My Root Beer Mug was not cold that was a let down the server got my order wrong twice So I settled for food I did not want. But the garlic cheese breadsticks are a must try.

My first impression of the place was that it looked cozy and welcoming. My husband and I sat at a booth and the table was quite wobbly. Our server was very nice and sweet. We got the garlic chkn pizza, meaty pizza, and chkn pesto penne. Everything was very greasy and tasted okay. Not the best. I did like that it was baked in an oven and the crunchy thin bread was good. Everything we ate was to salty for our taste buds. As for the place, it was kind of old. The bathroom toilet seat was wobbly and needed to be secured.

After visiting here a few times because a few coworkers really love this place for unknown reasons. I am not quite impressed by what they serve here so far. They got a decent size dining area and location is convenience enough being north of the mall. I got the Meat-A-Pizza first time I was here, the dough was quite tough, and meats were just average. We trade slices around, and none of those really stood out for me. Another time we came for the AYCE sampler day, and we pretty much tried every single one of their pizzas on menu. The pizza dough still suffered a common problem being thick and chewy. None of them really had much flavor. The desert pizzas were just sweet. Best part was probably my soda, since they were up to task at topping it off most of the time. Sadly for me, Brick Oven was nothing bad a disappointment, there are plenty other pizza joints in the same town... hell, even that pizza place at the mall food court was better.

Staff was very slow and mostly young kids. Asked for clean soup spoon as the four left in container were dirty. Rarely checked on by waitress. Had to ask manager for receipt to check out as we hadn't seen watress in a while. Bathroom stall was almost out of toilet paper. Probably will not visit this location again.

LAYTON, UT: If ever there was a restaurant resting on its tried-and-true (and tired) laurels, Brick Oven is it. This place was founded in '56 and probably last updated in any way around '91. The positives are the young eager to pleasers they hire for waiting tables and serving you. They also give ridiculous portions at a fair price (unfortunately you won't be tempted to take any of it home). The food is a mess. Everything is boring. Individual comments below. Garlic Bread (4 stars): This tastes fine and isn't too buttery Root Beer in Frozen Mug (4 stars): It's good Clam Chowder (4 stars): this is the best meal item I've had here. Unfortunately the restaurant isn't called the Chowder Oven Pizza (3 stars): we had their gourmet pies, the Alfredo and the Barbecue, both were very average Pasta (1 star): Twice boiled pasta? Gross, falling apart and mushy. The sauces weren't terrible, jus stick with the basics of Alfredo or marinara meat sauce, I just couldn't eat the pasta. Seriously, lets add some deep dish or Chicago options, shake up the pizza recipes, ditch the pasta or at least make it palatable, and update the menu. Even cash cows should be fed once in awhile.

Servers were very friendly - but the food was below mediocre. Salad bar was not fresh, with wilted lettuce & some empty containers. Soup tasted like it came out of a can. Ice cream sundae was awful - stale, icy tasting & fudge that wasn't even warm. With all the other options in the neighborhood do yourself a favor & skip this joint.

Such a disappointment! We used to go to Brickoven now and then but the service was always just horrible. I mentioned it to the manager a couple of times because when service is consistently terrible I blame management. Finally we just quit going there. A couple of days ago we decided to give it another shot. I've always enjoyed salad bars and my husband wanted a calzone. Iggy's made a better one but they've closed up so we went to Brickoven. Service was good at first, water was brought and our order was taken promptly. It was all downhill after that. It took a good 10 min before we got any garlic bread and a full 30 min before my husband got his calzone. It had obviously been sitting in the kitchen under the heat lamp for a bit because the plate was very hot but the calzone wasn't. You can tell when something has just come out of the oven and this definitely had not. Since there were only 3 other tables of customers and 3 separate servers I don't see that there was any reason for a delay in the food. We won't be going back again. I wish Brickoven had closed and Iggy's were still open. Service was always good at Iggy's.

