Glancing at the other reviews, ...please if you can't spell Bibimbap, don't comment on its authenticity! What an awesome staff :) I prefer my Bulgogi (and all of my Korean food) a little more spicy. Not so sweet. The tofu soup was awesome and the Banchan calmed the craving but the Kimchi needs to grab your attention a little more. Soooo... the fifth star would be there but, understandably, the cafe needs to reach the masses in order to survive. I say when in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in Cafe Seoul, eat food that will bring on a good sweat. Still, awesome staff and great food.

I love bi bim bop. I was visiting the area and this is all I had at cafe seoul so that's the only thing I'm rating. The meat was less flavorful and more chewy than usual, and the whole dish was not very flavorful. It's a storefront and the proprietor is a lovely woman, but I was expecting more from the 4 star rated establishment.

Truly amazing home Korean cooking. The Daen-jang Jjigae is all made from scratch, no store bought daen-jang. The bulgogi was fantastic, great marinate. It's a very small place, truly Ma and Pa style cafe. I would definitely go again, friendly owners and really good food. Right in front of the University of Utah Murray campus.

It's a small place, but very welcoming. Home grown and the owner is incredibly kind and sweet. She's quick to greet and happy to help order you some great Korean food. And the food is great and reasonably priced. And when I say reasonably - it's better than (won't name other Korean places) but both of them are expensive. I spent about $28 (included tax and tip) - had a main meal, soup, and some sides of kimchi, potato, cucumber and bean sprouts. I even have left overs for work today. Now, I eat out quite a bit and so do my friends. We've tried all of the Korean foods in Utah and we really like this one. It's a small quiet hole in the wall (so-to-speak), but I'm the kind of person that loves great food and kind service. I'll be coming back very soon and showing off my new favorite place to a few new friends.

Great food and a really sweet owner who makes you feel like your visiting your grandmother with a home cooked meal.

Very good food and service. It's like eating in someone's home. Highly recommended. Sooni the owner couldn't be sweeter

I definitely agree this place gives you great value. Everything is below $10, and everything we tried had an incredible flavor. As others have said, service is top notch and the owner will not leave you hanging for a glass of water. Would definitely hit this joint up again, and must seriously recommend the sweet and spicy pork!

Finally, a Korean restaurant with great food and reasonable prices! After trying two other places in Salt Lake and coming away terribly disappointed, I was please to find Cafe Seoul. Great food, great service and great prices! This is my go-to for great Korean food and absolutely friendly service.

MMMMM! I love this place. The kalbi here is absolutely delicious! It melts in your mouth. The bulgogi is awesome too. The prices are very reasonable, around 10-12 dollars for quite a bit of food! The owner of the restaurant is adorable and incredibly sweet! She cooks and waits on the tables all by herself. I don't know how she does it! Oh and the kimchee is very good, tastes like you're in Korea! Best Korean in town, will definitely be a regular here :)

This is why I'm totally getting into Yelp. I would have never known about this darling Korean restaurant was in my neighborhood I it wasn't for the Yelp app! The pint-sized restaurant was ultra-clean and very cute! Staff was friendly and the food was pretty good. I had the ramen with kimchi and edamame and was more than satisfied! My husband ordered the cheese tonkatsu and devoured it, along with a side of potstickers. (I'm saving that fourth star for when the food knocks my socks off!) Our meal was only $22 with a tip - totally reasonable. We will surely be eating here a lot. I can't wait.

I work in the area so I thought I'd give this place a try. I got a spicy tuna and a Philly roll knowing full well that half off sushi is never a truly good thing. The service was fine, very nice folks at the register. Upon opening the takeout container though, I was hit in the face with an overwhelming rice vinegar smell. Whoa! I tried it and was totally disappointed but not surprised. The rice was over seasoned to the point of being mushy. The salmon smelled a bit in the philly roll and the spicy tuna was more sauce than tuna by a long shot. For $6, I can't say I expected more but this place could use a lesson in sushi making, or skip sushi altogether.

