We heard about this place from some fellow swimmers at table rock swimming hole. They said they had the Friday night seafood buffet. We were just in time for the build your own burger. It was the sloppiest, messiest, awesomest hamburger I've ever had! And you get your choice from the ice cream bar it comes with your meal! I had an awesome pralines and cream cone! Unbelievable! It is a very cool place, Like more elaborate and family oriented Cracker Barrel. Very cool hanging out on the porch on the rocking chairs. I highly recommend. We are already making an excuse to get to the upstate for a visit. It's a hidden gem in SC!
Dripping with Southern charm, Aunt Sue's offers home cooking and friendly service. We went for the Sunday buffet. Fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy (and sweet tea) were all prepared like my mom and grandmother made them. Strawberry shortcake for dessert meant we were totally stuffed when we left. It was a bargain at $10.95. We'll come back again when we're in the Blue Ridge area.
Absolutely the worst meal I have eaten in the area. Service was slow and rude. I know that this is a small town but a child could run it better.

I knew what I was getting myself in to when I decided to eat at this Southern franchise. I was going to fill myself up to the seams with straight up greasy, buttery, fatty goodness, and I was well-prepared. I normally do not review franchises, but this was my first Bojangles experience, so why not? There needs to be a Bojangle's in Texas. It would fit right in with its obesity-causing environment and all. It is the perfect hodgepodge of all things Southern and comforting to the soul. I pulled up and ordered everything possible: a steak and potato, which is a chicken fried steak biscuit and bo-tatoes; a sweet potato pie pocket; a fried chicken thigh and leg; and macaroni and cheese. The service sucked, but no matter, it is a fast food joint. You can expect no more than mediocre workers. The biscuit was amazing. It was buttery, crisp, moist, tender... everything you want. Especially since Bojangles does these on a large scale--all across the Southeast. The bo-tatoes are interesting. Think of a jazzed up tater-tot in a flatter, rounder form. Yep; awesome. The chicken fried steak could have used a better crust; it was a bit soggy, but what can you expect? The meat was not bad. But $2 for this biscuit+bo-tatoes? Yes, please. The fried chicken was solid. Crispy, juicy, and flavorful. Nothing special, but well-executed. The macaroni and cheese was a bit artificial tasting, but cheesy nonetheless. My sweet potato pie dessert was a mix of a pastry and donut and churro. It had a cinnamon dusting, a thick dough, and an odd brown-orange sweet potato-like filling. Not bad for a fast-food dessert. Very similar to McDonald's apple pies. If you see a Bojangles and have never been, make it a point to go. It may be tiresome for people who have it on a regular basis, but I reallly enjoyed my (hopefully only) one visit. If I was a frequent customer, I may die of a heart attack.

Pickens has a handful of eateries, but this is actually one of the only homestyle joints that I have found in the area. I dropped in on a Sunday morning, and there was a nice group of 8 guys getting ready to start their days I think. The prices here are really affordable; my huge burger was $3.85, and my 3 medium-sized pancakes were $1.35! This eatery is a great place to fill up on the cheap. My burger was a little burnt, but I actually did not mind the crispy parts too much. The chili was a tad boring, as it was just ground up meat slapped onto my bun... that also made my bun soggy. The silver dollar pancakes were flavorful, and they possessed a fairly good texture: fluffy, with some slightly crisp edges. I thought this establishment was decent for a Sunday breakfast; the service is fast, and the fairly large restaurant is pretty inviting and low key as it is located OFF of the main strip... not that there is much of a main strip to go around.

If you are hankering for a hot dog and somehow find yourself in Pickens, I would recommend you to Heidi's. It seems like a weird operation to have in a strip mall; I cannot possibly imagine how much money they actually make in a day... probably not a lot, as their hot dogs are very affordable. I was looking around for a local establishment, and Heidi's popped up on my radar, so I stopped in. This joint is really low-key and no-frills. I got 2 hot dogs for $4.25; all hot dogs come with chili. I played the field and went with a coleslaw dog and a FIRE dog. The coleslaw dog tasted like a plain chili dog with coleslaw on top. The FIRE dog was a chili dog with some mild jalapeno relish. I also tried their chow-chow relish, which was a lot more flavorful than the jalapeno relish. You may think to yourself, "Why are you giving them such a low rating if they are just serving plain ol' weenies in buns?" To you, I reply that my hot dogs were not hot, just lukewarm at best. This is a nice family-oriented establishment, so do your duty and patronize them, but I will say that Bojangle's down the street is more attractive for a gut-busting meal.

Reviews:
I was excited to finally get off-site after a week (of work) to have a meat-and-3, and I had been eyeing Bantam for quite some time. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. A lot of people seem to go here for the ice cream. It is certainly a local favorite, from what I saw. The offerings are straighforward, but the pricing is fairly steep for a simple mom-and-pop eatery. My meal tipped $8, whereas I am used to paying roughly $6 for a meat and 3. It comes with tea and a roll, but I would have preferred cornbread. The pork chop was dry, the mac and cheese was room temperature, and the turnip greens were watered down. Everything was also very underseasoned. I am especially sodium-dependent because I have had a whole bunch of salt-laden country ham whilst in the. The saving grace of the meal was the corn nuggets. They were crisp, creamy, and just the right amount of runny on the inside. Do choose these as a side if you are going with a meat and veggie option. Bantam Chef is a passable quick meal option if you are passing through Pickens, but I would shoot for something a bit better if possible!

This was the worst service I've ever had. I did not receive what I ordered, and our waitress did not check on us after the food came so I never got to eat. When I went to pay, I asked for a to go box. The guy behind me at the register was in such a huge hurry to get out of there, he told the cashier not to leave to get my box. She listened to him, and waited on him instead of me even though I was there first.
