The salad bar was awesome with lots to choose from! Steak and stuffed potato were absolutely delicious! The service was good but could have been a touch better. The girl waiting on us wasn't super friendly.

The service was excellent and the food was delicious. My steak was cooked as ordered and while not the highest quality it was very good!

For over 30 years my wife and family have been coming to the Peddler. It has Ben nothing short of awesome.....until today. My daughter's steak was over cooked TWICE. My steak tasted burnt and charred. The service was top notch and Hillary, our server was totally great. The Salad Bar was great, but the steaks were not so great. This has never happened to us here before, and hopefully it's just an off night. If it keeps up though......there's always Texas Road House! !

My family has been coming here for years and the experience is always one of a kind. We are treated like family here and the service is always top notch. Our waitress even gave me a big hug before we left and told me to please come back soon. Absolutely make sure to make reservations, the place will be packed as soon as the doors open. We always order the stuffed shrimp and oysters for appetizers and to say that you will be loosening your belt buckle after this round is an understatement. This spot is especially well known for their salad bar, check it out on your next visit and prepare to be overwhelmed in a good way! I am by no means a steak girl (pretty much a sin in my family) but I am never left out here. The blackened chicken is kick butt and seasoned to perfection. A must try in Gatlinburg.

Similar too the Park Grill in quality and quanty and prices. Food quality is vey good but the prices are a bit high.

If you are looking for a quality, filling meal this is it! The meal comes with unlimited salad bar which was excellent! The crab/shrimp stuffed mushrooms were great. The steaks were very tender and flavorful. Thanks to Alexa at Hogg's Upstairs for the suggestion. My husband and I eat out at least 3 times a week and if we lived in the area we would be here weekly!

We took a group of 22 people in here. The salad bar is a solid 3 stars...good options but nothing fancy. The green beans are THE BEST THING ON THE MENU. They are bathed in garlic butter. Yummo! French onion soup was good, again, standard issue French onion soup. The prime rib seemed to be well liked at the table.

This place is always a must do on our list when we come up to Gatlinburg. They do not do reservations, but you should call the day you want to eat here... Or you can wait up to 4 hours to be seated. The salad bar is nice with plenty of choices

The food is awesome. One of the best steaks I've ever had. They were very quick and had the steak perfectly cooked! I would defiantly come back and recommend for anyone coming to Gatlinburg to pay a visit!

Want to know what it's like at The Peddler? Remember Steak & Ale from the late 70's? Well, you just nailed the decor. In case you're too young to remember: Very dark, lots of wood, totally stuck in the 70's or 80's. I came here with the fiancée's family for dinner. The restaurant was pretty busy that night, so we had quite a wait. It was standing room only, so I lost track of time. I hear there's a nice view here... I wouldn't know, as we were seated in the middle of the restaurant, right next to the salad bar. Our server explained to us that the salad bar was included and took our drink orders. Then we headed over to the massive salad bar that was full of just about everything you might want to put on a salad, and then some more. For dinner, you could order chicken or fish... but who comes to a steakhouse for that? Most of us ordered steaks, and for that you have to wait for the meat wagon to roll by and the "peddler" custom cuts your meat right there at the table.... Yes, I was still having that 70's flashback. The food was pretty good. It was a good cut of meat, but it was a little overcooked. Not the best preparation of a steak I've ever had, but certainly not terrible either. For the money, I would have expected better. This could have been a four star review if the prices were a little more reasonable. Service was pretty good, our server was friendly and stayed on top of our drink refills and took care of any of our needs quickly. Not memorable, but not forgettable either. Also, be warned that parking is a problem here. They have a huge restaurant and a tiny parking lot. Do the math. Come early. Overall, I'd say The Peddler was average. There are certainly better options in the area, but you won't be disappointed coming here.

Foodies stay away! I cannot figure out the high reviews this place gets. The only thing I can say is that if you have ever eaten in a quality steakhouse in a major city then you will be highly disappointed. Maybe if you consider Texas Roadhouse an anniversary destination, you may like it. On second thought, roadhouse is better. The food quality reminded me of country kitchen restaurant or a western sizzling. I got the hand cut rib eye and it had no flavor. The sweet potato casserole was stringy and Jason's deli has a better salad bar. The house wine was the best part of the meal. We paid over 100 dollars for two people--just two entrees and a glass of house wine each. Not worth it.

I absolutely loved this place! It gets my highest rating because I couldn't be more pleased. Service exceptional, food absolutely delicious. I had steak and trout and both were cooked to perfection. The salad bar is one of the best I've ever experienced. This will be a regular on my list of restaurants to visit in this area!!!!!!

Freshest steaks around! Hand cut at your table so you know exactly what you are getting. Service was prompt and friendly & food was excellent. The salad bar was very impressive, especially for a place focused on selling meat! The view overlooking the river makes this a unique place to have a great meal with family or friends. I highly recommend the NY Strip! PS- try the chocolate cake for dessert, but make sure you have someone to share it with!

Solid dining experience. I liked the reviews I saw for this establishment so decided to go check it out while in town. It began with a salad bar and it was so pretty good. The bread they brought out was absolutely amazing. The steak peddler came out with steaks and took our order quickly after. Ordered the ribeye with sweet potato casserole. The casserole was piping hot, bit the steak was not. I requested medium and they cooked the steak very well. It had lots of flavor. Finished the meal with strawberry shortcake which was alright but the poundcake was hard. Overall more than pleased with the dining experience.

Service was friendly and fantastic, and the food was excellent. The ribeye was the best steak I ever had, and the desert was wonderful too! I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a great place to eat in Gatlinburg.

Steak is decent if you get the chefs cut. Salad bar is really good, with a large selection . The peddler is one of a very few restaurants that are left in downtown gatlinburg that is a decent place to eat. Most of the good places have closed or changed owners and now the food is horrible . If you're looking for a decent place to go I would recommend but don't expect the best steak in the world.

This has been my family's favorite Gatlinburg restaurant for easily over 20 years. Many times, we go here multiple nights during a vacation. This time we went two of three nights. The call ahead seating is a bonus. You must use this if you want a table on the pigeon. The salad bar is awesome. When did you last see smoked oysters on a salad bar- awesome, awesome, awesome. The service is VERY consistent. Why? The employees don't leave, I've seen the same faces for years. The entrees and sides can't be beat. The prime rib is insanely tender, the filet is crazy tender, a thicker ribeye or strip is great too. Nothing wrong with the trout either. All sides are good especially the sweet potato casserole. Rolls are awesome too. READ THIS IF YOU HAVE KIDS! First, they are very welcome with crayons and a kids menu. They charge $1 for each year of the kids age! My four year old eats for $4... Prime rib, steak, chicken, salad bar, YES! It gets better... When the meal is served, the server offers to cut the meat up for the child... WTF!!! Price- it's not the cheapest place but a great value. My family of four eats here around $70, alcohol not included. We are from Atlanta, this is a very normal price for this quality of food. We love it! GO!!! BTW- I do not share the exact view about the Park Grill.

First let me state that I am a local. We had always heard that if you want a good steak, go to the Peddler. First off, $12.99 for a salad. Anyway, a ribeye, New York strip (10oz for both meats), two sides, salad and two drinks. This all cost us $70. Was it worth the seventy? No. I've had better steaks at other regular steakhouses for half that price. The cuts were very tender, salad was a fresh bar type and the sides were the typical sides. Would we be back? Probably not unless we win the lottery or someone else is buying. Is it because of ill tasting food? NO! The food was great. The reason is because it seems to be very overpriced for what one gets.

