I was in Salt Lake for business and made two visits to O P H. There is no better breakfast place. I brought in a large group of 12 each time. O P H didn't even flinch. They quickly were able to seat us. Monday the breakfast burrito with bacon. Excellent. It comes with potatoes and pancakes. There was no way I could finish the burrito. I saved room and had the pancakes. They are sweet and so very light. Probably the best you will find. Wednesday the eggs benedict. This is actually a reasonable size and not too overwhelming. It too was wonderful. I would have preferred a thick Canadian style slice versus the thin deli sliced ham. It too comes with pancakes and potatoes. You can upgrade your pancakes to chocolate chip or macadamia nut and other varieties for small charge. Blueberry and other syrups are available on request. The orange juice is fresh squeezed and good. Vanessa was the reason we all enjoyed breakfast. She was so attentive and has such a wonderful smile. She made everyone feel so comfortable as if we were having breakfast in her house. O P H you are lucky to have Vanessa. Even after just one visit she recalled drink preferences and breakfast choices. She is a reason people go back.

They opened a second Utah location at a demised Texan BBQ joint in the Fort Union area. Just like their other location in Sugar House, it seems to be always packed here as well. The wait is probably not as bad as when they first opened with more breakfast joints opening up in the area. Parking can be very limited with most of the shops opened in the strip mall. The menu was the same as their other location, and their pancakes are always awesome here. They made a very nice Happy Face for the kids here. I had the special burrito last time, and it was just slightly spicy, but the spices were on the bitter side. Hash brown was ok. The dishes other got seem decent. Eggs and pancakes were definitely their strength. Original Pancake House was a fresh addition to the breakfast scene in the Midvale area, since most place carter to older folks in the area. Service was very attentive even when they were very busy.

The Original Pancake House has not only fresh, high quality food, but the portions are very generous. Each part of my meal was surprisingly good. I left feeling very satisfied.

OPH is delicious! It's usually pretty crowded in the mornings, so if you go on a Saturday, expect a wait. I most always get the Dutch Baby which is a huge german pancake that comes with powdered sugar, lemons, butter and syrup. The service is a little slower than other places, mostly due to the fact that it's so popular and crowded. Even during non-peak hours it's still pretty busy. Another location is expected to be open on state and 11400 south (sandy) in January 2015!

This is one of my favorite brunch restaurant and I am so happy that they opened a new location closer to where I live! We use to go to the Sugarhouse location for the Breakfast burrito. It is pure goodness of creamy, cheesy, and meat! Now the new location is just good as the Sugarhouse one! The French toast is definitely always fluffy and moist! How many exclamation marks can I put in one review! The service is always great! The manager will check with every table to see how is everyone doing! Also try their veggie crepes! Negative: Their food is on the heavy side. The southwest omelet doesn't have much veggie as expected. So far so good! I guess I am just too excited to write this review!

I ate here a few times before and the food was good, however this time I was very disappointed from the quality. The eggs were the cheap kind, the Canadian bacon was dry and tasteless, the hash brown were greasy and under cocked. The blueberry pancake were not tasty at all. With an all American breakfast all you need are fresh quality ingredients to make it good, obviously all they care about is maximizing profit and not about serving quality food. Never coming back that for sure.

Let me preface by saying there was a problem with my food when my order came out- however, I don't want to linger on it because it was magnificently handled. Our waitress was very sweet and put in a new order for me and once my new plate came out, the manager came to see me, apologized and didn't charge me for the food. My chocolate chip pancakes were delicious! Next time, I'll think I'll try the egg white omelette that my friend ordered- it looked yummy. Also, I love the interior it's very modern but still "homey". We will be back!

This is my FAVORITE breakfast place. The wait is usually long, but worth it. Service is always great, and I have yet to be unimpressed with my order. Eggs Benedict, Fruit french toast, Bacon waffles-yes you read that right-all are amazing. Dutch Baby is a wait, but well worth it-unless you're hangry. Then you should pass until you aren't anymore.

The food is amazing! And I absolutely was in love with the fresh fruit pancakes. I would recommend the breakfast to anyone. But my friend got his order messed up and the manager said "well what do you want me to do about it?" So he asked for a replacement. The management handled it poorly. They took away all of his food they brought out and when the right order was ready they brought it out in a to-go box without any of the sides. ...hopefully that doesn't happen to you. Because he food was phenomenal.

