I went to the Brass Door on a random Friday night. There were only a handful of people there, so there was no problem getting a table. I'll admit, I was a little hesitant to go in because it was so empty, but boy am I glad I did! First off, this place has pub food. Soups, hot sandwiches, etc. The Grilled Chicken sandwich was great, but the special of the day was fantastic. The special had a pepper/onion mix with sausage. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. The waiter was very attentive as well. They were out of the wine I ordered, so he spoke with the bartender before coming back with an alternative recommendation. I always appreciate when the restaurant staff does this, rather than just saying "yyeeeaaaahhhh, we're out of that, sorrrryyyyyy." The ambiance was casual and comfortable. Very spacious with a few TVs to watch a game. If I worked downtown and worked within a few blocks from The Brass Door, I would most certainly come here for happy hour and a few apps, or even to meet a friend for a drink to catch up. Ok, now I'm thinking about that sandwich again. Hopefully they will add it to the menu as a permanent item so I can order it next time.

Chef Scott Donnelly is back in the house (he was the original chef back in the day)! Woot woot! Their tagline is "Memphis' Authentic Pub" and I have to agree. You see, I'm Irish. I even have family (ok extended family) who still live in Ireland. And I've been to Ireland (love Dublin...I actually got more in trouble there than I did Amsterdam wink wink), so when I say this place is authentic, I have some reference. Why is it authentic, you ask? Well, for a couple of reasons. For starters, the building is an old bank building and the bar is one of the prettiest bars I've ever seen - old, wood, just like ya see in Europe. And when asked about the Brass Door, Seamus, the owner, said it was like going home for a little bit every day (how cute is that?!). Another thing I like about this place is that it is indeed an Irish pub...but it is an upscale Irish pub aka you could take a date or your parents there. And the food is yummy...and kinda fancy. I mean, they have the typical fish and chips but they also have the finer things like some bacon dish that takes 8 hours. Other Things You Should Know: Tuesday: 2 for 1 Fish and Chips Wednesday: Brass Door Bingo, $100 Of Prizes, $3 Wine after 7pm Thursday: Ladies Night, $20 Bottles of Wine and $20 Cocktail Pitcher Specials $3 Pints after 7pm, Friday: Happy Hour 11am-7pm Saturday and Sunday: Brunch 11am-2pm, $15 Bottles of Mimosas and Bloody Mary Pitchers Happy Hour 4-7pm Monday-Friday $1 off all pints (except Guinness) $1 off well drinks $1 off house wine

I had the Ruben on St. Patrick's Day. The bread was toasty, the corned beef was flavorful, not bland like most places, the cabbage was crispy and mild. It came with hand-cut fries that are so good that you might want to order them as a snack to go with my beer. The service was friendly and attentive

Wednesday nights Brass Door Bingo. Win Brass Door Bucks. If course the food is delicious. My favorite the Fish N Chips and the Reuben Egg Rolls. They also have an awesome BELT. That's Bacon Egg Lettuce and tomato.

Great little Irish bar. Again, one of my husband's finds from his move cross country. And thankfully, stumbling distance to our hotel. We walked in a bit later in the afternoon and there was already a healthy crowd. We were still able to find seats at the end of the bar. This is definitely an Irish bar: from the Guinness/ Harp on tap to the dark wood/ mirror behind the bar to futbol jerseys above said bar. We were greeted promptly and the bartender even remembered my husband from a few months before. After that we were made to feel like we were regulars, which is always nice in a strange town. We ended up staying all night, and I even won bingo once! If we ever travel back to Memphis, this is a must visit.

Great British Pub atmosphere, with really good choices of cold beer and great service. As a Memphian, I am disappointed I haven't been here before. We had the fried goat cheese and oyster appetizers, and they were both outstanding. I am a fan of fried oysters, and their preparation may be the best I have had. The Memphis Brewery Wiseacre Tiny Bomb goes perfectly with both of these appetizers.

Great little Irish restaurant and pub in downtown Memphis. The have traditional Irish entries like Shepherd's Pie as well as more American style options. Lunch runs around $8-11. The BELT - Bacon, Egg, Lettuce & Tomato is very large and excellent. Super flavorful, crunchy fries come with this sandwich. Yum! Arrive hungry because the portions are huge!!!

Stunning inside! Very good food. Had the fish and chips several times. Excellent. The reuben is very good, because they make their own corned beef. Nice selection in the bar. Great service. Best Irish pub in Memphis! Recommended.

