Love this place! I am never disappointed when I come here. What we always start off with is their chips and salsa (I'm allergic to avocado so we never order their guacamole, but it looks delicious). My favorite salsa is their Chipotle and their chips are always nice and crispy (not too thick and not too thin). We then always order their taco of the day (it changes daily) and usually their fish of the day. Other great tacos are the pork belly and their angus steak taco. You will never go wrong with either of those. They have a large selection of Tequila so if that's your drink, then this is the place to try all different kinds. They also have a decent beer menu as well (I believe they have Wasatch brew a specific beer just for them). All in all this place rocks! The prices are cheap and their food is soooo good!

That one star is for the guacamole which as as I know is the only delicious thing. The atmosphere is good, the people seem nice but I've given this place 4 tries! 4! Today was the last straw as the F.O.D. Or the fish of the day tasted so fishy and old I couldn't finish my meal. It also wasn't cooked thoroughly and last time I checked this isn't a sushi place. Previously the price, bland tastes, and bad service have lead me away from what could have been a really awesome experience. I won't be back.

After hearing several people rave about this place we finally decided to give it a try. We went with some friends who swear that this is their favorite taco place in the whole of Utah. the assured us that no mattered what we ordered, we would not be disappointing. It all seemed very promising. Blue went with the Pork Carnitas tacos and the daily special which was a pork cheek selection taco. I went the Mole' ..cuz really...there isn't anything better than a good Mole'. The results? The pork cheek was probably the winner of our three selections, although I don't know that I would order it again. Perhaps we just caught them on an off night, but there were several little bumps that ultimately led to a less satisfying experience. Small things like, the rice was a little undercooked and the corn tortillas served with my Mole' had a stale taste to them. There were some ingredients that tasted fresh and awesome, and some that tasted like they had been sitting out all day. The Mole' itself was sadly unimpressive. I don't consider myself any kind of expert on the matter of Mole', but to me, it tasted a lot like the Red Enchilada sauce that you get at any Mexican restaurant. I chose chicken for my meat and I was a little disappointed to see a pile of dry chicken breast plopped atop a pool of sauce. I hesitate to be honest because I know so many people think that this place is the tops, but for what you are paying, there are certainly better options, but usually they are found on authentic taco street carts or on the west side of the salt lake valley. As far as an East Side Eatery, it might be one of your only taco options. I would for sure be willing to give it another try sometime.

Love this place so much, love the other location as well. Food always tastes so awesome. I think the pork belly taco is my favorite, having had every single item on the menu except for all of the daily specials. My only complaint is that the service always blows, whether they are busy or slow we seem to have to guide them on what is needed. Waters go unfilled, we have to remind them we need the check so we can get back to work. You know typical things that should be the norm. We will keep frequenting this location as it is closer to us even though the one on Foothill seem to have it together.

It's been awhile since I've been to this side of town, it was a beautiful night. The setup at Taqueria 27 is very comfortable and nice. We sat outside in the outdoor dining area overlooking beautiful Holladay. It was a pretty busy night, and many drinks were following. We got the duck, pork belly and pork cheeks tacos and it was good nothing too exciting to highlight. Great atmosphere, great service and overall it was a good experience.

Came here to celebrate my birthday, and on a quest to find the best fish tacos in all the land. I have to say, everything I ordered wAs delicious, from the margarita to the guac (we had the roasted chile guacamole and it was very good). The fish taco was great, a good serving of fish, the slaw was perfect and the tortilla was not too heavy. I used copious amounts of their hottest sauce which was not super hot, but hot enough to give the tacos that extra kick. We also ordered the Taco of the Day, which was a shrimp taco with pineapple salsa and a sriracha drizzle and that was an amazing taco. Outside of those, there were three vegetarian taco options and a couple of unique meat options that sounded like they would be good. Will absolutely go back.

This place was cool! I liked the environment and the food was good! I was equally satisfied with the service. Our waiter was sharp, knew the menu (as his reccomendations were great), our drinks were full, and he was friendly. We started our lunch with nachos and beef, followed by a Cobb Salad with fish, kids chicken tacos for my daughter, and I had the steak & eggs. My wife said her salad was great, my daughter seemed to like the chicken tacos and tortilla chips (she ate them both), and my steak & eggs was good (borderline great). They had just a bit too much of the sauce. It seemed to dilute the steak. I'd go here again. They have an outside patio with a great east mountain view. Plus it's in a great part of town.

I feel like my options are keeping it short and sweet or extrapolating so much that I get banned from Yelp forever. Short story: DELICIOUS. Really incredible food, awesome ambiance, and the service is top notch. I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant and can't wait to go again.

My family and I visited this restaurant for the first time last night for my birthday and I must say we really enjoyed it. The wait staff was great and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The food was delicious. We ordered nachos as a starter and for the main course my husband chose the daily special tacos and I ordered the steak tacos, and we shared. Both were amazing and tasted of great quality. We also went with margaritas that were really good. They have a small kids menu that our children chose from. One got a quesadilla and the other a bean and cheese burrito, both were served with chips and a drink. They don't do anything special for birthdays, but I was fine with that it was just nice being able to sit out on their patio and enjoy my evening with my family over good food and drinks. We will definitely be back.

We keep coming back and this place continues to make the yummiest tacos ever. We recommend getting the taco if the day if you can. Enjoy.

So, not super impressed. Got pork belly- meh, not good toppings, and I would have expected handmade tortias. The GOD was weird, with balsamic? The chips were heavy. Nice waiters and the lentils were very good...but not very studded with veggies.

Was headed to a different restaurant but saw this place and stopped. Great duck quesadillas and the guacamole of the day didn't disappoint (balsamic glaze was amazingly delicious). We tried the Angus beef, pork carnitas, and pork belly. The beef was delicious, the carnitas were good but not great. The pork belly taco is perfect for someone who likes to try the sauces. My only wish is that they had a la cart tacos instead of 2 at a time.

I'm updating my review again! Just had a great meal and the best service. The roasted guac, queso and fish tacos were all amazing. Everyone in our party of 8 loved their food. I think Taqueria 27 has worked out some of the kinks and food is more consistently good. I'm happy!

