I would never recommend this restaurant to single women with children and females traveling alone . The staff took 20 minutes just to get to my table and then rushed me through my dinner. The performers are condescending and slightly mean spirited towards the children that they were performing for. There are other restaurants with better food in Jackson.

Went here for a dinner date with a friend of mine and absolutely loved it! The atmosphere is very comfortable, and I absolutely love the separated booth seats; definitely adds feeling of privacy. Their menu isn't exceedingly huge, but it has some of my absolute favorites on it. I ordered the Unagi bowl and tempura, and both were absolutely fabulous and tasty. The meal was accompanied by some of the best miso soup I think I have ever had! The meal was very generous portions, and the wine I had with my meal was quite delightful. The staff of Fuji Yama were quite delightful and worked with me and my companion to pick out just the right food choices, and even brought us a complimentary salad. This place was a very nice experience, and I really liked the look of the Hibachi grill which ranged in the $20-30 area. The sushi was very well priced also. If you want a good sushi experience, especially for a business setting between a client or for an very nice date. I highly suggest this establishment.

The atmosphere in this place is really cool and actually reminded me of the resturants I'd frequent when I lived in Yokosuka. However, the food and the sushi was way overpriced. The sushi was decent, but I've definately had better. Also, the yakisoba was more cabbage than noodles. We didn't eat at the hibachi grill, but I noticed the grills were smaller, giving customers a more intimate look at food prep. I probably won't go back- it cost nearly 70 bucks for the three of us to eat there and we didn't even get a ton of sushi!

I love sushi. Here what I like about this place....Their lunch special. ...this is is probably the best lunch special for sushi I have ever had I got the spicy roll lunch bento box or whatever they call it for 8.75 it included 3 rolls - which were decent and a salad and miso soup. That is an awesome deal IMHO and that is what I like about this place. The guy I was with did not get the lunch special and ended up paying about twice as much for one roll and a salad and miso soup (I kind of felt sorry for him). I was not impressed with the "special" roll he got. It was tuna and salmon. I f you want sushi in Jackson - come here and get their lunch special.

Service was ok. The bar manager was really nice and gave us some recipes for new drinks. Unfortunately the food was not good. House dressing on the salad was ok but unremarkable. The salads were nothing to remember. The chicken and steak were both just blah as we're the sauces. The vegetables were over seasoned and nothing great. The fried rice was pretty gross and super blah. The age tofu was the best thing of the dinner but sure not worth the rest of the food. Overall I'd skip this place except maybe for the bar. Not good and as some other have mentioned it is not cheap. The two stars are for the nice staff.

It's a sad thing when things go so bad at one visit to a local restaurant that you just can't picture yourself ever going back. I've been here many times and usually it's been average to extremely good. We've had some language issues and occasionally not great service but overall it's been a place I enjoy. Tonight's service was especially bad but even worse was the fact that only one employee seemed to care at all. This employee was a server that was not assigned to our section and really had no reason to help us other than just being helpful. So many things were off that I don't think I would have room to recount them all, but after being there an hour and the second time they brought out my plate it was still wrong I finally told them just to keep mine and we would just pay for what we had already eaten. Jackson has so few places to eat that I hate that this one is off my list. I didn't get the young waitress's name but i appreciate her keeping the whole experience from being even worse. I hope her attitude wears off on her managers.

Decent. The food was unremarkable. Not bad. Not spectacular. About what I would expect from a Japanese restaurant in a city the size of Jackson. Very sushi-centric menu despite great hibachi setup. Selection somewhat limited in terms of non-stereotypical stuff...in other words, pretty basic menu. The prices needs some reconsideration, as my two tiny slivers of salmon cost more than a mountain of chicken. Prices overall a big high for a city this high. Ambience was nice, especially the very private booths.

After an almost hilarious comedy of errors in trying to find a place to have Dinner, my girlfriend and I ended up at Fuji Yama. Its certainly serendipitous that we did. We didn't go for the teppanyaki, but we did have some excellent sushi! The service was a tad on the slow side, but everyone was always attentive to our needs. I'm not a Jackson native, so I can't speak to other Sushi restaurants in the area, but if it was in Nashville, I would return without question.

First, realize that this is Jackson, TN not San Francisco or even Memphis. With that in mind, I would say that this is the best sushi in the area. The hibachi act is fun and the cooks will perform special tricks for kids (more than the usual stuff). The owner recognizes us when we come in (4 times a year) and always makes pleasant conversation. One time we were came in and realized that our 15 month old daughter was on her last diaper. The restaurant is about an hour from our home. The owner over heard us talking about it and gave us an entire package of diapers that her grandson had grown out of. I'm not sure why she had them at the restaurant, but it gives you an idea of the care she gives her customers.) Over all I am a fan. Great service, good food and not pretentious.

I've eaten at quite a few hibachi/sushi restaurants, and while Fuji Yama may not have the most exciting menu they certainly have the most enjoyable atmosphere. This place is cozy and brimming with charm! The hibachi tables probably only seat 40+ people and then there are a couple regular tables off to one side. Then you have a modest sushi bar toward the back, and best yet, you have a few intimate, enclosed booths that can seat up to four people. Their hibachi selections are pretty basic: chicken, steak, shrimp, lobster, fried rice, vegetables, etc. As well, the sushi menu is pretty typical, lacking any kind of exciting rolls. But don't get me wrong, while their menu isn't deeply inventive or out of the ordinary it's definitely tasty and will provide an above average meal when it comes to Jackson dining. My favorite things to order are the Wasabi Shumai (wasabi spiked pork dumplings), Una Don (cooked eel over rice), Rainbow Roll, Eel Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, Yellowtail Roll ...okay, truthfully, pretty much every roll that doesn't contain cream cheese. One thing that I definitely have to mention about Fuji Yama is their service. They have some of the nicest, most courteous, most attentive staff I've ever experienced. There's never been a time when service was poor. And to me, service is just as important, if not more so, than the actual meal. So two thumbs up for Fuji and all the loveliness they bring to the Jackson dining scene.
