Great food. Great place to go with the kids on Sunday nights for the magician! No white cheese though, please. I see several people complaining of the same thing. Cheddar please!

Ask for Luis the Manager! And Jill sings on Saturdays! Went with friends again tonight, they had live music that was really good. Not my favorite chips and salsa but really great Carne Asada Tacos with tender, not-dried-out steak. Friends got the number 46 or 42...chicken dish that was yummy, great seasoning and tender. Our server was great and of course Luis came by frequently to refill our Margarita's, and check to see if anyone wanted to dance with him. No takers in our group tonight, sorry Luis!

The food here is fresh, joy and delicious. I highly recommend it. The prices were very reasonable.

Really want to like this place. It was not bad, the food was okay but the use process cheese not natural cheddar. And what is the deal in TN on quesadillas ? The name alone means CHEESE, everywhere we order in TN it's meat and very little cheese. They are made all wrong.... Head down south and take a cooking lesson..... back to the review.... So the food was all right less the cheese issue, the marg was okay not great bu $9.99 it should have blown my socks off (if I had any on). The killer for me at this restaurants was all the kids, it was like Chuck E. Cheese's in this place. I think every family with kids in Brentwood came here to have dinner with me and my wife! If you have kids and like just okay mex then give it a try and skip Taco Bell tonight.

Mexicali was an anchor for it's former location further south on Carouthers. We visited there with friends and for lunch meetings since 2000 when it first opened. At the former location the service was outstanding, the two brothers that ran/owned it, were always there and things were efficient. It was also a friendly happy place. Only one member of the former staff seems to have made it to the new location. The service is now terrible and the staff is devoid of anything resembling hospitality. The food is still decent, but it was never any better than any of the other white-plate Mexican places, the draw was the service and atmosphere. The reason we'll never be back is that each time we've gone to the new location, maybe three times, there's been a table of 'friends of employees' sitting around looking at you waiting for the server to come back by to chat. It's like you're being stared at as soon as you walk in by a table of people that are obviously just there hanging out with employees. We never saw this once at the previous locale and no professionally managed business allows this.

I've been going here for about 15 years. I love the staff and they have tons of veggie options. If you are a vegetarian ask for the mr.louis special. It's basically fajita veggies and Mexican rice combined into one dish but the seasoning is way better and it comes with queso (side note: the best white queso in town). I literally go here every time I'm back in town. Can't wait for my next trip! Also if you are feeling adventurous and can handle really spicy food try mr. Louis' spicy rice! It's my favorite dish hands down and also mexicali's best kept secret . Warning though: it's really hot. This dish is so good I almost didn't want to share haha.

Fast seating for lunch. Good music vibe and its low lighting is very calming and serene with the music playing. Very clean as well which is always a plus! The food came out in 7 minutes and although it is a bit salty it was very delicious and well presented .

We moved to Nashville from Arizona and have tried to find several places that can even come close to the amazing mexican restaurants we have in Az. Several have failed but I was pleasantly surprised by Mexicali. From the chips and salsa, which we could tell was homemade, to the fajitas and refried beans. The food was excellent and we look forward to going back many times.

Food was boring.... Service was terrible.... It wasn't the worst Mexican I ever had... If you're looking for a Mexican fix, this will cover it... But if you want a pleasant experience and delicious food, this ain't it!

Worst service. Food was bland, flavorless and dry. Tortillas were cold and stale. Sever was rude when asked about the difference in the burritos. Their Hot and Spicy burrito should be renamed Dry and Bland. Their grill fajita chicken was dry, no flavor. Never going back.

Very disappointed, this place has gone down hill. Will not return. If you want good Mexican go to El Sombrero.

Probably my favorite kind of standard Mexican restaurant in cool springs. Good chips and salsa. I always get the fajitas, which are usually plenty of food, evven for a big guy like me, and they taste great.

We decided to try a different Mexican restaurant other than Cozymels. Bad decision! Mexicali grill wasn't very good. I ordered a fajita quesadilla - the meat was good, but they used white processed American cheese instead of cheddar. I don't understand why most Mexican restaurants in Nashville use this white processed cheese. They need to go out west and take cooking classes from restaurants in Colorado, California, or Arizona. My husband ordered a combo meal and said it was okay, but he didn't like the chips or salsa. The margaritas weren't that good and were expensive! The service was the only positive thing and earned the restaurant 2 stars instead of 1. Also, if you don't have kids stay away on Sunday night.

Food was decent, service was ... well, we were all but forgotten about. It made what should have been a half-hour dinner into more than an hour. We had all but cleaned our own table by the time someone came over to us.

I LOVE Mexicali Grill! We visit frequently and the service and food are outstanding! Saturday nights from 6-9 they have live music and Sunday nights are kids night, both have great performers!

This is a great lunch spot during the week. The service is quick and the staff is friendly. The food is about what you would expect from a well-run privately owned Mexican restaurant - you know, the usual characters on the menu. Try the chimichanga, it's pretty good.

Food was just okay. Queso was very thin and runny. Service was poor. Waiter never brought straws for our drinks even after we asked. Too many other good Mexican restaurants in the area so I don't think we"ll be going back.

Our family eats there weekly. The staff is great and our kids are welcome. We have 5 kids and everyone has their own "usual" meal there. Food is consistently good and recently has been definitely above average tasting. New location but still the same "Mexicali" feel. Wouldn't pass up an opportunity to eat there. We have celebrated birthday parties, anniversaries, and events with groups large and small. One of my favorites. Try the #46 (with steak) or #49. Fish tacos range from decent to amazing. #44 is always a great option. Enjouy.

stopped in for lunch. Greated and seated promptly. Drink order taken and delivered promptly but took a bit for her to come back to take the order. Free chips and salsa but the salsa was bland. Had the fajita quesedilla (sp). Was large and plenty of cheese but the steak was bland. didnt taste any fajita seasoning at all. No hot sauces on the table like most Mexican restaurants. Had to ask for it and I was half way through the meal before she brought it. It was hot though, just the way I like it. Price was a bit high compared to others in the area. Overall it was ok, will try them again. Oh, they dont have a liquor license yet so no margaritas but they are waiting on the city/state to approve it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