We're giving it an in the middle, 3 star review. Breadsticks: we liked them. Good flavor, has a slight cinnamony taste. However they didn't give the dipping sauce that was advertised. Garlic bread: fine. A little too sweet. They definitely sugar up their breads. Salad: incredibly boring salad. No cheese, no croutons, just lettuce, tomato, and onion. However their blue cheese was awesome. Chunky and a little spicy. Chicken penne pasta: what a bland, boring dish. They brought it to us with NOTHING on it but sauce. No cheeses, tomatoes, spices, basil etc. Just noodles, (chewy) chicken and flavorless sauce. Disappointing because we were excited for Italian that delivers. Overpriced for sure (other then the breadsticks) Probably won't order again.

We saw the reviews but came anyways. After reading the reviews, I had low expectations of this place , but I did my best to go in with an open mind. I found the service to be really good, at least the lady we had was good. I was worried the most about the food since our last experience at the Pizza Factory was subpar. I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and I liked it! If I could say anything about it, I would have preferred a little bit more buffalo sauce on my pizza. I plan to have the left overs tomorrow. Overall, my family and I agreed that we had a 4 star experience here. We would return if we came back to this area.

Visiting the Salt Lake area on a work trip, so 7 of us went for lunch on a Tuesday. There were only 4 other tables eating, but service was a bit slow. We ordered drinks which came promptly and the root beer was awesome, but they spilled the coffee. Ordered 5 salad bar plates, but when getting spinach we discovered a ballpoint pen buried in it. A BALL POINT PEN! Pizza was tasty and was fresh but I would not come here again based on this experience.

Friendly servers... But the food took way TOOOOO long to come out. Ordered a calzone and it took 40 minutes. Half of my party had to leave early before their food came out. Lame!!

Very disappointing service, management, and food. We had the unfortunate luck to stumble upon this place for lunch today. First sign we should have run was the sewer like smell that saturated the front half of the restaurant. We were sat right away as the place was only half full on a Friday at 1:45pm. Our waitress stopped by after just a few minutes to let us know she would be with us "in a bit". 10 minutes later another employee came by and took our drink orders, and we asked her if we could get some children menus. She appologized and said she would go get them. Five minutes later the waitress brought our drinks and asked is we were ready to order. We informed her that the other employee who took our drink order was getting us children menus, or so we thought, and we were still waiting. She promptly ran and got us two and said she would give a few minutes. We placed our orders at 2:05pm. After 25 minutes waiting for two children pizzas and two calzones, and our waitress off who knows where, I went to the front were I had to ask another employee how long it would be until our tables food would be ready. She said she saw some pizzas sitting in the kitchen and she would check on it. A few minutes later she appeared with all the food that had been sitting under a heat lamp waiting to be served. Needless to say it was dried out and too hot. We asked if we could get our garlic bread that was supposed to come with our meal. She said she would get it for us. About five minutes later our waitress came by to refill our drinks. We asked if someone was getting our bread. She said she would check on it. almost ten minutes later we had to go ask the pasta guy if he could help us with our bread we were waiting on. Finally at 2:54 after we were all done eating our bread shows up. Then two minutes later some guy brings another order not knowing that we just got it. Then they charged $0.55 for my kids pizza because she ordered bacon on it. When I asked they said they charge for premium toppings. I showed the waitress that now where on the menu does it mention anything about that. It just says kids two item pizza and list toppings with one single price. On our way out my brother-in-law explained our disappointment to the manager who simply heard him out and said "oh, I'm so sorry." What a joke this place is. We would never visit this circus again.

Service is slow, unprofessional, and sloppy. The front desk acted confused when we arrived and asked to put our name on the list, we had to ask multiple times to have our drinks refilled, it took nearly 45 minutes to get our order, and it was wrong when it arrived. The food was edible... One star.

This place is NOTHING like the original Brick Oven in Provo, UT. That place is good, a classic. This place is not. The Layton location is not clean enough, the service is poor, and they overcharge you on toppings. Check your bill closely. Certain toppings come up incorrectly and result in an almost dollar charge for each topping. This is not the way it is suppose to be and they will correct it but what a pain!! Most importantly the food is terrible. The garlic bread is dry and flavorless. The pizza crust is hard and stiff. The eggs on the salad bar are super rubbery. The breadsticks are good. However, they bring a super small plastic cup for the sauce. This cup also has the sauce all over the outside. They also have this terrible rotating food thing that basically means a server will be joining you for your entire meal and you can't eat what you want when you want. If you get a chance to visit the Brick Oven in Provo do. Drive on by this imitation in Layton.