I'm a little snooty when it comes to Korean food -- I have family in Korea, I'm accustomed to excellent west-coast Korean cuisine. I provide this info not to make myself sound super sophisticated, but just so you know that I'm not giving it a good rating based on novelty. I found myself trapped in the office park near this restaurant and looking for a good lunch place, and gave Cafe Seoul a try. I was in every way pleasantly surprised. My friend and I had the pork bulgogi, kimchi bokkeumbap, and split a maki roll of some sort. All of their sushi is permanently marked as 50% off, so unless you're a total sucker, you'll realize that they serve very cheap sushi rolls. Again, it wasn't gourmet, but it was actually really quite delicious. The bokkeumbap was a bit soggy for my tastes, and was the worst thing we ordered, but still tasty enough for me to eat most of it. And the bulgogi was actually pretty damn good -- lots of bulgogi (especially at this kind of hole-in-the-wall place) tends to be way over-sweet, but this had a more balanced flavor and a nice bite to it when my friend ordered it spicy. The banchan included pretty decent kimchi (naturally), bean sprouts, pickled radishes of some kind, and potatoes in some kind of dark sauce. They were all good, if not remarkable. The service was attentive and polite, so no complaints there. The decor is nice, the place is clean, and there's the requisite K-Pop playing in the background. If I actually worked around here, I'd eat at this place all the time for lunch.

Being Korean, I have had my fair share of the cuisine. The food is truly a crime. It is easily the worst korean food I have ever had. Everything is sweet. Way too sweet. The seafood was not fresh. The meat that is traditionally grilled was in stead sautéed in a pan leaving it soggy, tough, and sweet. Truly a major disappointment. I would never go back, nor would I recommend it to anyone. There are better options out there.

This review is for one dish and one dish only and that is the Beef Bulgogi. I thought it was delicious. It wasn't the best I've had nor are you able to grill it yourself at your table a la certain establishments (none in Utah, mind you), but I'm definitely a fan. The sides that come with the dish were fantastic. And although you only get four sides to the usual 6-12 at other places, each was fantastic. The four were kimchi, marinated sprouts, marinated potatoes, and something that resembled Asian coleslaw. All in all the food was quite good. Not only that, the service is much quicker and the prices are much less than Myung Ga. This has definitely become my go-to Bulgogi place for lunch.

I love their soon tofu and bibimbap. It is nice to have a Korean take out without sit down restaurant price.

I wish I could give this place a 3.5 . I spent a whole week intensive course at the university of utah murray campus which was in the same complex as this restaurant . I've was here about 4 years ago and the place was different, they told me its a different owner. I was glad . The old lady was very nice and cute but the food was not. Enough of the history. While I was there, there were 2 different girls that waitressed there on different days of the week. They were both nice and sweet but if it was busy then they were rushed and slow. I mean, it's a family own place with one chef and one waitress so I understand. When they are not too busy they took care of you well. I had their tofu soup 2 different time , one time with beef the other time with seafood . I don't recommend the seafood . They're you're typical package mixture seafood and they give you a small amount of it. The beef was good though. I eat korean food a lot so I would say it was comparable to myunga . I give it 4/5 . I had the beef bulgogi as well . The flavor was good , it was your typical bulgogi . I had their salmon nigiri and it was good . Their rice was cooked right and the salmon had more fat than I expected . I like the fatty salmon but a lot of people would've had a problem with it. I personally like things with fat on it . I also got the bu doki ? I think that's what it was called . It was rice cake in spicy sauce with fish cake . In the menu it said it would have veggie . When it came out it didn't and when I asked they said they have been leaving it out for a long time because people would never eat the veggie. I was disappointed because it said it did on the menu so I was expecting it. I suggest taking that part of the menu so there's no more confusion . Other than that I believe it was pretty authentic. The fish cake could be cut a little thicker but it tasted like what bu doki should taste. I had their gyoza , it was good. I can't complain. It's decent place if you're in the area and want korean food. I recommend trying it once if you're taking classes at the murray campus. It's literally next door. Personally I don't see myself coming back but unless I have to take another class at the murray campus. I had a nice experience with them during that one week. They almost feel like family .