This restaurant was the single worst dining experience I've had in several years. We had a party of 8 (plus a baby). I don't particularly mind the seating arrangement because the party was so large, but we walked right by an appropriately sized table with a better location only to be seated right beside the salad bar. That's fine, though. You get what you can when you have a large party. Our server was very friendly, and we all made our way to the salad bar. It was fresh with a decent amount of options, but honestly, if you can't get a salad bar right, you should just close the place. Nothing special. I had an appetizer of oysters on the half shell that weren't shucked very well, but I'm an easygoing person and I know to be cautious about eating oysters. We ordered cocktails, and one of our party thought hers had almost no alcohol in it. It was a martini, so there's not much in the glass to begin with, and after a couple of sips and asking her husband to try it, she called the server over. She clearly explained that she wasn't asking for a refund but wanted to know if that's the way they're made because she would order something else. The server took the cocktail and returned it saying "You've drunk too much of it. We can't take it back." She tried to explain again what she was asking, and the server left to talk to the manager and came back to tell us once again that she couldn't refund the drink. That wasn't what we were asking, so we just let it go. Most of the table ordered steaks. I ordered rare prime rib, and other orders included medium rare and medium. Every steak came to the table medium. The steaks were tough and tasted like they might have been previously frozen. I decided to get up and talk to the manager myself. He was extremely condescending, but I explained we weren't angling for free food or drinks, just a good experience. He told me to go send the steaks back if I didn't like them, and I said I'd already taken a few bites and really just wanted to leave at this point, so I said I'd just rather he pay some attention to the kitchen and the quality of the food coming out. After the meal was over, I paid my $117 check (for two people, two entrees, one appetizer, with the salad bar added), and some members of our party asked to speak to the manager again. At this point, I'll admit that some members or our party were frustrated and argumentative, but frankly that's a restaurant manager's job. He could very easily have avoided confrontation by attempting on some level to be accommodating. He implied we were trying to get free food. He wouldn't let the cocktail issue go, either, despite repeated explanations that she just wanted an explanation so she could decide whether or not to order something else. I realized all he wanted to do was argue and honestly didn't care since we had already paid our bills. My wife and I left for the bathroom, and as I was leaving I was told that the manager had escorted everyone out. This was an extremely easy situation to remedy. Nothing more than a sincere concern for the quality of the visit would have done it. Our party waited to pay the bill precisely to make the point that they wanted nothing free, but the manager would have no part of it. He was rude, condescending, and did an extremely poor job in the most important position at the restaurant. The manager's name is Tim. If you read these other reviews and feel that mediocre steak and a big salad bar is right up your alley, at least do yourself a favor and ask who's working that night. If he's on, wait until another night. Frankly, there are so many restaurants to choose from in Gatlinburg and so many that are serious about customer service that I wouldn't consider it. You can eat elsewhere and save yourself $40.

Very good (but expensive) food. What amazed me is how fast the experience was. We did call ahead seating and we were taken back about 10 minutes before due time. Start the clock.... We sat at 8:00 (a Friday night), greeted immediately, hit the salad bar, placed app and dinner order (8:05), received apps (8:10), received dinner (8:20), finished dinner and ordered dessert (8:35), received and finished dessert and received bill (8:45). He whole time we received plenty of refills, lots of prebusing but the whole time I was unsure of who our server was..... Was it the peddler? the lady that took the order? The lady the filled our cups? The lady prebusing? Doesn't matter though....it was the fastest $250 I have ever dropped on a dinner and only in 50 minutes. But DAMN it was good. It was typical of Gatlinburg restaurants.... Not much in the way of personalized service as they know you are tourists.

After waiting an hour for a table, we expected a steak worth the wait and the $30 price. Way below expectations. What we got was an average steak you get at any other restaurant. Not what you expect to get at a "steak house". The salad bar was good, and so were the appetizers. But the steak was no where near worth $30. Very disappointed. Also, our younger brother ordered chicken fingers, and they tasted like fish. We told the waitress, and she said they are fried in the same oil as the trout? Not okay.. Overall, a big let down.

Save your money and try another place. Several people along Parkway recommended this place as well as the reviews on Yelp, however I feel the food fell short. The salad bar is included in the meal price along with the beverages, unless it's alcohol. Salad bar was good. The atmosphere is cool, if your able to get seated by the window overlooking the river. The main reason I gave this place 2 stars is bc the food is way over priced. I got the combo ribeye/fried trout. Ribeye was tough and the trout tasted like it was frozen and not fresh. Girlfriend had the combo Ribeye/Blackened chicken. I tried a bite of the chicken and it was over seasoned with salt and it takes a lot of salt for me to say that. I always ask the locals what the best places are to eat, everyone on Parkway will recommend this place..... locals outside the Parkway will say its over priced.

Good service, good atmosphere, great salad bar, decent steak and grilled shrimp. Not an extensive wine list and the ones to choose from weren't great...but overall I would recommend for families.

Great Salad Bar and a nice cozy atmosphere. They hand cut steaks and while the steaks are good they aren't the best I've ever had. It's a great spot for dinner and the stuffed mushrooms and stuffed shrimp are great, so make sure to check it out.

We just left The Peddler Steakhouse....and left disappointed. We were a party of 4 and were able to walk in and were immediately seated. Within a few minutes, the waitress welcomed us, introduced herself, and took our drink order (all were water, except for 1 Coke). We didn't see her again for quite some time. While we were waiting on her to come back to the table, we noticed that a table overlooking the water opened up. We were going to ask to be moved to the table along the exterior wall, but by the time the waitress returned, another couple had been seated at the table. No worries though, because the restaurant had been highly recommended to my wife by numerous people, so we expected great things. Once our drinks arrived, the waitress explained the ordering process (a steak peddler will come to the table and take the entree order. If you order a NY strip or ribeye, the steak peddler will cut the steak to the thickness you desire.). Within 5 minutes, the steak peddler arrived and took our entree order. Within a reasonable amount of time, our dinner arrived. 3 of the 4 of us ordered the 7 oz. filet mignon ($34 each). Of those 3 filets, all of them were tough and not a single one was cooked properly. All 3 were ordered medium rare. My wife's was medium well (faint strip of pink in the middle), mine was somewhere between medium and medium well (a little more pink in the middle than my wife's, but mostly brown), and my friend's was medium (mostly pink, with a little brown). My friend's wife ordered shrimp. She said that her shrimp was good. I had the steak fries for a side, and they were mediocre. Everyone else had sweet potatoes as their side, and it was unanimous that they were awesome. Overall, I was very disappointed. Here's why: 1) Service was mediocre, as our waitress disappeared for a while a couple of times. Near the end of our dinner, it became apparent why...she liked to talk to the guests at her tables for extended periods of time. I understand that wait staff needs to be friendly with their guests, but when the restaurant is full, IMO conversations should be kept to a minimum, because there are tables that need to be waited on. 2) Value simply wasn't there. I certainly don't mind paying for a good steak....but if I pay $30+ for a steak, it better be right. I seriously considered sending the steak back, but I was starving. Honestly, I feel that if I'm going to a restaurant where steak is their specialty, I expect that the steak should be right the first time & I shouldn't have to send it back. If I'm paying $30+ for an entree, I expect an above-average kitchen staff. I've had better steaks at Outback Steakhouse for half the price.

This meal was so bad I feel compelled to write this review while waiting on my check. If I could give it zero stars I would. Everything about it was mediocre from start to finish. We had the $30 king cut prime rib. It was tough, overcooked and under seasoned. The "stuffed" potato was dry and barely more than a baked potato. The "grilled vegetable skewer" was 4 pieces of flavorless, undercooked squash and one tiny mushroom. The Cabernet was served in a tiny white wine glass, not allowing it to breathe properly and a very small pour on top of it. At least the rolls and butter were decent, and the service was good. On that note though we were told it would be an hour wait for two. We went to the restroom and walked into the bar area to order a drink. We hadn't even ordered yet when we heard our name. Maybe five minutes and they called our name. Should have known there is some confusion here if you are told an hour wait and then it's five minutes. Skip this place, it's an overpriced tourist trap.

The Peddler's Restaurant was amazing! The service was excellent! Our waitress, Bobbie, always kept our glasses filled and was constantly checking on my husband and me. The atmosphere was very casual, despite the high end cost but that was expected in a tourist town. I felt very over dressed in a casual dress and heels. My husband was wearing just a polo and nice jeans and felt overdressed. However, the food was amazing! We started our meal with the delicious Peddler's salad bar (part of every entree). We order crab stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and we received them prompt and steaming hot! I recommend the fresh rolls with your extra sauce, yum! The Steak Peddler comes out with a steak cart and cuts your steak order at the table. My 10 oz. Rib eye was cooked perfectly and the grilled veggie skewer were the perfect texture. My husband order the marinated grilled chicken and was not disappointed. Overall, we had an excellent 10 year wedding anniversary dinner at The Peddler Restaurant! 4 out of 5 stars due to the screaming child in the restaurant and no private seating to make it more romantic.

