**Overall Rank 4.9/5** This place exceeded our expectations. Unique "tacos" with awesome flavors. I say "tacos" because they are more like sandwiches on corn tortillas than a traditional taco. Nonetheless, they are amazing. **Food - Portion size 5/5** Depending on the person, 2-3 tacos is perfect size. Plus, each one comes with double corn tortillas so you can spread out the taco to a more manageable bite size. **Food - Taste 5/5** Had the chips/queso and 4 tacos, rated in this order: 1. Lamb Gyro 2. Thai Peanut Chicken 3. BBQ Carnitas 4. Steak and Cheese **Location 5/5** Located of Folly Rd, tucked behind a tattoo shop. Would be hard to find, but there is a 30-ft white duck painted on the building. Now a MUST GO on the way to Folly beach. **Parking 5/5** Parking is adequate. Shared lot with other businesses. **Cleanliness 5/5** Place is SUPER clean, with probably some of the nicest public restrooms I've ever seen. **Originality 5/5** Very original combinations of ingredients on tacos. Very different and delicious. **Service 5/5** The staff is very nice, fast, and the owner even came out and chatted with us. **Price 4/5** The price seems a little steep paying on a taco-by-taco basis, but still comes out to about the same as any sandwich shop total price. Would be nice if they had some sort of combo meal or pick 3 option. **Wait 5/5** About a 5 minute wait. Nothing to complain about! **Atmosphere 5/5** Very cool setup. Almost looks like it used to be a bar or club. The tables are very cool....Old wooden doors and windows painted white with plexiglass bolted on top.

Holy Mother of God. As a True Foodsman and Taco Aficionado, I've had my fair share of this Mexican delicacy. However, the tacos at White Duck literally blew my brain in two. The Bangkok Shrimp taco was so good that if they actually brought some to Thailand, it would completely destroy the underground sex-trade. Why would anybody go to an illegal brothel when they could eat a Bangkok Shrimp taco from White Duck? 5 stars goes out to White Duck tacos, located in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina.

These tacos are phenomenal. I had the lamb gyro and Thai peanut chicken and was not disappointed whatsoever. The Thai peanut did have a little heat to it, but nothing overwhelming. The lamb was so delicious. The tzatziki sauce was great in combination with the feta cheese. My boyfriend had the jerk chicken and said it was very very hot so be prepared for that! We also had the chips and queso, easily the best I've ever had. Finally, super affordable! All this for under $20. Would highly recommend.

Not a place one would venture to as a tourist, I suspect, but since it came highly recommended on Yelp, and we had exhausted our entire list by the last day of the trip, tacos just sounded awesome. And I am so glad we did because this was one of the best meals of our entire trip. Which is funny considering that it has basically nothing that screams local cuisine about it. Nonetheless, it's worth a visit. When you do come, get the grilled fish taco. It'll be a little pricey for a taco at about $3.50, but it'll be the best thing you put in your mouth that day. Unless you somehow get a million dollars in your mouth or something. Get one of these because it's moist, perfect grilled fish, seasoned like it would be across the border. Nothing else is needed. Then, once you've tried one of these, you can feel free to explore the menu. The lamb is good, though not as amazing as the fish.

White Duck Taco has a great variety of tacos, most run for ~$3.50 but you also have some that are more expense like the Duck Mole. I finally made my way over to James Island to try this taco spot off Folly road. We started with the Salsa trio and chips. I liked each salsa but the chips were lacking. The chips were salted nicely but they were cold and almost at the stale stage. I tried the Korean beef bulgoi and the steak and cheese. The beef bulgogi had a great taste and the kimchi on top had a great flavor. The kimchi was not fermented to the point of being sour but added a great crunch and umami flavor. The steak and cheese had some nice tender steak and was packed with flavor. The tacos were packed with ingredients, two tacos left me satisfied. I would drive back to sample some other tasty tacos.

I really really really enjoy my lunch here today. Big building with plenty of places to sit. I got the Korean beef taco which was just okay but luckily my boyfriend traded it for his steak and cheese taco which was great. I also got the fish taco which was full of flavor and they are pretty smart by wrapping the fillings with two flour tortillas I hate when they just fall apart. We also enjoyed the salsa trio with homemade chips. Seasoned to perfection. And you can't beat the prices. Can't wait to go back to try more tacos!

Took a special trip here after reading yelp reviews. We were a little disappointed. If I lived in the area, I dont think i would be coming back. While I can appreciate the creative twists on the taco- most of them were not very good. Chips and salsa trio were nothing special. Honestly the chips at Taco Bell have more flavor. We tried six different tacos, and really only enjoyed the steak and cheese. Got the watermelon and mint as well, and it just tasted like watermelon to me. They need some solid knock out of the park classic chicken and steak tacos, and then expand on that. My husband grew up in CA where the mexican is authentic and top notch, and this just didn't do it for us.

  • Vy D.