A solid four stars from me, but it comes with a word of caution: Sooni is retiring. In fact (and unbeknownst to me) today was her last day. Sooni has been the heart and soul of the joint (no pun intended) since she started the cafe and hung with it while it was located in the panaderia across town. As I understand it, the menu is sticking around, the restaurant isn't going anywhere, but there is a new owner coming in to run the place. A Korean fellow, and she's hopeful he will be even better than here. This merits investigation, as our current Korean scene has yet to really explode as we've seen happen in other cities across this U.S. of A. As for my meal today, I had the bi bim bap, and it was hearty. Plenty of food for 7 or 8 bucks, and I especially liked the pickled goodies. I wish the egg had been a bit runnier, but that's just a personal preference as I love to pierce it and spread the yolk all over the rice. Big ups to Mike H who went out of his comfort zone and even agreed to have Korean food today, and bigger ups to him for ordering the bulgogi. He ate every bit of it, and whether that was for my benefit or he actually enjoyed it, this guy has historically been a picky eater so I can only assume the latter. The space is simple and a little hard to find. Commerce is aka 320 W and turns into 300 W. Go north off of 53rd and look for the University Of Utah sign. Turn in there (west side of the street) and find this place on the east-facing wall of the building. A nice, quick, cheap (depending on the order--short ribs, bulgogi, and meaty items run $13+) options when you want something different.

I really LOVE this place because it feel like you are home but your mom is a Korean lady and makes some really good Korean home cooking. The lady (cooking and serving) opened the restaurant for fun because she enjoying cooking. She is really nice and let you try out some random cooking she just made. Everytime I go there, I tried out different dishes; Bi Bim Bap, Korean short ribs, and Choon Chu Dak Kalbi. And all of them are really delicious, especially the Korean short ribs. My boyfriend (butthead and unadventurous), in another hand, he always has the Korean BBQ Chicken. Too good and too stubborn to try anything else. The Korea side dishes: her kimichi, cucumber and daikon are the best. Not too sour and not too spicy. Just right! PS: Remember only 1 person or 2 people cooking and serving, expect slowness when it is busy. Also it opens on Sunday!!!!! One more thing, it is pretty cheap too.

We came here because our usual Korean spot was too busy. I have to say this place is pretty good. Both my boys ate most of their food. That means they liked it. The service was also good. Price was decent. I'm straight forward when it comes to leaving reviews. I really don't have anything bad for a first time customer. I live in Murray, so I'll definitely come back.

I have only ever ordered the bolgogi! Sooni made it best. She has such a great personality and really cared about the customer. She was amazing with my kids. I did eat there after she retired and the prices went up. Was not pleased about that so I haven't returned. It is not affordable for my whole famiIy to eat there. I would however like to go back and try the sushi. I don't believe they offered that before.

I like good Korean food. Actually the food here is not bad. But the problem is the service. I ate there today at lunch time. I ordered a staple, bibimbop. It took over an hour to get the food! At lunch? Finally, my wife said, "If I don't get my food with 10 minutes, we are leaving!" Well, about five minutes later food started showing up. But by that time, we were running late and we had to wolf down, not really enjoying, the food. I told the waitress, we were running late and I needed the check. She casually serves other customers drinks, brings out a couple of meals but not my check. Finally I go to counter. The waitress is getting another drink for a customer from the coke machine, no urgency shown with respect to me paying. Then, after I give her my card to pay, the credit card machine is out of paper and she doesn't know where to look for it. I am running very tight on time so I give her cash. As I am leaving, she has the machine running, calls me back, gives me the cash back and has me sign a credit card receipt, thereby delaying us further!. Needless to say, I missed my appointment time. I am never eating here again.

Three maybe four stars depending on the day. Small intimate ethnic deli-style building with a diverse array if korean dishes. my favorite thing about Cafe Seoul is the lack of presentation from a lot of other korean places around town. To me there's home cooked korean food and then there's 'restaurant' food. Cafe Seoul is all about the first category for me, the food is spicier and the menu trends more towards traditional stir frys and entrees than the soon tofu bulgogi combos and bibimbap that populate most korean menus. Taking all of this into consideration meals can be hit or miss, and some friends just don't love it like I do.

Tried new things including the fermenting cabbage aka Kim chi. Loved it! I will be coming back. Everytime I crave any type of oriental BBQ because this is the best the orient has to offer. Authentic and tasty and fast service!

