Came up on another local jewel. Great she crab soup! And really enjoyed the Shrimp Po'Boy sandwich! I gave 4 stars bc there was no beer on tap! Sometimes...on a Saturday...you want a good cold beer...on tap. But the service, food, and atmosphere definitely make up for it!

This place is very.. interesting. However, it seems to be the only thing going on in Georgetown, so if you visit the riverfront there, I suggest stopping here for lunch. We had a bucket of steamed oysters, they were tasty. Nothing remarkable. My gumbo left a bit to be desired. Solid 3 star dish. The service was good, nothing amazing or terrible. This place has character, and I am sure it gets busy on nights and weekends, but when we were here it was just meh. I look forward to updating my review for the better after I make another visit (reluctantly) to Georgetown.

Cool little place along the marina. This is a dive bar, so know that going in. We stopped in for a late lunch on the way to Pawleys Island for the weekend. Service was so-so, but the food was good and inexpensive. We both had the fried fish sandwich with fries. I'd try it again (maybe) for a beer and a sandwich, but would probably check out other places nearby first.

Say it ain't so! Unfortunately, my family and I did not have a good overall experience today at the Big Tuna. The service was so slow I just cancelled my second Bud Light. Yes, I've never been to Big Tuna and drank only one beer, especially on a Holiday. Also, don't order the crab/shrimp combo salad. Too pricey, not a great taste, and not that much food. But we'll be back. It's a staple in these parts.

Yup you will find a friendly dive bar on the water with some very COLD bottles of beer. The oyster po-boy I had was a big hit. Thin sliced rib eye sandwiches were enjoyed by the ladies. Burger was enjoyed by Bernie who likes it like a hockey puck so who really knows. Funny part of the meal is the local young male servers accent made us feel like we were deep in the bayou.

The fried okra special was very good! We sat outside and enjoyed the great weather. Service good and the atmosphere was amazing!

How can anyone seriously give this restaurant more than 2 stars and even that's being gracious! I hate when I hear " we can't do that!" My kids wanted to split a streak sandwich but one of them didn't want the onions or mushrooms. How hard would it be to not add such simple ingredients??? Tuna tartare was nothing special. Very small portion for the money. Steamed clams were good but why would you put the bread on top of the clam broth? The bread was soggy when it arrived at the table. My biggest complaint was they advertise River Front Dining??? HUH! The water below the patio was polluted, very dirty and had oil floating everywhere. Nasty! I bet it comes from all the paper mills and plants in the area. Would not go back. Not a great restaurant!

Dive bar. Local hangout on the water. There for lunch. Service slow, place is a throw-back to old river side bars, real cool. Grouper is great. The best thing is the river view. Just don't look right at the industrial area and the paper mill. If there, stop in, a must. Frank G

The atmosphere was great and we sat on the deck with our dog and enjoyed the weather. My gumbo was so-so, his she crab soup was so-so, the oyster po-boy sandwiches were pretty good. Service was so-so. The best part was the outdoor seating

I walked in through the boardwalk side and was completely turned off by the customers that had their bare feet propped up on the bar. Gross and highly inconsiderate of other diners. $22 for 8 pieces of shrimp, beans and coleslaw seems really pricey to me and I'm used to eating in pricier cities than Georgetown. I also expected the crab salad to be on an actual salad bed. It was filled with shells; whoever prepped the meat did not do an adequate job. The tuna cheviche was pretty good; it was well seasoned. The fried pork chops were tasty but it's really hard to mess up fried food. If I pass through Georgetown again I'll most likely try another restaurant.

Excellent food, excellent service, even late on Sunday. Outstanding local shrimp, it was sweet and not heavily breaded, which was perfect. Sassy the macaw even said goodbye...just a great restaurant on the waterfront.

Not worth it! The calamari we weren't even sure what fish it was, but it wasn't great. The grouper sticks my kids liked. The grits looked gross and thick. I ordered the tuna app and it was five bits for $14. The gumbo was greasy from sausage and didn't have rice. My husband ordered the shrimp po boy and it looked like cafeteria food. Store bought bun and small amount of shrimp. Expensive dive food!

Service was a tad slow, but not outrageous. We survived. Soup had to be re-heated and our spoon for soup was forgotten. Once corrected we were fine. Had four things (wife and I had two appetizers each) 1. Calamari - fried pretty darn good because of the sauce. I give 4 stars 2. Steamed clams - just ok/ mediocre. I give 2 stars. Tabasco brought it up. 3. She crab soup pretty awesome. 5 stars. 4. Gumbo. Good but below average. Too much tomato. 3 stars. Atmosphere - laid back and chill. good place. Relaxed. Suggestions - ok, I'm dead smack in the middle of low country and no low country boil? Really? Shame. I had to leave town, cancel my hotel, and sleep in a ditch. Well. Not really. But I was disappointed, wanting me some Low Country Boil... Good prices on domestic and imported beers $3/$4. Cool. Great setting.

A more rustic laid back dinning experience. Come in for a beer or lunch/dinner. Seating inside or outside by the water front. Food is good and portions ok. I like the fish sandwich and she crab soup. On Thursday nights they do sushi and it's pretty good.