The perfect Pre- St. Paddy's day venue. We had the traditional St. Paddy's corn beef and cabbage and a Reuben both were absolutely delicious and super fresh. The entire staff are warm and welcoming. Our Waiter very sweetly gave us cute and festive St. Paddy's party favors, after I complimented his flashing shamrock ring, beads and a miniature green bowler which my boyfriend called a monkey hat, that I proceeded to wear for the rest of the day. I can't wait to return and have the Fish and Chips, they looked amazing

Epic fail...out of Sheppard's Pie at 7PM. Since they were out of what we wanted to eat we went somewhere else for dinner.

We arrived in town late on Valentine's day and were looking for a chill place to get some dinner. The Brass Door was perfect! I had the burger with some tasty carrot-ginger soup, husband had fish & chips. House wine was good, particularly for $5 a glass. Nice atmosphere, and the bartender (who was also acting as the waitress) took good care of us. We would return.

I feel like this place has gone down hill lately. The service is pretty slow and you leave smelling horrible. There are a lot of places to go downtown, so.....

I wasn't expecting this place to impress me, but it did. Went by here after a Redbirds game with two friends; we were able to get streetside seating (on a Saturday night, big plus). There's not much of it -- but -- it's definitely worth doing so. Food was standard Irish pub fare; I had the fish and chips, and was pleasantly surprised. I mean, sure, it's hard to mess up fish and chips -- but -- these guys hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head. Service was really good as well; the server knew what he was doing and we were dealt with promptly and quite reasonably. Some nights, you just want some good bar food after a ballgame or when you're hanging out with friends. This is a decent spot for exactly that.

Picture this: weekend with 80 degrees. Grizzlies playing playoffs, beerfest on downtown.... We've heard good things and checked it out. Granted, we walked on as a group of 10. No problems getting seated. Another party of 10 was seated upstairs with us. Their menu is a little pub boring... Meh. Additionally beer selection was meh... No IPA anywhere. We preferred appetizers... And waited about an hour for them. We had the asparagus finally. Yuck. At this point we were getting restless... And here's where we found out the kicker. There were three staff on duty. One cook. One bartender. One waiter. Way to plan for a busy wknd. So when asked where our food was... 90 minutes into being there... They had no idea when it could be made. We all got up and walked out!!! When asked if there was a manager we could talk to... The answer was that no one was reachable. Epic miserable fail!!!

Love this place. Great atmosphere in an historic building, great service every time I've been in. St. Patricks Day last year was amazing. They've donated gift certificates for charity auctions and donated space for fundraisers. And the food, impressive even for vegetarian. Had fried goat cheese, brass door salad with beer vinaigrette, and roasted veggies, all amazing.

So, I kind of like the Brass Door, and I kind of don't. Let's start with the likes. The space, an old bank, is pretty cool -- not just your typical Irish pub in a house. The fried goat cheese balls (an appetizer) are to die for. For real, I think I could eat about four plates those those things all by myself. However (you know that was coming), in general the menu is pretty darn limited to a burger, fish and chips, and a few other fancier items, and it's a big step up in price from other pseudo-Irish bars with food. Service has been hit or miss, and while the space is nifty, it's also drafty, and I hate trying to hurry up and leave so I can quit freezing to death. And of course, being downtown, parking is a pain. Possible, but a pain. So honestly, while I think the Brass Door is fine, I probably won't be in any hurry to come back.

TERRIBLE SERVICE. The owner stuck his finger in my beer and got pissed when I asked for a new one!!! Like seriously!! I don't care to have your damn finger in my beer and then say "sweetheart I don't appreciate your attitude!" I didn't do anything wrong. I came back to this bar because I like the vibe but I will NEVER BE BACK.The owner insulted me with his condescending tone and I don't appreciate it. Dear bar owner, grow up, learn what customer service is and don't insult a paying customer. Jerk.

What an awesome spot! My boyfriend and I love trying new places. This was by far a great experience. Quiet, perfect bar to hang out, grab a good Irish beer and the Ruben is to die for. Great bartender Lee!

The best fish & chips in Memphis. Period. The fish is fresh, not frozen, and battered in house; so the texture is a light and crispy, and the cod is flakey and sweet. The house made malt vinegar based sauce on the side is a great pairing. Once again, this is the best fish & chips [I've found] in Memphis. (Tip: Tuesdays Lunch Special is 2-for-1 fish & chips. It's already reasonably priced at $10, so at $5 it is a steal.) The BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato) sandwich is a standard that is uniquely contrived at the Brass Door and worth trying, but the fish & chips is what pulls me back.

