Taste of India Menu

While some of the dishes are okay, compared to Bombay House in SLC and Bombay Bites in Riverdale Taste of India is not as good. Their paneer (cheese) dish was rubbery one time and had very runny sauce.

Good Indian. The lamb in the Lamb Korma is poor quality lamb. Not as good as Royal India in Sandy or Bountiful but it's good for a quick fix. Good friendly Service.

I am going to say upfront that I am rating Taste of India with 5 stars because I really have nothing to base it off of. That being said, it was the very first place I had Indian food and I was extremely impressed. The first time I went there it was for dinner and I had the Chicken Tiki Masala (Chicken breast barbequed in tandoor oven then cooked in creamy sauce with finely chopped bell pepper and onion). It is served with rice (that is seasoned in a way I cannot describe) and naan (which reminds me of pita bread). I would recommend ordering garlic naan, mild chicken tiki masala, and a strawberry lassi which is like a yogurt smoothie. (soooo good!) When I eat at Taste of India I pour the tiki masala on the rice like a gravy and save some to dip my garlic naan in. It is so good. What is even better is their online ordering system. tasteofindialayton.com/m… If you cut and paste that into your browser you can order online. They have an awesome lunch special that comes with a ton of food for only $9.99. I haven't even mentioned the BEST part. So it is is completely kid friendly. You wouldn't think so because who thinks of taking their kids to Indian (I didn't at least). You walk in and instead of giving the kids crayons and coloring pages they gave my kids an IPad to play with. Yes, I said an Apple IPad with games like angry birds to play. My daughters were so happy, all smiles, and loved the food.

I triple-doggy dare you to walk into this place and not get hungry. Triple ... doggy ... dare. The smell of spices is incredible, and the food is exponentially greater. My wife who has grown up on Indian food, has been looking for a decent place in Utah since we moved here from California. The food did not disappoint. The butter chicken and the tikka marsala are absolutely amazing. We engorged on them, complete with sticky rice and garlic gnaan. The food was fantastic, and so was the service. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great Indian food.

This restaurant was great! All of the dishes we picked were really good and you can choose your heat which is great because we love a lot of flavor and kick. I am definitely a carb girl, so the naan bread is one of my favorite parts. If you like ethnic food or have seen this and just wondered, GO TRY IT! I don't know anyone who has been disappointed.

Love this place. We go at least 4 times a month. Love the curries, how do they make them taste so delicious? Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Curry, Chicken Coconut Korma, Chicken Korma, Lamb Rogan Josh, Lamb Korma, Lamb Curry...are all good. I wasn't as impressed with the Bhunna, Vindaloo, or Chicken/lentils. The Garlic, Onion, and Keema Naan are my favorite types. Can't order curry without naan! If you go for lunch on a weekday they have an awesome rotating lunch platter menu which includes 2 entrees, rice, naan, raita, salad, and a dessert for $10 bucks! You can't choose your hotness level with this choice but they will bring you out some hot sauce to add if you ask. Try it, you won't regret it! Update - Almost 2 years later and we still go at least 4 times a month. My new favorite dish is the Vegetable Coconut Korma served "hot" with a side of Aloo Parantha (whole wheat flat bread stuffed with flavored potatoes). I add chickpeas to my leftovers for an extended eating time - very Channa Masala-esque. Great restaurant, their service has only gotten better.

A good friend of mine raved on about how good Taste of India is so I made the pilgrimage from Salt Lake City to Layton just to try it. My wife and I went in on a Saturday night without reservations (not sure if they actually take reservations), it was pretty busy but we didn't have to wait to be seated. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala HOT and my wife ordered the Vegetable Coconut Korma MILD. I'm really into spicy food and my Tikka Masala didn't let me down. It was hot but not overwhelmingly hot where it's more burn than flavor. It was super flavorful....I'm talking super duper flavorful. I noticed my shirt smelled like Tikka Masala then next day when I was doing laundry. I had this dish with white rice and Naan and was not let down. I also had some of my wife's Coconut Korma. She ordered it mild and so there was no kick but it sure was sweet and delicious. This place isn't close to my house but I liked it so much that I am willing to make the trip again...and again. The service was good and the food was delicious. My only complaint is very minor and that is that I didn't really like the lighting, they should invest in better mood lighting.

