I am hoping as this restaurant works out its forgivable service flaws, I will continue to be a bigger fan. Great location and great patio seating. I have really enjoyed the food for both lunch and Sunday brunch. Their biscuits are to die for. They come complimentary with their Sunday Brunch, however both times I have been for Sunday brunch they ran out of biscuits before we arrived. We had to wait until the end of our meal for them to be brought to our table as we had watched enviously as the customers around us enjoyed theirs. The food is all prepared with great fresh and healthy ingredients. I had less than competent service by both waitresses on two separate occasions. I look forward for this great cafe to work out its service quarks, because of its GREAT atmosphere and food.

This place is on my list of guilty pleasures! It's has been around Holladay for years and it is completely obvious why! The butternut squash soup is the perfect addition to any ill weathered day. It's warm and flavorful. With a tore apart roll for dipping, you don't need much more. Personally the apple and Gorgonzola salad is my favorite! The candied walnuts are the perfect combination of sweet and savory, followed by the crisp crunch of the Granny Smith apples... Mmmm perfection! Now the desserts- well let's just say you can't go wrong! They have everything from mini key line pie, smores brownies, butter cream frosting cookies and even macaroons! My recommendation for a birthday or celebration cake is there chocolate cake. It is so rich and chocolatey a sliver of a slice is all that is required!

This place used to be one of our favorite go to places. So sad that now we won't rush back any time soon. The service was absolutely terrible. We ordered 2 salads & 2 cups of soup to go. This was around 3 pm and there were only 3 other people sitting at tables. The young man taking our order was so confused & there wasn't anyone working the front counter to help him. We waited over 30 minutes to get our food. When it came, they had forgotten the soups & that took another 10 minutes. Then we were handed our food and had to ask for a bag to out it in. Very poor service, although our food was good, but not worth the wait & frustration.

The food is great. The desserts and pastries are AMAZING. The service is epically bad every single time. I've liked everything I've had here...deli sandwiches, quiche, burgers, steak and chicken entrees, soups and salads. Everything tastes fresh and flavorful. And then there are the desserts. You can't go wrong. My favorite is the almond dean and the fruit tart with chocolate on the bottom. But really everything is divine. But just plan on incompetence at every turn with the wait staff. They are beyond slow no matter how busy or not busy they are. You used to order at the counter so you would just wait a millennia to get your food. Now you order at your table. They take forever to take your order. Usually you have flag someone down and ask if you can please order some food. Yesterday we waited for 15 or 20 min in an empty restaurant before we finally walked up to the counter and asked if we could order. The girl, in her most exasperated tone said she would send someone over. 10 min later we were graced with the waiters presence. This happens every time. We keep coming back for the food.

Getcha Hot Cross Buns here! Get 'em while you can. Basically, a fancy dinner roll with raisins and a citrus glaze. Delicious. The staff was nice.

This place is a fantastic value with a $25.00 multi-course meal. The food is always good and the desserts always amazing. That said. The newly installed fluorescent light bulbs are the overly white ones which cast a very harsh light across the restaurant to where my eyes felt like they were straining with the brightness. There are other fluorescent or led bulbs without that problem. Lastly. I wish they would figure out where the flies come from. This time of year only a couple but sometimes there seems to be a lot of them. More than would typically be expected.

Had a breakfast meeting there...was fine, Got the breakfast panini...nothing special. Pastries did look tasty, but was too early for my palate to think about sweet stuff.

Rebecca was a horrible waitress. The slowest waitress I have ever had. The service was terrible. Usually I love breakfast at Normandie but this time I was very disappointed.

I was happy to see the doors back open today. The new owners have kept all the charm that I have experienced in the past. Very friendly staff and great food. Had a hard time choosing what to eat. Defiantly worth a visit!

Nice Ambiance.. Limited menu. Good place for an early evening date. If one were to expect a perfect little French Cafe on the foothills with delicious pastries and buttery hot food made from scratch, one would definitely be disappointed. The desserts are extremely off mark. But, the Cafe scores well in terms of location and spaciousness. I would definitely have this as one of the frequent food joints (despite the horrible coffee and the limited menu options) purely because of access, simplicity and lack of will to try anything new. This place has the potential but does it have the will?