Went to this cute, hole in the wall taco shop with a friend and shared 4 tacos and the queso between us. The queso was good, however the homemade chips were disappointingly not hot or warm and overly salty. They have a huge variety of tacos which is great! Between the two of us, we had the Bangkok Shrimp, Korean Beef Bulgogi, Steak and Cheese, and the Fish taco. I thought the fish was kind of boring, but my friend really liked it. I'll be back to sample more!

  • Lauton S.

Tacos are original, and they are a good size. they give you two tortillas with each one and there is enough filling to make two tacos. It seems that most of them have some sort of mayo based sauce on them, kinda gross. Two dollar tecate all the time saves the day though.

Ate at this location for the second time today. Always great people working here! I really think this place has the best fish tacos in Charleston! My boyfriend loves that they have soccer on when we go. Definitely going back soon :)

Great tacos. Loved the buffalo chicken taco. Plenty of gluten free options for my husband.

"What else floats in water? A duck!" I could not stop thinking about this movie quote the entire time I was there. If you don't know what movie that is from, we most likely cannot be friends. You are missing out on a hilarious movie and a great friend. I'm pretty awesome. MOVING ON... This place was pretty cool! I loved the building. It is hidden behind some other stores on Folly Road. Just look for the big painted duck! It has a great selection of tacos to choose from. I had the fish taco and the steak taco. Both were excellent! The queso was also very good. I had a bite of the jerk chicken taco and I was not a fan. Tasted like dessert. I don't know how else to describe it. And I HATE dessert! I hope the menu changes daily because when I went there was NO DUCK on the menu?! I was a bit upset and after about a good 3 minute cry session, I composed myself and ordered. The tacos were delicious and very well priced. I'll definitely be going back.

I had a great experience here. We tried a bunch of tacos and they were all pretty delicious. I thought the prices were pretty on-par with the area (Taco Boy and the like), and the flavor combos were just as (if not more so) inventive. Also, their margaritas are delicious and dangerous and are probably the reason I can't be more detailed about which tacos we ordered and how they were. Also I really love the space! It took me a few tries to realize where it was (I definitely thought it was a crossfit gym... isn't everything a crossfit gym nowadays?), but the atmosphere is really fun and cool. I can't wait to go back!

I love this place - my favorite taco spot in Charleston. We are happy to make the drive from Mount Pleasant for the yummy salsa trio. I also love the Thai peanut chicken taco and the BBQ taco. Hubby loves the fish tacos. Reasonably priced and a great spot for a casual lunch or dinner. Not as hard to find as some said - it's just a little bit set back from the road as all. Look for the big white duck! :-)

So I had a day off from work, was out for a ride on the motorcycle and remembered that I wanted to check this place out. It sits back from the road (on the left if you're headed for the beach), sorta tucked behind the tat shop - if you reach the pawn shop, you just passed it! Awesome menu. Very creative and unlike any other taco joints around. I ordered a white beer and 3 tacos (Fish, Shrimp and Duck); came out to about $21... A bit steep, but plenty of food and it was fresh, high quality chow, so I really can't gripe too much. The tacos were very, very tasty! A lot of different flavors running around in my mouth between the sauces, cucumbers, chili powder, sesame, cabbage, etc. Like 4th of July good! Allagash White is always yummy, so there's that. :) Of the three, I honestly couldn't decide which was my favorite. Guess I'll go back and try 3 others and see what's what. The desserts looked yummy, too... Awesome music selection playing, as well (Muse, Radiohead, QOTSA, etc.) Was it satellite or someone's playlist? Dunno, but it was nice. Check it out - you'll be glad - unless you're cranky, pretentious or just stubborn.

Low new places on the island. I tried the fish taco ad the jerk chicken taco. We also had the queso and chips. Ryan k. Had the steak taco. We both agree that the fish taco is delish and the steak taco was pretty good but neither of us could get on board with the jerk chicken taco. I normally love anything with pineapple but this taco had a very different flavor, almost like cinnamon or something sweet. The prices were reasonable so I will go back and try some more tacos!

Tucked a little away from the main road is a hidden gem. Three tacos hit the spot for my afternoon snack. It's a fast casual setting. I rolled in at an odd time for a meal. 3:30pm or so. The girl up front recommended the duck and pork belly. I also ordered the Bangkok shrimp after reading another review. You can't go wrong with any of these and I feel this is a place where any item on the menu would be excellent. Highly recommend for you taco lovers.

    (5)
  • Adam J.

Oh my this place is AWESOME! My wife and I were struggling with what to order because everything looked so good. Some locals overheard us and said their fish tacos were the best on the island. They were dead on. We will definitely go back several times on this vacation.

Ate here today for lunch and it blew my mind! I'm embarrassed to say that I've lived on James Island for so long and never tried it. Man have I been missing out! There are several other Taco Shops on James Island, Folly, and Downtown, but this place was better by far. Not even close. I'll be back, hopefully this week!

  • Tommy T.

