DP's has but two flaws, neither of which is really their fault - their terrific birch beer doesn 't come in diet, and they are too far from the tristate area to get Amoroso rolls. The buns they use are a good substitute tho, and hold up to the pressure (which is vital). For the first time, i tried a cheesesteak with Cheez Whiz. What a revelation. It was actually excellent - not just good, but better than provolone!! (At least, on a cheesesteak - i doubt I'll be substituting Whiz for real cheese on anything else.) The Whiz melts thoroughly and smoothly fills the whole sandwich, while provolone just sits on top. Also that gross Whiz "flavor" accent is gone - not sure whether this is because the Whiz is mixed so well with the other ingredients, or just because it was hot. Anyway it's as good as any cheesesteak I've had outside the tristate. Who would have thunk Provo would step up to the bar ? Also they have chips with Old Bay seasoning. What could be better?

Best sandwitches in the area!!! I go all the time. Love how they are not afraid to pack your sandwitch with steak. You will go away full.

These are pot cooked (boiled) beef (steak) sandwiches like moochies or grinders13. Plenty of meat is given and the bread is flakey and soft, almost right out of the oven. My only problem is I like my cheese steaks grilled. Is that wrong? Price is fair. I always have to ask for double the cheese, onions and bell peppers. Nine inch sandwich is plenty. But for me, by the time I'm eating the second half I notice the beef is salty, and there really isn't any outstanding flavor or sauce. That is the problem I have with boiled (crockpot cooked) cheese steaks. Remember those Charlie's Steak Sandwich franchises, they used to be everywhere.

I get the cheesesteak salads and they're freaking good. Cheese whiz is the bomb which most cheesesteak places around here lack. I loved it.

My husbands favorite place. Seriously yummy stuff. All so good. Generous portions, they are not stingy with their meat and toppings. A tad on the pricey side, but these are hearty, good quality sandwiches. They whip them up quick and are always have friendly service.

Oh wow... Well what to say about DP. I'll start with the pros then move to the cons and then leave my final recommendation. The pros: plenty of steak, perfectly sautéed onion, and excellent cheese. The cons: the steak was boiled and consequently quite dry, not enough cheese that really made the dryness of the meat that much more evident, and finally it cost me almost $12 for the combo meal with drink and cookie. That being said, the food is really good and I definitely think you should try it, just don't blame me if you decide after going that you most likely won't be back. I will say though, if I do go back, I'll get extra cheese for an additional $0.70

Do you like cheese? Do you like steak? okay you can continue reading. This is a very decent sandwich. Emphasis on the very decent. It is by no means not great... but it surely isn't great... its somewhere in the middle... so not great great... I got the cream cheesesteak which was pretty good... but I dont know it was just lacking messiness. That is what i want in a sandwich a blend of so many flavors and things. SOOO of course lavered on the jalapeno sauce, I was hoping it would be better than moochies... it wasn't. The jalapeno sauce definitely enhance the sandwich experience, but it still was a little bland there was no kick in the flavor department but the cream cheese was definitely a must. THE VERDICT: Is it worth trying if you never have? i would say yes... but the name promises exactly what you think, only cheesesteak. So you better like cheesesteak and you better like them a lot... at least the level of like a 7th grader . Because if not its just ehhh. Didn't even talk about price... because that would make you less likely to try it once.

Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and give this place 5-stars. The food is always fresh and quite delicious. I would highly recommend getting a cup of the jalapeño sauce to put on your sandwich. Whenever I've been the workers have been friendly and they have been quite fast.

The food. The food is so good. You can't go wrong with meat and cheese and a delicious brand of birch beer to go with. The added Philadelphia cultural feel is a big plus. Also, the staff is super friendly and there is plenty of seating for big groups. For steak and cheese you can't do better, especially not at their low price. Make sure to get their homemade sugar cookies. They're like a dollar and they're amazing.