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. This place is almighty. We went there on date night last week and honestly could not have made a better decision. They have a wide selection of tacos and guacamoles, and they always have a "Taco of the Day" and a "Guac of the Day". The Guac of the day was life changing. Habanero, Pineapple, and Cucumber. If it were a person, I would get it naked and made love to it. The Taco of the Day was delicious as well - fried chicken, bacon, and a chipotle ranch sauce. I adored our waitress - she was super friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. It is a tad bit pricey, but worth every dollar! I'll definitely be back, hopefully sooner rather than later!

  • Allison O.

Once again. I gave it several chances. Several. Overpriced for portion size and quality. Kept waiting for them to knock my socks off. Didn't happen. The clincher for me was that this time, I spent the entire meal listening to the manager talk smack to the people at the next table about others they used to mutually work with. Completely unprofessional, he was certainly not doing his job, and so loudly that my date and I were about to go approach him but he disappeared into the kitchen and we didn't see him again. I will not be back and I will certainly be telling my friends.

This sunshine filled little restaurant is pretty good. The kids loved the horchata and it came in handy little spill-proof cups. I ordered mole with seasoned beef. The beef was tender and cooked perfectly medium. While the sauce had good flavors it was milder than I prefer. They did provide us with hot sauce. The kids got tacos that looked beautiful and worked great for our picky and more adventurous eaters. The waiter messed up on our order and we got extra chips. My lentils and beans were watery and needed more seasoning. Overall pretty good and kid friendly.

3.25 stars...not enough to round up to 4 stars. This restaurant puts an interesting twist on Tacos. Our group had the following: quesos with turkey chorizo and chips ($10), mole with grilled chicken and rice ($12-$13?), 2 duck tacos ($6.75), 2 grilled chicken tacos with avocado ($6) and ... I forgot the last one. Pro's: Unique twist on tacos (albeit a pricey one). Unique ingredients (duck taco? Swordfish taco??) Ingredients seem fresh and higher quality than a normal taco place Hot sauce came in small shot glasses Presentation is pretty nice Con's: Pricey for what you get ($6 - $7 for 2 tacos) Portions are on the small side Taste ... seemed pretty good but not great...I'd rather get a taco from El Paisa in West Valley. Decently decorated, service was ok.

  • Phyll M.

So the carnitas are totally killer. Very succulent and delicious. I had the grilled steak with didn't even compare to the carnitas. Four stars only because I chose the wrong protein. Guacamole was excellent. Great anniversary dinner.

  • Carla B.

We had the G.O.D., guac of the day, it had watermelon in it, delicious! The tacos of the day also delicious! The same goes for the duck confit quesadilla! Hand crafted margaritas! Perfect!

  • Michelle K.

Taking a star away. Served tacos on dry, cold, likely frozen tortillas. Our whole table complained about quality this time. Not sure I'll go back, as the service really sucked this time. Not taking a chance, with the prices they charge.

    (3)
  • Dane K.

Very good chips salsa guac and tacos. A solid go to for the aforementioned. I would leave mole up to specialty restaurants so will or comment on those. Great drink selection and outdoor eating area. Will eat here again.

Painfully slow service! & average heat & serve food. The staff seems completely untrained and oblivious on how to to properly work in a restaurant. They are are friendly though

The roasted guacamole is sooo delicious!!! I also recommend the citrus pork tacos. The taco of the day is always adventurous and different. Highly recommend this restaurant. Fun atmosphere, great service and even better tacos!!! I'll definitely be returning soon!

Unlike many of the other reviewers, I didn't have a problem with the price point. It's not Taco Bell, after all. They have more "gourmet" type ingredients and concoctions, so it's not going to be a late-night sack of tacos for two bucks washed down with a few quick shots of cheap tequila. This is a place for small dishes to share and exotic tacos to sample, while taking in the mountain view in downtown Holladay. That said, I wanted to like the place and I thought I did for a few minutes. There was a special lamb taco of the day that was pretty good. But after all was said and done (or I should say "scarfed down"), I realized most of the fare was... okay. My initial joy was probably due to my starving after a long day at ComicCon. The pork belly tacos were all right. The guacamole was adequate. It wasn't bad at all, but it wasn't exciting either.

Wow. We came in with a group of friends for a Birthday party and told them we would have about 12 people and ended up having 16. We waited patiently for almost an hour (which we expected) for our table. When we were finally seated at a table of 12 it didn't accommodate our party of 16. My boyfriend went to find an end table to so we could all be seated together and the manager was not having it. No reason other than a power trip. Absolutely unacceptable customer service. The manager Ivan accused my boyfriend of going around the restaurant grabbing chairs and a number of other things and finally told us if we don't like it we can leave. The door is right there. Wow. Never going back and suggest you don't either.

We ordered the roasted guacamole (supposedly the most popular) and it was incredibly under-seasoned and unimpressive. The avocado was good but that's all it tasted of, none of the supposed flavors of the description. Pleasantly surprised after the lackluster avocado, the brunch eggs with lentils and beets was quite enjoyable. The eggs and vegetables were cooked to perfection, and albeit underseasoned, was still a good dish that i enjoyed eating. The horchata is quite tasty. Overall everything needed more lime and salt and more seasoning from the beginning of the cooking process but I would eat there again.

Mmmm Taco's. The pork belly tacos are well made, delicious with a great smoky flavor. The vegetarian pear tacos are light and refreshing. The chili beef taco's with cactus are my favorite so far. The serve a taco of the day and a guacamole of the day. Each type of taco comes in orders or 2 or 4. I wish they would do 3, because 2 is just not enough but 4 is a little too much. Pricey but delicious

Wonderful dinner. Delicious salsa and guacamole, taco of the day was fantastic, great mole too. Lots of fun choices on the menu. Our server was very good, and even ran after us to bring the to-go boxes we left on the table.

Came here few times, taste is OK I think food is over priced for what you get. Service is a bit slow, food is not that great but OK. The drink are good they do that the beat.