We have had several nice meals here. We love eating upstairs overlooking the restaurant (must be a pain for the servers to run up and down the steps, but they never complain!). They have good food and local beer on tap (always a plus). Try the fried goat cheese appetizer! it's amazing!

Called ahead of time to ask for a reservation for 8-10 people. They were very accommodating, setting up a section upstairs. This was the first time visiting - I live in FL, but was in town visiting friends. We arrived early enough to take advantage of Happy Hour until 8p which were 2 for 1 pints! I was excited that they had Ghost River on tap at $4 - nice deal for pints with a great selection of domestic and imports. As for the food, the chips (French fries) and curry were alright - nothing to get overly excited about. Entree's were delicious! The sandwiches were served open face - I chose the Tam O Shanter(name?) that was turkey served with a mornay sauce and covered in swiss with a nice big slice of tomato. Sided with fries. The bf ordered the reuben and he enjoyed it a lot. Cleaned the whole plate. We spent the better part of 4-5 hours upstairs. Our server was very patient and great with the group that filtered in and out through out the evening. Loved the atmosphere of The Brass Door. There is also a basement below for extra party rooms/area. TV's are nice flat screens to watch games/fights. Definitely recommend! Parking is available outside the restaurant for $10 (friday nights), or about 2-3 minute walk on 2nd - First Parking for $5 for almost 8 hours!

This place had street-side seating that all Memphians are demanding it seems as more restaurants accommodate our good spots of weather with parking easy to find. Plus. My immediate attention went to the REAL football (soccer for those in denial) games on the television upon entering. I freaking LOVE real football! Huge Plus! The food was typical Irish pub fare with some variety but little for the dieter or vegan. I got the steamed veggies, mash, and asparagus. They were seasoned, well-cooked, and tasty. The steamed veggies were finished with apple cider/malt vinegar profile typical of Irish and other British Isle cuisine styles as I was told that happy hour is all day on Fridays. Another plus. Yes, it does look like a dive. However, compared to other Irish pubs, this one reminds me of an English pub through my travels in Europe. Nostalgic Plus. The bartender was sweet, too. If I am downtown and in the area, I will go back. Just checking my math...1+1+1+1=4. Cool, they deserve it.

The sliders that I got from The Brass Door were a variation of its Brass Burger. It features a hand-formed beef patty with smoked cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and its best component, bacon. From the first bite, the taste of the "Mini Brass" really impressed me. The ground beef (cooked "medium") was flavorsome on its own, benefiting from good seasoning. But the thing that impressed me the most was the bacon, for its crunchiness and smoked flavor really stood out in the slider. In combination with the ground beef and cheese, the bacon makes the mini Brass Burger one of the better sliders in Downtown Memphis. Or it would be if it was on the menu. However, the full-sized version is available for lunch and dinner and worth checking out. I hope the slider makes it on to The Brass Door's "daily special" rotation. I feel it's worthy of it. Another entrée that I really liked from The Brass Door is the Fish and Chips, one of its most popular menu items. Small cod filets lightly coated with the Irish pub's ale batter, it came with dipping sauces (tartar and curry) and "chips" (hand-cut fries). By itself, the "fish" portion was quite good, but the dipping sauces really made the difference. The tartar sauce (if it is that) was quite tangy, possibly due to the presence of horseradish. Although a little watery, the tartar sauce added a sharp taste to the "fish" that I thoroughly enjoyed. As for the curry sauce, my feelings on it are mixed. If the sauce had the spiciness that I'm accustomed to, I might have liked it with the battered cod. However, the curry sauce was more on the sweet side and didn't fare well with me. As much as I try to keep an open mind, I couldn't accept eating slightly salty battered fish smothered in a sweet curry sauce. This is not to say that the concept is wrong, but it isn't my cup of tea (obvious puns unintended). The fries...err "chips" (which are the same that came with the sliders) were slightly crunchy and mushy with sea salt sprinkled on for seasoning. They complemented the "fish" well and tasted fine when dipped in the sauces provided. As a whole, the Fish and Chips were great (without the curry sauce) and will always be one of my favorite dishes there. SIDE NOTE: I wanted to talk about a genuine Irish dish that wasn't a Shepherd's Pie. Unfortunately on the day that I got the Fish and Chips, my server was only able to point out one Irish dish, the Tam O' Shanter sandwich. However, if I had checked out The Brass Door's online menu, I might have discovered the Chef's Special Entrée. The dish consists of braised lamb, onions and potatoes in a broth with soda bread. Although I'm far from being an expert in Irish cuisine, I'm guessing that this is the real deal. Maybe my server didn't know about this or it wasn't available during my visit. I will keep it in mind when I visit again. Overall, I enjoyed the two meals that I had at The Brass Door. Both were great and I look forward to dining there often. Given that it's an Irish pub, The Brass Door is also a great place to socialize while having a Guinness or other alcoholic beverages. The décor of the place is definitely within its intended theme (the pub was originally a bank) and is very comforting. The service is great and the owner Seamus (a real Irishman) strikes me as a nice guy, sort of in same the way that The Little Tea Shop's Suhair does. I hope the bar succeeds, which will buck the trend of failed restaurants that located on Madison Ave. between Second and Third streets. I will do my part to support it, and I hope others do too. Please read the full review at kensfoodfind.com/2013/06… and please take part in a poll rating the best sliders in Downtown Memphis at kensfoodfind.com/2013/06…

