We went here two times this weekend. It's in the same parking lot as our hotel. It seemed like the staff was a bit stuffy when we came for dinner. They insisted we sit out on the patio an then it was kind of putting them out when we asked them to turn on the heater. It warmed up nice once it was finally turned on. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and my friend ordered the seafood salad and we shared them. The food was ok not like the best thing ever. Our bill was over $80 for my husband and I with 2 drinks, 2 meals and a side salad. Kind of pricey but ok if the food is good. I'd call it more if a $50 meal ;) We came back this morning for a free breakfast buffet that we got through the hotel. We got seated in the same seats as last night but this time the window was closed and the heaters were blazing. Once we got them to turn it off so it wasn't 900 degrees it was great! I was excited to see melons in the buffet until I tasted them. Watermelon was old and kind of slimy. Ick! Cantelope wasn't food at all. The cute little waffles they had were good but would have been better if they were warm. The potatoes were fantastic! Overall it's not a bad place but I'd recommend somewhere else for dinner unless you like snooty staff and overpriced meals.

I took my mom there tonight for dinner. It was pretty good. Service was fairly slow. They were in no hurry to get us out of there that's for sure. I ordered the new York steak. If I pay $40 for a steak, I want it to be just damn delicious. They out McCormick steak seasoning on it and call it good. I made the same steak at home last week for $7. My mom got the pork chops which she says were really good. By the time they got us our food it was a little later than we expected so we are fairly quickly. I handed get my card right when she brought the bill and mentioned politely we needed to go. I got the bill added the tip without hardly looking and, signed it, and we were on our way. I got home a few hours later and looked at the bill and they had added 18% gratuity to the check for a party of two. Are you serious? I called them and they apologized but could do nothing. I don't mind tipping and tipping well, but not almost 40% on a $70 meal with service that is mediocre at best. I will probably but be back for a long while because of this. If you go, make sure to check the bill.

The good: Great views from the restaurant. Really great breakfast which is free if you stay at the best western. omelet station gets a little busy but it's worth the wait. Everything seems pretty clean and the place is nicely decorated. The only reason why I gave it 2 stars instead of 0. The Bad: Evening customer services sucks. I order a steak medium well and it came as rare. I posted pictures on how bloody this steak was. It was mostly fat. For a $$$$ the quality of dinner was like sizzler's. I took half of it back to the hotel to microwave it but when I saw it the next morning, I almost hurled. I had to wait 10 minutes to get a steak knife. It's not like they were busy, being the most expensive place in town, there was no one really there. The wait staff just doesn't care about you. It was impossible to get service. When it came time to write the tip, the philippino waitress stood right next to me while I was adding up the credit bill and started making excuses why she should get more. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Food was great! Good steaks, salads & the best creamed corn I've ever had. Service had some issues but it was their last night open for the season. We almost didn't eat here because of the poor yelp reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised.

Excellent food. We came here every day for Breakfast for our two stays (total 4 days), and this trip had dinner as well. The breakfast is very nice. The eggs are to order, and the regular spread is very nice, with fresh dishes, fruit, yogurt, great coffee, tea and everything you could normally want from an american breakfast. The dinner was spectacular. Usually at breakfast they leave the awnings drawn in the porch area. At dinner, they opened these up for an incredible dining experience, with glorious views of the mountains. But that was just for show. The food was to die for. I ordered the Filet Mignon, with a great glass of pinot. The steak was cooked perfectly, with nice sides I just cannot remember now. My wife cannot remember what she ordered now, but remembered (in her mind) it was better than my steak. This is a top notch restaurant, with a price tag to go with it. Enjoy it.

Great view, easy to get to (Shuttle stop just across the street!), good service, good food, but extremely overpriced. Great View: Giant floor-to-ceiling windows look towards the west side of the valley, beautiful at sunrise and sunset. The dining room is sparsly laid out and was nearly empty by the time we placed our order. Seems a lot of people who made reservations bailed on them. (see: Overpriced) Good-not great-Service: Our server was super friendly and accommodating, but there was an issue. When one of our party (a petite woman) ordered the porterhouse, he neglected to tell her it was a 27-oz steak. Not only couldn't she eat 27 ounces of beef (which I doubt any of us could) she specified that she wanted "A STEAK." A good waiter would suggest the best steak on the menu. A great waiter would take into account her tiny frame and suggest the best steak on the menu that a normal person could eat in one sitting. Food: I wouldn't write home about it- in fact this is my shortest part of the review. It was filling, but nothing stood out to me. I can't even remember exactly what I ate! Overpriced: for two people who drank water, had two appetizers, and two mid-priced (on this menu) entrees, the bill was $130. I call that RIDICULOUS. I get that this is the "season" in a "Resort Town" and this place is "nice" but that is exorbitant. I had a much better time the night before at the place across the street and it didn't cost an arm, a leg, and a pound of flesh.

Excellent. First we went to Oscars, as we were told it was the locals favorite spot. After ordering and getting warm beers and soggy guacamole, we left. Then we went to Switchback. Excellent food, great variety, very attentive service. We were very happy with the quality of the food. Excellent.