Our wait has been LOOOOONG for this well-reviewed and award-winning restaurant. The food has tasted good but texture very mixed in quality. Appetizers are hit and miss: The mixed tandoor style appetizer was good, but texturally inconsistent -- chicken tandoor legs very good -- probably because they are not boned -- but the chicken tikka (chicken breast) VERY dry. The paneer (cheese) was decent but also too dry. The vegetable pakoras were also very greasy and texture much too flat and heavy; they need chunkier veggies and to mix some rice flour in with their gram/garbanzo bean flour and cook at a higher temperature fry. Main dishes: coconut korma and curry was quite good, but the chicken tikka masala was, again, very dry -- though not as bad as the tandoor chicken tikka because of the masala sauce in this dish that helped moisten the overcooked chicken. I was very disappointed in the latter dish since Taste of India was awarded best tikka masala in Utah. Dessert of kheer was all right. Not amazing, but good. Food prices were the usual high prices for smallish portions you normally find with Indian cuisine in Utah. Not terrible prices but not good pricing either considering the inconsistencies we experienced. Taste of India is probably worth a visit on a non-weekend night and if you have a coupon.

I read all of the great reviews and had to try this place out. Basically: Staff: Really attentive Atmosphere: OK, did not have that Indian feel Food: - Rice: Very good - Nan bread: Very good - Samosa: Tasted like it was pre-made a few days ago. Clumpy - Chicken Vindaloo: The chicken bits were good, the sauce was very bland. I had ordered hot, which was OK. But there just was no real flavor, no punch. If I come back to Layton, might go to Ogden and try the Indian there. I travel a lot - I try to do an Indian, Sushi and then steak dinner while on the road. This was lower than average from I usually get.

We had garlic naan, medium and mild chicken curry, shrimp biryani, and lamb biryani. Medium is for people who like spicy food that gets hotter the more you eat - bit too hot for us. Cilantro is put on everything so you need to like the herb. You can ask them not to include it, but it can't be completely taken out. The curry came with basmati rice that everyone thought tasted sort of plasticky (I'm sure this was an herb we weren't used to), but we were using the biryani as a base so we just left it alone. Overall the food was okay - nothing memorable here, just a collection of stuff that all sort of tasted the same, but then we don't have any connection to Indian cuisine so maybe we just don't get why anyone would ever pick this over chinese.

It doesn't get much better than this :) The food was really good. On request they can make Mango Lassi without dairy. I have never ever tasted a better Mango Lassi than this one. I had three of them :) Very friendly people and excellent service. Too bad we live so far away. Highly recommend this restaurant!

If you live in the south Davis County area, and love Indian food, this is the place. My husband and I have eaten at Bombay House and Himalayan Kitchen in SLC, both are great, but Taste of India in Layton is just as good if not better! You might miss this place if you're not looking for it, because it's located at the end of a small strip mall on Woodland Park Dr just north of the Hampton Inn. Many options, and you can even order online and then pick it up for takeout. tasteofindialayton.com Dine in too, but don't expect fancy ambiance. The focus here is on the food. And it's always excellent.

Interesting place visited them when they first opened. We ordered appetizers which was this flours thing that looks like a giant flour tortilla. Served with a yogurt mint sauce. And others. It was good food. Curry was okay. Wasn't to strong in flavor as to my moms own curry. Kind of pricey but okay. If you want to try something new this is the place. But I do not recommend the mango drink thing. It was thick and pungent couldn't think of what else was in it. Until I find real tasty India cuisine then I'll let you know till then this place is good. A bit pricey but good.

Great food...excellent service....beyond reasonable price....ding ding ding we have a winner! The lunch special is wonderful, with a widely varied menu. We love the British Colonial Standard Chicken-Tikka-Masalla with the garlic naan bread. Delicious food.

Looking for a new place to try we found this one on Yelp and saw that it had good reviews. We arrived an hour before closing on a Saturday night and the pace was empty, literally no patrons were in the restaurant. This made me a bit skeptical. We were asked to order our appetizers, main course and am dessert at the same time which was weird. I asked if we could order dessert later and they just kept asking if we were going to get any. We wound up getting the sampler appetizer. This was our first time eating Indian food. We love Thai food and thought why not. I'll tell you why not. The food is mostly vegetarian which isn't bad if seasoned nicely. All the appetizers tasted very similar and quiet frankly I didn't know what I was eating; I don't like not knowing what's in my mouth. I got the chicken tikka masala and my wife got the coconut masala. Mine was tomato sauce, seasoning and chicken. I didn't like it. My wife's was okay but I've had way better at Aroy-d in Ogden. We got the rice pudding dessert and it was sprinkled with pepper on top. It was okay. I'm sure if you like Indian food you would love this place, this was our first experience with it and it's not for us. The food is just too unfamiliar for us. The service was great, the atmosphere is unique but clean. We won't be coming back because we found out we don't like Indian food. Our total bill for everything was $56 including a tip. Not worth it. Go to Aroy-D in Ogden.

