Sakura Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

This is pretty decent sushi, it's just not great. There are a ton of other places (all pretty close to here) that are much more worth your time. This place gets it done, and then happy hour on Saturday is a steal, so that's super nice, but yeah. Just not phenomenal.

The worst part about this place is the awful customer service. Our waiter, Will, came to our table willingly ONCE. He came two other times when we had to flag him or call him over. We waited 30 minutes to get food, and had water filled once when we called him over. He was absolutely impersonal. The sushi was also sub-par, average, and not worth the cost. The best part was the kind couple next to us, who also were experiencing the same difficulties with their waiter, who commiserated with us. I would not recommend this place. Even the atmosphere and design is less than. Not worth it, at all.

I can't possibly understand why people give Sakura bad reviews. As someone from Hawaii and well traveled I've had sushi in many states and other countries. Sakura makes good Americanized sushi and the cost is reasonable. Obviously making sushi takes time and you might have to wait a minute but remember. It is handmade!!! I think going to a sushi restaurant you should always expect it to take a while. I've eaten at Sakura at least 20 times and love their sushi and their prices! After moving to CA and then NV and AZ... I haven't found a comparable place at a similar cost. Definitely not finding $21 all you can eat sushi in HI. Haha.

I'm not sure why this place has such awful reviews, because with my last experience I don't think they deserve it. I didn't want to drive all the way out for Tepanayaki a few nights ago, so I decided to stop by Sakura to see if it was even open. From the looks of the outside, I couldn't even tell if it was open or not. Fortunately for me, it was, and I was seated right away. It was one of the greatest hibachi grill experiences I have ever had. Our Chef was hilarious, and i'm pretty hard to amuse. The food was some of the best I have ever had from this type of restaurant, and the portion sizes were huge. Typically at tepanyaki, you don't really get that much meat. I got the filet, and was not disappointed. The fried rice was cooked perfectly - between all of the plates we ordered, the only thing I wouldn't recommend on that particular night was the chicken. It was a little dry. Aside from that, everything tasted perfect. Even down to the grilled vegetables and sauce. I was not disappointed, and I will certainly be going back. As for the all you can eat sushi on the lunch hour, and various rolls offered at dinner, I didn't order any of that so I have no comment. If you go to an all you can eat sushi restaurant and expect incredible sushi, you probably are going to be super happy. If you are looking for genuinely good entertainment and good hibachi grilled food, give Sakura at least one chance. Super friendly staff - waiter kept my water full at all times and I drink a liter with every meal almost haha. Prices were exactly as I would expect, and more than fair for the performance that was given and the amount of food I received. I definitely will be going back.

I ate at Sakura a few years ago and it was very good. We decided to go again for a friends birthday. When we arrived, the grounds and building were in need of maintenance. It was bad enough that for a second I thought they went out of business. We ate at the grill and our entire party of 5 thought everything was was very salty. It seemed the Teriyaki sauce may have been the culprit. For $220, I was disappointed. On a good note, the staff was attentive and friendly.

You can tell how good a restaurant is by how crowded it is sometimes this place is really quite crowded so took a while to get her order the food was Good. Actually it was quite good for an all-you-can-eat sushi place so I would suggest going there a little bit earlier in the day here at Waze long and the sushi may not seem as old that way if you want I can do sushi this is a good place to go. Pretty good sushi for all you could eat. A little heavy on rice. I have been here before and will probably come here again mostly because there are not a lot of good sushi places around. One of my biggest pet peas about temperature is what it taste cold or chewy and doesn't seem to have just been cooked fresh. That it happened here too

Our waitress and chef were attentive but we had to ask for refills a few times. Fresh food--steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops, sushi, vegetables, fried rice, salad with ginger dressing and miso soup. Even though we weren't there near closing time, no one asked if we wanted dessert. This has happened at the past several restaurants I've been to. I hate feeling rushed.

We decided to come here because of the Starving Student discount card, buy one get one free. We were told to wait 20 minutes for a grill table. We waited an hour. The food was good enough, but the grill cook wasn't even close to as good as other places i've been. When we got the checks, we were told that we could only use the student discount card once per visit, even though the card says it can be used 5 times and makes no mention about once per visit. I went to talk to the manager about this problem. I didn't expect my money back or anything, I just wanted to let him know. I don't usually write reviews online, preferring to tell the manager in person what they should improve. I'm writing this now because the manager was rude, abrasive, interrupted me every time i spoke, and made endless excuses for the bad service. I will NOT be going back.