Quite disappointing overall. Waited about 10 minutes to see our server, another table saw server immediately, though not the same server. She insisted on taking our order even though we had not seen a drink menu. Prices were a bit high for what was delivered. Had to send the $39 16ounce strip steak back, wrong temp. Steak itself had little seasoning and I needed some steak sauce, something I normally try not to use. My wife had a special, Chilean sea bass,a little small for the $36 price. I drank an $8 dollar mixed drink and noticed even a coors light draft was $5!

First off, I never write reviews, however I felt this place was due some insight. My husband and I came here to enjoy a nice anniversary meal. Being on the more expensive side, we expected a great experience. We were seated promptly and the server came to our table in a timely manner. Once the drinks were served and orders taken, the "service" went right out the window. It was the little things that got our attention the most, i.e. not refilling our water glasses once even when they were completely empty, and never coming back to see how our meal was once it was dropped off by the food runner. Our server was pleasant enough but definitely could benefit from going the extra mile to see to her tables. We were both very excited about ordering top USDA steaks, but were sorely disappointed in the quality of the meat. We are not beef connoisseurs, however we enjoy steaks enough to know a good cut. These were not. My ribeye was med rare but closer to medium once brought out. Then by the time I got half way done, it almost tasted like a pot roast. And I LOVE ribeye! My husband's filet was also very sub par. The flavor and tenderness was all off. We are not cheap people however when paying $40+ per meal, I expect a little wow factor. A couple of other things that seemed off was when we overheard our server ask the table next to us if they'd like the "service charge" added onto their bill. I assume due to the fact the couple was foreign, she took it upon herself to add a tip. This seemed very offensive and presumptuous. And then she did not bother to ask the same from us. The bill was also brought right after our dessert was served. As this was a celebratory meal, we weren't in any type of rush to leave. I assume since there was a wait in the lobby, they were trying to turn and burn. If you've read this far, congrats. It's not been fun to write but we just wanted others to be aware before choosing to spend an evening here. We suggest Bit'n Spur across the road!!

Went here on a recommendation from the bartender next door. Our waitress was terrible, the steaks were undercooked, lukewarm and chewy. Ordered steamed broccoli and received an entire head of broccoli (enough for 4 people) jammed into a dish with no seasoning of any kind. Way to expensive for what it was. The wine was good though.

  • Kavita P.

The service was friendly and efficient. The waitress, hostess, and manager were kind and courteous. The Reserve red wine was excellent. We ordered the NY Strip steak with sautéed mushrooms and the pecan encrusted Chilean Sea Bass with vegetables and for dessert the biggest banana split we've ever seen. The three stars are because both entrees were BLAND, for the price, $39 per entree, they really need a new chef that understands flavor.

Came to Zion for the weekend. After spending the day in the park,we figured we would have a really nice dinner. What a disappointment that was. I ordered the pecan crusted seabass and my husband ordered the ribeye. The seabass had a very fishy taste and normally sea bass doesn't, so I'm not sure what they were passing off as seabass. The redskin potatoes tasted like dirt and my ice tea had a really odd taste too. My husband's dry aged prime steak was ok, but not worth anything near what we were charged. The bread was good and our waitress was nice, but paying over $100 for good bread and a nice waitress (we didn't even have drinks) makes me feel cheated. Don't waste your money..order a pizza!

The breakfast buffet was complementary for staying with Best Western Zion Park Inn. I had their breakfast for two days. I agree with the other post. The food are basic buffet items, but their food quality and service is pretty good. I like their omelette and juice. . We'd like to try their dinner but the wait time kept us away. Overall I'm very satisfied.

Excellent food with a great atmosphere. They just re opened for the season so service was a little bit slow, but nothing too concerning. You pay for quality so bring your wallet as it is a steakhouse. Good selection of wines. Save room for dessert and get the chocolate banana bread pudding!!!

Horrible. The lady in the gift shop was rude and pretentious. I'll never go back. We ate next door and it was OK. It was typical bar food. The waiter didn't refill my glass once, but he was nice enough so we could have been OK with just a reduced tip. Not too bad. Then we went next door to get t-shirts and souvenirs. The lady in the shop was so rude we won't give any business to them. I understand tourist heavy places don't care because their repeat customer business isn't as high, but that was ridiculous. I even put my stuff back on the shelf and left. There are plenty of other choices in Springdale to get gifts for family.

We had a beautiful dinner here after a day of hiking at Zion. It's fine to go in casual clothes...you pay out of the nose for your food, but it's not shishi at all. The food was delicious and the wait staff was attentive. We ate right at the beginning of dinner time (5pm). I would suggest getting there at that time to have your pick of window seats like we got. :-)

I've eaten here before and was excited to bring my mom and boys here for dinner. Was extremely disappointed with the hostess Grace who at first couldn't find our reservation and wanted to argue about where we were seated making a scene and being extremely rude. We ordered... My filet was ordered medium rare and it came out raw on the bottom... It took 15 min to get the steak back (now over cooked) my side was cold and family had finished eating. The server finally apologized and offered a local 10% off. The manager never came by. For the prices the service should've been way better!

