Wow--WTH happened to this place? I'm not exactly a regular, but I go here at least a few times a year and get carry-out at least a few times a year more. Went back last night for the first time in a couple of months to find terrible food and pretty much the worst service I've ever experienced. I could usually depend on the New Golden Dragon for pretty good (though maybe not great) food, and the service was at least fine. Peking duck was good, barbecue duck was good, really good eggplant & pork, teenboy kid likes those cream cheese wonton things. And the moo shoo chicken was always dependably tasty (and they weren't chintzy with the plum sauce). But, holy cow, last night it was like we had the plague. We were alternately ignored and treated like a huge inconvenience. Everything took much longer than it seemed to need to (the place did not seem to be that busy and they had at least two servers), and when our waiter did stop by our table, he treated us like we'd killed his family. And the food was just crap. Over-salty, bland, not fresh, blecchh. The hot & sour soup was the consistency of chocolate pudding & tasted like it had been made a couple of days earlier. Teenboy kid's general tso's chicken was much more breaded than usual and (big surprise) had clearly been sitting out for awhile before it was brought to the table. And the chicken was gristly. The hubs had some chicken & veg dish that just tasted like salt, and my noodles & shrimp dish tasted like jarred garlic & salt. Not good, kids. Not good. So, now that NGD is off my list, where near downtown does one go for good Chinese food?
