Good, cheap Mexican food. My friends and I used to go to the downtown location all the time when we were in college. The lunch special was like $5. Awesome! My boyfriend and I hit the Midvale location the other night and I realized I'd forgotten how much I like Su Casa. The service was fast, the chips and salsa was free, and the food was a tasty calorie bomb. I got the lunch special for dinner, so it was $6.29. The BF had the Grande Platter and loved it. We were out the door for less than $20, including tip.

I don't eat a whole lot of "tex-mex", or "americanized" Mexican food, whatever you want to call it, too much lately . It's just not "hip" anymore. So, I think a lot of these types of places stopped caring about having quality food. And few new places open up serving this type of food. But this place has never done me wrong!!! Good food, big portions and fairly cheap. I can't think of another "tex-mex" restaurant around here that I'd rather frequent. If I'm ever in the mood for a big, cheesy, smothered burrito then you know this is where I'm going.

Bad service, bad food, won't be coming back. The salsa was like a spicy tomato paste. That's when our spidey senses tingled and we should have just left. We weren't asked for our drink order until after we were asked if we were ready to order. My wife's food was brought several minutes before my fajita meat was brought out, which came several minutes before the fajita toppings, and then finally someone brought me tortillas- I didn't start eating until at least 10 minutes after her. Her taco salad was soggy and the chicken tasted canned. It had no flavor, even after dumping salsa and salt on it. My chicken fajitas were the only decent part of the whole experience, but even those had a slightly sour taste (how do you do that to fajitas? I'm still wondering). It was all just a little overpriced, which would have not been an issue if it had been good; with the quality of our experience, however, it only added insult to injury and was compounded by the fact that we only ate about half of our food. I know good quality Mexican food is hard to come by in SLC, but I honestly would have just preferred Taco Bell.

This place doesn't seem Mexican with the hostesses, waitresses, bussers and waiters being all gringos. The menu has good options but not super authentic Mexican. There was a good crowd here for lunch so the place does well. Service was very good - no complaints there. I had the fish tacos with rice and beans. Good portion and good tacos. No Mexican beer so I had an iced tea. I think 3 stars is a fair rating for this place.

The food is always fast, fresh and reasonably priced. I'm especially fond of the queso appetizer!! I order to-go a lot as well and they never skimp on anything. Very generous portions.

Been going here for years. Granted, it is very much americanized Mexican flavored food that lacks the true depth of genuine Mexican. I am partial to their chips and salsa.

Barbara nailed it with the crappy chips. they throw them in the microwave for a minute and bring them to your table acting like they just pulled them out of the deep fryer. It's probably been 18 years since I ate at the other Su Casa down town which was usually just because it was inexpensive it was o.k. but this location sucked!

I am a fan, and I won't deny it. This has been my friends and I's go to spot for dinner.. why, I don't know. But it just happened one day and it hasn't gone away. Either way, round 200 with some of my single girlfriends that I adore went down for dinner today. Trust me, I know this is not authentic mexican food -- so I am not rating it to those standards. The chips and salsa are weird - it is like a tomato paste, but chips and salsa is not Mexican food, sooo.... Two of my friends tried some banana drink special and I am not sure that was banana but maybe some banana syrup slushi? Either way, I didn't get one. I always get their chicken flauta with green chile sauce with beans (no rice - see my rant over Cafe Rio). It never disappoints, I always leave full and content. They have vegetarian options also, and are very attentive. Overall, I come here with my friends. I won't come here alone, or recommend it for someone to take me on a date, but if the girls say dinner this is the place. We can stay and chat even when we are done eating. They aren't chasing me out once I sign the check, which I always have to respect. Try it out and see for yourself. Be more adventurous than I am and try something new!

I like Su Casa and I was turned on to this place for there cheap lunch special. Less than $6 and you get a bean tostada and a bean burrito, big portions. This location is bigger then downtown and cozy. Servers seem to be on top of it, actually working then socializing. The ranch here is made with buttermilk and it is amazballs!! Salads are yummy and huge. Chips are ok, kind of stale sometimes and salsa is meh.