Finally!!! We have been going past this place for decades, tried to go at Christmastime, but they were closed at lunch when we wanted to go. So we finally made it, and what a delight it was! As we entered, the manager came up and aborted our being led downstairs to a table and said he had a better one for us, so he took us up a short flight and seated us in a corner table that was large glass picture windows on both sides overlooking the bubbling stream flowing over the stones and the leafy foliage of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! So far superior to the same old sports on multiple TV screens. Our young server, Clay, was helpful, and we got Blue Moons to start and the smoked trout spread on small toasted French baguette slices. Wow! A real taste of the Smokies! One of the largest and most complete salad bars we have ever seen was a part of every meal, and included such items as smoked oysters, anchovies, picked beets and okra, three bean salad, bread and butter pickles, really fresh crumbled bacon and delicious dressings. Clay brought us heavenly rolls and butter that were hard to resist, and my wife did ;-) Then to the entrees. She chose the grilled rainbow trout, which was delectable, two large filets accompanied by wild rice that was also some of the most flavorful I have ever tasted. I like combos, so I ordered the rib-eye steak, cooked Pittsburgh and stuffed shrimp, accompanied by a stuffed 1/2 baked potato. The ribeye was perfectly cooked, and the shrimp were tasty, stuffed with crabmeat, and the three were larger than expected and arrived in a cute baking dish. I'm not much of a potato person, but this had lots of cheese, bacon and chives, and the sour cream was served on the side (thank you.) I did use the sour cream to moisten the potato as it was a little dry but very good. Another server, Dandie, had walked by earlier with the peanut butter mud pie, which looked irresistable, and even though we were full, we had skipped lunch, so for once we ordered dessert! The pie was a chocolate sandwich cookie crust, layed with about an inch of peanut butter ice cream (with chopped peanuts inside!), then another inch or so of chocolate ice cream, and all covered in real whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup. A taste of heaven on a plate! Although it was pricy, it was worth every penny and fulfilled all of our fantasies of what this place might be! A highlight of our vacation!

The Peddler Steakhouse was not our original destination - in fact, we were looking for something quick and cheap when we set out. But boy, oh boy, was I glad we took a wrong turn on our walk. We went in and the smells were terrific. We were seated immediately and our server was on her game! We had our drinks within a minute of the order being placed and our server spent a lot of time answering our questions on the menu. She encouraged us to visit the salad bar (included with all entrees or on its own). And boy, am I glad we did! What phenomenal, fresh food! The lettuce was super crunchy and fresh, there was an assortment of vegetables I can't even name and it was clean! No spills, so mixture of food. Mmmm. Then - a real-life PEDDLER came around to each table with the meat of the day, offering to slice it for you right there. We passed, as I am not really a steak eater, and my husband wanted to try something else. But, what a great experience! He ordered the rainbow trout and I ordered the coconut chicken. Both were fantastic (and I don't even like trout). Fresh, hot, definitely some of the best food I've ever eaten. In fact, we filled up so quickly on the salad bar that I took the chicken with me, and it was great even re-heated! It's a bit pricey, but the service is top notch and the food is amazing. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Gatlinburg.

This was the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. The food was delicious! Everything was hot and fresh. The salad bar which comes with your entree was huge. The best thing about this restaurant was the service. We got there right when they opened at 5pm on Friday, March 13th. There was a huge line but they were very efficient in getting everyone seated and the wait was minimal. During the course of our meal, my drink was constantly refilled and dirty plates were removed immediately. I never even truly knew who our waiter/waitress was because so many people waited on us. If you even looked like you had a question, someone was there to answer it. It is obvious that the staff has been told to never walk by a table without checking to see if something was needed. Everything was very clean. I don't usually do this but I actually asked for the manager on my way out because I wanted to tell him how impressed I was by the service. I will definitely be eating here again next time I am in Gatlinburg.

My wife and I made it back to the Peddler after a 5 or more year gap. (We had been frequenting their sister restaurant, The Park Grill). My wife had the grilled salmon and I had the grilled trout. Our order came out really fast and was still very hot from the grilled. We loved both fishes. Service was excellent. We ate "upstairs" in the lounge area and loved the atmosphere. We had a table with a view of the river. Definitely plan to come back.

This is the heart of Gatlinburg. Country cooking steak house. If you want the Texas style, go elsewhere. This one attempts to do a family style country kitchen. They took reservations and we were seated a bit early. It was quiet and intimate. It could have been a very classy place, but when you looked around everyone was in jeans and t-shirts. It made every attempt to be up-scale, but it really felt like a Western Sizzlin going up-scale. Very good salad bar, but nothing unique. The rolls with dinner were incredible as was the water. I don't think I ever had a water in a restaurant that was memorable - but this one was. Had a lemon and tasted great. Can't really describe it, but it makes me worried that I could distinguish it! A special meat waiter came to the table to ask which cut you wanted and how much. He cut it there in front of you. I don't know if I really liked it. I remembered that the menu told you what was how much, but there was also a $2 per ounce addition. When i read the menu I thought it strange. When he was showing the meats I was confused if he was up-selling, what the standard size was, etc. I got the feeling I was being manipulated, ripped off rather than wowed. When it came, the steak was well seasoned (pepper, salt, etc.) but slightly under-cooked. I ordered medium, but it came back much rarer. I ordered the sweet potato casserole with it. Wow - it was GREAT! I could have made a meal of it. Unfortunately, the crust on top was burnt. Not scorched, burnt - hard black. I took it off and enjoyed the sweet potato and could only imagine how it would have been if the graham cracker topping wasn't toasted. Had a glass of the pinot grigio. I'm not a wine person, so I can't tell you much more about it - but I enjoyed it. Waitress only infrequently stopped by. I'm from the Appalachians of SW VA, but she had an accent that impressed me. The food was good, but inconsistent. Waitress was nice, but scarce. Food was good but improperly prepared. The place has potential, but they really need to firm up the details and get better with the execution.

Peddlers Steakhouse was referred to me by my client and the Hilton Garden staff as the best steak place in town. I can see what they like about it. It's Tennessee friendly, for one thing. That means people greet you as if they know you. Their salad bar is pretty good, and their little dinner rolls are dee-licious. Normally I try to skip the bread but at Peddlers I cleaned out the basket all by myself. The little steak I had seemed pricey - $25.95 for a ten ounce NY strip cut pretty thin. It seemed to have been tenderized a bit as well, a minor peeve of mine. However, it being Gatlinburg and not Chicago, it wasn't a surprise. It still tasted pretty darn good and the little skewer of vegetables was a nice accompaniment. With a Diet Coke, dinner was $32 before tip. If I'd been in the mood for wine it would have been $50. Overall a pleasant, if slightly overpriced dinner.

Great filet. Cooked perfect! Fries were ok, but biscuits made up for the fries. They could sell the sweet tea for $10 a glass and I'm still buying. My wife said salad bar was delicious.

Like others have said, solid dining experience, not the best meal I've ever had and definitely not the worst. We arrived expecting to have to wait on a Saturday evening around 8. It took us at least 15 minutes to find parking - after circling their small lot we ended up with a street spot a few blocks away. Of course as soon as we arrived several parties were on their way out. The host quoted us a 30-45 minute wait, and we took a seat along with several other parties - at this point we were committed, and couldn't imagine anywhere else would have a shorter wait and free parking. We were eventually seated at a 2-top by the creek. They shine some spotlights on the (roaring that night) creek, so you do still get a view even in the dark. Our very unenthusiastic waitress came over to take our drink order, but we'd just sat down so we weren't read and asked her to come back in a few minutes. She explained the procedure, the salad bar comes with all of the entrees, so when we were ready we could help ourselves and then the meat cart would come around. After ordering a glass of wine, we headed to the well-appointed salad bar and loaded up a plate each. My husband was especially enthusiastic about the fresh/real bacon bits at the end of the salad bar. After returning to the table, the "meat peddler" came along with his cart and explained that he would custom cut steaks 10 oz or larger, or take any other dinner orders. My husband got the NY Strip, which was cut right there in front of him, and a baked potato, and I chose the Rib Eye & grilled mountain trout combo, and added a baked stuffed potato (twice baked potato by another name, I guess) for a buck or two extra. The food came out quickly and tasted good. The trout was kind of overwhelmed by the smoky grill taste, but nothing a little bit of salt and pepper couldn't fix. The potato was delicious, and the steak was extremely tender and cooked perfectly medium. For dessert we had the Kahlua creme brulee, which comes in a tea cup, and was fantastic. All in all, a great view, a good meal, and okay service.

Overall, mediocre and not worth the wait or price. We called ahead for seating. Got to the restaurant and put our name on the list (45 minute wait). We were called off the wait list before the "call ahead" list (if one even really exists). We had a 2 year old and four adults. We are used to being shunned at restaurants because of our toddler, so it wasn't surprising that when we asked for a high chair the hostess rolled her eyes. As it turned out, we were seated a table for four and told to find space around the table for an additional chair to put the booster seat on (which we were not able to secure in any way to the chair, so was a little nerve racking). The general feel of the restaurant, other than anti-kid, was crowded, rushed, and annoyed. Almost like the goal was to feed as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time to maximize profit. Employees didn't take pride in the choice of food or its preparation and clearly treated its guests as unwanted tourists. Salad bar was average. Food was ok, but expensive. We won't be returning and certainly would not recommend it.