Every time we went to Layton for FCCLA state I'd get a ragtag group of Indian food virgins and introduce them to The Taste of India. The service is FANTASTIC! We'd always leave satisfied with our food and service not to mention prices. Shout out to Jessa our server for my last FCCLA State Convention.

Was back in Layton again a week ago, and HAD to come back for top notch Indian food. I look forward to my trips to Utah, just so I can come to Taste of India. We tried the lunch special for $9.99 and you get 2 entrees, naan, salad, an appetizer and desert. It is a great deal. My friends all insist on going here with me whenever I'm in town.

I LOVE indian food. and I have been to a lot of Indian restaurants. We came to Utah for a business trip and Taste of India was crossed street from my hotel. I came in with low expectations. but it turn out great! We ordered Chicken Vindaloo, Lamb Coconut Korma , lamb Rogan Josh. they are all delicous, very favorful. and I LOVE LOVE LOVE their hot sauce. if you like it spicy, ask for their hot sauce. We were stuffed by the time we leave. We would definitly come back again.

I am a "hole-in-the-wall" snob. I have had Indian food throughout CA, New York, London and even Malaysia. Prior to last week, Bombay House was the best option for great curry and vegi options in UT. Not anymore. Taste of India is all about the food. No great atmosphere. No sitar music in the background. Just great, authentic Indian food!!! And in DAVIS CO!!! Are you kidding me? Accept no weak imitations (see on Main St. in Bount). Taste of India is outstanding!!!

  • Amy S.

Oh, this is a nice little gem. I'm a relative newcomer to Indian food, but I understand Taste of India gets high marks for authenticity. As far as taste goes, I haven't had anything to match the coconut chicken in or out of Utah. Strangely enough, there was NO ONE in there when we went for lunch even though it was around 1 p.m. The service was a little slow, but that didn't bother me. I'll definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Layton.

  • Adrienne K.

The food was average and really over priced. We ordered 3 different meat dishes that were nearly all sauce. I won't be going back. There are many good Indian places in Salt Lake that are worth driving for due to better quality and value.

Taste of India has quickly become one of my local favorites. The chicken coconut korma is great! The service is always friendly and the food taste divine. Definitely worth trying!

I guess I'm just a disagreeable sort. Don't understand all these 4 and 5 star ratings. This was our first time to Taste of India and it will be our last. I really didn't enjoy being hit with a strong stench of cleaning chemicals the moment we opened the front door. It overpowered everything else. The food? Mine was meh, my wife's was blah. But the dining room needed some work. The employees had left the back door open and it felt like we were dining out in the parking lot - and a very cold parking lot at that. I had to ask our server twice to shut the door. And it was still frigid at our table. We finally ordered. I ordered the Mango Chicken Curry Medium spicy. My wife had the vegetable masala, also medium spicy. Out comes a rather small portion of both dishes. Both were also very mild. As I said, mine was just meh, nothing to go back for. My wife's was just plain blah. Tasteless. Not spicy. Boring. And for this our bill was over $27.00. An Indian lady came by just we were finishing and asked us if we wanted more rice. She didn't ask how we liked it. Hmmm? I wonder why? This place is over-rated, over-priced, and cold. Well, it is mid November in northern Utah. I suggest you try a real hole in the wall Indian restaurant in Ogden called Sitara on Harrison and 36th. Better food. Less price. Friendlier service. 9/17/12 This just received from the ToI Assistant Manager, almost 1 year later. Hi Phil, Sukhdip K. has sent you a message on Yelp: Taste of India "Thank you for your review, We will be sure to take it to heart to improve the experience here at the restaurant. Please come back again some day to let us know if we have improved. I am terribly sorry about your last experience. Thank you. -Asst Mng-" No, Sukhdip K., I will not return. Truly a bad experience I'll not wish to repeat.

The lunch special rocks! $9.99 for naan, rice, salad, your choice of 2 entrees, and rice pudding. I tried the Tandoori Chicken and the Chicken Coconut Korma. Delicious! Best Indian food I have ever had in UT.

Been there 3 times to give a fair review. Every time was good. Their flavored naan's, especially the sweet one (light paste of honey and roasted nuts) was really good. We brought a different couple every time and all of them loved it.

