The service here is genuine. The chips are light and perfect for an appetizer. A MUST have is the green salsa. Not spicy at all. Heavy on the cilantro and fresh onions. Yum. If you get the Taco salad, ask for no sour cream and guacamole. It was too much, combined with the decried beans and it was a mushy mess. My hubby ordered the side tacos with shrimp, and said it was perfect. The atmosphere was traditional, and they are open late on Sunday's. A bonus for the weary traveler.

Nope. I'm from Texas. Salsa would be good on spaghetti. Margaritas were weird. Service was not great and there were a lot of flys

Coming from Southern California to Utah I can say I was nervous about finding good Mexican food. This place is great for a sit down meal. Service was friendly and the menu had lots of options. I had the locos burrito with grilled chicken and it was amazing. The chicken had great flavor and the sauce really completed the dish. My friend had a chicken quesadilla and added bell peppers. She enjoyed hers very much as well. The chicken in the quesadilla was a shredded seasoned chicken with lots of good seasoning. Margaritas were good- not super strong but hit the spot. I liked the green salsa much better than the red. The chips were super fresh and the server replenished them promptly. I'll definitely be back!

Lunch was great! Ordered carne asada and was very pleased. Well the chips and salsa were bomb to start things off - hot and ready. Our waitress was nice and at tentative. The meat was done perfectly and wow were the beans hot! Great rice and fixings - all kinds of onions and salad. Highly recommend this dish!

This is my favorite restaurant. If I could, I'd eat here every day. I have a few things I order, so I can't vouch for the whole menu, but I can say the carne asada quesadilla is fantastic! My wait staff is always super friendly and attentive. The new building they are in has great decor and feels really nice.

We stopped here on our road trip in Utah based on Yelp recommendations and it turned out to be an authentic Mexican place - we ordered the loco burrito and the quessidella and the mango lemonade..the portion sizes were too big for us to finish but the food was amazing.

First visit to El Toro and we had a very nice dinner. I ordered Chile Verde burrito and Pomegranate Mojito. My fiancee ordered the Tacobowl. Our server Diana was friendly and prompt. Food was very good and we will be back to try out the rest of the menu. Hello Logan, UT...:)

Amazing food! I got the expresso burrito which was delicious and way more than I could finish. The chips and salsa was very tasty as well. The service was prompt and kind. Very clean and family friendly as well.

At first our server Cristy was nice and attentive. She took our order and we waited for about 35 minutes before our food came (people around us were getting their food who had been here a lot shorter than us) when we got our food she forgot all our dressing and when we asked her she was like uhhhhhm yeah. Like we were a burden.... When she wrote what we wanted down. She became very rude and didn't see her after our food came besides once to drop the ranch off. Service goes a long way when you don't get the food you want (the steak was sickly dry) and unfortunately this server just topped off this awful experience.

Huge portions and tasty salsa!! This place is a must when eating in Logan! We have eaten here several times... The service is fast and exceptional!! Each time we have eaten here our drinks are never empty as the waitress is on it!!! The food has rich bold flavors and you get plenty of it!! Me and the wife normally share a plate as there is enough food for two of us....

This is the best place in town to go to for authentic Mexican food. There isn't anything on the menu that I don't like and I have always gotten great service. I go here about once a month. It's a favorite for me to pick on date nights and love going to lunch with my daughter here. The fajitas & chips and salsa oh can't forget the margaritas, are all my favorites.

The Best Mexican food! You get so much for what you pay for and there are so many choices for all types of eaters. Be prepared to unbutton the pants, or better yet, wear some stretchy pants with elastic waistband cuz the food is so good, you will want to eat it all. I have been multiple times and have never been disappointed. In the mood for steak? Try the carne asada! In the mood for seafood? Camerones diabla is my favorite! Vegetarian? Spinach enchiladas are delish! Can't go wrong with the fajitas or supreme burrito. My all-time favorites are the Loco Burrito with the carne asada and the tacos de pollo al carbon. Yum!! The fresh, daily made salsas are to die for! Tortilla soup works wonders when you're sick, and is still delicious even if you're not sick. :) don't forget the dessert! Flan and fried ice are perfect to top off the great meal. (Getting hungry now... Possibly drooling. ;) haha) Service is friendly and prompt. Waters and chips/salsas were frequently topped off. They are now located in a new building and the decor is so beautiful! Fun bright colors with amazing Mexican metalwork, paintings, and carvings. A must see for everyone.

