This review is a bit mouthy. Skip to the bottom for the TL;DR summation if you're in a hurry. Also, see my collage photos contrasting Panda's website photos with reality. __________ So I finally decided to go to Panda Express today (7/29/14) and try their "gourmet Asian cuisine." I should have continued to trust my instincts which had kept me away for months, but I thought, "What the heck" and decided to give Panda the benefit of the doubt. Typically, at a drive-thru, you place your order, they take your credit card, charge to the card, hand you back your card with receipt, then assemble your order. Panda's procedure unnerved me a tad as the attendant kept my card either in his pocket or laid it in the register until he finished assembling the order. This is a recipe for fraud. The menu states that a 4th entree can be added for $1.00. This is not the case in reality. An extra entree costs in the neighborhood of $2.50. The price is fine, but I brought the confusing menu to the attendant's attention and received an indecipherable response to which I can only compare a sub-dialect of Swahili. Having eaten at tons of Chinese-buffet-type restaurants in the past, I have a pretty good idea of the general expectation of food appearance in these places. So as I approached the drive-thru and noticed the menu adorned with glorious, professionally photographed food items, the first red flag goes up. My order consisted of those items which most appealed to me visually. Essentially, I was sucked in by their marketing and ordered broccoli beef, honey walnut shrimp, teriyaki chicken, and chow mein & spring rolls as sides. The broccoli beef was a tad above room temperature. There were two small pieces of beef. Half of the broccoli was undercooked. The honey walnut chicken (the most tasty of my selections) was almost cold, but had a good flavor. Served fresh and hot, this item would have actually been good. The teriyaki chicken was cooked properly, tender, juicy, and moderately warm, but had almost no teriyaki flavor. Served with more sauce, this item would have been quite tasty. As I received it - just baked chicken pieces. The chow mein was almost inedible. It was undercooked, tough, cold, and strayed farthest from the pictorial menu representation than any other item I ordered. Bleck! The spring rolls were crispy on the outside, as expected, but the cabbage filling had an almost chemical taste. They did not taste safe to eat. TL;DR In short, expensive, mediocre food at dangerous bacteria-producing temperatures.

Panda Express offers some good quality and fresh foods. Every chain or branch is different based on the manager an employees. Some people give you huge portions some give you healthy portions. We are so used to stuff Chinese plates and when it's anything other than that, then there is a problem. I sometimes can get really upset or greedy when my plate isn't overflowing with food. But I do notice that whatever portion they give it does do the job. That's why us American are so overweight because they know we are greedy but here we go: The portions were small but I was full when finished. The good was fresh and some trays were low or empty. The noodles and rice were delicious and cooked well. The orange chicken and teriyaki was awesome like always. The sweet tea is so delicious and the customer service was great! They took care of us and I don't see what the problem is. With every restaurant you know rush hour is packed so I can't fault them for that. We came around dinner time. No line. We had a good time at this restaurant and I will be back when I'm in the area and craving this. Everyone's experience is different and I was afraid to go based off the reviews but I'm glad I went anyway! 5 stars just because it wasn't what people said it would be on my visit!!!!!

Food was excellent and the service was speedy. Watch out for the snotty high school girls that work there though. I mentioned their attitude and the managerial staff promptly resolved the issue.

I've had better from the frozen food section at the grocery store. They give you 1/2 cup of the entree an 2 cups of rice. Spring rolls are filled with mush. Pot sticker was so tough, it cut my mouth. My wife just summed it up by saying "gross".

One word... "PANDA-MONIUM"!!! Nobody there knows what is going on. Long lines only due to disorganization. Food is just "aight". Maybe I'll check back in a year to see if they've gotten their act together.

I should not give any stars to this location for many reasons. For starters, they have an impossible entrance to the drive-thru. You have to pull all the way around a sharp curve and once you are there, it is impossible to pull out if you have to leave and service moves at a snail's pace. Once we were finally waited on (the car in front if us just sat there for over 15 minutes before pulling up to the window.). With the construction, we were unable to pull out unless we wanted to jump a curb and drive down a small hill!! We repeated our orders and every time they were repeated back incorrectly (nothing even close to what we were ordering!). They were out of most fountain drinks, they had no iced tea and the girl seemed confused throughout the entire process. In addition, when she finally repeated our order back, most of it was incorrect and we could not get her to understand us. We finally just drove through and went to the Collierville location (which was great!)