The cafe is under new ownership and has already started to turn things around from the terrible service that it had even when I went a month ago. Not to mention the coffee was way better. I drink my coffee black so it's pretty easy to tell good from bad, and now it's finally good. Thank god. Onto food I guess. I have a diet which restricts me from eating any carbs of any sorts most the time and typically when I tell a restaurant this, they screw up my meal carelessly. However, here, the new owner came out to talk to me, asked my preferences and said he'd have something made special. A few minutes later I had a salmon salad so good I didn't even need the oil and vinegar dressing, and carb free like I asked. Basically, gluten free, paleo, clean eating, or whatever you do, this owner knows how to whip up anything.

We went here for brunch and received one of the worst service so far. The server switched the orders of the to dishes we ordered. And then she was rushing us out of the restaurant in a very rude way. We arrived at the restaurant 2hrs before close and 1hr after she said she needed to cash us out. She started clearing out our table even though we were not done eating. I showed her that the website and this app was showing they close at 4pm on Sundays, she said they had new management and they now closed at 3pm. This place has ok food, but with service this poor I'd not recommend it to anyone. Avoid being disrespected by a server that doesn't have a clue about how to politely communicate to patrons and how to serve.

  • Jennie A.

Poor food and very poor service. The food is very bland and didn't come with everything that was stated on the menu (no fruit cup) and no bread basket. Ten minutes to have a server come to take our order and 20 to get our food (omelet and breakfast sandwich with the wrong bread that I ordered). Not much flavor. You can make better at home.

This place was pretty good altogether I'd say. I ordered a French Onion Dip but they were out of Roast beef so I ended up with the Chicken Marsala Dip which was really good and it came with fresh rolls and skillet potato chips. Overall I really enjoyed the food and location of this place.

This is perhaps the very model of inconsistency. What they do well, they do very well (mostly bakery type stuff) and what they don't do well...they do remarkably poorly. Several case in points here. On the good note, the decor is fantastic, maybe the best interior color scheme and decoration overall of anywhere, other than the exhaust streaks on one of the walls by the vent. Quite a lot of opera goes on across the overheads. That wonderful ambiance, however, is tempered by both an agonizingly slow service and waitstaff (inexplicably, as they had nearly as many staff as patrons when we were there) and a high degree of tackiness. Look, I get it; restaurants use Jif and they use Hershey's chocolate and they serve up 20 oz.. bottles of Coca-Cola products and so on, but having all of this on display when I go out is the last thing I want to see. If I'm paying to be served, I don't want to see the same things as when I open my refrigerator or cupboard door. This is frankly a stupid practice on the restaurants part, as those common items have a price also commonly known and it's the easiest thing in the world to compare what you're being charged vs. what you paid for it at whatever grocers you bought it from. Restaurants should at least have the appearance of "specialness" and they spent such an exorbitant degree of time and money on the interior decor, it's baffling they would choose to ruin it in that manner. The theme (obviously) is French, which is fine, so I thought to order crepes. Evidently the kitchen staff got their countries mixed up because instead of the light crepes I wanted, I got much heavier and somewhat chewy Swedish pancakes. Perhaps the worst stroke was the Crab Eggs Benedict. They served it on a biscuit, which I didn't mind as the biscuit was awesome, but the egg yolk was mostly solidified on one and entirely on the second. The Hollandaise was also heavier on the lemon side than I normally like. I get that they also have a crab and asparagus omelet, which uses the same Hollandaise and where this over-lemoned aspect would be better served, but I didn't order that. Potatoes that came with were acceptable, but nothing special one way or the other. My wife got the breakfast sandwich, loved the bread, thought the bacon was ok, hated the egg inside. She found the coffee to be marginal at best. My son got the buttercrisp waffle, which was again done well, particularly when combined with the chantilly creme and the raspberry sauce, which was itself also great. If I was in the area again, by chance, I might consider it, but I wouldn't drive to this place. We were there when they should have had a line out the door, such as every breakfast place worth anything does in Sugarhood, but this place was maybe 1/4 capacity and that might even be pushing it. It definitely got no higher than 1/3 full the whole time we were there and it was even less by the time we left, yet even getting the bill took an unreasonable and excessive time. I don't know how long this place has been there, but I might check back next year to see if they've gotten all of the kinks worked out and there's plenty that they need to. This has a ton of potential, but when it takes us 10 minutes in a mostly empty place to get a 1 page single-sided menu, then another 10 minutes before someone can be bothered to offer us drinks or take our order off that incredibly simplistic thing, something is very wrong...even places that are jam-packed do better than that and if this place wants to be jam-packed, it needs to also.