Taste of India has some good and not so good dishes. If you have a child an iPad is provided for their entertainment. My son took some time to get use to the smell inside and was fun to watch hold his nose off and on for the first little bit. My wife and I ordered an assorted fritters appetizer and a basic naan to start things off. Most of the fritters are first covered in a curry and then battered and fried. I would give it about a 2. My wife ordered the chicken coconut korma in medium hotness. It was good with the rice and the sauce was great with the naan. That dish was about a 4 and the best of what we ordered. The naan was really good and will have to try a flavored one the next time I eat here. I ordered a fusion tandoor and a mango lassi. First the fusion tandoor came on a hot plate which was nice but everything that touched the plate had a nice burnt spot. The fusion tandoor comes with a lamb sausage, chicken thigh/leg, and chicken breast. The lamb sausage was about a 1 for me as I am picky with my lamb. The chicken breast was just overcooked and very dry so about a 1.5. Chicken thigh and leg were moist and pretty good at a 3. Taste of India's mango lassi was good but not as thick as I was expecting it to be. I thought the lassi was OK (3) and I might try the strawberry or classic some other time. Service and atmosphere are very good (4) at Taste of India and it really makes eating here worth the trip even if the food is not always that great. I would recommend coming to this restaurant and try something new. It is OK and I am not quite a fan of Taste of India as only a few of what we ate was really great so a 3 over all.

Wow! I knew little about this place, but I'd thought I'd give it a shot & get takeout. I was impressed -- the food was great; really tasty. I got the vegetable samosas, chicken coconut korma & a mango lassi on the recommendation of the very friendly and helpful hostess. I'm looking forward to eating here again next time I'm in town.

My wife and I just got back from Taste of India. It's our new favorite place! It's an authentic Indian dining experience. The decor is elegant but casual. Johnny and his wife were waiting tables with big smiles and pleasant conversation. He bowed in his turban several times throughout the meal to ask us politely if we need anything else. We really value the non-chain quality of the restaurant. We went for the Mali Kafta, which was made with cheese and can be spiced to order! The food arrived very quickly. Prices were very fair. They have many dishes that can be served Vegan, and a whole list of vegetarian options.

  • Jenny K.

This is the first Indian we've tried since we relocated recently to Utah. We had some really great Indian restaurants in Austin, so I was curious how this would stack up. Opinions in the family were mixed. The vegetable curry was good and flavorful. Spouse liked the Malai Kofta, but I did not care for it too much. The garlic naan was a major disappointment. We paid an extra dollar to have garlic powder dumped all over plain naan? How expensive would real garlic be? The samosas were pretty good, but a little too much bread to filling. The service was good, the price was fine, and the iPad for the small person was a really nice touch. We'll try some of the other Indian places around and then I'll be able to report back more accurately.

If I say Layton, or Ogden Utah - you say - AWESOME Indian Food? It's probably not the first thing that would come to mind, but believe me, when I say, the food at the Taste of India in Layton is nothing short of outstanding. I have been lucky enough to travel a lot in my life and have had Indian food all over the world - the Taste of India ranks in my top five world-wide (no joke) and I am telling you it rivals the best places I have been to in London, Bangkok and New York. The owner and host will greet you with utmost friendliness, make suggestions and educate you on the food if you aren't sure about things, and speaks about his food and his chef with passion. My wife and I were on a ski trip and staying in Salt Lake City - after reading a review in a local paper that was glowing, we decided to try the restaurant and ordered a lot of dishes, to treat ourselves, and really to test the place out. Everything we had was OUTSTANDING - the butter chicken, the rogan josh, the chicken biryani, the samosas, the pakora, and on and on - stuffed! and just happy and reeling from an amazing meal, our host treated us to desserts that included kulfi, kheer and some gulab jamum and some "Indian tea" that was also lovely with rich cardommon, cinnamon, and ginger flavors. Not sure that I would ever really want to go back to Salt Lake City - but if I did - the one place I would surely go to is the Taste of India in Layton.

Although Taste of India came highly recommended by friends from the area, I was not impressed with the food or the service. I ordered the lamb korma, a favorite of mine. Initially, I was brought what was reportedly chicken korma. They replaced the chicken with a lamb dish, but did not bring out fresh rice or garlic naan. The replacement dish was thin and watery compared the the original chicken and was not impressive when paired with cold rice and naan. The garlic naan was seasoned with garlic powder instead of fresh garlic. In addition, I ordered the korma medium spicy. The spice seemed heavily of black pepper and was not offset by any sweetness, normally from raisins in the sauce. On the plus side, the place was nicely decorated and clean. Nonetheless, I will not be back.

Love this place. Particularly the coconut Korma and lamb Rogan. Just get medium or higher spiciness. It is a bit bland with low spiciness but simply amazing spicy. I have had good Indian food in many different major cities and nothing comes close to this Layton gem.

