Well damn! Now I see what all the huzzah is about. So a girl got a sundae! The birthday cake ice cream has chunks of real cake in it, sold. Top that off with melted peanut butter, hot fudge, whipped cream, and some rainbow sprinkles and you've got yourself a happy girl. Mister has the strawberry shortcake sundae, pound cake, strawberries and whipped cream. Both of us had to take half the thing home, thankfully they have lovely little container tops as I'm guessing this happens to people often. They have about 30 flavors and you can buy it by the half pint all the way up to the gallon. Other fried food is available as well. Both indoor and outdoor seating plus a drive thru option. Oh god a girl loves ice cream and she is happy!

The food is great, but the service we received was terrible. The girl working the front desk was extremely snarky and gave very little attention to us as we ordered. Our order was mostly correct, but the receipt we received was completely off. The food came in a timely manner and tasted great, but the staff seemed to spend much of their time goofing off rather than doing their job. I'd like to go back during the day and see if the experience is any different, but if the next time is anything like the last I don't think I'll be going again. I also want to try their ice cream because apparently it's on point.

One of my Charleston favorites. I visit every time I'm in town for a scoop (which is really two scoops) of moose tracks on a sugar cone. All of the ice cream is homemade and perfect everything. I would be comfortable saying they have the best ice cream in Charleston.

The portions are huge and it is well worth the price! I ordered a peanut butter sundae and it was everything I had hoped for! If you ever have bad service or don't get a receipt be sure to contact "Rod"....his number is plastered all around the place.

What can you say about a store that's been around forever! I started eating at ye old fashion when it was at South Windermere. Really like the sandwiches and of course their fries extra crispy! Sometimes when your day has been too long you need to stop in for an ice cream cone. It will make the day better. The reason for only 4 stars is I always think the place could use a coat of paint.

This place gets 5 stars from me because it really is an old fashioned ice cream cafe and it's been here forever and they have some pretty amazing and amazingly bad for you menu items like their big crazy bacon BLT and yes I can be a little slow here but that's just because it's busy because people like it

My husband used to come here as a kid, so it was definitely planned as one of our stops during our Charleston/Spoleto vacation. I wasn't feeling very hungry, so I got a bowl of she crab soup, but it was so good, I ended up eating as much as I could! My husband got a chili dog and fries and felt like a kid again. We got some salted caramel ice cream, too, and enjoyed every bite we could stuff in ourselves. Great casual dive with good food. I'm coming back for that she crab soup!

Exactly what I wanted at the time and exactly what it advertised - ice cream and fried, greasy food - it's definitely Ole Fashioned, if not out-of-date (for some of the real-food items) This place is definitely a throwback to another time. It's a greasy-spoon diner/ice cream parlor that is reminiscent of something on the [New] Jersey Shore back in the 50s/60s. The "real" food menu reflects this perfectly; it's a little out-of-date. Lots of white bread sandwiches and hot dogs/chili dog - but if that's what you want, it hits the spot! The ice cream selection is good... over 20 flavors in the large bins under the glass case, but no soft serve :( - I only bring up the soft serve because we really wanted soft serve! Milkshakes are yummy! They use real ingredients - ice cream and milk - not like the emulsified pork/beef fat shakes at the major fast food chains. The staff is friendly, even though they get slammed and are super busy a lot! The decor is very bright and has well worn tables and booths - a little medical waiting room feeling to it. Although very close to Earthfare, they are worlds apart! You're not coming to Ye Ole Fashioned for health food!

Stopped in for a snack and bathroom break on our road trip from Savannah to Charleston. It's right off of the highway and easy to get to, though the parking lot is quite small. The bathroom is small- just one stall, and the lights do not work, so I wouldn't suggest this as a rest stop. As for the ice cream, they have lots of flavor choices. You can get waffle, sugar cone, or a cup. The people working here are nice and the servings are generous.

If you're looking for just good ice cream, by all means, go. If you have any expectations of customer service at all, go somewhere else. We ordered burgers and had ice cream, and the service was aloof and downright snarky. We planned to come back a few times, but we will not return because of how poorly we were treated.

  • Amanda H.

I would definitely not ever order food here again. It's just not good. The ice cream, however, was spot on! I was a little disappointed with the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the parking lot was sort of rough, but the ice cream is totally worth it. I hear they have a killer banana split, but I have yet to try it. Five stars for the ice cream, one star for everything else.

