I know, I know- another mexican restaurant. I say the same thing and there I am walking in. My fam and I wanted to try a new place around the way and we weren't disappointed. It's a huge place, considering the location was a Shoney's. We were seated quick and it was pretty family oriented. Chips and dips were good but what stood out was the basic rice and beans. They were almost homemade tasting. I had the carne asada and it was cooked deliciously. I would have given it a 5 if waitstaff were just a little more friendly.

My favorite Mexican spot in the Madison/ Hendersonville/ Goodletsville area. The salsa is consistently amazing with a well rounded tomato flavor with subtle heat. My favorite thing about the experience is the presentation. Very rare you get that kind of thing from similar restaurants.

2 stars is "Meh, I've experienced better" according to the Yelp comment next to the star ratings, and I think it perfectly describes my experience. What a sad little taco salad, with one round slice of styro-tomato on top. Bland, runny (from the sour cream) and just not very good. Someone else at my table got the fajitas and that dish looked pretty good. My brother got the lunch special burrito, he had no complaints. I don't quite get the 5 star reviews for this place, maybe it depends on what you order. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

We go often and yes hasn't been perfect everytime but more times good than bad. Service is usually spot on, they are SO great with my three kids. I always get grilled chicken quesadilla add grilled onions and grilled fresh jalepenos (that's what a few of their servers mess up sometimes) but if it's given to me right it's awesome!! The margaritas are amazing! The kids meals are perfect size for the kids. My little ones even could share one if they are getting along. Ha

This looks like a nicer-than-average mexican restaurant but the food is only average. If the price matched the facade and not the food I would be upset. Average review for an average restaurant. No bad experience just nothing above average.

My husband thinks the portions are too small, but I was happy with mine. I liked it and will come again.

I've been here a few times and have enjoyed it....nothing special, just good food at a good price with good service.... With that said, everyone I talk to says they are hit or miss randomly on good food and service.......

Service great, food typical Mexican. Not impressed the first time but their chimichangas are good and the next few visits were a little better. This Mexican restaurant needs to add more flavor to the salsa like most and use the lighter crispier tortilla chips. I wish all of the Mexican restaurants did!

Really bad soggy chalupas, everything was actually less than mediocre. Especially the nachos, so greasy and bad.

I have actually been avoiding this place. I mean seriously, how good could a Mexican restaurant be that occupies the old Shoney's? Very good I tell you! I was so impressed with place from the second we walked in. The place was decorated nicely and the people were very friendly. We were seated as soon as we walked in and the drinks were on the table within 2 minutes of sitting down. The food was delivered very fast. I'm talking no more than 5 minutes after the order. I got the Burrito Supremo which was good by itself but this place knows how to impress a guy with sour cream. They were not stingy at all, they loaded up the plate with rice and beans lettuce and 2 full slices of tomatoes. Plus they plopped down like a cups worth of sour cream. I came very close to giving the woman a hug as she sat my plate down. The food was seriously top 5 Mexican places around town and the place was very clean and the staff very friendly. Oh I almost forgot.....Drinks. They had several drink specials including a 32oz beer for like 4 bucks domestic and 4.50 for the good stuff. Drafts are served up in a frozen mug. Needless to say I liked this place a lot. Do yourself a favor and try it out. When you do go there, and you love it. I want you thank yourself for reading this on Yelp and trusting me. After all when it comes to food........I'm always right!

Pretty good food and cheap, cold pitchers of beer. We had a party of 10 and had good service.

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Hendersonville! My family and I love to frequent this place on Thursdays for 2/1 Margaritas and 99cent beers! We always have great service and the food is great. I always recommend this place to people in the area. Fast, cheap, delicious, easy!