First stop at the Big Tuna ... Will return. I had a delicious Oyster Po Boy, breading on big plump oysters was peppery and instead of the overflow of shredded lettuce it came with a leaf of crisp romaine lettuce. My husband had the fried grouper sandwich and was also impressed with it. Next visit will be to the seating on the harbor!

** The address is 807** I have to be honest, I was very skeptical when we came in. It seems more like a bar and we were the only ones ordering dinner at first (we didn't realize their was another room in the back). However we were blown away after the first appetizer arrived. The She Crap Soup was out of this world. And each item after that was just as amazing. We had the crab cakes and the grits. I just wish the prions were a little larger. Would definitely return.

I'm just gonna cover the basics on this review, because I'm on my phone and can't type for s#!+ on it (sorry, it's true!). We'd been driving for HOURS, heading to Pawley's Island, and the rest of the people in my car (ok, they are family) would have easily jumped on any ole nasty drive-thru food. Yech, not me. And guess what? I just happen to be the navigator - there ARE perks to the job after all - so they were going where I told them to go! Finally we reached the point of no return, where there really aren't even any fast food options - or other for that matter - until you reach Georgetown. Consulting yelp, as any good navigator does, let me know that there were LOTS of good options along Front St. So we headed there, not set on one definite place, but definitely all starving and beginning to get really grumpy. I never even saw the street front of the Big Tuna, OR the inside of the restaurant. We parked in the only spot we could find (it was a Saturday) and walked straight through this tiny mall to get to the marina "boardwalk". Looked right and left and hubby went straight to the Big Tuna with instructions to check out the menu. Well, he never came back. Yeah. So, it was packed and people were waiting 30 minutes for a table. The sun felt fabulous - but was pretty quickly sweltering as I stood around hungry and thirsty in that heat - waiting for my husband to step up and be my knight in shining armor. HA! Pruneville here I come! It seems, while strolling to or from the hostess desk, he walked right by his brother and his family who were sitting at a table on the deck (enjoying drinks). Naturally, all thought of his wife just disappeared as he quickly got into conversation with them. Before you know it, niece and nephew were kicked out of their chairs and hubby was sitting, chatting and enjoying a cold one. Me? Pruneville! Um, yeah. But, this is about the restaurant. He took their table, which was outside. Atmosphere was great - you're at the ocean, what's not to like? Menu could have been a bit larger. Just a few more options on the lunch menu (heard the table next to us asking about grits - we, too, would have LOVED some, but they are only served for dinner). Husband had the seared tuna, which we were told was the main item people come for. His plate was nearly licked clean. Didn't look like a huge portion though - didn't come with fries. Maybe he had slaw, but that and the beans were in TINY little cups. They looked comparable to my 1/4 cup measuring cups. Son #1 had fried shrimp. He said it was ok. He didn't eat his slaw (vinegar type). Son #2 had a burger. Looked pretty charred to me, but he said it was "ok". Chatty group, huh? He also left his slaw. I had the grouper fingers - YUM! Home run on those. The fries, eh. I kinda figured I was in trouble with the fries when I asked the young server what type they were and she was stumped. I asked "steak/home? Skinny?" And, she said "oh, just regular. They're good, I eat them". They must be freezer fries. Our waitress wasn't filled with knowledge, but was very cheerful and constantly filling our drinks and checking in with us. The food was s-l-o-w coming, but everything she did - including helping us settle the bill - was quick! Overall good experience. Hubby finished my grouper fingers, and loved them too. We might have to get some on the way back! Ok, so I can't just hit the highlights. Sorry. P. S. I just happen to read this to son #2, who I think was embarrassed about his portrayal in this review (hey, the truth can sometimes be embarrassing), and he yelled "that's not true!! It was good." So, there ya go, straight from chatty son #2 himself. It was good.

My husband and I LOVE this place!!!!! We always try to get there just before 11 (when they open) so we get a table on the deck overlooking the river. Their oyster cocktail ($8) contains a generous helping of just shucked oysters, fresh lemon and house-made cocktail sauce. So delicious and none of the trouble of digging them out of the shell. Their shrimp cocktail is also fabulous ($9); big, jumbo shrimp, cooked perfectly and served with lemon and cocktail sauce. Calamari is also outstanding (lightly battered rings done just right - not chewy) - I think it's $9 and plenty for two. A side salad is only $4 and very fresh. Restrooms are clean and stocked. Very friendly, nice people. Very highly recommend!!!! Say hi to Sassy the 25 year old parrot; and, if you sit by the railing outside, you just might see the young alligator, lounging in the river, hoping for a handout. If you're on a strict budget, they always have a special every Sunday for about $12 that includes all your sides. But, we come for the seafood.

Good food, wife loved she crab soup, would recommend grouper bites, calamari was a bit chewy though, tuna tar tar good as well

Absolutely divine! The decor is waterfront shabby. We visit every time we are close to Georgetown. If you love seafood you will love The Big Tuna. My favorite dishes are the tuna tar tar, she crab soup and crab cakes. The grouper fingers and shrimp cocktail are delicious as well. After a delightful meal you can sit on the waterfront deck and enjoy some cold beer or go shopping in historic Georgetown. Highly recommend The Big Tuna.

