincided with their new salty caramel kiss shake. The shake was not as salty per the assumed title. Its nice to know a dependable burger is available within walking distance from work! Thank you Spike! Hooray! A word of caution..give yourself plenty of time as it is their opening weekend. I waited 20 minutes for my food. I'm sure the wait time will improve as time passes.

I have been waiting for this joint to open ever since I noticed the construction going on, and finally got my chance to go to the pre-opening! This place is amazing!!! From the chic atmosphere to the bizarre burgers! Even something as simple as milkshakes are giving an influx of the "wow" factor with amazing flavors. One of the many things that I find important to any restaurant are the sauces which Good Stuff has nailed on the head with their house recipe mayos, making fry dipping fun again. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Spike Mendelsohn may not be the most liked person but I'll eat his infamous creations any day :) Things I tried while there: Black and White milkshake, Colletti's Smokehouse burger, small order of fries and of course all the dipping sauces.

Very good food, but typical NOVA prices. Burgers are awesome and the fries are outrageously great. Seating both inside and out. Counter service was fairly fast considering the size of the crowd. I'd stop in again for a great lunch when in the area.

These burgers are awesome! Granted I am pretty tame and get just a cheese burger, but it is superb. I will say that if you are used to bigger burger patties, then you won't be pleased, but being the small meal eater that I am, it is perfect for me. You have to try the village fries. The snack size is plenty for two people to share, but if you are very hungry then get the regular size. I'm sure they would be good plain as well, but I like the herb seasoning on the village fries. The milkshakes....YUM!!!! I am partial to the toasted marshmallow, but all of them are good. After a burger and fries, I ask for a small (I'm assuming it is the kid size). The one on the Hill is equally as good!!!

I'm removing a star for false advertising. I barely noticed the cups for the shakes say "Bring on the Brain Freeze." It's impossible to get a Brain Freeze with their shakes because the shake is so thick it will have warmed up and melted by the time it works its way up the straw to my brain.

Overall: It's hard not to love a Spike burger and a creamy milkshake! Food: Lots of burger options and so many are delicious! The Michelle Melt is especially good. My only criticism is the wax paper its wrapped in makes the bun a little soggy. The sandwiches are a good size and there's a good ratio of toppings to meat. Speaking of meat.. I don't think this would be the best restaurant for a vegetarian. There are salads, but that's about it. I'm not a huge french fry fan but my husband ordered them and thought they were ok. They're more of the soft type fry than the super crispy kind. Don't forget the dipping sauces! Drink: If you have room, order a toasted marshmallow milkshake. Ahh so good! Cookies & cream is another good option Atmosphere: The Crystal City has far less character than the Capitol Hill stop. That being said, this one is closer to home so I'm glad it exists!

Disappointed. The dipping sauces were decent, but that's about it. I continually tried to TASTE the beef, but could not. The meat alone would never stand on it's own, all the cheese and sauces and toppings help, but Hellburger or 5 guys over this place anyday unless I'm craving soggy fries with dipping sauces, which is NOT likely. I couldn't taste the marshmallow in the milkshake, I'm pretty sure it was just vanilla. Boo.

There is a huge disparity between taste and presentation in the food here. The Michelle melt, Obama, and Smokehouse all tasted great. The problem is that because of how quickly the burgers are packaged after finishing, and wrapped up, once unwrapped the burgers just look like a flattened mess. Same with the fries. They are jammed into a bag much denser than necessary, to the point where it just seems like you have a chunk of potato that is coated in oil. On the good side, the taste was excellent, as was the mayo bar. The mango mayo and the sriracha were good dips for the fries. Service is somewhat strange; with the coasters that light up when food is done and somewhat long waits, the to-go customers just wind up standing around awkwardly. Price was reasonable, if on the high end for burgers.

I LOVE this place. Their burgers are delicious, and they have interesting options. Their fries are perfect hangover cures, and their milkshakes are to die for... my friend loves the toasted marshmallow shake, and I am partial to the oreo or the chocolate, but they do sometimes have seasonal options. The staff is always friendly, and they serve beer! I just wish they have a peanut butter chocolate shake!