The food was delicious! Their menu had a lot of options to choose from, normally I don't like a lot of options to choose from but they were all creative and new breakfast options that I really liked. The first time I came here the service wasn't that great, but the second time I came, not only was the food great but the service was excellent.

Food was good. Good pancakes but not the best I have ever had. Quick service and good service on a busy day. Doesn't seat very many people.

Great place for kids. They eat free with an adult meal. It's better and cheaper than any fast food. I love the strawberry pancakes!

Great food! I got the California omelette with the banana pancakes and it was really good. The omelette was a good 3 inches thick I was surprised with how big it was. Also the service was great.

Food is amazing.... When you can actually get a table. Lived in CH for almost a year now, and have only been able to be seated once out of 7 attempts. I'm screaming for them to take my money, but time is worth money. Left when they stated it would take a minimum of 45 minutes to seat me. The one time I was seated I waited a half hour. Simply too small to accommodate its costumer base

I have given them two stars because the times we have gone into the restaurant were great. But we have gotten to go orders recently and they completely fail. They always forget something. Get something wrong or miss something. I even had them repeat back to me what I ordered this time and she said it all right. But yet again they fail. I got the California Benedict with ham not bacon. Upgraded my pancakes to white chocolate macadamia and asked for strawberry syrup. My husband came home and they had put bacon on the Benedict so they tried to fix it but then I was missing a whole egg. The second English muffin was literally just ham. They forgot my breakfast potatoes and they didn't upgrade my pancakes, he was charged and sent home with a whole order of those pancakes. And that strawberry syrup? He is running back there now because they forgot it. Really! I am so disappointed we recommend this place often but now how can I trust sending anyone there and I just don't know how I feel about going back either. They have yet to fix it or make their mistakes better. Ugh

Very good experience! Our waiter (Jesus) was very attentive and made excellent recommendations. I also found it extra-amusing when my daughter prayed and thanked "Jesus" for her food. :D I had the breakfast burrito with bacon and chili verde sauce. It was a generous size and I took half of it home. It was served with a side of pancakes which Jesus suggested I upgrade to their special of the day - blueberry, coconut, and white chocolate chip with coconut syrup. The pancakes were amazing! I would come back again just for those! The only downside is that this place is only open til 2pm during the week and 3pm on the weekend. Other than that, I would recommend it highly!

Come early on Sundays. Place gets packed quick because their pancakes kind of kick ass. The bacon is pretty awesome as well.

This place has terrible service, 2nd time I've been here and both times we had our food brought out after people that sat down after us. Told manager about this and he said okay and never came back or said anything and food still took 20 more minutes to come out, I can get over the first time having issues coming here, but then to have basically the exact same thing happen again shows me lack of management quality and concern for customers.

  • Topher M.

I love this restaurant for the oven cooked, fluffy omelettes and incredible pancakes. All of the pancakes are great but I recommend upgrading to the pecan or bacon pancakes. As for time, be prepared to wait a half hour or more for the omelettes as the restaurant is very busy and it takes at least 20 minutes to cook the omelette plates alone. That being said, the manager sped things up for me when I chose this place as my last meal before leaving for my honeymoon 1 hour later.

I was Looking for a good breakfast place before I fly back home and I was recommended this yummy place! The wait it's fast, they greet you as soon as you enter the restaurant. You feel welcome! Their food is bomb.com so yummy gotta love this place! Pancakes are one of kind, original pancakes I should say! They were busy but their customer service is awesome..the people there are very polite super sweet. I give this place 10+ stars and hard workers a good job! And keep them yummy pancakes coming! Delicioso! I'll be coming back to this place!

Freaking Utahans and their love of chains. This place is a joke. A mediocre breakfast with a 35-40 minute wait. I always try things twice to make sure I don't like them. Sorta like certain kinks. But sadly enough my butthole won't be licked a third time here. Avoid and go to IHOP, yeah, its that bad.