I'm always impressed with this place. They have good huevos rancheros, benedict, and baked goods.

Went for dinner tonight and the service was horrible. The teenage servers were more concerned about chatting with each other then the customers. Had to tell them we were done and needed our check. Could not order a glass of wine because there was no one over the age of 21 to serve. The food was mediocre and just warm, not hot. The cheese on top of the French Onion soup was not melted and the cheese was not melted in the grilled cheese. Not worth the money at all.

We went for Sunday brunch/lunch and there were some definite high points, but some points that made me wonder if they were aware of basic Restuarant management. There were a few tables filled when we arrived, and the host asked us where we wanted to sit and then proceeded us in the part of the Restuarant that no one was seated and away from the warms of the fireplaces. We had the opposite experience with wait staff, I do believe that we were the last table the girl had before break and she was constantly there. As my husband put it, it was fine 3 minutes ago, and we see still eating.... It is still fine. We both ordered the half sandwich and soup combo, and we were definitely pleasantly surprised. I had the crispy chicken sandwich with the butternut squash ginger soup. The soup was amazing!!!!! My husband had a turkey panini with the lentil soup, and he was very much a fan. We then meandered to the dessert case to take home some goodies, and they were average. Nothing that I will willingly pay $4 for again. The nutcracker- a tart like thing that resembles a pecan pie with many variety of nuts was worth the price, the other desserts were not. My husband ordered a German chocolate like brownie, a chocolate almond cake that was dry and probably had been in the case for too long. We will go back, they had decent enough main dishes, and if all else fails, the soup was very much like panera's from the east coast.

Third time(over 3 years) I have dined in at Normandie. We went last night and the service was still HORRIBLE, just like the previous two times. The food is good and that's why we decided to give it another try, but after last night, we won't be back. We walked in shortly after 7PM. We were the only customers in the restaurant, got seated and waited and waited for the server to take our order. I finally got up and asked the girl working there if we had to order at the counter, she said we could but it doesn't really matter and then the server who seated us told us he would take our order at our table. The kid brought our food out and didn't come back to check on us the entire time we were there. He forgot to bring out my soup so I never received that and my husband wanted Ketchup for his fries, which he never got and we needed refills on our waters also. We finished eating and again, waited while we watched 3 of the 4 people working there stand around each other and watch youtube videos on their phone, the other kid was on his break eating at a table. We asked the kid on break for boxes because the other ones were still too busy chatting and playing on their phones to do their job. Keep in mind we were still the only customers there! Husband finally walked up to the counter and asked to pay, when the soup was on our receipt we told him to take it off because I never got it, which he did, but then made a comment like "Oh, I forgot, usually a salad is enough of a meal"... Since when do people not order a soup and salad?! Husband called the manager today and he was very nice and apologetic, admitted to having service issues but was sorry we wouldn't be back.

The food is good but the service is so poor. I've been there several times in the last three months but each time the service is worse than it was the time before. Sad for such delicious food

Just picked up a luscious fruit tarte from here for a party. The price, however, really surprised me. We were quoted one price over the phone a few days ago when we placed our order. We were charged several dollars more when we picked it up. The reason? "Um, we raised our prices...yesterday." The party starts in an hour, so I paid the extra. Be warned -- if you order something from here, the price they quote may not be the price you're charged! Shouldn't they have honored the price they gave us over the phone?

I think the food is amazing here! I've had the chicken salad croissant and It was probably one of the best chicken salad I have ever tasted. The desserts were on point! I got the tart for myself and the smores brownie for my bf. the only downfall was the guy taking my order. And not so bad where I would never come back but he certainly wasn't helpful. He made me feel like an idiot w some of the questions I asked. Otherwise a great place!

I got the eggs Benedict and it was delicious. Even the muffin it was on was excellent. The atmosphere is great and the staff was very friendly. This is such a fun place for a girls' day, I definitely recommend it!

I love Normandie's! It's one of my favorite places to relax with family and friends. The atmosphere here is great, I'm glad they relocated to someplace bigger! It's pretty open with windows all around. I normally share the chicken croissant sandwich and a cup of their french onion soup. For dessert, I'll get the almond croissant, yum! One downfall is how busy they can be. I've been there several times where we have to wait a while to order, but I think it's worth it! Food 5/5 Service 4/5 Atmosphere 5/5 I can't wait to go back!