I think people sell this place a little short. The restaurant seems to aspire to franchise-ism, and the reviews were a little lackluster, so I was hesitant. We sat on the patio area (really nice) on a beautiful evening, which helped. Service was excellent. Dad got a bloody mary, which was well-done. Calamari appetizer came on a bed of vegetables, and was actually soft, good calamari. We saw someone else getting served the meatloaf, which hooked 2 of us. (You'll see it at switchbackgrille.com/ame… ). Bacon-wrapped meatloaf...the internet would be so proud. It was, predictably, delicious. We also got a steak and a porkchop, which were both not disappointing. Overall, we had a great dining experience. If you're in the mood for a somewhat upscale dinner in Zion, and you're hungry for "grill food", this place is great.

service and food was excellent. I had the tomato soup which was fresh and tasty. my husband had the filet mignon which was tender and cooked just as we wanted it .

Pros: The service was excellent. Serving sizes are generous. Great ambiance. Cons: Food is just so-so. I had the pecan encrusted trout and it was overcooked and dry. The salad wasn't that fresh and had some mushy tomatoes. Conclusion: I would have liked to give this place 4 stars; but I feel I can't because I didn't feel the quality of the food merited it. So I gave it 3 stars. The number one reason why I go to a restaurant is quality of the food and then secondarily followed by quality of service.

This review is for the trading company. This is a nice little gift shop that sells liquor. The selection is thorough and the prices are fair. However, the employees are HORRIBLE. They act as if they are doing the customer a huge favor by simply being there. They are usually engaged in conversation with one another and have absolutely no idea about customer service. I actually think their faces would crack if they tried to smile. So sad.

This place was very very good. My wife had the coconut shrimp which she said was the best she ever had, and she is picky as sh*t. I had the flat iron steak (lowest price steak on their menu) and it was honestly the best steak i have ever had. I got it cooked medium well and it was absolutely perfect. Will definately return in a few months when im back in Zion for vacation.

breakfast buffet was tasty and a nice way to start the day before heading out to hike at Zion National Park. good service, nice decor, and buffet line had good basic offerings: cook to order omelettes, plus waffles, french toast, bacon/sausage, and the typical selection of fruit, juices, and coffee/tea. breakfast buffet was included with stay at adjacent Best Western Zion Park Inn.

We celebrated our anniversary at the Switchback Grille because it was walking distance from our room and because our waitress from Jack's the night before said she would be working and we should come sit on the patio. The view is beautiful and of course we had perfect service. Bread was immediately brought to the table with this wonderful balsamic dipping sauce. The husband and I both had the nightly specials: mine was the halibut served with a coconut couscous and the husband had a swordfish chimichuri and we finished the meal with a huge raspberry sorbet. It is expensive but so is everything else in Zion; it is Utah so expect weaker cocktails, at least the beer is not 3.2. Thank you Sally/Tanisha for making this a 4 star experience.

We really love the area and some of the food and they had great salad and veg but the fish and meat was absolutely horrible and overpriced which you would expect as you are at the mercy of the area but I definitely do not recommend eating at this place ever again I've given it two chances now. In short a great place to stay Awsome view bad food go down the street a bit to eat.

I guess the rush of Zion folks at 9p threw them. Took 30 mins to get meal. And after 25 mins waiter came to table to inform us they'd run out of risotto? Kid pizza took extra five mins (really?) and kid steak monumentally undercooked (sent back and still med rare). House specialty meatloaf is two hamburger patties sandwiched b/t two thick tomato slices with gravy. Was expecting substantially more considering you're paying $36 for a piece of fish, $26 for shrimp and $20 for meatloaf. Waiter was good and apologetic but he should've offered to comp something (anything). If you're dropping $$$ you've got high expectations. And they weren't met.

Our group of 20 retired professionals who enjoy fine dining loved this restaurant. The service was outstanding--hard to do with a large group! The food was amazing! I had the seafood linguini--best I've ever had. The mussels were tender, and the scallops full of flavor. Hubby ordered a well-done ribeye, which is hard to do. He said it was cooked through and still juicy and great taste. Others raved about their scallops dinner, the 3-layer meatloaf, the mahi-mahi (maybe ask to have it cooked 30 seconds less), and the seafood pizza. Several people couldn't believe the raves over seafood pizza, but tried it and thought it was wonderful, including one man who doesn't like seafood and doesn't like pizza. Desserts were equally outstanding. I wish we had discovered it sooner. It is expensive, but well worth it.

Note to self and those reading this review- when going on vacation, learn the state's liquor laws. This is the only place to buy wine, beer, AND liquor in Springdale.

    (4)
  • Sara R.

Way overpriced and below mediocre food. Came here for dinner and I ordered the spaghetti with buffalo meatballs, the marinara sauce was pretty gross. Canned tomato sauce is much better. The buffalo meatballs were flavorless. A friend ordered the chicken chopped and the blue cheese was disgusting. He sent it back and the waitress said it is very strong and that four other people had sent back the salad that night. The only redeeming food items were the tomato soup and creamed corn. Both delicious. The place is nice, but food is bad. Almost no options except sides and appetizers if you are not a meat eater. Don't come here, there are better options.

The only place in Springdale-proper to buy real booze. Everywhere else just sells wine & beer. The liquor store is located at the back of the gift shop. We bought a few bottles of wine and six-packs of Mike's Hard Lemonade coolers for the pool. Nothing was over $12. I got ID'd, which is always nice. I'm almost 29!