Honestly best sushi I've had in Utah. All you can eat is totally worth it. For those saying it's too expensive, well what do you expect. It's SUSHI! And $20 for all you can eat is a great price. I come here twice a month and never once disappointed in their sushi. I will recommend this to any sushi lover. Gotta try the Futomaki and Geisha!

I came in and had the all you can eat lunch sushi and it was acceptable. It didn't blow my mind and there are definitely better sushi joints in the area but if you are looking for a safe pic, Sakura will probably do. One thing that I really didn't like was their tempura style sushi rolls... they did them different than most places that I have seen and they didn't taste great. They were always battered with some kind of yellow mix and almost tasted doughy.

We decided to come here because we wanted our out-of-state guest to enjoy a fire ball, onion ring chimney, spatula throwing, egg juggling show. But it appears that the cooks don't give much of a show at lunch time. Bummer. We sat at the grill and got chicken & salmon and shrimp & salmon, Vegas roll, red dragon roll, and sides of fried rice and fried noodles. The bill added up to $61.41. We were NOT impressed by the food especially for the amount we paid. I keep drilling myself to not be too critical of the Japanese restaurants in Utah as they NEVER can live up to true authentic Japanese eating places with access to fresh ingredients. But after eating here I feel nauseous because of the overly salted foods and I feel I wasted a good amount of money. I even silently wished I went to the burger joint close to home instead. All the grill foods were very salty, covered in sauce, and not worth the money. The sushi was OK. Not great but still OK. We still tipped because apparently if you don't you get labeled as the greedy ungrateful guest who took advantage of the waiter. 2 stars just because I didn't mind the sushi.

The rolls here are great especially if you like rice. Sitting at the bar will get you a lot quicker service than at a table. If you're really hungry the all you can eat is a great deal - $20. Saturday afternoons are even cheaper. If you're going to get more than 2 or three rolls its worth it.

  • Amy B.

Really greasy and bloated tempura. Felt queasy by the end of the meal. Sushi was fishy as if the salmon was a bit old. Gyoza was pretty lame. Get better dumplings from the freezer aisle at smiths (which aren't great to begin with). Service was subpar. I want so badly for local restaurants to do well but sometimes they just seem too far down the hole to be helped. Sad day. :( we didn't finish our meal it was just too unpleasant and I am belching and queasy for the ride home. Not exactly what we were going for on our date night.

If you want a semblance of good service, I strongly recommend NEVER COMING TO SAKURA. Let me put it this way. I went with three friends. We all got the all you can eat sushi. I ordered two rolls. TWO ROLLS. We had to talk to the manager after about half an hour of sitting around (meanwhile, two of us are getting accurate orders) for me to even get the two rolls I ordered. Our tickets got "misplaced." The staff was very rude to us when we complained, and when we (surprise!) didn't want to pay for their terrible service the manager was awful to us. Biggest waste of money ever. I almost wanted to cry by the time we left. It was THAT bad. They almost made me cry. REAL TEARS OF FRUSTRATION. This place is terrible. I'm never going back and you shouldn't waste your money there. Go somewhere else for sushi. I've always had good luck at Kyoto in Provo and Wild Ginger in Provo. Save yourself while you still can. Run far, far away from Sakura.

FOUND A FISH CARCASS IN MY SUSHI. And this happened after about 2 hours of waiting for our food. After I complained about it to the waiter, they offered a 10% discount... !!! And then we asked to see the manager and the waiter came back reporting that the manager said "he was too busy". Wow. Well they lost my business for sure. I've never written a bad review before but I felt I had to just for my pride.

  • Jeff N.

Stay away. Far away. Thay are very skimpy with their sushi. Had to go give the sushi chef a hard time about how small the sushi pieces were compared to the ball of rice they call a roll. Horrible. Go elsewhere.

I've been here numerous times for sushi and have had different experiences each time. First of all, sit at the bar not the table. You'll be able to place your orders directly to the chefs which cuts down on wait time plus, you have the best view of the television...if you're into sports. Second, you gotta get the All-You-Can-Eat LUNCH deal for $15 Mondays-Fridays, WHAT A STEAL! Everyone keeps harping on this because they don't know what "All-You-Can-Eat" means but basically, you must finish the rice or else they'll charge the original price for leftovers. This is printed in bold at the very top of every menu so that people don't waste food. Don't be a food waster! Third, you gotta try the Hawaiian Roll & Firecracker! From there, go ahead and explore their large selection of sushi rolls...it's just $15! CONS: Food inconsistencies (had to send food back once due to old tempura), new chefs (I loved the previous guys), slow/unhelpful service at times but all in all, a great establishment with delicious food. I recently flew from Seattle to eat here...I have a problem