This place is outstanding. I had 3 tacos: the lump crab, the Korean BBQ Bulgogi, and the Crisp Pork Belly with Pickled Watermelon Rind. First off, the portions are HUGE. Two tacos is more than enough for a grown man. I crushed the crab and BBQ tacos, both of which were excellent. Then, oh then, I had the Crisp Pork Belly taco. They take it to 11 with this taco. I ate at some very nice restaurants this weekend, but that Crisp Pork Belly Taco was the best dish I had. I would recommend this place over and over and over again. It is affordable and delicious. Oh, and did I mention the Crispy Pork Belly Taco?

  • Dariel S.

White Duck is a really nice place to have some lunch it has a bunch of uniquely flavored tacos that are not your typical idea of what would be in a taco. I think my favorite was the steak and cheese. My least favorite was the Jerk, I thought it had good potential but I would have done it a little different.

  • brittany r.

The fish taco is one of the best I've had. Wish they hadn't been out of the Pork Belly taco. Inside is really cool with unique art pieces and a lot of space. Wasn't too crowded at all on a Sunday at 5pm. Will definitely be back when I go back to Charleston!

After a second visit to White Duck Taco yesterday, I had to share a review. My advice: stop by this giant duck-emblazoned warehouse if you're already on JI and want a full meal for $10 or less. The tacos at WDTS are quite tasty, and filling, for their price. This is the constant frustration for me at other taco spots - that I'm spending a lot on a little. Not so at White Duck. Each taco is overstuffed to the point that it comes with two shells (soft corn), so that you can assemble a larger rollup or create a whole other taco from the first one's spillage. There are about a dozen or so taco options, several of which are vegetarian, with most priced at $3.50 each, (though there are typically two or three specialty tacos like the lump crab that cost upwards of $5.50 or $6.00). The housemade chips and trio of salsas were also cheap and delicious and part of a larger serving than you'd expect. The BF & my standout favorites: Bangkok Shrimp, Banh Mi Tofu, BBQ and the Mahi Mahi. The Gist: cheaper, wider variety of tacos than Taco Boy, just over the bridge from downtown CHS on JI. Two tacos is enough for a meal (for most). Get the chips & salsa trio to start and sit outside!

  • Robyn G.

Outstanding! We had the trio of salsas which were very fresh and delicious, Bangkok Shrimp, Fish And Pork Belly and all were outstanding. Also had peach and watermelon sangrias...very good. Will return!

  • Lydia O.

Good reasonably priced tacos. I can't wait to go back when I'm not on the clock and try the watermelon sangria. If its as good as their taco flavor combinations - it will be great!

I'll preface by saying I've been to the Asheville location. The food tasted better in the atmosphere, sitting outside with cool breeze chowing down on a feast. Here in Charleston it's too hot to sit outside and the dining room is dim. Even though it is brand new, it already seems worn down. I liked it better and what is a good memory from a trip is now a possible repeat taco meal at home. I had the Thai chicken and one of the shrimp tacos. The Thai peanut chicken was great, the other taco not memorable. Tacos come on 2 corn tortillas and are ordered individually. The Mexican pot de creme was just the same as in Asheville. Cinnamon, crunch and whipped cream with smooth chocolate. Worth it. The peach sangria came in a mason jar, not very strong or very peach. Overall, $23 for one person for two tacos, dessert and cocktail. I doubt I'll be making the trip down to Folly Rd just for a White Duck.

This place is amazing! Large portions for an excellent price. The black bean tacos were delicious, and I loved the blueberry white peach sangria. This is the perfect stop for a quick, filling meal!

  • Maggie M.

This was everything I had dreamed of and MORE. I missed visiting the location in Asheville, so when I saw they had one in Folly Beach I knew I had to make the trip. To start, definitely get the salsa trio. It comes with a red salsa, green salsa, and a chipotle queso-ish dip, all of which are amazing. In terms of tacos, you really only need 2/person, but my companion and I each got three because we didn't realize how generous the portions were (not a bad problem). I can vouch for the deliciousness of: Bangkok shrimp (favorite by far), Thai peanut chicken, buffalo chicken, and beef bulgogi. They all come with two corn tortillas and lots of filling, so for three tacos you can actually get an equivalent of six, if you divide them up. I wish I lived closer than 4 hours from both of the White Duck locations so I could go more than once or twice a year because it might genuinely be the best taco place I've ever eaten at (trumping the famous Torchy's Tacos in Austin, TX). Here's to dreaming of more Bangkok shrimp tacos...

  • B B.

Delicious. We had the shrimp taco, fish taco, jerk chicken taco and duck taco. They all were unique and tasted great. Its a very casual place with nothing much to the decor. You go there for the food and drinks. They had watermelon flavored alcoholic drink and peach mojitos.

    (5)
  • A B.

Bangkok taco was very good and my favorite. Portion is on par for most of their competition. Thai peanut chicken was pretty good, too. I'd recommend if you're in the area.