We went to the Peddler on a Tuesday and had no problem getting a table. They were not very busy. Started with a couple of appetizers, my wife got the crab stuffed mushrooms, and cheese sticks for me. The cheese sticks were just ok, but the dipping sauce was very good. My wife liked the flavor of the crab stuffed mushrooms, but they were not very warm. They came out quickly, so they probably could have cooked them a bit more. The salad bar was very well stocked and had a great variety of items. I know people rave about the warm dinner rolls, but honestly I didn't think they were anything special. I would be surprised if they were made on property. They look like round dinner rolls you can buy in a bag. My wife ordered the rib-eye and the "steak peddler" cut it for her at the table. That was a nice touch and that guy was very patient in explaining the different cuts of meat that were available. I ordered the 7 oz. fillet. My wife said her steak was very flavorful, as was mine. They were both cooked just as we ordered them and the service was great. We were looking for the most upscale place we could find in Gatlinburg, and after reading the reviews settled on this place. For the $110 we paid before gratuity, we expected a more up-scale experience. Everything was fine, but it seemed like Ruth's Chris prices for an Outback experience.

This steakhouse is nice but not thrilling. The prices are SOOOOO over bloated with a mandatory 17 to 20 percent tip for so so food. For four people we spent around $160. I should have walked out and went down to Texas Roadhouse.

We had a great experience here. Our waiter had been working there for 18 years; a very good sign. The salad bar is excellent (smoked oysters, baby corn, bacon).very good wine list. The petite filet was delicious. Toddler fabulous - she loved the view of the river, snacking on the salad bar, and her Shirley temple. I loved the dollar-a-year pricing. The ambience is great - the river is beautiful. My stodgy dad was quick to point out he wouldn't want to carry their flood insurance, but that's not for me to worry about.

I checked the reviews before decided go this restaurant when visiting Gatinboug. Their salad bar was good with fresh vegetables. My husband ordered fillet , I had ribeye and asked medium well. Both were cooked ver well. They tasted very dry. We felt it nothing good as ordinary restaurant. The waiter was not great either. Since most people like this restaurant, I think that it may be need more try.

Great food! Expensive, but well worth it. We went for our anniversary and left with full bellies. We paid around $70 for the salad bar, two steak entrees, and a couple of drinks. The service wasn't too great but I think we just had a bad waiter because no one else seemed to have a problem. Excellent steaks and a huge salad bar!

My family comes to the mountains every year for Christmas and this has always been one of our must do things. I called to get a reservation on Tuesday for us to eat on Thursday. I was told they only do same day reservations to call after three on the day we wanted go. So I called today at three and made a reservation for 6:30 for a group of 12. I was told that we would be seated between 6:30 and 7:15. Our group consisted of 8 adults 2 two year olds a one year old and a baby. We were prepared to pacify the kids for about 30_45 mins. Not how long our eventual wait was. We arrived at 6:20. At 7:00 we asked about how much longer it would be and he said they are cleaning the table now. So twenty minutes later we asked again and he said she was getting the menus now and she grabbed some menus and left. So we waited a few more minutes and I asked to speak to a manager. He came up and I said I called and made a reservation and was told that we would be seated between 6:30 & 7:15. He said we don't have reservations we have call ahead seating. As if there is a difference. He walked off. He came back after a few minutes and I asked him why we were told that they were cleaning the table and getting the menus ready if they don't even have a table ready. He said they have to tell you something. I said a Lie?? He said do you want to eat or not. At that point I said no and we walked out. This so called manager was very unprofessional and very rude. He was skinny dark hair and glasses. It is a shame that this guy was the reason we will never go here again. We will spend our $600 somewhere else from now on!!!

Me and my wife have made our third trip here and may I say it's better every time we go; I love the large salad bar so I can get what I want , and the steak selection that they bring to your table to ask you how thick you like it is just great ( I love thick , juicy, steak ) , cooked perfectly. The view of the river even at night made for a nice romantic evening, and they have great drink/ wine selection. Not a place to take the kids unless you like spending heavy for them, more for date night or business meal !!!! Can't wait to return

We tried this place after having a great experience at its sister restaurant, the Park Grill. Great customer service, awesome salad bar and delicious food. The stuffed baked potato was so delicious that I almost licked my plate clean. Ask for a table by the river for the best experience.

We absolutely love to eat at The Peddler. The salad bar is amazing and the steaks are amazing. The view of the rivr from some if the tables is extraordinary. Lower level tables have someone pushes a cart come by so that you can pick how you want your steak cut. Nice touch. But the food and view is excellent. We eat here every time we are in Gatlinburg.

This had a Nice atmosphere with mainly older folks the food was delicious and fresh they had a large salad bar that was included with the meals. I had the fresh rainbow trout grilled and gluten free. The wait was supposed to be 45 min to hour but was sooner. Great service.

What a view of the smokies, surrounded by little pigeon river, the food was an excellent choice after a long day. Staff was also very friendly and the Meat guy was straight forward and knew exactly what we would want or need.. For the weary traveler I would recommended this restaurant located of the tourist trap, be it a bit pricey but well worth every tender morsel taken.

I must say it is legendary! I have never gotten anything but a salad bar here because it's so good and I can't eat anything else, but everything looks so good that I stare at it longingly. I must get a meal to bring home. I love a good salad and I would recommend this place strictly for this alone, but everyone seems to love the food as well! Go!

We eat here every time we come to Gatlinburg. They are a little pricey, but the food quality is worth it. Ironically, this trip we had some problem with the food (steak was cooked well done almost and ordered medium and replacement steak was somewhat tough but ate it anyway) but manager made it right. This won't keep us from returning every time we're in town. Salad bar is excellent and river views are nice as well if you can wait long enough to get a table facing the river. Plan to wait to be seated but you can put your name in and go into the park for an hour or two then come back.

When we go to Gatlinburg, the Peddler is always the place we hit on the night before we leave. On this trip, it was just as good as it ever is. I had the Stuffed Shrimp and a Shrimp Cocktail appetizer. I was not disappointed. The only caveat is that we ate at the Park Grill the night before and the menu at the two is the same, or damn close (owned by the same company). I wish there was a slight mix up between the two. Will go back every time we go to Gatlinburg, guaranteed.

I have been coming to The Peddler for almost 20 years now. It was always a favorite stop on family trips to the mountains, and I shared this tradition with my husband when we began our annual Tennessee road trip in 2009. This restaurant a must visit - you start tour meal with an amazing salad bar (smoked oysters are my guilty pleasure on it), and then choose your cut of steak from the meat peddler. Their dinner rolls and butter are one of my favorite things there... I am usually able to get a second order of them to take home with me for steak and eggs the next morning from my leftover steak. Always wonderful service.

This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. They have amazing steaks, my fav is the prime rib. They come by your table and cut the meat right in front of you. The rolls here are awesome! They have a salad bar here and it is the most amazing salad bar I have ever seen. They have about four to five people standing around constantly changing items on the salad bar with fresh. It is by far the BEST SALAD BAR I have ever been to or eaten at. There is usually a wait so be prepared. The dining area overlooks the national park and a stream where many times you will see live animals such as deer or bears. It is my favorite place to get a steak at. It is worth the drive. If you end up drinking too much there are several hotels near by that are worth the dollar. One hotel is River House at the Park. This restaurant rocks and is owned by man that also has the restaurant The Park Grill in Gatlinburg. Don't sit at the bar. Service is not good here even when you are getting a drink.

I have to say that this is the best steak house that I've ever been to. We went in the middle of July and it was very busy. I would definitely recommend call ahead seating. Also make sure and ask to sit "by the river" as the view is pretty phenomenal around sunset. As we walked through the front of the restaurant on the way out we noticed that the dining experience in the front is completely different and would not have been worth the price. The service was excellent. Our server was quick with everything without being overbearing. As the other reviews say, they brought out the meat cart and cut the steak in front of you which is pretty neat. They also knew about the different cuts and were able to make informed recommendations based on their experience and the questions we asked. The food came out pretty quickly and was fantastic. It is definitely one of the best steaks i've had and I would go there again in a heartbeat. Don't skip on the dessert either. We got the blackberry cobbler and it was as excellent as the meal. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone going to Gatlinburg.

