Sax Deli & Grill Menu

Great fries, and while the black bean burger is kinda mushy, I appreciate the fact that it is homemade.

Was once my favorite place for the best grilled cheese until last night when my husband and I ate here and we were swarmed by gnats from the register to when we sat down. The manager explained they always have them, I find that odd since we have never experienced them before and we eat here almost every week. Won't be back since a side of flies with my food isn't something I look forward to.

Located in a little strip-plaza on Walton Ferry Road in Hendersonville, this little hole-in-the-wall has quickly become one of our favorite lunch spots! Known for their succulent Reuben with freshly-made Corned Beef, Sauerkraut, Swiss and Thousand Island on grilled Marble Rye, Sax is one of the few local restaurants one can get authentic, tasty Hot Pastrami. If you're a bacon-lover, a simple BLT will satisfy. In the mood for a burger? I've tried several and I like each one as much as the next but my favorite is the Patty Melt with melted Swiss and carmelized, grilled onions. I haven't begun to try everything written on the wrap-around blackboard menu on the wall, but I noticed there are also many Vegetarian options. My companions have also given thumbs up to the Chicken Noodle and French Onion Soups. The choices of sides are also delicious! The Sax o' Fries are a signature item and hard to pass up. Fresh and hand-cut, the spuds are dusted with a black pepper seasoning and served in a paper sack. My husband loves the simplicity of the homemade Cole Slaw, I can't pass up the Baked Beans, peppery with big chunks of onions and just a hint of cinnamon. The owners, Shawn and Sabrina, obviously put love and care into their food, so be sure to check them out. Seating is limited to maybe 26 or so? But absolutely worth the wait, if any!

Fresh and yummy sandwhiches, salads, burgers & fries. Nothing out of the ordinary but consistently a good meal for a reasonable price.

I came here on a Friday night wanting a healthy, inexpensive dinner. This place was absolutely perfect. I chose the veggie sandwich and opted to add extra cheese while my husband chose the pepperjack burger. He loves spicy food and said his burger was spicy and flavorful. The prices were great, service was friendly and the atmosphere quiet. We chose to sit outside and since it was late, the area was quiet. Hendersonville is a bit of a drive from where I live, but I know we will be returning. This deli is a new favorite of mine.

Awesome food, clean, and awesome atmosphere. I've eaten here a few times, and I have yet to find anything I do not like. Furthermore, the quality of the food is always superb! Highly recommended!

Took the family and some friends here tonight. I got the Ruben and a side of fries. The Ruben was good. It was a 4 star Ruben. If you've ever been to Mitchell's deli in east Nashville then you know what a 5 star Ruben is. The place is small but very charming inside. The tables and floors were clean. The prices are great. This place is just an all around good 4 star deli.

Best Sandwich in town hands down.

Really nice person behind counter. Clean place. Reasonable price and it was quick. I was the only person there at 5:15. The burger was a bit tough. It had a good charred taste, but I wasn't thrilled. I have to agree with other posters who didn't like the tiny fry pieces. They are too small to adequately carry large volumes of ketchup. That's what fries are for anyway. I didn't try any deli sandwiches so I can't make that call. It's an ok place but I can't find any reason to go back. It might be a good stop on the way for one of the little theater performances in the hall by the entrance. I think I've found my favorite burger place in Hendersonville already, and this one isn't it.

Sax Deli has quickly become my favorite local restaurant in Hendersonville! A friend introduced me to Sax two months ago and I've been back twice now. I've ordered something different every time and have never been disappointed. The Paninis are excellent! I've tried the signature Ham & Cheese Panini and the Smokin' Chipotle Panini. The BLT Panini was the best BLT I've had in my life! It was perfect! Make sure you try the Sax o'Fries! They are hand-cut, seasoned and delicious! A large order is $2.29 and extremely generous. they literally bring you a sack of fries! You can definitely split it with another person! I've heard their burgers are great, but I'm pretty sure the BLT has won me over. Sax also has an outdoor seating area, which is perfect when the weather is nice! Don't let the strip mall location fool you. This place is the real deal. You will not be disappointed!