In short, the fish taco at the White Duck Taco Shop is the best fish taco I have had in Charleston, if not ever. When ordering, I asked the cashier what type of fish it was. She hesitantly replied "tilapia"... obviously the boring reputation of this fish has dissuaded customers in the past. But I'll be damned if that wasn't the most flavorful, perfectly cooked, perfectly portioned tilapia ever. It came out hot and juxtaposed the fresh/textured cold vegetable components of the taco in a no frills purist kind of way. If you want frills or more taco "pizzazz" their menu has you covered, but I honestly didn't try anything else. The service was excellent, but to be fair here, there was nobody else there at 12:30 PM on a Sunday. The only thing I thought was weird, albeit inconsequential, about White Duck Taco Shop was how big and warehousy and somewhat sterile it was for a taco shop. The indoors atmosphere didn't really seem to match the small and laid back menu. Really it didn't matter, and we were able to sit outside on some picnic tables with our pup which gave them bonus points anyway. This place totally surprised me, and I can't wait to down some more fish tacos after a morning surfing on Folly. Maybe I'll try something else next time but I doubt it.

  • Jayde C.

Really great atmosphere! I had the chicken quesadillas, they were good but way too much cheese and not enough chicken!

    (4)
  • Michael T.

Good solid place. Not as great as the Asheville, NC location, but would try again. Small portions for the price. The special crab taco and duck mole were good. Shrimp Bangkok was fried in bad oil or something, or maybe too fried, not as tasty. Will be back!

  • Kelly B.

These tacos will rock your world! Very distinct flavors in every taco. Each taco is packed with ingredients and flavor. Very quick, attentive, and friendly staff. I will be frequenting this place. The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is because it's not GF-friendly. Soy sauce is their main ingredient, even in the chips, which is a great way to isolate an entire population from consuming the majority of the menu.

    (4)
  • Dimple G.

All I can say is wow! Great prices and even better food, we got the gyro taco and omg it was delicious! Wonderful atmosphere with softer music playing. Even though it is hiden behide a tattoo shop. This little place is a diamond in the rough for sure! All the people we spoke to while ordering and eating was very friendly. My husband and I both agree this will ne a resturant we come back to when we are back here!

  • Melissa R.

This place is awesome! We got the $4 happy hour Sangria, salsa trio, the fish taco, and the chipotle chicken. It was all yummy! It tasted fresh and homemade! The decor and atmosphere is great. It sorta gives off the Asheville vibe, which happens to be one of my favorite cities. I believe they have a location there? You order at the counter and the staff was really friendly. Make sure you go between 4-7 pm M-F for the happy hour!!!! You can't beat $4 Sangrias!! They also have other drinks for cheap during happy hour. I got the two tacos and had to take the other home! I was worried that two tacos wouldn't fill me up, but between the Sangria and salsa trio, i was full! I recommend this little neat place! try it out! P.S. the place is so much better than Taco Boy!!! I feel that I got my money worth here, where Taco Boy is overpriced in my opinion. They also don't have happy hour drinks like White Duck has! Come here instead.

The lamb, buffalo chicken, and Bulgolgi tacos are all must haves here. Try an Alagash White with your tacos. I think you'll find that they pair nicely. This place is outstanding, and just what James Island needed. Be sure to have your picture taken alongside the painting of a family of hungry Wookies. It's kind of a tradition.

  • Caitlin M.

Loved the gyro taco, the salsa app and the watermelon sangria!! I went on the first day they opened so I was pretty impressed they really had their act together! Been back once since for takeout and it was just as good. FYI make sure that if you don't have cash, give your CC number when you place the to-go order on the phone. I arrived and there was a line out the door. The cashier said I'd have to wait in the super long line to pickup my food. Thought that was a little silly.

  • Tara B.

Love this place! Had the Thai Peanut chicken taco and Bangkok shrimp taco. Both were excellent! Queso is great too. Hubby had Mole' roasted duck taco and he loved it! Highly recommend this one and the one in Asheville. Both offer outdoor seating as well.

  • Julie Ann C.

If you want something a little different - COME HERE! I had the jerk chicken taco & steak & cheese. Excellent. The jerk chicken has pineapple and red slaw and I wished I had gotten two. Steak & cheese was very good as well but I love good jerk seasoning and this place has it. Will definitely come back next beach trip!

Had the kimchi tacos on flour. I'm 6'-3" and two filled me up! Can't wait to come back and try more of their tacos, UPDATE: The more I eat here the more I love it!!! Bangkok Shrimp is awesome. Pork belly is great!! Black beans are the best I have found in town. Just wish they made Guac!!

This was my first time stopping in at White Duck and I was very impressed by what we had. Unlike nearby Zia, White Duck's tacos are ecclectic and fusion based. Of the selection available, we tried the Bankok Shrimp taco, the Korean Beef taco, and the Chips and Queso. The Shrimp taco was amazing definitely my top pick. The white sauce and the Bankok sauce blended to make a creamy and tangy texture/flavor that contrasted nicely with the fry of the shrimp. The curried zucchini on top was awesome as well. The Korean Beef was spicy and the kimchi was flavorful and crunchy. These are nothing like your average tex-mex tacos so between Zia and White Duck, all your taco needs are covered on James Island. I look forward to trying their thai peanut chicken taco and their margaritas. All in all, it was a great first stop!