Beware the "all you can eat". Ordered a few different rolls for my wife to try, before I ordered them though I asked the waiter if that would be okay to order a couple extra rolls but not finish them, he went and asked his manager, came back and said that was fine, come bill time charged me per roll instead of the all you can eat price because I didn't finish. After a small argument between the waiter, myself and the owner, we stuck around for about 30 min until I had enough room in my stomach and ate the 5 pieces that were left so I wouldn't have to pay almost double in price what the "all you can eat" price is. The Sushi itself didn't taste that good to begin with, I should have read the reviews before coming here. I would have saved myself a lot of trouble. I have found that I like Yamato and Shoga 1,000 times more than Sakura. They aren't all you can eat but serve good quality sushi for about the same price as Sakura does. Save yourself the pain and misery of dealing with this place.

Most of the reviews on here are for sushi. But I come here for the grill! It is sooo good if you get the ichiban special. But we went here for new years and it was extremely under staffed. The manager forgot to write our name down for us to be seated. Why is the manager the host in the first place? Idk. Well it was delicious and the service was as good as it could be for being short staffed. We normally have great service here. News to Tepanyaki: Lots of people eat out on New Years Eve. Staff accordingly!

  • Marriner M.

Some of the creative rolls are good wile most are below average. Way too much rice...they get you full really quick. The chef choice/chef special roll is my favorite. Nigiri is way to thin of slice to get taste with exception of the red snapper...that was really really good. Service was poor one trip and ok the other so its all a hit or miss. If you dont mind eating next to BYU sushi noobs and being served by a dorky return missionary then your all set. Ill find my sushi elsewhere for now.

The service here makes me want to shoot someone but I can't stop going because their sushi really is delicious. I'd say it's a step below Happy Sumo. My favorite roll: Big Sumo!

We went for the all-you-can-eat sushi. Really good! Not the best sushi I've ever had but delicious non the less. I'll be going back for sure!

  • Jason D.

Sakua is a decent japanese steakhouse, but they also have a sushi buffet..... I'm not a huge fan of all-you-can-eat sushi. It usually means that they can't make one good item to sell by itself so they bundle it together to make it more appetizing. If I were to recommend an all-you-can-eat-sushi restaurant I would recommend Sushi-Ya. If you want the best sushi in Orem/Provo go to Shoga. The sushi at this place isn't bad.... it's decent. The reason I gave this place 2 stars is more due to the service, or lack thereof.

    (2)
  • Higgs B.

Wow. Ive not been here for a long time and the next time I go will be umm approx. never. No tobiko on any roll, even though the menu said that the roll came with it. Totally uninspired and boring. The tempura breading was so thick it looked like a corn dog. The best word I can think of is insipid. Dont go.

    (1)
  • Asher M.

The all you can eat sushi is a joke. The salmon nigiri tasted like rubber and any roll we got that had fish on the top had such small strips of fish that they might as well not have bothered. Too much rice, not well staffed and over priced for what you get. Also there are no changing tables in the bathrooms for kids. Save your money and go elsewhere.

  • Cole D.

0 stars... food tasted like a school cafeteria attempt at Japanese food. Our waitress may have been high, she dropped the wasabi, and then picked it up and put it back on the plate. Many guests left because they were never seated, or even acknowledged. When it was time for the bill, she first came out with incorrect bills, and said "this is effing ridiculous" and stormed back into the back, and brought out papers for us to write down what we ordered. Also she chose to give us nicknames... mine was "blue shirt". Horrible.

  • Alexa D.

For what few dollars you save it's not worth it. Go to teppanyaki instead. The show is carless and half assed the service is well below standard, and food is simply terrible. The veggies are bad and NEVER get the tsukiyaki beef. They serve you thin garbage cuts of beef that look like the wet food I give my dog, and burn it with minimal flavor. Save your money panda express tastes better than this garbage.

    (1)
  • Scott A.

Well... it's ok. Chefs are not consistent with their food or their acts. The waitress goes through the motions but she didn't seem to really care. Last time we were really disappointed with the noodles. We didn't like the sauce used.. not all chefs seem to use the same sauce.

    (3)
  • Bruce B.

I am giving them an extra 1/2 star for their tentativeness . The food was a 3 1/2 star. Having liquor and all you can eat sushi wins this a place to visit. Did not try the "grill" side so I can't speak to that. In summary I have had way better sushi but I have also had way worse.