I have to say, I've tried a lot of cheesesteaks from all over the United States and DP Cheesesteak has to be one of the top, even here in little ole Provo. Their service is quick. They use the right amount of seasoning (not too peppery) and the meat is cooked just right. Also, there's a lot of different varieties to choose from. Are you still love coming here when I was doing my protein diet because I could get a Philly cheese steak with cheese and mushrooms hold the bread. It was wrapped in lettuce! Now, I'm a sucker for a really good cheesesteak and if I get a hankering, this is the first place I come. Also, I'm not big soda fan, but there's just something about their Birch Beer that keeps me coming back for more. (Think of Birch Beer like a robust, flavorful Root Beer.) If I had any complaints, it would be price, but then again, I'm always complaining about price. This place is actually on par with other cheesesteak eateries.

Uh-mazing!!! Meaty. Cheesy. Delicious. I ordered the Mushroom Pepper Steak after asking the girl behind the counter for a recommendation. The soft, dense bread held up to my aggressive eating. I was pleasantly surprised as I am just passing through from CA on a road trip to WY. What a gem this place is. A must stop for all traveling foodies.

  • Jeremy L.

Have heard people rave about how this place is better than moochies so I decided to give it a shot. For a fair comparison i got the Original with no onions as i do at moochies. DP has a solid cheesesteak and I would certainly buy one again but I'm gonna have to stick to moochies being the better of the 2.

Go here if you want to take your taste buds on a magic carpet ride. For real though, this is not only the best sandwich I've ever had, it is the best piece of food I've ever put in my mouth. Get the whiz steak with extra whiz.

I lived near Philadelphia for 13 years. These steak sandwiches are the carbon copies of authentic east coast sandwiches. Make sure to tell them you want one "wit, wiz" and watch them look at you like you are speaking a foreign language. This place is the closest you will find to original philly steak sandwiches. Go there and try this place out. They gave more than one location in the area. Also make sure to try their birch beer. This is caffeine free soda, similar to root beer, and only available in PA.

Food comes out hot and fresh, but my sandwiches have been really bland. In this area, I like The Italian Place a lot better. Service was good, they are friendly. Too pricey...I paid $9 for a 6 inch and a drink. Ambience: it's really dark, and you end up smelling like their grill. The tables and chairs outside were dirty and covered in cobwebs. It's an ok spot, but I'm not sure what the hype is all about.

Solid, mostly, but unspectacular. This is my second visit to one of these places and although I found the rendition here to be better, though much sloppier and wetter going with the Cheese Whiz rather than Provolone, it was not much better. Maybe something has slipped in the years, but I can't imagine Rod having a sandwich like mine and then glowing about it as he did in his review. I had a puddle on the paper wrapping the sandwich by the end, which was a nuisance, but nothing compared to the sadness of bite after bite of a sandwich, even created and delivered, as it was, by exceedingly kind and friendly staff, that was maybe slightly above average, but not much more. This is the kind of sandwich, in fact, that people who don't know any better call great and heap a ton of other accolades on it. They do use a good cut of meat. That appears to be fairly high quality, but flavor overall is on the phantom side and the overall mush of it gets to be a bit wearing. If I was around one of these places and hungry for a cheese and steak sandwich, I'd probably stop in, but it's no Moochie's or even Joni's. Given that their jalapeno sauce is served cold, in little cups, with a consistency almost like margarine impregnated with little bits and pieces of jalapeno, which falls short compared to those other two in texture and then falls way, way short in terms of flavor, it's hard for me to justify spending the kind of coin they want for a sandwich that strongly suggests the word mediocre at times, which neither of those other two vaunted sandwiches does ever. On the plus side, the staff, particularly the girls here, are awesome. They also have a fine selection of chips to be found nowhere else and they have Coke Zero in a pretty solid mix on the fountain.

I'm from a place in Jersey right outside of philly, and this place is the most authentic I've had out in Utah! I get the original with wiz and no onions and it's amazing. They also have birch beer which is a Philadelphia gem. My hubby and I come here once a week!