I've been to the Capital Hill location and was excited when they opened one closer to me. The parking situation hasn't changed much - but the actual restaurant space is much larger. The line was outrageous the weekend they opened and it seemed like the grill may have been backed up. We were lucky enough to get a table before our food was ready. There were a couple benches to hangout on and wait. Like 10min into our wait Harvey Mendelsohn (Spike' father) walks up to us and cracks a joke, shoots the breeze for a second, and then says if its been longer than 15min go inside and we'd be helped. Which was super cool. My wife ordered a salad (yeah I booed and shouted obscenities at her too for eating lettuce that wasn't between 2 buns) they forgot to add her chicken, but since they didn't charge her she just enjoyed it anyway. Afterwards she went to order chicken because the rabbit food didn't fill her up. Once they found out that she never got her chicken the first time they gave her a whole new order for free. Overall better experience here, than the other.

GOOD STUFF!! Great burgers + fresh fries! Enjoy the wide variety of fry sauce and top everything off with a thick shake.

Burger: pretty good, on par with five guys, maybe slightly smaller but also I think slightly better but it' probably more a matter of personal taste. The major difference is that good stuff has lots of predesigned burger and condiment combos, where Five Guys gives you nearly any condiment or topping you could want as an option, and you design your own. Shakes: Excellent. Try the toasted marshmallow. Or the seasonal flavor. or anything. I haven't had one that wasn't among the best shakes I've ever had. Service: Garbage. The staff is rude, inattentive, and completely unhelpful. Example: They don't post the shakes with the rest of the menue behind the counter where it should be, but rather against the opposite wall. When I asked while ordering what kind os shakes were available that day, the girl behind the counter rolled her eyes and pointed over my shoulder without saying a word. I took a minute to read my options (holding up the line for everyone else) and when I turned around, she had walked away! she did come back 30 seconds later but the point was made that the customer was not the center of her attention. Fries: come in regular and rosemary, with lots of dipping sauces. This is a nice touch, and is an interesting twist on the five guys cajun fry. Verdict: Five Guys' hipster evil twin. Better Shakes, worse service, they're both too expensive. Update: The last time I went to Goodstuff the guy behind the counter was essentially polite and even smiled a little bit at me. I'm not going to change over one experience out of a dozen or so, but If this keeps happening I will bump them up to four stars. Hopefully the management has taken note of this

A pal of mine raved so much about this place I went to try it. They were out of ice cream, small cups and salt for the seasoned fries. My order was incorrect. Took it back upfront to the manager he offered no apology no nothing. The cashiers were friendly I really wasn't impressed. My food wasn't great either. I could've gone to Five guys at a much cheaper price.

Good Stuff is way high on my list of favorites. After visiting three times, I'm confident in their outstanding menu. Typical favorites include the toasted marshmallow shake, rosemary (village) fries, and the steakhouse burger. They put cleanliness, friendliness, and customer service high on their priority list. A fun hang-out, this copy of GSE is an always welcomed stop. Looking at how frequently reviewed this place is, let me highlight a few items especially noteworthy: Their fries appear to be fresh cut. It's not unheard of, lots of places and a few chains (In\Out) have been doing it forever, but it shows quality. The village fries with the rosemary on top are outstanding, a must try. Their aioli (read mayo) bar is welcomed, my favorite is the Uncle Ho sauce mixed with mayo. A familiar kick without so much heat for a burger. Recently they had a special milkshake, the Samoa (based on the girl-scout cookie) which was fantastic - rotating flavors will keep it real. GSE is a favorite both for the excellent food as well as the neat experience of it.

There's a lot of hype surrounding this place. I have heard a lot of people call these the best burgers in the DC area, which is very high praise considering the options we have available to us. Maybe its because of these expectations that I left feeling a little let down. Don't get me wrong, the name is accurate - this is good stuff. The burgers are very tasty, and they have a variety of good topping combinations, as well as the condiment bar. The fries are done well, and the shakes are great. For me though, the burger has to be the star of the show, and each time I have eaten here, I have felt very "meh" about it. I'm not positive exactly what it is about this place that makes me not love it. Maybe it's the fact that the burgers are cooked a little past medium. Maybe it is the fact that they are smaller than most other burgers for the same price, and maybe it is that there are just too many toppings on most of the burgers to actually taste the meat very well. I'm not sure what it is, but there are enough little things about Good Stuff that keep it from being as great as I was led to believe. That's not to say that I won't be coming back here. It's too close to where I live not to be worked into the rotation when I need a hangover cure, and they are certainly good burgers. I just don't think I can give it stellar marks when comparing it to the other great burger joints in the DMV. Then again, who knows. Maybe I just haven't found the right burger here for me yet. If something changes, I'll definitely update this review. As a side note, if you are in the mood for a shake, this place has fantastic milkshakes. 5/5 there.