The Brass Door is a great place. Not only do they serve 'Palm' in a proper glass, with other nice, traditional Irish Taps, the food is actually good. Yes, really good in some circumstances. Fish and chips are great (btw, the chips or fries might be the best in Memphis) the shrimp on toast is amazing. OK, so maybe some things are not so 'traditional', but you will feel treated nicely, have some good beers and most likely hear some serious Irish accents in this place. I've never had a bad experience here. And, another btw, the chef gives a damn. And you can tell, because he'll come out and say 'hi', in between yelling at the kitchen staff. Go, have fun, and call a cab!

I stopped into Brass Door for lunch one afternoon. It's one of those places that everyone seems to have tried except for me. I have heard great things about both the food and the atmosphere, so it was time to give it a try. Since I went in during the week and on off hours, it was pretty slow. Other than one table of lingering businessmen (who obviously didn't want to go back to work), Scott and I were the only people sitting in the place. You could tell immediately this was an Irish Pub. Other than one or two beers, all the drafts were Irish. There was Celtic music playing over the loud speakers, and, with the decor, you feel like you just walked into Ireland. Someone obviously did their research before opening this place up. Our server greeted us immediately, told us about the specials and got our drink order. He was very sweet. I ended up choosing the I opted for the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, described as "Grilled marinated chicken breast, with lettuce, tomato and onion on toasted Ciabatta with Guinness mayonnaise". They had me at Guinness mayonnaise. Instead of "hand-cut chips", I opted for the sauteed veggies as a side. The sandwich was great. The chicken seemed right off the grill, and the Guinness mayo gave the sandwich a different kick than other traditional chicken sandwiches one may consume. It tasted fresh, and the bread was warm and soft. My only qualm were the veggies. Yes, they were sauteed. However, they were sauteed in copious amounts of oil. I could even taste the veggies due to so much oil. After a couple of bites, I quit. These couldn't be any healthier for me than fries, and, if that's the case, I would rather have the fries. Scott ordered the Tam o' Shanter, which is their traditional Irish sandwich. It is describes as, "Warm ham and smoked turkey on toasted brioche bread with Swiss cheese, Mornay sauce, tomato and bacon." He opted for the fries. That is one big sandwich. There was so much to it, that it was almost impossible to eat. It was also greasy to the max. Translated, that means this is the perfect hangover sandwich. The fries were great. They were crisp and had a fresh herb seasoning on them that made them different than normal fries. After we ate, our server invited us to their Wednesday Open Mic Nights. He says the artists are usually pretty good. There is a big turnout, and they have great drink specials during that time. I have not had a chance to go back yet, but I plan on it soon. Overall, Brass Door is the place to go if you are looking for a good pint or some greasy bar food. The nightlife also seems to be kicking, but I have not experienced that first hand yet. The service is snappy and friendly, and they make you want to come back.