Sorry, this review was actually meant for Jack's Sports Grill!!!! Which is right next door!!! So lame. Sorry. Not sure how to DELETE it. ... Jack's Sports Grill Review: Fantastic breakfast! I had the '2 eggs any style w/ breakfast potatoes' (almost best I've ever had) and my husband got the same, with fruit substitute. We ordered a short stack of Pancakes. They were on the tough side, if that makes sense. Fluffy, but tough. Service was super friendly, however one of the girls seemed sick with a runny nose. Normally, I rate "1 Star" for sick employees to support employer ethics, but I couldn't identify how sick she was, since she seemed fine by the end of our meal. So, I'm letting this one slide ;)

Very good breakfast. Food was hot and tasty. Plenty of food and drink options to choose from. Would definitely eat here again. The attached gift shop had very nice items also. The staff were attentive and friendly.

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to Zion National Park. The hostess came across as a little snotty, when she pointed out that there will be just a breakfast buffet (no menu) and that it's 15.50 plus tax. The dining room is gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows and the interior is nice. The food was mediocre and not worth the money. Some of the fruit offered was fresh, a lot of it was out of a can. They had scrambled eggs, pancakes, beacon, waffles, french toast and all of it was pretty blah. They do have an omelet station, but none of us tried it out and the line looked like it moved slowly.

This could be such a fantastic restaurant but it really needs some management help. It prides itself as a steak house but my prime filet was not served medium rare (almost blue) and when returned they sent a cut up steak back over cooked.. Who know who's steak they gave me.?.

    (2)
  • Anthony N.

Tasty but overpriced. It took quite sometime to get the beer I ordered which was slightly annoying. They also didn't even ask my friend if he wanted anything to drink, so he just had water. They ran out of soup spoons which is very bizarre.

We have continental breakfast buffet, which is pretty good selection for free breakfast. I like their custom-made omelette. They have around eight choices and make it in front of you. In addition, the view is beautiful if you sit in the covered patio area.

If you check into Best Western Inn, they give you breakfast coupons to Switchback Grille. Let me tell you, it's a blessing, since they have an awesome selection. They also let you pick out how you'd like your omelette done (which is a win for my boyfriend and I). Servers are very courteous, so no complaints here.

I wish I liked this place more. The atmosphere is great and the location even better. The food is really good, but not great. I would definitely recommend the Switchback, but only after you have tried a few other places in Springdale. If you're staying at the Best Western and don't want to walk or drive anywhere to eat, then definitely go to the Switchback.

  • Jason M.

Food was decent, but we waited for over an hour and half to get it. Several tables were seated, served and out the door all in the time our food took to come out. For a 38 dollar steak they also didn't have any steak knives available until I was almost done hacking it up with a butter knife. It wasn't until I asked for a dirty one off of a table they were cleaning that they got one washed for me. 90 dollars for 2 people should come with better service.

This place was easily the best meal we had during our four day stay at Zion. While most of the places reflected the tourist nature of Springdale(poor quality for the cost) Switchback Grille was the one place where the quality actually lived up to the price. Great meal!

This is one of the pricier places in a town of pricey restaurants. Remember it's a resort town. Wife had seafood linguine. Good seafood to pasta ratio. Seafood included mussels, scallops, shrimp, and salmon. Nicely done. I had the meatloaf. Which was bacon wrapped and had a strip of pork belly on top. The meatloaf was on a bed of mashed potatoes with some extra mashed potato "peaks" on either side. It was very good but a little fatty, even for meatloaf. The setting here is more upscale than most places in town and the prices reflect that. In summer or early fall the floor to ceiling windows would offer a great view of the surrounding mountains. Service was very good. We would come back.

First of all, I'm biased because these awesome people catered my Wedding. But to be fair, we shopped around, and in the end we were more than pleased with the results. Their Chocolate Gateaux Cake was so rich and decadent we didn't even bother with a Wedding Cake. It was that good. Even the guests agreed. The salmon was fresh and wonderful with the best Hollandaise sauce. The Southwest Chicken was a great way to share the Ssouthwest flavor that we love with our out-of-town family and friends. The grilled asparagus was tender and flavorful. In short, everything we sampled here was perfect. And the final dinner menu we selected was a hit. Sapphire, the Catering Manager was very friendly and responsive every step of the way. For a lovely dinner or for a catered Wedding, I give the Switchback a full 5 Stars. Thank you!

Awful service! A lady named Linda was working the counter and was incredibly rude & demeaning. First off I asked her if that was where to checkout, as it wasn't very clear. She stared at me and rudely said "If you are ready I guess". She was so rude about the beer I was buying. Being the ONLY liquor store in Springdale, a very touristy town mind you, you shouldn't work at a liquor store if you are going to cast judgment on those who are buying alcohol. Then she acted as if I was stupid for not knowing that ice cream couldnt be bought with beer and had to be separate transactions. Completely insulting. Thats fine if thats the rule, but she was so rude about it I just put the ice cream back and walked out. Her attitude was uncalled for and I will not be returning to the shop or either of the associated restaurants because of her. Everywhere else in Springdale is so friendly and kind to their out of town visitors. Go somewhere else!