I always try to eat local but nothing wrong with a chain restaurant right?? While it was not the best meal I have ever had it was pretty darn good. Price was right, food was fresh and tasty.

I have been to this Panda Express twice, both times I've sat in the drive thru for over 30 minutes, and I'm not exaggerating. The first time I did I was ok with it, because, hey sometimes it happens and there's a wait. I couldn't drive off either because the way they have it built I was forced to wait or drive over a curb in my car. I went again yesterday and sat in the drive thru for 35 minutes with 2 cars ahead of me. To top it off the chow mein they gave me was beyond awful. The spring rolls were cold and I didn't receive any sweet and sour with them, nor did I get any soy sauce. After waiting for so long I thought I would at least have a decent meal, but that was not the case. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Yeah, not exactly the best or the most authentic place to have Chinese food, but the ingredients are fresh, the preparation is consistent, and the chow mein is excellent! And this chain kept me fed during my college days... Thank you, Panda Express!

It wasn't the best, it was alright. Drive thru can be slow. Sometimes the chicken taste rubbery....

Had to make a trip to the SuperTarget and it was lunchtime. We haven't been to the (somewhat) new Panda Express, so in my daughter and I went. It was a little confusing, to say the least. The lady who helped us had a headset on, so when she asked what we wanted I couldn't tell if she was talking to us or someone in the drive-thru. (A little eye contact would have helped to clarify this, I think) We both got bowls. (fried rice on the bottom, your choice of entree on top) I opted for black pepper chicken; my daughter went with teriyaki chicken. The black pepper was almost gone, but instead of refilling it and then dishing mine out, she just scraped the container, giving me mostly onions and celery. Because it was our first visit (and because my daughter loves gyoza) we also got 2 add-ons: spring rolls and gyoza. Spring rolls were mushy inside and there was no tasty dipping sauce to accompany it like I am used to. My daughter liked her gyoza, but once again, she's never met a gyoza she didn't like. Our bowls were supremely disappointing. The fried rice had no flavor. In a blind taste-test, I wouldn't have known the difference between it and steamed. My black pepper chicken was promising - the flavor was there....but the lack of chicken and abundance of undercooked onion and celery ruined it. My daughter's chicken teriyaki was dry and she hardly ate any of it. I almost did the "starving kids in China" schtick, but then tasted hers and understood. In her words: "In my opinion, Mommy, Sarku Japan (Wolfchase Mall) is better." Total: $16 How much I threw away: $14

Mall food court meets stand alone building with a drive-thru. It's cheap, it's fast, and it tastes like what you would expect from a Chinese place in the mall. They prepare in mass quantities and store under a heat lamp. If you go at a busy time, it will be a lot more fresh than if you go during an off time when the food has been sitting around for a while. Not bad, but nothing to write home about.

There is nothing "express" about this location. You might as well hit up one of the Chinese buffets. By the time you're finished and suffering miserably is about the same amount of time it takes to get your food in the driveway.

This is a horrible example of a Panda Express. They put corn in the fried rice. Enough said.

The worst Chinese food and possibly food in general, I have ever had in my life. Beef was tough, noodles were non edible, onions in dish were black and rotten, and the sweet tea tasted as though it had chemicals in it. It seriously made me sick!

Food was disgusting. I had my order repeated wrong the first time and after I had to wait about 15 minutes for the car in front of me (with one bag) to get their order. The noodle are like play do, so dry and flavorless! I called the restaurant but no one answered the phone. The chicken was cold as very gell-like. That's what I get for ordering fast food!

So.... G always raves about Panda Express, so a group of us all went to the Cordova location. We just recently got Panda Express in the Memphis area. Now there are two: one on Winchester and one on Germantown Parkway. I chose the two meats and one side option. I got fried rice with sweet fire chicken breast and Beijing beef. I enjoyed my meal. It is also tons of food for cheap. If I happened to be near one, I would go back. However, if I'm going to eat fast food Chinese, I'd rather go to the place in Oak Court Mall.