I had the pleasure of dining here during a recent hiking trip to the area and was thoroughly pleased. The salad bar was very fresh, well-stocked, and comes with all of the entrees. Although it is clearly a steakhouse, I ended up having the fresh trout with a side of green beans and could not have been happier. The desserts were lovely, and there was a pretty decent wine and beer list. It was a nice, hearty meal after a day of hiking!

We ate at Peddler's for our engagement dinner this evening and I must say, we were very impressed. The service was impeccable. My glass never came close to empty. The steak was cooked perfectly Medium Rare and the sweet potato casserole was delicious. Our server's name was Jeremiah and he was very courteous and helpful. Though, it seemed to be a team effort. We had several people stop by the table to make sure everything was going well and that our glasses were full. Selecting a cut of steak from a "steak peddler" who comes to the table was a new experience for us. We will certainly be coming back here again.

This used to be One of our favorite stops over the years but the meal was lacking in quality and the service in terms of friendliness. The family had rib eyes and strip steaks and they were all very average in terms of flavor and preparedness. We missed all the old variety of items on the salad bar that made it so unique. We thought this would be a great way to round out the holiday weekend and were unimpressed spending over $300 for a family of nine all drinking water. Trying the Cherokee Grill next time in town.

I wish I hadn't taken so long to do this write up, I remember enjoying the experience and wanting to go back, but the details escape me. I remember the steaks being very good, the tableside cutting being a unique bit of ambiance, the waiter being accommodating with our 7-year old who's never really sure exactly what she wants to eat, and the wine being tasty. I wish I could remember more to share but we did so much in Gatlinburg those few days I simply can't If you want a good steak experience, give this a shot. It won't disappoint.

What a disappointment. I was invited to dine here with a friend who raved about the food and had been a loyal patron for 20+ years as a vacationing condo owner. It a "used to be really good" kind of place. The salad bar used to be incredible. Not any more. The trout used to be succulent, perfectly cooked, and some of the best. Not. We had to send our entrees back because we ordered a medium rare steak that even the waiter suggested was well done. Unfortunately, the replacement was no different. And after waiting for over an hour to eat, they wore us out and we just chalked it up to an experience we won't repeat. On the plus side, it's a pretty restaurant, situated on the creek and the atmosphere was okay. After a $100 meal (we had a $40 bottle of wine) we agreed that that was our last visit. Go instead to the Cherokee Grill and order the Boursin Filet. Now that's (apologies to Alton Brown) GOOD EATS!

Always a stop when in Gatlinburg. However, the quality seems to slip a little more with each trip. Salad bar and rolls are always great. Ordered prime rib this time. 30 bucks was way to much for this 12oz. It was just okay. The New York strips my boys ordered was much better in its taste and preparation. Hopefully next time it will have regained some of its previous glory.

Very mediocre. Ordered baked brie and never got it. New york strip was over cooked and second try was poor cut of beef. Restaurant comp'd steak but then tried to charge $12 for salad bar included in meal. Husband ordered trout which was mediocre at best.

Nice building, right on the river ... we had a window seat, so that was good. Had the ribeye steak, medium rare. They bring the raw steak out to your table and cut it for you when you order. Wife had stuffed shrimp. Steak was good but nothing to get excited about. Shrimp were excellent. Salad bar included what you'd expect. All in all a mediocre experience. Price was outrageous compared to quality. $60+ for two! If overpaying for average food makes you feel better about yourself, then this is the place for you! I'd go back if they lowered their prices 50%. Absolutely not worth it.

I really need a good reason to knock a restaurant. In this experience my wife and I were on our honeymoon and decided to see how good the Peddler really is. Unfortunately this is one of those times I trusted the yelpers and I was steered in the wrong direction. The steakhouse itself looks incredible there is a nice look about the place besides some of the taxidermy animals staring you in the eye when your eating. The staff seemed to be nice, but their wasn't a real since of welcome. The food was ok I had a rib-eye that wasn't bad in-fact it was juicy and moist, the salad bar was a great setup plenty of salad options. Lastly I got the bill and between my wife and I we were both astonished at a $91 dollar bill. Considering the location and that we were on our honeymoon, I paid and we left. I would consider The Peddler a tourist trap restaurant and I will not be returning. I have nothing against the staff the place itself even the food was ok, but the food was overpriced just waiting. The food wasn't worth the money spent.

I felt compelled to leave my first ever review here. Great quiet, relaxing atmosphere at a riverside table in the bar, excellent fresh salad bar and grilled Rainbow Trout, and our server PJ could not have taken better care of us. Southern hospitality at its finest! We'll be back!

This is a lovely restaurant located by the river. If the atmosphere and ambiance of a restaurant makes a difference to you (it's a big part of my enjoyment), you'll enjoy the log cabin setting and soft lighting. Nothing here is cheap, so be prepared for a hefty bill when you dine here; it's a romantic, special occasion kind of place. I personally wouldn't bring kids here, but there were several families, so they do welcome children. My husband and I both ordered chicken instead of steak, and our entrees were still around $18 each. However, that does include a large salad bar that's well-stocked with plenty of variety. I'd say the salad bar is the biggest draw of this place for me, and you can get it by itself for $12 if you don't want an entree. I liked my chicken fine, but it wasn't particularly outstanding. I didn't expect as much from a restaurant that specializes in steaks. We were given a basket of soft yeast rolls as soon as we sat down, and our server always refreshed our drinks before we'd even finished half. She was very polite and attentive.

I give the Peddler 2 stars because "Meh. I've experienced better." My wife and I ate here once and for dropping $90 (includes tip/ no drinks) I wasn't really impressed. I had an OK steak but other than that nothing about this place really impressed me. When in Gatlinburg this place isn't even on my radar anymore.

We drove over from Dillon, NC for Dinner. We found this on yelp and decided to try. hmmmmm. The salad bar was fresh and well stocked. The chief came to our table and cut our meat while we were eating our salad. By the time we had finished our salad the steak was on the table. the place was packed so I was surprised at the service. The steak melted in your mouth. It was well worth the drive and the next trip to the mountains will include this place.

The Peddler One of my rare FIVE STARS. This is one of our favorite places - especially for special occasions. The steaks are absolutely fantastic, the atmosphere is awesome, and the service is first class. We were married in a chalet in Gatlinburg almost 25 years ago - quite a few of us in the wedding party ended up at this place after the wedding - lots of food - lots of drinks - a memorable time. If you visit Gatlnburg - you have to make time for this place. Make sure to pack a big wad of cash in the wallet - it's pricey - but worth it.

I have loved this place forever! I will go back...........but it was not as great as usual......the salad bar was amazing, my husband's steak was great, my prime rib was not it's usual outstanding......just okay. The hostess is over whelmed and shows her impatience. we know we will have to wait......say hello and maybe even be glad we are still coming here when we do have lots of new choices..........Hopefully next time they will be back up the their usual great standard.........