My friend and I met here for lunch and it was the first time for both of us, so we weren't familiar with their menu which is very different from the usual Mexican fare. She had the yummy and huge (even the small size) Cobb salad with creamy tomatillo/cilantro dressing. I ordered queso fundido with grilled mushrooms and corn chips. Delicious! We also had mini steak tacos. Lots of things to try next time!

I think two tacos for $6.25 are overpriced (seriously!) but I will admit that they are so fresh tasting and delicious, that I'm willing to pay the money from my pocketbook! I love love love their salsas too!!!! As a salsa-maker and lover myself, it makes me happy that they have so many different kinds! I am a repeat customer for sure!

We went to T27 for date night. The restaurant is beautiful and the over all atmosphere was gorgeous. Great for a date night but still casual enough to take the family. The food and drinks were fabulous. We started with some chips and salsa which did cost $3 - a minimal charge although I think that some free chips is more of a way to go. I had the duck confit tacos and the wild mushroom taco - both were super flavorful and each ingredient was high quality and well showcased. My husband had some pork and chorizo tacos and loved them as well. I found the taco sauces and salsas to be well flavored and quite delicious. My husband wished there was more heat in even the hottest ones however. The drinks tasted great but they were small - even for shaken margaritas. But they were very good as far as taste, balance, and quality. For dessert I had the churros with chocolate and cream. The perfect way to end the meal. They were light, crisp and sweet without being overly sweet.

We visited for brunch and were presented with a brunch menu but I was really in the mood for some of their vegetarian taco options (which I've had at their other locations). The waitress seemed a little annoyed when we first asked for the taco menu but after explaining that we were vegetarian, she said it was no problem. We ordered the vegetable and a grilled fish taco of the day. They were both very tasty & affordable.

  • Kristin H.

I heart this place...crave it even. I've tried so many tacos...traditional, carnitas, fish, specials...but the one that keeps me coming back is the PBLTA. Crisp pork belly in a handmade tortilla, cool tomato, creamy avo, and crisp lettuce, all topped with a gentle, mild jalapeño crema. And the house guac with roasted garlic and balsamic reduction (which shouldn't work at all but completely makes the dish)... just writing about it makes me want some right now. It's worth traveling to... And worth returning to. Just go already. You'll be glad you did.

I always thought sushi was my favorite food but for some reason I seem to eat so many damn tacos. Up front here is my reason for my 4/5 star review: space. There newer location in Holladay has more room than this location. However both location is similar on service, staff and food so I choose to go to this location if I'm closer to down town. The food: You think The Red Iguana has good mole? Try the Oaxacan. But, chances are that if you are like me you can't get past the delicious tacos. 9/10 times the taco of the day is a home run. But my go to is the turkey chorizo and the P.B.L.T.A (think bacon). Also if you like to imbibe try the watermelon jalapeño margarita. Just trust me. The staff: No messed up orders, no delayed orders, friendly people. The building: As mentioned before the building is a little cramped but the place is always clean.

I dropped into the new Taqueria 27 in Holladay on Thursday for a solo lunch. I'd read mixed reviews here on Yelp, and thought I'd see for myself. I ordered the fish tacos, which were absolutely delicious. I was hesitant to order the chips and salsa, since it costs an extra $ 3, but I have absolutely no regrets. There were more chips than I could eat, and the two gourmet salsas were worth more than the price. I can't wait to take my wife here for lunch sometime. Looking forward to my next trip here!

  • Tim M.

I had the pork belly tacos and thought that they were pretty good. I also enjoyed the guacamole. They had a few different types that would probably cater to most people's taste but I was happy with the traditional. Chips were good. I guess the food didn't really blow me away and that is why I give it three stars. I would go back if I was invited but I probably would not bring it up. I encourage you to give it a shot at least once to see what you think.

  • Miriam P.

I love all the vegetarian options. I got the roasted pear/beet/spinach tacos and the mushroom/Gorgonzola/and leek tacos. I liked the mushroom ones better. The horchata was also very tasty. Will be coming back to try more dishes.

  • Heather B.

We have tried the brisket, beet & pear and fish tacos. All 3 varieties were delicious. Guacamole is tasty and salsa options were good. The Cobb salad was good but would avoid their cilantro dressing as it was very bland - the salad needed a little more flavor via dressing. They offer small and large options on most menu items which is great when one is not in need of a huge entree. The price point complaint on many other reviews is interesting. Their pricing is inline with similar quality restaurants in the area. Will definitely return to try more of the menu (including some great tequila offerings).

The food is awesome! The wild mushroom tacos are my all time favorite. The food is very fresh. Weekday nights are a great time to come. The weekends are crazy busy.

  • Dre S.

Food is tasty but wayyyyy to expensive! $11.50 for a 1/2 cup of Mango guacamole...seriously! Steak was very dry yuck! Also their sides are tiny! Very small portions for a lot of money. Not worth it unless you have no other options. The service was just ok. In fact the guy who delivered the food was soooo much nicer than the waitress.

This was our first time here, and as Holladay residents we were curious to see what this place was like. My first impression was that the interior decor and furnishings are of higher quality than the myriad other Mexican restaurants. We were shown a table right next to the restrooms, and no one should ever be given a table there until every other one is taken. On a Thursday night, that was not the case. That's not thinking of the customer. I asked for a different table which was done without objection. However, they forgot to tell the server in that area about us as we finally had to flag down a server and ask for service! As we looked at the menu I could see why they can afford to make the place look so nice. The prices are very high and the shown in the now-common but affected way of just numbers for prices, e.g., 6, 15. Like others have pointed out, don't expect free chips and salsa while you wait; you pay! And they're pricey, like all the starters. We both ordered tacos and shared a small Cobb salad. The salad was a good size and reasonably flavorful. The tacos, well, they were OK. The Angus beef tacos were overcooked so the beef was more tough than tender. Not bad, but not great. Just OK. Kudos to the server who finally came to take our orders. He was very apologetic about the delay and very good-natured. He even gave us a free dessert to make up for our troubles. The Tres Leches was good, maybe tasted better for free! The other servers and hostess at the front desk all thanked us for coming as we left, a nice touch. So overall, average food with a high price tag, and a great recovery for the slack service initially. Very unlikely we'll go back.