This use to be one of my all-time favorite lunch spots...after yesterday, not anymore. I felt like things went downhill after they left their cute, cozy spot and moved to this location. It's weird that when you walk in you're greeted by a server who puts you at a table but then you have to go up to the counter to order. Every time I've been there for lunch, I can easily find myself a table, take a number and go find a seat. I really don't need someone to help direct me to a table. Yesterday was the final straw for me at Normandie. I ordered the gorgonzola and apple salad with their butternut squash soup. After a few minutes a waitress came out to tell me the soup wasn't available but that they have a corn soup available and they'll refund the cost of the soup since they didn't have it. Sounds great, right? No. After finishing my salad the soup finally arrived and was luke warm at best. They said it was their soup of the day so why wasn't it warm? Weird. Did I get a refund for my soup? No. Apparently they forgot. Like I said it hasn't been the same since they moved and their service and food isn't doing anything to make me keep coming back.

Normandie is a pretty typical neighborhood bakery serving up all manner of bread goods, breads, soups, sandwiches and salads. By all appearances it should be a pretty decent place to have some lunch or get a quick snack. Instead Normandie is rather disappointing, with mediocre food and bad service. The first time we went there I had the chicken with wild rice soup. It was pretty tasty but nothing special. With anything you order Normandie will bring you a basket of bread, usually consisting of two hard dinner rolls and two breadsticks or something else. This bread is pretty dry and not particularly good unless dipped in soup. With my soup I also ordered a croissant because I wanted to try one. The croissant was in one word, disgusting. It had a sort of rancid butter flavor and was the worst croissant I've ever eaten. I love croissants and to be honest I've had better from Costco. On a return trip I had the roasted chili pepper soup. The soup was pretty good at first but the flavor become boring after awhile because there just wasn't much diversity to its taste. My brother had the same soup and a salad on this visit and found both pretty mediocre as well. Mediocre food coupled with disappointedly slow service and expensive prices leaves me thinking Normandy is in need of some serious improvement. I would really like to love this place because they seem to have so much that could be right... However after a few bites my mind quickly changed.

My daughters wanted to eat here, so we did. The French onion and butternut squash soups are delicious. I tried the frittata which was cold and flavorless. The pastries are great.

Don't let the under new management fool you! Worst experience ever again. Waited forever to have or order taken. Them waited forever to get our food. Was told by the waitress that they are making a new batch of soup and it would be out shortly. When the food arrive the butternut squash soup was so salty there was no point in eating it. Once we were able to flag the waitress down she walk off with the soup and than we proceeded to watch her work the front counter with the soup at her side. We sat there for 20 min. waiting on the out come of are we going to be offered something else or what? I flag down another waitress and proceeded to tell her the issue. Well she said I told her to take the soups off the ticket. I proceeded to tell her shouldn't the waitress should of come back and let's is know before she assisted other people at the counter? Well this other waitress does not own anything. She basically told the soup is the way it is and oh well. I will never return. I have waited table for years and I can usually give the benefit of the doubt when there are issues. But it clear that they are not about making things right nor do they except any responsibility. The whole experience was a 2 hour ordeal.

Yum! I went here for the first time today to get my 3 yr old his special twice weekly treat. He got a cookie and I got a brownie and then because of a army wife shirt I was wearing they gave me a german chocolate bar for free and told me to thank my hubby for his service. I was impressed they did that it has only happened a few times and not here in UT. The cookie and brownie were yummy. I will be going back for more treats.

Okay breakfast joint. The place was empty and service was pretty lackluster. I ordered the berry marscapone French toast and thought it was not excellent. Also, I'm not okay with paying $8.95 for two pieces of bread with eggs and jam. My husband had huevos rancheros and was equally unimpressed. We were pretty turned off and didn't try any pasties. I won't be coming back here.

