I've been coming here ever since I was a little girl. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Logan. The portions are huge, and the prices aren't bad. If you are looking for super authentic Mexican food, you are going to be disappointed. However, if you are looking for good Americanized Mexican food for a good price, this is your place. Plus, their chips and salsa are delicious!

The chips and salsa was brought to the table promptly, and was probably the best part of the meal (the salsa wasn't made in-house). The food was so bad that a couple days later (today), I don't even remember what I ate. The pricing of most of their menu items was average/slightly expensive. I'd stick to cafe Rio or cafe sabor for now.

I ordered a taco plate. Received a huge plate of rice, one taco, a salad, and refried beans. Our appetizer was chips and chili con queso. The rice tasted exactly like plain white rice with ketchup. Absolutely bland. I could see 6 other peoples plates from where I was sitting and it appeared that no one took more than a few bites of it. The taco was a hard shelled taco. The shell was either purchased in bulk from the grocery story or they actually bought the entire taco from Taco Bell as this is exactly what it tasted like. The salad was shredded lettuce...not much to rant nor rave about. The refried beans were bland and I thanked the food god's that shredded cheese was put on top of them to mask the flavor. The worst part, and I mean the most worst thing ever was the queso. We received sour cream with shredded cheese melted into it, with diced tomatoes. Who?...What? This was so bad, I took a few bites of everything and left the rest. Floors were dirty and staff was too young to really have any food service experience. Previous yelpers love the salsa...it is obviously not homemade either. Additionally, I have lived in Texas, California, and in New Mexico (among other states, but I wanted to mention the SW states) and have visited restaurants in Arizona. This is NOT, I repeat NOT Tex-Mex or Mexican or even southwest food, so I beg all of you Utahans to please cease and desist immediately calling it so. I don't know, man, this town's food is getting exhausting.

Salsa: awful. Chips: yummy as any decent Mexican restaurant. The rest of our meal: terrible. Friendly wait staff, but good service can't make up for horrible food.

only giving 1 star because it can not go any lower...... I live in Phoenix, so I eat good Mexican food all the times......I really don't understand how it is possible to screw up mexican food this bad. Mexican food is not a fancy or complicated food. The chips were the best part of the meal. go for chips.....don't even eat the salsa....

First the salsa was like they took a jar of tomato paste and added spices. I had the burrito and rice and beans. The beans tasted like they came from a jar and heated up before being served. The rest of the food was very bland without flavor. I even discovered a bay leaf in my burrito which is not edible. The only plus side was the quick service. Probably will not be returning.

Yummy! I've been here so many times. I LOVE the chips and salsa, I don't know what those other reviewers are thinking! The salsa is delicious. The food is all delicious. Everything I have tasted is super yummy. Yeah, it is Americanized and bland compared to authentic Mexican cuisine, but that's what I like! It's still yummy and the sauces are delicious! I am a customer for life, as is my entire family! We always buy extra salsa and bring it home for later!

There's many types of Mexican Food in this great country. Some of those regional flavors are Fresh-Mex, Tex-Mex, New Mexican just to name a few. I personally would like to propose an additional type of Mexican cuisine... Ute-Mex. Its Mexican food plagued with otherwise standard Mexican food ingredients combined into a remarkably uninspired plate of Mexibland Ute-Mex. And to kick off this new regional Ute-Mex cuisine, I'd change El Sol's food category to Ute-Mex. I very reluctantly am giving the restaurant 3 stars. I feel like it was a very 2.5 type of experience. The service was exceptional, the server was polite/attentive, the drink was kept full and the food was delivered fast and her performance is the only reason I'm not giving 2 stars. I ordered the Chimichanga because it seemed to be recommended. I'm no stranger to a good Chimi, this one was half hearted at best. It was filled with ground beef, there were shredded chicken and beef options for 2 or so dollars more. In retrospect, I should have opted for the shredded beef. The size of Chimi was good, not terribly thick full of meat but there was a good enough amount figuring you also get rice and beans. My biggest complaint and surprise was it being topped with a load of straight from the tub sour cream. Not a sour cream sauce you often find in Mexican cuisine, but just straight dolups of sour cream. Then they tossed some shredded cheese on top. I hope I either wasn't offered or just didn't read that there was other options. If not, El Sol needs to shop around and find some actual sauces to top their Chimi's with. You are also served rice and beans with the meal. I picked re-fried beans and I appreciate they serve the re-fried variety. So many places only do black and pinto. It was a touch of Tex-Mex in Utah where they often try to Fresh-Mex it up too much. The rice was very bland, it tasted positively generic. There's better Mexican Rice from Rice a Roni at the grocery store. The chips were thick and from a bag, the salsa had good spice but tasted bad and had the thick consistency of ketchup. I seriously have never seen salsa that looked like this. They could serve Pace Picante and get a better reaction from me. But it was the spiciest thing I tasted at the restaurant. I want to be very straight forward in closing this review. There is NOTHING wrong or substandard about the ingredients that are being used, its the final product. Its just bland and uninspiring. By retooling some items with something as simple as a better sauce and a little actual Mexican spices you could really zest up the dishes. The service is great and I would go there again if service was the only item to review. El Sol is number one on my list of Ute-Mex restaurants, for better or worse.

Tomato paste salsa with chips while we were waiting to order gave me a bad feeling. We asked for fresh salsa which was promptly brought out and tasted fine. I ordered fish tacos and my wife the nachos. Her's was very average and mine was sub-par. This is your typical Mexican restaurant with fresh staple ingredients. Unfortunately, that's it. No real flavor. I wish some of these places would take a lesson from Costa Vida and really work to perfect each dish. I'd actually prefer a more authentic Mexican meal from a place like El Sol, but having lived in Mexico, I can tell you that they aren't trying real hard. On the positive side, Chrissy our server was great!

This restaurant is a poor excuse for Mexican cuisine. The chips tasted like cardboard and were from a bag. The salsa tasted like tomato paste and vinegar. Their tortilla soup was presented to us at lower that room temperature & their veggie burrito was simply ingredients tossed in a cold tortilla. The only thing they have going for them are excellent waiters who have a caring attitude. I will not be eating there again.

It's definitely not real Mexican food, but it's tasty. Try the chimichanga with chili verde. The salsa is addicting. The service is insanely fast (super fast microwaves).

If there were negative stars this place would earn them. The food is ghastly bad, the waitstaff however, are very kind and hard working.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