The basil fries were amazing. The Blazin' Barn burger was unique and I'm going to order it again the next time I go. I just wish the patty had been more moist. The milkshakes were some of the best I've ever had. There was a mix up with my friend's order, but they fixed it immediately. The service was great!

Haters love to Hate.... This place is good...go and see for yourself. Everyone wants to tear it down because it's attached to a TV chef. I'm basing my review on the food. Arrived at 1pm on a Thursday, and there was barely a line (I love it already). I ordered a COLLETTI'S SMOKEHOUSE Burger (Bacon, Cheddar, Fried Onions, BBQ sauce...can't go wrong with combo!) They cook their burgers med - med/well, I'm not a fan of that so I asked if they could do med rare...They said No Problemo. This burger is definitely messy. I would call it a 4-5 napkin burger. It tasted great. Cooked just the way I like it and the bun is soft and buttery. Fries.... they were also great. Some were a little nubby and short (I like a longer fry) but they were hot and tasted great. Now lets talk dipping sauces. Chipotle Mayo - Nom- Nom- Nom! Sriracha Mayo - Good....could use more Sriracha. Luckily they have a bottle on the table, so go crazy! Old Bay Mayo - Good if you like Old Bay. After 3-4 dips, it's gets to be too salty. Mango Mayo - Not really my jam Overall a nice lunch experience. They only thing that sucked was the parking situation.

Despite the fact that we've lived within walking distance since Spike's masturbatory temple to his culinary genius, I finally went inside for the first time last weekend. I just wasn't that impressed by my previous visit to GSE on Capitol Hill a few years ago, but wanted to see if anything had changed and whether there was a great burger joint within a short walk from me. The main problem with this place for me is that the customer is so overwhelmed by branding and hype and photos of Spike (with that dumb hat) that builds up an experience that you expect to be transcendent and incredible. And then the food just brings you back down to Earth. The burgers are made with good quality meat, but were overcooked (well-done is different from overcooked) and pretty carelessly thrown together. The fries suck (for the price) - they are limp, gummy on the inside, and way too browned on the outside (like turd brown) instead of the golden they are supposed to be; this may work at a Belgian restaurant, but not at a burger joint. Maybe I'm being too harsh about the food, but when you're being bashed over the head about how farm fresh the food is and about what a genius Spike is for making this place and how thankful we should all be that he came up with this amazing idea, you have to expect perfection. And in the end, this doesn't end up feeling like a real restaurant for me, but simply a marketing vehicle to get Spike's name and brand out there (so he charge for celebrity appearances and sell a line of sauces or something at the grocery store one day). If you want this kind of food, go to Shake Shack in Dupont Circle or Elevation Burger (various locations), which are making food of better caliber at lower prices and not making such a huge deal about what they're doing. And if you are in the Cyrstal City area and need a decent burger, by all means go, but don't look directly into Spike's eyes on the many photos of him in the joint.

Not a fan of the soggy fries. But the Obama Burger. OMG!! So good! Perfect balance of some of my favorite flavors. Had lunch here on a family trip to DC, and insisted I had to stop back by to get another Obama Burger & Toasted Marshmallow shake for lunch on the way home.

I was very excited that they opened within walking distance from my apartment. The service was great, the staff was friendly the food was made fresh. The burger was the perfect balance of toppings, meat and bun. the bun was soft and not so big that it overwhelmed the burger. I didn't tell them how I wanted to burger cooked but I will make it a point to tell them how I want it cooked because I think that their standard prep is well done. The burger was still juicy but I personally prefer a medium cooked burger. the strawberry shake was very thick and delicious. wow! seriously good stuff! the fries were soggy. the seasoning on the rosemary and thyme fries was excellent but the fries were greasy and soggy. they were hot but I didn't care for the texture. This was the same for the vidalia petals. disappointing. they had many different flavors of mayo including sriracha may which has a bit of a kick. mmmm! they had many different burger taste combinations that I will definitely be back to try again soon. yay for good stuff! Update on the soggy fries. I went in a second time and asked if I could have my fries a little more on the crunchy side and they cooked them a little longer to improve the texture so a definite thumbs up! The service is great so I'm changing my rating to 5 stars since the fries were the only reason for my lower rating on my first review.