I give this place for stars because it's prices and customer service are very hard to beat! It's also in a great location right near downtown and at the turn point you take to head towards folly or enter into West Ashley. As far as the quality of the food goes, it's mediocre. You can imagine it taste like something you made it home, good, fresh, but not too exciting, unless your culinary artist of course! The ice cream is where it's at though! It's some of the better tasting that I've had in town for the price and they give you so much of it! Beware of getting more than you can handle and start with a share. Overall it's a good place to stop on your way and get a quick bite to eat or share some ice cream with a friend.

Very fun place! Super nice employees that are eager to serve. Every ice cream and dessert you could want and great fast food! The burgers came with fresh veggies and the beer battered onion rings were perfect!

5 star ice cream for sure!!! The birthday cake ice cream is amazing. The pralines and cream was great too. It's definite not fancy but staff are really nice and helpful!

I agree with one of the reviewers that the parking lot is a bit rough and there are only about 5 spaces. But other than that the ice cream is awesome, you get HUGE portions when you order. The food is great too. I order the egg salad sandwich or the fried egg sandwich and they get it perfect every time. I have gone in a few times the last few weeks and must say that one of their employees is awesome. Brian is very funny, patient with my children when they are ordering and he makes sure our food is exactly what we wanted. He makes me want to come because he makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

Fun casual place to go especially when you want ice cream; drive thru takes awhile so don't come if you are in a hurry.

My mother in law goes here every other day Consistent great service and food! You must get the egg salad which is 5lbs of eggs.

I have been here a few times and each time I go, I vow not to go back again. The ice cream is very good, but other than that I wouldn't recommend it. You actually watch them prepare some of your food from the bar area. I watched as they took previously cooked burgers from a crock pot filled with water. I assume that was to keep them warm and moist. I understand that it's possible other restaurants do this, but do I really need to see it? The waitress then put cheese on it and melted It all in the microwave. Needless to say... I was really glad that was not my food and I was waiting on ice cream haha. The staff were nice, but the restaurant was not very clean. All in all not the best experience. I have been to some of there other locations and had a great experience so I was really disapointed.

I didn't care for Ye Ole Fashioned. All of the foods were very greasy, and there was next to nothing I could eat (I'm a vegetarian). Even the vegetable soup had beef in it. My husband got a salad covered in meat (huge salad though) and sweet potato fries. I ate a few and thought they were mediocre, I actually think the frozen ones in bags at the grocery store taste better, and you can get a bag at the store cheaper than an order here. For the quality of food and ice cream (it is just blue bell, guys), it's way overpriced. It's a fun place to hang out and open late, but if you want good ice cream or even good greasy food, I would go somewhere else.

  • Rachel G.

I go here pretty frequently, and everytime im disappointed with what I get. I ordered the 9 dollar chicken tender basket only to discover they don't even use real chicken breast, it's pressed patties. I spent 17.00 only pressed chicken tenders and a small ice cream. The ice cream was good, but I was surprised by the nuts, which were not described in the name (Caramel Turtle Tracks), and I have teeth problems so I can't eat nuts. I had to pick them out individually.

From california and was craving a yummy chocolatr shake. Best chocolate shake ive ever had! Order triple chocolate flavor, it sets the bar for chocolate shakes!

They serve Blue Bell ice cream here. It seemed either freezer burnt or it just tastes a little icey. I was not impressed with this place. It seemed to be a little dirty and run down which gives it quaint charm when everything tastes great. Here it just made you regret coming in. The server seemed cold initially maybe it is because everything is freezer burnt. He warmed up when I engaged him in a conversation of interest. The food: I ordered the banana pudding ice cream for $3.69 ish. It had good flavor when I ignored the freezer burnt bites. My wifer ordered the vanilla malt milkshake for around $4. She drank less than half due to it having chunks of malt in it. I thought it just had a bad after taste. All in all this place is a no to me. Go downtown and visit Kihlwins or Belgian Gelatto.

Cool place to grab some ice cream. They have a large variety of flavors. I really wanted to try the banana split sundae but it was HUGE, so just decided to get 1 scoop of Rocky Road. It was pretty good. Will have to try the banana split sundae next time I visit Charleston.

Why am I sitting inside with flies on the walls and windows? It's nasty at least the one on Savannah Highway. Root beer is good but the food is greasy. It's not a place I would go for ice cream but kids like it here. The banana splits are huge. More of a kid place.

I was in Charleston recently visiting family and went all day with out eating. Being I'm not from the area I didn't want to travel far and came across Ye Ole fashion. The service is slow as stated by other yelpers but when I took a bit of my ruben sandwich with the slaw. I was blown away this was a total shock this was on the money. I never would've thought stepping outside the box would taste so good. A must try if you stop at Ye Ole fashion.