I love everything about Sax's Deli but their lettuce choices in salads, and I'm a salad guy. Particularly because they don't use romaine lettuce. Iceberg lettuce sucks, blah, mixed greens, better, but I want freshly washed crisp romaine in my salad. I'd come so much more often if it was an option. Got to say Chik Fila has the salad lettuce situation down and mastered. Role model them. Sax please go toward using romaine. I'm sure I'm not the only one wanting this. Other than that I love you guys. Make me want to come more often! Now as far as sandwiches, I've loved virtually everything I've ordered. Particularly the Roxy (hot), smokin chipotle panini, burgers, fries, all the hot sandwiches are terrific and a good value. The feta pasta salad is great too. Service virtually always good, but lots of kids work there and not everyone on the same page at all times regarding being friendly, smiling. Dunno if there's always an MOD on to supervise. I come once or twice a week, but would double that if they get and properly use romaine lettuce. Yes I'm picky on that issue. Drink wise, there's always freshly brewed ice tea. This is a MUST, and thank you for it Sax. Some places use that concentrate tea crap to save a buck. Never use that, cause I won't come back no matter how good the food is. All on all keep up the great work, get romaine, wash and spin it, and we'll be best friends for life!

Absolutely love Sax Deli in Hendersonville. Haven't found anything on their vast menu I don't like. They probably have the best Reuben I've ever tried. Their Sax fries taste great and are plenty to share! My favorite sandwich shop in Hendersonville, hands down. Highly recommend you try. It will be your new favorite sandwich shop.

Sax is great for several reasons! 1) They serve really good burgers, sandwiches, fries and salads. Ingredients seem fresh and food is well prepared. 2) The service is always prompt and friendly. 3) The place is always clean and organized. 4) For 99 cents they serve a grocery sack full of fries (I exaggerate, but it's more fries than even one hungry adult can polish off). 5) It's owned and operated by a local family. Support your community and buy local whenever possible. 6) The prices are better than the corporate chains that serve lesser quality food. Just go and see for yourself. You won't be back at your favorite chain!

While my girlfriend's Ruben wasn't the best I've ever had, it was definitely commendable. The Russian dressing (apparently made in house) is crazy delicious. I honestly can't emphasize this enough, it's ridiculously good. Fries? Great, and as others have mentioned the portion size could feed a bear waking from hibernation. Sadly, I couldn't say the same about my French Dip sandwich. It was downright pathetic. I'm talking inexcusably, abysmally bad (I'd elaborate on my disappointment, but the uploaded photo speaks for itself). I recognize the fact that this is entirely dependent on whomever happens to be working in the kitchen at the moment, and it honestly saddens me to write this review, but I'm doing so out of consideration for the owner. Get the High School kids out of the kitchen and hire a full time cook. Not to say that someone who is 17 isn't completely capable of constructing a decent sandwich, but lets face it, the average teen is probably far more concerned with exams and getting laid than taking pride in a job that funds his video game addiction or whatever it is that 17 year olds spend their money on these days. I'd be willing to give this place another shot, but I definitely won't be rolling the dice on a to-go order anytime in the near future.

This was our first visit. The food was delicious. Enough fries for two or three people. I ordered a ham and cheese panini. I gave three stars because of the customer service. The cashier was not very friendly. After paying we asked for sauce for our fries and was told that we would have to pay, but we had no cash or change. I will go back and try again, maybe she was just having a bad day.

Deeeeelish!! Found Sax on yelp! Just as yummy as y'all described (thanks yelpers!). I had the Roxy, and when I put a handful of fries inside, divine. BF had the bacon cheeseburger and took home a BLT for later :-) Everything was awesome, down to the sax o'fries!!

I've eaten here quite a few times. I've tried their burgers, philly steak sandwiches and grilled cheese sandwiches which are really good. The burgers come on a slightly sweet bun. Their fries are really good and crispy. They have a wide variety of options.

We were told about Sax Deli from some friends of ours... We've been back multiple times since! The prices are some of the most reasonable we've found & the food is fresh & fantastic every time. The lighting in the strip mall parking lot is a bit funky, so don't be deterred.

Good food and service in 20+ visits. Place could be great if owners would clean up the drink area. You can afford to replace the homemade counters now.

Again I find myself trying somewhere because of all the hype. After hearing how wonderful the food was here at Sax I decided to give it a try. This location has held several different restaurants in the last few years and this one seems to be busy so maybe it will last longer. I ordered the Philly Burger after looking at the menu. It came with grilled peppers and onions with provolone cheese just like a philly cheese steak. I also ordered fries and a coke to go with it. The burger was lacking in flavor for some reason. The peppers and onions were great but the meat had no real flavor. I actually had to take the seasoning salt they have on the tables and season the burger patty. Maybe this is to make it a healthier meal or something? The fries are cut in house and are pretty good. I prefer the thicker fries, but these are pretty decent. They come pre seasoned with a good salt blend and weren't over seasoned. I was told afterwards that the sandwiches are awesome so I will go back and try one of those. I may try another burger at some point, too since I may have gotten a sub par one since they were busy.