We ordered the Margarita Pizza, Spaghetti and Meatballs for Dinner, and bought a bottle of wine for take-out. As you may know, State Law has all kinds of strange, primitive and puritan rules and restrictions regarding alcohol. The purchase and use of alcohol is frowned upon even in the state liquor store. We received dirty looks and an attitude of disdain. Nonetheless, my partner and I decided we would smile and be kind. The woman at the counter (Aleese), appeared overwhelmed and even muttered "I'm never going to finish this!" as we laid our purchases on the counter. Poor thing. Because we purchased two bottles of beer in addition to a bottle of wine, we were curtly informed that the purchased could not be conducted simultaneously, but must be made separately to accommodate Utah state law. Actually, she never informed us. She just rang up the wine and then grabbed for my card again to ring up the beer. I had to pull the card away from her clutches to ask what she was doing before I got a decent understanding of the circumstances. We almost felt guilty about buying alcohol, even though it was for sale and we paid for it, because it seemed to make her so uncomfortable and downright disgusted. She couldn't wait to get rid of us! She called "Next!" before we had even gathered our purchases off the counter. We get it Aleese. You want us out of here. Chapter two in this saga is that we took the wine back to our hotel next door and asked to use a wine opener. One was procured and we began to open the bottle. We were astonished when the entire top of the bottle snapped off at the neck. No one was hurt but the wine was deemed undrinkable. The hotel front desk staff kindly called the Switchback and explained the circumstances. They spoke with Aleese, who assured them that the Switchback would replace the wine and open the new bottle for us. So we took the offending bottle back. Aleese met me at the door, clucking nervously and assuring me that "this has never happened before." She rushed off with the broken bottle and told me to get another one, which I did. I asked if she would open the bottle, and she replied simply, "No." I asked if she would allow me to open the bottle, and again she replied "No." She stated that the bar could open it for me, but they would just have to recork the bottle. I guess she meant seriously recorking and not just sticking the cork back in, because when I agreed to this option, she informed me that I wouldn't be able to reopen the bottle. I agreed anyway, thinking that we would just find a corkscrew somewhere (not the easiest task in Utah, it appears). She then rushed off to the bar with the wine, returning with a corkscrew. She told me that we would have to take the bottle outside and that I would have to open in myself. Fine. She stated that state law would not permit her to open the bottle. No problem. So she went back inside, I opened the bottle, and then she returned to collect her corkscrew and usher me away. What an ordeal! I guess it doesn't matter if you want to tie one on or just relax with a glass of wine after a long day of hiking in Zion. You are treated like riff raff either way. Next time we will avoid the Switchback altogether. On the other hand, we found the staff at the Hampton Inn (next door) to be friendly, accommodating, and personable. They went out of their way to be helpful and were very sincere. We will definitely return to the Hampton Inn but we will take great pains to avoid the Switchback.

Took my parents up to a hike and view that they could handle, and took them out to what I thought would be a great dinner. The dining area is nice, elegant and spacious. View of the outer terrain inspiring for the morrow's hike. Wine list wasn't bad at all (except that they seemed to be out of everything I wanted.) We all shared food just so we could try a little of each. The waitress who attended us was very polite and thorough, without being heavy handed. Of the three dishes selected to eat, my Seafood Linguini was the best. No outrageous or daring flavors, just good pasta with good healthy serving of scallops, shrimp and other seafood. The flat iron stake my father ordered (for the price) was quite small and I hate to say it, bland. He and my mother had worked up a ferocious appetite earlier in the day on a warm up hike, but neither of them really enjoyed it, and I don't blame them. The cut was juicy like meat, but it only served to fill the stomach, and not provide for a great steak experience with flavor of cooked fat nor herbs to process it. My mother's four cheese pizza, on the other hand... now that was appalling. Why? Because earlier we had been served the traditional bread and water while we perused the menu, and the dough of the bread and the pizza were nearly identical. (I've had more variety at school cafeteria's with english muffin pizza and actual pizza sauce). Of the "four cheeses" you could only taste one and enjoy the texture of the other. Again, it served as something to fill the stomach rather than a delight of the tastebuds. Some of the other tables beside us were having varied experiences as well. The seafood was enjoyed, but you didn't have to speak German or Korean that no one was pleased with the steaks. I've enjoyed great breakfasts here before, so Your Experience May Vary, but I genuinely feel bad that I disappointed my parents with this meal. The Switchback Grill CAN do better, and I have tasted it before.

Had breakfast buffet here. I thought it was pretty good. Fruits, french toasts, cereals, made to order omelet, coffee, juices, bacon, bagel, they pretty much had it all. I was satisfied and I thought it had a nice view it seated at the back area of the restaurant. I would go back for sure.

Far better than the similarly priced restaurant at Zion Lodge, they know what it means when you order a steak Pittsburgh style. Excellent service, unlike the creepy hippies that work in the park. Just saying.

Springdale. A fun and funky tourist town located at the mouth of Zion National Park. Neat little shops, nice restaurants, etc. etc. But, as we learned at Switchback (one of the few stores stocked with liquor) - if you want booze on a Sunday, you are crap out of luck. The state owns all the liquor, and won't let it be sold on the lord's day. Well it ain't my lord. My lord goes by either Jim, Jack, or Johnny (and just once Jose). And not allowing me to commune with him was an affront to my religion. Damn it Utah... you were doing so well. But then I sobered up.