Disclaimer: This is a review based strongly on potential. I'm giving 2.5 stars, not 3; though I truly believe this place is a 4.25-4.5. The Peddler Restaurant on River Rd is an old fashioned steakhouse. Good. Beautiful decor, dark wood accents, leather, very low lights, at any moment you expect to see Frank, Dean and Sammy round a corner with two fingers of Lynchburg's finest. Good. Call ahead seating to avoid the hour wait. Good. -Learned an interesting trick at the bar... If you order a Jack and Coke, they pour 1.5 oz of Jack, just like any other place. BUT if you order a Manhattan, they fill the stinkin' glass to the top, TO THE TOP!, and splash vermouth in there.... I'll have a Jack Daniel's Manhattan, hold the vermouth, splash of coke, please. Yessir, Daddy just found a way to get a triple Jack and Coke for the same price as a single. Very, very good. I love bartenders.- Anyway, we get our table and it's in a corner, I love that. The server arrives before my butt hits the cushion. Good. Nice young man, very pleasant demeanor. Tells us that we may visit the salad bar now, and then a steak "Peddler" will come to take our entree order. Cool! Enter the salad bar. Let me just say this. Anchovies and Smoked Oysters. Really?! SWEET! This salad bar wasn't some 40yd monstrosity, but it was just freakin' perfect. Without a doubt, best salad bar I've ever seen, bar none. Good. So we get the salads and they're brutally awesome. Steak Peddler arrives with a cart. On his cart, there is raw meat... a big beautiful Ribeye and a huge N.Y. Strip. Not individual steaks, the whole stinkin' shank... Resisted the urge to tackle him and steal the meat. He cuts YOUR steak right there, to your order. 10oz minimum.... no maximum... oh man. Good. So after a while, we notice that our medium rare steaks haven't arrived, not really a big deal. We're having good conversation and I'm in no hurry. Josh, our server, comes to tell us that unfortunately, our steaks were mistakenly delivered to another table. Uh-oh. Still, I'm not miffed. This place is gorgeous and I'm happy. Not too long after that, our steaks arrive! Cut in to them, they're still a little too "alive" for our tastes, so please put them back on the grill for another minute each side. Hrmmph.. They arrive for a third time. Okay... this Ribeye that is in front me now, is not the same one that I just cut a moment ago. BAD. The food runner announces, "your 10oz Ribeye sir." I had ordered a larger steak. BAD. Made mention of this fact and he said they'd correct it on the bill. Well, this was the third time for my steak and by now I'm hungry. Sigh... This sad ribeye that is on my plate is nothing like the beautiful one that our Peddler had cut for us. This one is tapered from 3/4" on the thick side to barely 1/4" on the thin side. The thin side is well done. VERY BAD. By this time, I'm starving and I just eat the thing. Mind you, I'm still NOT mad, more disappointed than anything. My server took note that my steak was poorly cut and poorly cooked. Even as bad as it was cooked and cut, it still tasted pretty darn good. Now, with my service background, I know exactly what my server was thinking. "Oh my God everything has gone wrong with this table, I'm too embarrassed to even look at them now" He quietly brought our bill and departed. He didn't try to sell dessert. Hmm... Let's look at this bill. Full price. VERY, VERY BAD. Now, I'm close to being mad. This wonderful Steakery... This theater of poor coincidence. This is a place where you get freakin' awesome steaks! I'm positive of this! This beautiful monument to red meat can't be this bad. But doggone it, when you guys screw up 3 times on my beef, you should have a manager come to my table proactively. No one did. BADBADBADBADBADBADBAD. We paid the tab and on the way out, I see a man in a chef's coat. Enter Teddy, the kitchen manager. Before I go any farther, I want to tell all of you this: If you have a problem in a restaurant, you will get a much better result if you are calm, rational and show empathy to the service. Screaming and yelling is not going to help you a damned bit because the management knows you're not ever coming back again anyway. After I told Teddy everything that happened, he was embarrassed. He asked if we paid in cash, so he could simply give us our money back. I told him, no, I don't want that. I enjoyed everything but the steak. He was sincerely reaching out to me as a guest and wanted to make it right. VERY VERY GOOD. I told him not to worry, we will come back (and we will). So we made a deal that we could leave our car there for the rest of the night while we went out to the strip. Teddy was the man, he listened carefully, and immediately knew where the problem lay. I'm sure that he will tell the servers to inform a manager if there is a comedy of errors like that again. Peddler, You get a "B-" from me, but I foresee that easily being changed to a strong "A" at my next visit.

The salad bar and the steak were delicious. My only complaint is with the service which I understand is a hit and miss thing. First off, our server didn't seem to interested in us. When I asked her what kind of bourbons they had, she let out an exaggerated sigh and said "I don't know what we have, what do you want?" Then she eventually said, "Fine let me go ask." We had better service when she was on a smoke break and another server covered her section. My other complaint was with the person who was cutting the steaks. First off, he didn't know the difference between a NY Strip and a ribeye. He must have accidentally put two NY strips on his cart. He kept switching when pointing to the one that was the strip and the one that was the ribeye. When I asked him, he just picked one and said it was the ribeye when they were both identical. I was a bit disappointed as I prefer the marbling of a ribeye. I ended up picking the NY strip :) The big issue I had with him was with his total lack of attention to food safety. I watched the peddler a number of times, he didn't wear gloves and handled the steaks with both hands. The same hands that he used to push the cart around, grab the pad and pen to write your order down, pick up your menus... and whatever else he happened to do. I realize that this kind of thing happens in the kitchen but it was the menu thing that really disgusted me. Every person who have ever touched that menu just grabbed your steak. I can't believe this passed a health inspection. Maybe that's the secret to why they're so tasty, it's the extra seasoning.

This is a great steak house. River location is amazing, request a table with a view. Carving the steak table-side is a great idea that worked for us. We all got steaks cut to different sizes and it pleased everyone. Price is great for the quality. We have paid a lot more for a lot less quality. Only problem was the tables Are a little to close together. This caused issues when going to the salad bar. It's a minor problem though. Overall this is a place we would go back to often if we were locals.

Just left the Peddler disappointed. Biggest reason was our server "Matt". He came to our table shortly after seating and took our drink orders, mention something about prime rib being "featured" tonight. I came in wanting oysters and grilled trout but when he mentioned the prime rib I was interested. He said "what we have is in the menu" and you can get your salad. So I got up and went to the really nice salad bar (as far as salad bars go) when I came back the crown on the rocks that I ordered was a crown and coke. Then the "peddler" showed up I asked about the "featured prime rib" he said it was a menu item that they were featuring tonight. I asked featured how? He responded with a confused look. I assumed that it was featured because they had cooked too much the night before so I ordered the trout grilled. At this point nobody has asked me if we wanted an appetizer so no oysters for me tonight. Our meal came and finally Matt showed back up and asked how things were, I responded that all was well except my crown on the rocks was not, he apologized and left to get one. The trout had no flavor, I don't think they seasoned it at all. Then Matt brought the check by and he had charged me for the obviously still full crown and coke that he had screwed up the order on. I have been coming here for years and have recommended to all of my friends. I was surprised to have such a totally incompetent server, I will probably try again but not if I get Matt as a server.

Really the best rib eye steak I've ever had! Such a great reward dinner after the strenuous hike our group did up Mt LeConte. Love how they bring the rib eye and New York strip beef cuts to the table and custom cut the 10 ounce cuts if you choose one of those steaks. Otherwise you can order something else from the menu. 2 at our table had the chicken - 1 marinated and 1 blackened. The chicken was wonderful too! It was somewhat pricey but SOOO worth it! The salad bar comes with all entrees and is very good as well. Will definitely be back here every time we visit the Smokies.

When we're in Gatlinburg, we always make at least two trips to The Peddler. The steaks, drinks, service, salad bar, & atmosphere are always consistently good. This was our first time trying the French Onion soup and we were not disappointed. If you're looking for a non-touristy place to have a great steak with a beautiful view of the river, check out The Peddler. If you want to check it out, show up early or call ahead.

I'll give it 4.5 stars. This is a true old-fashioned steak house. It's all about the beef. They come to the table and cut your meat. Was cooked as I ordered, juicy, tasty. Good salad bar, simple sides. Dark steak house atmosphere. Arrive at 5 for the first seating if you want a seat overlooking the river. Steaks $25-$30.

We went here to celebrate our anniversary on Valentines Day 2012. We got there early to get on the list but still had to wait an hour to get a table. I was told that they would make it special for us since we were celebrating our 10th anniversary. Well we got seated in the worst table at the windows even though others were available. I noticed other tables had nice candlelight dinners placed whereas our table was empty. Special it was not. I finally mentioned this to the manager and they got it corrected quickly. We were moved to a better view with candle and tablecloth placed. The food was very good and we enjoyed ourselves after this was corrected. The staff did keep exclaiming when they walked by how we had the best seat in the house after our move. It felt like they were trying too hard to make up for me being upset over the situation. Overall great food, but staff needs to follow through with promises.

Had a hankerin' for steak, and I must say it was quite good. Perhaps a bit pricey ($29.95 for a 5oz petite fillet w/1 side & salad bar), but from what I've been reading that's to be expected here in Gatlinburg. Asked for med-rare, came out cooked perfectly. Bartender was friendly enough, although a bit busy & forgot to get me my silverware until I asked... This was my first ever dining experience here in Gatlinburg, so I've nothing else to compare it to. Quality of food was good, service was average (not bad, but not exceptional), price was a bit high though...the cut I had should have been $24.95 tops.

One of my favorite places in Gatlinburg to eat. Nice views if you get a table over looking the river. Had the stuffed shrimp which was great. It is slightly over priced though. If you are having dessert you must try the blonde brownie.

The Peddler . . . This is the place to take a special person or for a special event, not an everyday place to eat. The food is dynamite. The steak is brought out to you on a cart and you choose how thick you want your steak. The salad bar has pretty much everything on it and plenty of variety on it as well. The Peddler is top notch when it comes to service and food. The view is not shabby as well overlooking the river and the seating is of log cabins that used to be used around the area. I will tell you one thing, the reason I mentioned that this is a place for a special event or to bring some one special is that the price is steep. There is no reservations so its first come first serve. They are dinner only so look at getting there around 4-5pm. I would defentally try it at least once while in the area.