This is a true Irish Bar where Seamus and Diamond Dave make you feel like you belong--whether you have a pint, 10 pints, or a full-fledged dinner. The food is great and a great value. The Tam O'Shanter, the Reuben, the B.E.L.T., the Fish & Chips, the chips and curry, and most of the appetizers are memorable treats. The beer selection is great and a solid pour comes with every mixed drink or glass of wine. It is the place to watch soccer (especially EPL and USMNT), a great place for groups, and fun on event nights like Bingo nights. It is a stunning old Public House, it is not smoky, and its neighbor-cousin bar, the Mad Earl, is a great addition to the neighborhood. It is relatively new, so it will get better and better as it establishes itself over the years--and that says a lot, because it is already a favorite.

The fries - excuse me, chips - are salty perfection. They're crispy on the outside and light and mushy in the middle. They're generously sprinkled with sea salt flakes, and they come with a side of curry dipping sauce. They're also good with ketchup. They'd probably be good with just about any dipping sauce. Or on their own. Whatever. Behind the fries, you'll see a sandwich. It's a wee tiny Cuban and it was the "slider of the day" when I was there. The daily special comes served in sets of threes. The Brass Door is open daily from 11 a.m. - 2 a.m. If you stop by, be sure to explore the extremely pretty building (it used to house a tobacco shop). If there aren't any seats on the first floor, head up to the mezzanine or to the "Cavern" - aka, the basement - big room with a stage for live music.

Stopped in with a friend for lunch today. Both had Fish & Chips. Just enough fried food to abate the cold beer and delicious Bloody Mary. The fish went well with curry sauce.thank you Seamus, David and Elizabeth for a good relaxing time!

I am a fairly open person, but this bar is so gloomy, a celtic type atmosphere. they were playing some sort of trivia game and the announcer had a strong accent of irish, i couldnt understand nothing that was goin on for the life of me...I dont know. i didnt see anything interesting on the menu so I asked the kitchen for a special order of grilled shrimp !! Those were to die for along with my infamous blue moon!!! other than that nothing special about this place,,, will not return

This is a solid lunch spot downtown. Salads are superb and I have had some delectable specials. The fish & chips are right up there with my favorites in Memphis. I even splurged on some bread pudding once - did NOT suck at all. I have always had friendly, quick service. I have got to hit this place at night sometime. I love the Jameson, which they seem to serve up right. If I can get a proper poor of Guinness or Smithwick's, I am one happy yelper. Stay tuned.....

I'm very upset with myself for waiting for my last day in Memphis to experience the Brass Door. This place has the absolute friendliest staff I have ever met. From the servers to the kitchen guys to Seamus, the owner of the place. I had the traditional Irish breakfast and I was not let down one bit. The black and white pudding was he best I have experienced in the states. From the beans to the mashers and even how perfectly the eggs were cooked. When I return to Memphis you will find me at The Brass Door. NO DOUBT. This is a must go! Thank me later.

This place looks better than the food they serve. This is the third time I have given this place a try and they are often out of their Irish dishes! Surprisingly, they had the Fish & Chips, which I decided to try. The food arrived tepid with soggy fries and oil saturated batter on the fish. Not good at all. My friend ordered a grilled shrimp salad. The salad arrived with cold, non-grilled shrimp, with a handful of limp salad leaves for $15, really? If they changed to be a beer and a burger bar, I would give it a higher rating. This is not a traditional Irish bar, beware!

Okay, so I've only been here once, but I am SO EXCITED to return! The Brass Door is everything I've been missing as of late. I had been craving fish & chips with a nice cold beer, and that's exactly what I got. The fish was buttery, tender, and delicious. The chips are stellar. They've got the right blend of crispy and mushy potato, and the right amount of salt. The beer (a Smithwick's, of course) was cold and satisfying. My husband ordered the traditional Irish breakfast, and he was 100% pleased. The service was great. Food came out in a timely manner, and our server was extremely friendly. The menu looks great. I was so set on getting fish and chips that I barely considered anything else, but that's just to give me excuses to keep coming back. We are so happy this place is here. Irish pubs are my most favorite thing in the world. This one ranks up with my favorite one ever. It's most likely going to be the go-to place before and after Redbirds games for us.

Went back here today for a late lunch as I was seriously craving their fish and chips. We were starving, so we ordered soups while we waited for our meals to arrive. I opted for the ham and bean soup, while my husband chose the special of the day- roasted garlic and sherry. I had my doubts about his choice, and was proven heinously wrong. Talk about having ordering remorse! A bowl full of heaven- delicious, creamy, garlicky fabulousness. My ham and bean soup was pretty fab as well, but I couldn't keep my spoon out of his bowl, and eventually we ended up swapping. Served with two toasted slices of Irish soda bread on the side, this soup was insanity. I wanted another bowl (or 5) when I had finished mine. I'm going to be stalking the Brass Door website and heading over here as soon as I see this special listed again. Unreal.