Best tomatoe soup - EVER! the food overall was great, service a bit inconsistant but we will be back when in Zion!

This was heaven-sent to us the day of Uruguay VS Nederlands world cup game. We just drove to Zion National Park from AZ and this is the only place we found that plays World Cup. There are so many TVs to choose from and the crowd was just great! There are couple of families with kids, there are seniors, and bunch of hard-core soccer fanatics (guilty*). It's such a nice, mixed crowd that made the game more enjoyable. We had the best Pina Colada and bratwurst sandwich with mixed-in sweet potatoes. The bartender (which is probably the owner/manager, too) is super friendly. We had a great time and it's nice and cool inside - perfect to take a break from the hot weather outside. Across the street is a park where we had to take a nap (a short siesta) after all that excitement.

Being inside the Best Western we didn't expect much of an atmosphere here, however we were pleasantly surprised by the dining rooms ceiling to floor picture windows and stunning view of the red rock mountains the surround Springdale. We were not very hungry and wanted to order light, so we order two items from the starter and salad menu. We order a fantastic Scallop dish as an appetizer and the BLACKENED SALMON SALAD which included Cajun Spiced Blackened Salmon, Avocado, Asparagus, Artichoke Hearts and Citrus Vinaigrette. The steaks here appeared a little pricey, however the early bird special had an excellent price. The dining room appeared to be filled with Spingdale locals taking advantage of the special which included a large sirloin steak, potatoes, vegetable, salad and desert for $20. We were happy with our meal and would return once we have exhausted the other choices in town.

I had the pleasure of going to Switchback for an early breakfast and walking in I was surprised to see the place PACKED. There were only two servers for a room full of full tables and we ended up grabbing our own menus from the hostess stand to speed the process. :) - GOOD food. I got the blueberry pancakes and my friend got the banana pancakes. Unlike a lot of breakfast joints, Switchback puts the fruit into the batter. In my opinion, this makes or breaks a good pancake. There were also flexible and allowed us to switch around menu items for a minimal charge - Great sports bar atmosphere, ESPN was playing at 8am...my kind of place! - Hotel discount! With the Best Western discount our massive meal had a tiny price :( - Not the best service, might have just been an off day though. - Not sure about lunch or dinner, the menu looked 'meh'

I can't complain much about Switchback Grille. We came here late one night, around 9:30 on a busy Saturday, and were pleased to see no wait to enter and a pretty solid menu. We decided to sit at the bar because it was easier and proceeded to order some drinks and food. I had the soup, salad, and sandwich combo and my friend got a Santa Fe chicken burger. We were both really pleased with our food and drinks, but the best part was the casual, relaxed atmosphere and pleasant staff. It was all just what we needed after an endless day of hiking in the morning at Bryce Canyon and all afternoon and evening in Zion. I probably won't return for a while, though, just because it seems like there's so many other great restaurants to try in Springdale, but if I'm ever at a loss, I'll definitely know where to go for a tasty bite and good company.

Had dinner...Filet Mignon and Pecan Encrusted Trout...very good. The creme-brulee had great flavor but was grainy. The service was also good. In spite of all this, I just didn't find my dinner at Switchback to be especially memorable. In the future, I may return to sample the many appetizers, but only after trying out some of the other places in town.

Overall, I would steer folks away from this place..sort of doesn't fit the Zion national experience..even so, if they were looking to offer the high end prices of a major steak chain, I expected the food to match the prices...fail on both counts.

We had a great dinner here with excellent service. Probably the best chopped or wedge salad that I've had and the Caesar was also delicious. Both entrees - roast chicken and the meat loaf - were delicious and well presented. The wine list was pretty expensive and not a great selection - mostly lower end, but drinkable wines at high prices. Overall a fairly expensive meal, but the quality of the food and service still made it a decent value.

Pass this place by - quickly. My family of four and I ate here on a Sunday eve during our trip to Zion. The place couldn't have been more than 1/3 full, so the problems couldn't have been because they were overwhelmed with diners. Where to begin: terrible, nursinghome-esque atmosphere on their patio, awful elevator music playing, deathly slow service, poor food and high prices... other than that, everything was great. My summary on the atmosphere - unless you're 80 years old, this place will make you feel like taking a nap - it's that dead in there. We were one of about five total tables on the patio, and the time between apps and main course was at least 30 minutes - I was about to get up andwalk out when the food FINALLY arrived. My sons "pink trout" looked surprisingly like salmon and was overcooked, my other son's lobster tails were so overcooked as to be like rubber and my prime rib sanwich was passable but chewy. There are wwwwaaaaayyyy to many other choices in Springdale - pass the one by, quickly. Among my recommendations - the Spotted Dog (great interior and patio dining, attentive, fun staff, good food and reasonable prices. If you want tasty take out (the inside is loud and very cement-like) the Flying Monkey is fun - good beer, too.

Convenient. That's the best I can say about this place. It is no where near as good as it thinks it is. There's a big whiff of Denny's about it. Enuf said.