I was pleasantly surprised by this little place tucked into a strip mall. It was convenient to my hotel, and although I was on my way to a different restaurant, something made my change my mind and I stopped in in a whim. I'm really glad I did. Don't expect fine dining and high end decor. Do be pleased by the friendly staff, and the delicious food at unbelievably low prices. The naan was fresh, warm and tasty. The lamb rogan josh was the right balance of spice and heat. The portion was generous. I had enough left over for lunch, which given the strip mall food desert hell I was in was especially appreciated the next day. If you've angered the gods and they have sent you to this town on business, stop in here for a pleasing respite from the rest of the bland pastiness of this area.

Lunch Special was excellent. I'm from out of town on business and am glad we chose this place for lunch. My colleague and I both ordered the lunch special and were very satisfied. Tasted great, service was good, and the price was much lower than I expected. Great flavors!

The food was good. The service could have been more attentive, but if you like to be left alone, then it's perfect. The portions were huge. We had lunch, we each ordered a special, there was enough for two people on each plate! Be prepared to bring food home.

I still have dreams about their chicken saag. If I ever had a bad day, I would come here and have their chicken saag, which is still to this day my comfort food. The staff is friendly and the portions are perfect.

This was the first Indian place I ever tried in Utah and I have to say I was sadly quite disappointed. I've been here twice now and can honestly say I will never be back. The food is bland and Indian food is supposed to be full of spice and flavor. The naan came out soft and a tad doughy and the flavor was nothing to brag about. The service was pretty average, not great and not terrible. If you enjoy spicy authentic Indian food this is not the place for you.

  • Erin D.

Overall this place is pretty bland. The restaurant was accomodating when I asked for a side of curry sauce with aloo paratha ($3), but the curry sauce was pretty bland. It wasn't spicy, it wasn't sweet; it was tasteless. I also had the keema samosas ($4.50), which were also dull in taste. I wasn't really hungry, so that's all I ordered. My total bill was $8.06 including tax, but pre-tip. Had the appetizers tasted more flavorful, I would've ordered more food. I probably will not return again.

  • Layne P.

Very good food. We had the assorted fritters to start. My favorite was the onion pakora. We couldn't decide what naan bread to get so we got the fusion basket. All of them were very tasty. There were four of us, so we all ordered a different main course. With the appetizer, the naan bread, and 4 main courses there was way too much food to eat. We took enough for two more people home in a box. All of the dishes were very good. Medium heat was just right for me. My son ordered his with the hot spices. It was a bit spicy but not overpowering. One of the dishes we ordered was the vegetable curry. The sauce was good, but the veggies were overdone. Otherwise, all the food very good and we had an enjoyable experience.

I've never had Indian food, not sure why. My husband loves it so we decided to try it out. I was nervous but was pleased. I had the aloo gobi which was very tasty. My husband ordered chicken curry. We both had it medium temp. It was a bit spicy but I'm a wimp with spices. The naan was fresh and delicious as well as the rice. I would definitely go back and try more veggie options.

  • Wendy S.

Very friendly staff who offered great service. The restaurant is in a small strip mall, inside has a relaxing environment, but not top class. Food was what I expected, delicious chicken curry, wasn't over spicy. You have to order super hot if that's what your going for. Only complaint about the food was the garlic naan bread had a touch of sweet and was really greasy. But this is from a girl that's tried a ton of Indian restaurants. Of course my opinion will be picky. :) Worth a try.

Terrible Indian. Worst I have had and that includes many in England and in Utah. Devoid of rich flavors and spices. Go to Bombay house, Kathmandu or royal India instead.

Pretty good Indian. I had some chai tea and chicken tikka masala. I like it spicy. I recommend asking for very hot if you need it spicy. Medium was on the light side of taste. Nonetheless, still very good.

It's been around three years since I last dined here. On a recent trip to Layton, we decided to stop by for an evening meal. Wow, what a change a thousand days or so makes. Things were promising walking in, great aroma, plenty of other diners. Things started to head South when our waitress turned up tableside, completely lacking any charm, character or personality. The same story followed through with our food, the very definition of insipid. A Lamb Rogan Josh was a measly yellowy gray in color. No hint of any vibrant fiery red color, nor any luxurious pops of nuts, fruit or chile. The sole ingredient in the sad gravy was some listless lamb, which had been cooked well ahead of time. I don't recall the last time in the past five years, I've not scooped up every last bite of curry with my naan. A $14 dish this was not. I recall these guys were famed for their Tikka Masala, so we also sampled one (somewhat terminologically incorrect with paneer but meh), which seemed to use Campbells tomato soup as the base - again thoroughly and utterly bland. Naan bread was decent enough (you have to purchase it additionally here), our appetizers were average (chicken pakora, vegetable samosa) and a glass of red wine was served teeth-furringly cold. The last time we visited, the restaurant used iPads, they no longer seem to do this, no biggie. In their place though, two menus. Bizarrely one with apps/drinks and one with entrees. On the menu I noticed they now have three locations rather than this original location. One has to wonder if focus on quality has been stretched by a tripling of their capacity. I'm afraid it will be longer than three years before I return.