I've been to this restaurant twice now. The first experience was superb and I'd easily give it 5 stars, while the second experience was subpar, and I'd give it 3 stars. The hostess and our server were polite on both dine-in occasions, but on our second experience, our server continually neglected to refill our beverages, and for that I'm docking a point. (Ensuring that customers have full glasses is Server 101 Basics.) The food is good, having a "homemade pizza" appeal to it, and in my opinion is priced accordingly. (I guess if you're used to the greasy over-flavoured pizzas that you get at Dominos or Little Caesars, then yeh, maybe this place seems lighter on the taste buds... ... ...) The other point docked is for the prep/cook/serve time, which felt longer than it should have been, and the fact that they crammed all the "families" in one corner of the restaurant when there was still plenty of room elsewhere. So, considering my first experience (5 stars) and the above experience (3 stars), I'll give it an overall 4 stars. I think Brick Oven is a good place for a slice of pizza with the kids, and if you're one to get hung-up on customer service, you'll appreciate the good manners the hostess and servers have here.

I ordered a 10" pepperoni & meatball pan pizza with romano crust and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked & we'll prepared. The service was great. Prompt, polite, and consistent. Price was great too. My new go-to pizza place.

Service was good. Doesn't matter. This place is like the Chuck a Rama of pizza joints. Nothing is fantastic (that I've had) and the prices reflect closer to fantastic. I ate at one in st. George years ago and it was down right nasty (pasta buffet), but I completely forgot about it and then realized after we ordered drinks tonight. I sucked it up and at the bland, uninspiring food. I recommend you don't eat here, but there're plenty of people in the world that eat hungry man dinners and chef boy ardee ravioli. So you folks go ahead and keep this culinary travesty in business. You deserve each other. Have a good day.

I was actually way surprised I liked this place as much as I did. The pizza was good! I mean, it wasn't any gourmet joint, but for cheap, sit down pizza, I was impressed. I loved their dessert pizza, all you can eat option, and the salad bar. Super good salad bar.

Brick Oven has an extensive menu offering a good variety. They also offer a sizable pasta, soup and salad bar which looked inviting. I opted for the lasagne and the wife got a pizza. I liked my lasagne but the wife was not completely satisfied with her pizza....not enough sauce I believe. Service was pretty good. This place caters to the Utah majority so no adult beverages and expect a lot of kids to be dining with you. I would lean more to Olive Garden which is just down the street, I know they are a big chain but they do it right consistently and they cater to everyone.

  • Rob S.

We waited close to an hour. Granted they were slammed at the time, but there were plenty of empty tables where they could have sat us. We had probably 4 people (server, cook, manager) apologize for the long wait. To many people said sorry that it was almost annoying. They discounted our drinks and the salad but still... The unlimited garlic breadsticks are a nice touch, but the bland pizza brings it back down.

  • Samantha K.

Horrible service. Not so great food. Expensive for what you get. If you pay with cash, they will round your bill up to the nearest whole dollar and keep the change for themselves. This did not happen just once but three times. Ravioli tastes freezer burned and cheap. Generic, plain, cheap sauce. Way too much money for the entire horrible experience.

  • Jaron C.

This was our third try at this place. Figured third time would be the charm. Not so yet again and we are done trying. Salad bar is not good. Eggs were old, tomatoes not ripe, lettuce was dried out. The pasta bar sauces were fresh out of a can, the pizza was very greasy. I would have expected more for the price. It is Golden Corral with pizza. Seats are uncomfortable and hurt your back by the time your done. The one bright side is the service. It was on point and made it up to two stars.

Unfortunately we weren't very impressed with our 3rd visit. The first time we thought it was pretty good, the 2nd it was ok, and tonight it was below average. We shared the Italian calzone which had no flavor and about 4 pieces of sausage in it. We also shared the bbq chicken pizza. I thought that was much better than the calzone but my husband wasn't too impressed. Our server was cute and did a good job so that is a positive! We won't be going back a 4th time, though.

