I went to the tin roof a few weeks ago with two friends and loved it. The chef, Steven, was awesome and we all loved our food. Beers were cold, band was good, we will be back.

Quite possibly one of the greatest dive bars on the face of the planet. Live music at least 5 nights a week, the BEST trivia every Tuesday night, friendly bar staff, and a menu that focuses on gourmet hot dogs. WHAAAAAAT?! You will definitely have a good time.

I have to say, I was excited for the tin roof. I knew it was a dive bar, but I don't mind a dive... I went there to see Holopaw play. The tickets said 8:00 and the show started at 10:00... that was annoying. We decided to stay and stick it out anyways, as we had gotten there a bit early for the 8:00 pm show... which ended up being VERY early for the 10:00. The place definitely gives off a hipster vibe, which I normally don't mind, but a lot of the clientele was rude. Our bartender was not attentive the entire evening and was also rude. Food and drink was meh. Oh, and by the end of the night, my credit card information had been stolen. It just happened to be the same one I used at the Tin Roof, and I found out the day after. Coincidence? I think not. Never going back to that craphole.

This is my favorite dive bar, yet my love is bittersweet. The place itself is super relaxed, cool and the bar staff is awesome. I would go every day to have a drink. I would get all of my friends to meet me for drinks. I would stay from 4pm to 10pm. I would go every day. Here's the bitter part.... First, I'd have to join AA. And biggest part? I'm not paying $5 full a draft beer! There are too many places with too many happy hours and too many beer specials. The owners should be ashamed. IT"S A DIVE BAR! The women's bathroom has beads separating it from the rest of the place for goodness sake!. Have $2 beer specials (like everyone else in Charleston does) and have better prices regularly. Having 2 drafts, I could have bought a six pack at a grocery store! And not on sale! So, all of my friends joining me everyday for a beer? Well, that will now happen at another bar.

I like the Tin Roof a lot, but the crowd is a bit too weird for me some nights. We went there for a band, White Boy Crazy (they rock, by the way) and I dunno... forgive me for not finding the crowd of men, approx. age 30, dressed in skinny jeans and pouring PBR all over their faces attractive- but it's just not my thing this week. Maybe next we'll try again? Anywho, it reminds me of Austin in there and I just happen to love Austin dearly. The vibe and the people are generally really cool - and the crowd does vary from the few times I've been. As it does at any bar that has random bands. I also agree with the other review - they def need to get some $2 beer specials before I make it a regular stop!

Dive bar with cold drinks, skanky women, and great rock n roll.

I guess go here for music or whatever else is going on.. but damn the bartenders are usually jerks. "Hey man, do you have any Sol or Pacifico?" :::bangs Tecate on the counter, opens, and shoves in lime::: Sorry I don't drink PBR all the time dude and nobody cares about your summer book list. But yeah, whatevz, it's cool and stuff. I usually smell like people's BO and pretentiousness after I leave.

OK, I love the Tin Roof. It's a total dive with an intense and delicious menu of hot dogs, a wide variety of live music, posters clinging for life on the ceiling, a pool table, outdoor area, and a laid back crowd (I guess that might depend on the night/music, though). The drinks are neither expensive or cheap, and there are times where I'm not totally feeling the music (more often than not, I really enjoy it though). This is a great place to catch a live show in a smaller dive setting.

Made the mistake of stopping here one night. Drink prices were high for a dump, and the music sucked. Not sure how to describe it here. Kind of hippy, weird type of crowd. Music really, really sucked though. Never again!

Sometimes you just love a good dive with friendly bartenders, hilarious trivia hosts, lots of punk rock, and like, the best hot dogs ever. This has become our favorite place around - and it helps that the owner is so sweet!

Here's the deal. If you're not into weird, creepy, odd places that really doesn't have outdoor lighting unless someone props a door opening, this isn't your kind of place. We are talking music lounge, dive, hipster bar. People bitching about the bartender didn't get to meet the dude and engage in conversation. He was fly. And maybe if I go back sometime soon he'll review this comment and pour me a free brew. :) Saw a friends band there (Honey Smoke) and had a dogger. Tasty. Wasn't disappointed but wouldn't make it a regular in my diet. Craft brews were a bit pricy, minus star. But the vibe reminded me of old school places I dug when in college. And the bartenders playlist was rocking some DK and other punk. So think of this as an experience and just enjoy the vibe. If you're a pretentious d-bag, don't bother.