The customer service was great. Spent $19 for an appetizer and a main dish. Food was cooked well. Traditional Indian cuisine.

I was a little weary about trying Indian Food in Layton, but this place not only had great reviews, it was very close to our hotel. It was January and 18" of snow had dumped overnight so the close factor was important as this Phoenix raised girl has limited experience with snow or balls cold temperatures. Since I was traveling alone this time, my dining companion and I didn't have to worry about what my husband wanted to eat so we decided to give this restaurant a try. Apparently, they have another location (with a bigger kitchen) so certain items like Samosas, etc. come from there and are brought here. Everything else is made in house. The food was FABULOUS. The lunch specials are served beautifully and sadly I did not take a picture but others have. The naan was fresh and perfect and the lamb biryani that I had was a perfect blend of meat/rice/spice/veggie and the raita was a lovely texture (not to thick not too runny). To top it off, I tried the "Indian" coffee. I am not a Chai lover or even liker. I have had my experiences with Thai coffee/iced tea, Vietnamese coffee (the best and strongest and helped keep me "up" for long nights at the poker table) but never Indian. Not sure what was in it, but it was delicious. One thing that surprised us was that we did not see a single person from India in the front of house. Our lovely server and service was great told us they were in the kitchen when I inquired (yes, I am like that) and seriously, well worth trudging through 10" of snow (what was in the parking lot) to eat here and I would do it again.

This little place is tucked away behind the mall's movie theaters, near a lot of hotels. The ambiance is not so great. Dimly lit, booths are so old and the seats so worn out it's like sitting on wood with vinyl over the top. The service was acceptable, though a little slow to start. It took 5 minutes to get water, and a few more minutes for our server to show up. They weren't all that busy, either, at 8 pm on a Friday night. The food was okay. My companion and I both ordered medium spicy for the Butter Chicken and Saag Paneer. It tasted pretty mild to me, but that varies a lot from place to place. The basmati rice was over-cooked and dry. My water was never re-filled. The naan, however, was fresh and delicious! I've had better service and I've had better Indian food, so I probably wouldn't go back here.

Loved the Tika masala and garlic naan.

I've never been steered so wrong by Yelp reviews before. Unfortunately, Taste of India did not live up to the glowing reviews here. My husband and I found our lunchtime visit the most disappointing visit, in which we won't be returning. We each ordered a lunch plate: chicken tikka masala and shrimp korma. Each of the sauces were watery and tasteless. The only item on our plates that had any flavor was an onion pakora -- which gave us both terrific stomach pain, 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant. The worst thing was paying for the privilege of feeling like we've been socked in the gut.

I've had real authentic Indian in Cali, this one is a bit under my expectations for the price. We had lamb Saag and the Masala plus side order (the mint was ok, the tamarind was good, the hot sauce was yummy) and garlic bread...around $40 for two. It would have been great if they were to put more Lamb in the Saag and not little morsel of the meat. The sauce was good, but expected more serving. The rice was ok, just ok. The staff didn't seem to know some proper restaurant customer observation regarding appetizers. We ordered a nice plate of appetizer, the only thing is that the staff should deliver the main meal after the appetizer and not right after.

Their butter chicken is orgasmic! A typical order, for my family is: butter chicken, lamb coconut korma, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. We always order more than we'll eat; so that we can have leftovers. Everything I've ever ordered had been delish. I've tried many an Indian restaurant in UT, and this place is my favorite! I prefer the Layton location, to the other two. All three Taste Of India's have the same menu, but for some reason the portions are bigger at the Layton one? A few weeks ago, I called in a take-out order. When I went to pick it up at the Layton restaurant I realized that I'd accidentally called the Bountiful store! Rather than making me drive to Bountiful to pick it up, the manager made a phone call to the Bountiful restaurant and cancelled my order there. Then, he put a rush on my order, and had it made within minutes; at the Layton restaurant! Even though the mistake was my fault, they went above and beyond to make me happy. Taste of India has my loyalty for life! Or... At least for as long as they keep the current owners.

My husband and I are regulars here. Everything we've tried is really great - flavorful without burning our faces off. The staff is always friendly and the service is quick and accurate. There is always enough for leftovers.

We love this place!!!! We had never really tried Indian food before so we gave it a whirl and loved it!! The food was great, the service was incredible! One thing we loved the most was that they made our 2 year old feel important too! An iPad for him to play games on and free ice cream when he was too tired and ornery to sit still. Very impressed.