It was a train wreck. The bulkogi tasted like it was rancid. After a complaint, they brought out a plate of Kalbi drenched in some uber-sweet teriyaki sauce which didnt taste Korean at all. The kimchi chigae was subpar.... too much chicken broth taste and not enough kimchi taste The bibimpap was OK. It was the first and last time I'll eat here. It sounds like the place is on the culinary skids after the departure of its former owner.

I adore the owner of this place, she is the same owner of the Cafe Seoul that was located in the same space as a Panaderia near Century 16. She's very kind, open, and treats you like you're one of her children. Another great thing about Cafe Seoul is that it's very affordable with a majority of the entrees being under $10. That being said, it really kills me because I think I have too high of expectations for Korean food. I ordered the soon dubu, and found myself less than satisfied. There's something about the broth that just wasn't what I was looking for. So far Myung Ga has the best soondubu around town, so maybe I was comparing it to them too much. I also tried my boyfriend's order of the galbi, but I also found the flavor was lacking, and she had explained that it hadn't marinated as long as it normally does. Maybe it was because we came for dinner instead of the lunch rush, but I just was underwhelmed. In the meantime, I'm still waiting for a 5 star korean place in salt lake.

Apparently, everyone loves this place, and it's easy to see why. The food was delicious and the hostess/owner/cook was fantastic. Not only did I leave feeling well fed, but also satisfied, happy, and eager to return. I heard about Café Seoul from a friend (shout out to John: Hey!). He met me there for lunch, and I felt like a guest of honor when Sooni (who also happens to be John's mom) met us behind the counter and came out to greet us. I thought I was getting special treatment, until I read reviews on Urban Spoon and realized that Sooni treats every customer like they are a special guest. Check out these comments from Urban Spoon: --"We were greeted by Sooni, the owner and chef of the place. We told her that it was our fist time eating Korean food and she said, "don't worry, I will tell you what most people order the first time." She walked us through the menu[...]" --"The owner and chef is so kind and generous you can't help but enjoy your visit." --"Sooni is the best a wonderful host that cooks fantastic Korean food...." --"The food was great, but you're gonna love Sooni even more!" Add me to the list of true believers. The food was great, so let's talk about it. To be sure, I've not had a lot of Korean in my day. I was surprisingly pleased, though, with what Café Seoul offered. At John's suggestion I ordered dahk galbi, Sooni's specialty. Apparently, most people-strike that-most westerners order the bulkogi, a sliced and marinated beef dish. This was a variation on that, but with chicken. It was impressive. Sweet and tender, I realized that the heaping portion was gone before I stopped to notice how much I was eating. Sprinkled with sesame seeds and accompanied by a bowl of steamed rice, it made for an excellent and lean lunch meal. Sooni provided side dishes of kimchi and turnip kimchi and explained that she made them a little lighter than typical, primarily because western tastes tend to prefer it. There were also small bowls of bean spouts, cucumbers, and cooked potatoes to garnish the dahk galbi. Rounding out the meal were several slices of orange to cleanse the palate. Found in an office park close to IHC's main campus in Murray, the restaurant had plenty of parking and is well situated for lunch if you're at IHC's medical center in Murray. Again, the service is stellar and the food is fantastic. I recommend it fully.

Pretty sure Sooni may have sold the restaurant not for sure but last time i went in most of sooni's personal belongings that she normally left there we gone and a new waitress/cook was running the store. Anyway the food quality is no longer any good. We ordered the deji bulgogi, bbq chicken, and soon dubu. Deji bulgogi tasted weird...im not sure how else to explain it. The bbq chicken im pretty sure was drenched in some type of american bbq sauce and the soon dubu was bland. Its definitely not the cafe seoul that sooni left behind and every other korean restaurant in the SLC area (pretty sure i have tried them all) is better.

