Awful. Just awful. Let me just say that I was extremely excited to eat at L&L here in Provo. Having lived in Southern California, I was always impressed by how consistently good the food was (even though I knew it wasn't the healthiest). My friend and I went to L&L one afternoon and were immediately turned off by the horrible customer service of the girl at the register. First of all, she hardly acknowledge us, and then when she finally took our order, she mumbled the whole time. Upon receiving our food, my friend asked for some sauce and she just glared at him and then gave him a 1/2 full little paper ramekin. She was incredibly rude by all accounts. Now for the food: after coughing up WAAAAAY too much money, we got our fried chicken strip things. I'm not kidding when I say that each one was about 60% fat and nothing else. It was DISGUSTING. I ended up throwing away over half of my chicken just because I couldn't stomach eating all of the fried fat. I know this is a scathing review, and it's not my intention to necessarily hurt their business rather to warn others about going there (and perhaps suggest that they be more careful about the quality of meat they use and the people they hire to man the counter). I just came on Yelp without an account but upon seeing L&L, I couldn't help but create an account just to comment on my awful experience there.

Woah if you don't think is real Hawaii then buy some tickets And go check it out. Love the flavor of the past :) it is not gourmet but it is Hawaii !!!

The customer service is the worst I've seen anywhere in the area. The food is poor quality, under-seasoned, and seriously overpriced ($8-$10 for a combo meal that doesn't include a drink). I had been here once before and wasn't impressed but I thought I would try it again. Big mistake. At least I won't be making that mistake again.

Just like home. Reminded me of my days living in Hawaii. Will eat there again when in back in Provo.

I'm happy to say that this place is pretty legit. I've been living in Utah for about a year now and I've always wanted to go here. I guess I kept away in fear that it wouldn't be the L&L that I know. The little white fence shack in Liliha with the freaking oiliest BBQ Cheeseburger. I'm glad I finally went. I only had the BBQ Chicken and Spam Musubi, but it was amazing. My favorite thing was the rice with shoyu. Ah totally miss home. Anyways, highly recommend this place. Small and quiet, it's very easy to find. Unfortunately they are not open on Sundays. Regular size plate lunch is about $9 Planning to go back next week for saimin or chicken katsu.

I was so waiting to go here this weekend and was I dispappointed. They had no Pork LauLau, so I got Chicken Katsu. It was a tad over fried, so too cripsy. The place was dirty so I took it out. The sauce was not the tonkatsu sauce I used to get so when I put some on the rice, well, it didn't taste like I remembered, not good. Oh well, I still have Lanikai Gril, I hope.

I walked into this restaurant and immediately my eyes were overwhelmed with colors. The walls are painted obnoxiously bright yellow, orange and red. The booths are a bright and bold red that is reminiscent of late 80's early 90's decor. The menu is one of those old ones, with half the backlights burned out. It's definitely an eye-sore to say the least. I ordered a hawaiian bbq chicken meal. I received a small serving of rice and macaroni salad, and LITERALLY ENOUGH CHICKEN TO FEED A SMALL ARMY. I appreciate trying to give me a lot of food for my money, but also the meager serving of rice to the 4 pounds of chicken is ridiculous. The chicken was nicely flavored, but had a LOT of skin still on it. I picked through the 75 pieces in my meal, and each one had a ton of skin still on. It's not a deal breaker, but I don't like having to pull skin out of each bite I take. Maybe this is an authentic thing for Hawaiian food, I don't know. Service was normal. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't amazing either. The cashiers/chefs didn't go out of their way to do anything incredible, but I wasn't expecting it and didn't mind that it wasn't something they did. What you see is what you get and that's totally fine. I left L&L feeling sorry for myself and feeling like I just ate enough chicken to feed half of Provo. It was mildly tasty, but mostly disappointing and my eyes still hurt from the color scheme of the place.

I used to LOVE this place.. Not sure what happened if they had an ownership change but in the last few years it keeps getting worse and worse. The girls you have working at the counter are horrible. Some of the rudest people ever!! They act like I'm ruining their day by ordering food. Hello isn't this your freaking job?!? 3+ years ago this place used to be packed all day long now it's a ghost town it's really sad to see a yummy place go under so badly :(