Hands down the best steak in the smokies!!! Never had a bad experience. We are from South Georgia, and go to the smokies every year. This is a stop we always make!! Excellent staff and service.

We deiced to try The Peddler based on the good reviews but were disappointed. We called ahead at 5:45 and they said the first available opening was at 7:30. We gave them our named, showed up at 7:20 and were seated at 7:40. There were people hanging out the door and a long wait time, so this was a plus. My husband ordered a combo of New York Strip and Stuffed Shrimp with Loaded Baked Potato and I ordered a combo with Filet and Coconut Chicken with Sweet Potato Casserole. We were expecting an enjoyable above average dinner, especially for the $35 price tag per person and were disappointed that the food was just ok. The steak was bland, the chicken was like 3 chicken tenders from O'Charleys with some sauce and coconut sprinkled on it, and the salad bar, although providing many options did not seem overly fresh and crisp. The best part of the meal was the potato sides. Total with tax, tip, and drinks was $100 and we left feeling very disappointed and like it was worth $50 at best. We most definitely will not be going back. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. It is not worth the hype or the price.

My husband and I had dinner here while visiting Gatlinburg for a few days. It was a perfect experience. The steak tasted like it just came off a charcoal grill...very tasty. The baked potato was the best I have ever had, and the salad bar had too much to choose from. The view of sitting beside the water only added to a great experience. The restaurant is pricey and it is first come first server but for that special night it is worth it.

I ate here for dinner one January night. There was plenty of parking (unlike anywhere else in town). Even though I did not have a reservation I was sat immediatly. I sat at the window overlooking the river that runs through Gatlinburg. The lighting was very intimate and atmosphere to match. It has a older cabin feel to it. It was very clean and well put together. Attention to detail everywhere. The wait staff was of the most friendly ive ever experienced. They were prompt and polite, friendly and accomodating. As we sat down we were immediatly met by our server who took our drink orders and invited us to sample the salad bar ** The salad bar was of the freshest ingredients available and were constantly being filled so no one item would run low. Once we sat with our salads a young man pushing a cart with two slabs of meat on it introduced himself as our Steak Peddler. He was the one to actually take our order. I ordered a 12ounce New York strip which he cut to size right there at the table while my newly made fiance' ordered the Marinated Chicken dish. As soon as he left our other server returned to drop off a basket of warm bread and refill our drinks. Our meals came out perfectly as we finished our salads. My New York strip steak was cooked to perfection just as I requested. I have to say to this day it is the best steak Ive had. It was juicy and hot and everything a steak should be. My fiance's Chicken was Delicious as well. Moist all the way through and so tasty. Overall I was very pleased with my eating experience. I will be returning the moment I get back to gatlinburg

My husband and I came here during our weekend trip in Gatlinburg. I had read reviews about the view of the river, the steaks and the atmosphere being romatic and cozy. Well, it didn't start out so great. The young host standing at the front was rude, and wouldn't speak to me. He just pointed to the other hostess, for me to go to. We went kinda late in the evening, 9:30 pm, and got seated quickly, which was great. Except they set us at a table right in the middle of the traffic at the salad bar and the kitchen. I was not very impressed. The place was more of a family enviroment, filled with kids and parents. It looked like at one time it may have been a great hole in the wall steakhouse for couples. But not tonight, both me and him were way overdressed, with everyone else wearing shorts and jeans. I was impressed with our waitress, when I asked if we could move to a table next to the window with a view of the river, she did not hesitate to move us. So our seating got a little better. As for the food, the salad bar was very fresh and good size. The ribeye was amazing. My husband said it was one of the best he ever had, if not the best. The wine list was long, not much beer on draft though. Although our waitress was nice to move us, she did forget to get us some water after we asked. We would go back for the food and the view, which was nice. But probably more for a early dinner, not a romantic date.

I have to be honest. All I got was the salad bar because entrees were a little steep. The salad bar was excellent, but at $13 it definitely should offer a little more. Feta cheese would have been nice, maybe a pasta salad or some other kind of salads, i.e, potato salad. The bread was warm and fresh. You can make a meal out of the salad bar, and it is well-stocked and fresh. The place was packed the night before Thanksgiving, but we were seated right away and service was attentive and friendly. Would have loved to get a table overlooking the river, so if you can, get there early enough to get one of those tables.

I actually have only eaten here once, a year a half ago on a visit to the area from California. We stayed in a cabin not far from Gatlinburg and had dinner here one evening. Everything here was superb, the service, the atmosphere, and the food. I have no criticism at all. This is what steakhouse is really all about. Cut to order at your table, cooked perfectly to order and a juicy and tender chew. The sides and rolls were also great (Oh man. I loved those dinner rolls). Top it off with a berry cobbler and coffee and you are in steakhouse heaven. The view of the stream out the window was a nice touch and the service was great. The waiter was friendly and we jawed about the area, Volunteer football, and the weather, of course. Great place. Hope to return someday for another slab of sirloin and another helping of southern hospitality.

Upon our arrival we assumed that there would be a bit of a wait judging by how full the parking lot was, but we were surprised to be seated right away despite the fact that there is six of us! The restaurant has a nice, cozy atmosphere. Despite how busy it was we were greeted promptly by our server who took our drink and appetizer order and told us to help ourselves to the salad bar at our leisure. The salad bar was great, lots of choice and everything was nice and fresh. While eating our salad another waiter came by with our steak choices on a cart, if this is what you choose to have he cuts your steak there in front of you and takes your order for anything else. My husband had the prime rib, I had a rib eye steak, while our kids had three kids size prime rib and a steak. The prices for the kids meals are great, it is $1 x your child's age up to 12. Our food came very quickly and the two waiters that brought it happily offered to help cut up our kids steak and prime rib for them! The food was excellent! After all this we managed to squeeze in a piece of the chocolate cake. This too was delicious but is definitely meant for sharing, it was huge! Overall it was a great dining experience for us. The food and service was outstanding!

Pricey, but delicious. I suggest sitting in the bar for best view of the river. Table are first come, first get. Service was great. Wonderful salad bar (I didn't know salad bars even existed anymore). Also own the Park Grill steakhouse 2 blocks away. We ate there, too. Menu is almost identical, but not as expensive. Recomment both.

3* is probably about fair. Regretfully they have 4* prices. Not sure if they know any definition of medium, medium rare, or rare. I think our steaks came out random. Thought my steak was under seasoned. The crazy thing is, they really don't have much more besides steak on the menu, so shouldn't they be good at it?

The service excellent, the view of the river beautiful. We had a reservation and was seated immediately The salad and rolls are included in the meal. We ordered the "choose your piece of steak" at the table side with a baked potato And that is exactly what we got. A plain baked potato (I thought it would be at least rolled in sea salt and pepper) with a steak that tasted like it was gas cooked instead of grill cooked. And on the plate was this green piece of nasty looking garnish. No vegetable. We had tea and soda as their was no liquor or wine being served until June 17 21015 ( but you could bring your own in?!?!?) We had been told this the "the place" to go. For a 70$ price tag for dinner for two.... I was expecting much much more. We will be returning to gatlinburg but not to the peddler

Many suggestions lead my friends and I to The Peddler Steakhouse on a warm April evening while touring Gatlinburg. Overall, a disappointing experience. They took our reservation over the phone after several attempts at calling them and receiving a busy signal. Call waiting was invented in the mid nineties, nice try Peddler. Then our eyes cartoonishly bulged out of our skulls as we looked at the prices; $31 for a 12 oz Prime Rib steak. What am I, the Pope? We are humble civil servants, not rich Gatlinburg folk, so that hit us hard. The service was really good, and the rolls were good, but aside from those small facts, our visit was marred by the atrocious prices. Not worth what you get, in our opinions. The salad bar was $13 ON ITS OWN! Who pays 13 bucks for a salad?! Apparently, anyone swindled by The Peddler. Count me as a sucker. Never again.

Been going to the peddler for many years now. Had dinner there this past Friday evening. Was a disappointed in the place. Always look forward to having the salad bar. Felt like they really skimped this time on it. Used to be able to make a full meal out of the salad bar. I felt there was just a lot of vegetables cut. Would always recommend it to other people. Not so sure I would do that anymore. I think I would recommend Calhoun's in pigeon Forge more than this place.

