I knew what I was getting myself in to when I decided to eat at this Southern franchise. I was going to fill myself up to the seams with straight up greasy, buttery, fatty goodness, and I was well-prepared. I normally do not review franchises, but this was my first Bojangles experience, so why not? There needs to be a Bojangle's in Texas. It would fit right in with its obesity-causing environment and all. It is the perfect hodgepodge of all things Southern and comforting to the soul. I pulled up and ordered everything possible: a steak and potato, which is a chicken fried steak biscuit and bo-tatoes; a sweet potato pie pocket; a fried chicken thigh and leg; and macaroni and cheese. The service sucked, but no matter, it is a fast food joint. You can expect no more than mediocre workers. The biscuit was amazing. It was buttery, crisp, moist, tender... everything you want. Especially since Bojangles does these on a large scale--all across the Southeast. The bo-tatoes are interesting. Think of a jazzed up tater-tot in a flatter, rounder form. Yep; awesome. The chicken fried steak could have used a better crust; it was a bit soggy, but what can you expect? The meat was not bad. But $2 for this biscuit+bo-tatoes? Yes, please. The fried chicken was solid. Crispy, juicy, and flavorful. Nothing special, but well-executed. The macaroni and cheese was a bit artificial tasting, but cheesy nonetheless. My sweet potato pie dessert was a mix of a pastry and donut and churro. It had a cinnamon dusting, a thick dough, and an odd brown-orange sweet potato-like filling. Not bad for a fast-food dessert. Very similar to McDonald's apple pies. If you see a Bojangles and have never been, make it a point to go. It may be tiresome for people who have it on a regular basis, but I reallly enjoyed my (hopefully only) one visit. If I was a frequent customer, I may die of a heart attack.