This is a hidden GEM! Absolutely amazing. I went here with co-workers, and was pleasantly surprised by the absolutely delicious meal. This is no ordinary deli/grill. It's like 5 Guys on speed! The options really are endless, and they'll cater to additions/subtractions from a menu item. I ordered a grilled cheese with tomato and avocado, and boy was a pleasantly surprised. The food was absolutely deliciously warm and melty. I wanted fries, but I opted for a side salad and was glad I did. Boy was I full. Lucky for me, a co-worker couldn't finish her fries, so I at least got to try some! Super delicious! I'm looking to make the trek back to Hendersonville just for the fries!

YUM! Seriously just YUM!!! The burgers are incredible and the fries are delicious! Seating isn't ideal and I always get mine to go but that doesn't effect my rating at all. It is what it is, a perfect burger joint!!!!

This is a decent eatery but you can not have an eatery hoping for people to overlook your tone and customer service. That is still a REALLY BIG key to having a business of any kind, you cannot tell a willing to work person that they cannot have the job in a rude way,and I'm just a customer that heard the conversation. I hope someone higher than him fires his ass quite frankly.I WAS TRYING TO ENJOY MY SANDWHICH,and I just had to leave the atmosphere that he let off was very tense and angry and I had to leave before I started choking on my food. Because I am a customer I have the ability to say that he is a pompous asshole. And excuse my English but since when was it ok to eat right in front of an ass. It's uncomfortable and you never know the next time it's gonna blow. The managers/owners name is SHADI(yes this is his actual name). The business should be shut down just because of the atmosphere and quite frankly....the fries are too small and the food isn't better than anything in the Rivergate mall food court I'd drive miles past sax deli to get the same Sandwhich that tasted a lot better and had bigger fries. Thankyou for letting me have this opportunity to tell you how terrible SHADI has made this place.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Sax Deli! Yummy potato salad, the best I have ever had! Love every sandwich I have tried. You can buy a half of a sandwich also which I like to do! The chicken salad and russian sandwich is my fav's! The brownie's are amazing! The homade fries at the best!

My husband and I are from a tiny town in west Tennessee, and we were (still are) overwhelmed by the restaurant choices in Nashville and the surrounding areas. However, we had yet to find a sandwich shop that was as good as the little sandwich shop called Penny Hill at home. Well, yesterday we found it. We found it while searching for somewhere to go for lunch here on yelp and decided to try it. We almost missed it because it's in a strip mall that doesn't face the road, but that was no big deal. The storefront is nothing to look twice at, but don't let that scare you away. The food was SO good! I got the Sundried Tomato Panini, and my husband got the Italian sub, and both sandwiches were just excellent. We shared an order of fries, and it's a good thing we did because we got so many we couldn't finish them. I can't imagine having gotten a side for myself. I totally recommend this place, and I can't wait to go back and try something else.

Great little sandwich joint in Hendersonville. I had a chicken salad sandwich on delicious wheat berry bread. It was huge. My husband had the chilli and a spicy sandwich he enjoyed. The fries r amazing. Everything comes wrapped up in white paper deli style. My kids love the grilled cheese and grilled ham n cheese. We've been here for lunch and dinner. We went w friends for dinner and pused some tables together. There were 12 of us and we filled up half of the place!!

My first visit with my family was fine, but my second visit to consume the Sax Reuben was outstanding! It's an amazing (and huge) sandwich!

This place reminds me of home! Very family/friendly atmoshhere, open! Kinda cafeteria style! Just a place for a great sandwich! I had the rueben, which has always been a favorite! It was large heaping mass of delight! So tasty, DO NOT wear nice clothes while eating this, lol, this sandwich is pretty damn messy but it's small price to pay for one of the best sandwiches around. Price reasonable for size of sandwich. Only thing I would consider is taking the wall down between the sandwich makers and the guests, at least a few feet.

  • J G.

Bottom line-- get the Sax's burger. You will not regret it, I promise. Sometimes it's a little hot in here, and seating may be limited, but the fries are tasty and the burger is amazing. The bun is sweet, the meat is good quality, and the cheese is melted and tasty.

Fantastic burgers and a really cool local venue. Be sure to order small side items, as the portions are huge!

  • Ashley F.

Oh, how I heart this place. It's our go to pig out, bad for you food place. Don't even get me started on how good the fries are. And the buns. I have tried pretty much everything and it's all good. Go to order? Pepper jack burger, sub beef patty for a black bean patty. Pretty darn amazing!

I ate at Sax Deli for the first time at recently. They have recently moved from a smaller location. The menu is quite extensive with several different sandwiches and burger selections. Their variety of sides is rather limited but considering it's a deli, that didn't seem to be out of line. I ordered a Jalapeno Burger with their skin on fries. I found both to be delcious. A large order of fries is $1.99 but it could feed 3-4 people. I also tried my wife's sandwich and it was also very good. I'm definintely going back and Sax's will become a regular stop for us. Glad she suggested it!