Green salsa is amazing ! Red salsa is scary. Hate to say that but it basically tastes like tomato soup. I ordered two side tacos with shrimp. They were good better than expected. Only minor annoyance was store bought shell. come on. Service was good great decor. Would come back.

I am from AZ and a big fan of Sonoran style Mexican food. I am pretty critical of Mexican restaurants located outside my home state. That said, this place holds it own. It's definitely not the best Mexican restaurant I have eaten at, but it's a tasty, fun option for this town. Atmosphere: This place is so darn cute. I love the decorative lamps, paintings, pottery, etc. Even the chairs and tables have style. It is a bit cramped, especially waiting in the entryway (on a Friday night there was ~10 minute wait), but that's mainly because it seems to always be busy. Chips and Salsa: This deserves its own category. The chips are nicely fried, crisp and thin (not sure if they make them there but it seems like it), and the 2 salsa options are great. Lots of cumin, and a decent amount of heat. For reference, I order Thai food "Thai hot." I would have liked more heat, but then again, I can see how it would be too spicy for someone not used to spice. Margarita: Again, this deserves its own category in a review of a Mexican restaurant. Surprisingly good, with actual tequila and not wine like I was expecting, although I have 2 significant complaints. First, the salt on the rim was regular table salt, not rock salt. Come on. Second, I got a lemon on the side, not a lime (really?), and the other one of our margaritas lacked any sort of citrus garnish. Entrees: Very tasty. I got a combo of cheese enchilada (simple but done well) and chile relleno. Everything tasted great, and was spiced well, but lacked any sort of heat whatsoever, i.e. very Americanized. There was also no garnish on any of the plates (e.g. shredded lettuce and tomatoes) so they looked a bit unappealing (especially the plate of pork in gravy). As long as it tastes good, though, that's minor. A bigger complaint is that they put the entire plate in the oven, so the plates and food are *extremely* hot when they first come out. Too hot to touch or eat for several minutes. It's silly; why bring out food that we can't eat for quite awhile? Service: Friendly, efficient, but almost too fast. For instance, the waitress did not ask about our choice of beans. I also wanted to inquire if I could order my food spicier, but she left too quickly.

Love the food, just love it! I got the steak fajitas to-go, amazing salsa & chips, BIG portion of beef fajitas, packed nicely! They were busy but well worth the wait, I'm very pleased with my meal!

The only complaint I have is the speed of service, still good food and servers were great just not in to much of a hurry

Well decorated restaurant that is able to hold a lot of people. They start you out with chips and salsa. The salsa is good and not too spicy. I got a chicken chimichanga and it was pretty good. The chimichanga wasn't really crunchy on the outside, but was moist on the inside, filled with chicken and cheese. The rice and beans were good, but not too memorable. Overall, it was good food at a fair price. If I'm ever back in Logan I would eat here again.

We went here because so many people are raving about it, telling us how much they love this place. Everything was too spicy for my taste. It either had red pepper flakes in it, or jalapenos or other peppers or both! And they included the pepper's seeds, which is going to pack even more heat. There were no mild alternatives. The usual chips and salsa was a dish of red and a dish of green salsa. The green had jalapenos and seeds. The red had pepper flakes. They were both very spicy. Usually, when there are two salsas, one is mild and one is medium. The dish I chose was covered in roja salsa. It was above "medium" heat, and I've eaten medium heat Mexican before. My guys will probably like the burning hot spice, so they will probably rate it better. There was no cheese or sour cream to soften the heat, so I got it full force. I got a box for it because I thought one of my sons would like it. Then I ordered a different dish and asked them not to put any of the salsa on it. It was OK, but even the refried beans, usually a bland beginner dish, was spicy hot. The service was friendly and attentive.

Love this place! The Tacos al Carbon are my favorite. It gets really busy and the staff get a little overwhelmed but stay friendly and are very apologetic if something isn't right. I also love their salsa verde.

We come here at least once a week. Great Mexican, huge portions, tasty salsa. I only wish they, or any Mexican restaurant out here, had white cheese dip.

Maybe we just had a bad visit but we got the fajitas and there was barely any meat at all. We won't be going here again.

This is "gringo" Mexican food, lots of cheese and a little bland. Overall nice place, very clean and nice staff.