If you're from Holladay, you know Normandie Cafe. If you're not, get yourself to the east side, and get a sandwich, a brownie, or some quiche, and get to know the Normandie Cafe. At the recommendation of the staff, I ordered the black bean burger with sweet potato fries. "Is it beef, or black beans," I asked, dubious about a menu item that seemed designed to trick me into something vegetarian, and therefore gross. "No beef, but look-I don't like vegetarian," he said from under his fedora. "And I love it." Ok. Fair enough. If it's good enough for him, perhaps it would be good enough for me...I decided to try it. Let me tell you: it was awesome. The bun was soft, but had been toasted on the inside where the burger sat, which added a crispy element to the bean burger that kept me looking for bacon. The bean burger itself was delicious, soft and firm all at once. A slightly spicy dressing topped it off, as well as fresh toppings. The sweet potato fries weren't to shabby, either. Quite the contrary, in fact. I'm not a sweet potato fan, not at all, and I found myself going back for one fry after another. Lest I forget, I suggest you order a brownie to go with the meal. Although there are many delightful looking treats behind the glass at Normandie, we ordered a mint brownie. Gooey fudgey, topped with a soft mint spread, and the covered with a more firm chocolate shell, I found myself wishing I hadn't opted to share with My Better-half. I could have eaten several more pieces. If you've not enjoyed lunch at Normandie, take a trip over to Holladay, and try it. I think you'll find yourself pleased with the result.

I came here because I kept hearing people say it was delicious....and they did not disappoint! I got the red velvet cheesecake, cheesecake isn't even my favorite....BUT THIS WAS HEAVEN. It tasted like a mix of red velvet cake, brownie and cheesecake. I also got a lemon bar it was perfectly lemony. Can't wait to go back and try other treats!

This wonderful little restaurant and bakery is modeled after so many French country bakeries and does a good job of capturing that feel. There is seating outside the restaurant, seating inside or you can get your order to go. Inside you are able to discover the display cases full of wonderful confectionery treats that will surely satisfy your sweet tooth. Most of the fare is baked goods with some sort of chocolate or fruit addition. Fruit tarts, cake, brownies, and much more and made fresh daily. The éclairs are divine, these small, elongated, cream-filled pastries filled with cream-puff pastry dough and topped with a sweet icing. There is a sort of chocolate chip cookie with a flaky texture shaped into a biscuit like rectangle, topped with a clearly unhealthy chocolate frosting that was scrumptious. As for the food the Tilapia was delicious served over a risotto like creation. The contrast was wonderful and the baked, crisp out shell of the fish added a nice crunch. As much as I love salmon and wanted to order the salmon, this was well worth it. The salads are fresh and made with nice dark green leaves. With regard to comments about service, we never experienced any waits, or issues, and neither did any table near us, so I would disregard those comments of poor service. They have entree specials but they go quickly on the weekends so if you want to try something new, you may have to go earlier. They also have soup and quiche specials. I saw almost every table have the french onion soup on it so that might have been a hint about its popularity. If I weren't so particular about dolling out five stars I might give this place just that. The restaurant has a nice casual feel to it and I'm certain you will enjoy it.

A friend and I had dinner here, and the food was mediocre - at best. Service was terrible. Our waitress refilled my water glass once throughout the entire meal. Very overpriced for the quality of food and service. I was disappointed, because the bread and pastries have always been so good. We didn't even order dessert.

Only tried the croissants. Good but not great. Tried the regular, the almond, and the raspberry cream cheese. Pastry wasn't light enough and had a sweet taste rather than a buttery taste. Will go back to try the menu items

Bakers De Normandie has been a Holladay favorite of mine for years, but it wasn't until coming back to Salt Lake City for Christmas and New Years 2011 that I had a chance to visit the new location. I'm glad to see that it hasn't missed a beat. The pastries are as flavorful and delicious as ever: my personal favorites being the Almond Croissant and the Raspberry Cream Cheese-filled Croissant. Delicious. Beyond that, the location itself is a great place to linger over a good latte with a good friend.

I have been to this place even before they moved to this new location. The butternut squash soup is to die for, it's sweet as butternut squash should be, but ginger makes it balanced. The cookies are not only candy to the eyes, but they used chocolate coating instead of sugar frosting, not to mention the cookie deco changes through out the year. It's nothing like those regular sugar cookies. Sandwiches are nice, but I wish I can just order their chips only, because it's very thick and unique, maybe a little burn once a while, but different. However, I didn't give it a 5 star because of two reasons. #1, there are constantly flies inside the restaurant. I dare to order their cookies because they leave it outside on the counter and you can totally see how much those flies love the cookies.... they pretty much touched every single one of them. I don't understand why won't the staff put the cookies inside the glass shelves. #2, there is no service what so ever, as a regular, I have to remind them for water, buns, coffee refills.... One of the waiters seems to be more interested in having a conversation with the customers more than offering services, which could be a little annoying sometimes.