Ok. I ain't talking about the regular menu items because I don't eat that Ameri-Mexi shyt... I am reviewing what I have (leave the rest to the wife to tell you about). I love their chicken salad. I love it. Small marinated pieces of chicken atop a load of romaine and tortilla strips. Red cabbage, some lime juice, a little avo, and I'm gonzo. If you don't like the fat of typical salad dressings, have it with their fresh salsa (not the lava red stuff). The blond server (sorry I forgot your name, but I will never forget you!) rocks the thunderdome. Enjoy.

I have lived near this place for as long as it has been in existence and since going there I wonder how it stays open. With all of the fairly good mexican restaurants in Utah, why anyone would choose to return there is beyond me. The chips are your standard dorito fare that you can buy at Smith's. The salsa is like tomato sauce with salt and some heat added. The smothered chili verde burrito tasted like something out of a freezer case and the rice and beans were just meh, I would not recommend this place to anyone who halfway knows what good mexican food should taste like. You'll be disappointed.

Honestly, I'm surprised the previous reviews of Su Casa were so negative. My family has been going to Su Casa for years, and I've always really liked it. I mean, Red Iguana it ain't, but for your standard, Americanized Mexican food, its really quite good. Yes, the chips are not deep fried, but is that really a bad thing? I mean, really? The salsa is actually very good, though it is not super chunky. It has a really good flavor to it. Its my favorite salsa that I've tasted that wasn't home-made. Every time I've gone here, for lunch or dinner, weekday or weekend, most of the tables have been filled. I went here for lunch today, and had the Veggie Burrito Grande. It was really easy to have them vegan-ize this normally vegetarian dish, and the waitress was thoughtful enough to double check with management that the beans were not cooked with lard or any animal products. The food came out lightning quick, and exactly as I had ordered. And, bonus, it was huge enough that I took half of it home and had it for dinner a few hours later. I wish I had caught our server's name, because she was absolutely darling, was prompt, courteous, friendly, bubbly, and just awesome.

This place was horrible. The food was disgusting and the service was slow. The salsa tasted like spicy tomato sauce and the rice came from a rice package from Walmart. There was no flavor to the food so I suggest you drive a little further in hopes to get something even half way decent in Salt Lake. Don't waste your money unless you're just dying to have a glass of water because that's the only good thing they had going for them!

I'm honestly a little surprised by the negative reviews for this location. I have lived in Utah for 4 years, and I've been going to Su Casa in Midvale at least almost once every other month for that time period. I'm always greeted by a smiling staff and very friendly service. For the price and the amount of food you get, it's a great deal for couples or families. My favorite part is the shredded beef. Not a lot of places around here have it, and it's my favorite to get on Enchiladas smothered in cheese! Your order shows up in about 5-7 minutes and they never let my drinks get empty. Sure, not the most authentic Mexican food I've ever tasted, but it sure beats the heck out of what I could make at home, especially for the price! I highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this restaurant. They have a buffet. Their menu is big. The chips are yummy & airy. The salsa has cilantro, tomatoes, onions, etc. So it's not just the pureed hot stuff. The food was hot. The beans and rice on the side were yummy. My husband got the chile' verde and he really liked it. I got two hard shredded beef tacos, as I usually get that when I try out a Mexican restaurant for the first time.Loved it. I was so happy with the whole experience.

Service is good, food is mediocre, prices are great. There are quite a few places I can think of that I would go before coming back to here but overall you get a decent value for your money but food just lacks depth and flavor. Menu is oddly reminiscent of taco bells menu, so I guess you could say it's like a Taco Bell/La Frontera Cafe hybrid.

Okay, I'm biased -I grew up going to this restaurant with my family for any and every special occasion. I miss the old tacky décor, but the "new" style is cleaner and still comfy. The food is great. I don't live in SLC anymore, but I still love going to Su Casa when I'm in town. The lunch specials are tasty, cheap, and generous. I dream about the special burrito (which usually involves hot sauce-gun-slingers wearing tortilla-top hats, but that's my problem). -don't touch the plates, they're HOT!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
