Went on a Sunday night. Used to love this place, but not lately. 2 grilled cheese sandwiches and 3 fried chicken salads took over 25 minute in an almost empty place. Drinks not kept refreshed. Sandwiches were cold, salads prepared incorrectly with sub par ingredients. The 3 that ate salad all had overnight issues! They did say sorry when called. Too many choices to return here. It's a shame,,because we have been lots and it was a favorite stand by, but no more.

Came here for breakfast a few weeks ago on a business trip. The food is hit or miss. The eggs tasted like I made them in high school, not like they were made in a restaurant. Everything on the breakfast menu will give you heart disease. However... I had a 3 scrambled eggs with cheese, 2 pancakes, bacon, biscuits, grits and OJ for about $10. This may be why the country is fat, but it's also why I was happy.

Needs to be put out to pasture... We went on a Sunday after church, when they are definitely busy. Decor is definitely tired. Wait staff was friendly but definitely slow. I think we should have gotten more food for the price. I would classify this more as a classic American, not as much southern or soul food. I think the Black Eyed Pea in Hendersonville is better restaurant with similar menu, and value for the money for that matter.

We love this place. Been coming here for years. BEST BREAKFAST in Nashville. Food is always hot and good and the staff is awesome. A really good family place.

A bit dodgy... The staff is friendly. You are greeted quickly and the wait staff seem nice. I've been here several times with co-workers, so this review is based on probably seven or eight visits. This place is just a bit tired. I don't know if it's the carpet or the decor, or what, but it feels like it needs a good freshening up. The food is okay. I tried the fried-chicken sandwich, and the chicken itself was pretty good. But overall, it's a greasy sandwich, and just feels really heavy. My wife tried the mac-and-cheese and it had the out-of-a-can, tell-tale, creamy cheese gack like you get in the lunch line at elementary school. Vittles had the opportunity to make some real mac-and-cheese, a Southern food classic, but they went with the can. There are many better choices around.

Food is great! Service is slow! The blonde lady at the front was here 2 weeks ago and she is the most rude person! The wait staff appear stressed and the owners are just standing around doing nothing. I will return but I will be prepared to wait a long time for service. The food is worth it!

There's a good reason this place has only a 2.5 average rating! It doesn't deserve any more! I'm embarrassed to admit I came without first checking out the reviews on yelp......yeah I know....I do know better! I ordered the turkey club sandwich that normally comes with both deli ham & deli turkey. For $9, I don't think it was unreasonable of me to expect a half decent sized sandwich. I substituted turkey for the ham, and upon the waiter delivering the sandwich, I queried him as the sandwich was quite thin. He assured me the quantity had been doubled. Well, that coupled with the fact it was standard deli meat you'd get at Kroger, I figure I'm being generous in awarding two stars. They provided a small container of Cole slaw. Iced tea was $2. I gotta pay attention to my fellow yelpers!

Waited three minutes for a table at 12:15 on a Tuesday. The waitress took my order of club sandwich and fries. I received a call about a sick child after I was served my drink. When I saw the waitress again I explained about my call. She said she would have it wrapped up and ready in a few minutes. I received my meal within 20 minutes of arriving at the front door. When I went to pay the blonde hostess on my way out she insisted I only pay for half. I only ate half my sandwich because it was so big. The meal was delicious even on the run. I'll be back. Great staff! Great food!

Average food, average service, this place is just barley okay. It will do in a pinch because Brentwood lacks many breakfast places but I always regret going here.

The food isn't bad. It's just not great. Decent prices for large servings. Service is slow and the three times I've gone the order has in some way been incorrect.

The food was fresh, hot and good. We've never had a bad experience. The deserts are homemade and not to be missed. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a good home style meal.

Breakfast Buffett, while well stocked, is not covered with sneeze guards, etc. Gross to think about. Glad I was first customer of day! Food was just ok, still really surprised it's legal to put out a Buffett and omelette station this way.

Good little southern meat and 3. Grandparents love this place- haha. Staff was friendly, especially with our little one :) Large selection of veggies- favorites were the sweet potato fries and cabbage! Big portions. Spent a long time chatting with the fam and never felt rushed. Fruit tea was yummy as well. Too bad we were too full to try dessert!

Very slow & disorganized. People who were seated well after we sat down were served well before our table of two. Food is mediocre at best. The Chicken & dumpling was no more than chicken soup with some chewy dough. Nashville has many great southern style restaurants but this is not one. The blonde lady at the door said "I know all about business" when I remarked about how to treat customers. Not a good experience. We paid full price for the meal but the bad service was free.

We enjoy taking our family to Vittles. Their catfish is great.

A cozy, little breakfast place that gives large portions for less cost than an average place. Everything ordered was delicious, the biscuits, gravy and sausage hit the spot and a little peppery which gave it great flavor. Definitely a go back to place!