This is another classic case of the bar being set very high based on the other yelp reviews. There were high point and low points, but we'd definitely be willing to give them another chance. We can't help but compare WDT to Taco Boy, and our first impression is that WDT is missing the energy and ambiance of TB. We ordered 4 tacos - Korean BBQ, Jerk Chicken, Duck, and Fish, the salsa trio, and chocolate pudding. Korean BBQ and Fish were delicious, great pop of flavor. Jerk Chicken, definitely had flavor, but wasn't my cup of "allspice" tea, husband said that it was an authentic jerk flavor. The duck just fell flat, no flavor. Salsa trio had a great chipotle flavor that I've come to expect in salsa. And we really wanted to love the chocolate pudding, but the amaretto flavor was overpowering. We appreciated the crunch and texture, but we didn't love it. We'll come back some day to try a few more of the tacos, since the prices are so good.

My wife and I had high hopes for this place after reading a few articles in the newspaper and online. Plus we are HUGE food truck supporters (these guys used to be in a food truck). The chips and salsa were above average and clearly homemade. We each got different tacos (all 5 total were different). The only one that I sort of liked was the shrimp one. The beef bulgogi was overseasoned. The chicken jerk was the same and just too strong. I also got a barbacoa one which was decent. Bottom line, we were not wowed at all, and in a city where there are sooo many great dining options, I doubt we'll be coming back. The watermelon margarita was refreshing but not that great.

    (2)
  • John S.

Not bad but I can't believe it gets 5 star reviews. The salsa is watery with way too much smoke flavor. The tacos are small and priced too high for a single taco. Tried the steak and cheese and it was flavorless. Also tried the pork bbq and it was also very bland with an odd pumpkin taste to it. If it was cheaper, this wouldn't be a deal breaker but for the price it needs to be better.

  • Kathy S.

Loved this place! Went there to meet friends and we all very much enjoyed the dinner. We had the Bangkok shrimp, duck, lamb and Korean beef tacos. We all found the portions to be bigger than you'd think. Each taco comes with an additional corn tortilla and so we split the fillings and got two tacos from each order. The best reason to do this is to make the tacos easier to eat because all the filings we had were really good and packed a lot of flavor. I've already made plans to meet more friends there next week.

what a fun original experience. They have variations on tacos. You order a la carte and they bring it to the table. I was there in a quiet time late afternoon. Flavorful and fun.

I'm not a 5 star giver. Sorry. It's gotta be mind blowing. But! White Duck taco is new here and yes, I do know some of the people behind it. I've been extremely happy and sometimes surprised with how good everything is so far. I've tried 6 or 8 tacos so far, and I can pinpoint 4 of my favorites and two that need some work. But! All and all, I'm super happy with how much flavor everything has! Big bold flavors are what I look for, and the only reason the two other tacos don't hit the mark. Still great tacos, just not hitting the level of the other mouth popping tacos. Favorites so far: Korean beef, Shrimp, Gyro, Steak and Cheese, Carnitas, and buffalo chicken. Queso and Margarita also solid options. Prices are right on point and, again, the flavors are big 99% of the time.

  • Jen A.

Delicious tacos! Buffalo chicken was good and so was the lamb gyro tacos! Great sauces on each and the veggies were nice and fresh. My friend and I also shared the chips and queso, which was great too! I drank one strawberry cider and loved it! Great little place for James Island!

  • Fabian M.

The food was great. Service was excellent. The girl who took our order at the register was really helpful in recommending tacos. Pricing was fair for the quality of the food. Only reason I give it a four is because it might not be for everybody. You have to be open to trying very different versions of tacos.

Delish. Have eaten at the Asheville store and loved it. We live close to this one and were so excited to see it moving in. First visit I got tacos to go and was very disappointed. However, we gave it another shot and ate in. WAY MO BETTA. We even did a shrimp taco tasting day starting at Taco Boy, White Duck, Zia and Roadside Seafood. White Duck won! Mind you they are all good and Roadside had the tastiest shrimp but not best taco. Last visit we had the soup of the day, corn chowder. Dear lord, thank you for making this fabulous soup. Mmm mmm good! For best results eat in don't take out.

I love this place!! Tacos are delicious! My favorites are the lamb gyro, bangkok shrimp, and Thai peanut chicken. Thought Korean beef a bit salty but others rave about it. Awesome IPA and white beer. Wait staff and owner are super friendly and happy to talk with you and answer questions. You don't feel rushed. I can't wait to get back and try the other tacos!!!

$2 Tacate?! Whhhaaaaa?! Lol! Yeah, that's one thing cool about this place. First experienced in Ashville, NC. They moved a shop here and I'm a big fan. Minus star down for craft taco price, like taco boy, but ten times better grindz! Hidden away on Folly Rd but don't give up finding it. I dig the shrimp tacos but I think I'd eat almost anything on the menu. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Delicious and innovative tacos. The duck taco is a must try if you're near Charleston.

  • Jamie J.