The restaurant is located at the Best Western Zion Park Inn. We went there for dinner because it was one of the restaurants that didn't have a line of people waiting (Memorial Day weekend). I ordered soup - it was supposed to be beef spinach soup. There was not one piece of beef in the concoction. The few pieces of macaroni floating around did not go with the whole overpowering spinach taste. One of my dining buddies ordered the cajun salmon. She said it was so spicy that she could hardly eat it. Another person ordered a salad which had in the lettuce mix some wilted and brown leaves. Go to another place for dinner. . .this restaurant is not up to par with other eating options in Springdale.

We got our food from here to go the evening we arrived in Springdale. We ordered two pizzas (BBQ chicken and pepperoni) and two salads (ceasar and salad greens with blue cheese and pears) and that was enough food for the three of us. Pretty tasty, too, although the food was a little pricey. But it was good. And the staff were very accomodating. While I was waiting for our food, several parties came in after the restaurant had closed, and the staff went ahead and seated them. I thought that was very nice.

In town from SF, found this place to watch the niners lose to the giants. The game itself notwithstanding, was a great experience. Delicious burger, local brews on tap, served by the pint or liter (!), friendly staff, and friendlier locals. Not quite the atmosphere of the Bit'nSpur nearby, but can't hold that against 'em, as it's a smaller, more traditional space. Still highly recommended if you're in the area and looking for the closest thing to a sports bar.

The food was either over-sauced (very heavy thick tasteless sauces) and the fish was overcooked and tasteless. The service was horrible and then our waitress had the nerve to ask if she could just add the tip to the bill!!! We were only a party of 4. That was a first. Steer clear of this place.

What a nice surprise. ...perhaps I shouldn't say that, but I really did not expect such a high end restaurant out here. I was surprised by the number of stars, but then I read the reviews. ...people, either get a better job or learn to add. The price is correct for the quality of food and service. We had the tomato soup, filet mignon, sea bass, salmon, burger and some sides....bravo for executing all those dishes to the standards of an iron chef. The wine selection and the bar is very well equipped. The staff service is comparable to that of a seasoned member of Smith & Wollensky. And thanks to Tina for your attention.

Copy of yelp.com/biz/switchback-… as noted I'll use this for the interesting gift shop. Nice enough people. Only place in the area to buy alcohol. Bought a shirt for 20 something bucks. Was made up of a good enough fabric that I am still wearing it to this day. Some nice trinkets but pricey but then again it is a fancy-ish town in the middle of a National Park.

The food was really good, very simple flavors. The portions could be smaller. Our waitress was super nice and communicative. We had shrimp cocktail which wasn't as good but the tomato soup and our mains - perfect steak and ahi tuna were delicious as well as the deserts - creme brûlée and ice cream with berries! They were a bit slower with the wine tho. We also had espresso lavazza after our meal - not many US restaurants have that! Overall good european style restaurant, we are coming back next day, it is more of fine dining experience yet still casual. Cut on the sizes and you will be great!! Also the view is amazing!!

Amazing ribeye steak and baked potato. Great atmosphere, even better views. My Wife had the salmon but wasn't blown away. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great night out.

Good steak, sides, and wine. Steaks were prepared as ordered. My 5 star rating is relative to this location. What do people expect in such a rural location? This would rate 3.5 - 4 stars in my home of Salt Lake, but I was very pleased to find this good of a restaurant here. This will be your best bet in Springdale.

Little gem in the heart of some of the most amazing views on earth. This was my 3rd visit to Switchback, and they are consistent in creating amazing food year after year. From the amazing artisan bread with special dipping sauce, ( my wife wants and IV drip of this special sauce) to the perfectly cooked steak, it is good food, with good views and you leave full. An upscale restaurant in a tiny town!

As a few reviewers have already mentioned Utah has some very specific laws regulating liquor sales and unfortunately this is the ONLY place in town where you can buy takeaway liquor and wine (beer is available at the grocery store) and unfortunately you'll pay for the privilege and you'll have to be content with the the limited selection that's available... Better idea... If driving through Nevada or Arizona pick up supplies there!! If you run out, try not to do so on the weekend or between the hours of 4pm and 8pm as you'll experience rush hour and could be in line for up to 20-30 minutes waiting to check out with all the other boozehounds! Oh and make sure you have your ID handy... A sign warns that they'll card anyone who looks like they're under 35 but when I was there they were carding everyone - even Grandma!!

5 stars is for the BREAKFAST BUFFET ONLY on the restaurant side (not sports bar side). We ate here twice before our Zion hikes. We never came here for dinner. With over 30 items on the breakfast menu, how can anyone complain. Omelette stations, bacon, hot food, french toast, pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit, canned fruit, yogurt, cereal bar, coffee, tea, juices, they had everything. The BACON was amazing. My only tip to you is leave ample time between breakfast and your hike so you can evacuate your bowels leisurely.

Very accommodating! Chef agreed to switch my potatoes for coconut curry risotto because ideas potatoed out. It was served with 5 incredibly tender scallops and seasonal vegetables, garnished with an edible orchid. Tina was a gracious server. Thoroughly enjoyed this delicious dinner.

