Service and prices were fine, but food was disappointing. Lemon sauce seemed fake, the fried rice tasted day-old, and the "beef" in the broccoli beef was a combination of gristle and beef-flavored fat. You know when the fortune cookies are the best part that it's time to look somewhere else for Chinese.

One of the best/cheapest Chinese food places in Davis county. I love their Mongolian Beef and Szechuan Tofu.

Great food, good service. A nice place for a Sunday lunch. A lot of food for the money. Our favorite is the "Happy Family" it comes loaded!!

Growing up, my family dined here occasionally and we all enjoyed it for what they had to offer. I recently went back for an evening meal, and I must say I was greatly unimpressed. The Lemon Chicken dinner combination with fried rice had me asking the person opposite me, "do they always serve it in the goo?". The meal was straight-forward and the portions were decent. The egg drop soup and fried rice were standard. The taste and texture of my meal was nothing to brag about though, and if anything a little off-putting. Those working here didn't seem too concerned about our experience, and I don't believe my expectations to be over-the-top. Granted, the 80's hits playing loudly overhead and the stale pink and green seats may have influenced me more than they should have. I love quirky, and I love hole-in-the-wall, but this was another dimension that didn't have a hint of Chinese flair to it. If food is your main concern, then please add another star to my review as there were no *major* letdowns in that area. Take-out, perhaps?

Uggg had a good experience here a few months ago. Got the sweet and sour chicken dinner both times. The first time it was fresh and crisp and loved the veggies cooked in it. But tonight it was soggy and treated undercooked. Even had a wierd cat pee smell to it when I drive home. The service was super slow, I easily waited 5 minutes at the counter until someone came out to swipe my card and give me my food. Probably not going here again.

This is the go-to for Chinese around here. Living a few blocks away, it's great to be able to do take out or to dine in. I've never had a bad dish here & everything is hot & fresh when ordered. True, they aren't revolutionizing the Chinese food experience in america, but they are good at what they offer.

Service is horrendous! Staff was more concerned with what sounded like watching TV in the back, than to actually check on their customers. Food was sub-par at best. When we finally did have someone check on us to see how we liked our food, the woman acted angry that I wasn't happy with the way my food tasted. She argued with me about what I ordered, then asked me briskly what else I wanted. To that, I told her I didn't want anything else. She charged me for my meal, even though I ate no more than 3 bites. I'll never go back. No reason to when the food sucks and the service is even worse.

Barf. I've given this place a couple shots simply because it's walking distance from my house, and every time I've been disappointed. I ordered plain white rice for takeout one time because I was having friends over and forgot to start the rice on time and they didn't even get that right. Two thumbs down.

My dad and I have been eating at the Royal Jade since I was little. We love their Hot & Sour Soup - definitely the best I've ever tried! The owner knows us and remembers our orders every time, even if it's been a year since we have been in. We have never had a bad meal or poor service. Also the food is fairly priced, especially for the amount you get.

The first thing I do when I move to a new area is find the closest decent Chinese food. No lie. Chinese food is the easy and somewhat healthy go-to in my diet, and I almost always do it as take out. Royal Jade has been my Chinese purveyor of record for the past two years since moving a few blocks from it, though I've eaten their food for over five years. Are they transcendent in the world of Asian cuisine? No. They are solid Chinese with a few dishes that are notably above average. Their Egg Foo Young of various flavors is one such dish. The dark, complex sauce is not your mother's egg foo gravy. There are times when it tastes on the verge of burned, but it never crosses that line. I love it. Also notable is the Szechaun Chicken with Garlic Sauce. The strong garlic sauce flavors the generous portion of chicken in a highly pleasant manner. The heat in this dish has, over the many time that I've ordered it, varied a bit. I know that for some, having the same dish taste the same way every time is paramount, but I find the potential to be surprised rather nice. I've never had it show up so hot that it wasn't absolutely delicious. To address concerns of other reviews: greasy? Interesting. If I've not had food from Royal Jade at least three dozen times, I would be surprised. If you told me it was over fifty, I wouldn't be shocked either. I can honestly say that I've not once among all of those visits found anything to be greasy and, in fact, find the food to go rather easy on the oil compared to other Chinese food I've had locally. Maybe I've just been extraordinarily lucky, but I do note that they have an award on the wall behind the count which declares them to be among the 100 Most Healthy Restaurants in America. I haven't bothered to ask how they came about the honor, but it does speak to some desire to be at least somewhat cognizant of the oil that goes into the food. Anyway, it isn't perfection, but I don't really require that from a Chinese food place with inexpensive prices like these. I want competent with occasional flashes of above average, and that is what Royal Jade offers. I can't wait to have last night's leftovers for lunch today.

To summarize this place, I would just categorize it to be another American-Chinese restaurant with mediocre food. The food selections on the menu were definitely Americanized with classic dishes such as Chop Suey still on there. I ordered a Hunan Chicken dish for extra spicy while my friend ordered a Chicken Lo Mein. Both dishes were cooked fairly sweet and the noodles had a rubber-like taste. At the end of service, they gave us oranges instead of fortune cookies, which were surprising to see it in an American-Chinese restaurant, since it is usually a service you will only see in authentic Chinese restaurants. The dining services were fairly decent, and one of the first catchy points from the restaurant design is that it had a uniformly pink color theme and old fashion tables & chairs. Perhaps this restaurant is intended to serve an older generation group of customers rather than the younger generation. It might not be a bad place to dine if you are looking for food from the 80s; otherwise there are better places for Chinese food in town.

The rating says it all. Meh. My husband raves about this place. And since it is .2 miles away from our house, we get it every so often. But I'm still trying to figure out why he likes it so much. Its not that great. He says its authentic... Uh sure. If you say so. I say its bland, greasy, boring food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