This place is great! It's taco selection compares with other gourmet taco places in town (Taco Boy) but the execution is so much better. I got the Korean Kimchi Beef taco, the Steak and Cheese taco, and the Bahn Mi Tofu taco. They were all very good, but my favorite was the Steak and Cheese. I also got the Watermelon Sangria which was very refreshing and not overly sweet. The service was good too. When we placed our order at the counter the employee helping us was very nice.

Hidden destination but a good spot to relax, whether inside or out, with a yummy margarita and a group of friends. Hopefully the owner will come up with the brilliant plan of placing some citronella candles outside so you can fully enjoy the atmosphere and the food and not worry about mosquitos or flies harassing you. But all in all a great place to visit for a fun time.

This place is exactly what Folly needs!! The fish tacos were the most amazing I've ever had, ever. It was so perfectly balanced! & the potato mushroom & romanseco taco was just incredible. I usually don't like vegetarian options but this one blew me away. The service was fast, friendly & efficient, the EXACT OPPOSITE of what I've ever experienced from Zia. My new favorite place!

We tried the duck, Thia chicken peanut, Lamb, and Bangin Shrimp tacos. We also had margarita's and queso. The food was good- probably a better place for families with kids. You line up and order instead of having a server, and there's no bar. Not my favorite atmosphere- but the food is good and different for Folly Rd.

Essential stop on the way to Folly Beach: White Duck is amazing. Excellent Tacos (get the duck) without breaking the bank. Despite a big crowd, we received our food in less than 5 minutes. Very good vibe and outstanding staff. The owner himself brought us our food and engaged with every other table within ear shot. The guy takes a lot of pride in the place and it seems to carry over to the staff. This is the kind of place that James inland has needed for years. Lot's of outdoor seating too.

Wow! Great quality of food, our group had about half the menu and everything was fantastic. Same price as some other places I have gone with similar food but the flavor and portions were even better. I will most certainly return.

Went last week for lunch and was a little disappointed. Have to start off by saying that my expectations might have been too high coming in. Had friends that loved their spot in Asheville and this place has definitely been getting a lot of pub. With that being said, everything was a little too bland. The trio of salsas (two salsas, one cream), was nothing special. Wife and I shared four tacos: Thai Peanut, Steak and Cheese, Korean Beef, and Bangkok Shrimp. The overall theme was lack of flavoring. Thai Peanut was different in that you get one long chicken tender. I'm used to chunks or slices of pulled chicken with tacos. This left the chicken a little dry. The Shrimp and Steak tacos were okay, but nothing special. The best was probably the Korean Beef with tasty kimchi and avocado spread. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great. I was looking for something that would rival Zia, but did not find it. Not a great atmosphere either. Felt like I was in an upscale cafeteria. After talking with the same friends who have been to the Asheville location, they echoed my thoughts and said that it definitely wasn't as good. So maybe it will find its groove and equal it's sister restaurant later on.

This is the best place I've ever eaten! Get the Korean beef, the Bangkok shrimp, and lamb gyro. Seriously, the 3 best tacos I've ever put in my mouth, and I am from San Diego, land of the tacos. The blueberry sangria and the margarita were on point. I would recommend this to anybody dead or alive. You also have to take your picture with the wookies, it's kind of a big deal.

Ordered several different tacos: jerk, korean bbq, beef and cheese, fish. All were completely disgusting. Girlfriend and I each took a bite of the jerk and almost threw up. It was like eating pure potpourri. We took it back to the kitchen amazed that they are putting out such an item, and the manager said snidely, "Oh, that's our most popular taco...." Then begrudgingly sent out two to replace the two jerk and one korean bbq we couldn't stomach. (All three may have been good with 1/20th the amount of seasonings). The only taco that was edible was the beef and cheese, which is so basic to begin with that if it tasted bad they would have had to try. The fish taco was bland. I guess the owner believes people here prefer hipster-hype over quality- too bad this isn't Asheville. I will never go back. Zia is better, hands down, in every single way. Guess when Zia moved to Asheville these guys had to come to Charleston to save face, but Zia is dominating them in both spots with quality food and great service. Take a hint staff- don't act like you are god. The customer is your boss, you work for them. Even the manager. So get off your soap box and try to cook better and listen to customers rather than being incredibly arrogant and cocky.

Always looked forward to visiting their location in Asheville and the Folly road restaurant didn't disappoint. The Thai peanut chicken and lamb gyro haunt my dreams. They make the only margaritas I like and dang that sangria is dangerously good. One complaint! The noise level. It's a big space with high ceilings and cement floors and I could hear every word coming from the table of 6 older ladies next to me. Hopefully some acoustic tiles can go in somewhere. The mosquitoes this time of year make outside dining a no go.

So so good!!!! I love the simplicity of this great new restaurant. It is very low key and the food Is out of this world! A must try is the gazpacho soup for starters. The Bangkok shrimp taco was probably my favorite of the two tacos I got. The steak and cheese taco was also quite good. Can't wait to go back!!