I was not impressed thre are much better burgers in the DMV. Spikes village fries had too much rosemary and tyme, stick to the regular fries and the root beer float was disappointing, Small, expensive and not very flavorful. I recommend getting a shake from Chick-fil-A and taking it ti Good Stuff. They service was ok, but it was extremely loud inside.

Mmmm... In general, I'm a pretty big fan of burgers. This place has a cute farmhouse-y ambiance and friendly staff. It was pretty pricey for two people to eat. I got the Farmhouse burger, hubby got the Prez Obama. When we got our food, I was underwhelmed with the portions compared to the price but the flavors were spot on. I loved the Farmhouse with the mushrooms on there (although, the mushrooms alone were salty but eaten with a bite of burger it was good). Super yummy. I also got the Vietnamese Ice Coffee shake and it was a lil disappointing. Vietnamese ice coffee is strong, this was a hint of coffee flavor with a lot of milky flavor. Maybe I'm confused as what a 'milkshake' is or maybe the name 'Vietnamese ice coffee' threw me off but I wouldn't try it again. (Warning: if you don't like grinds, don't get this shake). I'd go again but it's not somewhere to go for a cheap meal by all means.

So my friend learns about this place through Unique Eats... She wanted to visit the Capitol Hill one but I talked her into this one in Crystal City...LOL...Well I must say cool idea not the best execution. For what you pay the servings are small. The fries are ok nothing I would write home to Mom or anyone about.... I think the place is small for the crowd that gathers there...Just not that special of a place to me...

We stopped in here looking for a good burger and we found it! I got the farmhouse bacon cheese and my other half got the big stuff bacon meltdown. The burgers were very good. I saw others are saying they rely on their toppings rather than the burger itself and I'd have to disagree. I think this may be my new go to for burgers. I also have to suggest to any marshmallow lovers to try the toasted marshmallow shake, its heaven! The only thing we weren't such a fan of were the onion petals.

So glad they opened up in crystal city! The burgers are just the right size and the milkshakes are the best in town. My only complaint is that I forgot they put mayonnaise on the burgers. Next time I'll ask for it without. My favorite milkshake is the black and white. I hear the marshmallow shake is great so I'll get that on my next trip.

I have had the worst experiences and i have given this place several "second" chances. Two times I ordered the free range turkey burger and both times I almost broke a tooth on bone pieces. I took that to the on duty young manager and all he said was sorry do i want a shake?????? that is was it. They are over priced and the wait is long even when its not full. Their food is not bad I won't say somthing negative that is not true its good food but not worth losing a tooth over. I just went back today 2-12-2014 and ordered the turkey burger again, the cashier didn't seem very focused rushed, again I waited a long time for this so called fresh turkey paddy that looks frozen when they plop it on the grill. I got my order only to open it and he rang up a Swiss mushroom melt instead. The same young manager guy just said sorry but you will have to wait for your order again. Well i didn't have time and my lunch time would be over I had to get back to work couldn't have another long wait. I got refunded and i hope they got that right. I don't recommend this place overall just not a good experience, they claim to be all that but FIVE GUYS dominates them at a much better bang for your buck. I ended up going to Chipotle in Crystal City instead and in 5mins i got a tastey FRESH burrito and no bones in the meat. So far not a fan of this place it has potential but management is not good if they have these issues, the real full time manager needs to step up and fix the average to poor customer service, the dry burgers and the long long waits.

Glad I didn't read all these negative reviews before trying this place. Just went tonight - first time to this establishment and this location. What I ate was excellent and made me very happy. I tried the shroom burger (vegetarian) and loved it. It was hot and all ingredients on the sandwich fresh. I had the village fries and loved those. I didn't have issues with them like others did. Maybe they've improved, I got a great batch, or I just like things others do not. The sauce choices were good but they need Dijon mustard! Finally I had a toasted marshmallow shake which was pretty decadent and amazing. The space inside was nice. It was not crowded (I was there around 5 pm). Staff were all very friendly. I would definitely return.