  • Kailia N.

Oh snap. From the time we arrived and waited about 15 minutes before we even saw a staff member, I had a feeling it would end this way.....the way of horrible dining experiences. We sat waiting for our food for 65 minutes before we told them we were leaving, and at that point the manager actually tried rationalizing with us by saying the reason for horrbile staffing and food service was they didn't have enough staff....I offered to do her scheduling for a nominal fee but she never did take me up on it. She did however offer us a cookie as way of apologizing, but lesson already learned, do not go back there.

The food at this location is good although the price is a little high. The biggest problem is the staff. I have been about 4 times and the very young staff always seems to be having some kind of drama. They spend a lot of time gathering and whispering loud enough to be heard. I will probably be back very occasionally.

In spite of the two 1-star reviews, we decided to go anyway. We arrived just before 6pm on a Saturday night with 11 people. The place was filling up quickly, but they seated us within 10 minutes. The wait staff was very prompt and courteous. The place is very kid friendly. In fact they had a guy there tying balloon animals. Nice touch. The salad bar was well stocked, clean and cold. Well done. Our group had a variety of dishes to include lasagna, pasta, kids menu, and pizza. There were no complaints from anyone. Overall, we all felt the food was pretty good. No one was disappointed. The price ended up being about what I would expect to pay for evening dinner out with the family. Yes, the pizza was more than you would pay at your local delivery place, but they don't have to pay for the dining room, wait staff or the cleanup. Bottom line, we had a good experience.

Pizza is pizza is pizza, but their's is pretty darn good. The kicker is the desert- the wife and I shared some sort of brownie ice cream concoction which was freakin' fantastic! They offer pastas...but why would you get pasta at a pizza place, stick to what the reasuarant specializes in- Connoisseur rule #1

    (4)
  • Brian A.

Expensive. If you like paying a lot of money for pizza then you will like this place. The pizza is good, get the BBQ chicken. The problem I have is the price for what you get. If they lowered their prices then it would get more stars.

We went to the Brick Oven for a going away party. The staff and atmosphere was very pleasant. The food was good and was a good price making it a solid value.... All you can eat soup, salad, and pasta for only $8 and change. The confusing part was all the options and what was all you can eat and what was one pass. Overall I would consider going back.

Just average food and the service has been good but not impressive. However, it is an excellent choice for families with young children. My children enjoy the noodles and the balloon at the end.

You know a wise man once said to me "if you see a long line and food, you get in that line little buddy". Well this place makes that man sound like a complete jerk! I like to think of myself as a positive person so taking a dump on a place like this makes me feel bad. However, this is the biggest ripoff in the entire state; hands down no question. I tend to eat at shady a$$ places daily, but this place goes way beyond anything I have ever experienced. The service is fine don't get me wrong the staff is working hard but the food and the prices are criminal. If you order the chicago style deep dish pizza, you will literally get a deep dish pan with a ring at the bottom that lifts the pizza about a half inch or so. When i saw this i was blown away. I looked over to the other tables that ordered normal pizzas and it was the exact same pizza but mine came in a different container with that built in platform to raise the pizza. Also, I am more than fine with paying a 1.25 more per topping (the cheese and sauce is complementary yay!!!) but these toppings are ones that you could walk across the street to target and pick up. the pasta, ohh man dont even get me started; it sits in these massive warming trays and it looks like it has been there all day. Pasta from a box takes 5 minutes to cook, can the owners really be that lazy. You are charging over ten dollars for a plate of pasta and you don't have five minutes to spare to throw it in some boiling water. Nobody wants shriveled dried out or overcooked pasta that has been sitting in steam all day. This place is so bad i could go on all day. Caveat emptor my friends, caveat emptor!!! Seriously buyer be very, very, very, very, very, very aware. If you read this and still go to this place you will be coming straight home and writing me an apology email. Feel free to start the email like this: Brunho I went against your recommendation, I thought you were a crazy fool who clearly did not know what the he!! he was talking about and for that I am truly sorry. Sincerely your dearest __________ (add name here)