Okay, I have tried at least 6 entrees here and I have come to the conclusion that only the breaded ones are good. So, if you fear breading and calories and all the stuff that makes food actually tasty....you will want to skip this place. Because ALL of the non-breaded items are gross. I have tried about 6 chicken dishes and they all tasted EXACTLY the same and it is not a pleasant taste. The chicken is VERY brown also. If you are looking for white chicken, you will not locate any here. Also, the mixed vegetables as a side are terrible. How can mixed vegetables be bad? I love vegetables but these had a faint residue of butt or something. It was just foul. But now on to the good part....the breaded dishes are really pretty good if you don't mind having about 4000 calories for lunch. The sweet fire chicken is really tasty. Good in a my arteries are gonna collapse before I finish this last bite sort of way. Its junk food, nothing "good" about it but it really does have a good flavor that I actually crave. Same thing with the walnut shrimp. Just the kind of flavor a junk food junkie craves. I like the orange chicken, too. Sweet and breaded is the way to go at Panda Express. The fried rice is actually pretty good, too. It kind of reminds me of Benihana actually. Or maybe I just got it on a good day. I usually get white rice. Learned my lesson with the mixed butt veggies here. I just like the convenience of the drive thru. I hate going in places and I can go here in my jammies if I want. That is a selling feature for me. It may not be the best chinese food around but it will get you a chinese fix without even having to comb your hair. That makes it a winner in my book.

Good tasty food. Tried a bowl for first time and it was good. The firecracker chicken and sweet peppercorn chicken taste the same to me. The angus beef is good too.

I just wanted to quickly put my 2 cents in. The food is okay. It is mostly hot, but there have been times where I went, especially after it just first opened, were the food was rather luke-warm. The atmosphere is okay. One complaint I do have is that for the third time in a row, they have not given me the Tangy Shirmp sampler they were supposed to after asking me if I wanted a sample in the drive-thru. Oh well, can't expect too much from freebies.

I was craving some oriental food but didn't have much time so I stopped in here. You order from a buffet line which I don't enjoy. The food was tasty but not the best Chinese I have had. The temperature of the food could be a little hotter but the selection of dishes was very good. I enjoyed my Linux and was in and out in 20 minutes. I'll try them again for a quick lunch.

A fast food venue where I can load up on tasty veggies. I like the fact you can choose steamed vegetables as a side instead of noodle or rice. The food is all Americanized Chinese, but they are fresh and not bad for the price ($6-7).

Gross food. Disorganized and chaotic behind the counter (resulting in long line/long wait time). Horrible "sweet tea" and only Pepsi products served. Food sat heavy on my stomach, and all the sauces tasted like a bad cooking experiment with too many spices that didn't blend well. I get it that it's cheap & fast, so I shouldn't expect it to be best quality in the world, but I've had MUCH better down the street at the Wolfchase Mall.

First of all i wanted the half fried rice and half noodles and they said noodles were gonna take 30 minutes to make what the heck is that from a chinese restaurant?? Anyways on to the food. The sign says gourmet chinese food right?? Well i obviously was not expecting mulan bistro or P F changs quality but at least something better than those 5 dollar lunch menu places. Well i was wrong, this place advertises gourmet chinese food and for the same price u can go to a buffet and have the same quality with unlimited options. Bottom line this place is not worth the price u pay. And i really dont understand why its always busy, just tells me some people really have no taste for food. I will definitely not be back once is enough for me.

When I entered the restaurant the line was long and it took a while for the line to move so I thought this must be a good thing. After I got to the counter the workers seem to be unorganized. They made everything seem so hard when all they were doing was putting food in a box. It was 3 people on my ticket and they had to open 2 of our boxes up about 4 times each to make sure we had the correct order. Another person's order got in between our order. I think the black and white workers were trying to use an asian accent because I couldn't understand a thing they were saying. When I got to check-out several workers were asking me at the same time did I want a drink and another was asking me did I want to add any egg rolls. Sorry, but I felt like I was in Chinatown in New York. It was just all too much. Then I realized that was the reason for the long line. I've been to Panda Express before in other cities and have never encountered anything like this. Oh, I almost forgot the main thing....the food was very good.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