I LOVE the toasted marshmallow milkshake. If I weren't so afraid of the calories I'd get one every day. They are that good. Burgers are decent; not a big fan of the buns but the rest is fine. I like the fries because they make a nice change from the usual fries you get at burger joints. Disappointing that all their salads feature iceberg lettuce. They lose a star for the music that is totally unnecessary given the natural noise level in the place. Been there three times. Will be back.

The burgers were good, but way too small for the price. The french fries were horrible. I'm not sure how you get french fries a dark, dark brown - they looked burnt, but just tasted greasy and bland. There seemed to be a lot of help just standing behind the counter talking, while the bathrooms, floors, and tables were all very dirty. The space is very nice and open - loved the common table. I was so excited to visit when they opened in Crystal City, but so disappointed after paying $23 for two burgers, two drinks and a large french fry. Sadly, won't be visiting again - at leads until i can forget the horrible french fires.

Decent, flavorful burger. Creamiest shake ever. A line of 20-30 people that moved briskly and a very attentive and friendly staff. What in the world are these reviewers whining about?

The first time I went to Good Stuff, I thought the place was pretty good, but not outstanding. THEN--I went back and got the Good Stuff Melt. I refuse to get anything else now. It might be a little greasy, but what do you expect of a beef burger with cheese? The regular fries are great. I also like the variety of mayos to choose from for dipping. I'm a fan of the chipotle mayo, while my boyfriend enjoys the sriracha or old bay mayo. Luckily you can try all the flavors and go back for your favorites! The toasted marshmallow shake is epic. I'm in love with everything marshmallow right now, and the tiny burnt pieces of marshmallow take me to the campfire.

Stopped through the Good Stuff Eatery in Crystal City for some late night eats... we ordered the Big Stuff Bacon Meltdown and Large French Fries... The Burger was good but it used the adjective 'Big' to describe it... it was more like a slider appetizer. The fries were very good - hand cut and crispy. Overall not bad, but a little expensive for the small portions. They are open late on Friday's till 11pm... one of the few eateries in Crystal City open late.

I've heard of the original location but despite living in the area for several years, I never had enough of a reason to go by it and try it, so when I heard it was opening in Crystal City, I was excited and stopped by today to give it a try. Let me first say that I know that this place just opened and so it's likely that there will be kinks to be worked out. However, given the other glowing reviews on here, I'm not really sure how I got to be so unlucky: I come in and am greeted by someone who I believe is the manager given that she was the only one not wearing the matching shirts, she gives me a menu, and I get in line. When I go to place my order I'm told that they don't have fries but that they'll substitute onion petals for no charge as part of the fries and shake deal. OK, no biggie, they're still new and working things out. About 10 minutes later, I get my food and immediately realize something's wrong. My burger (I ordered the Colletti's Smokehouse) has an S on it and it's got mushrooms. At that point, I check the receipt and realize it says mushroom burger. Not sure how one sounds like the other and I realized that yes, I could have checked the receipt right after I placed my order, so this could have been prevented, but I didn't and technically I shouldn't have to (BGR or even Five Guys gets it right without me having to double check.). Anyway, I go and tell them my burger is wrong and the manager is super friendly and apologetic and tells me they'll make the right one for me and it will be ready soon. I also didn't get my shake and at that point they realize that they hadn't made it, so they said they'll make that for me right away as well. Again, no biggie, they're still new and being very responsive for fixing their mistake. I stand near the pick-up counter and wait and it becomes clear that I'm not the only one who's having issues with their orders. Rather, that seems to be the rule, not the exception. This one couple was waiting for a shake that they had asked to get extra marshmallows on for their kid for 20 minutes, according to the mom. Through all this, I really have to hand it to the manager as she remained extremely professional, friendly, and despite being under a lot of stress, was trying to hold it all together despite her apparently less than stellar staff. If I were in her situation, I would've probably lost it, so props to her. Anyway, I eventually get my burger and shortly after I get my shake. At that point, I notice that the burger doesn't have any of the toppings that I had asked for (lettuce, tomato, red onion), just the bacon, cheese, and fried onion. I had already waited 30 minutes for my food at that point and was going to be running late so I didn't even care anymore and scarfed it down. So, I can't even say if the food is good or not since I didn't really have a typical experience: By the time I got my burger, my onion petals were cold and my burger didn't have the topping I wanted. The shake (cookies and creme) was delicious though, but again, I shoveled that into my mouth as I was power walking to my meeting since it took 30 minutes just to get my food, so I didn't really get to savor it. If this were any other place that hadn't just opened, I would be giving this a one star and telling everyone not to go. I hope that this place will improve and that the manager can get some better staff (or better training for the staff) so that the dining experience can be more pleasant. As I was waiting around, I found myself thinking that I should've just gone to Chick-fil-A next door, which is not a good thing for your customers to be thinking. I hope to go back at some point and if my experience is better, I will be sure to update this with a hopefully better rating.