Great food and service, menu had a wide variety but they made us a side not on the menu. Portions were large, including the naan, plenty of rice to go with dishes. Service was prompt and did not take long to bring food out. Spice was just as request and full of flavor. Prices were good under $75 for family of 4. Highly recommend!

This place was good. It was a little cold atmosphere wise, but the food was good enough to satisfy an Indian craving.

Food is pretty good. I have had better but good luck finding any other Indian in Davis County. Staff is friendly and service is ok. We typically get tiki masala and veggie pakora, but also like the butter chicken and coconut korma. The naan is pretty good as well. We go here often but have no other options. It probably should be 3.5 stars... It is not quite as good as the Bombay House in SLC and Provo, but it takes care of our Indian cravings.

This place was BLAND! We came here once and enjoyed it but this time we were so disappointed. It was clean and the service was good but the food was very disappointing. What a shame! We even drove down from Ogden to go again looking for a great experience. Usually Indian food is an explosion of flavors that are perfectly balanced. This time everything fell so flat! The dishes lacked sauce and seemed muddy in flavor. We felt sad that we spent our money here. Next time we will drive a little further and go to the Bombay House for a truly flavorful dinner.

Everything I read about this place said how good they were, best Indian in Utah so we had to try it. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the hype. I ordered a combo plate with a variety of items so I could try a good selection. Surprisingly the food lacked flavor despite me asking for medium spicy, I would have ordered hot but I heard Indian hot could be far more than average hot, maybe I should have taken a chance. The prices are hefty, service was mediocre and the food was bland not a good combination.

I love Taste of India. I have been there several times. The service is always fast and friendly and the naan is always hot! Ownership changed when the original owners moved back east about 3 months ago and a few of the recipes changed slightly. I can honestly say the shrimp coconut korma is even better now than it was before. My husband and I love the tomato soup, the chicken tika(sp) masala and the garlic naan. I have introduced many friends and relatives to Indian food at the Taste of India and all have returned!

I am grateful that in this small area is a pretty good Indian restaurant. I came here twice so far, once for lunch and once for dinner. At lunch time, there is a 9.99 special offer where you get a samosa, rice, two entree selections, dessert, and salad - this offer is spectacular and I suggest you take advantage of it. For dinner, I ordered a lamb vindaloo which was fairly tasty. The garlic naan and naan with potato in it (aloo .. something) were tasty but the potato filled naan was sparse on potato for half the naan...that was disappointing but the naan of course, is tasty. They were out of the famed rice pudding - I guess that's why my coworker told me that it is hard to get because they are always out but supposedly very deliciously. The total for all of that food was under $22. Service was attentive and I was pleased. The decor is very cool - it feels like you stepped out of Utah and into India. I'll be coming here regularly.

Ordered the Tandoori Chicken (12.99) with Naan (1.99) and rice. Tasted great and a better value than the Chicken Tikka Masala. Same price and twice as much chicken.

This place is definitely the best in area to get authentic Indian food! When you first walk-in, you will definitely get the Indian theme from the décors and layout, each table are spaced far enough and has a tall enough wall to have privacy of their own, and everywhere are clean. The service is very good, the waitress will always check on you, and even the chef will come around and ask for opinion after your food arrived. Throughout the week, they have a $10 lunch special with a choice of two curry items that varies by day of the week. Awhile ago, they started using iPad as an alternative ordering method, which was actually the first place I have seen to utilize such idea in Utah. Not to be an apple critic or fan-boy here, but providing the iPad to customer to play with while waiting for the main entrees was definitely an interesting concept added to my dining experience. As for the food, I really like their lunch special, in addition to the two choice of curry dishes, they have a portion of naan, salad, and some rice desserts. One thing I would point out is that if you are into spicy curry, they can't cook the spicy paste into the curry and you would get a side of sauce with your food, so I assume they pre-cook the lunch special curry, but they still taste great. I ordered their entree dish once and it was very delicious with spiciness at my enjoyment level. If you work or live in the area then look no further, this is definitely the best place to get Indian food, and I am quite certain that others who have dined here would tell you the same story.