    (5)
  • Dale D.

VERY VERY GOOD. Nearly perfect Cheesesteak (the bread is good but could be better). Everything in the place says with onions. I hate onions since they're gasoline to my tastebuds. But they will cook onion free cheesesteaks for me. DP has solid and good food, and ALMOST worth a drive across several cities to get to. Way Way Way better than a subway or some chain. I say give em a whirl. Love the cream cheese options. Wish they would spread em on first. By the way Vitos in Bountiful mentioned way better than DP. NO WAY. Vitos is good, but I like DP better. And I think they pays their taxes where Vitos makes you wonder what game is this dude playing with not touching the money. DP = GO THERE.

  • Joseph R.

Seriously. Delish. Everything about my experience here was beyond fantastic. The bread was perfectly moist and delicious. The staff, comfortable, relatable, and kind. The Birch Beer (Birch. With an r in the middle) was exactly look root beer...but just...a hint...better! It was my first time going there. I got a stamp card, scrumptious food, and a new favorite spot to eat! Love this place. I kinda want them to spread my ashes here when I die.

  • Ryan B.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, one shouldn't expect good cheesteaks outside of Philly, but I had my hopes up when I went to DP. The flavor is only average, the quality is only average, and the price is way too high. It feels like they rush the food out and manufacture it, the meat lacks any flavor that should come with being cooked with onions and peppers. If you want a good cheesesteak in Utah, Vito's in Bountiful is the only place to go.

I really wanted to like the food here more. The place is really nice. I got here like 20 minutes before closing and orders a steak wit 'schrooms. The ambiance here was awesome, the young lady that took my order was very friendly and took care of me quickly. Service was 5 stars. Then I got to get my drink....they have Birch Beer on tap from PA!! Birch Beer, 5 stars!! My sandwich was made very quickly and the young lady that made it was very nice as well. I drove back to my hotel room and sat down to eat. I opened the sandwich, it looked delicious. It smelled delicious. But flavor wise, it ended up being just ok. The meat was a little tough for my taste, and the cheese was kinda globbed together in a ball in the middle of the sandwich. The bread was a winner though. The sandwich got me full, but it just didn't do it for me like some of the other reviews here. If I'm ever in Provo again, I would give them another try, maybe the second time would be a charm.

I got the chicken cheese steak and it really was not the best cheesesteak that I've had. It was pretty basic...

    (3)
  • Brett S.

The cheesesteak was good. I got it "wit" (how they say it in philly when with whiz). Juicy, good flavor, and not a bad roll. It's worth a try!

    (3)
  • Steven M.

Their sandwiches are somewhat bland, but still okay. I'm going to try a regular food item next time

    (2)
  • Jon B.

After reading other reviews I can tell you either hate this place or love it. This may not technically be the best cheesesteak place in the world, but I've never been the Philadelphia so I have nothing there to compare it to. I've had some other local cheesesteaks though and DP's is one of my favorite. Good flavor and reasonable prices. Much better than a lot of other restaurants in the area. Good place for a casual and filling lunch.

    (4)
  • Aaron B.

This is the best cheesesteak I've ever had. They suggested that I try my cheesesteak with Cheese Whiz like they make them in Philly. WOW! Moving forward, Cheese Whiz is the only way to go for me. I will definitely return. No bland sandwich here. The Birch Beer is delicious BTW.

I've been coming here for awhile now. Garlic steak with cream chz and add franks. You won't want anything else. Except birch beer

Very good! Would take all my friends there. Try the original, or the garlic and you won't be disappointed.

Ron Paul approves of DP cheesesteaks. Its an awesome place to get a quick lunch.

  • Emily S.

This was my second time visiting, and I've got to say, I think it might be my last. After last time, I decided to choose a classic cheesesteak instead of the garlic cheesesteak. Surprisingly, this time it fell flat. The taste was okay, but nothing to rave about, and honestly it wasn't worth the price. I think next time I will just make some cheesesteaks on my own instead of coming back.