I've been here 4 times, and to sum it up, I'm whelmed. Not over or under. Just whelmed. I used to work at Heaps in Provo, so I have an affinity for this place and WANT to like it, but it's pretty blah... with high prices. The first time I went there (alone) - I walked out 5 minutes after being seated, cuz no one even greeted me. Slightly better service since - but the servers are all scrub-faced kids, who really don't know what good service means. Last time I went with a co-worker, she got the salad and pasta lunch buffet. The manager came by & asked how we liked our food - she said it was awful so he came back with 2-$5 gift certificates, which she promptly gave to me and told him that she probably wouldn't be back. It's that kind of place. The Mo crowd, and former BYU students will probably keep it going for a while. Glee Z. would NOT be pleased with his legacy.

I've eaten here about six times now, always had the pizza and root beer. I've never been disappointed with the food. Service varies, but my order has never been mixed up. I recommend the combo, pepperoni and cheese pizzas all with extra cheese.

Let me preface this review by stating unequivocally that I AM NOT A PRUDE. If you read my reviews, you'll see that nearly every review of mine is 3 stars or higher. But tonight was a freakin' train wreck. We were seated, and immediately noticed how sticky our table was. So sticky, in fact, that when I picked up my paper napkin, half of it stuck to the table. When I picked up my menu from the table, it sounded like a teenager opening up his sweeeeet Velcro wallet. I took the liberty of "tagging" our table by writing "YUCK" in the grimy matrix with my fingernail. (Note to self: put my fingertips in boiling water when I get home) So I went to the pasta bar. Surprisingly, there wasn't a line. I told the gal which pastas I would like. Each trip to the pasta bar includes a meatball or sausage, and garlic bread. So she hands me my (Luke warm) pasta and asks me if I would like sausage with it. I asked her if I could have a meatball instead and she said, "We don't have that." (Whaaaa?) I said, "what do you mean you don't have that?" At which point another server stepped up and clarified by saying, "I'm sorry, we ran out of meatballs this evening." So I got the sausage, which was actually really tasty. But seriously, folks! How does an Italian joint run out of meatballs when the place is half empty on a Saturday night at 7pm? (The fact that it was so empty should have been a red flag) I took a bite of my garlic bread, and it was soggy/saturated with water. The only thing worse than wet bread is eating from a community bowl of popcorn and chewing a cold, wet piece that you realize fell out of somebody else's mouth. Needless to say, I was annoyed. I looked down in my pasta bowl to see how my bread got so wet. When I tipped my bowl, I saw that there was probably a 1/4 cup of water from my pasta not being adequately strained. The salad bar ran out of lettuce. 4 times we watched a server RUN from the front of the store to the back, which was ironic considering that it took them 30 minutes to bring out my wife's pizza. We were seated close to the front doors. Twice I heard servers say to diners as they were leaving, "I'm sorry, have a nice night." When it was time to pay, we gave the server our credit card, and she said, "hold on while I find the phone that you pay on." WTH? So she comes back with a cell phone with a Square card reader (like what taxi drivers use). She swipes the card, then hands me the phone and asks me to enter the tip......while she's standing there watching! The receipt that she have us didn't even say Brick Oven on it. It said German Munoz. Am I about to get hacked? As we left, there were people at the counter complaining to the manager. If you like tables that are dirtier than those nasty balls in a McDonalds ball pit, warm spaghetti soup with NO meatballs, a killer salad bar with no salad, and your card being scammed....ERRR...scanned by some dude's private cell phone card reader, then this is the place for you. The other 99% of you should STAY away and do something more pleasant instead, like scrubbing toilets at a truck stop. Unlike Arnie, we will NOT be back.

This is not a very good place. Most of the pizza is below average, the service is slow, and the prices are high! I've definitely been to worse places, but I'm never in a hurry to return to Brick Oven. There are dozens of other pizza places I can go to nearby that are cheaper and tastier! I actually work at a nearby hotel, and whenever guests ask me how Brick Oven is, I recommend they try Firehouse pizza instead. I've only heard complaints from guests that have eaten at Brick Oven.. and most that go to Firehouse love it!