I wasn't going to review this place, because it's L&L and I thought I'd give them a break, but after tasting the food, I had to. First off, when this location first opened 10(?) years ago, they were great. The employees were Polynesians, there was always local music playing, it was busy, and the food was awesome. There were always flyers up with news on the latest Poly events in the area. It felt like a little piece of home. Things have definitely gone downhill since then. So I hadn't been here for at least 5 years, in large part because I moved out of state and because my Poly mama frequents some other places. But now I've moved back and my mom no longer lives in the valley buying me food all the time. Today I was craving saimin. I didn't want to make it myself and I had been up in Salt Lake all day, so I decided I'd just get some from L&L on my way back into town. My husband was not in the mood for plate lunch, but he wanted to let me choose. I walked in to place my order to go at 8:15, 45 minutes before they closed. I ordered a fried shrimp saimin, a cheeseburger for my husband, and then a BBQ mix plate thinking it'd be nice to have a little tonight and have leftovers tomorrow (the servings are huge). I paid for my order and sat down to wait. Five minutes later they told me they were out of saimin. Whaaaaaaaaat?! That was the only reason we came. I told them so and then asked, "I guess you'll just refund it then?" The girl at the counter said no and to order something else, to which I responded, "No, I can't." That was the only thing I had really wanted and I wasn't going to get something else just to make them feel better. The girl turned around said something to the cook who came and helped her refund the saimin. He gave some explanation about how they had run out and with yesterday being a holiday...I didn't follow, but he was very kind. They finished up my food and I left and that's when I thought I wasn't going to write a review. But then I got home. My husband's cheeseburger had no cheese, the shortrib tasted like the marinade had way too much shoyu in it, and the teri beef was way overcooked and tough. I needed some water to get it down. My mom is a full Samoan, raised in Hawaii, and we even lived on Oahu for four years. I grew up eating this food. And tonight, this was not it. Come on, L&L. You're a CHAIN. Please get it together. In the meantime, Ohana Grill in North Springville has always delivered the goods, but they close at 8 p.m.

I've tried this restaurant a few times, and each time im disappointed. The Mac salad is always runny, rice is very sticky, and meet is bland. The only thing I have enjoyed is the bbq chicken, other than that not to much of a wow factor with this restaurant. Service is decent, not great but passable.

Tastes true to hawaian food in my opinion but I wish they could offer real poke and rice. Though I guess it is Utah.

Kalua pork...spam musubi...and mac salad will always be some of my favorite foods. Being born and raised in Hawaii though has me wishing L&L Provo kept it more authentic...as in employing staff familiar with the culture that is Hawaiian food. I need some Aloha smiles with my side of rice...not salsa picante.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! well now that i got that out of the way... this place will forever be dubbed, THE DEATHSTAR,, why might you ask? I walked up to it and thought "hmmmm that looks like a small moon (an interesting place)" as i walked in i realized, "thats not a moon... thats a space station (omg I HAVE TO LEAVE)" But i couldnt... it just kept sucking me. I looked at the menu and i was like... this isnt for me. I ordered the 3 meat platter and a scoop of macaroni salad... unbeknownst to me... the freaking meal comes WITH macaroni salad... DEAR WORKER... you should know your mac salad sucks and that NO ONE would want a second serving of it. The food was.... mehhh at best. The beef was decent everything else scared me. My stomach hurts right now... whatever that means. DEAR YELP CHILDREN dont be like me... dont get sucked in to spending 10 dollars on... mehhh food. wanna know how bad i feel right now? bad enough to go to taco bell to take the taste out of my mouth... thats right, taco bell. THE VERDICT: Please for all that is mighty and holy to you... don't go here, there are so many other places. I regret not heeding the reviews advice. Please I beg you not to go. Just trying to save you some money... and a BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH moment. (that an ironic laugh)

To got the half and half plate with beef and Teri chicken. The Mac salad was gross, the rice was pasty, the chicken didn't have much flavor and had really gross skin still attached.

  • Jerraine D.

Tried it a few times. But I think I've had enough. The mac salad has always been awful (so I have been asking for no mac salad for a while). The rice is always too wet and sticky. The bed of cabbage is always awfully HUGE. The beef is dry and doesn't have enough flavor. The kalbi the other day was covered with bone shards. There are way better Hawaii food around town and in Springville. Next!

I love L&L, but this specific location is the worst I've had. Rice is always too watery. Ruins it for me because I love rice. So the fact that they can't even make it right is frustrating. When ordering the BBQ mix (short rib, beef and chicken) it's never proportionate. They give me 1 tiny short rib, 2 small beef pieces, then TONS of chicken. Not that I don't like a lot of chicken but I buy the mix for a reason. If they could balance it out like they should, it'd be better.. Wait time is usually very long. Last time I went I waited 20+ min with only one other person who ordered. After they've given me about 3 consecutive unsatisfying meals, I NEVER go to this location. West Valley location is WAY WAY better.

I love this place. I order the 1/2 Chicken katsu and 1/2 BBQ chicken every time and am yet to be disappointed. People seem to complain about the rice, but who in the world goes here to order Hawaiian BBQ and complains that there's too much meat and not enough rice?? Don't come if you're expecting a beautifully decorated sit down Hawaiian restaurant. Do as i do and come here when you're hungry for some delicious food and you will not be let down.