Well, this guy and his duck have done it - smack down the best tacos I have ever had, and I've had more than my share. Taco options galore and lots of other fresh choices. Great open, industrial style feel setting - comfy but cool - and lots of shaded outdoor seating as well. Nice beer and beverage menu also and super friendly staff and owner! Can't wait to come back!

The tacos were great - the menu was not overwhelming which is nice for a quick lunch. Inexpensive prices and plenty of seating. Would definitely recommend it!

Ok so I found this place close by to me on yelp and they had wonderful reviews. They were all spot on. My girlfriend and I came in to a very energetic and happy counter girl, she was willing to help us out with any and all questions we had ( which was only one ). I had the duck taco along with the potato and mushroom, the duck was spot in and the sweetness from the cranberries were a wonderful accent, I wish there was a little More mushroom taste but overall it was delicious. My girlfriend got the gyro and the shrimp, didn't get to taste the shrimp... Guess that's a good thing right lol, but I did try the gyro, I've worked for Mediterranean restaurants and that gyro was great quality. We had to go back for more it was so good we both got a fried tilapia, the chipotle creme was spottttt on. The owner was there and the only thing is I wish he came over to the table to see how we were doing so I could have told him how awesome the atmosphere and food was he did a great job with this place, plenty of seating and great assortment of alcoholic drinks!!! 100% will be making this my go to quick spot here on James island!!!!

The Roasted Duck is amazing and the Jerk Chicken as well. Good atmosphere, kid friendly. Really cool set up in a converted warehouse. Will be back

Excellent food and very reasonably priced. Tons of options for tacos. I highly recommend the gyro and steak and cheese tacos. Friendly service and a very nice atmosphere. Due to the layout of building, it does get loud during peak hours so fair warning if you need a quiet place.

Fish taco and shrimp taco were very good! Nice to have a laid back place with good food on the island. Could use some live music outside!

Tucked away on Folly road. My husband and I went here to give it an honest try. All I can say is ... Really Flippin Glad we did! The place looks fun and has an outdoor seating. I wish the music was outside too. But Savannah was our server. She was fun, friendly, and very helpful. The food... We tried the Korean Beef which was Delicious (if you have never tried this... Do it!) Jerk Chicken- that was an Explosive burst of flavor with a big chunk of chicken. I liked it. Last but not least.... Lamb Gryos.... These bad mama jamas were sooooo good we went back and ordered another round. The Meat was tender and crisp. The tzatziki was Amazing. fresh tomatoes cucumbers onions and Huge chunks of Feta cheese. I totally will be back!

So White Duck kicks ass at making tacos. I always order too many, then eat too many, and never have left overs to take home. Simple service. Simple menu. Great beers. And pretty fast for dine in or carry out. I do wish they would let you carry a tab so you didn't have to charge your credit card every time you needed another beer or cocktail or taco. The dessert menu is also a little lacking and just full of flans. Would be awesome if they had a take on tres leches or churros or something more in line with tacos.

I wanted to love this place- especially based on the menu. The service and atmosphere was absolutely fine, the food came out especially quickly, the portions are VERY generous, they had several vegetarian options, and the staff member at the register was able to make a helpful recommendation when we asked. So it does have all of that going for it. Sounds like a lot- and it is...but... The downside was that I really wasn't jazzed by any of the three tacos I tried: the bahn mi, the black bean and cheese, or the potato and mushroom. The bahn mi was tofu based and unlike the firm, fried tofu I often find, theirs was extremely mushy and the texture really threw me off- plus it was not cut up and was just one huge mushy piece of tofu. The flavors were actually the best of the three, but I really couldn't get over the texture of their tofu. The black bean was okay, they made the mashed beans, which I wasn't expecting, but it was more or less as advertised. The potato and mushroom looked amazing, but the flavors just did not come together for me. Maybe the meat versions are better- as my boyfriend, a non vegetarian, seems much happier with his choice: the steak and cheese, Korean BBQ and duck taco. I hate to give a place three stars that seems like it really does a good job otherwise- but I just can't say I get the hype.

Tasty. Although this restaurant is listed as Mexican, and serves mainly tacos, is is much more creative. I LOVED the Asheville location so I was super excited to get one here in Charleston. My sister who is vegetarian loved the many options. I enjoyed all tacos I have tried thus far. Today was my 2nd time at this location, that although is tucked behind a tattoo place, it has many tables both inside and out. My favorite is the duck taco which I have ordered every visit so far. Today the crispy pork belly was super tasty too.