We've always been a fan of OPH and tried this location for the first time this weekend. They don't offer call ahead seating like the Sugarhouse location, but you can have a member of your party come first to put your name on the list. For a party of 12, it was about an hour wait. Our server was fantastic! He was spot on with our orders and drinks, and even got us some free crepes to try since we had to wait so long for a table. The food quality is on par with the Sugarhouse location. The space is just a bit smaller but newer. The bathroom was also an improvement from the Sugarhouse location as well. Will be back to this location, hopefully with not as long of a wait this time.

  • Carly D.

We've been going to the Sugar House location for years, and it's one of my favorite breakfast places in SLC. We tried this location for the first time today and decided that Sugar House definitely beats this location. We arrived at about 12:15 and were told it would be a 30 minute wait. We were seated almost 45 minutes later, and then waited 30+ minutes for our food. It wasn't THAT busy to justify that kind of wait for the food. We also felt like the portions were much smaller than the SH location. Overall this place gets a "meh" from me. We'll continue going to the Sugar House location from now on.

This is what a good breakfast should be!! Let me be clear, the Park Cafe is still the best breakfast place in all of the land but The Original Pancake House is a very, very good second. The Original Pancake House moved into the vacant spot where Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse use to be and it is a big step in the right direction, as BBQ joints go Sonny Bryan's just did not measure up, but I digress. The Original Pancake House offers baked omelets which might not sound like a big deal but trust me it is!!!! Maybe I just don't get out to breakfast often enough, or I go for the breakfast skillet on a way to regular of a basis but who knew that baking an omelet could make it so freaking good ................ one of the best omelets that I have ever had. The food is fresh and delicious, the service was fast and very friendly, and the prices are as you would expect ................ what more can you ask for. I really enjoy this place and based on how busy they were on the day that we went, I expect them to be there for a long time. Well done Original Pancake House , well done!!!!! Until next time my fellow Yelpers ........................ Be Local, Live Local, and whenever you can .............. BUY Local!!!

All I wanted was a short stack to go. For $5.30, I walked out with three small, thin, underwhelming buttermilk pancakes. For the price, and from a restaurant called THE ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE, I expected a bit more. Note to the OPC management.. you're in this business to impress and get new customers to come back. Put some heart into your short stack.

My husband and I were driving by Fort Union and saw that today was their grand opening. As we entered the restaurant the number one thing that caught my attention was the decor. Nothing that I've ever seen before. We were told we could sit wherever we wanted, then a young lady greeted us asking if we wanted coffee or freshly squeezed orange juice, I was a little hesitant to order orange juice since most places say "fresh" but isn't really fresh. The server promised me it was squeezed this morning, I'm glad I ordered it because it was delicious. I ordered a Ham and cheese omelette, our server said their omelettes were oven baked and it was going to take about 20 minutes. My husband and I were in no rush, and decided to wait while we talked about all the interesting decor. 12 minutes later our food arrived. This thing was huge, only was able to eat half, but it's okay because I won't have to cook dinner tonight. When we received our check, we also received a 20% off coupon for next time!Definitely will be back this weekend.

The Original Pancake House is by far the best breakfast place in the Salt Lake City area!!! Everything they offer is high quality and high quantity...so you'll leave satisfied with both taste and portion. My wife, myself, and my two kids have been regulars at the pancake house in Salt Lake City (despite a 20 mile drive from our home)--and anytime we travel out of town the Pancake House is a staple--so we were more than pleased when this second Pancake House opened much closer to our home! And truth be told, I love the atmosphere at this location much more than any other location I've been to. It is new, large, and has a semi-modern, casual, and fun atmosphere. As always, the food and service was stellar! You really can't go wrong with this place!!! Enough said!

Came here and got the waffle with fresh fruits and strawberry syrup. It was so good that I have to come back for another one! The waffle was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, the fruits can't get any fresher then this! I would definitely come back to try the Dutch treat but it's gonna be hard not to get the waffle again!