I'm from Southern California and am up here for school, so take this review from that perspective. I recently went in for lunch here and ordered the Expresso Burrito. All the ingredients appeared to be fairly fresh except for the pork itself and some of the cilantro. Regarding the pork, there's something viscerally unsatisfying about eating grey meat. It tends to evoke images of heavy processing and post-apocalyptic scifi films about soy, lint, and greens. Additionally, it was drowning in a combination of runny black beans and some watery red sauce the menu said was roja. I think, in the interest of providing a counterbalance to all these high reviews, it should be noted that in many places, it's entirely possible to get twice the quality for half the price by stopping in at a local chipotle's. This may be the best Mexican in Logan, but as the say, in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

After a terrible visit at the Rancheritos down the street, I took my friends here for some Mexican food. As soon as we walked in the service was absolutely wonderful. The Waitress greeted us with a friendly hello and got us a table very quickly. I ordered the Raspberry lemonade and didn't even wait very long to get my beverage. All I can say is that the lemonade was to die for. The Mexican tradition they have there is so extraordinary I forgot I was even in the United States! Once I ordered my super nachos I received them fairly quickly as well. As I revived them, they looked very disappointing but when I took a bite it was absolutely scrumptious! Great place to take your family and kids, good service, I definitely recommend coming here.

Good food, clean restaurant. Bigger and better portions at dinner vs at lunch. No queso dip here.

When I think of my eating experiences at El Toro Viejo, I think mediocre. Now I am not saying the food isn't good but compared to other places, it just does not stack up well. If you are looking for the top Mexican restaurant in Logan, then you found your place but if your looking for top notch Mexican food that will blow your mind, I suggest going to a different state. Yes, the place looks authentic but will it have the kind of cooking you expect from an Hispanic grandmother? The answer is no and if you have ever had the delicious combos of carne asada, pinto beans, tortillas, and possibly Puerto Rican rice that I am talking about then you will be able to taste the difference.

Love this place! Lots of great Mexican food for your money, and with friendly staff and and a warm atmosphere, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Logan.

We called 45 min in advance and was told that we would have a table. We got here and waited another hour just to have someone else say they were us, and after telling the greeter what happened sshe told us" sorry I can't remember everyone we can add you back to the bottom of the list." Worst service ever.

Delicious! I'm very cheap as well, but I never feel disappointed when I've finished my massive meal of sweet, sweet deliciousness. Get the enchiladas verdes. They are MOST GOOD

I always want to like this place, especially because the people that work there are so nice, but I always walk away unsatisfied by the food. This time I tried the Mole Burrito, hoping for a delicious meal, and the mole was good, it's just that they put so little on I could barely taste it. Bland and sad. Lots of food yes, but why be so stingy on what is the key element of the dish? My mother is a much less demanding diner, but even her taco salad was just a soupy mess of lettuce. We both left very sad. Please guys, don't be so cheap with the ingredients!

Daaaaaaaaang. When I leave the East Coast, you better believe I stuff my face with all of the delicious Tex-Mex style Mexican food I can - anywhere it can be found, because it is definitely NOT in Charleston. Anyways. This place was the best. Huge portions. Awesome burritos. Minimal English spoken. Clean and friendly. Score for me.

There is some competition for Mexican restaurants in Logan, but this one was good and a value for the money. Everything was freshly made including guacamole and all salsas. In addition, a spicy tomatillo salsa was offer in addition to the normal pico da gallo salsa. The food was excellent for this region. The combination of fresh ingredients and handmade food made for a tasty meal. The restaurant is large in size and brightly colored in authentic Mexican furniture in place. The restaurant looks to accommodate for large groups.

So glad that we came to El Toro Viejo for Mexican food in Logan. The three-chile platter that I ordered turned out to be the size of half of the table! No complaints here. The sauces were muy autentico and flavorful, a salsa verde and a red mojo type sauce. The corn tortillas were fresh and plentiful. I took back some to my hotel for late night munchies!

A little pricey for the quality Had carne asada tacos. Not as flavorful and fresh as street tacos, but a lot more money. $14 for three tacos with rice and beans. Not worth it.

Making Mexican food. Best chips and salsa you can get at a restaurant!! Portions are huge! Got the fajita salad and I'll definitely be going back for it soon!!!!

Best Mexican in town. Price is around $10 a plate. Very quick service. We were seated ordered and had our food in around 7 min. Portions are very large and filling. Chips and salsa are made fresh so they will vary on how hit they are. Check the phone book they usually have a buy one get one half off coupon. Will be coming back again!

Snappy dressers, cute chairs, intimate dark booth corners, cool bowls, giant plates, immense portions, quality food, coma-inducing alcoholic beverages, and an attentive staff! Though perhaps bordering on overly attentive.