Ok I've been back there a numerous times now and I have to say my 4 star review is guarded. The pastry selections are a crap shoot really. They are either spectacular or plain good or below average, you just don't know what you're going to get until you try it. Almond / plain croissant - excellent Cheese danish - yuck! Brownie - good German chocolate brownie - good Scones - generally good to very good (some other things I will have to update on later) Various specials: Pumpkin (for Halloween) baked fruit cup thing - excellent Other small baked fruit cup / pies - average A chocolate easter egg cake with chocolate frosting - not so great By the way let me state that my street cred for pastry taste and tasting goes a long way back to many trips I have taken in Europe - Belgium, France, Germany, etc etc where I ate many different kinds of pastry and lots of it! :) For example, I will try that new Belgian waffle place near Caputos soon and render judgement remembering what it was like to them in BELGIUM!!! :) And yes I have eaten pastry of all kinds all over the USA!!!!

I walked in seeing pastries and sandwiches! Which is wonderful for the average person! But I am gluten intolerant, so this makes it very difficult! I was looking through the menu thinking "oh no, there's nothing to eat". But the owner of the store over heard me asking about making a sandwich bun-less. She completely accommodated my order and gave my a BLT salad (instead of just bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes on a plate) with funnel dressing! I had never heard of fennel dressing until this day; it was amazing!! It had the slightest after taste of anise, but not over powering! This was a very delicious salad! I highly recommend Normandie!

I would give it 4.5 if that was possible. My bride and I ordered a salad and a veggie sandwich. The salad was world class, the sandwich was ok. The staff is good at taking care of you till you get your food but then they ignore you. Well, the prices are reasonable and the register really doesn't encourage tipping, so ... One gets what one pays for. My bride was pleased is enough to plan a return trip for their $25 dinner special for two. I will let all y'all know how that goes!

I just discovered that Normandie bakes the hard to find "Kouing Aman" a rich buttery pastry from Brittany, France. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Kouing Aman ~ it's a crunchy, salted caramel on the outside and gooey and flakey on the inside bit of baked goodness. Now, I no longer have to drive to downtown SLC to get one. BTW - don't ask any of the "Parisian" type bakeries if they have them - the baker will raise his chin, look down his nose, and state (in a haughty French accent) "We do not bake peasant food from the South of Frraaaance here Monsieur!"

LOVED IT! Delicious pastries, and the 2 for $25 deal is great. Nice portions. We tried a bunch of stuff from the menu and everything was tasty. The only thing we weren't thrilled about was the Shrimp Scampi, just a little bland. Everything else was so good!

The soups are all delicious. The pastries are great too. The pre - made sandwiches are just ok but the made to order ones are awesome specially the turkey bacon club. I wish they had fountain drinks and not just bottles.

Saw a sign hanging recently on the building, "under new management". Finally tired of slow, inept service, we tried the Egg And I across the street. We have never been back. It may be that this, "new management" spent some time visiting the Egg n I to see what restaurant service is all about ! Sorry to say, what great potential, fizzled for us. The old management, I am certain, did not train the servers at all !! We will check on this place again and see....

Like most Holladay residents I am very familiar with Normandie Cafe. We love it. The service is usually a bit slow and the chairs are not very comfortable, but, the food is good and the choices are broad enough to satisfy most tastes. The baked good are extraordinarily outstanding. The seafood Luis salad is excellent. The French dip is great. I have tried almost every item and they are all good.

In its favor: seriously great food. I've had beautifully executed plates of food from the kitchen, including a burger that really hit the spot. Many more of my visits, though, have been for the baked goods. Impressive cookies, flaky, buttery croissants, great chocolate mousse, and a decadent almond and pear tart are at the top of my list. Their full-sized cakes are absolutely worth your time and stomach capacity as well. On the downside, I've had some pretty mediocre table service when eating there. Every time we've eaten there, I've felt like I had to flag down servers rather than have them come to me. Service aside, though, there is much to like here. The locals clearly agree, too: I've never been in the dining room alone, regardless of the time of day.

Ate lunch here with my wife. We both absolutely love it. Had their garlic burger and it was excellent. Definitely recommend coming here. Unless you're lazy and you have a problem getting up to order after you sit down.