I love this place. Incredible roasted Guacamole. Awesome tacos- Brent and Citrus Carnitas. My wife loves the Mexican Cobb with the Chorizo with both the cilantro and blue cheese dressings. I love the fact that they have locations on Foothill, downtown and Holliday.

  • Sam F.

Cleverly constructed and presented tacos that taste good. Not large quantities (which may be a good thing for a country that struggles with obesity). While I really liked the interesting and tasty tacos, the prices were simply too high considering that the setting is fairly sterile and has a chain restaurant feel. (granted, it is a chain) Will not return because the value just isn't there.

  • Jonathan H.

I have eaten here twice and tried different tacos every time. I have probably tried 4 different tacos in total and have been amazed by everyone. The jalapeno beer is a little odd, and I would recommend ordering until you try a sample. The quesadilla appetizer was completely unexpected and delicious.

Diamond in the rough here. We all ordered 2 different flavors and shared around. Every taco was amazing!!! Wonderful use of flavors. We had flour tortillas for all of them. We had the duck, chicken, pork, and mushroom tacos and they were fantastic. Very reasonably priced. Loved the Jarritos. Service was EXCELLENT! skip the churros, I've had better.

  • Kara H.

After a few visits I have tried just about all of the tacos. Unfortunately I found most of them very bland. I'm a wimp when it comes to hot sauce, so I never put any on my tacos. Maybe that's the secret to making them more flavorful. I must say their different guacamoles are delicious, too bad the portions are small.

We are here on a weekly basis, we should have some elite MVC ranking by now. We love this place! Do yourself a favor and double up on the green salsa, it is incredible. There is always a guac, meat & fish taco of the day, their fried fish is excellent. Good margs, too. Yes, the tacos are a little pricier, but they aren't your typical tacos and in the words of another Yelper, "it isn't Taco Bell after all". I must say the veggie tacos have great veggies in them, but are on the bland side and leave something to be desired. However, I can't think of anything else we haven't enjoyed. Of course we will be back, probably like, today. Love having T27 in the neighborhood!

The highlight for me was the Guacamole of the Day (GOD). I am usually not a guac fan, but I always like to try the things that a restaurant is known for. This guac in particular had blue cheese, jalapenos and watermelon in it. Man, it was amazing. It was definitely more on the pricier side but didn't feel like I didn't get my money's worth. We also ordered the kids bean burrito for our daughter and it was literally the best bean burrito I have ever had. Good food. Great service. Definitely worthy of going going out of your way to try this place.

  • James W.

Friendly staff and tasty food. It's a bit pricier than I'd like, but you definitely get what you pay for. The ingredients are simple but well paired. My favorite drink (so far) is their house margarita. They offer a "long pour" on most (if not all) of their drinks for an extra dollar, which is cool. Definitely makes me feel like a rebel here in the land of absurd liquor laws.

  • Natalie B.

We went here with a few friends. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had a good heat to it, however, thie chips were very bland. All I could think was "I need some chipotle chips with this." I shared 2 tacos and a mole plate with one other person. It was a good amount of food. The special was by far the winner. Mashed potato and pulled pork in a taco. I got the mole Verde and was not impressed. It seemed to be very runny, more like a salsa not mole. I will be back for the tacos for sure.

  • Maceo L.

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Was looking for a small table to attach to our parties and was scolded like a child and then when I showed my discontent with the manager Ivan's attitude towards me, he told me he doesn't like to be told how to run his business and told me where the door was if I didn't like it. Literal words out of his mouth. I almost lost it but bit my tongue since it was a friends birthday. I will never go back and recommend you don't either until they get new management and ditch Ivan.

  • Collin B.

Love the green salsa with avocado in it. They have an incredible taco that was on special the other day with pork medallion and mashed potatoes. Amazing. Need this on the menu all the time! Great service. Good beer selection and of course, tequila.

  • Evan L.

Laughable how many people think their food is "great." Great atmosphere, decent to sub-decent (but extremely nice) staff, and totally average food (if you are used to food outside of Utah). Have been here twice and the food just would never cut it in a major city. Under seasoned, out of prime or unripe ingredients (guacamole is almost tasteless), which is likely the biggest issue. It seems the actual recipes may be solid but without top notch ingredients the food will just be meh. Please start buying and choosing your inputs better (especially tomatoes, limes, and avocados) and I'd bet the quality of output would go up automatically and dramatically.

I eat here several times a week as I live within a block of the restaurant. I've also had two private events here. The service is great, manager Julius is attentive and always says hello. The pork belly tacos arre my favorite and I've had them over and over. The prime steak tacos are another fav. I love the taco of the day, quacamole of the day and fish of the day concept and frequently eat the specials. The service has always been top notch and Jackie is my favorite waitress! Great beer and tequila selection. And the decor is original and spectacular. A keeper for sure and on my regular rotation.

Update to my last review: upgraded from (a generous) 3 stars to 4 stars. We decided to give them a second chance after a very disappointing first visit. Firstly, the food was much improved. First visit we arrived within 45 mins of their closing time, and they weren't all that busy.. So when the tacos tasted like they'd been sitting around for a bit, it was probably because they had in fact been sitting around for a bit. On this second visit we sat at the bar adjacent I the kitchen, and the food was clearly cooked fresh, it also arrived to our seats 30 seconds from the kitchen. BIG difference. Secondly the service was better. They had better routines, and I think they've added staff. Whichever it is, or both, they were busy but dealt with us very professionally. BIG improvement. One swallow does not a spring make, but Tacquaria 27 has certainly earned turned things around.

Awesome food!! I started out with the mushroom tacos and then moved on to the steak mole dish with pinto beans and rice. Both were great, but half the mole dish with rice and beans are coming home with me for later tonight.

duck taco is pretty good--would recommend this item from the menu +nice, clean place +good duck taco--meat doesn't taste gamey +pretty building +good queso dip -: pricy for value compared to local taquerias -: sauce that they gave was pretty bland and that's what I judge taqueria on -: no complimentary chips, salsa like many taquerias we've been to Recommend if you like fusion taquerias, not if you want some authentic Mexican food.