Only three stars for my first visit since the stew serving was a bit on the lean side. However, after last Friday's B.E.L.T. I can honestly give it a solid four stars. That's a bacon, egg, lettuce, and tomato sandwich for the uninitiated. Get it with your eggs over medium and a small side of crispy veggies and you won't be disappointed! Service is always good here and they do a good job of keeping water glasses full.

Food was great, service was great and the building is really cool. The only down side was that after I left I smelled like I had rolled around in a fry cooker for hours. Had several people comment on my food smell after I left. Ewww.

I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant and felt like I needed to complain about the music, until I visited the Brass Door. It seemed as though we were at the mercy of an indecisive teenager's iPod. We were the only customers upstairs, but it was so loud that we could not hear one another. Not only that but they would play half a song and then skip to another tune. We heard--no exaggeration here--three Dave Matthew's songs during dinner. Three! No one wants that. Anyway, the food... It wasn't great. My party all ordered the fish and chips. The breading was on the soggy side and there was no uniqueness in flavor that could have made it something more than an expensive Captain D's dinner. Hopefully your experience will meet your expectations, but I don't see what the fuss is about.

Started here on the St Patrick's day and ended up well... we just won't talk about that. So again group of friends went out for dinner and drinks before going to Beale st. Decor was dark and place is "Snug" but 3 stories high. Upper level had a large screen for people to party watching the game, middle floor- where you enter is a bar with booth/chair combo seating. Narrow but ok. And basement floor is where they have another full bar and live music. So back to my review: Food was different and good for a first, but there just wasn't a lot of it. See the pictures others have posted.... Beer was cold, mmmm beer Price was ok. Overall, everything was OK. This is somewhere I would recommend as the local game night hangout. Cheers style but smaller, "where everybody know's your name"

Really good food. I enjoyed the atmosphere during the day. The set up is nice, and we got to sit upstairs which was another good feature. I had the meal with the egg in it, and it was different and good. Very nice restaurant with reasonable prices.

Classic Celtic fare Guiness served just right and I am like Goldilocks when it comes to my Guinness. Good staple menu items and intriguing specials the two times I have been. Definitely marked a be back joint for me.

My Black Irish blood can't stay away from the pub too long! Or any place that serves Guiness, Irish Stew and Soda Bread. Located in the beautiful old Tobacco Bowl space across from the 1st Tennessee Building, its sure to become a hot spot for all those downtown types, reporters, lawyers (and those to be) or everyone that just can't pass the bar...

I have wanted to go here for a while and try the fish and chips. I spent six months in the UK, and I have been on a mad search to find some perfectly fried white fish and crisp chips in my hometown. Firstly, the service was perfect and the server was very attentive. We started our meal with shrimp on toast and smoked salmon. Both were fantastic, especially the sauce on the shrimp. I highly recommend this appetizer! The spinach salad featured goat cheese, veggies and a hot bacon Dijon dressing. The dressing was one of the best that I have ever had! The Fish and chips were interesting. The fish breading tasted like doughnuts, which was weird and totally overpowered the taste of the fish. I was throughly disappointed by this fried fish, but the fries and curry were right on point. The curry with golden chips took me right back to Wales. If nothing else, order the appetizer of chips and curry! My boyfriend ordered the open faced sandwich, and it was mouth wateringly delicious. I will be getting that next time!

You know the feeling when you walk into a bar where you've never been, but you feel like it's your neighborhood bar. That's what this place is like. We came on on a quiet Friday afternoon, thirsty. The owner, Seamus, was incredibly friendly and was nice enough to have a chat with us and give some stellar recommendations for places to visit while in town. Will be returning on Sunday morning to watch some soccer before we head out of town.

My first experience here was a girls night dinner that went really well! Everything from the food and wine, to the atmosphere (both inside and out) to our service (from both our server, the chef, and management) was on point! The chef sent out complimentary shrimp pancake appetizers with a green Demi that was delicious! It was a great way to kick off the night before we wandered off to Beale Street! The second experience was even better as we attended a graffiti party to tag the old Burger King building across the street in spray paint while enjoying free red bulls and drinks (thanks to the Yelp party!) as well as $3 specials all night long! We celebrated the pre-demolition of the building before the owners put in a new public park! What a cool thing to do for the downtown community! Needless to say, Brass Door is a great place for a variety of events from GNO, parties, dinner and just hanging out! Another plus is that they are located right next door to Mad Earl, which makes for easy bar hopping! If you haven't checked it out, now's the time!