I've eaten at L&L's in Hawaii and California and this is by far the worst! The reason is the very prevalent in a lot of other reviews as well. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! First off,... first impression The first thing that hits me as soon as I walk in the door is very loud LATIN music. Immediately changes the feel right out the gate as I thought I was walking into a Hawaiian restaurant. The dining area was pretty dirty for the place being completely empty & right before the dinner rush(1630 hrs) Second,... At the counter As I am Hawaiian, I'm already familiar with the items on the menu so I didn't really have any questions.so I was ready to order pretty quickly. I waited for literally 5 minutes for someone to come out from the back. And when she did,she acknowledged me and said I'll be with you in a min.she then proceeds to continue with her conversation she was holding with another employee and also went to the back again.by the time she got back to the counter,we had been waiting there for 12 mins.(my wife at some point started a timer on her phone.so it could have been longer than 12 mins) As I begin to order, she keeps Rollin her eyes and sighing as if she didn't want to be there and I was an inconvenience to her. Third,... The food(and the wait to get it) I ordered 3 plates, manapua, and 2 drinks. It took 25 mins. to get it. While I was waiting 4 more people came in to order and all got their orders before I did.when I asked why,she said," there was a mix up in the tickets". I asked how considering I was the first person in there and the place was empty when my order was turned in. She then replied with,"I don't know". I demanded my money back and left. Conclusion,... The food is OK for fast food kanaka food.to me though,... There are a few other Polynesian restaurants in town that are much better with much better service. I would recommend going to those than this l&l.

Amazing Hawaiian food!!! Any negative reviews must be from competitors because this place doesn't disappoint!!! Hands down the best around and very affordable.

First time here (lunch) so I asked the counter girl for suggestions. She picked the most expensive item on the menu. She could see I didn't want that but offered no help whatsoever. Ordered a chicken katsu bowl out of desperation. Very disappointed.

Not impressed with this place...suprise! I felt the food was 'meh' and the service was similarly 'meh.' We went here as Sweets was closed due to unfortunate circumstances earlier that day. First off the place was not clean. It didn't seem to be very busy, only one or two tables occupied, but the floor was a sticky mess. We did appreciate the outdoor seating. Especially since we were a raucous group :) Second, their combo menu seemed to be fully infiltrated by beef/chicken or both. I asked it the one combo with fish and beef could have another fish substituted for the beef. They laughed. Really? Laugh? Not cool. At least be helpful, suggest some alternative. Finally, the food just wasn't great. The shrimp I ended up ordering was yummy, but the rice was bland and overcooked and the macaroni salad was sparse and similarly bland. I could have made both much better in my own kitchen. Eating out needs to be worth it. Sorry, folks.

I love Hawaiian barbecue and if that's what you are looking for I recommend here! The customer service may not be as friendly but the food can cover the not so friendly workers. It reminded me of the one I went to in Hawaii, which is exactly the experience I was looking for.

Good food, but not great. The portions are huge, but the service is awful !!!! They could maybe try to be a little bit friendly.

Only made an account on here to leave this review. Used to love this place, now, just as everyone else has said, has the worst customer service I've ever experienced, and the way those 3 female workers prepare the food, just as bad as their attitudes. It had been 25 minutes since we ordered, after 5 or 6 other people came ordered after us and got there food. We asked if it was almost ready and she rolled her eyes and said "yeah she's making it now" and walked away. After all that we finally got our food. Which was the wrong order. Too annoyed to care, I threw away my plate. I doubt the owners will ever read this, but it's for the future customers. Just move along to another place. Unfortunately, the las time I will ever go there again.

I had high hopes of great food when visiting recently but it was the worse food experience I've had in a while. The atmosphere was horrible. The place was dirty; not like the hole-in-the-wall authentic restaurant you dream about but nasty dirty. The people were inattentive, which is usually the case in Provo because the college students who run the town have apparently never understood the meaning of customer service. The food was the worst example of Hawaiian BBQ. Being from Honolulu, and spending more time eating out than I should, I have a pretty good feel for quality food. Maybe it was just this location. If this doesn't sound normal for L&L, please comment so I can try another location.

Maybe the employees at this location, especially the girl taking orders at the front, don't realize that the economy is crap and when someone is spending money on going out for food, they like to feel maybe just a little appreciative of the business. She didn't say one word to us. The guys cooking in the back move like sloths. All I'm asking is that they acknowledge their customers and act like they actually care a little. Maybe they should take a little field trip to the local Cafe Rio and see how Customer Service should be.

I ordered the Chicken Katsu meal. Chicken and Rice were good. Macaroni salad was a little too soggy for me.

Yeah, the customer service is not good, but the food is good. I eat here twice a week. They have poke on Fridays.

i have eaten here numerous times and get the craving for it often. The best two menu items are the BBQ mix and the Chicken Katsu. The meat is cook to beautification and taste epic. The Chicken Katsu is breaded chicken that comes with its own dipping sauce and is quite the experience. Each meal comes with rice and macaroni salad. The macaroni salad is not my favorite but overall party for the mouth buds

I haven't been to an L&L on the mainland (only on Oahu), and since I'm so deprived living in island food less Vancouver , I had to get to L&L in Provo and it DID NOT disappoint. For just over $11 I got a two meat plate with chicken katsu and kalua pork. The portion was big and they filled the to go container (so normal people who can't handle the portion can just close the box and take the rest home) with two big scoops of rice, some good mac salad and the katsu and kalua pork portions were very generous. It was also very, very good and tasty. The kalua pork was moist and flavorful - not salty. And the sauce that came with it that I basically put on everything was really good too. I ate the whole thing and was very full. I'd love to bring L&L to Canada, but I don't know that Canadians would take to it.