Very disappointing. After watching the building being built, my friends and I were anxious to visit the restaurant soon after its opening. First of all, since the parking is to the west, it took many flights of stairs (including one ridiculous flight going down and then one going up) to get to the front door from the parking. There were no signs directing us to the restaurant until we face a few doors that were in the restaurant that told us to go to the least convenient door of all on the east side. It was not ADA compatible at all. The service was very slow and we watched several servers at a time lined up at the window to pick up their food. It looked really weird with a crowd at the window - and we think it was due to the lack of chefs inside the kitchen. The food was bland at best. The salsas were mediocre, and we found ourselves dreaming of Rio Grande Café and its amazing salsa. We had to buy chips, which took forever to get to our table because they were "made to order" - which was not true. They were regular chips out of a large package from Costco, most likely. There were other problems with our orders, the servings were small and not that great. I talked to the manager and told him about our issues, but he didn't seem too concerned, since there was a lineup at the door ("Why" I ask myself?) I guess it is enjoying the "new restaurant in the area" syndrome. People will wise up and not go back unless they improve their service and mediocre food. I know I won't.

I am big fan of this place. The staff was super friendly and the food is excellent. Started with the chips and salsa with a small guacamole of the day. Tried the spicy salsa and verde. Both had a lot of flavor. And the spicy was actually hot. Which most places seem to have a problem with at least the places I have been before. And the guacamole was habanero, pineapple and cucumber. And it was my favorite part of the meal. We then went for some tacos. I had two of the fish of the day and duck confit. And just WOW on both of these. I could eat these every day of the week. I am already looking forward to the next visit. And it will be soon.

When I want a taco I'm first inclined to look for the closest street cart because I expect a certain level of flavors and spice.. Taqueria 27 was a great mix of clean delicious and different I had the escolar fish taco, the angus buffalo, the carne asada, pork belly..and tres leches dessert .. 6 tacos in all and I hated that I couldn't fit more .. The only suggestion I have is more spice but I know that's not always the norm so for my liking this place gets a solid 4.

Meh.. is a great way to describe this place. The staff was nice, the balcony really does have a great view, and they do have a great tequila selection. But sadly that's all they have going for them. Chips and Salsa @ $3 for two small ramekins of ok salsa, really should be thrown in for free for what you're getting. This could be the way to go if one were to be there for just drinks (more on their drinks later...) The PBLTA taco or Pork Belly, Lettuce, Tomato and Avocado was also ok at best. One would think pork belly would be more tender, but maybe I'm wrong on this. The flavor / seasoning was also just ok. And if there was any jalapeno mayo it was just as bland as there verde salsa I got earlier with the chips. Atleast they didn't call it aioli. Right and the tortilla..... well it's pretty much a mini pita. And now for the cocktails... in either case you could have added the word virgin in front of them. The $1 upgrade offering should have been a clear indicator of the level of strength to start. Instead of offering the upgrade, just go ahead and add the $1 to the starting price and make a real drink, the drinks were also served in martini glasses making them pretty small as well. T27 (their std margarita)....I've had many better, and their Salt Lake Sunset... nice color, but way too sweet. So... why would you come here? If you live down in Holladay, want a great view, looking for some American tacos and if you're into just straight tequila. As I noted earlier if you've forgotten, they do have a decent selection of tequila.

The mushroom tacos with steak were fantastic! I love the little onion shoe strings and the steak was worth the $3.50 extra. Guacamole of the day with blue cheese and balsamic was light on the add in's. Excellent service and the sauces were spicy, I appreciate the heat!

It's......okay.! Yuppie Mexican food trying to be a night club. Wrong location for that. The place is a little small. Good guac, decent food but not into the atmosphere. Might come back in summer to check out the patio

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant/taqueria in Salt Lake City, and the best part is that it is within biking distance from my house. I have enjoyed every dish I have had at T27 from the mole to the tacos. I absolutely love the guacamole and the hot sauces. Everything at T27 is flavorful and unique. The atmosphere is great too, casual, Mexican and modern, the perfect mixture. T27 is by far one of my favorite restaurants.

Amazing atmosphere and views. Great menu with different flavors. This is a unique place not your typical taco joint. Loved the mint drink...make sure you go ahead and get the big margarita. So wish I had room for tres leches. There are multiple entrances which was confusing. The bus area was a mess with too many people there. We sat outside and loved the view. Would go again

I've been to this location three times now, and the other location once. First, it is great to have some new restaurants in Holladay. Awesome things about T27: great margarita selection. For a $1 you can get a long pour, so it tastes like a margarita that actually has tequila, unlike most drinks in Utah. Their tequila selection is huge, and they have a pretty decent line up of beers. The more unique tacos always seem to be the best. For example, I had a fried chicken and water melon taco that was amazing, but the pork belly is pretty mediocre. The guac is great, especially the more exotic flavors. Verde salsa is oh so delicious. And unlike previous reviewers, the chips are definitely homemade. I've made them several times myself and could easily tell the difference. The price is certainly high, but then again, duck isn't cheap, same with avocados. Let's not forget that it is not a hole in the wall and has great ambiance (yes you are probably paying a little bit for trendiness). My husband and I generally can get out for $35 pre tip, which seems reasonable for a dinner out. Negative things: service could use a bit of an improvement. The last time I was there the waiter said that he wasn't able to split the bill (they have split the bill the other three times I was there). But more importantly, he told me that I did not get a refill on my salsa, which is plain wrong, even the menu says so. Thankfully, he consulted later with someone else after I was quite insistent that I always got salsa refills and fixed the problem. He was mostly apologetic, but it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, this place is a breath of fresh air to the mediocre food available in the Holladay area and is a nice addition to downtown. Order the specials and you will not be disappointed.