  • Steve F.

Excellent made to order sandwiches and burgers. I would suggest going with a burger as they are my favorite. Every time I get another sandwich I regret it box the burgers are excellent. They also have amazing fries and a large will feed an entire family! I go here about once a week.

First I want to explain that it is sort of my fault that these folks got only two stars. I had wanted to go to Jumbo & Delicious but they were closed for remodeling and my taste buds and expectations were already engaged when Yelp said this place was close. As usual, I read the reviews as I was waiting on my order and thought "yikes, I should have taken the time to read them outside"! I typically take the "they were rude" reviews with a grain of salt as the people being reviewed cannot rebut, however in this case the trend is definitely there. And worst of all the overpriced sandwich was only OK. I may go back if J&D goes out of business (hopefully not in my lifetime), but only then.

    (2)
  • Jenifer G.

I could come for the fries and nothing else. Is a Sax o'Fries supposed to feed more than one person? That's a joke because it's enough for 2 adults and 2 kids, but I could kill it on my own. I like the burgers also. This weekend and friend and I tried something new, the French Dip and Chicken Philly. They were just ok, but that won't deter me from coming back. The French Dip should have had a crusty roll because it just turned to mush. The chicken in the Philly was a little dry, and again, the bun was mushy. All of that said, I am going back to try the panini, and the other sandwiches I've had.

  • Russell M.

This is such a solid place to eat. Especially with a low amount of quality options in the area. You can't go wrong with anything. I have had a few different things and nothing made me think I should not have gotten it. So if you are looking for a great sandwhich place this will be one of your favorites.

Tried Sax because Cafe Rakka was closed Monday. I took Yelp advise on this one. I give them 3 stars. I asked the girl taking my order what she could recommend and she said she had never eaten there-that concerned me to start. I had the "cajun" chicken sandwich with fries and also tried their chicken tortilla soup. I took my number and found a seat in the back dining room, but had to move because it was frigid, and I like it cool...The cajun chicken sandwich was good. Nothing that blew me away but a good sandwich nonetheless. They give you a ton of fries-one small order is enough for 2 people but I was unimpressed....they were underseasoned and I had an inordinate amount of tiny pieces-as in, so small I couldn't dip into ketchup without getting it on my fingers... Last was the tortilla soup. I could describe it as a brothy chicken chili. Not bad, but not what I was expecting or hoping for. All in all, if I'm in Hendersonville I may go back but is not a destination by any means.

  • Mandy L.

Sax is perfect for lunch or takeout. Everything is cooked to order and it always comes out delicious. I typically get a salad or the occasional burger. However other people I've gone with say everything is great. Definitely 5 stars for this local joint!

  • Kristin G.

They have SO much on the menu! It's a little overwhelming if you don't frequent this place often, but on the flip side, there are so many options to try each time you come back. I've had a spicy grilled chicken sandwich (decent), smokin chipotle panini (awesome), the philly cheese steak (awesome), and just about all the sides (havn't found a bad one yet!). The sandwich bread is AMAZING...so buttery, fresh, mmmm...the only thing I was disappointed in was the fries. Guess it really depends on what you like, but I really thought they were cut too thin to have any flavor..I prefer crinkle or steak fries any day. Service is always great, the employees are really friendly, knowledgeable, and provide recommendations if you are like me and get overwhelmed by that menu on the wall :)

Just moved to the Nashville area and I am always looking for good food that will still leave a few bucks in my pocket. Sax Deli completed the mission. I had the 3 cheese seasoned burger and an order of fries. It was very filling, but more importantly it was very good. I will be back to try other things real soon.

I got a to go order a month ago. when we got home, all 3 orders had wrong toppings on the sandwiches. I called and the manager told me the next time I came in our food would be free. She told me she wrote my name down so there would be no problem. I went tonight and the manager said she had no record of that and would not help me. I will not be back.

It is always great to see a Ma&Pa doing well these days. This place is just minutes from our house. It has friendly staff and a nice environment. There are plenty of tables even as full as joint is today. We are taking ours home. It looks very good and prices were reasonable. Yum!

Had the Sax Bacon Cheeseburger today and the meat was dry. I heard recently that they switched food providers from Sisco and the meat was incredible before they switched to the new provider. Don't get me wrong, love this place for their quick excellent service, fries and full menu. Sax o Fries still great.

They've started chopping up the steak in the Philly {so much better]. Had the Melt today, awesome and maybe the best fries I've ever had.