Worst sushi ever....fish seemed old. I can not believe this place is still in business.

    (1)

It's a surprise that this place is still in business. The food, the service, the quality that you get for the $ you pay is a big mistake. Close your eyes and pick anywhere else, still better than this.

Never ever never coming back. Ever horrible food. All Their sushi taste the same. over priced. Bland. Sushi Ya is 10000 times better. I wish i could give this place 0 stars

  • Dan M.

Wow. I cannot believe the negative reviews here. I have been to Sakura a dozen or so times in the past year and I have never had a bad experience. Their sushi is well made, though I agree that it takes its sweet time getting to your table. But that just gives you time to anticipate it. Too much rice? Are you serious? Also not knowing what a tempura roll is? Come one people. Your inexperience with sushi or just not reading the menu is YOUR fault. Paying for rolls you don't finish? Standard at AYCE sushi places. That way you don't order a ton of rolls and leave with them. I've had a few pieces left on a couple occasions and none of the servers have charged me for them. My advice would be to get the tempura rolls you want early, and save the regular rolls for the later rounds. Also, don't bother with nigiri. Nigiri is only good using freshly caught fish, and guess what? YOU'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY. The fish quality just can't be as good as the coasts simply because of the location. Sakura stands head and shoulders above ALL other sushi joints in Orem/Provo. I've tried them all and Sakura is the only one I keep coming back to.

    (4)
  • Rudy W.

yea, yea I know its a mid west. don't expect much for a sushi. true, the rice was half cook, and it was cold rice. the tempura was mushy (been sitting far too long) I don't care much about quantity, so when they ask do I want all you can eat. I simply say, NO thanks. 1 roll definitely enough to tell me to get out. I ordered their signature (futomaki) .. skip this place and find other sushi restaurant.

i really don't like to give bad reviews often, unless a business really deserves it. so let me preface that there were good and bad things about my experience tonight at sakura. this was the first time i had ever been here, as the appearance of the restaurant is not enticing from the outside (signage is messy and needs fixing/replacing, building looks bland). now, that's not stopped me before. but...i had never had anyone recommend this place to me which is where i usually get the desire to try a place out. so, how about we start with the bad. bad: 1) sushi was sort of meh. reviews seem semi-mixed about the sushi here. i must, say it is not the worst sushi i have ever had. it was just not amazing. i got the tempura shrimp one, which had eel sauce on it. my issue with it was that the tempura seemed too soft to be fresh. like they made it way earlier in the day (or even another day) and just plopped it in. also, they put too much eel sauce on it. it was sort of drenched, so it overpowered the other flavors in the sushi. i like sauce on things, but i am a light dipper. i saw that they do all-you-can-eat sushi, but i don't know that i would come here to do that. 2) we got the teppanyaki entree, too, tonight. the one issue i had with the entree was that there was not enough vegetables with my meal. not many people would complain about that, but i like to eat a good helping of veggies each day and have been to a few teppanyaki places in my life that i sort of was hoping there would have been more veggies (especially ones with lots of color). 3) salad had way too much dressing on it. it was almost as if someone just added salad to the dressing. also, the miso soup was a little sad. it was super clear, which i've never seen of a miso soup. i guess it's not terrible. i just expected some cloudiness to it. 4) teppanyaki chef was one of the most unenthused guys i've seen. i think he tried, but there was a certain element of awkwardness to it. also, our waitress (plus most of the other workers there) seemed really unhappy. i've been a waitress and worked in food service more than a few times, so i know it's not always fun. however, you do have to show some glimmer of happiness if you expect to make a proper wage. just a thought. here's the good: 1) my sukiyaki entree was pretty delicious. nicely cooked. tender and flavorful. 2) veggies(that i did get) were cooked really well. tender, but still had a nice crispness to it showing that it was not overcooked. 3) prices were decent. we did come here tonight, because we got a buy one get one free skweeze coupon for teppanyaki and sushi, so we got a super great deal. overall, this place was okay. i don't know that i'd come here again. we only will be here another month anyway, so i think i'd prefer to go to some of my other haunts before we leave. as far as referring people...i just say hmmmmm...