It was not what I was expecting. Surprisingly good and creative/original food. In my opinion it's a little over priced for what you get. But the food was on point

Within walking distance from my house. LOVE the specials. Just had steak and potato tacos with special buffalo sauce. Sounds strange and tastes amazing!

Amazing atmosphere and the best margarita s in town! I always make a point of trying the taco of the day and they have been consistently amazing. It ranges from steak and mashed potatoes to bison burger. If you want innovative food that comes wrapped in a tortilla, this is the place.

First off, if you park on the west side of the building and enter from here, you will be walking the whole length of the place to get to the hostess stand on the east side. And this place is 3 times bigger then the Foothill location. The hostess obviously didnt want to seat us outside as she quoted a 10 minute wait. Really? funny because plenty of tables and I dont see anybody else waiting but whatever. Our server was one of those as you are talking she cant seem to get out of there fast enough so half the stuff we wanted I was telling her as she was walking away. You know you have had a server like this and it's very annoying. The T27 margarita is awesome and worth the extra shot or I believe the long pour. The nachos for $6 can't be beat. My go-to tacos are the Pork belly tacos but on this night they were more fatty and chewier. The fish tacos are always very good. I will be back and hopefully I can score a table on the patio.

I was excited to see that Taqueria 27 was offering brunch on the weekend. Nothing makes me happier than Huevos Rancheros and a mimosa on a Saturday morning. Thus I ordered the T27 Rancheros. I like just a teensy bit of spice to my food, but I am not your best spice-anista. My first reaction was "holy cow my mouth is on fire." A sentiment shared around the table. Another sentiment was "this is delicious, but painful, but delicious." As many of us were carefully eating (I think I cried, twice) our friend who ordered the chicken and "donuts" (donuts being churros) remarked that they were "a tasty doesn't feel like it is going to kill me chicken and waffles." Overall the food was great! A few of us may have appreciated a little more of a heads up on the level of heat we were getting ourselves into as me walked away with mouths on delicious fire. The friend who ordered the chicken says he is getting the huevos next time.

We were a party of 5; waited 20 minutes on a Saturday for a table. Younger crowd attracted to this place. Noise level was surprisingly tolerable. I actually could carry on a conversation from across the table. The local beers were a good value. The mixed drinks were just ok. If you're hungry, definitely order the large portions. The small salads were nice sized however. I'm certain that everyone was working hard, but the service was a little slow. Although the food was of good quality, the portions were small. $3 for a soft taco as big as the size of the palm of my hand. Overall, not bad, but for mexican food.

I love Taqueria 27! I'm not a huge fa. Of Mexican food, but they won me... Their food is original and so yummy! They have so many different option of tacos. They have the taco of the day which is a surprise and it's always a very pleasant surprise. The customer service is great and I love the decoration as well. The only con I would mention is that it's usually full durkn weekends, probably a consequence of its good quality. Other than that it's a great place to go on a date or to spend family time.

    (4)
  • Brandy D.

I have been here numerous times and I always enjoy my times there. The reason I didn't get 5 stars is because sometimes the service isn't that great. But the tacos are amazing....I've seen other reviews saying it was pricy but u get what u pay for. They use quality ingredients and always have a taco and guac of the day. I've probably tried almost everything on the menu. My favorites are the fish tacos, the Mexican Cobb salad-my fav!, the queso fundido, and the churros. If they happen to have the tres leches sweet potato, be sure the try that!

Second time at T27, first at the new location. We enjoyed everything we ordered which included the nachos, the butter leaf salad, roasted guacamole, and four different varieties of tacos. The turkey chorizo is my favorite. Even though we did not order from the tequila menu, my husband says it's impressive. Yes, the food is pricey, but delicious.

  • Katie C.

Food is amazing but service is terrible. The one at foothill has good service but we've gone to the one in Holladay 4 times and have never had good service. This time we were seated, then waited 20 minutes for someone to come greet us or bring us water or SOMETHING but literally felt like we were invisible. The server was at the table next to us clearing plates several times but never said one thing to us. We ended up just walking out... Quite frankly I doubt they even noticed. And it wasn't even a busy night!

  • Bradford J.

The Holladay location is a great new venue with beautiful views of Mount Olympus. We waited 25 minutes for a small, tasty guacamole appetizer (no complementary chips and salsa at T27) and 45 minutes for our food. My wife got a chocolate and cinnamon infused mole with a side of tasty lentils. I got a large order of small tacos: two with beets, blue cheese, and grilled pears (tasty!); two with the fish of the day and some pickled red onions (very good). Good food, slower service.

Had fresh tomatoes from their own garden tonight. Delicious!! Menu simple so they do a few dishes very well not a lot of different dishes that are mediocre. Guacamole of the day and taco of the day are usually excellent !

I love this place! So delicious! My husband has celiac and it's hard to find places to eat that are gluten free and have good gluten free protocols and can trust that my husband won't get sick from eating here. We came here once and they gave us a complimentary dessert that was incredible. Love this place!

Went with a group of friends to the new location downtown. Everyone had something different and we shared chips and salsa. The drinks (margaritas of course) were really good with interesting options. My only recommendation would be to provide more salsa with the chips - I don't understand why, when you order chips and salsa you receive a bunch of chips and two tiny bowls of salsa. We will be back and look forward to them adding an outdoor space.

The have tried this joint twice in the few days it's been open, both times with large groups ordering a variety of tacos, mole plates, apps, drinks. The food is interesting and fresh but some orders where a little bland. The service both times was really slow - we had to have another waiter track down our waiter to get drink refills and they both seemed annoyed by that. Both times we stayed for over an hour and only got one drink refill. They also messed up the check the second time and took twenty minutes to figure it out and fix it as our party waited at the door to leave because it took so long to split the check and bring it to us in the first place. All in all, I'm not sure the food is good enough to overcome the service issues, but we plan to let them work through their growing pains and try again. Pros: Good variety Food is prepared interestingly Cons: Service Not family friendly

Great food, great atmosphere, delicious drinks and a friendly staff. The fact that my gluten free hubby can eat everything on the menu is a huge deal to us. Easily one of our favorite restaurants. We've tried nearly everything on the menu and love it all.