I really want to give this place more stores, but I just cant. So, I give this place a lot of credit since it's one women doing everything. The grilled pork, bulkgogi sandwich, and duk boki wasn't bad. Our group also order the chicken wings thinking it would be Korean chicken wings that are double fried, glaze, and spiced, but no it was like your normal Costco chicken wings that you buy frozen. My biggest gripe with this place was with my soon du bu. There are other places that make it better like Korea House and even a lil more Americanize place It's Tofu. The one cool thing is that there are veggies in it. What was so bad, you might be thinking??? Well, it was the fact that there was a fruit fly or some type of bug that was in my bowl. That's not the worst part. It was the fact that she tried to deny it. First, when I tried to show her, she said it was a piece of pepper and took out a container of pepper and showed it to me. I dont think a piece of pepper has wings and legs and an elongated body. Then she tried to say, we don't have bugs here. There's a hood over the stove which sucks up stuff so there's no bugs. Later, she said we dont have bugs; that might be a fruit fly or something that was on one of the fruits. She then took it in her hands and tried to look at it and freaking squished it and further tried to say we dont have bugs here. Our table was like yea, after you tried to like squish it. A fruit fly, if that's what it was is still a bug and if it came from your place or a fruit that was at your place: THE BUG CAME FROM YOUR PLACE. She did try to make it better by saying when you come back ill make it for you for free. I don't think I"ll be coming back. My biggest problem was the initial denial and trying to prove us wrong. We know what a bug looks like. I think she thought we were trying to get a free meal or something. Totally not the case.

What a great surprise. I happened to see this place in an office plaza, and decided to give a try. The Korean BBQ beef was very good, and the staff was very friendly.

I first started coming here when it was on 3300 South and I had run into Sooni at the Park Cafe one morning while we were eating breakfast there. She was at the table and had struck up a conversation with us and handed us a business card on her way out. She wanted us to try her place. Try it we did and it was OK. Not fabulous and not great. She is what made the place wonderful. Such a great personality. I followed her down to 4500 Southish and made my way in a few time to eat and say hello. Again, the food not so great, but the conversation was. The last time I was there it appeared to be under new ownership. I didn't know she was leaving, but she did. The food is still not so great and the conversation, the reason for coming, was gone. Too bad.

To my Yelp friends... I need help here. This is a small, hole-in-the-wall joint that cannot handle getting really popular without me never being able to get a seat here again... So I am telling you in semi-private. Best Korean in town. Bar none. She makes her own Kimchee (not just the cabbage, all of it, from scratch), she is amazingly funny, nice, and generous with portions, info, advise, and time. I love it here. Try the Kalbi, Bulgogi, Bi Bim Bop, chicken salad... all of it. Prob. best Korean in Utah. It's like being in your mom's kitchen... if your mom was Korean, and you had a bit of a hard time understanding her.

The 4 stars is an average between the 5 star service & 3 star food! I'd definitely come back to visit the amazing Waitress/Chef and moreso when I have a korean food craving! Food Linda V, Ngoc V, Evelyn T, and I tried: Complimentary vegetable tempura! It was taking a little while for the Chef to get us our food since she's the only staff-member, so she gave us a whole plate of mixed vegetable tempura! It was really good! :) Bi bim bap. I didn't personally like this that much because there wasn't that much veggies/meat and too much rice for my preference. I also didn't like that the egg was well-done. I've become used to ordering bi bim bap yolky, but if you like your bi bim bap more homemade-like, you'l like it! :] Kalbi & Bulkogi (half-half). We ordered Bulkogi, but they didnt have enough, so we ordered Kalbi and the chef threw in whatever she had left of bulkogi. It was really nice of her, and it was super good! I really enjoyed it. Duk boki. It was spicy and sweet. I tried a little bit of it and really enjoyed it! Haven't had duk boki more than a handful of times, so I don't want to say it's super good/not. There are tons of sides that the waitress/chef kept offering to refill! She's super nice like I said already! She's also very funny and we found her dancing with my niece Evelyn T the entire time. She even gave her M&M's and made sure to keep everyone entertain. +1 Star: Intimate and small. +1 Star: Amazing, friendly service! +1 Star: You don't have to worry about not finding the workers because you see the kitchen while you're eating! +1 Star: They open late! You should call beforehand though just to double check that they won't close early! :) -1 Star: They are understaffed, so I can imagine really slow service when there's more than two parties. It's not the best korean food I've had, but it could be amazing for UT--I'm from OC, which is the home of amazing food, so it's really hard to find something to that level!