If you have eaten at any other run of the mill, sub par, Mexican joint around this same area, then you can expect the same from Rio Bravo. This is not the Rio Bravo that use to be around Nashville, oh no! We should be so lucky. I really was not expecting much, but I would have rather been across the street at La Loma, because they are at least nice to me while they are serving up basically the same food. I asked the "annoyed that he couldn't watch the game" waiter if the carne asada was good and he suggested at least 2 other things he thought were better. Of course those things just happen to be twice as expensive and contained things I don't eat, so I got the tacos de carne asada and ate the stale chips and super bland salsa while I waited the maybe 5 minutes it took to make my dinner. It was bland as well, no hint of real carne asada, but it's pretty hard to get that authentic. Again, it was not really bad, it was just not really good. Spend the extra cash and go to Casa Viajo or the extra time and get over to El Canterito, or just skip it. You are not missing much at all.

Food was bad service was worse. All my food was sub standard, mass produced and served from a hot pan that had been sitting in a well since noon. I know the food was premade and served from a hotbox because it took our server 10 minutes to take our order but only 2 minutes to bring out our food. This place used to be a shoneys, I guess they are just a Mexican themed version of shoneys now. I will not go back.

One of the nicer Mexican places I've been too. We waited about 15 minutes before being seated. They seemed to be a bit overwhelmed but I believe this to only be because they are new. Our waitress was nice but slow at times. They had a great little Mexican quartet singing in and around the place. This was just a nice touch. Even before I got the food I felt like I was in little Mexico. The food was great. My wife said she liked it better than casa vieja. The place has much better lighting than casa vieja but I can't really say it's better. They are both excellent Mexican eateries!

I come here almost once a week, since I work in Hendersonville. This place is quite nostalgic for me because it's in the old Shoneys, and kids ate free on Wednesday nights, so we went a lot growing up. Ha. The chimichangas, chicken soft tacos, and "Speedy Gonzales" are all tasty. Chips are always hot and salsa is great.

I went for the first time tonight. They opened a couple months ago in an old Shoney's building. They have been a big hit in a town full of places to eat, including at least 5 other Mexican restaurants. The parking lot is always full. My son got the kids taco salad which was nice since most places don't have that available for kids. It looked to be the exact same as the adult one I ordered, but for under 5 bucks. I usually get taco salads--that's my thing. I did "almost" order the Chimichanga. Maybe next time. That said, there will be a next time. The taco salad was good and very much worth the cost. My son liked his too, and he is not much for Mexican (outside of Taco Bell). My wife got the Chicken Fajitas. She LOVES them at Chili's, but did not like them so much here. You get a LOT of food for $9.99. They looked and smelled good to me. I could not have eaten all that she got. I did not try it because I was already full and planned on taking her leftovers home for our teenage daughter who was out-and-about. I think my wife is a fajita snob and Chili's sets the bar to which all others must recon with. A big factor in a Mexican restaurant (to me) is the chips & salsa. Here is where I use Chili's as having the best chips. Most Mexican restaurants use a heavy chip. I don't like those. I like them light and crispy. Rio Bravo uses the heavy chips. So much for that. The salsa is good, however, but not fantastic. It has a decent amount of heat, but not too much. It has a slightly thick consistency. If it were on the shelf at Kroger's, I'd still buy Pace Picante (Hot). But, I did not have an issue with going through over two bowls of the stuff with some going on the taco salads. The atmosphere is very nice. Nice decor and it hints to be more of a chain restaurant than a locally owned place. They have a Mariachi Band two days a week. I saw a review on one site where someone said it was too loud to have a conversation. I don't know if the band was there or not? I do know that tonight (without the band) was not loud except for a very obnoxious loud mouth at the bar. The bar area was full of men in their 40's for the most part. It mad me think of a middle aged Chili's. Not that anything is wrong with that. The service was disappointing tonight. We went later, close to 7:30 when it was not as busy so there was no excuse. We got seated right away and then were promptly forgotten about. My wife's mouth was burning from the salsa so I had to go to the bar to get a glass of water. Glad I did because no one ever came to our table. My wife finally went somewhere to get cokes and that's when we were discovered. After that, the service was ok, but not as good as it usually is at most Mexican restaurants. But service must usually be better since the place is always busy. Overall, I was satisfied and I will return in a month or two. My rating of 4 stars was almost a 3 since the service was off tonight, but I will overlook that since all else was good to go. Hasta La Vista, Rio Bravo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