Cute Divy bar. Here with a friend on a friday night with small craft tables in their outer area. Got some cute jewelry for cheap and nice conversations with local people. The sushi here was surprisingly good (me being from NY and sushi being served in a bar in Charleston). Waitress was nice. I would come again!

My last night in Charleston and I end up at the Tin Roof seeing BJ Barnham from American Aquarium play his angry songs about women who have done him wrong and the trials of the hard life of the road band. His performance was mixed, but this review is about the Tin Roof, which is the second or third diviest bar in Charleston. Whereas the Recovery Room is hipster-divey, this bar seems to lean toward pretentious douche divey. The bar is laminated wood with pennies stuck in it. The place almost feels like it is underground, and there are show posters all over, including on the low ceiling (check out the Sleepy Eye Giant posters - one of the band members is a graphic designer, and the posters are all quite arresting - I'm not saying that you should snag one, but I did). I saw reviews complaining about the drink prices, but I really have no problem with paying $5 for a Westbrook or COAST. I saw lots of spikey-haired post-frat bros pouring PBR all over the place, so you can drink cheap here too. Service at the bar is good, and I found the bartenders perfectly prompt and amenable. There's a nice enclosed, covered outdoor area too. As far as a music venue, it is absolutely tiny and holds maybe 20 people standing in front the stage, with another 10 or so sitting at the bar. Very intimate, but the PA needs some work - the sound is unbalanced and crackly. (Bonus: The Tin Roof is featured prominently in the Shovels & Rope video for Birmingham) One of the better spots in West Ashley. Check it out.

Several occasions have come and gone since I moved to Charleston where I have wanted to visit the Tin Roof but missed out for whatever reason. I finally went a few nights ago to see Burnt Books and Whores perform. Every thing online said that music started at 8 p.m. It started at 10 p.m. That was a little annoying seeing as I drove over a half hour to get there. I decided to partake in a beverage to make the wait a little more tolerable. I was happy to see they had Holy City Brewing on tap. Not just the Pluff Mudd Porter like most local places, but also the Collision Stout. It was $6! A little pricy. I guess if you aren't a PBR swilling hipster you're S.O.L. on beer prices. The place is definitely a dive. It has a nice intimate feel which makes it fun when the music starts. At least I thought so. The crowd there at the time was some of the most unmoved people I have ever witnessed at a music show. The crowd definitely had a pretentious air to it(and a cloud of B.O. I left with in my clothes). I'm a huge music fan, and these little negatives didn't really ruin the place for me. I would never go there just for the bar, but I will definitely return when more good music rolls through. That's the kind of place where you see bands and things you won't see anywhere else. You'll see bands on the way to making it big.

I finally made it to Tin Roof for some weekend revelry. A friend of mine had a DJ friend of his that was playing there later that evening. Little did I know, a couple other bands were opening up for him and so we were able to catch three acts for five bucks! Each performance alone warranted a five dollar cover for their energy alone. They almost knocked the roof off the place... which probably isn't that tough since its tin right? The bar was divey, the drinks were cheap, the bartenders were cool folks, and everybody in the place seemed to be having a good time. Maybe it was just all the cheap drinks but I know I had a blast. I like how the stage is set back from the main room and that there's an outside area if you need to escape the chaos for a minute. Good times!

I love tin roof! It's cute, quaint, divy, trendy, big, unique, & they always have something fun going on! The way the set up is there are 5ish areas of the bar in and outside to give you a small yet large feel. They host great shows at a low cost kinda like the drinks. They even provide free pizza some nights with shows! This is one of West Ashley's treasures in my opinion. This is where people from every background can share a beer, play some pool, & have a good time!

Oddly enough, this is my parents' favorite spot when they come for a visit. They love that it's kind of divey and hole-in-the-wall-y. Food is pretty good for a dive bar, and drink specials are awesome. I love Trivia night on Tuesday and anytime they have live music

Went in sunday afternoon for a local draft beer. $5 + $1 tip = $6! What a rip off. They obviously not spending the money on upkeep. Rip off.

An upscale dive bar, if you will. A comfy place to call home. Great patio, live music, hot dogs (portabello mushrooms on a bun for veggies) and lots of great toppings. I had the sauerkraut, swiss and Holy Virgin sauce (which was good enough to suspect modest divine intervention) on the portabellas. Tasty buns! Dogs $5, a little steep for what it is, but not breaking the bank, either. Good fries, with a choice of in-house aioli or honey mustard (nice), a little extra for pimiento cheese or chili. Welcome to West Ashley, Tin Roof! Long may you run.