We ate dinner here and we were pleasantly surprised! The food was amazing! The service was great. Had Chilean sea bass and fillet mignon. Both were cooked perfectly with a nuveau cuisine style presentation. The Caesar and wedge salads were gorgeous, fresh and tasty. Chocolate bread pudding w banana was ok (the bread pudding was mush but the brûléed bananas were divine! Would eat here again in a heartbeat!!

First to start off the food was good... nothing exempliary.... the service atrocious for the $$$.... Better service at Cracker Barrel... Then the one thing that always gets me the server took the bill at the end and looked at the tip and walked off.... Just a pet peve...

Extremely dissatisfied. Poor quality meat, and nothing was cooked as requested. Additionally, you must pay for any side dishes! Nothing is included with your $45 steak!! Don't waste your time or money at this establishment.

Remember the old expression, "lipstick on a pig"? Well, that fits here perfectly. Three star food, one star service, five star prices. We were in this area for a wedding - fourteen of us looking for a nice place to share a grand meal in style, to celebrate the upcoming nuptials. Staff got of on the wrong foot right away - they wanted to split us up into separate tables which would have had us too far apart and half of us sitting with our backs turned towards each other, seemingly to accommodate staff so not all of us were seated in one staffers section. That was not an option for us and they seemed inflexible until we decided to walk out. Then they decided they could seat us together, end to end, but there had to be a big gap between the tables or it would be a fire code violation. Somehow we still wound up with two different sets of wait staff.... to insure wait personnel had equal customer seating in their sections. Definitely not something customers should have been bothered with. The decor was upscale and tasteful, the menus large, bound affairs, with separate wine lists etc. It seemed like the perfect place. But the service was slow, catch as catch can, the wait staff was poorly trained, and the kitchen staff was not capable of serving large parties. We finally all got our orders placed... The first table of seven were served and halfway finished with their meals when five of the other meals were brought to the second table. Two people were left waiting a good ten minutes after that for their meals. None of the steaks were worth anywhere near the $47 price tags. While cooked to order, they were bland and not very flavorful. The five little scallops sitting atop mounds of mashed potatoes were of decent flavor and quality, but nowhere near worth their $31 price tag. Honestly, we've had better fare at Texas Roadhouse for a fraction of the price, and much better service to boot. This restaurant pretends to be a somewhat exclusive, high-class, upscale restaurant. And to be fair, the facility is very nicely appointed, but the reality is that the food is too marginal and the service too poor to command those exorbitant prices. Very disappointing indeed.

We had the Breakfast Buffet which was offered FREE as a complimentary part of staying at the Best Western hotel, adjacent to the restaurant. The Breakfast Buffet I think is held between 7am to 10am (or that's what Best Western said the voucher was good for). The selection was basic and nice, having fresh cut fruit, oatmeal, french toast, waffles, pancakes, bagels, croissants, muffins, bread, eggs, bacon, sausage, roasted potatoes, cereal, yogurt and a fresh made to order custom omelet station. The only thing missing in my opinion was corned beef hash, my personal favorite for breakfast food items. There weren't any "signature" dishes that separated this from other eateries or even a Denny's, IHOP, etc type diner, which isn't necessarily a bad thing more than not being remarkable or outstanding from that perspective. The food quality was good. The service is mainly self-service aside from getting seated and having the plates and tables cleared. You can get your own drinks (juice, coffee, milk, etc.) which is convenient. This "does the job" in filling the belly before taking an adventure over at Zion National Park and fueling up with the most important meal of the day... Breakfast!

These guys are phoning it in. The food is expensive and very mediocre--blah bread and balsamic; tuna with a big pat of wasabi paste and very uncomplimentary vinegary lemon sauce; chicken salad with chicken that looks like small white boxes on a huge bed of greens with more of that balsamic sauce. Have these guys ever tasted their food--it doesn't work! The wine list is hilarious--think of a $7 grocery store label for $39.00 a bottle. The staff is gracious and the decor and views are wonderful. Great place to visit if you could bring your own wine and picnic!

Switchbacks is your typical bar-restaurant. Sports all over every large TV, cold beers on tap, and a good mix of bar food. We started off with the nachos and they were gone within five minutes. The only thing that slowed us down was the cold Polygymy Porter that we were sipping on. I ordered the Jalapeño Burger and it had a decent amount of spice, which I like. You really can't go wrong as far as a decent pub goes. I'd recommend this place to anyone trying to relax and have a good time.

It's not super pricey for dinner but it's just not memorable either. I can see going here for lunch or breakfast as I imagine it'll be nice during the day but at night, it's just another a nice seat down place. Service was nice but just average. We requested a few things and they kind of forgot and we had to ask again.

This place was nice but too fancy for the area! They tried to be a 5-star restaurant with most of the clientele being hikers. Tone it down. Good food and relaxing atmosphere would be better received.

There's more than one section to the Switchback. Part restaurant, part gift shop, part liquor store. We went to the restaurant for the breakfast buffet. The buffet was pretty standard. Make your own omelette bar, cereals, some warm items like sausage and bacon. If you're hungry, it's worth the price-about $12 a person. Plus, the views from the restaurant are amazing. The gift shop was so-so. Typical touristy t- shirts alongside a selection of Native American jewelry.