Quality of food: Very fresh; appropriate seasonings. Flavor of food: Excellent. Not your average taco by any means. Customer Service: Wow. 5 stars. VALUE: Excellent! Very affordable. Unbelievable value, especially when you consider how delicious this place is. Best spot for casual dining of all the top Yelp reviewed places we tried here. Adult Beverages: Sangrias (Watermelon and Blueberry Peach) were very light on alcohol content, but quite tasty. Margaritas were OUTSTANDING. Head and shoulders above others. So, here's what we ordered to eat: Salsa Trio to start - the green salsa was bold, not only with cilantro, but other flavors that made it the best green salsa I can remember; the red salsa had some light smoky vegetable flavors. Chipotle, with some other delicious spices, made it just as good or better than the green salsa; there was a cream salsa as well, which was also good. Steak and Cheese Taco - meat was delicious and well-prepared, and perfectly seasoned. It was tender, and had a great flavor. Everything you would expect a steak taco with chopped steak tips and the works. Korean Beef Bulgogi Taco - a little salty for my preference, but with a delicious flavor, and excellent kimchi. I could have used less meat and more kimchi, but that's just my style. It was very good. Bangkok Shrimp Taco - apparently this is the most frequently requested item on the menu. It was very good, with great shrimp sauce, but not too much; the cucumbers and seasoned vegetables on top were very good, as well. BBQ Carnitas Taco - the pork carnitas were also well-prepared, and the cabbage on top was a perfect match. Fish Taco - the favorite of the lot. It was blackened, with perfect seasoning. Will definitely come back just for this one. CONCLUSION: do yourself a favor and try this place out if you only eat one meal in the greater Charleston / Folly Beach area.

This place is incredibly hard to find. Once you get here you will realize it's not as difficult as you first visit. Trust me you will be back. Lots of easy sitting even though the place looks humongous due to the goal mirror on the wall. Dining area was clean. The tables are made from window shutters and doors that were topped by a clear laminate to make it level. Very cute. There were three of us that wanted to try this place for the first time. Not a fan of paying for chips and salsa anywhere but here. The classic red salsa, the middle sauce which may have been a salsa with sour cream mix and the green tomatillo salsa were worth every penny. It was a great way to start for our upcoming tacos. We were already sold. I got the Mushroom and Potato & Steak and Cheese. My partner got the Bahn Mi Tofu and Korean Beef his mother got the Baja Fish and Spicy Buffalo Chicken. Every one of which was delicious to perfection. We all raved about each one of our tacos and wanted each other to take a bite but just a bite. I don't like my food to be too spicy but the Korean Beef with Kimchi had just enough kick to stay with me after we were done. The Spicy Buffalo Chicken was a little to much for me but my mother-in-law was still saying how much she loved the spice and this was 30 to 40 minutes later. Great job and well done. If you have a specialty and perfect on it you will have White Duck Taco. I'm even upset about the name or the hide and seek way of finding this place.

Very solid lunch spot! Portions are MORE than fair and price is totally reasonable! Many of the options are very tasty and they are usually very quick to get things to your table. Very affordable too - you can get out of there for less than $10 if you have will power! The Duck Mole taco is a unique menu item, but it is also very good! Well seasoned and flavors that compliment each other, the duck mole taco is a home run! A lunch staple for many people who work around the area, including myself and I will be going back again soon. They decor is funky with pictures and murals and space is quite large. A well lit, open space that is great for lunch, but would not take anyone here for a date, romantic dinner, etc. I will recommend this to most, but not all people, I know (based on tastes and preferences).

I am a HUGE fan of White Duck Taco! I loved the one in Asheville, NC and I think I love this one even more. The space is huge, with a lot of seating (indoor and outdoor). You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you when it's ready. The fish taco is AMAZING. They aren't skimpy on the ingredients, either. Each taco (two tortillas) is loaded up with fresh toppings. The lamb gyro taco is also very tasty. Two tacos is definitely enough for me, especially if we get some chips/queso as an appetizer (which are absolutely delicious). Definitely give this place a try....it's funky, fresh, and flavorful!

I hear all these good reviews and went back and gave it a second try because Zia was closed for clean-up. I just thought their food was very lackluster. Actually kind of YUCK. Our service was good. But the tacos were close to inedible, especially the Jerk Chicken. My wife tried it and said it tasted like perfume. I thought there was some strange taste as well. We did get the chips and salsa(which we got free but normally they are at a cost)*. The Thai Peanut Taco was ok and of the two by far the better and it was pretty voluminous but really not a hit out of the park taco. My wife got the Tofu taco and she liked it but I tried it and did not like it too much either. I hope they do well and I hope they improve their product. I ate at the one in Asheville as well. Long lines for decent tacos but still not great. The location is weird. Have to go back behind the tattoo parlor. Not many customers were there at 6pm. Not a great sign. Really liked the service but the rest of it, not so much.

I don't usually like corn tortillas, but this was actually really good. I got the lamb gyro, korean bulgogi, and my favorite, the crispy pork belly. Melted in my mouth.

Had a great experience! The menu had a nice selection but it was a little confusing as to the placement of things - me being all ADHD! We has a party of 5. We had the watermelon sangria- really good- Sweet but watermelon goodness ;-) I had the Korean Beef Bulgogi taco & the Duck taco. We had the queso & an order of the trio salsa for the table. Everyone else had the lamb, black bean, crab and the jerk chicken tacos. One had red wine and one other had a top shelf margarita. It was countertop ordering and then they give you a number and serve you your food. They have plenty of tables inside and also a nice outside seating with umbrellas. The potions were a good size and dont break the bank. The tacos were all served on corn tortillas too :) We all agreed we would go back!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