Wow, I hate to give this place a one star review but sadly they earned it. Normandie's has delicious breakfast, lunch, pastires you name it. The reason they get a one star review is for their service. They always seem to have about 5 employees to one customer but yet none of them can actually help you with your order. The last time I went to Normandie the girl at the counter spent 15 minutes chatting with a friend and when we asked for help she said "he was here first." I really like their food, but every time I eat at Normandie I leave frustrated and cranky.

If mediocrity was a prized quality, this place would be on top. Nothing was terrible, but at the same time, it wasn't great. Few things were even at the level of "good." For the quality, everything is exceptionally overpriced. If they accepted the fact that they are not great, and slimmed down the price, perhaps it would be worth the visit. I'd definitely skip this, and go for something actually deserving of my time, stomach, and money.

What a great experience! We were looking for a good place for a casual but tasty breakfast and stumbled upon Bakers De Normandie (thanks to Yelp!). We were apprehensive coming in as we hadn't yet found a good spot for the Sunday morning feed except driving up one of the canyons - but this place met the mark. Started with some very nice, and warm, almond muffins and biscuits while we were reviewing the menu. My wife had the berry french toast, kids had waffles & pancakes, and I had the huevos rancheros. All the food was quite good - especially the french toast if you like a sweet breakfast treat. Huevos actually had a small kick to them - again a pleasant surprise for SLC. Kids dishes came with fresh strawberries on them. Presentation on all meals was quite good for a casual breakfast. We had no issues with service that others seemed to indicate - though it was not too crowded (love the SLC Sunday). We have not been for lunch or dinner - but did take a look at them menu and seemed to have some well thought out options. No kid size meals were available - at least for breakfast - which is too bad since there were probably 5 families with kids in when we were there.

This place loses a star for being confusing. When you have a sign that says, "Please wait to be seated", it means you have table service. Sat for half an hour wondering how to order.

Okay I gave this place another try for lunch. There were definitely 100% less flies buzzing around my head this time so that is an improvement. We were greeted very well. The butternut squash soup was very good, my sandwich was just still alright. Their dessert display seemed a little sparse this time around but I got a chocolate mousse with cake on the bottom and fruit on the top - delicious! I will return to try their dinner.

Normandie used to be a cute little pastry shop that served other meal options! Ever since they moved the have continuously gone down hill! The service is terrible to say the best! When you enter you may or may not be greeted even though there is a sign that says wait to be seated, when they finally notice you standing there they tell you you can sit anywhere you want...After you look over their extremely lack of vegetarian options menu they ask if you are ready to order and then send you to the register to pay. The staff really lack customer service, they do not return to see if you like your meal, refill drinks or to ask if you need or would like anything else. The food is below average and isn't consistent on taste or ingredient from visit to visit. Anyone can have an off day but this is ridiculous!!! Today was the last straw!!! After lunch at another restaurant my daughter, mom and I stopped in to get a treat. They dint give us time to make a choice, they kept asking if we were ready and suggesting items. Before making our choices I asked what an item in the case was...the reply was simple answered as a type of macaroon. I told the girl I wasnt familiar with that one could she tell me what that meant? Her reply was its a French macaroon. Again no information as to what flavor etc...but instead she suggested a chocolate covered oreo. We made our choices and asked that they be boxed and rung up separately. She boxed a tart, the sugar cookies, and then placed the danish in a bag that then stuck ti the bag. My mom paid for her pastries and when it was my turn to pay the clerk said she had already rung them together! She then argued that I hadnt told her they should be separate. This was moms first visit to Normandies. She WONT be back! Especially when Leslies Bakery is just 2 blocks to the East of Normandies. They have great service and yummy treats!

Oh my goodness this place is a wonderful little nightmare. Every little pastry looks good and tastes even better. I'm partial to their fruit tart, but won't turn down their brownies, cookies, or any other delight in the case. They also have pasta salads, sandwiches, etc. which are good, but go for the dessert. A little pricey, but good for an indulgence.

If I were reviewing Normandie and excluded their baked goods, I would only give it 3 stars. I've been there for both dinner and breakfast. Because I like their desserts so much, I always expect their food to be amazing and I'm usually disappointed. It's good, but mediocre. On the other hand, I would give 5 stars to their baked goods. I've never tried something I didn't like. Their fruit tarts are great and if they have them, try their cupcakes. Instead of frosting, they dip the tops in white chocolate. Try anything with their chocolate ganache or mousse and you'll be in love.

Awesome pastries and coffee, friendly staff, upscale atmsophere. What else do you need to know? In a word: YUM