Their breakfast burrito was amazing, got the nuttela crepes along with strawberries and my wife ended up getting their buckwheat pancakes, eggs and potatoes glad to say we tried this breakfast house, I left very happy their server Heather was very welcoming and hospitable give her a raise, I will definitely be back

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The only reason they got one star was because the food was decent (despite my husband finding a pubic hair in his eggs). We arrived at 9:50am on Sunday and were told we had a 45min wait. Our table was under the name "Jeremy", and they gave it to someone else named "Gary". When they were calling out "Gary", we asked if they meant "Jeremy", and they said no. At that point, our 45mins had passed. We waited another 15mins and checked in with them on our wait time, at which point they said "We already seated your table. Though, we were wondering why Gary said he didn't ask for high chairs." (We did, as we had two babies with us). They then said we'd be called for the next available table. We did not get seated until 11:20pm (an hour and a half later; double our told wait time). We were also never apologized to. Next, we were seated. A lady named "Fernanda" was our server (or at least I think that was her name, as it stated it on the receipt. She was blonde with a nose ring). We ordered our drinks, and when she brought it, she forgot our daughter's apple juice, but said she'd bring it right away. She didn't. She then came back to take our order, and forgot it again. She eventually brought it WITH our food. As far as our food, she messed up the order. I asked for the Dutch Baby with fruit ON THE SIDE (as I didn't want it to get soggy from the juices). It came ON TOP. The food was decent, but I've had it MUCH better at other locations around the country. Our bill came to about $30, but we noticed that we were charged for more drinks than we actually had at our table. We were not happy. Our waitress was out of sight, and we just wanted to get out of there, so we didn't fight it (or bother bringing up the nasty pubic hair found in the food. I would have sent it back, but my husband was hungry and didn't want to have to wait any longer for them to remake it). Our daughter did end up breaking one of their glass bowls by accident during our time there, so we figured we'd leave a decent tip. Believe me, the waitress did NOT deserve the $5. I didn't want to leave a tip, and said it can come out of the extra drinks we were charged. But my husband said to just leave it due to the broken dish. Worst location yet. WE WILL NOT BE BACK!!!

We come here almost every weekend now. We've probably been here about 8 times so far and every single time has been a treat. No matter what we order we are happy and the service is outstanding. Thank you so much for opening close to us. We love the experience. I'm also gluten free and the GF pancakes are amazing. There are a ton of options if your GF. You can basically ax anything with gluten and still have an amazing meal. I ordered the special breakfast burrito once and asked for no tortilla. It was yummy!!!

  • Rita Y.

So good! Try and get here earlier as opposed to later because this place fills up quick! Everything I've had here is absolutely delicious, and the staff has been so kind every time we've been here. I think my favorite thing I've had here so far is the Dutch Baby - takes a little while to cook, but so worth it!

This place was alright. The environment is very cute and hip! I got the breakfast burrito and it was pretty good. They give you A LOT of food. I would probably go back but it's not my favorite breakfast spot!

Great food. The wait time was way longer than they originally told us but server was very attentive and food was great.

This place is real good. We had a small wait, upon being seated we were treated to a apple cinnamon German pancake that was excellent. They have fresh squeezed OJ which I love. Their blueberry coconut pancakes are absolutely amazing. Potatoes are average.

The food is ok but since my favorite waitress Nikki was fired for no reason, I have other places I would rather eat!!!

  • Alicia M.

Food is great but serious on the hot chocolate? $1.95 for a cup the size of my thumb! And refills $0.50. I also wish the place was bigger then it is, Saturday mornings are ridiculous!

  • John M.

I came to the pancake house this morning. I didn't know what to expect because they just opened. I was greeted immediately and had my breakfast crepe within 10 minutes. My coffee cup was never empty. I left full and satisfied! Perfect way to start my morning. I am so glad I finally have a good breakfast place close to home.

Very nice place, will go back there soon and more often, I have to go through every item they have on the menu.

  • Cassandra R.

I am in love with this place! It's our go to Sunday breakfast. Me and my boyfriend go here, or order takeout, almost every Sunday. He always gets the breakfast burrito with sausage and ranchero sauce. It's delicious and with a very generous amount of meat. I always try something new, but have never been disappointed. The service has always been great, although it's ALWAYS busy. The only thing that would make it better would be a mimosa with breakfast!

    (5)
  • Kelly A.

One of our favorite places to have weekend brunch. They have great pancakes as well as hasbrowns Also the Dutch baby's are really good! I've heard their breakfast burritos are really good one day I'll get around to trying one.

  • Jber G.

I like this place but every time I eat there I get sick. Not sure what it is but something just doesn't work for me. Two out of 4 people experienced stomach pain and diarrhea each time I've been. Can't do it again.

    (3)
  • Daniel M.