There are no half star options, but I was leaning towards 2.3 rather than a 2.8, hence the 2 stars. This place isn't horrible, but: 1) Service is bad. Our waitress didn't really try to - well be a waitress. You know, the part where they serve you and take your orders without feeling like you're wasting their time? Or where they give suggestions of what to order? Or you know, not making you feel like you need to make their job easier rather than them giving you a pleasant dining experience? 2) If you're going for the authentic feel, forget it. It's a very westernized restaurant, another Benihana-esque restaurant basically. 3) Price? Not too expensive, but for the quality of food - meh. They do have all you can eat sushi, which is nice, but I have my suspicions that the sushi chef use molds to shape the sushi. That just seems...cheap. Their tamago is horrible, don't even think of trying it. The fish was alright, didn't seem unfresh to me, but also didn't taste well. Their wasabi I found to be rather bland as well as another reviewer mentioned. Would I return? Perhaps. All you can eat sushi is nice, but it's not my favourite place to get sushi in the area. None of their sushi really inspired me to try them out.

Recently had the all-you-can-eat sushi lunch special. I'd been here a long time ago for teppanyaki and had a good experience, so I figured there was no harm in heading back. Service wasn't that great. We waited quite a while before anyone acknowledged our presence and seated us. The lunch sushi menu is alright, but not great, and filled with warnings that you have to eat everything you order. (I'm aware this is standard for all-you-can-eat deals, but Sakura is very in your face about it.) Our waitress said we were lucky to be there on a day when "boss man" wasn't preparing the sushi because "he makes it with tons of rice." Nonetheless, when our order arrived, it was lots of rice and very little fish. I'll be sticking with Sushi Ya, which has better service, a better menu, and better sushi for only a little more.

Sakura is by far my favorite sushi place in Utah County. They have a great variety and the fish is mostly always fresh. There have been a few times when the fish wasn't super fresh, but rarely. The sea bass nigiri, snow white roll, and Hawaiian roll are my favorite. All you can eat sushi is fun to do. The miso soup is delicious and I love their house dressing.

  • Winst D.

Speaking specifically about the "sushi" side of the restaurant... It was not good. Plain and simple. It wasn't so bad that I'd send it back or leave the restaurant, but I'm never going back here and i would never recommend it to someone. I ordered the sashimi platter and a side order of unagi nigiri. The sashimi was paltry, and smelled fishy - which means it's not that fresh. Even the wasabi was bland! Oh and how do you f-up steamed rice??? When you don't have that much left and you don't want to make a fresh batch for the last customer of the night, that's how. There's no worse combination than crappy food at a "premium" price. I probably wouldn't be angry if they charged me 7.95 for the sashimi, but when my bill comes out to 30 bucks, you better deliver.

I read some of the reviews on here and I would have to agree that the restaurant is fairly Americanized, but guess what this is America so who cares. One of the best all you can eat sushi places around, people like to compare it to Sushi-Ya that is down the street but I wouldn't put them at the same table. Sakura is far more clean and the sushi is much better. My favorite rolls are the Sakura and the Utah. If you are going for all you can eat, I recommend going at dinner. Its a little bit more expensive but you get a lot more rolls to choose from. I have no second thoughts on referring friends and family here because its good, reasonably priced, and cleaner that some of the other all you can eat sushi places.

Update: In my original review I gave this place three stars. I've lowered the rating to one star after going there on March 22, 2012 with my son and his wife. Gave the all-you-can-eat sushi a try. First mistake was accepting my son's invitation to go. They have the worst sushi I've had in Utah County. I even lowered my expectations! The fish slices on the nigiri sushi are paper thin so you're eating a ball of rice with a sliver of fish. The ultimate test for me is how well, or how badly in this case, they make their futomaki. It was horrible. There's weren't any recognizable ingredients in the futomaki. The service was also horrible. My son is a waiter and he usually gives servers the benefit of the doubt but he gave the server a tip in the 5-10% range, as did I. As of now, I am never returning to this place. ------------------------------------------ This is my original review from 2007. Decided to try this place the other night. I ordered the steak and scallops which came out very nicely. The steak was rare and tender. However, my wife ordered the chicken and shrimp. Chicken breast is tough and dry if it's over-cooked and unfortunately, that's the way it ended up on my wife's plate. I notified the waiter and he was at a loss as to what to do. I usually don't try these types of restaurants but thought, "why not?", when some friends suggested it. So if I average out my wife's order (two stars) and my order (4 stars), I'll give this place three stars. Would I go back? Probably not. Having food cooked in front of me has never impressed me. Maybe that's the jaded (snobby?) San Franciscan in me, but, oh, well. If you've never had this type of food/entertainment before, you should try it at least once.

Great fresh sushi and amazing food. The miso soup and salad are wonderful. I have not eaten the hibachi grill but have seen lots of people come in, and they seem to enjoy themselves. The grill gets amaIng service but sometimes the sushi area is forgotten, keep the waiter coming back and you will be happy.