The Toro Viejo is amazing! Love the large portions. Another favorite is the Supremo burrito, but stay away from it if you don't like refried beans. Best Mexican food in Logan if not in the state of Utah.

  • Layne P.

My standards are simple when it comes to Mexican fare. Lots of food, reasonable price, and good beans. El Toro Viejo scores on all three. We went in with 10 people and everyone had a great meal. The chips and salsa were excellent. There was not one complaint out of anyone about the food. The dining area and restrooms were clean. The wait staff was attentive and fast. Prices were reasonable. Well done Suggestion, for a big group, grab some help to bring out the plates. It helps avoid that awkward few minutes while everyone waits for the last plates to be served.

  • Chef W.

The menu itself is tasty enough, and the service is good, but it ends up being a bit pricey for what you get. Our $38 bill got us two entrees and two drinks plus gratuity, and that was it: no appetizers, no desserts. Husband's street taco entree did not have nearly enough food to leave leftovers (three small tacos, rice, and beans), though mine fortunately did. Won't be a frequent dine for us, but a solid Mexican option when the craving hits.

Best red and green salsa around... great quality food! Definitely a return customer. The chicken quesadilla is awesome. Clean restaurant with friendly waiters!

  • Bevan E.

Their menu seems to be a carbon copy of hundreds of other upscale Mexican restaurants around Utah. Plate of refried beans, rice and one or two other items (tacos, enchiladas, chile rellenos, etc.). They are a step up from the hole-in-the wall "authentic" Mexican restaurants that serve head and tongue tacos, so it's definitely a place you can bring your wife.

    (3)
  • Austin S.

My wife and I love this place. I'm pretty sure they make their own chips and salsa, which are amazing. Fairly priced for the portion size. Highly recommended.

  • Minda H.

The chips are always hot and I will forever dream about the cheesy gooiness that was their cheese enchiladas. As a Logan resident for many years, El Toro was a mainstay for nights out with friends and lunches to destress. Go often enough and you will get a genuine smile from the host as they make efforts to get to know their regulars. The fajitas are always fabulous, but get an extra side of guacamole to round things out.

Hands down the best Mexican food I've had in Utah. I drive here from Ogden, just for El Toro Viejo!!

This is mine and my wife's go-to Mexican restaurant in Logan. We love it. The chips and salsa are fresh and delicious and we've always been treated great by the servers. A couple of our favorite dishes are the Toro Viejo (which is more than enough to share) and the chicken caldo. We'll definitely be back. It's much, much better than EL Sol.

  • Chuck S.

By far my favorite local Mexican restaurant in Logan. My favorite dishes are tacos de pollo a carbon and the steak fajitas. I substitute black beans and get a scoop of sour cream and a cup of white chopped onions for the guacamole. See the pic of the tacos.

  • Michael J.

We were in Logan looking for some good Mexican Food. It does not appear that Logan has any Taco Trucks, so we asked clerks at Sams Club. I had the chicken carnitas and they were excellent. Our service was very good (although it was pretty empty on a Tuesday night in June.) It was reasonably priced at $8-12 per entree. Would definitely go to El Toro Viejo again.

    (5)
  • Greg M.

Home made chips and two home made dipping sauces. Rice and beans are great! I always order The Mar y Tierra. It has one of the highest of price tags at El Toro Viejo ($15), but it will feed two. Nice selection of Mexican beers and usually good service.

  • Celsie S.

Best mexican restaurant in all of Cache Valley by far! First of all, the service is wonderful. The salsa and chips are amazing! (That is when you know a mexican restaurant is good). In the entrees, they do not skimp on the meat like some mexican restaurants do. Overall, it's the best. My husband and my favorite place to eat in Logan.

I have driven past this place for years and never stopped. My loss!! The food was excellent and the service was great. I had the seafood enchilada and my wife had the chicken fajitas. The place was busy yet we did not have to wait long for our food. There was plenty left over for a meal the next day. The chips came with two different types of salsa and were the best I have had. I will definitely never drive by again

  • Ellemeno P.

Food is very good. Very close to the true at-home meals I've experienced in the Mexican culture. I would go there for the food any day. Service is standard, not stellar, but the Food is good. During the Winter, they could use a bit more heat in the building.

    (4)
  • Ben B.

Somewhat Americanized but amazing food. Still pretty authentic. Best supremo burrito around. Very friendly staff. Food gets to you very fast. All dishes I've tried have been great. Also great salsa. There is a good variety of dishes here. Simple ones for those less inclined to authentic Mexican, and also some more authentic dishes.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