Do yourself a favor and eat ANYWHERE else. Blech. We went for breakfast, and it was one of the worst I've ever had. Everything was just warmed up from a box in the freezer. This is not Southern food. Add to the bad food a waiter and apparent manager who truly did not seem to care at all about us or the restaurant experience. When asked, I did express my unhappiness with the meal. I was clear that my "French toast" was bad and not even hot. The manager comped our drinks- an iced tea and a hot tea. Good lord. I nearly said "good gravy" but I don't want to give you the impression that their gravy is good!

Very nice neighborhood service, food was pretty good. Told me I could get my bacon deep fried in the chicken fried steak batter in the morning if I ask them, Yeah Buddy!!

This is an old person's restaurant - the menu and the decor reflect it. The service is sub-par, as is the food. For some reason, the men at work really like the place, but I think it's directly related to their love of unhealthy, deep-fried food. I'll more than likely be forced to go here again, but it won't ever be by choice.

Vittles. After a good church service with friends, our host took us to this cozy spot to eat some breakfast. Although it did not surpass the experience at the Pancake Pantry, it did its job. I was satisfied with my Smoky Mountain eggs and smothered hash browns. It was just enough. The fruit looked a little swarmy but after the hash browns and eggs, I really didn't want it. Now, I don't eat pork but my friends did and I must say it spelled good...almost made me want to eat it...but I didn't. So if you are in the area and don't want to go anywhere that will most likely be crowded on a Sunday morning due to the church crowds and don't want to go home to cook and don't want to spend an arm and your firstborn at Starbucks, then Vittles just might be your spot.

This place was described as some of the best down home cooking around Nashville. I have to disagree. The waitress was very friendly and pleasant, and this is nothing against her, but it was obvious from the view I had of the kitchen, that the used the most basic ingredients that were purchased in bulk from Sysco or the like. We arrived a bit late for lunch (3pm) and it looked like it from the freshness of the food. I got the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, greens, okra and a biscuit. The best part of the meal was the greens & biscuit. The potatoes were VERY salty, and the meatloaf had a thick varnish of dried ketchup on top. I was dry and hard to break apart with the fork. The okra was tiny, and tasted of freezer burn. There was no way this stuff was even close to fresh. I probably should have just ordered a chicken sandwich - that is the only thing on everyone's menu that is too simple to screw up. If you want down home cooking - the best I've had was at Shilo's in Tulsa.

I like Vittles. They have good fried chicken , mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and sweet tea. The service is typically slow, but the waitresses and waiters are very polite.

I ate at Vittles several times when I worked in Brentwood. Good Southern cooking. Friendly staff. Large portions. Good place for work groups to meet for lunch.

I read a lot of negatives comments about this place but my experience was wonderful. My expectations were low because it was 3 in the afternoon. I was greated promptly with a nice smile, server was prompt and very friendly, again with a smile. Food was hot and tasty, servings where well portioned, not too little not too much, was just right. Atmosphere was relaxing, the decor was tasteful, not overbearing. Price was in line with most Brentwood area restaraunts, maybe a little cheaper. I plan on checking them out during a regular lunch or dinner schedule to see if a crowd changes things. All in all I would say the folks with negatives reviews might try them again, maybe they listened to your comments and made changes. Thats what this is all about folks, helping people find good food and service and helping business's improve there food and service.

It was a blustery day out so we decided to branch out and go to Vittles for some comfort food for dinner. The atmosphere is what can be expected, an older crowd and some crying kids (not my cup of tea); however, the food was so excellent, we were able to overlook things that would normally irritate us. Our server, Drew, was great. His recommendations were spot on, he was knowledgeable of the menu (heck, he even made the chili), and kept our drinks full. I ordered the chicken and dumplings with squash casserole and mashed potatoes and my bf ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes, cheesy grits, and hashbrown casserole. It was enough food for an army. Everything was flavorful and quite enjoyable when you are in the mood for a carb overload, which we were. The best part about our experience was dessert. Per our server's recommendation, we ordered the carrot cake and banana pudding, both made in house. The carrot cake was the best I've ever had, and I take my carrot cake very seriously. It was a huge serving, super moist, perfectly spiced and well frosted. The banana pudding was almost custard like and equally delicious. Unfortunately I was so full from my country dinner that I could barely enjoy dessert. My bf, however, had no problem. We decided it would be great to go back for dessert and coffee one time.

Fast service moved our plates to our table. Unfortunately the side dishes tasted metallic, like beans from a big bulk metal can. Waitress said much of their food is not really fresh, but from Sysco commercial bulk food manufacturer. It does taste like old manufactured food. Kids are more than welcome here and the menu has items they will eat.

Average Meat & 3 (or should be called Meat & 2). Slightly overpriced. The corn fritters are a great side.