I came here on a lunch date with my boyfriend yesterday as I rarely find myself in Layton and/or anywhere in Davis County. He had been raving about it for months and months, and what a great value it is, especially when compared to Bombay House. I will say that after having tried the lunch special with the butter chicken and the lamb rogan josh, it is a pretty good deal, but as far as flavors go, I still prefer Bombay House. For $10, you can get the lunch special, which comes with two curries (the ones I chose mentioned above), a salad, naan, a naan cracker, and this delicious pistachio ice cream. When I came here, the service was very... hit or miss. We were quickly seated when entering the restaurant, and our order was taken shortly after. We received the food long before we received any water, in all fairness, the food arrived literally 3 minutes after ordering. The dishes must be made in advance, but they didn't taste as if they were sitting underneath a heat lamp for hours, much like other Indian lunch buffets. When waiting for the check, after paying with card, it took a few minutes to track down a pen. Overall good service, but a little inconsistent. If you're in the mood for Indian around lunch time, this is definitely the place to go. The butter chicken was my favorite curry out of the options provided, and they actually gave a perfect portion of naan (I normally find that I am always stinted on naan). Not to mention, we were in and out in less than 40 minutes, not a bad deal, especially for $10.

I'm not an Indian food expert by any stretch but I have been to India for work and taste of India is legit. I had the butter chicken and garlic naan. The garlic naan was outstanding and the butter chicken was very good. I ordered the butter chicken mild since my son was sharing with me and i would have liked a little more spice so go at least medium. Updated review. The channa masala is fantastic

Overpriced, over rated, upset stomach. That sums up our first visit in a nutshell. My wife, 2 of our kids (ages 12 and 15) and I had heard how good "Taste of India" was. I would have given 1 star, but our 12 year old thought the food was pretty good. Go figure. I honestly would think that kind of food would be more in the $6-$7 a dish category. But for four of us it came to $75 for 4 entrees and 1 appetizer, no drinks and no dessert. Honestly it just seemed like some sauce with a tiny bit of meat and a whole bunch of rice. I know I'm in the minority, but I think that maybe people love it so much because it is something different than the usual fare, especially in Layton. (?) Oh well, I doubt I'll be back, and if I go, I'm sure it won't be with my wife, who absolutely HATED it. Service was really so-so.

This is the most disgusting Indian food I have eaten. The staff were extremely slow in service. They stated their food was the best in town this was far from the truth. I was expecting decent Indian food and was sorely disappointed. I am used to Tandoori Garden in Anaheim California, which is the BEST Indian food I have eaten. I was expecting something similar. If I could give negative stars I would. This place does not even deserve one star

Ive been quite a few times. Ive enjoyed it, but recent visits have not been enjoyable. We went last night with a restaurant.com gift certificate. That comes with an automatic 18% gratuity. The service we got wasn't worth even 10%. We saw our actual server 2 times. We had to ask random servers walking past to get what we needed.....drinks refilled.....extra sauce. And used plates from our appetizers were never taken from our table. And, we get the pleasure of hurling up our dinner into the night.

I love Indian food and it's been awhile since I've had it. I went here the other day on a whim and I'm glad I did. This is the best Indian in the area! On the inside the decor is quite inviting with many Indian themes and motifs. We were seated without too long of a wait and the service was really good. We were quite hungry and so we tried several items on the menu. I ordered the assorted fritters and a Mango Lassi to start out. I really love samosas. I try them at every Indian restaurant I go to and these were spot on. The only downside is that the assortment platter only comes with one samosa and two of everything else. The good news is that the samosa is large enough to split into two so both you and a friend can share. The Mango Lassi was really delicious. I also ordered the Chicken Tika Masala.... which is about as standard as Indian food gets, but I like it. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the Masala here.. The Chicken was a little dry, but the sauce made up for it. My friend ordered the Chicken korma, which was really good. I'm a sucker for coconut and so the flavor of the coconut in the curry reminds me of Thailand. I also ordered a Garlic Naan, which was amazing. Having been to many Indian restaurants, I can honestly say that this is a good one. The only downside is it's a little pricey. I could order just the Naan and the Mango Lassi and I would be happy; everything else is just gravy, but really, really good gravy :D

Everything is delicious. I particularly like their shrimp coconut kurma but have tried about everything here and can honestly say I've never been disappointed. The lunch special is incredible. You get to choose two dishes that come in small portions and you get a salad and dessert with it. All for around 10 bucks. This is a great restaurant.

Best Indian food I have had. I got the chicken curry and a strawberry lassi with a side of naan. The curry was AMAZING. I'll admit, I have never had a curry that had tomatoes mixed in. But it was delicious, plenty of sauce for my rice. The strawberry lassi was refreshing and tasty. Everything tasted fresh and very flavorful. It fulfilled a pregnant girls craving. My son got the mango ice cream for dessert and he enjoyed it. I'm not a big fan of mango so my opinion is a little biased. My only wish is that it was a little cheaper so I could go more often!

Surprisingly good for Layton! We've had quite a few things on the menu and they taste just as good and often better than anywhere we've been. The parantha is wonderful.