This is a great Irish bar, with great food and drink. The menu is somewhat abbreviated in contrast to many other restaurants. However, you have to remember that this is a bar that serves good food. Notwithstanding this fact, everything on the menu is done extremely well, and the food is always very good. There are traditional Irish offerings along with the mainstays that the American public desires, such as a burger or chicken sandwich. The fries, or "chips" as they call them, are absolutely outstanding. They rival some of the best fries that I have ever eaten. As you can imagine, there is a full bar that is available, and they are always more than happy to pour you a pint of Guinness or one of the many other brews that they have on tap. One added benefit to this place - the owner, Seamus Loftus! He is a great guy that is almost sure to be around when you visit. Be sure to speak to him, but chances are that he will beat you to the punch as he welcomes you in. Four stars.

With a name like the Brass Door and after looking at their website, I was hoping for a place that was architecturally stunning, or cool anyway. It wasn't. It's got the potential, but needs some work, probably mostly just cleaning up. Start with the floors. Beer - for an Irish Pub, it did not have Kilkenny nor McCaffrey's, only Guinness as the sole Irish beer. Choice of beer was OK otherwise. Ah... the french fries, the chips. We ordered a Curry and Chips appetizer to munch on while we chatted and contemplated what we wanted to eat. The chips were fantastic. We both ordered meals with more chips as sides. They were the highlight of the visit. Both our meals were good, and reasonably inexpensive.

This bar was AWESOME!! I was in town for an event and happen to find this gem while looking for a spot to watch the Arsenal FA Cup Final. Long and behold, and to my luck, this place is an Arsenal bar. Great environment and atmosphere, Delicious Food (Yes, you can get amazing food at a pub), and best of all...They had HEINEKEN on Draft (Queue the choir). In all seriousness, Seamus was the man. He and Shawna treated my friends and I like long time pub patrons, and were extremely welcoming to us. In a packed bar, they found seats for us and took care of us making sure we were tended to and that our drinks were always filled. Next time I'm in Memphis, I'm definitely going back to hang out at this place for a beer or ten. Hope everyone in Memphis gets a chance to check this spot out!

Went on a recent Thursday night here to have a drink with friends... they had live music playing! The place smells like fried fish, but what can you expect with it being an Irish pub that sold fish and chips? Bartender was good, she provided us with some off the menu tips for ordering our food... had a spinach salad that was surprisingly delicious! HAPPY HOUR! aka drink on a budget... Thursday nights... $2 Brass Door Red Ale. The happy hour specials online don't match up to their menu specials... so just have to go there to see what's good!

We decided to check these guys out for St Patrick's day as we wanted to go to an Irish style pub. The three of us sat at the tabletops downstairs. We waited about 15 minutes before a waiter finally showed up to take our order. He proceeded to get our 3 beers and disappeared. We had hoped to order some food, but as our beers ran dry, our waiter never came back to check on us. We waited about another 15 minutes with empty beers and the only person that came by was the bartender to collect our empty glasses. She didn't even ask if we wanted another round or anything. Just walked away. We eventually got sick of waiting and I got up and found our waiter. I informed him we wanted to close out and go somewhere else because we haven't been served in forever. He advised me to check with the bar for our cards. I don't know if they just didn't appropriately staff for the night or what, but after that abysmal experience, I am definitely never going back. There are so many more customer focused bars in Memphis that I'd rather spend my hard earned money there. We ended up going to another bar and recovering our night from its terrible start.

Not too poplar for a Saturday afternoon (it is the big ice weekend) but the fish and chips were great!! Evidently, they share this space with the bar next door and there is a basement that occasionally has music. Definately something to check back on. Plus, random people walk in and play tunes on the piano hidden at the end of the bar.

Jerk.

  • Gregorio S.

Jerk.

We have had several nice meals here. We love eating upstairs overlooking the restaurant (must be a pain for the servers to run up and down the steps, but they never complain!). They have good food and local beer on tap (always a plus). Try the fried goat cheese appetizer! it's amazing!

Food was great, service was great and the building is really cool. The only down side was that after I left I smelled like I had rolled around in a fry cooker for hours. Had several people comment on my food smell after I left. Ewww.