If you were to ask me if I've paid over $6 for a chocolate malt shake, I would answer that you bet your sweet buns I have. Over and over. Pricey for what it is: Yes. Delicious greasy food: Yes. Ice Cream: Hell YES.

Expectations should not be high for getting a burger at an ice cream shop. We each tried a variety of burgers and I felt I was back in 7th grade eating in the cafeteria. I'm a grilled burger girl I found out. I have heard excellent things about the BLT and other sandwiches. I'll give those a try and let you know. I can say the service was nice and the flavors of ice cream were out of this world! Everyone I saw was eating the cold stuff. That should have been my clue... I will try other goodies there and hopefully I'll never go back to 7th grade again. I didn't care for middle school much......

I can't let the good reviews for this place go on any longer. The food here is the absolute worst anywhere in Charleston. We purchased about $1.40's worth of frozen goods, for $17. The processed food assortment wasn't even properly cooked. The once frozen crinkle fries were about as good as they get, I will give them that . The frozen Cheeseburger (hamburger recall material) was over cooked and dry. Chili dogs were salty, and made with 100% processed foods, canned chili, pre diced onions, American cheese slices from plastic wrappers. This place took a week off our lives. I saw a lot of uneaten food on tables. JUNK, is what I'm trying to say. I challenge anyone to find anything fresh here. After lunch like that, I will not bother ordering ice cream. We now refer to the place as Ye Ole Fashioned BeAtDoWn!

This is a very good spot to grab a burger and fries, maybe some chicken fingers in Charleston, west of the river. It is close to a couple hotels and is quicker and cheaper option than almost every place to eat. And it tastes pretty good, most importantly. The staff was OK, some of the young employees were distracted, but that is be expected at your local burger/ice cream joint. Overall, certainly worth a visit for a casual bite to eat.

The blt was good. The strawberry shake was good. The fries were the best part - nice and crispy.

OMNOMNOMNOM. Somehow, on the first driveby, it didn't look inspiring. Changed my mind after having an awesome banana split, and we've been back frequently since. Some of the best ice cream I've ever had, and that's including the ice cream I used to make myself. Their burgers are kind of unusual, with a sort of sausage texture, but tasty tasty tasty, nicely toasted bun and good stuff in addition to the meat. Reuben's not as good as the Rachel, the BLT lives up to the hype, as much as any not-made-at-home version can be. Love love love the chocolate, strawberry, and coconut flavors. Banana pudding lives up to the standard set by everything else, and all the chocolate flavors are fantastic. It's one of the things that makes being in Charleston worthwhile. Yes, the name is silly. You can't eat the name, though.

The ice cream is what made them famous for 40 years! Very rich and creamy. Banana split is HUGE and worth it. My favorite is French vanilla, cookie dough, and double chocolate with chips! BLT has 10 pieces of bacon!

I've had the burgers, grilled cheese, hot dogs and most of the concoctions that they make with ice cream (including the banana split). In my opinion, this is not a place to go for if you want decent tasting food. The burgers leave you asking why you spent your money (granted, they are better than a McD's), I still expect better from a place that claims they have such great food. The parking is not great and the location is on an awkwardly shaped lot. However, even though I now rarely order food from here after several disappointing experiences, I must say that the banana splits, albeit a little overpriced (about $7), are excellent and HUGE (unless you happen to get 1 or 2 specific employees that always seriously skimp on the portion considering what is being paid). There is generally a significant wait for your order if you go through the car line (drive-thru) because they make the food fresh-to order. You do have the option of calling your order in to speed up the process.

Good service, food came out quickly. I ordered a grilled cheese and fries and was it was your basic grilled cheese, although had three slices of bread. Lots of bread. My mom ordered chicken gumbo soup and it came out with pieces of cut up hot dog in the soup. Maybe that's how they make it in the south?? Overall, decent meal.

I got a flat tire and came here while it was being repaired and had the worst grilled cheese and fries ever. How is it hard to make a good grilled cheese? Came back later to give them a second chance and tried the soup. It was super bland. The customer service was lack-luster on both occasions (I'm not a fan of being served my food with a "Here."). As an ice cream fanatic, I say go to Cold Stone. It's like they aren't trying anymore now that they have a reputation and several more chains.

Despite being of the opinion that the name is kind of ridiculous, this place serves fast food that's actually really good. The burgers are huge and delicious. The onion rings are perfectly fried, and the ice cream comes in more flavors than you know what to do with. One caveat... if you go during lunchtime, expect a long line and limited seating.