    (2)
  • Jennifer M.

Hands down the worst cheesesteak I ever had.... Nothing like a Philly cheesesteak! I know because I was born and raised in South Philly!

  • Rica M.

My boyfriend and I tried this out on a whim once and we fell in love with how delicious these steak sandwiches could be!! I love the garlic steak and the peppers. He's a fan of the regular with as much meat as he can get haha. I love the drinks too. So authentic and nice.

POSITIVES: The food was great, and I'm not even a huge fan of cheese steak sandwiches. The prices were reasonable. The service was decently quick. NEGATIVES: The lady at the counter seemed a little impatient. The place was small, and not best for dining in. PRICE: $6-9 RECOMMENDED: Traditional, cream cheese steak, garlic steak, whiz stea

My friends have been telling me this is the best cheesesteaks in Utah for a while, so I finally decided to take my wife. I got the pepper and mushroom steak with cheese wiz and she got the garlic mushroom with chicken. To say that the steak was delicious would be doing it a disservice. I downed the entire large in a matter of minutes. Not because I was that hungry, but because it wad that good. I could have gone for another, but I was too full. The chicken steak had such a great garlic flavor that I wanted one of those for myself in addition to what I already had. I can't wait to go back and try something new from the menu. The prices are great and the food even better. The staff is friendly. The guy at the counter even got my obscure movie references. Everyone should give this place a shot!

  • David L.

I love the cheesesteaks here! My favorite is the hot pepper steak. Also a must try is their rootbeer. Definitely the best cheesesteak in Utah county.

  • Scott W.

This is THE best cheese steak I've had in Utah; hands down! The meat is always fresh, the toppings are hot, the bread is deliciously fresh. I always order mine extra wet, and am never disappointed. My favorites are the Mushroom Steak and the Garlic Steak. I've been going to the Provo store since it opened and have yet to have any food that is less than excellent. The service is always excellent, and the crew smiles every time I visit.

Delicious Food, came in expecting mediocre and was phenomenal!!

  • Rod S.

A very good rendition of the Philly cheesesteak. I've been a fan of the American Fork location since it opened. However, it's awkward to get to for me. I just learned of the opening of the Provo location. It's pretty much a clone of the place. They make a very good cheese wit. As all others mention, it's just not quite the same without the Amoroso roll. Normally, it's the traditional steak, onions and whiz. Today was the first time I've ventured to the other steaks. The one with Jalapenos and pepperoncini is really good. Although I'm not a big Birch beer and Tastykake fan, it's nice to see them here. I keep my eye open for other place doing a good cheesesteak. I've got a several more to hit. So far, this is the best.

    (4)
  • Laurie B.

A little plain, but I only tried the traditional cheesesteak (since I had never tried a philly cheesesteak before in my life). The rest of the menu looked varied, the cashier was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. I'll definitely be going back!

    (4)
  • Russ A.

Perhaps I got a bad sandwich or something but I wasn't impressed in the least with this place. I got the hot pepper steak sandwich which was okay but nothing I'd tell others to run out and get. The place was clean and the employee's were very nice but in the end the cheesesteak just didn't deliver. Sorry DP Cheesesteaks!

DP Cheesesteaks in Provo is the fourth local of those locally owned and operated chain. I'm a big fan of DP Cheesesteaks and since I was in the area I stopped by this location for lunch last Tuesday. I ordered my usual, a traditional steak and cheese with provolone and grilled onions. My cheesesteak with served up fast with lots of meat and cheese on a great fresh bun. The sandwich was good but unfortunately the meat seemed just a little dry, like it had been overcooked some. Since this location recently opened I'll give them the benefit of a doubt and pass this off as new cooks still learning the ropes. The friend I was with had never eaten a cheesesteak before and LOVED his sandwich. Overall we had a great experience and I would definitely go back--for delicious cheesesteaks DP Cheesesteaks is the BEST around--seriously!