This place was pretty good but the service wasn't great. It was a Sunday morning when I went so I understand, but the main issue I have is that I was told the only seats available were outside but it would be in the shade, good thing too because it was hot! (This was a month or so ago) well, I was definitely not in the shade and was very uncomfortable the whole time, the server didn't check in on us very often and kept forgetting things. The food was pretty good and they definitely give you plenty! All in all it wasn't too bad, but the service prevents that 4th star!

    (3)
  • Ari C.

I wasn't too impressed with the food, though the staff was friendly and fast, and prices were great, I'll likely not be back.

    (3)
  • Laura L.

The food is really good and you get *a lot* of it, but it is like a huge stack of pancakes or an enormous omelette. They don't have much to offer in platters where you can get a bit of everything. (It's there, but not many options compared to the whole menu). Next time we go, we are thinking of ordering family style, agreeing on things and splitting them. That is, if we can get a seat. When we go, we've always had to wait for a seat so I was very, very disappointed to see that the new location is smaller. Yesterday the wait was so long, we went down the street to Landmark Grill and ended up finding out that they have great food and great service so I guess I shouldn't complain.

    (4)
  • Aaron W.

Now folks this is how you run a restaurant, my only complaint is they aren't open for dinner! First off the place is super clean & classy. The staff is first class. It wasn't that long of a wait but they brought us out a free Nutella crepe. This is how you win lifelong customers. It was fantastic & I'm not a typical crepe guy. Best fresh OJ around! I ordered the Joe & wow the portions were HUGE, I had plenty to take home for left-overs. The potatoes are done to perfection! My wife got the pancake special - blueberry coconut white choco chip & it was amazing! Seriously peeps there is no better place for breakfast food in the state!

    (5)
  • Ces D.

We live just across the place and this is now our favorite breakfast place! Love their breakfast potatoes and chocolate chip pancake! And the portions are huge! Wait time is not too bad. Service is nice and quick too.

  • Cham H.

This was my first time coming to Original Pancake House & it was amazing! The food tastes much better than you're average breakfast joint (village inn etc). The service was very helpful & friendly. I will be coming here more often. :P

  • Ryan C.

As a recent transplant from CA its great to see this restaurant. Always a great breakfast. Love the German/Swedish pancakes (Share them with a friend so you can get a side of eggs and hash browns.) OJ is fresh squeezed and the bacon isn't that thin junk at Dennys.

  • Lori D.

When we entered the restaurant they were busy. It took what seemed like several minutes just to be seated. I ordered coffee and my guest ordered tea. Again we waited several minutes for the beverages to arrive. Finally we placed an order. While waiting for the food I was never asked for a coffee refill, in fact as the manager (learned by name tag) Tony D was walking by I asked for a refill and he said yes of course. After a few minutes the food came and again I asked the server for a refill of coffee because the manager never got it. It took several more minutes until someone else was walking table to table with a coffee pot offering refills. My guests plate was cold when it arrived and she also had asked for ketchup twice before I finally got it myself from a neighboring table. I would give it one star but the food was very good. The service was so bad I don't think even the great food would have me come back to this establishment. Too bad because it is much better food and selection than an IHOP.

  • Elizabeth B.

I ordered the fresh fruit pancakes and they were so good! I was half expecting a stingy sprinkle of 5 or 6 pieces of fruit because that has been my experience at most other places, but my pancakes were just buried in a generous pile in raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. At first they seated us outside with the sun beating down and one of the staff noticed my discomfort in my pregnant condition and moved us indoors to a booth, which was very thoughtful considering it was a very busy Saturday morning. My one complaint is that our waitress brought our food out (pancakes and waffles) without the syrup and took another 5 minutes to bring it to us. It was torture staring at our food for that long without being able to start (plus it got a little cold), but we let it go figuring it was a rookie mistake made by an inexperienced waitress at a newly opened restaurant.

  • Alex J.

The Original Pancake House is my favorite place to have breakfast at. I was super excited when they opened this location, it is closer to me that Sugar House. I know that they are known for their pancakes but I love their French toast with fruit. I wish they were open later, I would go there for dinner.

    (5)
  • Laurie T.