I'd give this place 2.5 stars, again with my caveat that I'm going strictly on what Yelp says that means. Two stars seems bad but Yelp says it means "meh, I've had better," which you can probably always say. Anyway, I've come here twice now for burgers. And yeah, meh, I've had better. I love the space. It's nice and airy and they seem to be going for a retro/60s vibe on the music though it's not very adventurous. The long communal tables are cool, though I haven't had to share. On my first visit, it took FOREVER to get two burgers to take out. It was over 20 minutes and the place was not crowded at all. Not sure what that was about. On my second visit, I got my burger pretty quickly (how long does it take to cook one anyway; even a turkey burger). As for the food, the burgers are okay. I would have to judge them on price -- that is, they are $7 without fries. However, these are really Carl's Jr. $5 burgers at best. The hand cut fries are pretty good. It's nice that they serve beer and at a reasonable price. The counter service was very friendly both times. I'd put the burgers a half step below Fatburger (which I know, gasp, I prefer to In N Out) at a more expensive price. I haven't tried any of the shakes or floats yet so I'll be back.

Their burgers and fries were comparable to Five Guys. It was a good meal. I wasn't Meg Ryan'ing over it, but I would definitely go back if I want a burger. AND they take debit cards, unlike Ray's Hell Burger, so I assume they're on the up and up with their IRS filings. Bonus.

I am so happy that they opened a Good Stuff in Crystal City. I really enjoyed the burgers and shakes in the DC location but didn't go often. Everything about my Farmhouse burger was great. My friend enjoyed the Sunnyside. The mixed berry shake was delicious. The Village Fries were well prepared, not too salty or overly seasoned. And there are lots of options if you don't want to eat beef or a burger--chili, salads, turkey burgers, portobello, etc. The bad thing is I'm going to be eating more burgers and shakes now.

Nothing even remotely special just hype. Picture McDonald's without the arches. More of the same I'm looking for good food not businessmen trying to make money. This place comes across as an investment rather than a labor of love.

Great burger place with amazing shakes. Even on crowded weekends the service is quick. Unfortunately the fries are completely boring and not really worth paying for. A great variety of burgers means that almost anyone, vegetarian or otherwise, can eat here, even the gluten free folks since you can order your burger on a lettuce wrap instead of a bun. There is also a great variety of flavored mayonnaise like chipotle or sriracha that you can put on your burger.

there are WAY TOO many burger joints in this town. honestly, i would rate GSE between five guys and BGR if you've been to those. There was nothing special about. The only thing that was good were their dips. try the mango mayo.

Went to try out the new Good Stuff Eatery in CC last night and loved it! There were plenty of people in there to give it a lively vibe but I still got to order relatively quickly and my wait time for my food was only 5 - 10 minutes. The staff was super friendly and efficient. I got the regular farmhouse burger and thought it was cooked perfectly and was delicious! My boyfriend got the burger with the egg on it and loved his too. To drink, we shared a rootbeer float, which was the best I've had since my grandmother's back in my childhood. Sorry Grandma, GSE's might be better. We also shared a portion of the fries with the thyme and rosemary. I thought they were too heavy-handed with the spices (especially thyme) and I thought the portion size for the large bag could have been a bit bigger. But otherwise, you can't beat a fresh-cut french fry. The old bay mayo was fantastic but they were out of the mango mayo, so I didn't get to try that one. I like bbq sauce on my fries, so I'd be thrilled to see if they could offer some creative bbq condiment options. My only other complaint is that they don't serve fresh brewed ice tea. Not everyone is a soda drinker and I don't necessarily always want a shake, float or beer. Overall- two of us ate for $25 with fantastic service and delicious food! Update- knocked it down to 4 stars because the experience was wonderful but without ice tea and bbq sauce, I don't think I can give it 5 stars. But I'm still a fan :)

Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.

Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top.