  • Jason B.

Real chopped ribeye, slathered in cheese whiz, and slopped onto a tasty chewy bread. And that is just the basics. One could swap out the whiz for a lesser cheese. One could get peppers, mushrooms, marinara ... a variety of additions. My lunch was good, and only marred bu the onions that I specified asked to avoid. In the end, they were cooked to the point that they caused no detectable halitosis, but it's the principle. I'll go back, and when I do I shall enunciate my no onion request.

  • Skip C.

This place is awesome! I was there one night and wanted some soda water so they unhooked the Sprite line just so I could fill up my drink even thought they didn't really offer it. Eat here.

    (5)
  • Nick W.

5 stars just for the whiz steak. It was delicious. As far as I know, it is the best cheesesteak in Provo. Also, if you like soda, I recommend the birch beer. They sell bottles of it but I always get it from the soda fountain so I can have an infinite amount of it.

  • Andrew S.

Really good Cheesesteaks. I had the cheery peper cheesesteak.

    (4)
  • Vincent I.

My friend from Philly says these are comparable to anything you can get in Philly. The sandwiches are amazing! I go at least every other week and love it every time. Their whiz steaks are just unreal! The only critique I have is you can tell a difference in the sandwiches depending on which cook is working each day. They are always great but some days it is just extra extra good (Friday around 1pm is when I go and that cook is awesome)

    (5)
  • Ethan F.

Super great cheesesteak! I came here for the first time the other day and fell in love. I was a little hesitant to try the cheese whiz but after I did I realized there is no other way to go! Great service, great food!

I love the taste of the steak. I just had the garlic steak.. It was amazing. The workers are super nice and very friendly.

  • Celina A.

So glad to find another cheese-steak restaurant in Provo! I think next time I would build my own. My husband got the hot pepper and you lost a lot of the gooey goodness with all those banana peepers. The Cherry pepper cheese-steak was really spicy & delicious.

  • Jon O.

I really enjoy cheesesteaks and always try to find a good one wherever I go. Up until I found DP I hadn't eaten a good one in Utah. Let me tell you, this is by far the best cheesesteak I have ever eaten. Not only are the ingredients great, but I feel that the common shortfall of a good cheesesteak is less than delicious bread. This place has it just right; perfectly dense and chewy. I also find myself not only craving their sandwiches but also the birch beer, which I had never even heard of before eating here. The location is a little drab and this kept me from trying the place for a while, but now I'm really glad I finally did.

  • Mark W.

Discovering DP Cheesesteaks has saved me a trip to Philly. I love these cheesesteaks. The thing I like best about this place is that they are not stingy with the meat. They really pile it on and the bread, oh my gosh, best bread I'v had since I moved to Utah. I love the fried onions and the cheese and peppers. I could eat here everyday. Prices are good too.

    (5)
  • Bryce B.

I don't know cheesesteaks, but I don know bread, and this bread happened to be the perfect density. Some bread deflates when you bite into it, other bread is more like a bagel. Not the bread on these sandwiches - This bread is perfect. I ordered the 6 inch traditional cheesesteak and it was very filling. A coworker of mine ordered the 9 inch traditional and it was too much for him to finish in one sitting (and he's an ex-army guy... not exactly small). Like I said, I am not a cheesesteak expert. I don't know if I could spot a "great" cheesesteak if I saw one in the wild. What I do know is that this was a pretty good sandwich.

    (4)
  • Andrew B.

My wife and I decided to go largely because of its great reviews on yelp. It was as good as advertised. My wife got the traditional steak and I got the cherry pepper steak. We both agreed that they were the best sandwiches of their kind in Provo. They gave lots of meat and the bread was excellent. And the birch beer was a perfect way to wash it all down. We'll definitely be going back.

  • Casey J.

Love this place. Best cheesesteak in Utah County.