Great Views of the river! They have an amazing Salad Bar! Me and my Husband love the Filet!!!

  • Shelly D.

I give this two stars only because the 5 oz filet was good ....once it was cooked properly. Everything else was a major disappointment. This is formula dining...."here's your drink, go to the salad bar...order the mushrooms then we will take your steak order." The $13.99 (for four) stuffed mushrooms were cold...the sauce cold and thick like paste. The filet ordered medium was delivered raw in the middle and cold. The parsley on the plate was dry, old. To add to the misery....sitting, waiting for our table i sat on a damp cushion and didnt realize it til i stood....my shirt and pants were damp from what looked like spilled cola. When i told the hostess she said, "Oh, okay, I will tell the manager." They did comp the filet which is admirable. These people are pushing $37 steaks in a tourist restaurant. Definitely not fine dining. Not worth the money!!

Oh, Gatlinburg. You and your sublime views and you and your staggeringly mediocre-to-terrible food. Why. First of all, I cannot for the life of me figure out why everyone loses their mind at the salad bar. Stop it. It's a salad bar. It's a very decent one, I'll grant you, but if you've ever been to a real city, you won't be impressed. The greens weren't even especially crisp or bright. I also cannot figure out the outstanding Yelp reviews. Again, if you are traveling here from a city of any real size (even a large town, really) and have EVER had decent steak in your life, this is not going to blow your skirt up. The quality of the meat was fairly bad (honestly, I would expect better from an Outback even) and while I could normally forgive the mediocre quality in a rustic part of the country, it's the Vegas-meets-Disneyland prices that make me gawk. We spent over $100 for the two of us on what were clearly $14 steaks at best. Honey, no. If you have to eat here, get a glass or five of wine. That at least was decent and might help disguise the poor meal quality. Oh and sit by the window if possible (really impressive views). I don't think they take reservations (although they do have a call-ahead list I believe) and I assure you this place gets SLAMMED--like a 2 hour wait on a Saturday night (again, no clue). We had no wait when we came luckily--if I had waited even 10 minutes and then had to pay over $100 for this cafeteria steak, I just might have cried.

I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the meal but it was understanding. I had the blackened chicken and it was the best I've ever tasted. Several in our party had steak and they were all cooked perfectly. My wife ordered the fish and had to take over half of it back to the condo. If nothing else, order the desserts...those are worth it and are plenty big enough to share with several friends. Our waitress was superb despite it being after 8 before we sat down.

Wanted to have a nice sit down dinner after hiking and mini golf on a hot day. We arrived before they started seating at 5pm and ate appetizers in the lounge along the creek. It was peaceful and very comfortable. We ordered trout spread and crab stuffed mushrooms. Both were delicious and the basket of rolls were the best! My teenage boys were in heaven with that bread and butter! Entrees included a full and fresh salad bar. It was well stocked and clean. I ordered trout with a veggie skewer appetizer. Only disappointment is that I was told it had mushrooms, onions and squash. It did but only two very small button mushrooms, two thin slices of onion, and two slices each of green and yellow squash. It was good but I expected more significant mushroom and onion parts. My son got salmon and the other got sirloin, both were great and their side veggie was substantial. Service was friendly and efficient. We were one of the first tables seated and the waiting room remained full until we left.

First time visit to the Peddler in Gatlinburg won't be our last. I had a Ribeye, stuffed shrimp, twice baked potato & salad. Everything was fantastic! Salad bar was one of the best ever.

Filet and Blackened Chicken Combo! We heard great things about this place so we made a reservation. When we arrived we realized it was more fine dining than casual. They said it would be awhile before our table was ready and asked if we wanted to sit in the bar area. I jumped on that offer as we were more casually dressed. The bar area had a beautiful view. The service was great. Hillary was our waitress and she was great about explaining everything on our first visit. I say first visit because there will be many more. Entrees come with a trip to the salad bar. The salad bar was amazing. There were so many fresh items to put on your salad. Filet and blackened chicken combo with a baked potato was my entree choice. You simply must have steak at a steakhouse but I also wanted to know what the chicken was like so the combo was the perfect choice. Both the steak and the chicken were seasoned perfectly and tender. I wish I would have had room for dessert. I'm sure it would have been just as wonderful as our meal.

With a friendly, relentless work force, the Peddler wowed us from the start. Our waitress filled our waters to the brim after any signs of emptiness; the service was on point. The food was a tongue tingling treat. The sweet potato casserole was laced with love and made me feel warm inside. The steaks were of substantial size and were as tender as my mothers heart. And the salad bar offers a smorgasbord of options for any food connoisseur. Overall, the peddler is a must for anyone who goes through Gatlinburg.

We usually love coming to The Peddler. The prices are not too bad for the quality of food. I have no idea where other diners were eating when they were talking about low quality steaks. The steaks here are amazing. The only problem we had this visit was that they were temporarily not serving wine or liquor, which was a huge disappointment because we always enjoy wine with a dinner such as this. We will be back if they ever get that situation figured out.

I dined at the peddler on a sunday evening and was throughly disappointed by my visit. I had dinner with my friend and her small children. First of all we ordered an appetizer the Brie with apple slices and bread, yet when we went to enjoy the salad bar (the only good part of the visit), we came back and immediately were served our entrees, our server must have completely forgot about our appetizer. Second off, my friends daughters, ages 3 & 8, received meals that left much to be desired. Last but not least, My friend and I both ordered grilled fish dishes, the trout for her and the salmon for me, thinking it would be fresh and delicious and great with grilled vegetables on the side yet both of the fish immensely lacked any sort of flavor and for $25 dollars I expected a lot better quality. I will not return and literally felt robbed of spending so much money on something so bland.

I have been eating at the peddler for at least 20+ years, this place is a long time Gatlinburg site. Up until the past couple of years I would have given it 10 stars without thinking. One of my must eat places when in town (I am here about 6 times a year on business and pleasure). The past couple of years unfortunately it has been hit or miss on food (steak) quality (the steaks are what use to keep me coming back). I am not sure if they have changed their meat supplier, or lost a main cook or what. Tonight my rib eye was rare on one end and dry as a bone on the other (ordered it medium and I can eat a good steak cooked anywhere between rare and medium well if it is a good cut of meat) with a lot of meat that I had to cut off and not eat. It is a shame as I love this place, but if it continues to be this way I might not make it back nearly as often. They have the best kids meal deal I have ever seen and the salad bar is always great as well as the general ambiance (except for the front dining area). Please either fix what has changed with the steaks even if you have to raise prices. I have no problem paying $50+ for a decent steak of that is what it will take to bring back the quality. I also don't mind waiting 2+ hours in the busy season if the food is going to be awesome. Our waitress was good tonight, but our steak peddler seemed like he would have rather been elsewhere.

Went there yesterday and was so looking forward to it! The pictures I looked up were amazing! The rolls, salad bar and dessert were awesome. However, the very high priced main course was so very disappointing! Me and my 20 year old daughter ordered the New York Strip and my young daughter ordered chicken (there isn't a kids menu, or if there is, we were unaware of it). The steak has zero flavor and I'm not picky at all! I can eat almost anything and am not one to complain. My youngest daughter didn't like her chicken either (however, she IS picky). I didn't complain to anyone. I just paid my $134.00....yes that's right, $134.00 and left. So dissatisfied and we will never return there!!!!

We came to Gatlinburg over Memorial Day weekend to do some hiking for our first anniversary trip. We had dinner at The Peddler on Saturday night. The atmosphere is nice, and the riverside dining is lovely. Unfortunately our waitress was less than enthused about serving us. My husband's chicken was served raw in the middle. We politely and quietly asked if it could be re-served. They acted as if it was a steak that was cooked to the wrong temperature, and offered no apology or comped dish. They took another 15 minutes to bring the second chicken dish out, so we ended up eating separately for our meal. Rather disappointing. Other than that, the wine list is mediocre at best and very overpriced. The trout was good!

Wow on the salad bar everything you want or could think of even smoked oysters. The service is fantastic and the staff is friendly and super helpful. The food came fast and was very good. Fresh bread and whipped butter will put you in heaven before the meal even comes to the table.

  • Ustr N.

Mediocre food is definitely not worth the price. The highlight of our meal was the outstanding salad bar. My husband's steak was so tough he decided to finish my steak rather than eat his own. Unfortunate since he opted to upgrade to the larger steak, money down the drain. the side dishes were ho-hum. You're better off going to the sister restaurant, the Park Grill. I've never had a bad meal there.