This place was really busy due to the festival in town. Even with that we were able to get seated quickly and with a very friendly waiter. Service was relaxed but the food was tremendous. Definitely recommend the Tuna Tartare appetizer. If you want a laid back pace with great food this is the place to stop.

Great Grouper. Much better than the average. Fish sandwich and Grouper Fingers both excellent.

We came here for lunch. The service was great and fast!! We just stopped for a snack and we had fried calamari, she crap soup, and a shrimp cocktail. All were great! The atmosphere is great too!

Great grouper sandwiches and shrimp and grits. Good beer selection and friendly service. Feels like Key West with the Jimmy Buffet music and the beautiful macaw at the entrance. Comfortable atmosphere if you are just coming off the beach. For once I wasn't frozen. Thank you!

This place has a great atmosphere with a good selection of well-priced beers. The service was great! The food was good but nothing to rave about. A perfect spot for lunch out on the deck or to just sit back and enjoy some beers.

We drove down from murrells inlet, a place known for seafood, to find what I would consider even better fried seafood. I had the shrimp and scallops fried. The batter was light. I think it was just a quick roll in flour and seasonings, unlike the crispy thick batter you find at most places around here. It let the flavor of the seafood really shine through. I also ordered the crab salad which I thought was a little mayonnaisy. Maybe they were trying to stretch the portion? Unfortunate because the flavor of crab did not come through much. I would also suggest they put silverware on the table like they do the paper towel roll, also extra tarter sauce and cocktail sauce. We had to keep calling back the waiter which took awhile. You can't beat the food and view at this place. Plan on hanging out and drinking and socializing on the deck!

Price value relationship ranks at less then mediocre. While we asked for the Grouper to be grilled rather than fried, it was over cooked and dry. The black beans and rice came in what appeared to be in 1/3 cup plastic container. The cole slaw, which was very good, was served in 1/4 cup plastic container with an equal amounts of ketchup and tarter sauce ?!! We ordered the fried okra which was very good, along with being a decent quantity to share for a party of three. The atmosphere on the dock was authentic and enjoyable. We are doubtful that we will return.

I give it a 4 star mainly for it's atmosphere. It was very rugged with southern charm. The food was good but not anything to rave about. I had the She Crab Soup and Calamari. The Calamari was average and the soup was Really Good once I had them reheat it. This was the same with the Gumbo my husband had, Luke warm at its best. I would go back for the chill atmosphere but would hope they would read this and make sure hot food is hot and cold food is cold!

Take note, this place is actually in the 800 block of Front street. It's a shabby, dockside fish shack. Cheap beer. Cheap food. Tasted quite good for what it was, which is two star grub. Bottom line: If you're nursing a hangover this is the place.

Did not have any food, but very cool place to visit. Prices looked good, good selection of beer. They are expanding to the storefront next door. Bucky is a great host and owner.

The Big Tuna is a MUST if you visit Georgetown!! Has a laid-back feel with very friendly staff, great view of the water and fishing boats that come in at the end of the day. Menu is mostly seafood, affordably priced and the crab dip is delicious! Parking is free on Front St. and adjacent blocks. Owners Bucky and Angie were very friendly and went out of their way for our family celebration. The carved wood sturgeon sculpture in the new addition (opening any day now) is amazing. Welcoming vibe. Love this place!

Go ahead stop in if you are wanting to hang out back and get some sun. However, don't order the shrimp po boy it only had 6 shrimp on it!!! I was disappointed that a place right next to the water would only have 6 shrimp on a po boy. The staff was friendly offering the use of a koozey for our beers.

Don't go to the Tuna if you don't love seafood! But, if you do love seafood this is the place for you! The inside dining can get a bit smokey. The best spot to eat is out on the open deck. Great beer selection! Loved the fish sandwich and the calamari!

I wish there were two categories for restaurants. One for food and one for service. This place would get slightly higher than 3 stars for food, and zero for waitress. First on the food. I ordered she crab soup and it was a 10. Nice chunks of crab, although a small portion size. My friend ordered a grouper sandwich and it was full of yummy grouper. The "side" of coleslaw was good, but a joke to call it an actual side it was so small. So all and all, food good and fair prices. THEN there was our horrific uninterested waitress. She acted like she wanted to be anywhere but working in the service industry. As well she should be. After asking for something, which she never came back with, a VERY nice male server took up her pathetic slack. Not once did she come back and ask us if we wanted something, fill our waters, or even give us our check. I hope the owners of this place read this and figure out who was working last Thursday, and get rid of her. I would never come back if I saw she was my waitress.

We found this place while driving down the coast to Charleston and decided to give it a try. Glad we did, because it was awesome. We sat out back near the boat landings, where the owners have built this little rustic shack of an eating area. We got a grouper sandwich and an order of seared tuna. Everything was super fresh, clean, and tasty. Afterward, we walked down the dock and through the downtown area. Great visit.

This place is awesome and service incredible! The she crab soup is to die for and fried flounder is amazing! Yum! We are from the north and this is the best sea food we have had - seafood right off the boat, enjoy!