The place is very popular and so plan on a 20 min wait on most evenings. Kids in our group didnt care for the nachos (they expected melted chedder and swiss) . We had one order of tacos that came out cold. They replaced them with great hit tacos and took it off the bill. All the rest of the food was great and a pretty good value for such delectable dishes. It's a great walking destination for Holladay residents.

Todd Gardiner???? You mean that chef dude that i used to see on fox every Wednesday back in the day??? That guy owns this place??? Well kudos my friend cause these are some of the best tacos I've ever had and that is saying a lot since i now live in Austin and have great tacos everywhere. Already looking forward to my next trip back to Utah!

I tried this place out last night with a group of friends and as we walked in at least 7 different parties were discussing how long they had been waiting. We put our name down and they said an hour and the group behind us laughed and said try more like two. At least 6 parties in front of us left leaving the hostess awkwardly calling for no one for the next 20 minutes. It sped our waiting time up though! We sat down after 30 minutes and enjoyed the food. The staff was very casual and kept telling us to order bc of the long ticket wait. The food was great and well prepared but the guacamole came with like twelve chips so ask for extra!

  • Dallas M.

We showed up on a Wednesday night and there were plenty of seats at the bar, but because there were people on the list ahead of us who could potentially ask to be sat at the bar we ended up sitting out the 35 minute wait for a table. Once at our table, the service (john) was great. The alcohol options were impressive and the menu had a lot of options but by no means overwhelming. After years of eating mole at Red Iguana, I really expected a bigger portion out of the Amarillo mole and carnitas plate. The pork was great and the mole had good flavor, but I left the restaurant rather hungry. My girlfriend tried a fish taco as well as a chicken taco. She is a huge fan of fish tacos (lonestar) but had a hard time finishing this taco. While the chicken taco tasted great, the chicken was cold. Unfortunately I do not think we will be back.

The roasted guacamole is excellent, as are the grilled pear and beet tacos. Try the T27 margarita if you drink... My boyfriend often gets the fish of the day and it can be hit or miss, so I usually opt for other stuff and I've never been disappointed. The wait is never very long and the staff are all incredibly friendly.

Took the fam here on Mother's Day 2014. We didn't have to wait for a table, which was nice. No complimentary chips and salsa and they charged us $2 for salsa for the food. I had a super small margarita which was a pricey $11.00 (Vegas poolside is less and you get a bigger marg). Guac of the day was delicious, but also pricey at $12, with very few chips. When ordering tacos I gave the server my order, and then changed it because I found something more to my liking, but the server, Jaclyn, brought out two orders: the first ones I ordered and the ones I ordered after changing my mind. She didn't apologize or take them back. She just gave me an awkward smile and walked away. So, $65.00 later, and I would have to say I won't be coming back or recommending this place to friends. The tacos are good, but can be found for a lot less and with nicer service.

We ate here for lunch on Sunday. Great service, all the servers were very attentive. I got the citrus pork carnitas and my husband got the Oaxacan mole with grilled beef. They were both very good. They serve Coke products which was a huge bonus for us as well. Our daughter got the kids quesadilla and chips which was a good portion for the money. We don't live close but will definitely come again when we are in the area! Excited to see they have remodeled this part of Holladsy as I grew up coming to this area and love it!

It was a fun place to go with friends but I was still hungry after my tacos. Street taco servings but not street taco prices. I got 4 tacos and I left feeling like I could eat 4 more. Go for the time you spend with friends not to get full.

Overpriced for Mexican food and very small portions. The drinks were overpriced as well with a shot cost as high as a Rave Bar..

Mixed results in the first visit. Food would get Four Stars, service and beverages between 2-3. Tacos are solid...angus beef and carnitas extremely good. The salmon, not so much. The lentils were a nice alternative to traditional rice and beans...but if you order tacos, keep in mind that NO sides come with your order. The adult drinks are...odd. If you are offered a "long pour" what you are getting is nothing more than the standard 1.5 ounce. Back in the day, a "long pour" meant a double...which I do not believe is legal in this fine state. If you do not order long pour, your cocktail contains .5 ounce. Which manages to dampen the bottom of the glass, and little else. I believe in responsible consumption...but Utah has plenty of checks in place, without resorting to what we used to call a "drive by" pour. The service was distracted and not particularly interested in our table... Definitely will go back. The food is worthwhile...and I have learned the lesson of their very long tequila menu: Don't expect much.

We frequent the original Taqueria 27 in Foothill about once a month, and thought we should try their sister location in Holladay and it's safe to say, stick with the original. The recipes are the same, but the food is flavor profiles are definitely not the same. The flavors in Holladay were flat. We got the mushroom tacos, the pear tacos and the fish of the day. The mushrooms had none of the cartelized flavors and were very undercooked. The pear tacos were missing the Gorgonzola and the fish (escolar) was under seasoned. And even the Tacqueria27 beer on tap, was flatter and warmer. We'll stick with the Foothill location.

  • Lori K.

The most overpriced street tacos we've ever bought. A meal for two with drinks over fifty bucks..... For tacos. At least get the fish because it's worth the price. Everything else was over priced down to the chips n salsa. The staff is pretty on it, but overall impression is hipster tacos with high prices!

  • Renee R.

When reading the other reviews left for this place I'm so surprised there aren't more 5 stars. Everything was pretty great about this place from the customer service to the food. Our waiter was fantastic and always a step ahead. The tacos (between the two of us ordered carnitas, fried fish, calamari, and duck confit) were amazing. So unique and flavorful. Really like nothing I've had before. Would definitely recommend!

I really want to like this place but I just don't. You can't enter from the only parking lot, you have to walk around, down the small flight of stairs and back up again, to the front of the building. Inconvenient and annoying. Want chips and salsa?? $3 please. That includes one refill only. The menu is sparse and a weak attempt to make hip Mexican dishes. Tequila is served in .5 oz increments and is way overpriced even for a restaurant. The food was mediocre and you have to ask for hot sauce, which, for us, came in a dirty serving thingy like they took it off of another table and brought it right over. If you want to try this place for yourself you'd better hurry, I predict they won't be around for long.