It might not be fair to only give 3 stars because it was pretty busy, but a restaurant like this should be prepared for that. After a 30 min. wait (we were told 20) we were seated outside, promised that we would be in the shade. It was upper 80's, and we were in partial shade and still pretty hot. In fact when we got up to leave our pants were wet with sweat. They could definitely use a bigger dining area inside, it's pretty small. Service was pretty good, food was delivered within a decent time frame. I got the White Chocolate Macadamia pancakes and my son got an omelette. Both were good but pretty average. I would probably go back and try something else, but definitely not on a weekend and definitely not sitting outside unless it's 70 degrees.

Good place; quick and friendly service with an established menu of tried and true favorites. I have never seen an omlette done quite like theirs, and it was damn good. Huge and stuffed with tons of meat and cheese, this monster took up 3/4 of my plate. It's more like an omlette calazone; I think they fold it up then finish it in the oven so the outside gets a little crisp and flaky while the inside bursts with ooey gooeyness when pierced. Prices are about what you'd expect, $8-10 for breakfast. Coffee is serviceable. Atmosphere is barnyard meets Crate & Barrel.

I need to quit taking pictures of the California Eggs Benedict, one should be plenty. Food is always great, wish we could get into the new location in Sandy on 114th South but there is a line out the door every time we drive by.

  • P G.

The western omelet was not even an omelet it was a gigantic blob of eggs containing too much cheese and a not so desirable texture. The hash browns also had a strange flavor. The only saving grace were their pancakes. I was very disappointed and will most likely not eat here again.

  • Mark C. J.

I love this place! It's ridiculously close to where I live and I became a regular soon after they opened. They do close early in the afternoon, therefore The Original Pancake House is primarily for breakfast - brunch - lunch. I actually wish they were open 24 hours so that we could all enjoy breakfast for dinner and late night snacking? The house coffee is rich and plentiful, as the servers seem to keep all beverages continually refreshed. In fact I've never had a bad experience with any of the staff, they are all VERY conscientious and ready with helpful suggestions. My favorite menu item is the Dutch Treat which, if I understand correctly, is a sort of baked pancake? It's much like a very fluffy, thick crepe generously plied with fruit, spritzed with berry syrup and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. It's quite filling, even to a big appetite like mine, though they do offer a smaller version for those bouncing kiddies. I certainly look forward to returning quite soon and quite often!

  • Frank M.

Pancakes for the most part are pancakes. They're all pretty good, none of them are horrible. So maybe I'm not the main demographic for this place. But it's clean, it's not IHOP, the servers are kind, and all the food is better than average. Plus it seems like all the breakfast dishes come with a side of pancakes just in case your 9 egg, 3 cheese, 4 meat omelette didn't fill you up. Layer on the syrup, slap on the butter, lets get our heart pumpin' just a little less today.

  • Jen C.

Food was cold. No, I didn't complain, but I just won't go back. I had a French Crepe Combo with scrambled eggs & two slices of bacon. Husband had the Roadhouse Skillet with the eggs sunny side up. Our little son had the Happy Face pancakes. Our bill came to $50 including tip. I guess that's a bit pricey for breakfast, but it's definitely too much to pay for a disappointing experience. I know it's a bad experience when my husband and I don't say a word about the food while we're eating. Later that day he quipped, "That really wasn't that good." Yup, I felt like I was robbed too. The service was fine, the atmosphere is nice, but the food (the reason I dine out) was mediocre at best.

Jay D was the host who set up tables for us in the back room for our group of ten. He was great! Abraham was our server. He got all the orders correct and was prompt. The restaurant comped us two apple pancakes! Everything was hot and delicious. Several of us ordered omelets which were huge and fluffy. The pancakes were perfect. They offered strawberry syrup with fresh fruit pancakes. Hash browns were okay. The restaurant needs signage at their main west entrance as it is new and in a crowded area. One woman drove by it several times without seeing the restaurant's name. They are open 7-2 so no late night meals. :(

Everything was bad for the entire group. Been to some locations that were good but this one is not good. Everything was cold and flavorless.

We have been in several times before and it's always just ok. Today was slightly worse than before. Service was mediocre with our server getting both orders wrong. The food was blah highlighted by cold pancakes that were prepared long before we arrived. It's unfortunate as I love the brand. We will probably come back because we are gluttons for punishment. I will stick to the German pancakes.
