Typical gringo mex. Friendly service, neat and clean but lacking in flavor. The tostada chips were great but the salsa was little more than tomato purée and some garlic. It desperately needed some onion, cilantro and most importantly some chilis. The menu is a carbon copy of every other Mexican places that caters to folks who have never eaten real Mexican. There's no mole, street tacos, goat, seafood soups, etc and not many options on enchiladas. It's not bad but there really is more to Mexican food than quesadillas, rice and beans.

Seriously disappointed with Los Portales based upon my first (and possible last) experience. Objectively, speaking the service lacked and their service level was seriously unmet. I ordered a Chimichanga and am unsure if what I got was even a dish of Spanish origin. My closest description was it was a burned taquito. I ordered a Coor's Light and every one now know of the "blue mountains" - well, mine came out white - this reminded me of Germany! The server was inattentive and the experience was just very disappointing. One star. All in all, was not the worst experience, but it could definitely use some improvements. Prices were fitting for the portion and food choices, but exercise caution when ordering - you may want to make sure you get what you order.

I enjoy Los Portales. You can get lunch for about $5. Dinner a bit more pricey. The service is faster then any other sit down place you would go in Jackson. Sweet tea is delicious and free chips and salsa while you wait is always a plus. I usually get the taco and enchilada with beans and rice combo and think its very good.

eh, it was ok. a lil overpriced for my tastes but it was decent. the food was ok, not great but not to bad, the service was fast though which was a plus. its not my first choice but it covers the cravings well when its the only decent one available