    (1)
  • Cindy H.

Meh. Have to agree with other poster that the food is bland, bland, bland. I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered the spinach salad. Had to add hot sauce to it for some flavor. Can I just get some damn flavor at this place? This is not a restaurant that I would go rushing back to. My husband's fish tacos were cold. The queso appetizer with chips was good. The view of Mount Olympus was excellent from the patio, hard to get a better view anywhere else. Wish there was a bar within walking distance......

We ordered the tacos of the day. They were delicious and a refreshing take on a taco. We also ordered the guacamole of the day. It wasn't very good. My wife and I love guacamole and the menu stated that it was made fresh. We are almost positive that it was not. It tasted like Costco purée consistency guac with their extra ingredients added. It wasn't bright green and lacked fresh flavor. The tacos were good but at that price point, we probably won't be back very often. The guac was a real let down

    (3)
  • Gus L.

We thought the tacos were very good but the guacamole was bland. The restaurant being new, is very clean and the view from the patio is gorgeous. Our biggest complaint was with our waiter, Adam. He was extremely arrogant and down right rude. I tried to explain to him that my wife is gluten intolerant so he could help with her order. Something that I do in every restaurant because they know which items are gluten free. When I mentioned to him that she is gluten intolerant he barked back, "we all have our battles". If you decide to try this place out, definitely stay away from this guy. By the way, we tipped him accordingly.

We love the tacos and guacamole at T27 and were excited to try this new location. On the plus side, it's much easier to access with ample parking. That said, there should be a greeting station where you park and would naturally enter at the back rather than having to walk all the way around to the front or thorugh the restaurant to the front. There are signs on every door you are not to enter, and the extra steps to get to the host only to then go back through the restaurant to your table seem unnecessary. We had the beef fajita tacos and one of the guacamoles from the menu with bacon and gorgonzola cheese as well as an original guacamole that was delicious. The service was not ideal. The host kept leaving his station to seat people and then people would come and have to wait as we did. It would be nice if the host could stay at the station and then have available servers also greet and seat. There were plenty of servers around to do that. We were asked by our server if we had been there before - and I guess since we had - they skipped over telling us about the specials and other details that we heard other tables got from their servers. We were brought three different oils with a spoon. We asked what it was for and the reply was whatever we want. If they are going to the trouble of making a special service piece for the three oils, it would be nice if we knew what they were and what they were for. We tried dessert and likely won't do that again and stick with the taco and guac that are their specialties. All in all, while the food is good, the service makes all the difference as to whether we will return again or not.

This was my first visit here. It didn't take us long to get seated on a Saturday night. It was a spacious location. I didn't feel like I was on top of other people. My boyfriend and I ordered: DRINKS: 1) The "Rosa" 1800 Silver tequila, a blend of citrus juices and pomegranate liqueur over ice GUACAMOLE: (Ripe avocados smashed to order and served with fresh corn chips) 2) Traditional -Jalapeno, tomato, red onion, cilantro and lime (Size Small) TACOS: (All tacos come on T27 corn tortillas unless specified - tacos come two or four to an orde) 3) P.B.L.T.A. - Pork belly, lettuce, tomato and avocado with jalapeno mayo in fl our tortillas (four for $13) 4) Duck Confit - Succulent duck with fire roasted veggies, chipotle crema and crispy leeks (four for $13) I REALLY liked the guacamole. I thought the small size was perfect. My favorite taco was the Pork Belly. The Duck was also good, just not as good as the pork belly. I can't wait to come back here. I think everything was reasonably priced. Our waitress was attentive. She brought my boyfriend a soda without asking. She also offered us spicy sauces which I enjoyed the "Green" hot sauce. It was mild and really good. I can't wait to come back here.

  • Tammy N.

  • John C.

I'm updating my review again! Just had a great meal and the best service. The roasted guac, queso and fish tacos were all amazing. Everyone in our party of 8 loved their food. I think Taqueria 27 has worked out some of the kinks and food is more consistently good. I'm happy!

So the carnitas are totally killer. Very succulent and delicious. I had the grilled steak with didn't even compare to the carnitas. Four stars only because I chose the wrong protein. Guacamole was excellent. Great anniversary dinner.

We had the G.O.D., guac of the day, it had watermelon in it, delicious! The tacos of the day also delicious! The same goes for the duck confit quesadilla! Hand crafted margaritas! Perfect!

Taking a star away. Served tacos on dry, cold, likely frozen tortillas. Our whole table complained about quality this time. Not sure I'll go back, as the service really sucked this time. Not taking a chance, with the prices they charge.

Very good chips salsa guac and tacos. A solid go to for the aforementioned. I would leave mole up to specialty restaurants so will or comment on those. Great drink selection and outdoor eating area. Will eat here again.

I love all the vegetarian options. I got the roasted pear/beet/spinach tacos and the mushroom/Gorgonzola/and leek tacos. I liked the mushroom ones better. The horchata was also very tasty. Will be coming back to try more dishes.

A keeper for sure and on my regular rotation.

duck taco is pretty good--would recommend this item from the menu +nice, clean place +good duck taco--meat doesn't taste gamey +pretty building +good queso dip -: pricy for value compared to local taquerias -: sauce that they gave was pretty bland and that's what I judge taqueria on -: no complimentary chips, salsa like many taquerias we've been to Recommend if you like fusion taquerias, not if you want some authentic Mexican food.

Meh.. is a great way to describe this place.

  • Robin D.

Great food, great atmosphere, delicious drinks and a friendly staff. The fact that my gluten free hubby can eat everything on the menu is a huge deal to us. Easily one of our favorite restaurants. We've tried nearly everything on the menu and love it all.

The most overpriced street tacos we've ever bought. A meal for two with drinks over fifty bucks..... For tacos. At least get the fish because it's worth the price. Everything else was over priced down to the chips n salsa. The staff is pretty on it, but overall impression is hipster tacos with high prices!

  • T P.

    (3)
  • Cindy H.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
